How to Reach

The closest airport to Bankura is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Dum Dum, Kolkata located about 170 km away. There is another new airport now that can be accessed in Durgapur that is a mere 45 km from Bankura. However Durgapur is yet to enjoy the kind of connectivity that the Kolkata airport does with rest of the country. From the airports tourists can hire cabs to reach their preferred destination in Bankura.

Bankura does have a railway station of its own, the Bankura Junction Railway Station which is part of the South eastern railways. This is however not a very big junction and has trains traveling to and from Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar only. The closest major railheads are Midnapore railway Junction and Sealdah in Kolkata. Midnapore has trains coming from different parts of the state while Kolkata of course enjoys superb connectivity with the rest of the country. From the station tourists can take taxi to reach Bankura.

Bankura enjoys good connectivity by roads with major places of the state. It is connected by National Highway 14 and State Highways 5 and 9. There are regular buses operated by South Bengal State Transport Corporation (SBSTC) from Bankura to Kolkata up and down. It takes about 5-6 hours to cover a distance of 170 km.

There are artistically designed terracota panels on temple walls, some depicting Ramayana and Mahabharata themes, but simple terracota items as wall plates and ashtrays are also readily available. The famous Bankura horse, now the symbol of Indian handicrafts, is available in various sizes, ranging from less than a feet to around three feet tall. With mounting tourist demand, wood-carved versions are also available.

Harris campaign launching reproductive rights bus tour in Palm Beach

PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A new bus tour to support Vice President Kalama Harris’ presidential bid will begin next week in Palm Beach.

The Harris’ campaign highlighted the choice to kick off its “Reproductive Freedom Bus Tour” in the hometown of her opponent, former President Donald Trump. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar is slated to be the featured speaker at the event.

“This election is about freedom – and the American people want and deserve the freedom to make their own health care decisions,” Harris-Walz Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said.

Harris’ camp framed the bus tour as a way to highlight differences between the Democratic nominee’s stance on reproductive rights versus those held by Trump, whom they describe as playing a major role in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

The entire bus tour is expected to make more than 50 stops across the country. While Klobuchar will be featured during the Palm Springs kickoff, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz are expected to join in other cities.

The Harris campaign did not release a full list of stops but explained that it plans to go to both Democratic and Republican strongholds.

“The ‘Fighting for Reproductive Freedom’ bus tour will drive home for voters that this threat to our fundamental freedoms touches every American,” Chavez Rodriguez continued.

On Sunday, Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, said he does not believe the former president would support a national abortion ban, if he were reelected, and would veto such a bill.

"I can absolutely commit that," Vance said when asked on NBC's "Meet the Press" whether he could commit to Trump not imposing such a ban. "Donald Trump's view is that we want the individual states and their individual cultures and their unique political sensibilities to make these decisions because we don't want to have a nonstop federal conflict over this issue."

Vance's comments come after Democrats spent night after night of their national convention in Chicago the previous week.

Bus tour highlights south side hot spots.

YOUNGSTOWN — A seven-stop bus tour Saturday is designed to highlight efforts to revitalize and bring economic development to the city’s South Side.

“The South Side is filled with incredible people, thriving nonprofits, healthy businesses and faith-filled church communities,” said Vicki Vicars, a tour organizer who also is Thrive Mahoning Valley’s director of advancement and Ursuline Sisters Mission’s director of mission, equity and resilience.

The tour costs $10 with tickets available at Glenwood Grounds Coffee House, 2906 Glenwood Ave., or by calling Vicars at 330-717-8953. The tour is 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. The bus can hold up to 80 people and tour guides and site hosts will be on hand to provide information.

The tour starts at the former South High School, 1833 Market St., which Youngstown City School District closed in 1993. It has changed hands a few times and operated as charter schools.

Youngstown Jubilee Urban Development bought the property Oct. 26 for $500,000 and started a revitalization project to restore the former school. One of its first projects is renovating the former auditorium, including restoring the wood floors, replacing 800 broken seats and updating stage lighting and the audio system.

From there, the tour stops at the Oak Hill Collaborative and St. Patrick Church, both on Oak Hill Avenue.

The collaborative includes a maker space, a small business incubator and computer training courses through its Digital Advantage Initiative.

St. Patrick has long been an anchor in the Oak Hill neighborhood with the church built in 1926.

The tour stops at the Ford Nature Center at 840 Old Furnace Road in Mill Creek Park. The facility completed a $4 million improvement project last year, including a new natural exhibit hall, history room and bird observation room.

The bus continues to the Youngstown Playhouse at 600 Playhouse Lane, off Glenwood Avenue. The playhouse is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

The playhouse started in 1924 in a converted barn on Lincoln Avenue and moved to Market Street in the 1940s before building its current home in 1959.

The tour visits the Bernard Street Housing Development, which is underway on the Glenwood Avenue corridor.

The development encourages home ownership near the north end of Glenwood Avenue. In its first phase, three new homes are under construction by the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. on Bernard Street, which used to be called Cliff Street and was closed by barricades for years. YNDC is also planning three additional homes on the street.

Also on the tour is the Glenwood Grounds Coffee House, which opened in 2022, in a former retail store building in 1925.

“This tour will give participants a revelation of the transformation taking shape on Youngstown’s South Side,” said Jon Howell, a tour organizer and a community activist.

Harris allies kick off reproductive rights bus tour in Florida

Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign kicked off a bus tour  on Tuesday aimed at amplifying the issue of reproductive rights in the leadup to November's election.

And they did so in West Palm Beach, Florida, choosing not only to begin the tour in a state with a high-profile abortion amendment on the ballot in November, but in former President Donald Trump's backyard.

The event on Tuesday featured Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who herself ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, Republican television personality Ana Navarro, Harris-Walz campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and others.

Sonia Suter, a professor of law at The George Washington University, told Spectrum News that that the event's setting in Florida was aimed at emphasizing Trump's role in the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. Trump nominated three justices to the high court who were part of the majority that overturned the landmark 1973 ruling.

"The location is intended to sort of emphasize the fact that Roe was overturned because of the appointment of Supreme Court justices by former President Trump," Suter said.

It was a point that speakers on Tuesday tried to hammer home.

"My friends, I ask you, what better place to kick off the Harris walls reproductive freedom bus tour than in Donald Trump's backyard?" asked Wasserman Schultz.

"It is not lost on us that we are just ten miles from Mar-a-Lago, home of one Donald J. Trump," Klobuchar said. "He calls it the 'Winter White House.' I call it his retirement home."

Klobuchar talked about hearing "horrifying stories" from women about abortion in the aftermath of Roe v. Wade being overturned in 2022.

"Women turned away from emergency rooms, forced to the brink of death before receiving the care they need and that is what Donald Trump is so proud of," she recounted. "So let’s be clear, a second Donald Trump term would be so much worse." 

It comes just days after Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, unveiled his  new campaign promise  to have the federal government or insurance companies cover the cost of in vitro fertilization, which the Harris campaign panned as "gaslighting,"  and separately announced his opposition to Florida's abortion amendment . Known as Amendment Four, the ballot initiative would bar restrictions or bans on abortion before fetal viability, which is typically around 23-24 weeks. The amendment needs 60% support to pass. 

The state currently has a six-week ban in effect, which is before most women know they are pregnant.

Klobuchar told CNN earlier in the day Tuesday that she believes the issue of abortion puts the state in play for Democrats, despite its rightward shift in recent elections, citing the abortion amendment and the high-profile U.S. Senate race between Republican Sen. Rick Scott and former Democratic Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.

"I think you're gonna see Florida in play and Amendment Four puts it on the map in a big way," the Minnesota lawmaker told the outlet.

The campaign says the reproductive rights tour will make at least 50 stops in the lead up to Election Day, “touching blue communities and red ones, with support for reproductive rights transcending party lines.”

“This election is about freedom – and the American people want and deserve the freedom to make their own health care decisions. Our campaign is hitting the road to meet voters in their communities, underscore the stakes of this election for reproductive freedom, and present them with the Harris-Walz ticket’s vision to move our country forward, which stands in stark contrast to Donald Trump’s plans to drag us back,” Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement last week announcing the tour. “As we crisscross the country, we’ll be driving that contrast home to red and blue voters and independents.”

Trump allies, however, believe the election will come down to kitchen table issues, like inflation, rather than abortion.

"I think it's important for voters in swing states to understand that the ballot initiative in Florida has no bearing on the cost of food in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan or anywhere else," Florida Rep. Byron Donalds told CNN in an interview over the weekend, calling the abortion amendment "far too radical."

Following their appearance at the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last week, Amanda Zurawski, Hadley Duvall, and Kaitlyn Joshua, are also expected to join the tour. The three women have been sharing their stories of abortion, miscarriage, and pregnancy, and how denying abortion care to women can be life threatening.

Zurawski sued the state of Texas in the wake of the Dobbs decision by the Supreme Court, following a miscarriage that led to a life-threatening case of sepsis after being denied abortion care. Joshua, in telling her story over the years, has detailed being turned away from two emergency rooms in the middle of a miscarriage. Duvall was raped and impregnated by her stepfather at age 12, and while she ultimately miscarried, her home state of Kentucky currently excludes exceptions for cases of rape or incest — meaning that women and girls in a similar situation are excluded.

“What is so beautiful about a child having to carry her parent’s child?” Duvall questioned on the DNC stage in Chicago.

Part of Harris’ stump speech over the last several weeks has been a promise that if Congress were to expand and protect reproductive rights with legislative action, she would sign the bill immediately. “One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree the government should not be telling her what to do,” Harris said during her rally in Savannah Thursday, adding a warning that despite Trump’s insistence that leaving the issue up to individual states is the right approach, he will sign a national abortion ban if elected.

Democrats claiming Florida Senate seat is in play haven't put money behind the effort to make it so

B OYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Florida Democrats made bold claims last week about their chances in a state that has steadily grown more conservative in recent years. But so far they have not matched their words with the kind of money it will take to win there.

“Florida is in play,” proclaimed Debbie Mucarsel-Powell , a former representative from Miami, at the start of a bus tour in defense of women's reproductive rights in Boynton Beach. Mucarsel-Powell is the choice of Florida Democrats to challenge incumbent Republican Sen. Rick Scott for one of a handful of Senate seats the GOP is defending this election cycle.

According to data from AdImpact, which tracks spending on advertising by political campaigns and their surrogates, Republicans have outspent Democrats on Florida's U.S. Senate race by roughly a 4-to-1 margin through Sept. 11, $12.7 million to $3.2 million. Based on ad spots currently reserved through the general election, that margin is expected to grow.

The dynamics of the Senate race mirror what has happened in the presidential race in a state that used to be hotly contested by both parties' top-of-the-ticket candidates. Vice President Kamala Harris did not attend the launch of the bus tour and has not been to Florida as a candidate since she replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for president in the race against Republican former President Donald Trump.

The Republicans' massive spending advantage may help to explain why Scott scoffs at the claims coming from Democrats about Florida being competitive.

“They are so far from what Florida voters believe in, that they don’t have a chance in the world of winning Florida,” he said in an interview last week. “They don’t have a chance of beating Trump, and they don’t have a chance of beating me.”

Mucarsel-Powell says her side is more in touch with voters on issues such as reproductive rights. She says ballot amendments on both abortion rights and legalizing marijuana will help Democrats turn out voters. She also said the switch from Biden to Harris gave Florida Democrats a burst of fresh momentum.

“This is momentum that has been building for quite some time, and her announcement just was like the tip of the iceberg on the momentum and the energy that was building here around the state of Florida,” Mucarsel-Powell said in an interview.

A national AP-NORC survey conducted in July showed that about 8 in 10 Democrats said they’d be satisfied with Harris as the party’s nominee for president, versus 4 in 10 Democrats in March saying they’d be satisfied with Biden as the nominee.

But Mucarsel-Powell's task remains formidable. Although some polling shows Scott leading narrowly in the Senate race, national Democrats have yet to invest heavily in Florida’s expensive media markets. Harris, who has proven to be a prolific fundraiser since she became the Democratic nominee, recently allocated $25 million of her own campaign funds to help down-ballot Democrats in November — with only $10 million of those funds going to U.S. Senate candidates. Harris' campaign did not respond to questions on how these funds were being allocated.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee said it has spent money on staffing and digital advertising on the race but didn't specify how much. In a statement, they did not address plans for spending going forward but said: “Scott’s unpopularity coupled with the strength of Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign makes Florida one of Senate Democrats top offensive opportunities.”

Scott, who has his eye on a Senate leadership position if he wins, said he would welcome a bigger effort from national Democrats.

“I hope they spend a bunch of money and waste it, because they don’t have a chance of winning the Senate in Florida,” he said.

Florida Democratic Party chair Nikki Fried said national Democrats showed their support by starting their bus tour in Florida and sending campaign representatives there to support Democratic candidates. Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, who is in a strong enough position in her own reelection bid to work on behalf of other Democrats around the country, was one of several Democrats who joined Mucarsel-Powell at the start of the bus tour.

“They could have started anywhere else in the country. They started here in Palm Beach County, in Donald Trump’s backyard,” Fried said. "That shows how important Florida is, and that they are going to continue to watch what is happening on the ground, send surrogates here and making sure that we are in play for November.”

About 150 people attended the bus tour event.

Fried acknowledged that Democrats have been outspent on advertising in Florida, but she said they're putting their energy into campaigning at the grassroots level. She said 40,000 new volunteers signed up after Harris entered the race and were making an all-out effort to knock on doors and reach out to Florida voters by phone.

This year’s Florida ballot looks different from the one voters saw two years ago, where U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and Gov. Ron DeSantis led the top of Florida’s ticket. The governor had hoped to ride a wave of momentum from his emphatic 19-point victory to national prominence but was unable to loosen Trump’s grip on the Republican Party nationally.

Trump, now a Florida resident, defeated Biden in Florida by 3.3 percentage points in 2020, further diminishing its status as a swing state.

Brian Ballard, a Republican political strategist who was a top fundraiser for Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign, said the lackluster spending effort by Democrats will make it harder for Mucarsel-Powell to introduce herself to people across the state who don’t recognize her — as opposed to Scott, who was Florida’s governor from 2010 to 2018 and has since then been serving in the Senate.

The lack of spending from the national party, Ballard said, is “usually a sign of a losing campaign.”

“Florida is not in play,” Ballard said. “I hope the Democrats commit and spend a lot of money in Florida on the presidential race. It’ll move the needle not at all. If she’s relying on Democrats spending on top of the ticket, she’s relying on fool’s gold.”

The Florida contest has not drawn much attention from national Democrats, who are trying to hold onto far more Senate seats than Republicans this year. Instead, they have focused much of their energy and resources on defending seats they already hold, including in the red states of Ohio and Montana. Still, the Florida U.S. Senate race was close in late July, just before the Florida Senate primaries, according to a poll of Florida voters conducted by the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab.

Scott said in the interview that he isn’t “taking a chance” by treating his own race lightly. And yet he has spent at least some of his time campaigning for other Republicans, including a trip across state lines to battleground Georgia last week for a town hall in Braselton, northeast of Atlanta.

“This is a team sport,” Scott said of his efforts on behalf of other GOP candidates.

Tiffany Lanier, 36, attended the bus tour Tuesday morning in Boynton Beach. Lanier, a Lake Worth civic engagement public speaker, said that although Biden ran on a similar platform to Harris, she thinks Harris’ position and emphasis on abortion rights really excites and motivates people to turn out to vote.

“I think it was more like in my wilder dreams that Florida would be in play for this November,” Lanier said. “I know that we are so very tight in the polls, but I do see that there is an energetic shift. And so, I do see a lot of possibility here.”

Ombudsman recommends streamlined enforcement of tour bus safety regulations

Introduction 

According to Bureau of Transportation records, dozens of tour companies operate in Portland, including party buses, charter buses, tour buses, and limousines. Tour companies ferry sightseers around Portland or from the city to wine country, the Oregon Coast, Mount Hood, the Columbia Gorge, and other locations throughout the state. To protect the safety of the passengers, the Bureau requires tour companies that conduct business within city limits to obtain a permit that includes proof of insurance, driver background checks, and vehicle safety.  Permit fees are approximately $1,130 but may be lower or higher depending on whether a company is renewing a permit and the number of drivers it employs. 

The Ombudsman received a complaint in March 2024 from the owner of a tour bus company about the Bureau’s enforcement of its permit requirements. The owner provided a list of nearly three dozen tour companies that were allegedly picking up customers in Portland without permits. The owner said that the Bureau was not making sufficient efforts to bring them into compliance, which put the owner at a competitive disadvantage because the unpermitted companies could avoid permit fees, carry less expensive insurance and avoid the costs of vehicle inspections and criminal background checks for drivers. The owner said the problem has been going on for more than a decade. 

The Ombudsman investigated and discovered dozens of tour companies that appear to be operating in Portland but are not listed as having a permit. This means that some sightseers and partygoers are likely taking tours without assurances that the vehicles passed safety inspections, the drivers cleared background checks, and the companies have adequate insurance. The issue of unpermitted tour companies drew media attention in 2012 when an 11-year-old suffered a fatal injury after falling out of a window on a party bus that did not have a City permit.

We found that the Bureau’s efforts to investigate whether companies are meeting the permit requirement involve unnecessary steps that may be slowing down the process of bringing companies into compliance. We also learned that other jurisdictions employ swifter and simpler approaches that achieve a high level of compliance. 

We recommend that the Bureau take several steps to get unpermitted companies into compliance and help ensure the safety of the public.

Portland City Code Chapter 16.40 provides the regulatory framework for all private for-hire transportation services, which include taxis, transportation network companies such as Uber and Lyft, and tour companies. The purpose of the regulations is to “ensure the safety and reliability” of the services, promote innovation, and allow fair competition “so long as public safety and the public interests are served.” 

Under Title 16.40.600 , permit requirements for tour buses, limousines, party buses, and other multi-passenger vehicles include:

• An insurance policy with no less than $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate for bodily injury and property damage
• Criminal and driving background checks for all drivers
• A vehicle safety inspection.

Civil penalties for operating without a license are $1,250 for a first offense, $2,500 for a second offense, and $5,000 for a third offense. Subsequent offenses result in suspension or revocation of certification. City Code also provides authority to impose criminal penalties for violations and to tow vehicles, but according to PBOT these provisions have not been used. 

The Bureau unit that enforces tour company regulations also enforces regulations for taxis, medical transport, and transportation network companies such as Lyft and Uber. According to the Bureau, the unit’s primary focus has been enforcement of requirements for taxi and transportation network company drivers. 

The Bureau’s records dating back to 2018 include the names of 116 tour companies. Thirty-four of these were either permitted or pending approval as of July 2, 2024. The remaining 82 did not have permits. The Bureau does not know how many of these 82 companies are operating in Portland. Some may have shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic and kept their websites active in case they decided to re-start. But Bureau officials acknowledge that many are operating in Portland without a permit. We conducted online searches on a sample of names from the list of 82 companies without a permit. Out of 28 companies we checked, we found that 23 appear to be conducting business in Portland, based on their websites, reviews or advertising.  

Bureau’s enforcement process includes unnecessary steps that prolong investigations, delay citations of unpermitted companies 

Bureau officials told the Ombudsman that they are aware of the compliance issue but proving that a company is operating in Portland is challenging. Regulations require proof that a tour originates within city limits. The Bureau’s enforcement efforts have included reviewing company websites and booking tours. If the Bureau uncovers evidence of an unpermitted company conducting business in Portland, its practice has been to issue a warning letter and then a cease-and-desist letter. If a company continues to operate without a permit after the letters, Bureau staff can issue a citation. Because of limited staffing, the Bureau does not promptly issue citations when a company fails to respond to a cease-and-desist letter. The Bureau’s process does not have specified timelines.

A 2024 Portland Hearings Office decision suggests that the Bureau’s practice of sending both a warning and case-and-desist letter before issuing a citation consumes limited staff time and drags out the process. In the case before the Hearings Office, a company’s permit expired in November 2020. The Bureau sent a warning letter 11 days after the permit expired.In September 2022, the Bureau sent a cease-and-desist letter. In January 2024, while conducting investigations into unpermitted tour companies, a Bureau investigator discovered that the company’s website was offering regular tours and issued a $1,250 citation, more than three years after the permit expired. After the Hearings Office ruling in April 2024, which upheld the citation, the owner renewed their permit and is now among the 34 legally operating tour companies.

We find that the decision demonstrates two important points. First, the Hearings Office determined that Title 16 does not require sending out warning and cease-and-desist letters before issuing a citation. In other words, the Bureau is taking time and limited investigatory resources to send unnecessary letters. Second, the Bureau does not need extensive documentation to prove that a tour company is conducting business in Portland. In this case, the Bureau submitted 17 pieces of evidence to demonstrate that the company was operating in Portland, including screenshots of its website, online reviews and an advertisement. However, the Hearings Office determined that a single advertisement at a popular discount website was sufficient to justify the citation. Based on this decision, the Bureau appears to be spending limited time and investigative resources gathering more evidence than is necessary to justify a citation. 

Other jurisdictions achieve high compliance in fewer steps

We reached out to several other jurisdictions in the western U.S. to see how they enforce their permitting requirements. Representatives of Colorado and Washington responded. Both have quick and simple enforcement practices with high compliance rates. 

The Colorado Public Utility Commission regulates tour companies statewide and has similar requirements as Portland, including insurance and driver background and vehicle safety checks. When they receive a complaint about an unpermitted sightseeing operation, an undercover investigator calls the company on a recorded line and asks if they can book a seat on a tour. If the company representative says yes, the investigator uses the recording of the call as evidence that the company is operating tours without a permit and issues a citation. Colorado had 73 licensed tour companies as of July 2024. The exact number of unlicensed companies was not immediately available, but the Commission indicated it was fewer than a dozen. That would give it a compliance rate of about 85%. 

The Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission regulates tour companies and requires insurance and vehicle inspections. When an investigator uncovers evidence of an unpermitted company, they send a cease-and-desist letter as required by state law. If the company does not respond within 15 days, an undercover investigator reaches out to the company and inquires about tour availability. If the company representative affirms availability, the investigator will issue a citation. Investigators do not record calls, but their notes are sufficient to uphold a citation. Washington has 117 licensed tour companies and 13 active investigations as of July 2024. If all 13 companies under investigation are proven to be operating without a permit, Washington has a compliance rate of 90%.

Portland City Code requires tour companies operating within the city to obtain permits that require them to show proof of insurance, vehicle safety inspections, and driver background checks. Lack of enforcement of tour company regulations undermines the core purpose of these rules: to protect public safety. Passengers may be put at risk when companies have not passed important safety checks or demonstrated that they are adequately insured. Weak enforcement also fails to provide an even playing field for the companies that comply with the rules. 

Recommendations 

To increase compliance by tour companies with City regulations designed to ensure public safety and promote fair competition, the Bureau should immediately take the following steps:  

• Open investigations into the 82 unpermitted tour companies in Bureau records. Rather than continuing its practice of first issuing warning and cease-and-desist letters, the Bureau should instead use its authority under City Code to move directly to issuing citations against those that advertise that they pick up passengers in Portland. 
• If evidence of advertising is unavailable, reach out to the company by email or phone and determine if they are conducting business in Portland. Promptly issue a citation if the company confirms.  
• Look into whether it is necessary and feasible to record phone calls to use as evidence when the Bureau contacts companies by phone. 

Portland Bureau of Transportation Response

Harris-Walz reproductive freedom bus tour continues in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (WLOS) — The Harris-Walz "Fighting for Reproductive Freedom" bus tour continues in Raleigh, North Carolina Monday.

Organizers said they're hoping to rally voters and hold former President Donald Trump accountable for recent abortion bans across the country.

Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and the wife of vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, Gwen Walz, are expected to discuss how Donald Trump and running mate JD Vance will use Project 2025 to ban abortion nationwide.

The tour is expected to make at least 50 stops in key states. With the Tar Heel state so divided politically, Harris's campaign representatives hope to transcend party lines with the following message:

We have very recent examples as for why every single vote can matter here in North Carolina," Democrat Lindsey Prather, NC-115 district representative, said. "The Republicans have a super majority by a single seat in the legislature. They are the ones who have been able to push for the abortion ban that we have in North Carolina. And so every single vote absolutely matters and absolutely affects the rights we have here in North Carolina.

After Tuesday night's presidential debate , Harris is expected to kick off her four-day campaign trip through major swing states. Its first stop will be in North Carolina on Thursday.

The "New Way Forward" tour is part of the final sprint before the November election.

Harris bus tour announced, follows Trump's struggle to explain Amendment 4 position

Kamala Harris ' presidential campaign said Friday it will launch a national bus tour highlighting reproductive rights and freedoms from Donald Trump 's Palm Beach County backyard.

The bus will depart Tuesday, Sept. 3, with U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, Harris-Walz campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez, CNN commentator Ana Navarro and U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston. Also aboard will be Anya Cook, a Coral Springs resident who spoke at the Democratic National Convention about nearly losing her life as a result of Florida's ban.

"At this stop and in cities across the country, reproductive rights storytellers, key surrogates, and elected and local officials are going to underscore the ongoing threat Donald Trump poses to reproductive freedom across the country, including threatening access to IVF," the campaign said in a statement.

Trump indicates he will vote yes on Florida's Amendment 4, or maybe not

The announcement came a day after Trump and his campaign struggled to explain the Republican White House nominee's position on a constitutional amendment that proponents say will secure abortion rights in his Florida home state.

The amendment on the Nov. 5 ballot seeks to overturn legislation banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy that was passed by the GOP-dominated Florida Legislature and signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis into law.

On Thursday evening, Trump was asked by NBC News reporter Dasha Burns how he would vote on the measure known as Amendment 4.

"I think the six weeks is too short. It has to be more time, and I've told them that I want more weeks," Trump answered.

Burns then followed up the question saying "so you'll vote in favor of the amendment," to which Trump replied: "I am going to be voting that we need more than six weeks."

Trump's comments put him at odds with DeSantis, the Legislature's GOP supermajorities and the conservative justices on the Florida Supreme Court that approved the six-week ban in April.

Almost three hours later, Trump's campaign attempted to clarify their candidate's comments.

"President Trump has not yet said how he will vote on the ballot initiative in Florida, he simply reiterated that he believes six weeks is too short," Karoline Leavitt, Trump campaign national press secretary, said in a statement.

That statement coupled with Trump's assertion that he would "be voting that we need more than six weeks" was unclear as a measure to extend the period of time in which abortions are permitted does not exist and is not on the November ballot.

During remarks in Potterville, Michigan, Trump said "we want more babies" and pledged to U.S. taxpayers — "your government" — "will pay for" or "your insurance company will be mandated to pay for all costs" involved in individual IVF treatments.

The Harris-Walz campaign did not specify which cities or states would be included in the route but did say there would be at least 50 stops in blue and red communities in support of reproductive rights and cutting across party lines.

“This election is about freedom — and the American people want and deserve the freedom to make their own health care decisions. "As we crisscross the country, we’ll be driving that contrast home to red and blue voters and independents.”

The campaign statement also slammed what it called Florida's "extreme" abortion ban.

"This ban outlaws abortion before many women even know they are pregnant, and threatens physicians with prison time for providing essential reproductive care," the statement said. "Trump brags that he is 'proud' to be responsible for overturning Roe and, if given a second term, he and JD Vance would go further."
