If you’re getting ready for a cruise you’re probably thinking about what you’ll need to bring on your cruise vacation. However, it’s just as important do you know what you cannot bring on your cruise.

Cruising is different than a land vacation and even airplanes. In fact, you might be surprised to find out some of the items that are actually prohibited on cruise ships!

While some things are obvious, others may seem a bit weird or strange, and can even get you in trouble if you bring them. There are also some practical travel items that you might normally bring on a vacation, but aren’t allowed onboard cruise ships .

In this post, I share the prohibited items you can’t take on your cruise. However, if you have questions about what not to pack (like hairdryers, hangers or towels), you’ll want to read this post .

Clothing Irons and Steamers

Many people wonder if they can bring clothing steamers or irons on a cruise ship . Since these things are a potential fire hazard, they’re prohibited to be brought on a cruise ship. Fire is considered to be the worst thing that could happen on a cruise ship and therefore this is strictly enforced.

It might be surprising to know, especially if you’re cruising for the first time , that unlike a hotel room, you won’t have an iron in your cruise cabin .

If you do need to get wrinkles out of your cruise outfits , some cruise ships have public laundry rooms that cruise passengers can use. You can also use the ship’s laundry and pressing service at an additional fee .

Cruise tip: Use packing cubes and roll items t o prevent wrinkles as much as possible. Then, bring along a travel size Downy Wrinkle Release for touch ups.

Coffee Makers, Kettles and Mug Warmers

People try to bring all sorts of things onto cruise ships, however most are best left at home. Coffee makers, kettles, hot plates, mug warmers cannot be brought on a cruise.

Surge Protected Power Bars

Surge protected power strips and extension cords are not allowed on a cruise. Since cruise ship staterooms often don’t have enough electric and USB outlets, many cruisers bring a non-surge protected power bar instead.

CBD Products and Marijuana

Illegal substances including marijuana are prohibited on cruise ships. CBD products are also not allowed, even if it’s medicinal or legal in certain states.

Guns, knives and other weapons aren’t allowed on board cruise ships. Some less obvious weapons that are listed as cruise line banned items include throwing stars and pepper spray.

Candles and Incense

Anything with an open flame is a fire hazard and not allowed. So candles and incense can’t be brought on board a cruise ship.

Cruise line policies on drones vary, as you can never fly a drone above the cruise ship while at sea. Some cruise lines allow you to bring a drone on board and store it in your cabin. Other cruise lines forbid drones completely.

Cruise ports also have strict rules as to when and where you can fly a drone. Make sure to check with your cruise line before you bring on on board, as it can be confiscated.

Homemade Food

While you are allowed to bring packaged snacks onboard a cruise , such as chips, candies and granola bars, homemade food is not permitted.

Liquor or Beer

Cruise lines don’t permit passengers to bring hard alcohol or beer onboard the cruise ship. However, if you enjoy wine, most cruise lines allow you to bring one bottle of wine per adult

Wheeled Shoes, Hoverboards and Skateboards

Shoes with wheels, hoverboards and skateboards could all be dangerous on a cruise ship and are not allowed.

Pool Noodles and Inflatable Pool Toys

While they might be fun, there’s simply no room in cruise ship pools for inflatable pool toys, so best to leave them at home. If you’re cruising with young children , life jackets for swimming are usually available.

Toy guns or gun replicas are not permitted on a cruise.

Baby Monitors

Surprising to many, you can’t take baby monitors on most cruise lines. Do check your cruise line website for their rules and policies on prohibited items.

Kayaks and Surfboards

Kayaks, canoes and surfboards are not allowed on a cruise ship. According to cruise line policies, anything that can be launched off a cruise ship is prohibited.

In some cases you are able to bring items that you might use in a cruise port onto a ship and leave them in your cabin. So do you check with your cruise line.

Flying toys like kites are prohibited on a cruise ship.

Fireworks are a fire hazard and can’t be taken onto a cruise ship.

Dive Tanks & Diving Knives

Cruise lines won’t permit you to bring dive tanks onto the cruise ship, however the policy on diving knives may vary from cruise line to cruise line. In some cases, short diving knives can be taken onboard, however they may not be kept in the passenger’s possession.

Cruise passengers are always advised to check the information for your specific sailing and booking.

Hookah Pipes

Although you can smoke cigarettes and cigars on a cruise in designated areas, as well as vape and smoke e-cigarettes, hookah pipes are not allowed.

Restraints of any kind, including handcuffs cannot be brought on a cruise.

Helium Balloons

It might seem fun to bring helium balloons on a cruise to celebrate or even decorate your cruise cabin door , however they aren’t permitted.

Meat or Fish Products

No perishable food can be taken onboard a cruise ship, nor can you bring fish or meat.

You might be wondering why this might happen? Perhaps on a fishing shore excursion or even in Alaska when people may want to bring home some “fresh” salmon packed on ice.

While you can’t bring fish or meat onto a cruise ship, companies may be able to pack and ship the items to your house instead.

Metal Detectors

Metal detectors are on the prohibited items list for most cruise lines. It seems that they could cause a problem with the ships electrical and navigational systems.

Can you bring an electric or usb air pump to deflate spaces bags on NCL? I can’t find anywhere that they are prohibited

Thanks for your list! We’re leaving on our first cruise (Royal – Quantum of the Seas – Alaska) in a couple weeks and I’m so excited. I’m curious about your comment re: CPAP machines. Why do I need to contact the cruise line about that?

So that they can provide you with distilled water, and an extension cord if needed. It’s always better to let the cruise line know about any special or medical needs when possible.

I need to know if I can bring a 12 pack of diet Dr pepper in the can on carnival cruise ship and what about whip cream in my luggage or vinegar in a plastic bottle?

My husband has glaucoma and has two different eye drops he has to do in the morning and at night. The night drop has to remain in the refrigerator. Are there any small refrigerators in the cabins and if not how can we handle this issue. Please and thank you!

Yes, there are usually small refrigerators in the cabins. However, since this is medical, you may want to contact the cruise line to inquire to be sure. I’m sure they’ll provide you with a solution.

What items are prohibited onboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship?

Firearms & Ammunition , including realistic replicas.
Sharp Objects , including all knives and scissors. (Note: Personal grooming items such as safety razors are allowed. Scissors with blade length less than 4 inches are allowed.)
Illegal Drugs & Substances
CBD Oil / CBD Products
Candles, Incense, Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, Travel Steamers & Hot Plates. (Items that generate heat or produce an open flame. This includes heating pads, clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense, and any other item that may create a fire hazard. NOTE: The only exception to this policy is curling irons and hair straighteners. Matches and normal lighteners are allowed onboard. However, "torch lighters" and novelty lighters that look like guns are not allowed onboard. Torch lighters emit a powerful concentrated flame, and therefore are prohibited.
Hoverboards
Martial Arts, Self Defense, and Sports Gear, including handcuffs, pepper spray, night sticks.
Flammable Liquids and Explosives, including lighter fluid and fireworks.
Hookahs & Water Hookah Pipes
Electrical Extension Cords, including power strips/surge protected strips
Dangerous Chemicals, including bleach and paint.
Perishable Food & Meat Products
Alcoholic Beverages (beer, seltzer or hard liquor) seized on embarkation day will not be returned.

Packing for a cruise? These items aren’t allowed on board

Few events are more exciting than a cruise vacation. However, packing for a cruise can sometimes temper that enthusiasm — especially when you realize that items you'd like to bring are banned by the cruise lines.

What shouldn't you pack for a cruise? Most cruise lines adhere to similar lists of prohibited items, found in their websites' Help or FAQ sections. Be warned: Some lines ban items you might think would be acceptable to bring on board.

TPG has you covered. We've compiled a list of things not to bring on your cruise, whether universally prohibited or only allowed by specific cruise lines. Whether it's your first or fiftieth cruise, it's always good to check with your line to determine what to pack and what to leave at home.

Electrical appliances

Clothes irons and steamers

Your cruise ship is much like a floating resort. However, unlike in a hotel room, your cabin won't have an iron for you to use. That's not to say you should bring your own — quite the opposite. Irons and steamers are considered a fire hazard, so they're banned from your room.

If wrinkled clothes stress you out, bring a small bottle of wrinkle-release spray. Or, check to see if your ship includes a public laundry room. Many do, and they include irons and boards for passengers to use. Also, washing, pressing and dry-cleaning services are usually available for a fee. If all else fails, hang your garments in the bathroom while you take a steamy shower.

Coffeemakers and electric tea kettles

You can add electrical appliances like coffeemakers, electric tea kettles and the like to this list, too. Don't worry: Your ship will provide plenty of places to satisfy your need for caffeine.

If you absolutely must make your own coffee, pack a small French press, and fill it with hot water from the buffet. Need a hot beverage in your room each morning? Order one from room service.

Most lines — including Royal Caribbean, Disney, Celebrity, Cunard, Seabourn and Viking — do allow guests to bring flat irons or curling irons on board.

As of this writing, MSC Cruises is the outlier on this one and includes "hair irons" on its list of prohibited items. (In my experience, I've always been able to take hairstyling appliances on MSC ships without incident, but if you try it, do so at your own risk.)

If you're on a ship that does allow flat irons, steer clear of the fire sensors when using it. I can speak from experience about their sensitivity.

During a recent cruise aboard Virgin Voyages ' Scarlet Lady, the heat from my flat iron triggered the alarm. It resulted in a call from the captain, as well as a visit from security to ensure I wasn't smoking or burning a candle in my room.

Sharp objects

Most cruise lines — such as Norwegian , Royal Caribbean and Holland America — ban scissors and knives with blades longer than 4 inches. Other lines, including Disney , prohibit knives regardless of blade length; this includes straight razors.

Safety razors for personal grooming are allowed on all lines, though.

CBD and marijuana

Each state in the United States individually interprets and enforces laws relating to CBD use. However, because of the ambiguity of the laws, most cruise lines ban CBD in any form.

Although several states have decriminalized the possession and use of marijuana, it's still illegal under U.S. federal law. That means even if you can legally buy it in your home state for recreational or medical use, you can't cruise with it .

Extension cords and surge-protected power strips

The design of most newer ships accommodates the need for ample electrical outlets and conveniently located USB ports in your cabin. If you're sailing on an older ship, your cabin might be sparse in the outlet department.

If you're tempted to bring a power strip with you, make sure it's not a surge-protected strip. Those are banned on most cruise lines and will be confiscated.

Look instead for cruise-compliant power strips with extra plug receptacles and USB charging ports or a European plug adapter so you can use both the 110-volt and 220-volt outlets in your cabin.

Before you pack an extension cord, check with your cruise line. Some — like Carnival, MSC , Norwegian and Virgin Voyages — permit guests to use power cords in their cabins. Cunard, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises do not.

An exception to that rule might be in the case of medical equipment, as stated in Cunard's packing rules: "We also ask that you don't bring extension cords with you, unless they are accompanying essential medical equipment, such as CPAP and nebulizer machines."

Candles and incense

Safety is a priority on every cruise, and fire is the biggest threat to ship safety. So, it makes sense that candles or anything requiring the use of real fire would be banned for onboard use. Instead, consider battery-operated tea lights to set the mood.

If my flat iron can set off a fire sensor (see above), I can only imagine how quickly actual fire would set off alarms.

Drones and kites

You might want that perfect aerial shot for Instagram from above the ship or at one of your ports of call. You'll need to check with your cruise line first, though. Some ships allow them in your luggage, while all lines prohibit them from being flown from the ship.

The same rule largely applies to kites and other similar items meant to be flown. However, some ships ban those, too. For example, kites are included on Disney Cruise Line's list of items that are "restricted for safety reasons and should not be brought on board."

This might seem like a no-brainer. However, even firearm replicas — non-firing guns, imitations, toys and their components — are prohibited aboard cruise ships. That includes water guns.

Some decorations

If you're celebrating a special occasion or holiday, or you're pumped about decorating your cabin door or room, proceed with caution. Items like party poppers and helium-filled balloons make most cruise lines' lists of prohibited items.

Disney and Carnival say "no" to bringing balloons on board, while Royal Caribbean and MSC allow them.

Although balloons are absent from Norwegian's list of prohibited items, the line eliminated cruise cabin door decorations in 2019, stating: "As per safety requirements, stateroom door decorations are strictly prohibited. Your stateroom steward has been instructed to remove and place all decorations inside the room."

Couldn't finish those loaded nachos you ordered from the hotel restaurant last night? Don't even think about bringing them on board. The same goes for Meemaw's homemade snickerdoodles, which you snacked on during your road trip to the cruise port.

Though each cruise line words its food prohibition differently, homemade or precooked foods are a no-no across the board. Passengers are permitted to bring prepackaged, unopened (in original packaging), nonperishable snacks, though. Take advantage of this exception to the rule to bring your kids' favorite cookies, granola bars or fruit snacks or specialty items that accommodate your food allergy or special diet.

Make sure to finish that vanilla latte before you board, too. You can't embark with an open or partially consumed beverage.

This rule shouldn't cause concern; you will be fully sated during your vacation at sea. Honestly, if you can't find enough to eat or drink on a cruise, you're doing it wrong.

Certain sunscreens

Certain sunscreens are banned, not by the cruise line, but by the ports they visit. Why? Although currently deemed safe for human use, sun-blocking ingredients like octinoxate, oxybenzone and octocrylene are damaging to fragile reef systems.

The chemicals play a part in reef bleaching that's linked with warming sea temperatures. The chemicals may also harm other kinds of marine life, according to some researchers . Because of this, they're banned from use in certain destinations, and use of them could result in a fine of $1,000 or more.

If your cruise itinerary includes any of these destinations, choose your sunscreen carefully:

U.S. Virgin Islands
Key West, Florida
Ecotourism reserves in Mexico (including natural water parks like Xcaret and Xel-Ha, as well as Cozumel's Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park)

There are plenty of reef-safe sunscreens out there. They are mineral-based products void of oxybenzone and octinoxate. Brands include Thinksport , Alba Botanica , Black Girl Sunscreen and Sun Bum .

Too much (and certain types of) alcohol

If you have a favorite vino or Champagne you've saved for a special occasion and want to bring it along, you certainly can on most cruise lines. However, you'll find limits on how much and what kinds of alcohol you can take onto your cruise ship.

For example, Royal Caribbean permits one (750-milliliter) bottle of wine or Champagne per adult. Carnival allows one bottle of wine per adult. Disney Cruise Line OKs either two (750-milliliter) bottles of wine or six beers per stateroom.

If you bring more than the allotted amount indicated by your cruise line, it will be stored during your cruise. Depending on the cruise line, it will either be returned to your stateroom on your day of disembarkation, or you must pick it up at a designated area.

Note that your alcohol must be in your carry-on bag and not your checked luggage. They'll remove any alcohol in your checked luggage, and you won't get it back. You'll also not be compensated for it.

Bottles must be unopened and sealed. Some lines charge a corkage fee, which is usually $10 to $25 per bottle.

Keep your bottle of Woodford Reserve Kentucky bourbon at home, though. Most cruise lines don't allow guests to bring hard liquor aboard. The alcohol will be seized, and you won't get it back.

You might think you're clever by trying to disguise your liquor by dumping it into an empty bottle of mouthwash. We don't recommend it. If your contraband is discovered by security, it will likely be confiscated and discarded. Some cruise lines like Royal Caribbean could even refuse to let you board.

If imbibing adult beverages during your cruise vacation is that important to you, just spring for the drinks package .

When planning a cruise, curb the temptation to overpack. Some items you frequently travel with aren't allowed in a cruise ship cabin.

Before you write out your packing list, check with your cruise line to confirm what is and isn't allowed on board.

For international travel, what do I need to know about Visas?

Please contact the Embassy (Consular Services) of each country on your sailing itinerary or the visa service of your choice for specific visa requirements, information, forms and fees for your nationality. It is the sole responsibility of the guest to identify and obtain all required travel documents for all ports. We strongly recommend that guests travel with a Passport. All Passports must be valid.

Visa Waiver Program

This is a pre-travel authorization program for U.S. bound travelers from Visa Waiver Countries. This is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is mandatory, and all travelers, regardless of age, from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries will be required to complete an online application similar to the I-94W and obtain an ESTA approval prior to boarding a carrier by air or sea to the United States under the VWP. For complete details, please refer to the U.S Department of State website.

Guests who apply electronically will be required to present their ESTA authorization approval receipt in order to board the vessel on applicable voyages.

For countries currently listed on the U.S. Government website that are participating in the Visa Waiver Program, please visit the U.S Department of State website.

Travelers from the VWP countries seeking to enter the United States will also be required to have in their possession a machine-readable passport.

What do I need to know about health and inoculations when traveling?

Inoculation/Health

All guests must ensure that they are medically and physically fit for travel. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) provide guidelines as to which vaccinations are required in each country. In many cases inoculations are recommended but in some circumstances they are required. We recommend that you check with your health care professional or a Travel Medicine Specialist certified by the WHO for guidance. Other informational resources can be accessed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Traveler's Health website or toll free at 1-800-232-4336, and the World Health Organization website

Family Legal Documents

Should the last names of the parent and minor child traveling with them differ, the parent is required to present the child's valid passport and visa (if required) and the child's government-issued birth certificate (original, a notarized copy, or a certified copy). The name of the parent(s) and the child must be linked through legal documentation.

What do I need to do if I’m traveling with a minor and I am not their parent or legal guardian?

Adults who are not the parent or legal guardian of any minor child traveling with them are required to present the child's valid passport and visa (if required) or the child's government-issued birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy) and an original notarized letter signed by at least one of the child's parents. The notarized letter from the child's parent must authorize the traveling adult to take the child on the specific cruise and must authorize the traveling adult to supervise the child and permit any medical treatment that must be administered to the child. Save the Waves Program and Trash/Waste Disposal

Celebrity Cruises® maintains a Save the Waves Program that focuses on three key principles: Reducing the creation or generation of waste materials; recycling as much as possible; and ensuring proper disposal of remaining waste. Trash should be properly disposed of in containers provided throughout the ship or in wastebaskets provided in each stateroom. Trash or other foreign objects should never be flushed down a toilet and guests are not permitted to discard any item overboard.

What happens if a guest doesn’t follow Celebrity’s Guest Conduct Policy?

Failure to act in accordance with this policy may result in:

Intervention by security, other management personnel, or law enforcement
Removal of certain onboard privileges, which may include being detained, quarantined or confined in a cabin or hold cell
Confiscation of illegal/contraband/prohibited items (may be turned over to law enforcement authorities)
Denial of boarding on the current or any future Celebrity Cruises®
Reporting of incidents to government and law enforcement Authorities for follow-on legal action
Removal from ship at the next port of call. Guests removed from a Celebrity ship pursuant to this policy, are responsible for their own accommodations and transportation home, at their expense. Documentation requirements for re-entry into the guest's home country are also the responsibility of the guest.

How does Celebrity CruiseCare work?

Provides insurance benefits that may reimburse you for your non-refundable, prepaid unused portion cruise vacation in the event that you or your traveling companion need to cancel your cruise vacation (for specified covered reasons*). In addition, should you or your traveling companion need to cancel your cruise for "any other reason", you may be eligible for Cruise Credits. Guests must cancel their cruise prior to departure and must request a refund through the program administrator to be eligible for cash reimbursement or future cruise credits, as applicable. What Not to Pack?

Weapons, illegal drugs, and other items that could interfere with the safe operation of the ship or the safe and secure environment of our guests and crew are prohibited. The United States Transportation Security Administration also recommends that you do not pack fragile or expensive items (such as jewelry) in checked luggage.

Additionally, all drug paraphernalia used for marijuana, cannabis and hemp is prohibited. Medically prescribed marijuana, as well as items derived from or enriched by marijuana, including items and products that contain THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and or CBD (Cannabidiol) are also prohibited.

Guests found in possession of any prohibited items on their person or in their baggage may be denied boarding and are subject to severe legal penalties.

Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or sparkling wine (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage.

Guests wishing to consume wine or sparkling wine that they brought on board to one of the dining rooms will be charged a corking fee of $26.00 USD per bottle.

Please note:

Alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and no compensation will be offered. Please be aware that Guests with beverage containers in checked luggage have experienced damage to their belongings.
All alcohol brought on board must be in the original unopened container. Partially used bottles and those in which the seal is broken are prohibited
Any wine or sparkling wine in excess of 2 bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers is prohibited and must be discarded prior to entry and will be offered no compensation

The drinking age on board is 21, and a valid photo ID is required.

In addition, for round-trip cruises from Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Brisbane, Guests 18 years of age and older may purchase and consume alcoholic beverages without parental consent. Few things can put a damper on pre-cruise excitement like having your bag flagged by security.

Much like airplanes, there are a number of items you cannot bring on a cruise ship. Some may seem obvious – such as illegal drugs or firearms – but others may surprise first-time passengers .

Cruise lines’ lists of prohibited items often include “everyday things that people wouldn’t think twice about,” Scott Campbell, Manager, Cruise Relations at AAA, told USA TODAY. Packing without knowing the rules could cause travel headaches, including having your items confiscated.

Here’s what not to bring with you, though exact rules may vary by cruise line:

What items are banned on cruises?

The “biggest things” to keep in mind are electrical appliances, Campbell said. Of course, that doesn’t mean everything with a plug or battery pack is barred from a ship, but items with heating elements like coffee makers or clothes irons are generally no-gos.

Leave your candles at home too.

While cabins may have a limited number of outlets , Campbell noted passengers cannot bring power strips with surge protectors. “You have to get ones that are cruise ship compliant.”

Weapons like firearms are banned, and even items that look like them, such as gun-shaped novelty lighters, are often prohibited. Guests should also avoid packing sharp objects like knives and scissors, with some exceptions. Personal grooming items such as safety razors are permitted.

Other items that typically won’t be allowed on board include CBD products, fireworks and hoverboards.

Can I bring food on a cruise?

Passengers can generally bring nonperishable prepackaged food with them when they board. On a shore excursion, Campbell might bring a snack such as a bag of M&M’s “so I’m not getting crazy (hungry) on a long tour.”

However, other foods, like homemade snacks, will have to stay behind.

Can I bring alcohol on a cruise?

Beer and hard liquor are not allowed on board, but Campbell said guests can bring wine or champagne to drink during their sailing.

Royal Caribbean International, for instance, allows each passenger of legal drinking age to embark with one sealed 750-milliliter bottle per cruise.

“Boxed wine and other containers are prohibited,” the line’s website reads. “Guests who purchase alcohol bottles on board, in a port-of-call, or bring more than the one permitted bottle on boarding day, will have their items safely stored by the ship. These bottles will be returned on the last day on board for enjoyment once home.”

Cruise sea days: How to make the most of them

Campbell warned that cruise guests may be charged a corkage fee if they want to drink their own wine or champagne at a restaurant on board rather than in their cabin. Carnival Cruise Line, for example, charges $15 per 750-milliliter bottle "should guests wish to consume their wine or champagne in the main dining room, specialty restaurant or bar," according to its website .

Passengers may also be able to board with nonalcoholic beverages such as soda, but policies vary by line.

What happens if I have a prohibited item in my bag?

If you don’t realize an item is forbidden or forget it’s in your bag, there’s no need to stress. In most cases, the items will be confiscated and returned to passengers after their cruise, Campbell said.

He recommended doing some research ahead of time to avoid any hiccups. Cruise lines generally post lists of prohibited items on their websites, or you can ask your travel adviser.

Carnival Cruise Line Prohibited Items, Exemptions and Other Considerations

Any illegal narcotics/drugs including synthetic, designer drugs, marijuana, cannabis and cannabis derivatives such as Cannabidiol (CBD) items which may be labeled as medical marijuana. While certain CBD products used for medicinal purposes may be legal in the U.S. based on state and local laws, they are not legal under U.S. federal law and in all the ports we visit and therefore are also considered prohibited items.
All weapons and any item made, adapted or intended for use as an offensive weapon: firearms (including replicas, imitations and their components), spears or spear guns, crossbows, crossbow bolts and long bow arrows; blunt weapons, including knuckle dusters, brass knuckles, clubs, coshes, batons, flails or Nunchaku; sharp pointed weapons, including throwing stars; air, BB, pellet pistols or rifles, stun devices and tasers, any projectile-weapon, including paintball guns, etc.
All items containing incapacitating substances, such as gas guns, tear gas sprays, mace, phosphorus, acid and other dangerous chemicals that could be used to maim or disable
All ammunition
All explosives, including imitation explosives and devices
Fireworks, flares, pyrotechnics
Flammable substances and hazardous chemicals (e.g., petrol, methylated spirits, paint thinners)
Compressed gas tanks, bottles, cylinders including dive tanks, propane tanks and aerosol cans (Refer to Exemptions)
Alcohol (hard liquor) and beer
Wine or champagne beyond the allowable limit of one 750 ml bottle per adult (21 years of age or older). Port, Vermouth, Sherry and other fortified wines, over 15% alcohol by volume (ABV), cannot be brought on board even in the allowable limit.
Non-alcoholic beverages in containers other than a can or carton; excessive quantities per person (over 12 cans/cartons per person); excessive size per can/carton (over 12 ounces each)
Electrical and household appliances containing any kind of heating element, such as irons, clothes steamers, immersion heaters, heating blankets, water heaters, coffee machines, hot plates, toasters, heating pads, humidifier, etc. (All Carnival ships offer valet laundry service for a nominal fee, and most ships (excluding Carnival Firenze, Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Venezia) also provide facilities with ironing boards and irons.
Knives, scissors and open razors. (Recreational dive knives are allowed, but must be held in the custody of the Guest Services Manager or Chief Security Officer and must be checked out/in by the owner for dive excursions during the cruise. Large scissors used by scrapbook and quilting enthusiasts are at times permitted with prior notification from the Security Services Department, but are held on board in the same manner as dive knives.)
Handcuffs or other restraining devices
Self-balancing hover boards and air wheels
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), communication scanners, wideband receivers, satellite phones, transformers, lasers and laser pointers.
Satellite disk, routers and other internet related equipment
Curtains, drapes or hanging room dividers
Boom boxes/large radios
Candles and incense
Helium filled balloons
Inflatable kiddie pool
Hookahs
Any footwear with wheels, such as, Heely’s type shoes
Kava
Surfboards, boats and canoes
Fish of any kind; if fish are caught during an excursion, they must be shipped home
Aerosol cans containing personal grooming products are allowed
Personal grooming devices such as hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons, shavers, and other electrical devices, such as fans (no larger than 12" in diameter), power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors, and extension cords (without surge protectors) are allowed when used with proper caution. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned on debarkation morning
Guest must use earphones when listening to music or watching shows/movies on personal devices in public spaces. Bluetooth, portable and wireless speakers are only permitted within your stateroom and must be used respectfully and at reasonable sound levels and times of day. Carnival reserves the right to amend this policy for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests. Please check your pre-cruise notifications for your specific cruise. Large speakers/radios are always prohibited on board and will be confiscated.
Medical gas bottles/oxygen cylinders are allowed in connection with a certified medical condition, but cannot be packed in baggage. Oxygen cylinders must be delivered to Guest Services and stored in a designated safe area
CPAP machine will need to be packed in carry-on luggage. Carnival carries distilled water, which can be purchased either pre-cruise (Carnival’s Fun Shops at 1-800-522-7648) or on board by contacting Room Service. Guests bringing their own distilled water, must hand carry along with their CPAP machine
Small, personal-sized coolers no larger than 12” x 12” x 12” for the purpose of housing, small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications are permitted as carry-on luggage
Pets/live animals: Only qualified service dogs trained to perform a specific task for a guest with a disability are allowed
Flowers and plants: Only permitted if ordered through Carnival. Flowers/plants cannot be taken off the ship at any port
Musical instruments: Are allowed, however, if a noise complaint is received, the instrument will be confiscated and returned to the guest on debarkation morning
Ham radios/amateur radio equipment
Google-type glasses are permitted on board in public areas, but cannot be worn at any gangway operation
Digital Cameras/Camcorders, DVDs/VCRs, USB sticks, iPods, Nintendo/X-Box Play Units cannot be used with the TV in the guest stateroom or suite as the connection ports are disabled
Due to concerns for food safety and contamination prevention, any food items brought on board must be pre-packaged and unopened. Homemade items or pre-cooked foods are not allowed. We are unable to provide food preparation, refrigeration or storage for personal food or beverage items
Seashells may be brought on board if they appear to be clean and sanitized and do not have the odor of a living organism
Drone(s) are allowed, but must be held in the custody of the Chief Security Officer and must be checked out/in by the owner for PORT USE ONLY.

Collapsible wagons - For the safety of our guests, the wagon cannot be rolled onto/off the ship during embarkation and debarkation and cannot be rolled off/onto the ship while in port

What Not to Bring on a Cruise: Surprising Prohibited Items

Packing for a cruise? It's important to know what not to bring—and some common items banned by cruise lines may surprise you.

Going on a cruise sometimes feels like entering a parallel universe—after all, where else is it considered socially acceptable to have soft-serve ice cream and a beer for breakfast?

The unique social mores of cruising extend to packing. Or, more precisely, to not packing the items prohibited aboard cruise ships.

Some of the things you’re not allowed to bring on a cruise might strike you as obvious: firearms, explosives, swords, crack.

But other banned items are more surprising and, in some cases, include stuff that’s permitted in other travel-related spaces such as hotels and airplanes.

To avoid having your belongings confiscated by security personnel (or worse outcomes) when you board the ship, it’s wise to take a look at the cruise line’s list of prohibited items before you start packing for the trip. That info can be found on the company’s website; we’ve provided links below to the pertinent web pages for several major lines.

Be sure to check what’s not allowed for the specific cruise company you’re sailing with—policies vary here and there.

We have identified some common restrictions shared by all the players in the industry, however. With few exceptions, you can’t bring the following items aboard, across the board.

Items with a heating element or open flame

A fire breaking out on the ship could of course have dire consequences, especially if the vessel is far from rescue services. So cruise lines are cautious about appliances and devices that get hot enough to pose a fire hazard.

That means no heating blankets , coffee makers , hot plates , clothes steamers , candles , incense , or, perhaps saddest of all for fastidious dressers, clothes irons .

Some ships, such as those operated by Disney Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Line , have self-service launderettes equipped with irons and ironing boards you can use free of charge. If you're on a ship without such facilities, you'll have to pay extra to get your clothes pressed.

While we're on the subject of electrical appliances, check in advance whether you can bring extension cords , power strips , or surge protectors on your cruise. Royal Caribbean bans all three; Holland America Line allows extension cords and power strips only if you use a surge protector.

For whatever reason, several lines make exceptions to their bans on heating appliances when it comes to personal grooming devices such as curling irons and hair dryers. Electric shavers are also allowed.

Here's where you'll want to read your cruise line's policy carefully, though, because there are minor variations from company to company. Princess Cruises, for instance, expressly forbids flat irons , while Norwegian Cruise Line says flat irons are allowed on board "when used with proper caution."

Curiously, cruise lines do generally allow matches and cigarette lighters on ships, presumably for use in the vessels' areas set aside for smoking.

So to review: Items that could cause an accidental fire are forbidden, but items designed to start fires on purpose are fine. Makes sense.

Speaking of lighters, Royal Caribbean clarifies that torch lighters and "novelty lighters that look like guns" are not allowed.

Which brings us to our next category.

Dangerous toys

Weapons and their various accoutrements, including guns, pepper spray, ammunition, and martial arts gear, are verboten. Ditto for long knives, though shorter blades are another case-by-case situation, with some lines allowing lengths up to 2.5 inches (Holland America) or 4 inches (Norwegian), and others banning knives of any length, including straight razors (Disney).

On nearly all ships, even toys that look like weapons are banned, whether or not they shoot out water, air pellets, paintballs, or any other projectile (though you should definitely not pack any of those, either).

As you might expect, Disney Cruise Line makes the most exceptions to the no-toy-weapons rule, allowing store-bought lightsabers, plastic pirate swords, and plastic replicas of Thor's hammer. Never let it be said that the Walt Disney Company prevented anyone from buying its officially branded merch.

Sporting equipment has also been deemed dangerous on cruise ships, so keep your baseball bats, hockey sticks, and skateboards at home.

Heavy-duty scuba diving equipment such as dive knives and breathing tanks are also tightly restricted. Because of their flammability, compressed gas tanks are almost universally a no go, so that bars scuba tanks (on the other hand, medically necessary oxygen cylinders are allowed, with clearance from the ship's health services; small aerosol toiletries such as hair spray are okay, too).

Recreational dive knives fall afoul of ships' prohibition on sharp objects, but some lines, such as Princess, allow passengers to pack their own dive knives for shore excursions, provided those guests check in the knives with the ship's security personnel upon embarkation and only retrieve the equipment for excursions. Additionally, divers may need to show proof of a valid diving license in order to bring a dive knife onto the ship.

Different safety and environmental issues related to getting around a ship's decks and avoiding sending stuff overboard likely inspired the industrywide embargoes on passengers using hoverboards , those shoes with built-in wheels on the soles, remote-controlled aerial devices or drones, kites , small boats, and catapults (just how big are the suitcases you people travel with?).

Note that in some cases, you might be able to bring along certain of the above items for port use as long as you don't take them out while on the ship. According to Carnival , for example, drones are allowed on board "but must be held in the custody of the Chief Security Officer and must be checked out/in by the owner for PORT USE ONLY."

But other lines, such as Norwegian and Virgin Voyages, won't let guests have drones with them, period.

Food and drink

You can board with unopened packaged snacks, but not homemade or perishable food . This can be easy to forget at ports of call, where you might stop at a restaurant and want to save your leftovers for later when you're back on the ship. Sorry, not gonna happen.

And because cruise lines make a whole lot of money from the booze sold on board, they're loath to let you bring outside alcohol on the ship, too. Beer, hard liquor, and spirits are prohibited outright. If found in your luggage, they will either be seized and returned at the end of the journey (as with Virgin) or taken for keepsies (as with Royal Caribbean and most other lines).

If you purchase a souvenir spirit at a port, hand the bottle over when you re-embark and retrieve your purchase from storage at the end of the cruise.

Most lines do allow passengers to bring on a bottle (Carnival) or two (Disney) of wine. Just make sure the stuff is unopened and in your carry-on rather than checked luggage when you board the ship.

There are usually limits to how many nonalcoholic beverages you can carry on board as well. The standard cap seems to be 12 cans or cartons, each containing no more than 12 ounces.

Marijuana and CBD products

As Frommer's has previously reported , U.S. cruise lines unambiguously adhere to U.S. federal regulations with regard to marijuana, banning the possession and use of pot with no exceptions .

Even though, as Carnival's policy puts it , "some state and local governments in the U.S., and in the destinations we visit, might allow marijuana use," cruise lines follow the federal prohibition that's still on the books. It doesn't matter if recreational marijuana is legal in the state or municipality where you embark, disembark, or stop for a port visit—cannabis is not allowed on the ship.

And yes, the ban covers medical marijuana and all CBD oils and other CBD products.

Violators could be denied boarding or suffer hefty fines and other legal penalties.

Luggage and Baggage Rules for Taking a Cruise (How Much Can I Bring?)

If you’re a first-time cruiser, you might have a number of questions about what you can — and can’t — bring for a cruise. The good news? The rules surrounding cruise luggage are far simpler and more straightforward than what you’ll find on a flight .

In fact, you can think of the rules surrounding your luggage as more similar to traveling to a hotel versus traveling on a flight.

Still, if you’re taking a cruise, chances are you’re going to pack a little more than a toothbrush. So you no doubt have a few questions about luggage and baggage on the ship.

We’ve rounded up answers to some of the most common questions…

How much luggage can I bring on a cruise?

The best news about packing is that there is no (reasonable) limit on how much you can bring on a cruise . Most cruise lines “encourage” or “suggest” each passenger to limit luggage to two suitcases, each one less than 50 pounds. In addition, you can also bring carry-on luggage (more on that in a moment). We’ve never seen or heard of people being turned away for bring too many suitcases.

While there are no strict restrictions on your checked baggage, you should keep a few common sense items in mind.

First, know that you have to get all your luggage to and from the cruise ship. If you are flying, that may mean extra fees for extra bags. And even if you are driving to the cruise terminal, you still have to carry (or arrange for someone else to carry) all that luggage.

We encourage people to pack reasonably. There is no harm in wearing the same thing twice during a cruise — many others will be doing just that. As well, every ship has laundry service if you need it.

If you are taking more than one piece of luggage and one carry-on to take a week-long cruise, then you are likely overpacking.

Are there baggage fees on cruises?

Unlike airlines, there are no baggage fees for the luggage you bring on a cruise. Bring what you want, as there is no extra charge.

That’s good news, but if you are flying to the port, remember that you could be charged by the airline for bags you bring on the plane. That’s another reason it’s smart to pack light if you can.

Are there restrictions on what I can bring?

Of course there are rules about what you can’t bring. You can’t bring weapons such as guns or long knives on board. If it’s even questionable (such as pepper spray), it’s best to just leave it at home. Scissors are also restricted.

More importantly, except for lighters, you can’t bring anything dealing with fire. Fire is the biggest risk on board a ship. For that reason, irons are restricted, as are candles and incense. Flammable liquids are also prohibited. If you think it could start a fire, it’s best to leave it at home.

Cruise lines also have restrictions on alcohol that you can bring on board. Most will let you bring some sort of wine or champagne, but only in small quantities. Beer or hard liquor are almost never allowed. Click here to read more about bringing alcohol on a cruise .

Here is a general list of things you can’t bring on the cruise that you might be wondering about:

What happens if I bring something that I’m not supposed to?

Accidentally pack something that’s against the rules? Expect it to be removed from your bag when found — that includes alcohol, weapons, or other items.

Depending on the cruise line policy and what the item is, it may be held and returned to you at the end of the cruise or it may just be confiscated. For that reason, we suggest being very careful about what you pack to avoid running afoul of the luggage rules.

If it’s an illegal substance that’s found, you may be getting a visit from law enforcement.

Can I bring a curling iron, hair straightener or a hair dryer?

In the humidity of a cruise, some people have hair that goes wild. We understand.

The good news is that while clothes irons aren’t allowed, you can bring things like a straightener, hair dryer or curling iron. You should definitely be careful, and not forget to unplug them when not in use (in fact, room stewards may do so if they see it left unattended when servicing your room).

As for hair dryers, you can bring one from home, but cruise cabins have these built in, similar to a hotel. They are small, but can get the job done for a few days of vacation. There is no real reason to take up the luggage space, unless you just can’t live without your specific hair dryer.

Can I bring food on a cruise?

If you have special dietary restrictions and want to bring special foods, then it’s best to contact the cruise line to get all the ins and outs of how to bring your food. One nice thing is that cruise lines can meet almost any dietary restriction you might have.

If you’re simply wanting to bring some snacks, then you are welcome to do so . One thing to keep in mind, however, is that a cruise will go to several different countries. That means customs officials worry about things like foreign pests and disease.

For that reason, any food you bring on board needs to be pre-processed, packaged, and unopened . You can’t bring homemade items. You also want to avoid fresh fruit and vegetables.

Does the “3-1-1” liquids rule apply to cruises?

The “3-1-1” rule is ubiquitous in airports. It’s the rule that you can only bring liquids three ounces or less in a one quart plastic bag, with one bag per passenger. The rule is a thorn in the side of many travelers.

For everyone’s sanity, this rule does not apply to cruise ships. Bring shampoo from home or a bottle of hairspray or a full-sized tube of toothpaste. Just keep in mind that if you have to fly to the port, then you’ll still have to meet the guidelines on liquids for air travel.

Can I bring alcohol in my bags when boarding?

If you want to bring beer or liquor on your cruise, then the bad news is that these aren’t allowed to be brought on ships. If they are found, they will be removed and discarded. (You can buy alcohol in ports of call and bring it home, but it’s held for you until the end of the cruise.)

The good news? Most cruise lines do allow you to bring a bottle or two of wine or champagne .

The amount varies among cruise lines, but it’s usually one bottle (750 mL) per adult in a cabin. When you bring this on, just keep it in your carry-on luggage. You don’t want to put it in checked luggage where it can possibly be broken.

Can I bring non-alcoholic drinks on a cruise?

Yes, but only on some cruise lines. Major lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean have more relaxed rules that allow you to bring small quantities (usually 12 or fewer) drinks on board with you. Norwegian does not allow you to bring aboard drinks.

So if you want to have a Coke or juice and don’t want to buy it on the ship, then you can bring it with you as you board.

What about rules for carry-on luggage for my cruise?

When you arrive at the port, you will check your large luggage (unless you want to carry it all on). This luggage will be carted off, X-rayed, put aboard the ship, and then delivered to your room later that day. That entire process will take several hours.

For that reason, passengers are encouraged to bring some sort of carry-on that has anything you might need for the first few hours on the cruise ship — travel documents, passports, medications, allowed alcohol, toothbrush, your swimsuit, and maybe even a change of clothes for dinner.

This carry-on bag will stay with you and be run through an X-ray machine in the terminal, similar to an airport. You will then keep it with you as you board the ship.

Do I have to check bags over a certain size?

No. There is no rule that you have to check luggage. However, keep in mind that you will have to lug your carry-on items around the ship until your room is ready. If you check in early, that could be a couple of hours. Even a small bag can be a nuisance after that long.

There are some “official” restrictions on carry-on sizes, but we’ve found them to be less strict than with an airline and rarely enforced. As long as you can safely and easily move your bag, it should be ok to board with.

Will my bags be searched on a cruise ship?

All baggage brought on board the ship will be X-rayed. When you go through security you will set your carry-on bags on the x-ray machine like you’d find at an airport. Checked luggage is also X-rayed behind the scenes. Usually further inspection isn’t required unless the security staff finds something dangerous or prohibited.

If something is found that’s against the rules you may have to meet with ship security or find a note in the back saying it’s been removed.

When will I get my bags after checking them?

When you check your bags at the cruise terminal, they are taken, X-rayed, and then loaded onto the ship.

From there, the cruise line staff delivers your luggage directly to your stateroom the evening of your first night. Usually this will take a few hours. Often bags are delivered before dinnertime, but not always.

That’s why it’s important that you bring anything you might need for your first night in your carry-on, including what you plan to wear to dinner. While most people will have their bags within a few hours of boarding, it may be until later that you get yours.

Can I bring CBD or marijuana in my luggage?

CBD is now seemingly everywhere, and rules around marijuana have relaxed tremendously (including full legalization in a number of states).

That said, these items are not allowed on cruise ships . Cruise lines follow federal law instead of state laws. As well, the items are prohibited in a number of countries, so the cruise line restricts you from bringing CBD or marijuana to comply with rules in any port you might visit.

It’s not a good idea to try and sneak them on either as we’ve seen stories of local law enforcement in some countries detaining passengers for these items. As well, some lines like Carnival have started to use drug sniffing dogs to find smuggled items.

Where do I put my suitcase in the cabin after I unpack?

There’s no arguing that cruise cabins are small and you might be wondering where to put an empty suitcase so that you aren’t constantly tripping over it. Fortunately cruise cabins do a great job of maximizing space.

There are closets in every cabin that can hold a suitcase or two. You can also store them under the bed so that you don’t have to worry about it taking up valuable space.

Cruise ships are like floating cities, and they offer a variety of activities and services for their guests. However, just like any other form of travel, there are certain restrictions and regulations in place to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on board.

Things that are allowed on a ship

1. personal items:.

The first and most obvious categories of items that are allowed on a cruise ship are personal items. These include clothing, toiletries, and other personal hygiene items. It's important to pack everything you need for your trip, as the shops on board can be expensive and limited in their selection. In addition to personal items, guests are allowed to bring cameras, laptops, and other electronic devices. However, it's important to note that some cruise lines have restrictions on the use of certain electronics, such as drones.

2. Medications:

Guests are also allowed to bring their medications onboard a cruise ship. It's important to bring enough medication for the entire duration of the cruise, as it may be difficult to obtain certain medications while at sea. Additionally, guests should bring a copy of their prescription, as this can help if they need to refill their medication while on board.

3. Alcohol:

Many cruise lines allow guests to bring a limited amount of alcohol on board. Typically, guests are allowed to bring one bottle of wine or champagne per person or a limited amount of beer or spirits. However, it's important to check with the cruise line before packing alcohol, as some lines have different policies on this. Guests are not allowed to consume their alcohol in public areas, and they may be subject to a corkage fee if they wish to consume their wine or champagne in the dining room.

Things that are not allowed on a ship

While guests are not allowed to bring their food onboard a cruise ship, there are plenty of dining options available. Most cruises offer a range of restaurants and dining venues, including buffets, formal dining rooms, and specialty restaurants. Additionally, guests with dietary restrictions or food allergies can request special meals in advance.

Pets are generally not allowed onboard cruise ships, except for service animals. However, it's important to check with the cruise line before bringing a service animal on board, as some lines have specific policies and requirements.

3. Weapons:

Weapons including firearms and knives are strictly prohibited onboard cruise ships. This includes both personal weapons and items such as hunting equipment. Guests found to have weapons will be subject to immediate removal from the ship and may face legal consequences.

Other prohibited items:

Carnival Cruise Line Prohibited Items, Exemptions and Other Considerations

Carnival Cruise Line prohibits weapons, illegal drugs and certain items that could interfere with the safe operation of its ships or compromise the safety and secure environment of its guests and crew. Carnival conducts security scanning of all luggage and reserves the right to confiscate any item, which in Carnival’s sole discretion, is deemed dangerous or can pose a risk to the vessel or its guests. Items will be removed and disposed of and no compensation will be provided.

We suggest all luggage be unlocked before turning it over to the porters in order to avoid any inconvenience or delay in delivering the luggage to your stateroom. For additional information, please refer to the terms and conditions of the Cruise Ticket Contract .

Before you pack, please take the time to review the following.

Prohibited Items

Any illegal narcotics/drugs including synthetic, designer drugs, marijuana, cannabis and cannabis derivatives such as Cannabidiol (CBD) items which may be labeled as medical marijuana. While certain CBD products used for medicinal purposes may be legal in the U.S. based on state and local laws, they are not legal under U.S. federal law and in all the ports we visit and therefore are also considered prohibited items.
All weapons and any item made, adapted or intended for use as an offensive weapon: firearms (including replicas, imitations and their components), spears or spear guns, crossbows, crossbow bolts and long bow arrows; blunt weapons, including knuckle dusters, brass knuckles, clubs, coshes, batons, flails or Nunchaku; sharp pointed weapons, including throwing stars; air, BB, pellet pistols or rifles, stun devices and tasers, any projectile-weapon, including paintball guns, etc.
All items containing incapacitating substances, such as gas guns, tear gas sprays, mace, phosphorus, acid and other dangerous chemicals that could be used to maim or disable
All ammunition
All explosives, including imitation explosives and devices
Fireworks, flares, pyrotechnics
Flammable substances and hazardous chemicals (e.g., petrol, methylated spirits, paint thinners)
Compressed gas tanks, bottles, cylinders including dive tanks, propane tanks and aerosol cans (Refer to Exemptions)
Alcohol (hard liquor) and beer
Wine or champagne beyond the allowable limit of one 750 ml bottle per adult (21 years of age or older). Port, Vermouth, Sherry and other fortified wines, over 15% alcohol by volume (ABV), cannot be brought on board even in the allowable limit.
Non-alcoholic beverages in containers other than a can or carton; excessive quantities per person (over 12 cans/cartons per person); excessive size per can/carton (over 12 ounces each)
Electrical and household appliances containing any kind of heating element, such as irons, clothes steamers, immersion heaters, heating blankets, water heaters, coffee machines, hot plates, toasters, heating pads, humidifier, etc. (All Carnival ships offer valet laundry service for a nominal fee, and most ships (excluding Carnival Firenze, Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Venezia) also provide facilities with ironing boards and irons.)
Knives, scissors and open razors. (Recreational dive knives are allowed but must be held in the custody of the Guest Services Manager or Chief Security Officer and must be checked out/in by the owner for dive excursions during the cruise. Large scissors used by scrapbook and quilting enthusiasts are at times permitted with prior notification from the Security Services Department but are held on board in the same manner as dive knives.)
Handcuffs or other restraining devices
Self-balancing hover boards and air wheels
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), communication scanners, wideband receivers, satellite phones, transformers, lasers and laser pointers.
Satellite disk, routers and other internet related equipment
Curtains, drapes or hanging room dividers
Boom boxes/large radios
Candles and incense
Helium filled balloons
Inflatable kiddie pool
Any footwear with wheels, such as, Heely’s type shoes
Kava
Surfboards, boats and canoes
Fish of any kind; if fish are caught during an excursion, they must be shipped home

Exemptions and other considerations

Aerosol cans containing personal grooming products are allowed
Personal grooming devices such as hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons, shavers, and other electrical devices, such as fans (no larger than 12" in diameter), power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors, and extension cords (without surge protectors) are allowed when used with proper caution. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned on debarkation morning
Guest must use earphones when listening to music or watching shows/movies on personal devices in public spaces. Bluetooth, portable and wireless speakers are only permitted within your stateroom and must be used respectfully and at reasonable sound levels and times of day. Carnival reserves the right to amend this policy for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests. Please check your pre-cruise notifications for your specific cruise. Large speakers/radios are always prohibited on board and will be confiscated.
Medical gas bottles/oxygen cylinders are allowed in connection with a certified medical condition,but cannot be packed in baggage. Oxygen cylinders must be delivered to Guest Services and stored in a designated safe area
CPAP machine will need to be packed in carry-on luggage. Carnival carries distilled water, which can be purchased either pre-cruise (Carnival’s Fun Shops at 1-800-522-7648) or on board by contacting Room Service. Guests bringing their own distilled water, must hand carry along with their CPAP machine
Small, personal-sized coolers no larger than 12” x 12” x 12” for the purpose of housing, small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications are permitted as carry-on luggage
Pets/live animals: Only qualified service dogs trained to perform a specific task for a guest with a disability are allowed
Flowers and plants: Only permitted if ordered through Carnival. Flowers/plants cannot be taken off the ship at any port
Musical instruments: Are allowed, however, if a noise complaint is received, the instrument will be confiscated and returned to the guest on debarkation morning
Ham radios/amateur radio equipment
Google-type glasses are permitted on board in public areas, but cannot be worn at any gangway operation
Digital Cameras/Camcorders, DVDs/VCRs, USB sticks, iPods, Nintendo/X-Box Play Units cannot be used with the TV in the guest stateroom or suite as the connection ports are disabled
Due to concerns for food safety and contamination prevention, any food items brought on board must be pre-packaged and unopened. Homemade items or pre-cooked foods are not allowed. We are unable to provide food preparation, refrigeration or storage for personal food or beverage items
Seashells may be brought on board if they appear to be clean and sanitized and do not have the odor of a living organism

Items for Port Use Only The following items may be brought on board, but can be used off the ship, while in port only. All items must be stored in the guest’s stateroom.

Drone(s) are allowed, but must be held in the custody of the Chief Security Officer and must be checked out/in by the owner for PORT USE ONLY.

Roller blades or skates

Boogie Boards (maximum 42 inches in length)
Portable Folding Bicycles (maximum 20 inch tires)
Floatation devices: For the comfort of all our guests, rafts, tubes and floatation devices other than those used as life preservers (water wings) cannot be used in the swimming pools on board
Collapsible wagons - For the safety of our guests, the wagon cannot be rolled onto/off the ship during embarkation and debarkation and cannot be rolled off/onto the ship while in port

Please Note : It is the responsibility of the guest to check the local laws of each port as Carnival will not be responsible for confiscated items by foreign governments. I tems that cannot be taken off the ship in the United States The following items cannot be taken off the ship in the U.S. during the cruise or on debarkation day. U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) performs agricultural inspections to protect the U.S from potential carriers of animal and plant pests or diseases that could cause serious damage to America's crops, livestock, pets and the environment.

Can I bring bottled water on board?

Carnival’s Liquor and Beverage Policy states that guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages on board that are packaged in bottles.

We know some of our guests are accustomed to bringing on board their own supply of bottled water, so for your convenience, bottled water can be pre-purchased prior to your cruise by visiting www.carnival.com/funshops . Water will be delivered to your stateroom on embarkation day. Bottled water may also be purchased on board by contacting Room Service. Once on board, your purchase is non-refundable; you may take home any unopened bottles.

$14.95 USD (plus an 18% delivery fee) for a 12-pack of bottled water (16.9-ounce bottle/500-ml bottle)

$4.50 USD (plus an 18% delivery fee) for 1 large bottled water (50.72-ounce bottle/1.5-liter bottle)

Carnival carries distilled water which can be purchased either pre-cruise or once on board. For pre-purchase, please contact our Fun Shops department at 800-522-7648, Monday through Friday, 9:00am-10:00pm ET and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am-6:00pm ET. For purchase on board, please contact Room Service. Should you wish to bring your own distilled water with you, it must be hand carried along with your CPAP machine.

U.S. Citizens

Proper travel documentation is required at embarkation and throughout the cruise. Even though a guest has completed registration using Online Check-in, it is still the responsibility of the guest to present the required travel documents at the time of embarkation. Guests should check with their travel agent and/or government authority to determine the travel documents necessary for each port of call. Any guest without proper documents will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of the cruise fare will be issued. Carnival assumes no responsibility for advising guests of proper travel documentation.

Except where it is a mandatory requirement, Carnival highly recommends that all guests travel with a passport book. The passport book must be valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel. This will enhance the debarkation experience as delays may be expected upon return to the United States for those without one. Additionally, this will enable guests to fly from the United States to meet their ship at a foreign port should they miss their scheduled port of embarkation and allow guests who must disembark the ship before their cruise ends, due to an emergency, to fly back to the United States without significant delays and complications.

U.S. Domestic Cruises

For cruises that begin and end in the same U.S port, the following WHTI-compliant documents are acceptable for cruise travel. Please note that if the cruise visits Colombia or Greenland, a passport book (valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel) is required . A passport card with the same validity is also acceptable for cruises to Colombia.

A passport book or passport card (valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel) is required for the following cruises:

Cruises that begin and end in a different U.S. port
Cruises that visit Colombia, provided they depart from and return to a U.S. port

Europe and Transatlantic Cruises

U.S citizens are required to carry a passport book, valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel. Guests are not required to have a Schengen Visa or other visas.

Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Transpacific Cruises

U.S citizens are required to carry a passport book, valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel. Visas and/or specific travel documentation may be required for some destinations.

All persons are required to carry a valid, unexpired U.S. passport for air travel to or from the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory (Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands: St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix).

Effective May 7, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will require every state and territory resident to present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification, such as a passport or enhanced driver’s license, to go through airport security and board a flight within the U.S. If you will be flying to one of our cruise homeports within the U.S. on/after this implementation date, please ensure you have an acceptable document for your air travel. Visit www.tsa.gov/real-id for more information.

Note: All guests must still have WHTI-compliant travel documents (proof of citizenship and/or appropriate visas) in order to cruise.

Names on Travel Documentation

It is important that the guest's full name (first name and last name) on the cruise and airline tickets be the same as the guest's unexpired, government-issued photo ID that will be used for travel identification. In the event of a different name on the cruise/airline ticket and the guest's photo ID because of a marriage, divorce or a legal name change, documentation (original or clear, legible copy) supporting this change is required at embarkation, such as a marriage certificate, marriage license or legal name change court document. Failure to bring documentation bridging the name differences could result in denial of boarding.

Note: For guests about to or recently married, we strongly recommend that, if the unexpired government-issued photo ID is in the maiden name, the cruise booking be made in the maiden name (do not include the married name). If the reservation was made in the married name, but the unexpired government-issued photo ID is in the maiden name, documentation (original or clear, legible copy) supporting this change is required at embarkation, such as a marriage certificate or marriage license. Failure to bring documentation bridging the name differences could result in denial of boarding.

Traveling with Minors

When traveling with a minor where one parent or both parents or legal guardians are not cruising, we strongly recommend bringing an original, signed letter from the absent parent(s) or legal guardians authorizing the minor to travel with you. If there is no second parent with legal claims to the minor (due to sole custody, deceased, etc.) other relevant paperwork, such as a court decision, death certificate, birth certificate naming only one parent, would be useful to bring in place of a signed letter. This will expedite processing by the Department of Homeland Security.

Citizens of U.S. Territories and Commonwealth

Guests will follow the same travel documentation requirements. U.S. Territories and Commonwealth include: Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John), America Samoa, Swains Island and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

U.S. citizens may present a valid, unexpired U.S. passport book when traveling via air, land, or sea. The passport book must be valid for at least six months beyond the completion of travel.

Guests may apply for passports at passport-acceptance facilities nationwide. For information about U.S. Passports, visit www.travel.state.gov .

The U.S. Passport Card

The passport card cannot be used to travel by air outside the United States.

U.S. citizens may present a limited-use, wallet-size passport card. The passport card will only be valid for land and sea travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean region, and Bermuda.

State Enhanced Driver's License (EDL)

The State Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) cannot be used to travel by air outside the United States.

Several states are working with the Department of Homeland Security to develop an EDL for U.S. citizens residing in their states. This document will denote both citizenship and identity and will facilitate the entry process at land and seaports of entry. The words ‘Enhanced Driver's License’ as well as the American flag will appear on the license. The following states issue this type of WHTI-compliant document: Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington.

A driver's license with a gold circle with star cutout in the right upper corner is a Real ID driver's license; it is not an Enhanced Driver's license and cannot be used as proof of citizenship but can be used as picture identification. A Mobile/Digital version of an EDL is not an acceptable form of travel documentation.

Original Certificate of U.S. Naturalization and a Government-Issued Photo ID

The Certificate of U.S. Naturalization (form N-550 or N-570) is a document issued by the U.S. government (USCIS) as proof of a foreign-born person who has obtained U.S. citizenship through naturalization (a legal process of obtaining a new nationality). Photocopies of the original document are unacceptable. A Mobile/Digital version of a photo ID is not an acceptable form of identification.

Native American Indians

These cards cannot be used to travel by air outside the United States.

Traveling with a Birth Certificate AND Photo Identification

The following are acceptable:

An original or copy of a birth certificate issued by a government agency (state/county/city) or the Department of Health and Vital Statistics
A clear, legible copy (photocopy) of a birth certificate that was originally issued by a government agency (state/county/city) or the Department of Health and Vital Statistics. The copy does not need to be notarized or certified.

A Consular Report of Birth Abroad
Internationally adopted children (under the age of 18): If the adoptive parent was not issued a birth certificate, we will accept as proof of citizenship, a Certificate of Citizenship by the U.S. and adoption paperwork. A Certificate of Citizenship is issued by the U.S. once the adoption is finalized.
Guests may obtain a copy of a birth certificate by contacting: The Department of Health and Vital Statistics at: www.vitalchek.com . If the guest has laminated their birth certificate, it is acceptable.

Birth certificates from Puerto Rico issued prior to July 1, 2010, are not valid forms of proof of citizenship and are not accepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Guests from Puerto Rico either need to present a WHTI-compliant document or a government-issued photo ID with a validated birth certificate issued after July 1, 2010.

Photo Identification

An unexpired government-issued photo ID is required of all guests 16 years of age and older. A Mobile/Digital version of a photo ID is not an acceptable form of identification.

How much luggage can I bring?

Guests who are scheduled to arrive at the terminal before 1:30 PM, usually check their bags with a porter so they can be free to enjoy lunch on Lido Deck before access to their stateroom is granted. Checked baggage service is only available until 2 hours before the ship's published sailing time (printed in the cruise documents). Guests arriving after this time will be responsible for taking their bags on board. Each checked suit case and carry-on suit case should not weigh more than 50 pounds, and when lying flat, bags must not exceed 16 inches high by 24 inches wide (the length of the bag is not a factor). For security screening purposes, all luggage should be unlocked. Oversized luggage and locked luggage may cause delivery delays. Personalized luggage tags are included in the guest’s Electronic Documents (available once online check-in is completed). It is not necessary to print the tags in color. Carnival luggage tags must be affixed to your baggage prior to arriving at the terminal. Additional tags can be obtained at curbside from the porter. Porters will re-tag any luggage tag with a TBA cabin assignment. Curbside porters are customarily provided a $1 tip per bag. They are not employees of Carnival and should a guest experiences any problems, they must report it to porter management on site. Since the screening and movement of large coolers through embarkation is an impediment to the boarding and security screening process, large coolers are not permitted as carry-on or checked luggage. Small, personal-sized coolers, no larger than 12 inches x 12 inches x 12 inches, for the purpose of housing small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications are permitted as carry-on luggage. Airline Luggage Restrictions If traveling by air, guests are encouraged to contact the airlines directly to determine luggage restrictions and fees.

What should I pack?

To help you plan, on cruises of 3-5 days, please limit your luggage to a maximum of one bag, per person. On cruises of 6 days or longer, no more than two bags, per person. Each checked bag and carry-on bag should not weigh more than 50 pounds and, when lying flat, bags must not exceed 16 inches high, by 24 inches wide (the length of the bag is not a factor). For security screening purposes, all luggage should be unlocked. Oversized luggage and locked luggage may cause delivery delays.

You must personally carry-on any boarding documentation (passports, visas, I.D), valuables, medications and items which require special handling or that you need access to while your checked luggage is being delivered. And don't forget your personal toiletries (travel size or standard container size).

There are a number of must-pack items that we recommend every cruiser consider when preparing for a Carnival cruise. Before you get started, check out our What to Wear section and research the weather forecast for the ports you’ll be visiting to determine exactly what you will need to bring. In addition, here are some other recommended items:

What Not to Pack

In order to maintain a safe and secure environment, Carnival prohibits certain items on board, such as weapons, candles, irons, alcohol, or other dangerous goods. Carnival conducts security safety scanning of all luggage and if prohibited items are found, they will be removed and disposed of and no compensation will be given. Please review our list of Prohibited Items before shutting your suitcase.

What to wear?

Cruisers love the fact they “only have to unpack once”. And while your destination, itinerary and personal style will dictate which outfits you bring, we want to share our guidelines and suggestions. A Carnival ship has it all, from fine dining to casinos and shows to sunbathing, so here are some tips on how to dress to play or party.

Daytime: Casual and Comfortable

Casual attire is the order of the day when the sun is up, which can include:

Shorts, capris, khakis and jeans
T-shirts, polo shirts, blouses and tops
Summer dresses
Exercise and athletic gear, lightweight sweater, pull-over or jacket
Bathing suit, cover-up, hat or visor
Comfortable rubber-sole flat shoes, sneakers, water shoes or non-slip boat shoes with traction

Please note : Select activities and shore excursions may require closed-toe shoes. Footwear with wheels is prohibited on board our ships.

Evening: Cruise Casual to Cruise Elegant (Sharp & Chic)

As we head into the evening, the dress code takes on multiple definitions, depending on your plans, the venue or the event.

Most nights, the dress code in the main dining room(s) for everyone is Cruise Casual:

Men and boys: sports slacks, khakis, jeans, tailored dress shorts and collared dress, casual or polo shirts
Women and girls: summer dresses, casual skirts, pants, capris, dress shorts, jeans, blouses and tops
Kids: Take a cue from the adult dress code, but at a kid-level
Not permitted: cut-off jeans, men’s sleeveless shirts, t-shirts, gym or basketball shorts, exercise and athletic gear, baseball hats, flip-flops and bathing suit attire
For itineraries 6 days or longer, bring your legwarmers, shoulder pads and neon-colored outfits for the ‘80s Rock-N-Glow Deck Party and a white outfit for our epic White Night Party.

On certain special nights, our main dining rooms celebrate our Cruise Elegant festivities and we invite guests to enjoy a special night out in a sharp and chic way.

5 days or shorter cruises will have one Cruise Elegant evening
6 days or longer cruises will have two Cruise Elegant evenings

On longer cruises, the first Cruise Elegant evening is scheduled for the second or third evening of the cruise. Depending on itinerary, the next Cruise Elegant evening is the second or third evening prior to the end of the cruise.

Cruise Elegant attire can include:

Men and boys: dress slacks, dress shirts, and sport coats (suggested); some men may even choose to wear a suit and tie or tuxedo
Women and girls: dresses (party or cocktail), pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses; some women may also wear evening gowns
Kids: Take a cue from the adult dress code, and think school dance or nice party clothes
Not permitted: jeans, men’s sleeveless shirts, shorts, t-shirts, sportswear, exercise and athletic wear, shorts, baseball hats, flip-flops and bathing suit attire

A good rule of thumb is to dress for a special occasion.

The Steakhouse and Rudi's Seagrill dress requirements follow the dress code specified for the main dining room(s).

The Lido Restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a more relaxed dress code than the main dining room(s); however, please respect that the Lido Restaurant is not the pool area. Shirts, bathing suit cover-ups and footwear should be worn at all times. Please dry off completely as wet floors are a safety hazard.

Casinos, bars, retail shops, lounges and theaters are frequented by guests who dress according to daytime to nighttime standards. Basic rules still apply no matter the time of day – no swimsuits, wet clothes, or bare feet.

Please Note :

All guests are expected to ensure their clothing and accessories are respectful to fellow guests. Specifically, items worn during the cruise should not contain any message that may be considered offensive or contain nudity, profanity, sexual innuendos/suggestions. In addition, clothing and accessories should not promote negative ethnic or racial, commentary, hatred, or violence in any form.
In some ports of call, it is against the law for anyone, including children, to wear army-style camouflage clothing or carry items made with camouflage material. Ports include (but not limited to) The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica and St.Lucia. Before traveling, please check local laws of each port to ensure compliance with regulations.

Carnival Journeys and Holidays

Carnival Journeys cruises feature a Throwback Sea Day in which we go back in time to relive the ‘80s during the day and the true elegance of formal evening and the original Captain’s Celebration at night. Guidelines for elegant evening apply, and formal gowns and suits/tuxedos are encouraged.
Carnival knows how to celebrate! Feel free to bring a special outfit for our “Ugly Sweater Contest” in December, “Frightfully Fun” Halloween cruises, or to show your team spirit when there are big sporting events. Please note that costumes with full masks are prohibited, but half masks are allowed.

Drinking Alcohol On Board

The minimum age for the purchase and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the bars, lounges and gift shops is 21 years of age. Carnival reserves the right to request ID prior to the purchase of alcohol and refuse the sale of alcohol to anyone.

Bringing Liquor and Beverages On Board - Embarkation

Guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages that are packaged in glass or plastic bottles.

On embarkation day, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, energy drinks, juice, and milk), packaged in cans or cartons, may be brought on board and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12-ounces/354-ml each or less, per person.

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board with the following exception - at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring one 750-ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne, per person, in their carry-on luggage.* Outside this exception, all liquor, beer, other forms of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked luggage and such items will be confiscated and discarded and no compensation will be provided. Guests sailing with us on back-to-back cruises are entitled to bring the same quantity as stated in this policy, per cruise. The additional quantities will be stored for safekeeping at the start of the first cruise and will be given to the guest as each following cruise begins.

* Port, Vermouth, Sherry and other fortified wines, over 15% alcohol by volume (ABV), cannot be brought on board.

Corkage Fee

Should guests wish to consume their wine or champagne in the main dining room, specialty restaurant or bar, a $15.00 USD corkage fee, per 750-ml bottle, will be charged. A corkage fee is a charge that is assessed, at time of service, for every bottle that is served and not bought on the premises.

Bottled Water

For convenience, guests can purchase bottled water prior to the cruise and it will be delivered to the stateroom on embarkation day. Bottled water may also be purchased on board by contacting room service. Once on board, the purchase is non-refundable and guests may take home any unopened bottles.

Distilled Water

Carnival carries distilled water which can be purchased either pre-cruise or once on board. For pre-purchase, please contact our Fun Shops department at 800-522-7648, Monday through Friday, 9:00am-10:00pm ET and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am-6:00pm ET. For purchase on board, please contact room service. Should you wish to bring your own distilled water with you, it must be hand carried along with your CPAP machine.

Guests are prohibited from bringing large coolers since screening and movement of large coolers through embarkation is an impediment to the boarding and security process. However, for the purpose of carrying small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications small, personal-sized coolers, no larger than 12” x 12” x 12” are permitted as carry-on luggage.

Purchasing Liquor Pre-Cruise through The Fun Shops

All products sold containing alcohol have a limit of two products per stateroom. On 7 day and longer cruises, there is a limit of one bottle of hard liquor per stateroom and on shorter cruises, pre-cruise purchases are limited to wine, champagne and beer (no hard liquor). A ‘pack’ or ‘package’ is considered one product.

Alcohol purchased pre-cruise through The Fun Shops for on board consumption is designed for in-stateroom entertainment only. Guests cannot take items with them to public areas. Only wine or champagne that is ordered through The Fun Shops can be served in the dining room or Steakhouse. If the item is not consumed on board during the cruise, the guest may take it home provided the bottle has not been opened.

Our CHEERS! Beverage Program must be purchased for each adult (21 years of age or older) assigned to the same stateroom.

Purchasing Liquor at Ports of Call and On Board at The Fun Shops All alcohol purchased ashore or in The Fun Shops will be stored for safekeeping until the end of the voyage. Items are to be collected in a designated lounge on debarkation morning. Liquor may be subject to Customs duty if it exceeds allowable amount.

What is the Cheers! Beverage Program?

CHEERS! is an all-inclusive beverage program that allows guests to enjoy a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages by paying a flat daily rate. Guests must be 21 or older to purchase CHEERS! and each adult assigned to the same stateroom must purchase the program.

Our CHEERS! beverage program includes a great variety of non-alcoholic beverages, as well as a wide selection of high quality brand-name spirits and wines by the glass.

What are my dining options?

Guests may choose from three different dinner seating options. By popular request, all dining rooms are smoke-free.

Assigned Seating - Early Dining and Late Dining This dining option offers guests a pre-set dining time for the duration of the cruise as well as the same table assignment each evening in the Main Dining Room. Guests who choose this option will not be able to reserve 'Your Time' open seating once on board. E arly dining may be scheduled between 5:30pm and 6:00pm and late dining , between 7:45pm and 8:15pm. *

'Your Time Dining' Open Seating 'Your Time Dining ' is offered fleet wide. Guests are seated on a first - come, first - served basis , depending on party size, and in most cases, are accommodated within 20 minutes. Advance table reservations are not accepted . Guests using Carnival's HUB App can check-in for 'Your Time Dining' ahead of time or check-in when they are ready to go. The App will alert the guests when their table is ready and show the table number. All guests must be present in order for the party to be seated. The table will be held for 10 minutes. Your Time Dining is generally offered between 5:00pm and 9:00pm.*

Parties greater than 8 guests may need to be accommodated at several tables and the wait can sometimes be more than one hour. We highly suggest that parties of 8 or more guests choose an assigned seating to ensure sitting together at one table or several tables close together

*Actual times will vary based on ship and itinerary, and will be listed in the daily ‘Fun Times’ and Carnival HUB App.

At time of booking, guests will be able to confirm their preferred dining choice. If their preference is not available, they may confirm an alternate time and be waitlisted for their preferred choice ( there is no guarantee a waitlist will clear ) . When possible, waitlists will be cleared prior to the sailing and guests will be notified by email. T raveling parties who are waitlisted together will be cleared on the same dining time. Cross-referencing bookings does not guarantee parties will be seated together. They must be confirmed on the same dining time to ensure they will be able to dine together. For those guests who choose e arly or l ate dining, the assigned dining room , time and table number , will be printed on the guests' Sail & Sign® card .

Additional Dining Options In addition, guests may opt for casual bistro dining in the Lido Deck Restaurant or a more intimate and elegant atmosphere in the Steakhouse and other specialty dining venues. NOTE: Menu items (excluding Steakhouse Selections) are complimentary in the main dining room. Guests can order a second entrée, keeping in mind they can also request half portions if something looks too enticing to pass up. If a third entrée is ordered, a US$5 charge will be assessed.

Getting to and from Port

Does carnival provide transportation from the airport to the cruise port terminal.

Carnival Cruise Line offers ground transportation between select airports and cruise ship terminals. These services are only available on the day of the cruise and immediately after the cruise. We do not offer airport transportation for cruises sailing from the following embarkation ports: Norfolk, Virginia: Baltimore, Maryland; Jacksonville, Florida; Mobile, Alabama; Charleston, South Carolina; Brisbane, Australia and Sydney, Australia.

Purchasing transportation can be done through Manage My Booking on carnival.com or by contacting Carnival Reservations up to 2 days prior to the sail date. You will need to provide your flight information in Online Check-in at the time of purchase. Your flight details are provided to the transportation company to assist in expediting your transportation to the pier. It is your responsibility to update Carnival with any changes to your flight schedule to ensure you are met by the transportation company.

General Questions

What do i need to do to get on board.

All guests must complete their Online Check-in process no later than midnight (Eastern time) prior to their sailing date. During online check-in, you will be asked to select an arrival appointment. This is the time that everyone in your stateroom should be at the cruise port terminal. Please arrive promptly within your Arrival Appointment to reduce your wait time in line. At check-in, you must present your boarding pass, picture ID and citizenship documents (including any necessary visas). Due to security protocol, last minute bookings made within 24 hours of sailing will require guests to undergo a secondary screening.

What are Service Gratuities?

It is customary for our guests to extend gratuities to the shipboard staff in appreciation for their hard work and exceptional service. 100% of your gratuities are distributed to the crew who you interact with, such as your stateroom attendants, dining and culinary services staff, as well as other members of the onboard team who work behind the scenes to enhance your overall cruise experience. Applying this charge automatically streamlines the recognition process and ensures our crew will share in your generosity.

To help you plan, we have provided the recommended onboard gratuities guidelines.

Standard Staterooms: $16.00 USD per person, per day
Suite Staterooms: $18.00 USD per person, per day

You may pay this daily gratuity in two different ways:

Gratuities can be added at the time of booking or anytime up to the sail date. Guests who booked directly with Carnival may add their pre-paid gratuities on Carnival.com. If a guest booked with a travel agent, they may contact their travel professional to add pre-paid gratuities to their booking. Prepaid gratuities are reflected in the 'Miscellaneous Charge' field on the confirmation and in the guest's E-Documents.

Sail & Sign ®

If guests have not pre-paid their gratuities, the recommended, per person, amount will be posted to their Sail & Sign account on the second to last day of the cruise. Should a guest not be satisfied with the service they receive, they can contact the Guest Services desk while on board. This will allow us to address their concerns in a timely and appropriate fashion. At the discretion of the guest, gratuities may be adjusted after they have been posted on the guest's account, while on board. Gratuities, as posted on a guest's Sail & Sign account, will be considered final after a guest disembarks and no changes will be made after the cruise.

Additional Information

Gratuities are assessed on all guests, with the exception of children under the age of 2.
Gratuities apply regardless of the dining options selected, such as eating at the casual dining restaurant or open seating dining.
For beverage purchases, an 18% service charge will be added to the bill.
An 18% service charge will be added to the cover charge for the Chef’s Table, Bonsai Teppanyaki and Il Viaggio as well as the nominal à la carte fee at Bonsai Sushi, Emeril’s Bistro, Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse and Seafood Shack; additional gratuities can be added at the guest's discretion.

What restrictions are there?

The app is free to download and use on board. For $5.00 USD per user, for the voyage, the HUB App offers chat.

Do I need internet access to use the app? Do I have to pay roaming?

No internet purchase is required. The app works only with the ship’s free Wi-Fi. To access sites and services outside of the HUB App, guests will need to purchase one of the Wi-Fi plans. To avoid carrier imposed roaming charges, turn on airplane mode while on board.

How do I log into the Carnival HUB App? Where can I find my folio?

You may log in before your cruise using your Carnival.com account or your booking details. To log on, once on board, you will need your folio number (found on your Sail & Sign card) and date of birth.

Can minors use chat?

Chat access is limited to ages 13 years and older. For safety reasons, parents and guardians must give consent within the app for guests 12 years and younger to activate onboard chat.

What is Carnival's Tobacco and Marijuana Smoking Policy?

Smoking is a fire and safety hazard on a ship. Consequently, it is strictly limited to specific exterior deck areas. All guests are expected to adhere to the following safety guidelines:

All staterooms and suite accommodations, including outside balconies, are NON-SMOKING. This policy applies to all forms of smoking, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vaporizers, electronic cigarettes and marijuana.
Carnival recognizes that some state and local governments in the U.S., and in the destinations we visit, might allow marijuana use. However, Carnival Cruise Line follows U.S. federal law, which strictly prohibits possession and use of recreational/medicinal marijuana and other illegal controlled substances.
Any violation of this policy will result in a $500 charge, per violation, posted on the guest’s Sail & Sign® account and may also result in the disembarkation of all guests in the stateroom.
Guests who are disembarked for violating our policy will be responsible for all financial charges and expenses to return home, and no refund of their unused cruise fare will be provided. Additionally, they may be prohibited from sailing with Carnival Cruise Line in the future.

Casino rules: There is no smoking in the casino unless seated and playing. It is not allowed at the casino bar or in the entire area when closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if a guest is caught smoking in a stateroom or balcony?

They will be assessed a $500 charge, per violation, on their Sail & Sign® account. Information on this charge is included in Section 8 of Carnival’s Cruise Ticket Contract. The assessment of this charge does not allow a guest to continue smoking in his/her stateroom. If a guest is found to be in violation of our smoking policy, all guests in the stateroom may be disembarked from the vessel and risk not being allowed to sail on Carnival in the future. Guests will be responsible for all financial charges and expenses to return home, and no refund of unused cruise fare will be provided.

What should guests do if they smell tobacco in areas where smoking is not allowed, or marijuana in any area?

Guests who are concerned about other guests violating our smoking policy should contact our onboard Guest Services team, so we can address the situation. This will help avoid uncomfortable situations between guests.

What if a guest has a letter from a doctor saying that they are allowed to use marijuana for medicinal and/or therapeutic purposes? Why is that prohibited?

Illegal narcotics/drugs including synthetic, designer drugs, marijuana, cannabis and cannabis derivatives such as Cannabidiol (CBD) items which may be labeled as medical marijuana are not allowed on board. While certain CBD products used for medicinal purposes may be legal in the U.S. based on state and local laws, they are not legal under U.S. federal law and in all the ports we visit and therefore are also considered prohibited items.

What items are probihited on board holland america line cruises.

Answer: The following list is provided to assist in determining what items are not allowed onboard without a valid, lawful reason.

This is not an all-inclusive list, and there may be other items found at the Security screening area that may be dangerous and that should not be allowed onboard.

All firearms including non-firing weapons. An exception to this rule is law enforcement agents acting in an official capacity and certified armed security guards acting in an official capacity (with full permission of the ship’s Master). All forms of ammunition, explosive materials and propellants, projectiles of all kinds, cartridges.

All imitation or replica weapons including de-commissioned weapons, those not capable of being fired and realistic imitation/toy weapons.

Air/Pellet guns or any other variety of projectile firing weapon.

Stun Guns, Tasers or any other electroshock device.

All explosives and explosive device components including but not limited to military, civilian and safety devices, detonators, detonation cords, blasting caps, smoke cartridges, grenades, mines, imitation explosives/devices.

Fireworks, Flares and Pyrotechnics Knives (with a blade over 6.35 cm (2 ½ inches), or 1.25 cm (½ inch) at widest point). bladed weapons, sharp pointed weapons, daggers, sabers, swords, axes, ice axes, hatchets, straight razors (shaving safety razors are allowed), razor blades not in a cartridge, box cutters, ice picks, meat cleavers, and utility knives, (unless specifically authorized for personnel who in the normal course of their duties on board the ship require to be in possession of a knife with a more substantial blade i.e. Gallery Staff and Deck Ratings).

Flick knives, gravity knives, switchblades or lock knives. Small locking pocket-knife with blade lengths less than 6.35 cm (2 ½ inches) and widths ½ inch or less are allowed.

Concealed bladed weapons such as belt buckles knives, cane and umbrella knives/swords, pen knives and credit card knives.

Recreational Diver’s Knives unless accompanied by other diving/snorkeling equipment and a valid diving ID card/license (must be held in the custody of the Security Officer). Dive knives may be checked out/in by the owner for dive excursions during the cruise whereby 24 hours’ notice is provided.

Diver’s spears and spear guns/slings.

Ceremonial knives/swords as well as entertainment props are at times permitted with prior notification from the Fleet Security Department (must be held on-board in the same manner as dive knives).

Scissors with blades longer than 4 inches.

Telescopic or regular truncheons/batons/clubs/coshes/nightsticks/billy clubs/blow pipes/ASPs and or any other item made, adapted or intended for use as an offensive weapon.

Archery equipment including crossbows and bolts.

Martial Arts Equipment including flails, throwing stars, nunchakus/nunchucks, kubatons, bostaff, etc.

Knuckle dusters, brass knuckles, or any other item constructed for use as a weapon in hand-to-hand combat.

Items containing Incapacitating Substances such as gas guns, tear gas sprays, pepper/mace cartridges, phosphorus, acid and other dangerous chemicals that could be used to maim or disable.

Flammable liquids and hazardous chemicals/substances including gasoline/petrol, cooking fuel, acid, spill able batteries (except those in wheelchairs), phosphorous, oil, lighter fluid (common lighters are permitted), methylated spirits, paint thinners, acid, turpentine, spray paint, chlorine, bleach, spray paint and any other dangerous chemicals that could burn, maim, incapacitate or disable.

Compressed gas bottles/cylinders including propane tanks and aerosol cans (except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities). Dive Tanks are not permitted, empty or full. Medical gas bottles are allowed in connection with a certified medical condition but cannot be packed in baggage. Oxygen cylinders must be delivered to the Purser’s Office and stored in a designated safe area.

Oxygen cylinders are not x-rayed.

Drones also referred to as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicle (RPA), and any other remote-controlled aerial devices/toys. (The exception is when permitted for company sponsored events when approved in advance by Fleet Security).

Any other item made, adapted or intended for use as a weapon.

Hookah and Water Hookah Pipes, candles and incense, strike-anywhere matches. Items brought on board the vessel and not supplied by the Company containing any kind of heating element, such as but not limited to: immersion heaters, heating blankets, flat irons, water heaters, coffee machines with heating / hot plates, etc.

Alcohol in violation of the company alcohol policy.

All illegal drugs, , including medications without proper prescriptions. • This includes legal intoxicant synthetic or “designer” drugs also known as “Legal Highs” such as Lysergamides, Opioids, Methoxetamine, Synthetic Cannabis, Betel Nuts or Kava (Cava).

Coolers, only coolers approximately 12 x 12 x 12 in size (holds 6-12 cans of non-alcoholic beverages) are allowed. Guests carrying larger sizes will be directed to return them to their vehicle. If the guest is without a vehicle, the cooler will be destroyed in the same manner as other prohibited items.

Exception: if the cooler is larger and contains baby food/formula, kosher food/special dietary food or medication - these must be hand-carried. Coolers cannot be accepted as checked baggage. Whenever there is doubt an embarkation supervisor or shipboard personnel can be contacted to make the decision. Scooters (only permitted if used for mobility), Segway’s (only permitted ashore if used for mobility limitations – cannot be used onboard the ship), Heely Shoes, Hoverboards/self-balancing scooters.

Visas may be obtained directly from the consulate of the countries visited. Some visas are available to be obtained on board. Passport holders of the United States, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom may obtain visas through CIBTvisas . IMPORTANT: Visa and documentation requirements vary by destination and change from time to time without prior notice. Guests should check with the consulate of each country they will visit or a visa service to verify current regulations. It is the guest's responsibility to have proper travel documentation. Nothing gets in the way of a good trip like paperwork issues. So we want to make sure you know you’re responsible for meeting all the documentation and proof-of-citizenship requirements for your travel. Check out the guidelines below, as the last thing we want is for you to be denied boarding.

In many cases, you’ll need a valid passport, but even if you don’t, we really recommend traveling with one. You never know when the unexpected might happen – like leaving your ship before the end of your cruise – and it’s always better to be prepared.

General guidelines

Make sure the name on your booking matches the name on your travel document exactly. If the names do not match, contact your Travel Advisor (for bookings through a travel agency) or the Princess Cruises Reservations Department (for direct bookings) at 1-800-PRINCESS (1-800-774-6237). To avoid check-in delays or even denied boarding, please provide Princess Cruises with this information at least 45 days before your cruise.

For non-U.S. passport holders or non-U.S. permanent residents disembarking in a U.S. Port, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires that before your cruise, you provide the address at which you will be staying in the U.S., post-cruise.

Travel document requirements vary by destination and citizenship. Below are document guidelines for both domestic and international voyages. Once a booking is made, you may view voyage-specific requirements on the Cruise Personalizer.

Document Requirements for U.S. and Canadian Citizens/Nationals

International itineraries

A valid passport book is required for all international itineraries including:

Australia & New Zealand
Central and South America
Panama Canal (partial and full transit)
Caribbean (any sailings that visit Martinique or Guadeloupe)
South Pacific & Tahiti
World Cruises

If your cruise involves international air travel (including flights between the U.S. and Canada, the Caribbean, Bermuda or Mexico) you will be required to present a valid passport when departing from or returning to the U.S. by air.

Domestic itineraries

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) governs acceptable travel documents for entry into the U.S. by sea from Bermuda, Canada, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico or within the United States. We highly recommend a passport. We also require a passport for all guests in a travel party when minors are traveling with only one adult (21 years and older). † However, for U.S. and Canadian citizens/nationals on select itineraries a passport is not always required. In lieu of a passport book, these individuals must present one of the following valid WHTI-compliant travel documents at cruise check-in:

U.S. Passport Card
U.S. or Canadian Issued Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) (A REAL ID is not the same and doesn’t fulfill this requirement.)
U.S. or Canadian Issued Identification Card (issued to minors and non-drivers)
NEXUS Card Air travel is limited to participating airports (for entry to Canada)
SENTRI (for entry to Mexico) and FAST cards
I-872 American Indian Card or Enhanced Tribal ID Card (ETC)

†We have implemented this requirement because we want to ensure that your party remains together should an emergency arise that requires one or more members to be disembarked in a non-U.S. port. We cannot guarantee that all members of your party will be allowed to disembark with just a WHTI-compliant document or birth certificate. Failure to present a valid passport for all guests traveling together will result in denial of boarding without refund of the cruise or cruisetour fare.

On select U.S. roundtrip (sometimes called “closed-loop”) voyages, U.S. citizens ages 16 and above may also travel with an original or certified copy U.S. birth certificate (or U.S. Certificate of Naturalization if foreign born) presented together with a valid U.S. government-issued photo identification . U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 15 and younger may travel with a birth certificate.

Alaska roundtrip from San Francisco, Los Angeles or Seattle (roundtrip Seattle cruisetours excluded)
Canada/New England roundtrip from New York
Caribbean roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale^, Galveston^ or New York (voyages that do not call to Martinque or Guadeloupe only)

^Voyages that call to Central or South America are excluded and only passports are accepted. All voyages that call to Martinique or Guadeloupe require a passport.

U.S. Permanent Residents are required to present one of the following at cruise check-in:

Permanent Resident Card (ARC/I-55 card)
Temporary ARC/I-55 card and valid government-issued photo identification
Expired ARC/I-55 card and form I-797 and valid government-issued photo identification
Passport with “ARC” stamp

Canadian Permanent Residents are required to present a valid passport and Landed Permanent Resident Card at cruise check-in.

Non-U.S./Non-Canadian Passport Holders: A valid passport is required for all non-U.S. and non-Canadian citizens for all itineraries.

Passport validity

Many countries require passports be valid for six months after the completion of your travel. Check your passport to verify it will be valid for this period of time. Additionally, make certain that your passport contains blank pages for entry and exit endorsements and any visas that may be required. If necessary, allow sufficient time to renew your passport and/or obtain additional pages. (It may take longer than you think it will!) U.S. and Canadian passport holders sailing on a domestic cruise should ensure passports or other travel documents are valid through the completion of travel. There may be occasions where we retain your passport at check-in. This is to ensure that you are not inconvenienced by immigration clearance during your cruise and where face-to-face inspection is not required. We recommend you bring a second government-issued photo ID if you want to have one with you while in port.

There are over 7,000 Passport Application Acceptance locations in the U.S. You may locate the one closest to you by going to the U.S. Department of State website . The United States Postal Service also provides passport services. Visit the U.S. Postal website to find a post office location, get a list of fees and download a passport application .

Prohibited Items

Guests are advised not to bring any prohibited items to the ship. Prohibited items will not be allowed or stored on board the vessel with no exceptions. Guests are fully responsible for either storing these items ashore or disposing of them prior to embarkation.

The following items will not be allowed on board without a valid lawful reason:

All firearms including non-firing weapons. An exception to this rule is law enforcement agents acting in an official capacity and certified armed security guards acting in an official capacity (with full permission of the ship’s Master).
All forms of ammunition, explosive materials and propellants, projectiles of all kinds, cartridges.
All imitation or replica weapons including de-commissioned weapons, those not capable of being fired and realistic imitation/toy weapons.
Air/Pellet guns or any other variety of projectile firing weapon.
Stun Guns, Tasers or any other electroshock device.
All explosives and explosive device components including but not limited to military, civilian and safety devices, detonators, detonation cords, blasting caps, smoke cartridges, grenades, mines, imitation explosives/devices.
Fireworks, Flares and Pyrotechnics
Knives (with a blade over 6.35 cm (2 ½ inches), or 1.25 cm (½ inch) at widest point). bladed weapons, sharp pointed weapons, daggers, sabers, swords, axes, ice axes, hatchets, straight razors (shaving safety razors are allowed), razor blades not in a cartridge, box cutters, ice picks, meat cleavers, and utility knives, (unless specifically authorized for personnel who in the normal course of their duties on board the ship require to be in possession of a knife with a more substantial blade i.e. Galley Staff and Deck Ratings).
Flick knives, gravity knives, switchblades or lock knives. Small locking pocket-knife with blade lengths less than 6.35 cm (2 ½ inches) and widths ½ inch or less are allowed.
Concealed bladed weapons such as belt buckles knives, cane and umbrella knives/swords, pen knives and credit card knives.
Recreational Diver’s Knives unless accompanied by other diving/snorkeling equipment and a valid diving ID card/license (must be held in the custody of the Security Officer). Dive knives may be checked out/in by the owner for dive excursions during the cruise whereby 24 hours’ notice is provided.
Diver’s spears and spear guns/slings.
Ceremonial knives/swords as well as entertainment props are at times permitted with prior notification from the Fleet Security Department (must be held on-board in the same manner as dive knives).
Scissors with blades longer than 4 inches.
Telescopic or regular truncheons/batons/clubs/coshes/nightsticks/billy clubs/blow pipes/ASPs and or any other item made, adapted or intended for use as an offensive weapon.
Archery equipment including crossbows and bolts.
Martial Arts Equipment including flails, throwing stars, nunchakus/nunchucks, kubatons, bostaff, etc.
Knuckle Dusters, brass knuckles, or any other item constructed for use as a weapon in hand-to-hand combat.
Items containing Incapacitating Substances such as gas guns, tear gas sprays, pepper/mace cartridges, phosphorus, acid and other dangerous chemicals that could be used to maim or disable.
Flammable Liquids and hazardous chemicals/substances including gasoline/petrol, cooking fuel, acid, spill able batteries (except those in wheelchairs), phosphorous, oil, lighter fluid (common lighters are permitted), methylated spirits, paint thinners, acid, turpentine, spray paint, chlorine, bleach, spray paint and any other dangerous chemicals that could burn, maim, incapacitate or disable.
Compressed gas bottles/cylinders including propane tanks and aerosol cans (except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities). Dive Tanks are not permitted, empty or full. Medical gas bottles are allowed in connection with a certified medical condition but cannot be packed in baggage. Oxygen cylinders must be delivered to Guest Services and stored in a designated safe area. Oxygen cylinders are not x-rayed.
Drones also referred to as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicle (RPA), and any other remote-controlled aerial devices/toys. (The exception is when permitted for company sponsored events when approved in advance by Fleet Security).
Any other item made, adapted or intended for use as a weapon.
Hookah and Water Hookah Pipes, candles and incense, strike-anywhere matches.
Items brought on board the vessel and not supplied by the Company containing any kind of heating element, such as but not limited to: immersion heaters, heating blankets, flat irons, water heaters, coffee machines with heating / hot plates, etc.
Alcohol in violation of the company alcohol policy.
All illegal drugs, including medications without proper prescriptions.This includes legal intoxicant synthetic or “designer” drugs also known as “Legal Highs” such as Lysergamides, Opioids, Methoxetamine, Synthetic Cannabis, Betel Nuts or Kava (Cava).
Medical Marijuana
Noxious Items
Baseball bats, hockey sticks, cricket bats, lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles, and skateboards.
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), Ham radios, transformers, lasers, laser pointers.
Bicycles, including electric bicycles
Tools of trade/hobby including any type of hand or power tool. This includes hammers, drills, drill bits, crow bars, saws, power saws, chef/cooking knives/utensils, tools greater than 7 inches in length such as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers (unless prior authorization is provided by Corporate Headquarters and strict controls are maintained on-board).
Surfboards – (Boogie boards no longer than 42 inches in length are allowed).
Boats/canoes/kayaks

However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard then they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.

As our guest, please follow the above precautions while traveling on any of our ships, and please refrain from taking these devices with you on board.

Cashless Cruising

One of the best things about cruising with Princess is the convenience of being able to charge all your onboard expenses to your stateroom.

You will receive your OceanMedallion before you board. Guests will either receive it in the mail or pick it up in the terminal during the check-in process. The Medallion allows you to make TrulyTouchless™ purchases on board and is linked to your personal shipboard account where all purchases are charged.

Guests who have a credit card on file for their shipboard account, an authorization hold of $100 is placed on the credit card to ensure validity of the account. While you are on board, your daily charges will be authorized at close of business each day with your card provider. These authorizations can remain on your card for up to 30 days. Due to this, on extended voyages (in excess of 30 days) your credit card on file will need to be settled at or before the 30-day mark as a result of this authorization timing limit. Following this mid-voyage settlement, a new authorization will be placed on your credit card on file and be settled again at the end of your voyage. 3rd party credit cards will not be accepted for charges on board since the cardholder needs to sign for the charges.

Card must be valid for the length of the cruise. This information will be kept confidential. Princess Cruises use a “pre-authorization” system to charge credit and debit cards for onboard spend. This is standard hotel practice and places a “hold” on your credit or debit card, although your bank does not actually release any money to us. At the end of your cruise, your onboard spend will be charged in one transaction, and the holds will then be released by your issuing bank. Please note, some banks hold pre-authorized funds for up to 30 days limiting the funds available in your debit or credit account. We strongly recommend you check your bank’s pre-authorization process if you have any concerns about this system. To avoid your bank or credit card company blocking onboard transactions, please alert them of your travel plans ahead of time.

An itemized statement will be emailed to you post cruise. By providing your credit card in advance, you are automatically registered for Express Check-Out. There is no need to visit the Guest Services Desk to settle your account. We accept all major credit cards in most currencies. Those paying by traveler's checks or cash will be required to leave a cash deposit with the Guest Services staff at the beginning of the cruise.

Onboard charges are in United States Dollars (USD) with the following exceptions: for guests on sailings operating roundtrip from Australia, all onboard charges are in Australian Dollars (AUD)

If you are using a credit card to pay for your onboard charges on an AUD currency sailing, a surcharge fee of 1.1% will be applied (regardless of cardholder nationality). Debit cards do not incur a surcharge.

Princess EZpay Cruise Payment Plan

The Princess EZpay Cruise Payment Plan allows you to spread out the cost of your cruise with monthly installments and budget your vacation the easy way – with no extra fees! It’s easy to enroll in and easy to use; Princess EZpay simply charges the credit card on file every month until final payment is due – you can set it and forget it.

Casino Charges

Charges for obtaining chips and tokens in the casino are limited to $5,000 USD per day, up to a total limit of $100,000 USD per person, per cruise and are only available if you have pre-registered a credit card with the Guest Service Desk for Express Check-Out.

Accessible Accommodations

Our ships offer accessible staterooms designed for wheelchair maneuverability and feature wider doorways than a standard stateroom in both the stateroom and the bathroom. Bathrooms are equipped with a roll-in shower with a fold-down bench seat, a distress alarm, handheld shower head and grab bars. The stateroom also has an easy access closet and writing desk with wheelchair access. Additionally, all staterooms feature Medallion touchless entry, which unlocks the door as you approach.

There are three types of accessible staterooms on our ships.

Fully Accessible rooms are designed for use by guests with highly limited or no mobility who require regular use of a wheelchair, scooter, or other similar assistive devices and provide accessible elements including turning space, accessible routes throughout the cabin, and accessible bathrooms are designed for use by guests with highly limited or no mobility who require regular use of a wheelchair, scooter, or other similar assistive devices and provide accessible elements including turning space, accessible routes throughout the stateroom, and accessible bathrooms.

Fully Accessible – Single Side Approach rooms are also designed for use by guests with highly limited or no mobility who require regular use of a wheelchair, scooter, or other similar assistive devices. These rooms provide accessible bathrooms along with an accessible route and clear floor space on only one side of the bed in a stateroom configured to provide one bed and between the beds in a stateroom configured to provide two beds.

Ambulatory Accessible rooms are designed for use by guests with mobility disabilities who do not require the regular use of a wheelchair, scooter, or other similar assistive devices. These rooms provide some accessible features.

Onboard Experience

Access-friendly design across our fleet makes it easy to enjoy each vessel's restaurants, theaters, spas, lounges, and open deck space. Elevators have 36- to 42-inch doorways, and wheelchair seating is available in show lounges and other public spaces. Onboard, make reservations and requests using the Princess® Cruises App on your personal electronic device or interactive in-stateroom TV.

Visual Accommodations

We have a designated computer terminal equipped with JAWS Professional software equipped with a reader program available in the Internet Café. A headset is available upon request. For assistance, contact the Internet Café team once on board.

Braille/tactile signage is available on all ships. Large print, Braille, and electronic menus are available upon request with 60 days advance notice. If you prefer to have items read to you, please do not hesitate to ask a team member on board, who will gladly assist.

The ship’s activity schedule along with the ability to find points of interests, family and friends is available on interactive Portals located around the ship. A similar experience is available in the Princess App. For guests who did not bring their own device, a limited number of tablets with screen reading capabilities are available upon request from Guest Services on a first-come-first-served basis.

A text reader feature can be enabled on stateroom TV's to read aloud text that is displayed. This text reader is available to be enabled upon request to our Guest Services team.

Hearing Accommodations

With advance request to our Access team, we provide “all-in-one kits” with TTY that can be used in guest staterooms. When requested for an Alaska Cruisetour, TTY kits will also be provided for your stay at our Alaska Wilderness Lodges.

Televisions on board have closed captioning capabilities. Onboard theaters have assistive listening devices. Requests for interpreting services should be made at the time of booking through the Access team and are subject to the availability of qualified interpreters. If there are other guests onboard who also require the assistance of interpreters, they are shared. American Sign Language interpreting services may be requested in advance for guests traveling on itineraries that visit at least one port in the USA. Australian Sign Language interpreting services may be requested in advance for guests traveling on itineraries that visit at least one port in Australia.

Mobility Equipment Guidance

Here are some important things to know about bringing a mobility device onboard.

If you will be using a mobility device or have special needs, we strongly recommend you travel with a person physically fit to assist with your needs both onboard and ashore.

Although we do not offer mobility devices onboard for personal use, you are welcome to bring your own device. Alternatively, we do partner with the following companies who provide wheelchairs and other medical equipment for rent, and they can deliver directly to the ship. If a rental is a better solution for you, please do contact them directly.

Please ensure that your mobility device meets the following specifications:

Maximum device width: 22” for standard staterooms, 31” for wheelchair-accessible staterooms
Maximum combined weight of the wheelchair, including guest: 600 pounds (weight may vary outside the United States)

Your mobility device must be securely stored in your stateroom when not in use. This will ensure that hallways and other public areas are clear for other guests and crew to safely move throughout the ship. We do not offer alternate locations for mobility device storage onboard. For assistance onboard with charging your equipment in your stateroom, please contact your stateroom attendant.

If you are bringing other mobility equipment onboard or if you have booked Princess transfers, pre or post hotel stays, Cruisetours or shore excursions you must complete our Mobility Questionnaire (PDF) and return it to us at least 60 days prior to sailing.

Please be advised that filing out the Mobility Questionnaire is to ensure that our Access team can properly assist you with your accessibility and mobility needs. It is not an approval or confirmation of any request, nor does it guarantee being booked into or moved to an accessible cabin. Please ensure that you discuss your cabin needs with your Travel Advisor or our Reservations department.

Service Animals

Princess welcomes service animals that are trained to perform tasks including the support of vision, hearing or other specific needs as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Note that emotional support animals are not permitted on Princess ships.

Here are some important things to know about travelling with your service animal.

Travel Documents. Entry regulations for service animals vary by port. The regulations concerning the entry of service animals to the ports you visit vary and there are some ports where animals may not be allowed ashore. You will need to check with each country visited and obtain the necessary documents to travel. These may include vaccination records, medical certificates and other travel documents.
You will need to bring food, equipment and supplies.
We will provide a relief area with material onboard. The types of litter material are limited and may vary by ship.

Accessibility Ashore

Let’s chat about what you can expect as your plan your experiences ashore. There are varying levels of accessibility around the world. Some ports are more accessible than others, and accessible vehicles may be limited. We are here to help you navigate and deliver the best possible adventure ashore.

Getting to the ship: If you have purchased a Princess pre- or post-cruise hotel package or transfers, we will assist with arranging accessible transportation. Accessible transportation may be limited or not available in some foreign ports of call. Please be sure to submit a Mobility Questionnaire (PDF) so that we can make the appropriate arrangements for you.

Going ashore: Most ports provide easy access ashore via gangways. Due to various conditions including the steepness of the gangway, weather, shore-side facilities, tidal and sea conditions, guests using mobility devices may be required to transfer to a stair climber. Our team will guide you based on local conditions to assure your safety. For the safety of our team, crew members are only able to physically lift up to 50 pounds (22 kg).

In some ports, the ship anchors offshore and guests transfer to shore by water shuttles. When a water shuttle is required, guests using mobility devices will not be transferred into or out of the water shuttle, if lifting in excess of the above limitation is required. Many water shuttle ports do not provide wheelchair access so even if the guest can board the water shuttle, they may not be able to disembark ashore. Again, the shore-side facilities, movement of the water shuttle, weather and tidal conditions can also preclude the use of the water shuttle.

The final decision to allow any guest to board a water shuttle or disembark the ship will be made by the Captain on the basis of the safety and welfare of all involved.

Prescription Medication

In the event of unexpected travel delays and emergencies, please remember to bring additional prescription medication for at least 2 weeks beyond the length of the cruise. Also bring a list of the names, strengths and dosages of all medications in case refills are required.

Norovirus is a very contagious virus that causes vomiting diarrhea. You can get norovirus from having direct contact with an infected person, consuming contaminated food or water, or touching contaminated surfaces and then putting your unwashed hands in your mouth. There are several measures which have been placed to prevent and contain illnesses on our ships that meet or exceed standards set by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

The simplest way for you to stay healthy is to frequently and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water, especially before eating and after using the toilet. You’ll also find hand sanitizers located throughout the ship for your use after washing your hands. If you feel ill during your voyage, please immediately the ship’s medical team.  For more information on Norovirus, visit the CDC’s website .

Vaccinations

Vaccinations*

Information regarding required vaccinations for your cruise or cruisetour is listed on your Travel Summary (if applicable).

We recommend seasonal influenza vaccinations for all guests. Furthermore, you are strongly urged to seek advice from your healthcare provider or an approved public health advisory service to identify any specific vaccination or health precautions required for each port of call. For example, you may wish to reference the World Health Organization (WHO) or the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) . Some countries strictly enforce certain health requirements, in which case you may be required to present a completed and original vaccination certificate. Failure to present appropriate vaccination documentation at embarkation will result in guests being denied boarding.

IMPORTANT: Vaccination requirements vary by destination and do change from time to time. Guests should check with their Travel Advisor or contact the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to verify current regulations. 

COVID-19 vaccination may be required for your cruise during, and after the COVID-19 Pandemic. Please refer to the latest local public health authority guidelines.

Because governmental and medical vaccination requirements and recommendations change periodically you must check with your Travel Advisor, government authorities for the countries you will visit and/or medical professionals to determine or verify the actual requirements and recommendations at the time of sailing. Princess assumes no liability for the guest's failure to do so.

Guests undergoing dialysis should be aware that our ships’ medical facilities are similar to those of an urgent care center. While we do have trained medical professionals on board, they are not equipped to provide specialized care for dialysis patients. Should an emergency situation arise during your cruise, it is recommended that you be prepared to provide a complete list of medical conditions, medications, and allergies to the medical center.

Although we strongly recommend against undertaking the risks involved, Princess Cruises will allow a guest requiring peritoneal or hemodialysis to travel on our ships at the guest’s own risk . It is recommended that a guest requiring dialysis consults with his or her nephrologist prior to making travel arrangements. You should be stable on your dialysis treatments for a period of at least 12 months prior to sailing.

Among the many recognized risks to dialysis patients are:
Pericarditis
Cardiac tamponade
Congestive heart failure

Recognized risks associated with hemodialysis used in the treatment of kidney failure include but are not limited to:

Low Blood Pressure
Clotting of the vascular access
Muscle cramps

Before booking a cruise, the treating nephrologist should consider carefully the following:

There is no nephrologist available on any of the Princess cruise ships for dialysis patients.
Ships are not equipped with back-up battery support for dialysis related equipment.
A guest may be at sea for several days without any immediate hospital and/or specialist back up, and if the itinerary is not within the U.S., the availability of specialized shore side facilities can be extremely limited.

The risks to the guest who misses an appointed treatment are very serious, with little recourse available while at sea. The guest assumes these risks when a ship is prevented from entering a planned port of call for any reason.

Guests are expected to make all arrangements regarding dialysis, whether self-administered on board or at a shoreside facility. Environmental Officers can assure that dialysis waste disposal policies are followed, including providing the stateroom with a closed lid waste receptacle lined with a bio-hazardous bag for care of bags or pouches of bio-hazardous waste.

Finally, you should be aware that there are charges associated with being treated in the medical facility during your cruise, and that ordinary trip travel interruption insurance does not generally cover such treatment costs if you require medical consultation or treatment. An itemized bill will be provided which can be submitted to the guest’s health insurance company after the required treatment is charged to the onboard account.

If you will require oxygen supplementation during your sailing, please contact our Health Services Team by emailing [email protected] . You will be asked to send a letter or prescription from your doctor. You will also be required to let us know the type of equipment you will be using and whether you will be bringing your own supplies or if you will be having the equipment delivered to the ship. 

Pregnant women are not allowed to sail if they are entering the 24th week of their pregnancy by the last day of the cruise. 

All pregnant women are required to produce a physician’s letter stating that mother and baby are in good health, fit to travel and the pregnancy is not high risk. The letter must also include the estimated date of delivery (EDD) calculated from both Last Menstrual Period (LMP) and ultrasound (if performed). 

Please ensure you have your doctor’s letter with you when you embark.

Sharps Disposal

If you will be using sharps of any kind, including needles, lancets, or blades, for your safety and the safety of others you must utilize a sharps container . To dispose of sharps while on board, request a sharps container from your stateroom steward.

If you’ve completed the required OceanReady® steps and have your Medallion® device, you can expect a streamlined embarkation.

If you have not received your Medallion wearable ahead of time, you will be asked to show your OceanReady QR code to terminal personnel during the health screening process and once again at check-in. This code can be accessed through the Princess® Cruises App on your smart device. To streamline the check-in process, we ask that you print your OceanReady QR code. Your OceanReady QR code only becomes available once you complete your health questionnaire and accept passage contract and acceptances.

Please remember to have your Medallion device, mobile device with the Princess® Cruises App downloaded, and your luggage tags when you get to the terminal.

Printing your luggage tags is fast and easy! Beginning 75 days prior to sailing, you can print your luggage tags once the booking is paid in full and we’ve been provided with all your guest immigration information and credit card registration.

Age Requirements/Traveling with Children

Age requirements Guests under the age of 21 years must travel in a stateroom with a guest 21 years or older who shall assume responsibility for their care during the cruise. For family groups booking multiple staterooms, the minimum age for each stateroom is 16 years of age, provided they are traveling with a parent or legal guardian. We are unable to accept group reservations for student or youth groups that do not conform to our minimum age requirements. Each guest agrees and warrants that he/she will supervise any guest in his/her care at all times to ensure all policies, along with all other rules of the Carrier and ship, are strictly adhered to by all guests under their supervision.

Passport requirement when minors travel with one adult on voyages governed by the U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (includes travel within Bermuda, Canada, Caribbean, Mexico & United States)

When minors (any guest under the age of 18) are traveling with only one adult 21 years of age or older, Princess requires that all guests possess a valid passport. Carrier has implemented this requirement so that your party remains together should an emergency arise that requires one or more in your party to disembark in a non-U.S. port. Carrier cannot guarantee that all members of your party are allowed to disembark with just a WHTI-compliant document or birth certificate. Failure to present a valid passport for all guests traveling together results in denial of boarding without refund of the of the cruise or cruisetour fare.

Minimum Age Requirements: Infants must be at least 6 months of age at the time of embarkation in order to sail. Children must be at least 12 months of age at the time of embarkation to sail on trans-ocean crossings and remote itineraries, where there are more than 2 consecutive sea days.

Cruisetours: The minimum age for escorted cruisetours is 5 years.

Car seats US and Canadian regulations require that children up to the age of 8 years old may be required to travel in a car seat, booster seat or other child restraint system. When being transported by car, taxi, limo, van or shuttle, it is your responsibility to know the regulations and provide the applicable child restraint system.

Infants/Young Children and Swimming Pools Parents/guardians are reminded to bring their children dressed in appropriate attire with towel and sunscreen. Youth staff will not conduct children's activities in the adult or splash pools. Parents must supervise their children at all times when using the pools. Infants and young children in diapers and/or swim diapers, and children who are not toilet trained are NOT permitted in any of the pools or spas due to public health concerns.

Our policy is strictly observed on board and is intended for the public health safety of all guests.

Documents for guests under the age of 18 Several countries require special documentation for children traveling with only one parent or with neither parent; these requirements are subject to change without notice. Many foreign countries require any single parent or guardian to bring a permission slip for the minor to travel abroad. It is your responsibility to ensure that you possess the proper documents for all of the countries that you will visit. Please verify requirements with the consulates of the countries visited prior to your cruise.

For guests under 21 years of age or those who are traveling with children, please note:

Entry into the disco after 10 p.m. is limited to guests 18 years and over. Be sure to check with the Youth and Teen Centers for special dance parties designed for kids and teens.
Children who are toilet-trained and accompanied by a parent or guardian are permitted in the sauna and hot tub(s) unless otherwise specified.
Guests under the age of 13 are allowed in the evening entertainment show lounges if they are with their parent or guardian.
In line with domestic U.S. age limits, as well as our company policy, the casino, cash prize bingo and horse racing are reserved for guests 18 years and older. Picture identification may be requested.
Guests under the age of 18 are prohibited from purchasing cigarettes or tobacco products while on board.

Youth programs Princess offers our Camp Discovery Youth Program, where your little ones will have engaging, supervised activities designed specifically for them. The Treehouse (for ages 3-7) and The Lodge (for ages 8-12) give kids the chance to enjoy everything from arts and crafts, game tables, movies, and more.

Children are welcome on all Princess ships, facilities vary.

Don’t miss the orientation and registration meeting on the first night of your cruise. You and your children can meet the Youth and Teen staff and learn more about our exciting shipboard programs. Parents are always welcome to join their children in the Youth and Teen Centers.

ADDITIONAL REMINDERS Children under 3 are not permitted in the Youth Center unless accompanied by a parent at all times. Youth counselors cannot administer medication, bottle-feed, change diapers, or provide meal service. Private in-cabin babysitting is not available on any Princess ship. All children participating in the Youth Program must be potty-trained. Children who are not potty-trained are not permitted in hot tub or pool facilities.

CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Princess welcomes all children and teens ages 3-17 to participate in our programs. Let our counselors know of all medical and/or special needs for your children. We will make every effort to accommodate them. Please be advised that Princess Youth counselors do not offer individual one-on-one supervision.

JUST FOR TEENS And for cruisers age 13-17, we have The Beach House, a contemporary surf-themed lounge just for teens. The Beach House offers teens a range of activities including teen only dance parties, sports tournaments and talent shows. Or, have fun meeting other teens with the Dating Game. Those seeking a creative retreat will enjoy hip-hop dance classes, T-shirt painting, casino nights, mocktails, pizza parties or special teen-only dinners.

During voyages with a high number of families on board, we will make all efforts to accommodate interested parties. However, participation in our program cannot be guaranteed. Hours of operation may change to better serve our guests.

Pre-pay your Crew Appreciation

For your convenience, if your fare did not include pre-paid crew appreciation, we're pleased to offer you the ability to pre-pay the crew appreciation that is included in your folio on board at the end of your cruise. You can also utilize this service as a gift for someone else who may be cruising.

To simplify the tipping process for our guests, a discretionary crew appreciation of $16.50 per guest for suites, $15.50 per guest for mini-suites and $14.50 per guest (including children) in all other staterooms, per day, is automatically added to your shipboard account on a daily basis. The crew appreciation is a daily (adjustable) amount added to your onboard account and pooled in order to recognize the many crew members in the Bar, Dining, Entertainment, Housekeeping, Guest Services, Galley and Onboard Revenue areas and entertainment areas throughout our fleet who contribute to the guest experience.

The Lotus Spa offers a tranquil environment where you can renew your mind and body with restorative spa therapies from around the world.

To help you unwind, the Lotus Spa offers a full range of personalized spa treatments, including hair and beauty services, massage, sensuous wraps, aroma therapies and even teeth whitening.

Spa advance reservations are accepted between 120 to 7 days prior to departure. Guests must be 18 years or older to indulge in any body treatments and at least 16 years of age to utilize the fitness facilities. Other Spa services are available to guests 13 years and older when accompanied by an adult.

Guests with disabilities should email the Access Office for assistance with accessible shore excursions. The Access Office works in partnership with our Shore Excursion department who will assist and advise you directly of your options. Before you board, make your vacation as seamless as possible with some helpful details on booking flights, transfers and port driving directions.

If you purchase a Princess airport-to-ship transfer, you’ll be met by a uniformed Princess representative at the embarkation port airport.

For domestic U.S. flights, you’ll be met near the luggage claim area. For international flights, you’ll be met as you exit the secure customs area. Make sure you claim all your luggage prior to exiting the luggage claim area.

From the airport, you’ll be transferred to your ship or hotel. But if you haven’t purchased your air travel arrangements from Princess, you must provide us with flight details prior to purchasing your transfer.

And if you require special assistance, be aware that lift-equipped transportation may not be available in your port of embarkation or disembarkation. Arrangements must be secured in advance to accommodate your needs.

What To Pack for a Cruise

Items you may need to pack to make your time with Princess the best vacation ever!

Clothing Recommendations

You should dress for a cruise with Princess the same way you would for any stylish land-based resort.

Casual sportswear, including shorts, lightweight pants, sundresses, will keep you feeling fresh and looking your best while at sea and ashore in hotter climates.

We recommend you bring a sweater, a jacket or an all-weather coat for cool evenings, and for shore excursions, depending on your destination. Due to unpredictable weather, don't forget a hat or visor and a collapsible umbrella. Please be sure to bring proper clothing for visits to religious sites. You'll also want low-heeled, rubbersoled shoes for strolling on deck, as well as comfortable walking shoes or sandals to wear.

Princess makes it easy to know what to pack and what to wear when you’re dining on board our spectacular ships. There are two designations for dress codes: Smart Casual and Formal.

Smart Casual Guest attire should be in keeping with what they would wear to a nice restaurant at home.

Skirts/dresses, slacks, blouses, and sweaters for women
Pants and collared or dress shirts for men

Pool or beach attire, shorts, ball caps or jeans with fraying and/or holes are not welcomed in the dining room. Shoes must be worn.

Formal When formal nights are held, please observe the dress code in the dining venues for the enjoyment of all our guests.

Evening gown, cocktail dress or elegant pant suit for women
Tuxedo, dark suit or dinner jacket and slacks for men

Packing for Your Cruise

Follow these important luggage reminders:

Essential medicines, travel documents, valuables and breakables should be hand carried in your possession at all times.
Many domestic airline carriers now impose excess baggage fees for one or more bags and bags weighing over 50 lbs., so check with your carrier regarding weight restrictions.
Princess will make every effort to assist you in safeguarding your belongings. But remember, you are responsible for your things at all times. Princess is not responsible for money, jewelry, cameras, binoculars, documents or any other articles you retain in your personal control.
All luggage should have a sturdy personal identification tag that will not be lost or damaged in the course of typical airport and trucked luggage handling.
On journeys including air travel, luggage will be subject to a considerable amount of handling and we would recommend that your luggage be of sturdy construction.
Princess recommends that your travel protection is adequate enough to cover any possible loss or damage which may occur. Any loss or damage caused by Princess or an airline must be reported immediately to the responsible party.

Alcohol Policy

As provided in the Passage Contract, on the day of embarkation, guests are permitted to bring one 750ml bottle of wine or champagne on board per voyage, which will not be subject to a corkage fee if consumed in your stateroom. Additional wine or champagne bottles are welcome, but will incur a US$20/AU$30 (depending on shipboard currency) corkage fee each, irrespective of where they are intended to be consumed. Liquor, spirits, or beers are not permitted. Please remember that luggage will be scanned and alcohol outside of our policy will be removed and discarded.*

Alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty free from The Shops of Princess, or at ports of call, will be collected for safekeeping and delivered to the guest's stateroom on the last day of the cruise. A member of the ship's staff will be at the gangway to assist guests with the storage of their shoreside alcoholic purchases while The Shops of Princess staff will assist guests with shipboard alcoholic purchases.

*Princess is not responsible for any alcoholic beverages removed and discarded by shoreside security staff. Such items are not eligible for monetary refund or replacement. Guests found with prohibited items, including alcohol outside of the policy, may need to collect their luggage at a security checkpoint on board.

We strongly recommend you hand-carry all valuables and breakables, including jewelry, electronics and cameras as well as any medications. Please read the Passage Contract for limitations and responsibilities for lost items and baggage.

Shore Excursions

Exploring destinations around the world is one of the highlights of your vacation, and the best way to do this is on a Princess Cruises Shore Excursion.

Safety Ashore

Our primary concern at Princess is your health, safety and security. We are in continuous contact with authorities concerning any travel advisories that might impact our cruises.

If the U.S. State Department advises against travel to specific locations we visit, we would make the necessary changes to the published itinerary. Although such itinerary changes occur infrequently, please understand that these changes are for your own safety and security and are beyond our control.

We remind all of our guests that they must ultimately assume responsibility for their actions while ashore. In this regard, we would like to remind you of some common sense precautions when visiting ports-of-call:

Stay in the normal tourist areas and don’t travel to out-of-the-way places without the benefit of a guided tour.
Do not leave any of your belongings unattended in public areas.
Be generally aware of people and activities around you.
Do not accept packages from anyone you don’t know personally.
Keep a low profile–dress and behave conservatively.
Be careful when eating and drinking ashore.

We will always adhere to local guidelines and protocols regarding the health and safety of our guests and crew.

Excursion Cancellation

Cancellation of Pre-Paid Shore Excursions:

If you have pre-paid a shore excursion and wish to cancel, the following shall also apply:

If a pre-paid shore excursion is cancelled five (5) days or more prior to sailing a refund of the pre-paid amount will be made in one of the following ways:

If there is a shore excursion balance for the guest named on the reservation being cancelled then the pre-paid amount shall be applied to this balance.

If there is no shore excursion balance for the guest named on the reservation being cancelled then the pre-paid amount will be refunded to the credit card used to pre-pay the shore excursion. All refunds will be processed in due course, but delays should be anticipated. Please allow sufficient time for us to manage this process and know we are doing everything in our power to expedite where possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

If a pre-paid shore excursion is not cancelled within the above time frame or is cancelled during the voyage prior to the "Closing Time for Cancellation" listed for the particular excursion you wish to cancel, then the pre-paid amount will be refunded to the guest named on the pre-paid reservation as a shipboard credit on this guest's shipboard folio. Please note this is done regardless of which guest pre-paid for the shore excursion.

Cancellation of Pre-Reserved Shore Excursions

Due to the nature of excursions involving hotel accommodations, flights and private vehicles, these excursions are not refundable after the closing date, which is 30 days prior to sailing.

Due to the limited capacity and high demand for helicopter flights, any excursion involving a helicopter flight is not refundable unless cancelled no later than 12:00pm on the day after embarkation.

For other excursions in each port of call, a "Closing Time for Cancellations" is listed on the Shore Excursion Order Form found in your stateroom. This is the time when the bookings for the excursions in that port close and we notify the local operators of the final excursion requirements. You may cancel an excursion if it is prior to the closing time whether you reserve an excursion in advance of the cruise or book on board. However, we cannot cancel an excursion if it is past this closing time, nor will we refund an excursion on which you have reserved but do not to attend.

Cancellation of Alaska Land Excursions

Alaska Land Excursions, purchased through the Cruise Personalizer, may be cancelled up to three days prior to travel without any cancellation fees. Land Excursions cancelled prior to the cancellation deadline will be refunded to the credit card that you provided in the Cruise Personalizer to purchase your tours. Excursions cancelled within three (3) days prior travel are subject to a 100% cancellation fee, unless the operator, at their sole discretion, is unable to operate the program due to unforeseen circumstances. All sales of tours booked while on your land tour are considered final at the time of purchase and are 100% non-refundable except in the case of an operator approved cancellation.

Multiple Excursions in One Port

If you choose to book more than one excursion in a single day, please allow at least 60 minutes between each excursion. All excursions depart from, and return to, the cruise ship pier. By scheduling in this manner, you will have sufficient time to take multiple excursions.

Tipping on Excursions

Tipping is a discretionary matter. It is, however, customary around the world, if one is pleased with their excursion, to tip the guide.

Here are suggested ranges (in U.S. dollars) to assist you in determining what amount is appropriate:

Excursion Timing

One very important feature of taking an excursion organized by Princess is that we closely monitor the departures and returns of all excursions. Therefore, our ships do not sail until all of our organized excursion transportation has returned, so you can be assured that you won't miss the ship. Please keep in mind that when you make your own arrangements in port, or if you leave an organized excursion, we will no longer be aware of your whereabouts; so be sure to schedule yourself with ample time to return to the ship before it sails.

Excursion Companies

All excursions are operated by local, independent companies and not by Princess. We selected only the most reputable companies available to provide your excursions. The companies providing your excursions are selected by Princess based on their excellent reputation for service and safety.

Children’s Excursion Pricing

Select excursions offer child pricing. Our reservation system will automatically apply a child rate if one is available on eligible tours when you make your reservation. Once on board, check your excursion tickets to ensure you have received the correct number of child tickets. If you have received the incorrect number of child tickets, visit the Shore Excursion Desk as soon as possible to make any necessary adjustments. Child prices are not available for excursions involving flights or hotel stays. Toddlers aged 2 and younger sitting on a parent's lap (not occupying a seat), are not charged for most excursions. If a parent would like their infant to occupy a seat or would like to utilize a safety seat, the parent must purchase an excursion ticket for the infant at the published excursion price. Parents are also responsible for bringing a safety seat for their child.

Excursion Age Restrictions

For most excursions, there is no minimum age for children as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Guests under the age of 18 years cannot participate without a parent or guardian. A few operators may allow an unaccompanied minor on an excursion if a waiver is signed by the parent or guardian in the operator’s presence.

Guided Excursions

All excursions include local English-speaking guides except for "On Your Own" excursions and where otherwise noted.

Where possible, time for shopping has been allowed within the framework of some excursions. However, excursions are not primarily designed for shopping, and time allowed for this purpose may be limited.

Yes, it is buried way down on that page. It took me some work to find it a couple months ago. I ordered an extension cord without surge protection before I found that. I ended up cancelled that order and bought some adapters from eBay for my upcoming cruise.

My DD (who is disabled) had a heating pad for medical reasons. She needed an extension cord to reach her bed. Apparently, using the heating pad and a hair dryer at the same time tripped the circuit breaker and cut power to a couple of cabins. They confiscated the extension cord but not the heating pad. Go figure.

We were leaving the Terminal in Miami and there was a table just packed with confiscated items with labels on them. Looked like a flea market. There were a number of irons, heating pads, extension cords, surge suppressors, etc. I was surprised at how many items had been confiscated and being returned.

It is not what you claim it is. You got an extension cord with USB charging port. I got those at home too but it is not classified as phone charger even at store. Yours likely has surge protection which is also banned in other cruise lines.

You don't actually lose the item. They hold it and have a "Naughty Table" where all the items are there for when you get off on debarkation day. You will see a myriad of items as you pass by from irons, folding pocket knives, power strips, hot pots, and the like.

I had one held for me - was a pain to go to the naughty room and then have to collect again on departure.

Remember that you don't have to bring an extension cord. Just ask your stateroom attendant or butler and you will have one in minutes.

I always request one in advance now after having being summoned to the Naughty Room. The have long ones, short ones, 120V, 220 V, etc. Our butler asked us if we needed a power strip also... so they have them on board.

I remember before we did our first cruise last year going through that list reading 'surfboard' and having a good chuckle

On another board there was a picture of a multiple outlet cord that the person said they TOOK along and it was okay, I had one and TOOK it along, guess what 🤔 , my husband had to go to naughty room 😁

So what’s the latest on corkscrews to open the two bottles of wine per cabin that you ARE allowed to bring? Sometimes people report no problem. Sometimes they are confiscated. If my butler can give me one to use in my suite, why can’t I bring one with me when I do not have a butler to solve the problem?

I read that it was perfectly fine in the past to bring on-alcohol beverages, and cruisers just sent packs of bottled water or juices or soda onboard as luggage...

Surge protector is not allowed on cruise ships due to the different way of wiring on ship than a typical household on ground. Sometimes, it is hard to tell if an extension cord has surge protection or not. So it would be safer to ban all extension cords from passenger but provide one simple extension cord that they know it has no surge protection.

On our flight from Quito to Baltra it was all real knives and forks!!! Maybe grounds for a HiJack???
