Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole Announce New Duets Album & National Tour

'The Great Country Songbook Volume 3' is out September 9

Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole have announced their new duets album, The Great Country Songbook Volume 3 , is due for release on September 9 and will be backed up with a national tour.

While the entire music industry was re-emerging from a difficult few years, Cole was suffering one of the worst years of her life personally, so Harvey suggested that cutting an album with an old friend could be the best medicine.

Cole says, "A few months ago, when I wasn't doing so well, my friend Adam Harvey checked in on me every week or so. He asked if there was anything he could do and I said, 'you could tour with me again, they are my happiest times.' So, he changed his year around and orchestrated this whole project. He said if I got better, he would tour with me till the bloody wheels fall off! That's what you call a friend."

Harvey adds, "Going on tour with Beccy Cole is like going on a rollercoaster ride at the amusement park. Its unpredictable, scary at times, amazing, and so much fun! I have to admit the tours I have done with Beccy over the years have always been my favourites and I can't wait for this one to start.”

Recorded at the Music Cellar on the NSW Central Coast with engineer Jeff McCormack and produced by Harvey and Cole themselves, The Great Country Songbook Volume 3 is about two best friends getting together again to record some of their favourite classic country songs.

The pair previously collaborated on The Great Country Songbook Volume 2 in 2017. The album debuted at #6 on the ARIA Charts and features covers of iconic songs like Islands In The Stream , If I Were A Carpenter, Jackson  and more. It also features two songs with Troy Cassar-Daley , who joined Harvey on the platinum certified, The Great Country Songbook in 2013.

Over a period of 20 years, Harvey and Cole have toured Australia together a dozen times. Country music fans always regard the opportunity to see these great mates on stage together as a real treat and an absolute highlight. Fans received a taste of things to come when the inseparable pair recently hosted the 50th Golden Guitar Awards, leaving the audience in stitches.

Since that first tour 20 years ago, Harvey has built a landmark career - half a million album sales, Gold and Platinum albums, 9 x Golden Guitar awards and a CMA Global Country Artist award. In addition, his recent number one ARIA album, Songs from Highway One took home the gong for ‘Traditional Country Album of The Year’ at the 2022 Golden Guitar awards.

Harvey is also currently working on a book titled, Tales from The Road , which features a collection of stories from Harvey and his country music mates chronicling some of the funny, inspiring, and downright scary things that have happened on tour over the years.

Cole has enjoyed similar success with 11 x Golden Guitar awards to her name, multiple ARIA Top 10 Country and Top 40 Mainstream albums, a Top 10 DVD, 3 x Gold-certified releases, and more than a dozen #1 Australian Country singles. The singer-songwriter was also awarded the ‘Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)’ this year. 

Harvey and Cole will perform some tracks off their new album along with plenty of old favourites, when their tour kicks off on September 9 at Mackay’s Northern Beaches Bowls Club.

Black Box – A new Australian Musical based on a true story

You don’t know him, but he may have saved your life.

Black Box is Queenslander Paul Hodge’s ground-breaking new musical based on the extraordinary true story of David Warren, the Australian inventor who created the black box flight recorder that is now on every plane around the globe.

Driven by the death of his father in an unexplained plane crash when he was eight, Black Box follows David as he fights for an invention that could record the final moments of a flight before it crashes – the black box. His obsession around this invention places his career, marriage and mind at risk. It’s a show about memory, and how we hold onto, and let go of, those we love.

Black Box writer and composer, Paul Hodge, said, “David’s invention was inspired by his love of music. I wanted to create a theatre form that was as inventive as David’s idea, which led to the use of recorded voices and music, in the same way the black box gives recordings, to immerse the audience in David’s sound world.”

Black box inventor David Warren will be played by internationally renowned singer and actor Michael Cormick, who has had leading roles around the world, including in Phantom of the Opera and Beauty and the Beast with Hugh Jackman. David’s wife, Ruth, will be played by Helpmann Award winner Helen Dallimore who as well as touring extensively throughout the UK and Australia was the original Glinda opposite Idina Menzel in the West End production of Wicked.

The auditory world that inspired David to create his life-saving invention shapes the audience’s experience at Black Box, which utilises pre-recorded voices and instruments to create a world of music and memory to tell his story. While Helen and Michael are on stage, the rest of the cast are present through a history-making audio experience.

Black Box is the first binaural musical with audience members wearing headphones that allow them to be totally immersed in a 360-degree world of sound.

Binaural recording uses two microphones, arranged at the position of human ears to create a 3D stereo sound sensation for the listener of actually being in the room with the recorded actors and instruments. This world-premiere production will be directed by David Berthold.

Free healthy lifestyle program for families in Tweed, Coraki and Grafton

Families in NSW can access support to build healthy habits together, plus tips and assistance with getting active, healthy eating and wellbeing.

Go4Fun is a free 10-week after school program for children aged 7-13 and their families, which aims to support their health and wellbeing.

Parents and carers can now enrol their primary school aged children in the Term 2 programs in Tweed, Grafton and Coraki.

Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) Acting Director of Integrated Care and Allied Health Services, Kathryn Watson said the program is for kids and their families who want to get healthier together.

“For many families, the focus is on just getting by on a day-to-day basis, and many don’t have the money to invest in healthy lifestyle programs,” Ms Watson said.

“We know many parents can be overwhelmed by the amount of healthy lifestyle information available. Go4Fun helps by providing easy tips to make healthy changes and involves parents, carers and children in activities to help put these into practice.

“This free program allows families to have the chance to learn healthy habits, and have fun together.”

The program includes games, activities, prizes and a supermarket tour. It also helps families and children to connect with others in their local area.

“Families love that the program is free and that it helps their child’s wellbeing, including their sleep. It creates a space to connect and build relationships as a family,” Ms Watson said.

“For families who are not in the Tweed, Grafton or Coraki areas, the Go4Fun online program is always an option.”

Parents and carers can sign up to the program directly, and health professionals and GPs can also refer their patients.

Interview: Adam Harvey

Adam Harvey is an established Australian country music fan favourite, the recipient of eight Golden Guitar awards and is nominated for three in the 2022 GGs, which will be announced at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in April. Harvey is also one of Australia’s greatest live entertainers, whether he’s in company with the likes of Beccy Cole or on his own, and he’s about to head out on the road (tour dates below). I spoke to him shortly before the start of the tour to chat about his latest single, ‘Lindeman Again’, and other things. You can watch on YouTube or listen in Soundcloud.

About Adam Harvey

Adam Harvey is a popular Australian country music singer from South Australia. His career began in 2002 when he released his debut album The Great Country Songbook. The album spawned several popular singles including 'Two Summers', 'Country Music's Got Me', and 'Buried Treasures'. He has since released seven more studio albums, all of which have achieved commercial success in Australia. Harvey is known for blending contemporary country, traditional country and blues influences. He has earned seven Golden Guitar Awards, six ARIA Award nominations, and several industry accolades. He is a member of the Hands of Fame and Roll of Renown, and a four-time winner of the CMC Music Awards. He continues to tour Australia and perform at many festivals, venues and events.

Adam Harvey & Beccy Cole announce new Duets Album and National Tour

While the entire music industry was re-emerging from a difficult few years, Beccy Cole was suffering one of the worst years of her life personally. Adam Harvey suggested that cutting an album with an old friend could be the best medicine… and The Great Country Songbook Volume 3 was born (out Sept 9), which will be backed up with a national tour.

“A few months ago when I wasn’t doing so well, my friend Adam Harvey checked in on me every week or so,” said Beccy in a beautiful post on social media. “He asked if there was anything he could do and I said ‘you could tour with me again, they are my happiest times.’ So he changed his year around and orchestrated this whole project. He said if I got better he would tour with me till the bloody wheels fall off! That’s what you call a friend.”

Adam, likewise, couldn’t be happier about touring with his good mate. “Going on tour with Beccy Cole is like going on a rollercoaster ride at the amusement park. Its unpredictable, scary at times, amazing, and so much fun! I have to admit the tours I have done with Beccy over the years have always been my favourite’s and I can’t wait for this one to start.”

Recorded at the Music Cellar on the NSW Central Coast with engineer Jeff McCormack and devotedly produced by Adam and Beccy themselves, The Great Country Songbook Volume 3 is about two best friends getting together again to record some of their favourite classic country songs.

Over a period of 20 years Adam and Beccy have run circles across this big brown land – having toured Australia together a dozen times. Country music fans always regard the opportunity to see these great mates on stage together as a real treat and an absolute highlight. Fans received a taste of things to come when the inseparable pair recently hosted the 50th Golden Guitar Awards, leaving the audience in stitches.

Since that first tour 20 years ago Adam has built a landmark career – half a million album sales, Gold and Platinum albums, 9 x Golden Guitar awards and a CMA Global Country Artist award. Not something to be sneezed at. To boot, his recent #1 ARIA album, Songs from Highway One took home the gong for Traditional Country Album of The Year at the 2022 Golden Guitar awards.

With such a storied life it’s no wonder Adam is currently working on a book titled, Tales from The Road; a collection of stories from Adam and his country music mates chronicling some of the funny, inspiring and downright scary things that have happened on tour over the years.

Beccy has enjoyed similar success with her unapologetically authentic brand of country music. 11 x Golden Guitar awards to her name (including 5 x Female Artist of the Year), multiple ARIA Top 10 Country and Top 40 Mainstream albums, a Top 10 DVD, 3 x Gold-certified releases, and more than a dozen #1 Australian Country singles. The singer-songwriter was also awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) this year. “It feels wonderful [to be recognised]. It’s incredible. It’s visibility for the arts, for country music, in particular, and for LGBTQI+ community.”

Adam Harvey announces his new tour. Beginning in February 2021, directly after his annual pilgrimage to the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Adam has put together a schedule of tour dates that add up to become the largest solo tour he has ever undertaken. Adam will perform over 40 shows across NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD and SA from February to September 2021. Joining Adam on the extensive national tour is Raechel Whitchurch, a multi-talented singer-songwriter and musician who grew up performing in her family’s travelling band The Lees. Now an accomplished solo artist, Raechel is excited to be joining Adam on the road as the opening act and performing her new music live onstage.
