Shakira Reveals Global Tour Plans – Here’s What We Know

shakira world tour

Shakira’s going on tour next year! In a recent interview with Billboard , the Colombian icon revealed plans for an upcoming world tour, describing it as “the tour of a lifetime.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by billboard (@billboard)

Besides releasing a new album , rumors of Shakira’s upcoming 2024 tour have been circulating since Billboard briefly reported it earlier this month . Now, the singer confirmed that it’s officially in the works during Billboard’s latest cover story published today (Sept. 21). Though specific details are yet to be revealed, the media outlet shared that the global tour is aiming to include arena and stadium shows in almost 12 countries across Latin America, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East.

“I think this will be the tour of my life. I’m very excited. Just think, I had my foot on the brakes. Now I’m pressing on the accelerator — hard,” Shakira said about her upcoming touring plans. Moreover, she also revealed that she was working during Beyoncé’s recent tour by “taking notes.”

Though we don’t know the exact logistics of the tour, Shakira wants it to be affordable. Besides balancing the songs that people want to hear, she also recognizes that a higher production equals a higher ticket price, which she doesn’t want. “I want the tickets to be affordable. But to me, the most important thing is the repertoire. That’s why I think [my next tour] will be the tour of a lifetime, because I have so many songs,” she said.

Based on her recent MTV Video Vanguard Award performance and her overall musical trajectory, we know that Shakira has a rich discography of hits. Will she perform all the hits from all of her albums? The upcoming tour will be the first since 2017’s El Dorado global tour.

Shakira Shares Her Triumphant Return to Singing in ‘El Dorado’ Concert Documentary

By Nuria Net

Toward the end of Shakira ‘s new documentary, Shakira in Concert: El Dorado World Tour , the pop superstar is onstage in her home country of Colombia, performing the final concert of her momentous 2018 tour . Throughout the film, which opens in theaters worldwide on November 13th, Shakira takes absolute control of every aspect of her live show: from the lighting to the musical arrangements to the choreography. (“I want to look sexy as hell, or I cancel this!” yells Shakira with zeal to her crew during rehearsal.)

But on that same night in Bogotá, we see Shakira break down in tears for the first and only time onscreen. “It was bittersweet,” she tells Rolling Stone, while seated inside Barcelona’s luxe Mandarin Oriental Hotel. “It was the ending of a phase in my life filled with so many different emotions. . . . It was possible that I would never sing again.”

“When I was there in Bogotá, finishing that cycle, in my country,” she says, “I couldn’t feel more overwhelmed with emotion, gratefulness, and nostalgia.”

In November 2017, the 42-year-old artist was forced to postpone her first tour in seven years — and her first since becoming a mother to two sons — due to a vocal-cord hemorrhage injury. It was a serious, unprecedented health scare that Shakira says shook her to her core and put everything in perspective.

“I always thought my youth would go away one day, my black hair would go away one day . . . anything,” she says wistfully as she snacks on gummy bears. “But I never thought my voice would go away. That was unthinkable. It was so inherent to my nature, to who I am. It’s my identity.”

“When I couldn’t speak, when I couldn’t sing,” she says, “it was the worst nightmare of my life.”

The documentary doesn’t dwell much on the painful episode, but focuses on Shakira’s triumphant return to the stage. In support of her Grammy-winning 2017 album El Dorado , the tour finally kicked off in the summer of 2018, spanning 55 dates in 22 countries and captivating almost a million spectators. The film, co-directed by the artist and James Merryman, was shot primarily during the Los Angeles stop of the tour, and is a celebration of Shakira’s bond with her loyal fans around the globe, many of whom appear in close-ups crying of joy and singing along.

It is also an unflinching statement on Shakira’s prowess as an entertainer. It’s all about her vision and execution: her voice, as powerful as ever, and her flawless dance moves, commanding the adulation of thousands of fans night after night. In contrast to other superstars of her stature, on this tour Shakira had no backup dancers (“I wanted the freedom to improvise”) and the set design was purposefully minimalistic — inspired, she says, by Anton Corbijn, one of her favorite visual artists, who has directed music videos for U2, Metallica, and Depeche Mode.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

Fans will also delight in behind-the-scenes moments of Shakira in the studio with Maluma and Nicky Jam, writing and recording songs together; glimpses of her interacting with her family and her band during rehearsals and between concerts; and even seeing her dancing and singing aboard her private plane, still brimming with adrenaline after performing the nightly two-hour-long show.

Instead of going straight to DVD or streaming services, Shakira in Concert: El Dorado World Tour offers a communal fan experience, with screenings in more than 2,000 theaters in over 60 countries on the same day. A live album of the tour will also be released this week; it’s a gift to fans who have been with her through thick and thin, and who, Shakira says, are the true protagonists of El Dorado.

“When an artist decides to go on tour, in a way, he or she needs reaffirmation,”  Shakira says. “We need to confirm that there’s people out there loving us, worshipping what you do. . . . [There’s] a very narcissistic motivation behind all of that,” she adds with a laugh. “When I came out on tour this time, there was none of that. I just wanted to do it for them, because they were there for me.”

Shakira is currently in the studio working on new material and studying different types of dances — including the Afro-Colombian genre champeta — as well as slimming down her two-decades-long repertoire for her upcoming Superbowl LIV performance , which she will share with Jennifer Lopez in February. (She has not ruled out a collaboration.)

.”I definitely want to showcase everything I’ve learned lately, and everything I’m capable of doing as an artist,” she says of the months to come.

Shakira in Concert: El Dorado World Tour  will premiere internationally on November 13th in more than 2,000 theaters across 60 countries.  Tickets are now available on the film’s website .

She’s still got it! I’ve been a massive Shakira fan for as long as I can remember, and I was hesitant to see her this year as I was worried about her performance not living up to my expectations and disappointing me.

Wow was I wrong. The energy was fierce and she audience were enthralled for every moment. The combination of Shakira enthusiastically throwing herself around the stage alongside the awesome pyrotechnics brought together the performance and atmosphere flawlessly.

Her sexuality is upfront yet inoffensive and a positive addition to her almost acrobatic dance routines.

She really aims to please her audience, interacting with them running through the aisles and offering her hand to fans. My absolute favourite was her performance of the classic, ‘Whenever Wherever’ which made the crowd go crazy. She appeared to relish every moment of her performance, which in turn encouraged us to lose ourselves in her performance. I really would recommend checking her out live if you have the chance, even if the European Pop isn’t up your street, she sure gives a great performance!

Shakira was just amazing!!! I’ve been amazed by her singing her dancing and her charm that I was able to see live. She is an incredible singer with mind blowing voice. I adore her for her persistence and that she decided to make the tour even when she was having health problems earlier. Live she’s even better than I imagined her to be.

Thank u for being there with us.

We love you so much Shakira!!! And we hope we will see u in Luxembourg again!

Unfortunately the concert was postponed. More unfortunate was that the cancellation was not very well informed, so I went to the concert place for nothing. I'm expecting to get my money back or possibility to use my ticket on other concert.

With a New Album Underway, Shakira Confirms 2024 Arena and Stadium Tour

Shakira’s 2024 global tour will include arena and stadium shows in nearly two dozen countries.

Shakira Live Photo

Concert lovers have seen their fair share of iconic performers in 2023, and currently, Shakira’s star is shining exceptionally bright. With seven Latin Grammy nominations, an unforgettable MTV Vanguard performance, and a recent hit release, Shakira is again in the spotlight, leaving fans on the edge of their seats anticipating Shakira’s 2024 tour.

In her latest single, “El Jefe” with Fuerza Regida , Shakira delivers again! The song unapologetically sheds light on the everyday struggles of many Mexicans and Latine individuals, and its music video vividly brings to life the stark realities of the migrant struggle.

But Shakira’s recent accolades don’t end with “El Jefe.” The Latin Grammy nominations she’s garnered for 2023 are nothing short of impressive. Her songs “Acróstico” and “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53″ are nominated for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Shakira’s status as a musical force to be reckoned with makes her one of the most nominated artists of the year!

Shakira Reveals 2024 World Tour Plans !

Given all the acknowledgment and acclaim Shakira has received lately, the possibility of a tour is on the horizon. Fans who have longed to witness her compelling and irresistible performances in person may find their wishes coming true in the near future.

In a recent interview with Billboard magazine , it was revealed that Shakira’s 2024 tour “will include arena and stadium shows in nearly two dozen countries across Latin America, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East.”

Shakira also expressed how she wants her tickets to be “affordable” but it also depends on what fans want in terms of production. “The more production you have, the higher the ticket price,” shared Shakira with Billboard magazine.

“I want the tickets to be affordable. But to me, the most important thing is the repertoire. That’s why I think [my next tour] will be the tour of a lifetime, because I have so many songs.”

While the full run of tour dates for Shakira’s 2024 tour have not been disclosed, you can expect the shows to focus more on her catalog of songs which are full of hits, as opposed to over-the-top production.

Keep your eyes peeled on Shakira’s tour page , as the official tour announcement will come sooner rather than later. Expect the new album to drop first, though!

Shakira Says She ‘Lost Money' on Her First World Tour Because of a $1 Million Cobra

Shakira has always been quite meticulous about the production elements of her different tours and performances - so much so, that it's made her even lose some money.

While chatting with Sean Evans on Hot Ones Thursday, the Colombian pop star revealed that she ended up losing money on her 2002 Tour of the Mongoose because of a giant cobra background element at the start of her shows.

"I remember on my first world tour. I had the brilliant idea of coming up with a cobra," she said. "It was a huge cobra in the middle of the stage. It would lift up at the beginning of the show."

"That cobra cost $1 million to produce so taking it on the road was so expensive," she added. "At the end of the tour, I lost money. It was one of my most successful tours. It was sold out everywhere but I had to take a big loss because of a stupid cobra."

The Tour of the Mongoose was her third-ever tour and celebrated the release of her first English album, Laundry Service . During the run of shows, she performed songs such as "Whenever, Wherever," "The One," and "Ciega, Sordomuda."

During the Hot Ones episode Thursday, Shakira also revealed that she was a "huge Family Guy fan" and reached out to Seth MacFarlane to help translate her 2009 song "Loba" for its English version "She Wolf."

"I was a huge Family Guy fan and I always thought that he was so creative and so musical as well," she said. "I really admire the musical production of the show. So I looked for him, but then I ended up writing it myself. I found the right words, I found what I wanted to say."

The new interview comes after she released her album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran , featuring tracks such as "Puntería" with Cardi B, " Entre Paréntesis " with Grupo Frontera, and " Cohete " with Rauw Alejandro.

Shakira is set to release her first full-length LP in seven years on March 22. The album’s name, which references Shakira’s most quoted line in her and Bizarrap’s Latin Grammy-winning “Music Sessions Vol. 53,” is “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (“Women Don’t Cry Anymore”).

“Making this body of work has been an alchemical process,” said Shakira in a statement. “While writing each song I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”

Popular on Variety

Shakira’s new album marks her debut release on vinyl, featuring four distinct artwork editions, each paired with an exclusive colored vinyl variant. The Sapphire edition will be exclusively offered on Amazon, while the Ruby edition will be available solely at Target. Fans can find the Emerald edition exclusively on Shakira’s official website, and the Diamond edition will be stocked by all major retailers.

In the last year, Shakira won song of the year and best pop song for “Music Sessions Vol. 53” and best urban fusion/performance for “TQG” at the 2023 Latin Grammy Awards. “Music Sessions Vol. 53” also became the Spanish language song with the most streams in a single day in Spotify’s history.

Shakira was also the recipient of the  2023 Video Vanguard Award  at the MTV Video Music Awards where she delivered a 10-minute performance featuring “She Wolf,” “Te Felicito,” “TQG” and more.

Shakira has fans eagerly awaiting her upcoming album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. The singer is a professional when it comes to building anticipation, and along with being in the studio, she seems to be preparing something huge for its official release on March 22.

Taking to social media, Shakira shared a preview of what we can expect. Known for her impressive hips and dancing, the Colombian was in the dance studio rehearsing some moves with backup dancers.

Shakira

The two dancers, sat in chairs as they watched Shakira passionately move. “Working hard. Getting ready for the album launch!” Shak wrote in the caption.

Eagled-eyed fans are looking for any clues in the photos, and one of them is a piece of metal that looks like armor. “Like if you saw the armor on the floor,” one of her followers wrote in the comments.

A WORLD TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT?

It’s unclear what the rehearsals are for, whether it’s for a music video, live performance, or the official announcement of a world tour.

Shakira confirmed in 2023 that there would be a tour this year in Billboard’s September cover story. “I think [my next tour] will be the tour of a lifetime because I have so many songs,” she told the outlet.

The arena and stadium tour will likely hit almost 12 countries across Latin America, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East.

And hopefully, fans won’t have to get into debt to watch her shows. “I want the tickets to be affordable. But to me, the most important thing is the repertoire,” she explained.

The mother of two knows how hard it is to put a tour together while balancing production costs to make this possible. “Putting a tour together is fun, but it’s a great effort, and you have to put everything on the balance and decide what the fans really want to hear, what songs you want to hear, and how much production you want. In the end, the more production you have, the higher the ticket price,” she continued.

The last time Shakira went on tour was for her “El Dorado World Tour,” which ran from June 2018 to November 2018.

ONE ALBUM: FOUR EDITIONS

Fans will have to wait and see what other tracks are on “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” The singer has plenty to talk about after moving to Miami following her separation from Gerard Piqué . What is certain is that the project features 16 songs: eight new ones, one remix, and seven successful singles that we already know well, such as “Music Sessions Vol. 53” with Bizarrap, “TQG” with Karol G , “Te Felicito” with Rauw Alejandro, and “Copa Vacía” with Manuel Turizo.

The vinyl album will feature four collector’s editions, distinguished by color and cover. The Sapphire edition will be exclusively available on Amazon, while the Ruby edition will be only at Target. Fans can find the Emerald edition exclusively on Shakira.com, and the Diamond edition will be available at all major retailers.

Shakira

Throughout her enduring career, Shakira has dropped culturally and commercially successful albums that have cemented her as a legacy artist. Her latest, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran , released March 22 , is a testament to the intense emotions that have powered every single one of her songs since her breakthrough in the 1990s.

Using music as a tool or resource to navigate the peaks and valleys of life, the Colombian hitmaker is intentional in her songwriting with raw lyrics, meticulous as a producer and an extraordinary performer bringing to life the songs that define not only her eras but those of women across generations. With albums like Pies Descalzos (1995), Dónde Están Los Ladrones? (1998), Laundry Service (2001) and El Dorado (2017), Shakira offered a soundtrack to women who are vulnerable, who love deeply to the point of self-destruction, who remain on a healing journey — or who have turned their tears into diamonds after a life-defining heartbreak.

The 10 studio albums we’re ranking — not including her first two Magia and Peligro , which were recorded when she was still a young teen and are not even currently available on streaming — have also documented her evolution as an artist, going from her black-haired rock era in Dónde Están Los Ladones? in the ’90s with raging guitars, to her English crossover with Laundry Service in the early 2000s, the pop-reggaeton El Dorado in 2017 and the eclectic Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran where she dabbles in sounds like norteño, Afrobeats, pop and electronic music, generally defying overall categorization.

Las Mujeres  is Shakira’s first new album in seven years. It also marks her debut release on vinyl, featuring four distinct artwork editions, each paired with an exclusive colored vinyl variant. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard ‘s Top Latin Albums (chart dated April 6) and at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 .

Below, our ranking of every Shakira studio album.

Shakira (2014)

Shakira, Shakira.

Although commercially successful — peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, her highest ranking on the chart to date — Shakira’s self-titled set isn’t her most hits-packed project, or her most memorable one. It’s also not particularly cohesive by her standards: For an artist who’s always been intentional with every album, every song, every lyric, this one didn’t reflect that perfectionism that has defined her work. The few bangers that save this album are “Empire,” “Dare (La La La)” (because who doesn’t love a Shakira World Cup song), and the Rihanna-assisted “Can’t Remember to Forget You.”

She Wolf (2009)

Shakira, She Wolf

Four years after Fijáción Oral Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation Vol. 2 , both released in 2005, Shakira delivered She Wolf , placing all bets on a more electronic — clubby sound, a sharp contrast to her previously-released music. The result is not her best album — though it peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 — but it is still home to her anthem “Loba” and its English version “She Wolf,” which peaked at No. 11 on the Hot 100. The single, powered by punchy lyrics and an earworm of a chorus, became one of Shakira’s most celebrated songs to date.

Sale El Sol (2010)

Shakira, Sale El Sol

With Sale El Sol , an album primarily in Spanish, Shakira returned to her experimental roots without focusing too much on whether the set would have mainstream appeal or not. Unlike its predecessor, She Wolf — which was produced mostly by Shakira and The Neptunes, presenting a more “Americanized” version of Shakira — Sale El Sol was exactly the opposite.

The 16-tack set was packed with hip-swiveling reggaetón beats, merengue and Colombian cumbia, and also featured explosive collaborations with El Cata (“Loca”), Pitbull (“Rabiosa”) and Residente (“Gordita”), where the Puerto Rican hitmaker rapped about liking Shakira better when she was chubbier, had dark hair and was a rockera . Coming off a massive run with “Waka Waka” for the World Cup in Africa, this fun and eclectic album further fueled her momentum, including English and Spanish versions of the global hit.

Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (2005)

Shakira, Oral Fixation, Vol. 2

With  Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 , Shakira ventured into mainstream pop and rock, marking a departure from her straight-through Latin pop and Middle Eastern-influenced sound. The album, however, presented a mixed bag. While “Don’t Bother” showcased Shakira’s ability to embrace guitar-driven rock, it lacked the distinctive flair of her previous works. The iconic “Hips Don’t Lie,” featuring Wyclef Jean, was a standout, blending salsa with reggaetón against an invigorating Jerry Rivera sample — a hit that does not lie.

However, the Carlos Santana collaboration on “Illegal” felt underwhelming, failing to deliver the expected synergy. Likewise, “The Day and the Time” with Gustavo Cerati, while demonstrating Shakira’s genre versatility, didn’t hit the mark entirely — which was a bit shocking considering the participation of these two legendary artists. Despite its uneven moments,  Vol. 2  still signaled Shakira’s ambitious foray into new musical territories and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

El Dorado (2017)

Shakira, El Dorado

Named after the mythical City of Gold envisioned by the Muisca indigenous people of Colombia,  El Dorado  traces Shakira’s journey through a rich musical treasure trove. In the reggaetón-pop hit “Chantaje” featuring Maluma and the infectious “La Bicicleta” with Carlos Vives, Shakira blends vallenato and música urbana while infusing them with cool confidence and nostalgia. Intro track “Me Enamoré” offers a glimpse into Shakira’s former romance with Gerard Piqué, providing a stark contrast to today’s narrative surrounding the unabashedly unfaithful soccer star. “Toneladas” highlights her emotive prowess, while “Deja Vu” with Prince Royce delivers a sensual bachata fusion.

However, not all tracks hit the mark. “When a Woman” feels out of place, with its screeching vocals and starkly contrasting message to the empowering  Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran  (“When a woman loves a man/ Manipulate and cause you pain/ But lift you up when you’re hurting,” she wails). Despite its missteps,  El Dorado  still shines with resounding versatility and cultural pride. The album reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200.

Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 (2005)

Shakira, Fijación Oral, Vol. 1

Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 , Shakira’s sixth studio album, arrived on June 3, 2005 — when she was on top of the world, following a decade of success in Latin America, and a victorious debut in the English market. Getting back to her native language, Shakira presented a mostly pop set, co-produced by artists such as Gustavo Cerati, Lester Méndez, Luis Fernando Ochoa and José “Gocho” Torres.

With singles like “No”, “Días de Enero”, “Las de la Intuición” and “La Tortura” with Alejandro Sanz — without a doubt the biggest hit of the set, and the only one that entered the Billboard Hot 100 — the album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums, the most for the Colombian star at the top of the ranking.

Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (2024)

shakira LAS MUJERES YA NO LLORAN

In a stunning transformation, where tears transform into diamonds and vulnerability into strength, Shakira turns pain into pop gold, affirming her alchemical prowess and resilience. Born out of an emotionally tumultuous breakup, this album serves as a pivotal chapter in her career, marking her resurgence like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

With a gap of seven years since her last studio album  El Dorado  — due to Piqué  “dragging”  her down, in her words — Shak navigates a spectrum of moods and genres, from infectious Afrobeats (“Nassau”) to soul-stirring bachata (“Monotonía”), Tex-Mex rhythms (“(Entre Paréntesis)”), and a stellar revival of her rock roots (“Cómo Dónde y Cuándo”).

Her solo tracks like “Tiempo Sin Verte” and “Última” sparkle, while collaborations with Cardi B, Grupo Frontera, Rauw Alejandro and Bizarrap add intrigue. With her 12th studio album, the self-proclaimed She Wolf restates the premise of her wildly unapologetic kiss-off “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” all while continuing to craft melodies and lyrics that evoke pain, passion and allure. Meanwhile, she also invites listeners to revel, weep, wreak havoc and thrive with her all at once.

Laundry Service (2001)

Shakira, Laundry Service

Shakira’s first set in English was monumental, as it marked the crossover of the Colombian star, who began her formal conquest of the English-speaking market with the first single “Whenever, Wherever” — and a newly dyed blonde hair. The pop rock song with strong influences from Andean music gave the singer-songwriter her biggest hit at the time, debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Without a doubt, the track was the standout of the set, and its music video revealed that Shakira was not only a great performer but also mesmerizing dancer, flaunting her signature iconic hip-swiveling dance moves.

Released on Nov. 13, 2001 by Epic Records,  Laundry Service  is primarily a pop-rock album, but also experiments with dance-pop (“Ready for the Good Times”), Middle Eastern rhythms (“Eyes Like Yours”), and tango (“Objection (Tango)“). With titles also including “Underneath Your Clothes” and Spanish versions for some of the tracks, it debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 dated Dec. 1, 2001, and spent a total of 62 weeks on the chart.

Pies Descalzos (1995)

Shakira, Pies Descalzos

Shakira’s third studio album,  Pies Descalzos , put her on the map internationally with an assertive pop-rock sound, serving as a canvas for her direct lyrics and personal aesthetic, mixed with elements of dancehall, bossa nova, bachata and more. Released on Oct. 6, 1995 under Sony Music Colombia, it is home to anthems such as “Estoy Aquí,” “Antología,” “Dónde Estás Corazón,” “Pies Descalzos, “Sueños Blancos,” and “Se Quiere Se Mata”, which consolidated the 18-year-old singer-songwriter as a rising star in Latin America and beyond.

On the  Billboard  charts, it peaked at No. 5 on Top Latin Albums and spent a total of 102 weeks on the ranking, and it reached No. 3 on Latin Pop Albums, spending 97 weeks on the chart. The first single, “Estoy Aquí,” reached No. 2 on Hot Latin Songs, and all the songs mentioned above (except for “Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos”) entered the top 20.

Dónde Están Los Ladrones? (1998)

Dónde Están Los Ladrones, Shakira

From the moment the intro track “Ciega, Sordomuda” kicks in on  Dónde Están Los Ladrones ?, Shakira unleashes a maelstrom of infectious energy, blending mariachi-infused pop with Latin rock coolness and her trademark self-deprecating charm. At just 21, Shakira’s groundbreaking album not only showcased her bohemian rockera persona but also a voice unlike any other – a deep vibrato that left listeners spellbound.

Seamlessly navigating between sweet pop-rock relatability and effortless cool, her songwriting shines throughout. In “Moscas en la Casa,” she turns the mundane into a poignant exploration of everyday life. “Inevitable” induces goosebumps with its powerful balladry and explosive Latin rock crescendo, with lyrics like “ Siempre supe que es mejor/ Cuando hay que hablar de dos/ Empezar por uno mismo ” demonstrating her wisdom beyond her years. Songs like “Tú” and “Octavo Día” show Shakira’s lyrical depth with incisive social commentary; on the latter song God becomes unemployed and wanders the streets amid a chaotic moment in time.

The album’s closer, “Ojos Así,” weaves Middle Eastern melodies, underscoring her boundary-pushing musical fusion. With  Dónde Están Los Ladrones ?, the Colombian rising star not only questions where the thieves are (specifically, the thieves who stole her suitcase that had lyrics to her second album that never came to be), she also steals the spotlight, leaving hearts captivated every step of the way.

Shakira

While opening up about her past vocal technique, Shakira said she feels like she used to “overdo” her signature yodel on her older songs.

The Colombian superstar appeared on a recent episode of Hot Ones , where host Sean Evans asked what makes her “cringe or wince” when listening to her music from early in her career.

The “Whenever, Wherever” singer, who recently released her 12th studio album  Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran in March, explained why she feels like she’s grown as an artist, including her voice becoming much stronger over the years.

“I noticed that after my pregnancies, my voice got thicker, more rounded, more full,” the Grammy-winning artist said, referring to her two sons, whom she shares with her ex-partner Gerard Piqué. “Also, my choices are more mature. I have evolved as a woman, as a person, my intellect has evolved.”

Earlier in the interview, Evans specifically referenced her recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1 , where the singer said she “used to suck.”

“I feel that my voice keeps changing over the years, and I tell my [sons Milan and Sasha] that,” Shakira said at the time. “I sometimes listen to some music of mine with them. Not on purpose, but it just happens, you know, maybe some song, comes out on the playlist or on the radio or whatever.”

The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer continued, “I say, ‘I used to suck. But, I think I’ve evolved.’ I like myself much better now as an artist, but that’s only me.”
