Wonderful and Relaxing!

Our Sunset cruise on the Moana was delightful!

We had 15 family members ranging from 10 to 78, and everyone was comfortable. Patrick and his crew kept us entertained and pampered. They even provided snorkeling gear, and a guide, and took us to a swimming spot for the kids.

The younger kids enjoyed being out in front in the "splash zone". The crew keep the boat spotless, and kept us "well fed and watered". It was a beautiful afternoon and lovely sunset.

We went out on the moana on November 7 th with 15 friends and it was perfect, just as all the other reviews have said, Patrick and his crew were excellent!

Everyone with our group and I mean everyone said it was the best part of their vacation. I think cooking the food on board added a special touch and the food was wonderful.

• How big are your catamarans? The Paso Doble is considered a mid-size catamaran, measuring 46 feet in length. Our boat can comfortably accommodate 40 passengers, plus our crew. The Pacific Breeze is considerably larger, with a length of 75 feet and a capacity of 60 guests. Many of the catamarans that sail the Mexican Caribbean are large-size vessels, with capacity for 100 or more passengers. We feel that the size of the Paso Doble and the Pacific Breeze offers a more intimate setting and allows us to maintain our well-established reputation for quality service.
• What is your safety record? Safety is our top priority. Our tours are generally smaller than those operated by the cruise ships and our staff is highly professional. At minimum, each of our snorkel guides is certified in rescue diving and most are full-fledged divemasters. They have also received extensive training in first aid, including CPR. We keep our first aid kit well stocked and carry oxygen on board.

Sunset and dolphin-watching catamaran tour

Enjoy one of the most relaxing moments of your holidays in Lanzarote on this catamaran trip to see dolphins and watch the sunset.

The boat tour schedule varies throughout the year, but as a rule, it starts 2 hours before sunset and lasts until nightfall.

The first part of our adventure will be focused on spotting cetaceans. Although there’s no guarantee of finding dolphins in the open sea, the chances are more than 60%. If you’re lucky, we’ll see herds of dolphins surrounding the boat and, exceptionally, we’ll be able to spot a whale.

From the boat you can also see Puerto del Carmen and some of the craters found in this part of the island.

During the journey you can drink beer, sangria, mojitos, soft drinks and water and dine on some of our buffet dishes such as potato omelet, croquettes or vegetable sandwiches.

The catamaran is spacious and you can move through the bow, stern or bar area at all times.

As night falls, we’ll move closer to the port to enjoy a pleasant sunset, as we watch the sun hide behind the Lanzarote mountains.

This will undoubtedly be the finale of an afternoon that we hope you’ll enjoy and which you’ll remember as one of the best moments of your stay on the island.

A special sunset. The catamaran trip was very pleasant, however we didn’t see any dolphins and at dusk we saw the sunset in the mountains and not on the sea.

Unforgettable. We saw lots of dolphins and 2 whales sporadically, as they didn’t come up to the surface much. The crew was very friendly and helpful and the sunset at sea was one of the most relaxing and romantic moments of my honeymoon.

Awesome. Both my husband and I really enjoyed the sunset and the dolphin sighting. Good organization and good onboard service.

Sunset with friends. We were 3 couples and loved the experience. The catamaran is spacious and the crew is very friendly. The sunset was very nice and calm and seeing the dolphins was one of the most exciting moments of our lives. Thank you so much!!

Sunset without dolphins. The boat ride is ok and the crew is lovely, but we weren’t lucky and didn’t see the dolphins.

Good tour but we didn’t see any dolphins. We would’ve loved to see some dolphins but the boat ride and sunset at sea were still worth it.

Highly recommended. The catamaran is large and even if you sit in one area, you can move around the boat during the trip. They gave us several drinks and a lot of snacks. The crew was very friendly and we saw a large pod of dolphins on the first part of the tour and watched the sun go down over the island’s mountains before heading back to the pier.

A plan to do with the family. At first we thought it was a tour for couples but Luis told us that families with children also went so we decided to go, my husband and I, and our 8 and 10-year-old children. The four of us really enjoyed watching the dolphins and the sunset. Also, we had dinner on the boat and loved the experience.

We loved it. We saw quite a few dolphins, 2 whales and took in the sunset before heading back to port.

Perfect for couples. Luis from OkLanzarote encouraged us to do this boat trip and gave us some tips to get the most out of it. Everything was perfect, from the moment they picked us up at the hotel until we got back. Good crew and a nice catamaran. The sunset was amazing and dolphin watching was spectacular.

A fantastic afternoon. The crew was very attentive and friendly and the catamaran is spacious so you can move around the boat during the tour. The sunset from the sea was very special and we were able to see a dolphin pod.

A nice experience. We didn’t see any dolphins but did spend an afternoon enjoying the sea and the sunset.

Good organization and experience. The boat is big and it was almost full but there were many areas where you could sit and enjoy the sunset and see some dolphins.

Improvable. The negative part is that we didn’t see any dolphins not any other type of cetacean and the buffet was tasteless, the dishes had no flavour. On the positive side, watching the sunset from the sea with my partner was very relaxing.

It’s good but crowded. The boat is big and a lot of people go on this tour. There are plenty of places to sit but we would’ve preferred to go with fewer people. Otherwise, we were lucky as we saw some dolphins and loved watching the sunset from the catamaran.

It was worth it. My wife and I enjoyed it a lot. We were able to see several dolphin families on 2 occasions at the beginning of the boat ride and then relaxed watching the sunset.

Worse than we expected. I went with my husband and we expected a better experience because we didn’t see any dolphins, the boat was full and we couldn’t sit in the bow of the boat, the snacks were pretty bad and the sun went down behind the mountains, not the sea.

Good experience though unlucky. We didn’t see any dolphins on the outing, however the sea trip and sunset were worth it anyway.

Dusk at sea. The catamaran ride was relaxing and we spent the first hour sailing in search of dolphins but unfortunately didn’t see any. We saw the sunset on the last hour of the tour.

A great sunset. Everything is planned so that you can enjoy the day’s last 2 hours of sun in a very special way. From the moment you’re welcomed until you leave the ship you’re entertained. Snacking, dolphin watching and finishing with a sunset from the sea. 2 very special hours.

Amazing. The catamaran ride was very pleasant and went by quickly. With a bit of luck you’ll get to spot some dolphins, as we did, and enjoy a nice sunset from the sea.

Good tour. We really enjoyed the boat ride even though we didn’t see any dolphins. The sunset from the sea was wonderful, very different from seeing it from land.

Marvellous. We sat at the bow of the boat and watched several dolphins swim alongside the boat. A unique experience that ended with the sun going down behind the mountains which we saw from the catamaran

Highly recommended. I went with my girlfriend because we wanted to do something romantic and we really liked it. Even though the catamaran is big and there are quite a few people, you can stay in one place or move around the boat. Seeing the dolphins was amazing, and the sunset was super relaxing.

A plan for couples. My girlfriend and I were excited to see the dolphins, the coast, the sunset, the boat…..everything was very good.

A good way to end the day. I went with my husband and 2 children and we were very excited to see the dolphins so close to the boat and relaxed watching the sun go down.

Beyond the white sand beaches and all-inclusive resorts, Cancun is known for cultural landmarks and traditions, scenic views and so many fun things to do and see, well, it's hard to know where to start in the destination. Luckily, we've built a list of excursions and activities in Cancun from various sources, including AAA Inspector 511 and my own experience as well as our list of AAA GEM® (Great Experience for Members) attractions.

First, you'll need to do some legwork. Decide when you want to go — whether peak, shoulder or off-peak season — so you can pick the best time to visit Cancun . Generally, the earlier you book, the better for your budget, but even if it's a last-minute trip in the off-season, you'll find plenty to do. Highlights include people-watching on iconic Playa Delfines, getting to know the culture of Cancun on a tour , or taking a day trip to beautiful Isla Mujeres or historic ruins. There are Cancun excursions and activities for everyone!

Beaches in Cancun

It's a "shore" thing in Cancun, especially if your main goal is "beach." There are great places to go in Quintano Roo if you want to sunbathe, swim or play. For water sports enthusiasts, Playa Marlín and Playa Las Perlas are among the best beaches in Cancun , featuring currents perfect for surfing and other recreational activities. Families will appreciate the calm waters at Playa del Niño and Playa Tortugas, which offer safer wading environments and convenient amenities. Couples can enjoy the relaxed vibes at Playa Chac Mool and the Costa Mujeres, known for scenic beauty and sunset viewing. Lastly, for those seeking a livelier scene, a trip to Playa Delfines or Playa Forum (Playa Gaviota Azul) equals shore excursions with easy access to beach clubs and surf.

2. Snorkeling or Scuba Diving in Cancun and Isla Mujeres

Snorkeling is one of the top things to do in Cancun, especially with impressive nearby sites like the Underwater Museum of Art and Garrafon Natural Reef Park , part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System (aka Great Mayan Reef), off Isla Mujeres. In Cancun's Hotel Zone, Playa Tortugas and Playa Caracol are top spots to snorkel, offering easy access and interesting marine life. Basic swimming skills and precautions around beach conditions are necessary, while PADI certifications likely will be required for open-water diving. Snorkeling gear is often provided through tours or included at all-inclusive resorts ; always check with your resort or outfitter about local regulations or restrictions before you go.

3. Catamaran to Isla Mujeres

A highlight of my own trip to Cancun was the Isla Mujeres Catamaran Luxury Sailing Experience . I liked that a catamaran offers stability and plenty of seating, as it's a type of boat with two parallel hulls, so you'll have plenty of space for your belongings or even room for an impromptu dance party. Setting sail from Cancun's Las Perlas Marina, you can take your time with breakfast before boarding for that day's catamaran adventure. The experience includes beverages, a snorkeling tour to explore vibrant marine life (purely voluntary) and a trip along the bay. Once docked on Isla Mujeres , an island that's one of the most popular excursions in Cancun, you'll have free time to shop for souvenirs, enjoy a buffet lunch at an exclusive beach club, stroll on the beach or order a frosty libation from a beachside restaurant with breathtaking views before your return to Cancun.

If you want an excursion that features the best of both worlds, whether that's natural wonders or cultural spectacles, then be sure to save time for an exciting theme park. Xenses , found in the heart of Riviera Maya, is a great place that offers sensory experiences, such as optical illusions and interactive activities, as well as waterslides and other thrilling adventures. Arguably, the most popular park is Xcaret , also in the Riviera Maya, which features cenotes and underground rivers in addition to must-see cultural shows and performances; make sure you stay until evening to get the full effect. Nearby, Xel-Há , located just south of Playa del Carmen, is an aquatic eco-park, where visitors can enjoy kids' activities as well as snorkeling, wading in Ixchel Grotto and even cliff jumping. Xplor , also near Playa del Carmen, provides adventurous things to do, such as ziplining, amphibious vehicles and underground river exploration.

Cancún Maya Museum

Located in the Hotel Zone at Boulevard 16.5, the Museo Maya de Cancún y Zona Arqueológica de San Miguelito — open Tuesday to Sunday — presents an amazing collection of artifacts from the Maya civilization as well as art, which you can admire promptly with your skip-the-line ticket . The entrance is adorned with sculptures reflecting the landscape, while the halls inside contain floor-to-ceiling glass that presents beautiful views of the jungle and Nichupté Lagoon. Your ticket also gives you entry to the ruins of San Miguelito, where Maya families lived before Spanish colonization.

Cenote Swimming and Viewing

Excursions to Maya sites often incorporate cenote visits, combining history and recreation, which only makes sense. Cenotes, natural sinkholes with pure, soothing waters, had a special role in Maya civilization and remain a source of wonder and beauty for visitors. They're also great for swimming and snorkeling; however, swim only where permitted. Cenote Dos Ojos , between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, and Gran Cenote , outside Tulum, are good cenotes to visit. Aktun Chen Natural Park , north of Tulum, provides guided excursions of its underground rivers and caverns in the Aktun jungle. Ruins and Historic Sites

The Maya civilization, renowned for advanced architecture, astronomy and mathematics, has left a lasting legacy in the Yucatán Peninsula, and it's worth booking the best tours early and ensuring one or more historic sites are added to your vacation itinerary. Bring water with you, and aim to arrive early on-site to have the best experience. El Rey is in the Zona Hotelera (Hotel Zone), and you can pair a visit to El Rey with other local attractions in Cancun. On the tip of Isla Mujeres, the remnants of the Temple of Ixchel, dedicated to the Maya goddess of the moon and fertility, present interesting sightseeing just a short ferry ride from Cancun. Next, Tulum offers beachfront ruins overlooking the Caribbean Sea — just 80 miles (131 km) south of Cancun and not far from Cozumel, making it popular for cruise lines and tour groups. Ek Balam , west of Cancun, is a less crowded site with a pyramid that visitors can climb to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding jungle; note that steps can be steep.
