On April 11, Sabrina was scheduled to perform at Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon. However, before the artist arrived on stage Monday night, the concert was canceled due to a "credible security threat," according to Rolling Stone .
"Employees with the Crystal Ballroom called after they received a phone call from an anonymous person claiming they were going to blow up the venue," Lieutenant Nathan Sheppard of the Portland Police Bureau told the outlet. "Steps were taken to ensure that the audience exited the venue calmly, quickly, and safely."
After the cancellation, Sabrina took to Twitter to send a message to fans. "Portland - i can't tell you how much it breaks my heart, this is the last thing i wanted to do but due to unforeseen circumstances we will not be able to perform tonight," she began. "i am so sorry. i love you very much."

Sabrina Carpenter Is Taking Her Emails on the Road With Fall Tour
By Tomás Mier
Sabrina Carpenter can read our minds, after all. On Monday, the “Fast Times” singer announced the dates for her fall tour, alongside its retro poster, to support her recently-released album, Emails I Can’t Send . The U.S. trek is the first time she has hit the road since her Singular tour in spring 2019.
“IM GOING ON TOUR,” she captioned the announcement. “WAKE UP,” she added.
Carpenter will kick off her Emails I Can’t Send tour in Orlando in late September before making her way to the Bay Area to perform at the Regency Ballroom. She’ll make stops at New York’s Webster Hall and Los Angeles’ Wiltern along the way.

Ahead of the album’s release, Carpenter chatted with Rolling Stone about her songwriting process and how she forced herself to be vulnerable in her newest music. “I had to fight the urge to do what I normally do — cover it up with confidence — and instead just actually feel those feelings,” Carpenter said. “The tolerance for bullshit in the last two years really minimized for me.”
Emails I Can’t Send featured singles such as “ Fast Times ,” “ Vicious ,” and “Skinny Dipping.” She gave fans a taste of what’s to come on tour during her one-off Samsung Summer of Galaxy concert in Los Angeles last month, performing tracks like “Because I Liked a Boy” and “Tornado Warnings” before ending the show with “Decode.”

Although Carpenter wasn’t nominated for an award this year at the VMAs, that didn’t stop the singer from stunning at the afterparty in a leggy white lingerie look. Oh, and she took a few pictures with none other than the Pop Titan, Taylor Swift , and BLACKPINK ‘s Rosé!

Sabrina Carpenter dazzles Outside Lands with new song, Kacey Musgraves duet
O riginally, she wasn’t even on the lineup . But Saturday night, Sabrina Carpenter had Outside Lands ’ mainstage audience wrapped around her finger.
The cheeky singer dazzled in her first-ever festival headlining set, an exuberant pop carnival that included earnest exchanges with the crowd, an unreleased song, pyrotechnics and — to widespread delight — country star Kacey Musgraves. Carpenter, in the midst of a whirlwind ascent to pop’s A-list and just two weeks out from an album drop, was vocally strong and disarmingly funny.
Carpenter’s brand of pop isn’t new — I’ve never been able to shake the feeling that “Espresso” is a copycat of Doja Cat ’s hit “Say So” — but it landed well on Saturday. Her spate of songs about complicated relationships warmed up the crowd, and then she transitioned into sultrier, more velvety tones. She spilled easy banter in the breaks, at one point going back and forth with a member of the crowd, and at another, asking everyone what they’d prefer to be called. “Bay Area” won out over “Outside Lands” and “San Francisco.”
The star had help onstage from a lively troupe of half-glammed backup dancers and a stirring band, but Carpenter — glittering in black and then turquoise, iconic bangs firmly in place — was the star. That remained the case even alongside Musgraves, who Carpenter introduced with the charming bemusement of a lifelong fan. The two played just one song, Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin.’” Carpenter’s energy was clearly infectious; Musgraves bopped around happily. The headliner used the chance to show off her twang, plus her high-heeled, dress-matching boots.
That cover and Carpenter’s new hits aside, the set primarily pulled from 2022’s “emails i can’t send,” her fifth album; she also played it heavily while opening on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. This set shared Swift’s penchant for personal branding — a retroey game show voice announced Carpenter’s arrival, hyped up the forthcoming “Short n' Sweet” album and emcee’d so-called Sabrina Carpenter-themed competition on stage between her background dancers.
After a rollicking beginning, a weak section did arrive. During two brief sets — one slower and one with thumping beats — Carpenter’s storytelling was hard to discern over the background music. That mattered least on “bet u wanna,” an upbeat, R&Bish bop, where the bass hit bone-deep, but “Opposite” and “Paris” were misses.
Then, she was back in her pop bag with “Feather,” featuring an interpolation of The Cardigans' “Lovefool,” and I was already forgetting my complaints. “Your signals are mixed, you act like a bitch. You fit every stereotype, ‘Send a pic,’” she crooned. “I feel so much lighter like a feather with you out my life.”
These songs, and the Swift billing, helped the singer burst through into pop’s highest echelon. (Although Carpenter has been sort-of famous most of her life; she starred in the Disney Channel sitcom “Girl Meets World.") But there’s no doubt the chart-topping singles from the upcoming album were responsible for much of Saturday’s gigantic crowd.
One of the two, “Please Please Please,” garnered such massive audience participation — I’ve rarely heard louder, or seen more phones in the air — that Carpenter appeared genuinely affected. She’d kept up a flirty, energetic stage presence for much of the night, but after seeing thousands scream her smash summer hit, she wiped a tear from her cheek.
Carpenter then sat at the front of the stage, donned an “i’m headlining bitch” sash gifted by a front-row fan and thanked the crowd for its support. She marveled at how soon the album would be out, happily adding that it felt like her listeners had heard the “Espresso” and “Please” singles and “held them like a first-born child.” Her front-section fans shouted in approval.
Then came time to pile on a little more country, in the form of unreleased “Short n' Sweet” track “Slim Pickins.” It’s country-lite, Carpenter's voice sounding soft and elastic on lyrics like, “If I can't have the one I love, guess it's you that I'll be kissing just to get my fixin's.” While the song doesn’t seem to have a winning chorus like the singles, I probably shouldn’t underestimate her. She’s two for two .
In a wise move, “because i liked a boy” came next. A singalong favorite, it’s a seeming response to the wave of attention that stemmed from Olivia Rodrigo ’s “Driver’s License.” It’s also lyrically sharp and satisfyingly blunt: “I'm a homewrecker, I'm a slut. I got death threats fillin' up semitrucks.” Black and white video feeds, with more dynamic camera work than during the rest of the set, added to the moment’s magnitude. So did the sudden, on-stage fireworks.
The singer is known for personalizing each show with a goofy, often raunchy rhyme to cap off her song, “Nonsense.” My neighbors in the crowd had killed some time between Grace Jones’ fantastic set and Carpenter’s start time by speculating about what might rhyme with “Outside Lands.” One of them was half-right; when the time came, Carpenter’s final line was, “Outside Lands it’s like thou art inside me.” The singer covered her face with a hand as she laughed.
Of course, the set ended with “Espresso,” the shimmery, earwormy pop anthem. By then, we’d been treated to a buffet of memorable moments, but I still found myself grinning. When her verses were complete — her last-ditch album marketing wrapped and sealed in the Outside Lands-sized box — Carpenter thanked her dancers and the crowd, and bowed out with a smile.
A woman beside me in the crowd put it well, when it was clear the set was winding down: “I don’t want to leave.”

Music | tesla’s fremont car factory: blockbuster racism lawsuit to go before a jury next year, music | review: sabrina carpenter wows in festival headliner debut at outside lands, sabrina carpenter set to launch major tour in september.
Although the genre has long factored into the offerings, this was the year where mainstream pop really took front and center at the San Francisco music festival.
It opened on Friday with Renee Rapp, the actress who so wonderfully plays Regina George in this year’s “Mean Girls” film adaptation and is in the process of fashioning a convincing solo career as a pop artist. The festival was set to close on Sunday with a performance from Chappell Roan, the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer who is the most buzzed-about act on the entire three-day bill.
And in between fans got to witness soaring young pop star Sabrina Carpenter deliver a fun headlining set on Saturday on the festival’s biggest stage — Lands End.
“Outside Lands, will you scream for me?” Carpenter asked.
We most certainly would, pretty much nonstop, during the course of Carpenter’s roughly 90-minute set. The dance pop star — who first rose to fame with her work in the Disney Channel’s “Adventures in Babysitting” remake in 2016 and its popular “Girl Meets World” series — drew a big, enthusiastic audience to see her perform music from her five- (soon to be six-) album catalog.
It was her first time ever headlining a festival and she’d knock it out of the (Golden Gate) park, combining with a backing band and dance squad to put on dizzying pop spectacle that highlighted both Carpenter’s talent as a vocalist and her massive star power.
And that star power should only grow bigger when she releases her sixth full-length album, “Short n’ Sweet,” on Aug. 23. I fully expect it will debut at No. 1 on the pop charts.
She’d preview that album by playing three numbers, two of which (“Please Please Please” and “Espresso”) fans already knew and deeply loved, as well as another (“Slim Pickins”) with all the makings of becoming yet another hit for the 25-year-old Pennsylvania native. All three numbers went over extremely well with the big audience in attendance.
“Bay Area, it’s so crazy to be here with you,” she said. “There are so many of you.”
One of the highlights of her set came when she invited Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves out on stage and the two supremely talented women joined forces for a snazzy version of the Nancy Sinatra chart-topper “These Boots Are Made for Walkin.'”
(Musgraves returns to NorCal next month for two shows — Sept. 23 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento and Sept. 24 at Chase Center in San Francisco — in support of this year’s “Deeper Well” album.)
In all, Carpenter made great use of an opportunity that originally belonged to somebody else. Yet, Tyler, the Creator — who was initially scheduled to headline the Lands End stage on Day 2 — dropped out for undisclosed reasons (he also cancelled his performance at the previous weekend’s Lollapalooza in Chicago).
So, Outside Lands organizers called upon Carpenter to step up to the challenge and she accepted. Plus, it was a great way to warm up for her upcoming concert tour, which kicks off in late September and, in all likelihood, should further establish Carpenter among the top pop stars of 2024.
The tour includes a stop at Chase Center in San Francisco on Nov. 9.
Other highlights from Outside Lands Day 2 included Grace Jones, the pop/disco/new wave/avant-garde/James Bond icon who has been putting out music since the ’70s. Her set was filled with multiple elaborate costume changes as well as such fan favorites as “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “Slave to the Rhythm.” Yet, the best moment of the set came when she drew upon her church roots for a lovely rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
Also, Charley Crockett delivered a superb set of mostly old-school country tunes (with some blues thrown in as well). He’s the real deal, with a sound that deeply recalls Johnny Cash and, even more so, Dwight Yoakam. Any country fans who misses the days when Merle Haggard ruled the charts should definitely check out Crockett.
Other notable performers on the day included K.Flay, ScHoolboy Q, Postal Service and Fletcher.
Here is the Sabrina Carpenter setlist, based on our notes and information from setlist.fm :
1. “Fast Times” 2. “Read your Mind” 3. “Vicious” 4. “Already Over” 5. “Tornado Warnings” 6. “Opposite” 7. “Interlude” 8. “Bet U Wanna” 9. “Paris” 10. “Feather” 11. “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” 12. “Please Please Please” 13. “Slim Pickins” 14. “Because I Liked a Boy” Encore: 15. “Nonsense” 16. “Espresso”

Summer of Sabrina Carpenter: Hitting No. 1 on the Charts, Getting Advice From Best Friend Taylor Swift and What Barry Keoghan Really Thinks About Her Lyrics
Photographs by Matthew Sprout
Counterpoint, a record store in Los Angeles’ Franklin Village, is probably not the first place one would expect to find Sabrina Carpenter on a sunny Monday afternoon — flipping through a stack of vintage Playboys, no less. The chart-dominating singer-songwriter is sipping a Yerba Mate while she oohs and ahhs at the blond bombshells of various yesteryears when a bright-blue cover featuring a pouty-faced model catches her eye.
“I love the faces of the ’60s and ’90s — old Hollywood, flirty and fun,” Carpenter says. “This is definitely the vibe of my album.”

“Connie Francis is amazing and super underrated,” she says, admiring the cover photo. “Oh, my God, she’s beautiful. She’s really serving.” On July 2, 1960, a 21-year-old Francis became the first female artist to land a No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool.” Almost exactly 64 years later, on June 29, 2024, the 25-year-old Carpenter achieved her first No. 1 with “Please Please Please,” after reaching No. 3 the previous week with “Espresso” (which may have missed the top spot, but on Aug. 5 became the third-fastest song to reach a billion streams on Spotify). The hoped for but unexpectedly stratospheric chart success of the singles has built anticipation for her album to a near fever pitch.
The songs show a seasoning that comes with experience, particularly “Please Please Please” and its hilarious video, which stars her real-life paramour, actor Barry Keoghan, and is written from the perspective of a woman who loves her man but is just about done with his bullshit. For all the pop frothiness of the songs and the candy-flossed imagery, there’s a savvy undercurrent of sass and grit: Both “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” have prominent f-bombs and innuendos in the lyrics.
But maybe not that much sass and grit. After a pause, Carpenter preemptively adds with a smile, “I’m not posing for Playboy — just to be clear.”
While Carpenter was considered a Disney princess for years, her transition from child actor to pop star — a perilous leap that has felled many before her — has been slow, steady and intentional. She admits that she sometimes feels like a new artist, even though she’s about to release her sixth album.
Born and raised in Quakertown, Pa., Carpenter moved to California with her family as a preteen. Her two older sisters, Shannon and Sarah, attended performing arts high schools and introduced her to an early influence — the 2008 musical “13,” starring a pre-Nickelodeon Ariana Grande (whom Carpenter would open for just a few years later). Carpenter showed precocious talent, and her family began taking her to auditions.
“I got a manager — the same one I have now — and he was very realistic,” she recalls. “He said, ‘We’ll send you out for things — no promise that they’re even going to see your tape.’ But then, not to brag, I booked one of the first things I ever went for”: an episode of “Law & Order” in which Carpenter played a victim of abuse by a sex-trafficking ring — at the ripe old age of 11.
“It was such a sad plotline,” she says. “I was just fascinated by all of it. I had spent so much time with adults that I just knew how to talk to them. Now all my friends are my age, but when I was younger, I was always working with adults. I just always knew what to say and how to act.”
At 12, she began a parallel career in music, signing with Disney’s Hollywood Records at the same time she landed the role of Maya in the Disney-produced “Boy Meets World” spinoff series, “Girl Meets World.” Despite the workload that came with pursuing both careers, “I wasn’t, like, grinding and working for hours on end as a child,” she recalls, “but I always felt I had a point to prove.”
Her longtime friend and vocal coach Eric Vetro says, “Not only did she have a great voice for a 12-year-old, she also had an incredibly mature attitude about what she wanted to achieve in her career and how she was going to accomplish it. I worried that she might burn out from starting so young, but those fears evaporated when I witnessed her working harder than ever year after year.”
After a few middling hit singles like “Thumbs” and “Why,” Carpenter released “Singular: Act II,” her fourth and final album for Hollywood, in the summer of 2019, shortly after she turned 20. Around the same time, she ended a yearlong legal battle with her former managers, who claimed they were owed compensation after she terminated their contract. The case was eventually dismissed, and she followed by releasing a tongue-in-cheek song called “Sue Me” that was certified gold and showed some of the burgeoning cheekiness that is blooming now.
Lockdown ended the first phase of Carpenter’s career with a thud, quashing her early 2020 Broadway debut in “Mean Girls” after just two performances. But, as it did for many people, the pandemic led her to a restart. She signed with Island Records, her current label, in January 2021 and the following year released “Emails I Can’t Send,” an introspective and honest coming-of-age album filled with lyrics inspired by real-life events and conflicts with famous peers, ex-boyfriends and even family.
On it, Carpenter references the narrative around a Gen-Z love triangle allegedly involving her and fellow Disney stars Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo. Although the full story has never been revealed, all three singers have released songs inspired by the situation — including Rodrigo’s 2021 breakthrough hit, “Drivers License” — and the ensuing scrutiny from fans and the media. For her part, Carpenter sings in “Because I Liked a Boy,” “Now I’m a homewrecker, I’m a slut / I got death threats fillin’ up semi trucks.” (She declines to discuss the situation further.)
On the album’s title track, Carpenter also touches on the suffering that accompanied her father’s infidelity toward her mother (though the timeline is unclear). “I am a daddy’s girl,” she says. “But my family has just gone through so much that now we’re all in a healing stage. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve started learning about men and relationships. I’m not perfect by any means, but it definitely makes you look at your parents differently.” She concludes: “‘Emails’ was hard to put out, but it marked the beginning of a really freeing and artistic time for me.”
It also became her highest-charting LP to date, reaching No. 23 and remaining on the Billboard 200 albums chart for 43 weeks and then spawning an 80-date international headlining tour.
Following that success, however, the media scrutiny has moved to her other relationships, including her friendship with Taylor Swift, on whose “Eras Tour” Carpenter was an opening act in Latin America, Australia and Singapore. One flash point was Carpenter’s ad campaign for Skims, the clothing company owned by Swift’s bitter rival, Kim Kardashian. While Carpenter has maintained that Swift was aware of the campaign and is fine with it, fans soon twisted that information into sentiments like “Asking for permission to do a campaign is crazy,” as one wrote on X.
The subject comes up in the record store when we notice that Swift’s latest offering, “The Tortured Poets Department,” is filed in the rock section. Without skipping a beat, Carpenter replies, “Well, Taylor is a rock star!” She goes on: “She’s just such a gangster with all of it. No matter what people are saying, everything that I’ve ever seen her tackle, she’s done so with grace. The posts about me having to ‘ask for her permission’ — no . She’s one of my best, best friends, and we grab dinner or text and catch up like you would with your best friend.”
However, she’s more careful in what she reveals about her relationship with Keoghan, although she opens up a bit when asked about the “Basic Instinct”-inspired music video for “Please Please Please,” the lyrics of which say the problematic boyfriend is an actor.
“He loved the song. He’s obsessed with the lyrics, and I’m so grateful for that,” she says. “I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation. So getting to see him on the screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and all the more special.”
Later, as we pass an astrology book in the store, she says, “Barry’s a Libra, and so is my sister. They’re very different, but they have similarities. I tend to gravitate towards Leos as well.” Her smile fades before she adds, “My dad’s a Capricorn, so maybe that’s not the direction for my future.”
Carpenter describes her upcoming record “Short n’ Sweet” as “the hot older sister” of “Emails.” “It’s my second ‘big girl’ album; it’s a companion but it’s not the same. When it comes to having full creative control and being a full-fledged adult, I would consider this a sophomore album.”
That maturity and professionalism is co-signed by her collaborators. “She was always 10 minutes early to every session and still is,” says co-writer Steph Jones. “It was just a matter of timing for her [success], because everyone she’s worked with describes themselves as an instant fan.”
“Sabrina has become a sister to me,” adds Amy Allen, who co-wrote “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” (as well as Top 10 hits this year for Tate McRae and Justin Timberlake). “We spend hours on end talking about any and everything. She makes me laugh ’til I cry. She truly makes me a better writer every time I’m in the room with her.”
The effort has paid off. “Espresso”’s indelible hooks and nonsensical catchphrase, “That’s that me, espresso,” have been quoted and memed by everyone from Cardi B to Brooke Shields — and even inspired an ad for the Paris Olympics. The song, along with stellar performances at Coachella and on “Saturday Night Live,” effectively launched “Sabrina Summer,” which Swift proudly predicted in the first week of June.
However, Carpenter says, “I was completely alone in wanting to release ‘Espresso.’ Not so much from my immediate team. But when it came to ‘the powers above,’” she air-quotes, “there was a lot of questioning behind whether it made sense. But they trusted me in the end, and I was happy that I believed in myself at that moment.”
“It’s no accident that everything is falling into place the way she always wanted,” says Island Records co-CEO Imran Majid. “Sabrina’s instincts and creative vision are incredible. She’s always thinking 10 steps ahead of the market.” Co-CEO Justin Eshak adds, “She’s an inspiration for her fans, collaborators and all of us — she’s one of this generation’s most important artists.”
“It feels easier to write about things that happened in the past, or that haven’t happened yet,” she says. “My producers tell me I’m beating a dead horse because I’ll write a song three years after I last spoke to the person who inspired the lyric. Also,” she adds with a laugh, “and this is my ego talking, but I would be honored to find out someone wrote a song about me, even if it was bad. Like, ‘I triggered you enough to write a song? Go off!’”
Although Carpenter’s music focus has meant an “unwarranted break” from acting, she’s always looking at scripts in the hopes of securing a spot in a musical or an original film, although she says “a lot of them sound like five other already released movies.” She’s waiting for one that feels right.
“I’m 900 inappropriate jokes away from being a Disney actor, but people still see me that way,” she says. “I’m always extremely flattered to be grouped in with the other women and girls who I’ve idolized and looked up to who came from that, but I feel very distant from it.”
By the time we exit the store, Carpenter is clutching a bag full of records: two Beatles solo albums — “Ringo” and Paul McCartney’s “Red Rose Speedway”; an old Island Records promotional compilation, “because it’s my label”; several randos because she liked the artwork; and, finally, a $100 copy of Interview magazine with Keanu Reeves on the cover for her sister. She gushes about the forthcoming vinyl edition of her own album, which includes a non-streaming bonus track (there are also cassette and CD variants with alternative covers). The retro-inspired package was designed by herself, her sister Sarah, Dannah Gottlieb and Chase Shewbridge. “I spent so much time working on the vinyl; I think it’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever made,” she says.
Sarah is coming to pick her up, but first we decide to venture to a neighboring Van Leeuwen ice cream shop. At the entrance, Carpenter stops dead in her tracks when she sees what’s taped to the door: a blown-up poster of her own face, advertising the brand’s limited-edition “Espresso” flavor.
“Oh God,” groans the singer who has been coasting unrecognized (or at least not approached) in the closed-up record store. “How embarrassing is that?”

Sabrina Carpenter Just Admitted That She Doesn’t Like One Of Her Most Iconic Lyrics After She Spotted A Completely Accidental Mistake That Fans Thought Was Intentional This Whole Time
“I didn’t catch it until way after the fact,” Sabrina said of her lyrical error. “Now I’m bringing it to your attention, so I shouldn’t have done that.”
BuzzFeed Staff
When Sabrina Carpenter kicked off her Emails I Can’t Send tour in 2022, she shined a spotlight on one track in particular: “Nonsense.”
At every show, the star ad-libbed a new outro for the song, with each one customized to the city or state she was performing in.
While the tour ended in 2023, Sabrina has continued this tradition during other performances, including her festival appearances and while opening for Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour shows.
The singer has become particularly renowned for the seriously NSFW lyrics that she cleverly incorporates into the outros, and fans waiting to see what she has come up with has quickly become a highlight at each show.
As a result, it’s fair to say that “Nonsense” is one of Sabrina’s most iconic songs to date. However, she recently admitted that she has only just noticed an error in her lyrics that seriously bothers her.
In fact, Sabrina said that it took her two years to notice the jarring mistake, which fans had thought was completely intentional this entire time.
Dissecting “Nonsense” in a new TikTok video with Variety, Sabrina read out the song’s tongue-in-cheek closing lyrics: “Woke up this morning, thought I'd write a pop hit / How quickly can you take your clothes off pop quiz?”
“You know what I realized in hindsight two years later that I don’t like about this lyric?” she then asked. “I say ‘pop’ twice. Not my favorite. I didn’t catch it until way after the fact, I was like: ‘Ugh!’”
“But, y’know, no one has really commented on it,” Sabrina added. “Now I’m bringing it to your attention, so I shouldn’t have done that.”
A couple of fans commented on the TikTok to admit that they, too, dislike this repetition, with one person writing: “Yeah the repeat has always made me mad.”
“It's always bothered me that she says pop twice!” somebody else echoed.
However, the overwhelming consensus from Sabrina’s fans was that they thought that the repetition was the whole point of the lyrics as they expressed their disbelief that she hadn’t picked up on it sooner.
“how did she not notice that…” one person asked, while somebody else wrote: “Pop hit/pop quiz sounds very intentional 😭😭”
“I thought the double pop was intentional and part of the word play,” another user agreed. One more echoed: “i thought she said pop twice on purpose 😭”
“I thought it was intentional!” somebody else wrote.
Others went so far as to say that they actively enjoy Sabrina’s repetition, with one fan commenting: “ive always loved the fact that she uses pop twice in different meanings 🥹🥹”
“I like that she says pop twice I thought that was the point 😂” another added. Somebody else insisted: “It’s cute that she says pop twice, it’s a homophone.”
While one more concluded: “I think it saying pop twice is fun. POP hit, POP quiz. Using the same word but with different meaning is fun and campy.”
Since "Nonsense," Sabrina's quirky lyrics have become a pretty established part of her brand, and are particularly showcased in her summer hit “Espresso,” which repeats: “That’s that me, espresso.”
Speaking during an appearance on Hot Ones last month, the star acknowledged that the grammatically-incorrect line doesn’t work for everybody.
“I heard a lot of people that were like: ‘She should have said that’s that blonde espresso, duh,’” she explained. “‘Me espresso’ just felt like the right thing to say, and it rhymes with the line before it.”
And during an interview with Apple Music, Sabrina added that she likes the fact that her sense of humor comes through in the lyrics to “Espresso.”
“There was something really exciting about the fact that there was so much personality throughout the entire song, because those are ones that are really, really fun to sing live with a crowd,” she said.
Sabrina continued: “Those are the ones that people, I think when they don’t know my music or who I am or anything, they can just tune into a single song and kind of leave with a better idea of my sense of humor.”
