KBS Tour-V Iron Shaft Review

More in reviews:.

2024 Callaway Chrome Tour & Chrome Soft Golf Ball

50 Words or Less

The KBS Tour-V iron shaft is designed to be a lighter weight shaft with a mid-trajectory, low spin, and a tight shot dispersion.

KBS-Tour-V-6

Introduction

After riding on the success of the C-Taper and Tour shafts, it was time for KBS to introduce a new option designed to be the best of both worlds.  KBS’s Tour-V was designed to be a shaft that was lighter in weight , but had a stable tip section with less spin which ultimately results in a tighter shot dispersion .  This review will dive into how well KBS executed on this goal.

KBS-Tour-V-4

If you didn’t know any better, you would look at the KBS Tour-V and think it was any other KBS shaft (except the C-Taper).  It’s a basic chrome steel shaft with traditional steps in it and has the signature inconspicuous red and black KBS shaft label.  To the naked eye, the only difference is that the shaft label says Tour-V on it under the KBS logo.  If you want a traditional looking steel shaft in your irons, the Tour-V definitely fits the bill.

KBS-Tour-V-2

It’s important to open this section with our signature “every golfer will have a different experience with different equipment.”  Personally, I think the KBS C-Taper has some of the best feel and response in steel golf shafts, but the KBS Tour-V feels like the other end of the spectrum for me.  Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t feel bad, but it doesn’t have the same response and feel that I love about the C-Taper.  The Tour-V tends to feel a little stout much like the Tour-V wedge shaft and otherwise a little empty.  I often found myself unsure what kind of shot I had just hit until I looked up at the ball.

KBS-Tour-V-1

Performance

When you have feel issues in golf, you’re more often than not going to have performance issues.  The hallmark of the KBS Tour-V shaft is supposed to be an end result of tighter shot dispersion, but the lack of feel made it tough for me to groove the club to get that tight dispersion.  That said, when I was hitting it well, I was getting a good trajectory with more draw than usual  and definitely low spin .  My biggest problem was that I had difficulty knowing when I was hitting that shot or a shot that sort of fizzled out short and didn’t draw.  When I was hitting good shots, that little bit of higher trajectory gave me about eight more yards in distance, plus the rollout from the lower spin.  The Tour-V definitely has potential for a few extra yards if you’re a good fit for the shaft in your irons.

KBS-Tour-V-8

After testing the KBS Tour-V shaft, I have to say that I generally agree with the claims made by KBS.  As always, I strongly encourage you to get properly fit and test the Tour-V shafts before throwing them into your gamers to make sure they deliver in the way you need them to.  You want to be sure that they not only give you the shape and distance you want, but also the control and accuracy you need.

It’s interesting in totally the other way around. I can’t get a feeling with the c taper shafts and it feels really harsh, but I love the tour v. As you say it’s all about fitting

' src=

You do not mention what stiffness you used. I too, have noticed that the shafts can be “hot”every once in a while and go extra far and tend to over draw. Glad to know it was just not me. I am tinkering with the 120x flex. Guessing you tested extra stiff as well? Can you provide more info on that?

Are you using C-tapers right now? I currently use PX 6.0 and they are very playable to me. I dropped sensicores in them and they feel much better. Looking for a shaft that is smooth, workable (but not a lot), no distance loss etc. Pretty much described my 6.0’s but as I get older would be nice to have all of that plus a few extra yards to offset a declining sspeed. Was hoping the V’s or maybe the new LZ’s can do that. Any suggestions?

' src=

If you look in the pictures, they were stiff flex. I also didn’t say they were necessarily “hot” or “over drawing.” My point was they were an easy draw for me and that flight with the lack of spin resulted in a few extra yards for me when I hit them consistently well.

I do not play C-Tapers at this time. In regards to the suggestion you’re looking for, it’s very difficult for me to advise. Much of what you are looking for is subjective and will be best determined through a proper fitting. It’s well worth the investment.

Good luck in your shaft choice.

What’s the difference between the kbs tour v from the kbs tour v 110?

' src=

I’m not familiar with the 110, and it doesn’t appear on the KBS web site. It’s possible that it’s a variant of the Tour V made specifically for a certain OEMs irons.

' src=

The “Tour V 110” is the stiff flex that you tested. It literally says 110 on the shaft. The 110 on the shaft is the weight of the shaft. Are you sure you even tested these?? It also says 110 on the shaft in your pictures. Shouldn’t have been that hard to put two and two together. If you weren’t in such a hurry to tell someone to get fitted with attitude you might have noticed.

Golf Clown,

Perhaps if you weren’t in such a hurry to leave a “gotcha” comment, you’d have noticed that I didn’t write this review, Bill Bush did. He no longer writes for Plugged In Golf, but I try to offer answers to “his” questions where I can.

' src=

Got eeem! 😱 Golf Clown with the L 🤡

' src=

I got fitted with the KBSV 100s, and I noticed my accuracy and dispersion improved twofold. I love them I’m at 10 handicap 57 years old.

KBS Tour V Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

kbs tour v110 steel

If you were a fan of the KBS Tour shafts but found them to be a bit too heavy or too stout for your swing then the KBS Tour V shaft should definitely be on your radar.

The KBS Tour V was specifically designed to perform as close as the KBS Tour shafts as possible while at the same time being lighter.

The KBS Tour V promises tight shot dispersion through muted spin and of course, the classic feel and performance of the original KBS Tour shafts. So does it deliver? Find out in the following review!

KBS Tour V Shaft Overview

The aesthetics of the KBS Tour V shaft is very on-brand for the company.

You get the almost obligatory polished chrome finish with the red band in the middle containing all the lettering. And like most KBS shafts, the KBS Tour V is a stepped steel shaft. So the looks aren’t anything special; but they will certainly appeal to you if you prefer the look of a traditional iron shaft.

Overall the feel of the KBS Tour V is more muted than the KBS Tour. There isn’t as much response in it. That doesn’t mean it feels stout. In fact, the KBS Tour V shaft feels much more manageable than the KBS Tour. But there is certainly a lack of feedback in it. The kick point is very hard to suss out unless you take a powerful swing. Then, you can feel it just under the grip.

Still, the transition is very smooth. You can barely feel the shaft release; but you know it’s happening because you get really good ball and club head speed with this shaft. Of course, a lot of the enhanced club head/ball speed will depend on how you swing your irons. For our testing group though, the numbers told the story. Almost all of us were seeing increases over our typical ball/club head speed numbers. The proof is in the pudding as they say.

In the end, we would say that the KBS Tour V favors a more aggressive tempo but it still plays nice with a more deliberate tempo as well. In both cases, you are likely to achieve a nice arcing draw and increased carry and rollout.

Why is the KBS Tour V So Popular?

kbs tour v110 steel

The KBS Tour V owes a lot of its popularity to the original KBS Tour shaft and the KBS C-Taper shafts.

These are actually more popular than the KBS Tour V; but their success has prompted a lot of people to take a look at the lighter KBS Tour V.

How Does the KBS Tour V Perform?

After our test session, we concluded that the most beneficial thing about the KBS Tour V is distance.

Yes, we were increasing our ball and club head speed with this shaft and yes, that meant better carry. But there are a couple of other dynamics at play here. First of all, the KBS Tour V absolutely delivers on its promise of low spin. Sidespin is muted marvelously so that you get tighter dispersion and good rollout distance.

Secondly, the KBS Tour V is advertised as a mid launching shaft but we saw mostly high-arcing shots in our test session. The higher launch gave most of our testers better overall carry. So when you combine higher launch, muted sidespin and good rollout, you end up with an iron shaft that plays pretty long.

Of course, there is always the concern that low spin will produce too much rollout and that was certainly on our mind during testing. And in fact, some of us did roll off the green and into the weeds. But if you want to limit the amount of irons you need to get greenside, the KBS Tour V is at least worth a look.

KBS Tour V Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

Regular flex is available for players in the 80-85 MPH swing speed category.

Stiff is a good choice for 86-90 MPH swingers and extra stiff would suit players in the 91-105 MPH range.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The 100g version is good for players in the 80-90 MPH range.

The 110g version may suit 91-95 MPH swingers and the 120g version would be good for players in the 96-105 swing speed spectrum.

Why is it So Good?

The KBS Tour V is a good shaft because it allows players with less aggressive tempos to get the distance help they need on the fairway.

KBS Tour V First Impressions

kbs tour v110 steel

Our first impression was that the KBS Tour V looked like any other KBS shaft.

But when we swung it, we could feel that it actually had less feedback.

Key Features & Performance

The KBS Tour V features large outer diameters and a stiff tip in order to reduce side spin and enhance stability on full swings.

KBS Tour V Irons Review

Like almost all KBS shafts, the KBS Tour V are very stable and accurate – even on your full swings with the long irons. Dispersion is tight as promised and distance is outstanding.

KBS Tour V Wedges Review

The KBS Tour V wasn’t as great in our wedges. The lack of spin made it hard to stay on fast, elevated greens.

KBS Tour V Pros & Cons

  • Very accurate
  • Good for moderate and fast tempos
  • Feels stable on full swings
  • Great distance
  • Classic KBS looks
  • Limited feedback

Overall Score: 95/100

Who Should Buy it?

Muted spin? Check! Tight dispersion? Check! Classic KBS feel? Not so much.

The lack of clear feedback was our biggest gripe about this shaft. Some players may also have issues with excessive rollout. Nevertheless, the KBS Tour V is a great distance iron shaft and it is as accurate as promised.

Kbs tour v 110 shaft review: is it worth the hype [updated jun 2024].

The KBS Tour V 110 shaft is among the most popular options for golfers looking for a high-quality, high-performance shaft. With a reputation for accuracy, control, and consistency, this shaft has become a go-to choice for both amateurs and professionals alike.

In this review, we’ll take a closer look at the KBS Tour V 110 shaft and discuss its features, advantages, and drawbacks, so you can determine whether it’s the right option for you.

The KBS Tour V 110 shaft is a steel shaft designed for intermediate to advanced players looking for a shaft that provides maximum control and consistency. It features a tour-taper design, which means it has a gradual reduction in diameter from the grip to the tip. This design provides a more stable feel and helps reduce dispersion on off-center hits.

The shaft is available in a range of flex options, including regular, stiff, and extra stiff, and can be customized to match your swing speed and style. It’s also compatible with a variety of club heads, making it a versatile option for golfers across all skill levels.

Performance

The KBS Tour V 110 shaft is known for its excellent performance on the course. Its tour-taper design provides a more consistent and stable feel throughout the swing, resulting in higher accuracy and precision. This is especially notable on off-center hits, where the shaft’s design helps reduce dispersion and keep shots on target.

The shaft’s weight distribution also contributes to its performance, with a slightly heavier feel towards the grip end that promotes a smoother and more controlled swing. This weight distribution also helps optimize trajectory and spin rates, resulting in better overall ball flight.

One of the biggest advantages of the KBS Tour V 110 shaft is its level of control and precision. Golfers who have used this shaft report feeling more connected to their swing and more in control of their shots. The shaft’s design also helps reduce dispersion, resulting in tighter shot patterns and higher accuracy.

Another advantage of the KBS Tour V 110 shaft is its versatility. The range of flex options and compatibility with different club heads make it a suitable option for golfers across all skill levels. The customization options also allow for a more personalized feel, which can help golfers optimize their performance on the course.

One potential drawback of the KBS Tour V 110 shaft is its slightly heavier feel. While this can be an advantage for some golfers, others may find it difficult to generate the same swing speed and power as they would with a lighter shaft .

Additionally, the KBS Tour V 110 shaft is a premium option, meaning it comes with a higher price tag than some other shafts on the market. While it’s certainly worth the investment for serious golfers looking to improve their game, it may not be the best option for those on a tight budget.

Overall, the KBS Tour V 110 shaft is a reliable and high-performing option for golfers looking for maximum control and consistency on the course. With its tour-taper design, range of flex options, and versatility, it’s a popular choice among amateurs and professionals alike. While it may not be the most affordable option on the market, its performance and durability make it a worthwhile investment for serious golfers looking to take their game to the next level.

If you’re considering the KBS Tour V 110 shaft for your golf clubs , we hope this review has provided you with all the information you need to make an informed decision. Happy golfing!

KBS Tour Shaft Review

Kbs tour shaft.

The shaft that started it all – the KBS Tour shaft.  Kim Braly’s signature shaft, the KBS Tour, is designed for players that want to be able to play a wide range of shots with more of a mid trajectory.  What most players seem to love the most though is the smooth feel and shot feedback.

KBS Tour Shaft 8

How Does it Feel?

I would put the KBS Tour as the most “neutral” feeling shaft of the KBS lineup.  The Tour does in fact feel incredibly smooth and easy on the hands. I would almost argue that the Tour is even forgiving on your hands on a mishit.  Whereas a typical steel shaft may sting a bit, the Tour seems to absorb the blow more.  Don’t get me wrong, if you hit your MP-18 MB wrong, you’re still going to pay for it in the hands.  It just won’t sting as bad as normal…so I’ve found.  I even commented to our own Jon, “this shaft makes an MB feel much less harsh.”  Jon concurred and promptly tried to steal my clubs.

There is a definite energy transfer at impact, but it has a much more gradual feel as opposed to a precise kickpoint.  I will say that you can tell it’s happening in the middle of the shaft, but it doesn’t feel like a precise snap.  The feeling is much more of a smooth release.   This may sound crazy, but think of it almost like a smooth toss of a baseball that firmly, but not too hard, hits your dad right in the glove while you’re having a catch in the back yard.  That, to me, is the feel of the KBS Tour’s release.

KBS Tour Shaft 2

On-Course Performance

My experience with the KBS Tour shaft is a true testament to “every swing is a snowflake.”  The Tour is supposed to be a mid-launch shaft with medium spin.  Admittedly, I’m not a high-spin iron player as is, but I hit the Tour just about the same average as my lowest spinning shaft of the KBS lineup.  My averages for launch were the lowest of the KBS group to date as well.  That said, I think there’s a decent reason for this.  When reviewing my data, it was apparent that there is a lot of versatility in the KBS Tour .  I was able to easily adjust trajectory while adding or taking spin off of shots.  Being able to easily hit such a variety of shots is a big win for this shaft.

I’ve hit multiple clubs with the Tour in them over the years, albeit never my own set, and the natural shot shape is always the same.  A neutral swing always results in a smooth draw for me.   Let me tell you, my natural shot is not an easy draw.  This draw from the KBS Tour is automatic and seemingly built into the shaft for me.  It’s been consistent enough for me over the years that, along with my testing, it’s hard for me to ignore.  Will this be the case for everyone?  Can’t say, but there’s something there that has my attention and I don’t hate that shot shape.  Just tying ribbons over here (that’s a shot tracer on TV reference)…

KBS Tour Shaft 6

Final Thoughts

My opinion is that the KBS Tour is a solid all-around iron shaft.  I think other shafts in the KBS lineup have a little more of a “wow factor” to them, but the Tour is solid for a wide range of players that want a premium shaft with versatility.  A smooth profile and easy shotmaking should make the KBS Tour appealing to golfers of all skill levels.  Including the best in the world .

Hi Bill. I am a young 38 with a lot of golf life left in him. I took the pandemic as an opportunity to know and own my swing. Despite my gains in accuracy and a new found draw and occasionally hook, I am looking for my next iron shaft. I have been told my swing is a bit aggressive, and my irons have always gone high – no problem getting the ball in the air. Would you say the Tour is a good shaft for a golfer with this description? I was also considering the new KBS Tour Lites. Did you see much difference between the Tour and the Tour lite in the numbers. Thanks!

' src=

Tour Lite will likely go even higher. If you have an aggressive swing, the Tour might be a bit soft and high too. I would think you need to go with something more stout/firm. Maybe Tour V?

' src=

Would you recommend this golf shaft to someone that isn’t a beginner at golf but doesn’t get out as much to play? I have steel shafts now and I want something lighter but not as light as a graphite shaft. Thanks!

Yeah, I wouldn’t say it’s a measure of “skill set” but more how your swing will interact with the equipment.

' src=

Hey Bill – I’m a 34 y/o single-digit handicapper that’s always been a strong, aggressive ball striker. I recently made the switch from an old set of Titleist ZM forged musclebacks (classic Dynamic Gold stiff 120g shafts) to T100s with Project X 6.5 shafts. I know this is contrary to almost everyone, but I absolutely hate my T100s (and I’m a Titleist lover). I rarely find the sweet spot; have lost 10-ish yards per club; and chunk more shots than ever. I do hit them very straight though, but my shots are low and short. I’m going to switch back to a muscleback iron set, because I just love them! I’ve actually been recommended the direct-to-consumer Takomo 301 MBs by several people, which you might have heard of. I’m wondering if you have any suggestions on a KBS shaft. I’m thinking about going with either the KBS Tour or C Taper in stiff 120g. Maybe the move from the Dynamic Gold stiff 120g to Project X 6.5 125g could have made that much of a difference in my distance, trajectory, etc? From what I’ve seen, the lofts are very similar. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Don’t know anything about those irons, sorry. But I can tell you that the KBS Tour has pretty much nothing in common with the other three shaft options you listed. The C-Taper is a stout low launch/spin option and the PX is closer to that. The dynamic gold is somewhere in between those two and the KBS Tour. I think you need to do some testing/fitting to really get the answer you’re looking for in your game. With the game it sounds like you’re talking about, anything else would just be a blind guess with a hole and a prayer.

Thank you so much, sir! I’ve set up a fitting with a Golf Digest top 100 fitter next Saturday. I’ve always been cheap on golf (other than my CC membership) and have never had a lesson. That, coupled with me being left-handed, has always prevented me from seeking a professional club fitting. But, I’m going to finally treat myself a do so! God bless!!!

KBS Tour V Shaft Review and Comparison to KBS Tour

KBS Tour V

Overall, our testers rated the Tour V 4.4 out of 5 based on the following:

Appearance:  Typical KBS silver finish same as their Tour shaft.

Flexes Available:    R, S and X in taper tip only, 3-9 iron (use 9 iron shaft for wedges).  From a design perspective, the thing we like is that the flexes will be consistent versus the Tour version, which does not always happen when you go to a lighter version of the same shaft.  So, if you are playing an S in the Tour, you will get very close to the same CPM in the Tour V.  Same with the R and X.

MSRP:  $75.00 USD

Availability:   KBS, qualified fitters, and select retail golf stores.

Weight Consistency:   4.8 out of 5.0

Butt Stiffness (CPM):  Consistent increase in CPM from R through X.   R will play lower end of R, S will play low-mid S, and X will play mid-X.  Consistency is 4.7 out of 5.

Tip Stiffness:   Medium

Mid Stiffness:  Medium

Balance Point:  Will yield an average swing weight.

Torque:   Good transition of higher torque in R flex to lowest torque in X flex.  Low torque rating overall.

SQI (Shaft Quality Index):  91.1 out of 100  ( Average).  The S and X flexes are the highest quality.  The test samples we received were not as consistent in the R flex.

Trajectory:  Launch angle is mid.  Tested against the Tour, the Tour V was .5 to 2.0 degrees higher launch.

Spin:  Mid spin.  The spin rate was 600 – 800 rpm lower with the Tour V than the Tour, or roughly 11% lower.

Feel:  Solid feel for all testers.  Felt smoother than the Tour for all testers.

General:   This will be a good addition to the KBS line.  Some stronger players overpower the KBS 90 but like the feel of a lighter weight shaft so the Tour V should fit that bill perfectly.

KBS launches ‘Tour-V’ iron shaft

kbs tour v110 steel

KBS has announced the release of its new “Tour-V” steel iron shaft, which is lower spinning than the KBS “Tour” shaft and weighs about 10 grams less.

The Tour-V (known as the “Tour V2” in its prototype phase) has been in development since early 2012. It was first used on the PGA Tour by Phil Mickelson, who worked with KBS shaft designer Kim Braly to create a shaft that had the feel of the KBS Tour, but produced a lower launch and less spin.

Click here to see the other clubs and shafts Mickelson uses.

To make the shaft, Braly lengthened the step pattern of the KBS Tour, while also increasing the outside diameter of the shaft and thinning its walls. Those changes gave the shaft a lower ball flight, and also made it 10 grams lighter.

“Dispersion with the Tour-V is some of the tightest we have ever seen and it maintains our signature smooth feel at impact,” Braly said in a KBS press release. “Lighter weight has become more popular and this allows golfers to swing a little easier.”

The Tour V is available for pre-order immediately, and will begin shipping on Nov. 1. The shafts will be offered in three flexes: R (100 grams), S (110 grams) and X (120 grams). The Tour-V will also be the stock shaft offering for  Callaway’s Apex Pro irons, which will be available in early 2014.

Above: The KBS Tour-V shaft (left), has a larger outside diameter and thinner walls in the tip section than the KBS Tour (right).

IMG_2763

Above: Notice how the KBS Tour-V shafts, when paired side-by-side with the KBS Tour shafts, have longer steps (in both pairings, the KBS Tour is on the left and the Tour-V is on the right). This change, combined with the change in wall thickness and outside diameter, gives the shaft a more penetrating flight.

In June, the KBS launched its C-Taper Lite iron shaft , which filled a gap between the KBS Tour 90 and KBS Tour shafts. The Tour-V fits between the company’s C-Taper and KBS Tour shafts, offering the smooth feel of the KBS Tour with a launch and spin that is closer to the C-Taper.

Please make a new KBS Tour V shaft in Stiff @ 125g, and S+ @ 130g for us regular players. Tour V X flex @ 120g are a tad lite, and too stiff, but I do like the stable mid section.

V Tapers are great shafts. Sure, the availability of other shafts are at your fingertips however; know your equipment, know your game and master your skills. With that said, the V taper is lighter for a reason they’ll definitely help you slow that out of control swing down.

Just ordered a set of these and they are $30.00 per shaft. I play DG now & have been looking for something with a little higher launch & the same spin. I had the c-tapers and they were good but a little to low. Always loved the feel of KBS vs DG & PX I just hope these fit in where they say they will.

Any update on performance of Tour V? Compared to DG and PX? Thanks!

Unbelievable, just crazy fantastic! These golf companies are beginning to sound like soap commercials. It has to be better because it’s new and improved. Sorry, but just does not blow my dress up.

How many shafts can you make that are “lower launch, lower spin”….here is a newsbreaker….no amateur can hit thee like a pro…get yourself a great DG shaft and call it a day and take lessons

kbs tour v110 steel

Sep 30, 2013 at 9:49 pm

Al…..amateurs can hit these shafts. I was a 19 handicapper early this year playing super game improvement irons. I found the stock shafts to be too whippy in my backswing and my dispersion was all over the place. I was handed a set of Adam cmb irons with the kbs tour c-taper in 120 g stiff flex to hit and it was like instant magic dispersion is at an all time low and my handicap sits at a 9 right now. My club head speed for a driver is 104-107. I believe it all lies in proper fitting for correct shafts. I was typically a high ball hitter almost ballooning the ball too much with the game improvement irons. The c-tapers brought this down to where it should be.. I’m not saying it’s for everyone but darn worth trying out, you may just be surprised.

Maybe you should lay off the drinks and save some brain cells. They’re s actually a lot of am’s that can hit it as good or better than most pro’s. But it’s a game called golf, not ball-striking.

+1 to Cannon’s comment. I know at least 2-3 golfers who can easily turn pro, but decided not to. They actually better than many players on Tour (Yes, I have played with them). Hey, they can play like a Pro doesn’t mean they have to be a Pro, or be on Tour.

DG shafts don’t work for everyone. Times changes things. There are more shaft options than there used to be and some golfers are going to like the Tour V a quite a bit better than the DG shaft.

Product Reviews

Titleist vokey wedgeworks l grind review – club junkie reviews.

kbs tour v110 steel

Titleist Vokey wedges might offer golfers the widest range of sole options to suit any swing type, condition, or shot type out there. Countless professionals use Vokey wedges each week and if you look in the bags at local courses you will see a lot of them in play there as well. While sole options are plentiful, Vokey just released another option, the L grind, for their 58 and 60-degree lob wedges. Listen to the full review, in-depth, on the Club Junkie podcast below or on any podcast platform.

kbs tour v110 steel

Vokey’s L Grind is a low bounce, 4-degree grind that allows the leading edge to get close to the ground while still offering trailing edge, heel, and toe relief. This sole allows you to get the leading edge of the wedge down on the turf for shots of tight and firm lies. Relief on the wedge is going to allow the player to open the face without that leading edge coming up off the turf so you can hit higher lofted shots easily. This L Grind is only available in Vokey’s Raw finish, so the wedge will rust over time and use.

kbs tour v110 steel

When you open the box on a Raw Vokey, it is always hard to tell if it is a Tour Chrome as the polish to the raw metal looks that good. Just holding the club in my hand, the L Grind looks a lot like an M Grind with the way they shaped the sole. I won’t lie, I was a bit nervous taking out a wedge with 4 degrees of bounce as I play in Metro Detroit and we rarely find tight and firm lies here. Around our greens is soft and lush with deep rough and bunkers with firmer sand. I tend to get a little steep with my wedges and have always used higher-bounce wedges. This year I was fit into SM10 50.12F, 56.14F, and 60.10S wedges. I thought this L grind was light years from my 60.10S, so I proceeded with caution and took it straight to the course. I had a 58.04L sent to me so I switched up my wedge setup to accommodate that.

kbs tour v110 steel

Out on the course, I was shocked by the first shot with the 58.04L as it sped through the deep rough, popped the ball in the air, and plopped it into the green. I was short-sided and the ball released past the whole as I expected it to, resting about 8ft away for par. Shots out of the rough, whether partial or closer to full, were easy and drama-free. The L Grind glided through the deeper grass with little extra effort and faster than my S Grind. I rarely got to deep and slid under the ball, but when that did happen the ball came out with some spin and control, holding the green.

kbs tour v110 steel

Off the fairway is where the L Grind really shined for me as I used it for more shots than I normally would have. I am usually a sand wedge player around the green unless I have to go to the lob for a short sided shot or to carry a bunker. Off the fairway you could just thump the sole of the wedge into the turf and it would quickly slide through, producing a shallower divot than I expected. The divot was honestly not much deeper or bigger than what I see with my 56.14F sand wedge. After the first shot I thought I just hit a good one and I would see additional digging soon, but that wasn’t the case. Partial shots from right off the green to about 40 yards offered great turf interaction. Opening the face was easy and the leading edge staying down gave a poor wedge player confidence to swing a little faster and hit a more solid shot.

Spin, as you would expect from a Vokey wedge, was high and predictable with shots checking up hard upon landing. I really liked playing the ball back in my stance a touch and pressing the wedge forward to hit a low, high spin, shot that checked up hard and then released towards the hole. Out of the trap the L Grind plays well as you can see a good amount of dynamic bounce when you open the face. The float wasn’t as good as my S Grind and if you hit the L Grind fat you could definitely come up short, but the L was very capable out of the firmer traps here.

kbs tour v110 steel

Overall, the L Grind is a really solid option that is more versatile than its 4-degree bounce description. Players who play in softer conditions or have steeper swings don’t have to shy away from this wedge as I think it plays like a higher bounce sole. I don’t think there is a shot in the book that you can’t hit with this wedge, it is built to do it all.

Matt Fitzpatrick makes switch to Titleist T100 ‘Fitz grind’ irons

kbs tour v110 steel

Editor’s note: This is an excerpt of an article our Andrew Tursky filed for PGATour.com’s Equipment Report. Read the full piece here.

After testing Ping’s Blueprint S irons following the 2023 Ryder Cup, however, Fitzpatrick finally made an iron switch in 2024.

Then, at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship, Fitzpatrick switched from a Titleist Pro V1x 2019 golf ball into a newer 2021 Pro V1x, and at the U.S. Open last week, Fitzpatrick made a drastic iron change into a set of Titleist T100 irons.

kbs tour v110 steel

The reason for the major switch-ups?

“To me, I just needed a little bit more flight and a little bit more spin, and the combination of the ball and the irons did that for me,” Fitzpatrick said on Monday of the Travelers Championship.

The Titleist T100 irons have a Tour-inspired, compact head shape at address, but with a cavity-back construction and added Tungsten in the heads for improved forgiveness and launch. Fitzpatrick’s irons are especially unique, though, because they come with a special grind on the leading edge that helps Fitzpatrick achieve the turf interaction, spin and height that he wants.

Patrick Cantlay has a similar leading edge grind on his Titleist AP2 718 irons, but Fitzpatrick assured GolfWRX.com on Tuesday that his is different. He dubbed it, the “Fitz grind.”

Three Swing Challenge: Testing the Fujikura Ventus Blue powered by VeloCore+

kbs tour v110 steel

The first shaft has entered the Three Swing Challenge’s Arena! This week we have the 2024 Fujikura Ventus Blue powered by VeloCore+. Be sure to let us know what you think, and what you want to see tested next!

Why three swings?

Many years ago, the legendary Barney Adams, founder of Adams Golf told us this:

“My formula as a fitter was three shots only. I discounted No. 1 just because it was the first one, counted 100 percent of No. 2 and discounted No. 3 because the player was starting to adjust.”

Yes, I'd like to know more as well. I have had the SF i110s for almost 2 full season's. I love the SF and have had great results with them, the only issue I have is that since they are a little butt heavy, and therefor counter balanced a bit, I throw in the occasional pull because it's a little easier to get quick from the top. Absolutely love the feel and flight, especially in wind. I am curious about the Tour-V performance, hopefully somebody can chime in.

  • 1 month later...

Anybody been able to compare Steelfibers to Tour-V yet?

Tour V's were on the light side for me. I've played them in my Apex Pros before switching them out. I wish they had made a set a 120g instead of the much stiffer limited edition 125's in S+. I couldn't feel the club wit the Tour V's as much as I would have liked and when I went after one a bit and stepped on it, they lost feel.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tour V stiff compared to the i95 stiff . . . the Tour V definitely felt softer in the tip and did launch the ball a little higher...the shaft did not feel too flexible, though. (I swing the 6 iron around 90 mph, with an early release, and am a decent ball striker). I was also comparing the Hogan 4 shafts, and the Tour V felt very similar to that shaft. I like the i95, however, it may be a little on the light side, as I tend to over hook the shots when swinging too hard. I did try adding about 5 grams to the club head, which helped. All said and done, I prefer the Tour V shaft over the i95. Since I also have a set of older Apex irons, with the #4 shaft, those will be in the bag. However, when it's time for new irons, I'll definitely short list the Tour V's, they have a great feel to them. [quote name='jasonnj1978' timestamp='1412954852' post='10265685'] [quote name='Bettie' timestamp='1412312048' post='10228175'] I have been playing the i95s straight in this season, and have now installed a Tour V stiff in my 6 iron, to try out. 1. Tour-v

The KBS TOUR-V is a lightweight product that features larger outer diameters, resulting in a stable tip section and tight shot dispersion. For players that prefer a lighter weight shaft and less ball spin, the KBS TOUR-V is the ideal shaft option. Flex. Tip Diameter.

  2. KBS Tour-V Iron Shaft Review

Personally, I think the KBS C-Taper has some of the best feel and response in steel golf shafts, but the KBS Tour-V feels like the other end of the spectrum for me. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't feel bad, but it doesn't have the same response and feel that I love about the C-Taper. The Tour-V tends to feel a little stout much like the ...

  3. KBS Tour V Vs KBS Tour Shaft Comparison Overview

KBS Tour V Shaft Overview. "The KBS Tour V shaft is available in regular, stiff and extra stiff flex. There are 100g, 110g and 120g weights available.". The KBS Tour V was designed to be a lightweight option compared to the standard KBS Tour. It lacks a 125g and 130g weight option and instead offers a 100g version which is ten grams lighter ...

  4. KBS Tour V Shaft Review

The KBS Tour V promises tight shot dispersion through muted spin and of course, the classic feel and performance of the original KBS Tour shafts. ... And like most KBS shafts, the KBS Tour V is a stepped steel shaft. So the looks aren't anything special; but they will certainly appeal to you if you prefer the look of a traditional iron shaft.

  5. KBS Tour V 110 Shaft Review: Is It Worth the Hype ...

The KBS Tour V 110 shaft is a steel shaft designed for intermediate to advanced players looking for a shaft that provides maximum control and consistency. It features a tour-taper design, which means it has a gradual reduction in diameter from the grip to the tip. This design provides a more stable feel and helps reduce dispersion on off-center ...

  6. KBS Tour-V Iron Shaft Review

The biggest difference between the two is that the Tour-V will launch a little higher than the C-Taper. If you're the kind of iron player that can load a shaft and likes to "shoot darts," then I would definitely put the Tour-V on your radar. Previous. The KBS Tour-V iron shaft is designed to have a firmer feel, low spin, and mid launch.

  7. KBS Tour Shaft Review

The Tour does in fact feel incredibly smooth and easy on the hands. I would almost argue that the Tour is even forgiving on your hands on a mishit. Whereas a typical steel shaft may sting a bit, the Tour seems to absorb the blow more. Don't get me wrong, if you hit your MP-18 MB wrong, you're still going to pay for it in the hands.

  8. KBS Tour-V Steel Iron Shafts

The KBS Tour-V is a lightweight, low spin shaft that PGA Pros are going gaga over! Phil Mickelson used this exact shaft to win The Open Championship, and he along with other pros have made the switch. This shaft compliments the KBS line perfectly: it is lighter weight than the original super popular KBS Tour shaft, and it also imparts less spin.

  9. KBS Tour V Shaft Review and Comparison to KBS Tour

The spin rate was 600 - 800 rpm lower with the Tour V than the Tour, or roughly 11% lower. Feel: Solid feel for all testers. Felt smoother than the Tour for all testers. General: This will be a good addition to the KBS line. Some stronger players overpower the KBS 90 but like the feel of a lighter weight shaft so the Tour V should fit that ...

  10. KBS launches 'Tour-V' iron shaft

Sep 30, 2013. By. GolfWRX Staff. KBS has announced the release of its new "Tour-V" steel iron shaft, which is lower spinning than the KBS "Tour" shaft and weighs about 10 grams less. The Tour-V (known as the "Tour V2" in its prototype phase) has been in development since early 2012. It was first used on the PGA Tour by Phil ...

  11. KBS Tour-V Iron Shaft

The KBS Tour-V is a slightly modified version of the popular KBS Tour shaft. The KBS Tour-V shafts are lighter than the original KBS Tour and also feature a larger tube diameter to produce a mid level launch angle with lower spin for a significantly tighter shot dispersion. You can purchase the KBS Tour-V in the following flexes: regular, stiff ...

On 2/11/2021 at 6:09 PM, JJgolfwrx said: Tour-V Stiff will play consideribly stiffer than Eevate Tour in stiff. 16. KBS Tour V vs Steelfiber i110

Tour V stiff compared to the i95 stiff . . . the Tour V definitely felt softer in the tip and did launch the ball a little higher...the shaft did not feel too flexible, though. (I swing the 6 iron around 90 mph, with an early release, and am a decent ball striker).

  17. KBS Tour v vs Dynamic Gold S300

Launch and Spin: The KBS Tour V offers a mid-launch and mid-spin trajectory, while the Dynamic Gold S300 provides a low to mid-launch and low-spin trajectory.
