My partner and I opted for 2x Introductory Dives and a snorkel. All three excursions were professionally run and the staff were very accommodating of all skill levels. Loved the energy of the crew and special shoutout to our host Faye! Read more Written October 8, 2023
  • Jim343 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great Reef Experience Very dissapointed that I did not take up the option to go diving. Previous vists to the reef have left me underwelmed with the dives. However after going snorkelling with the Poseiden Crew I am gfoing back sometime and going for a couple of dives. The marine life was great with plenty to see although you need to get away from the groups or risk collisions. Lunch on board great with plenty of choice to suit everyone. The boat was not crowded and there was room to move around. The crew were very helpful and freindly and run a safe operation. Definitely a great way to see the reef and vist a number of sites. • kirstyp872 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing day on the reef for intro diving I cannot express how much fun this was. My husband and I, having never dived before, did 2 intro dives and Daan and Kevin were outstanding. They were attentive and patient, especially when it counted. The boat had a smaller group size than the larger tours we could book, which was wonderful. This allowed for that personal touch from the crew. If you want to tick this off your bucket list, you can't get a better company. Read more Written March 11, 2023
  • Victoria_Gr_K 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Attentive, friendly staff. And incredible experience The whole experience was seamless from getting the tickets, getting on and off the boat on the water to leaving the trip. The crew in the boat as well as the shop were attentive, friendly and clearly enjoy their job. The ‘snorkelling guided tour’ at the third drop site was good. However I think it could have been a little smaller. Maybe an option to pay extra to have almost a 1:1. Because you’re looking at the wildlife the crew member is talking about you end up with a flipper or two to the face when the person who own the flippers isn’t aware of their surroundings. We did three drop sites. My third was the favourite due to it being quite a high reef so you could almost touch it. My partner’s favourite was the second reef due to all the wildlife. The lunch was delicious, I didn’t indulge as much as I wanted as I was suffering a little motion sickness, but staff were on hand with anti-sickness tablets. When speaking to locals they all said that it is strenuous and tiring. My partner and I are in our 30s and we didn’t find this at all. All in all this has been the best part of our trip in Australia so far. Read more Written March 5, 2023

  • E2820GApauld 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great Reef Diving I took Poseidon the Quicksilver Dive and snorkel boat. Fantastic day at the reef. I was recommended not to go by the Hotel as it was red (weather forecast) day for high swells and winds. It did seem long, but not too bad. When at the reef I did 3 dives. The reef was stunning. I have dived 3 other reefs. I think this is better than Hashtags Reef, the main one visited from Cairns. There are still loads of fish as my first visit 30 years ago. Less giant clams though. Still we saw huge colourful groups of Wrase, Parrot , Angel and many other fish I don’t know. Just one turtle and 2 reef sharks though. Saw humpback whales on route out which was exciting Poseidon have a great dive boat. Gordon and Chris are both good Dive masters, thoroughly checking your equipment and sorting issues quickly. My first regulator had a leak. It was all fixed after the final check, changes reg, refilled bottle, done in under 5 minutes so none of the group were delayed Fantastic day Read more Written July 30, 2020

Where once Poseidon was reputed for the personal experience and its enthusiastic and stable crew members who ensured a great day out, things have changed, for the worse. This was particularly notable on our last two trips (December 2019 & April 2019) where the crew are impersonal, some outright rude, the gear is tired and the culture patronizing. • Adrian13579 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Introductory Dives with Poseidon I did two introductory dives, where each dive was at a different site. Both sites had colorful fish and coral to see, and I also spotted a shark (a little one). There was a third site that we visited, where Poseidon provided us with a complimentary snorkel session which had plenty of different fish, a group of barracudas, and more coral. The crew members were all amazing and full of energy, which contributed to a great experience. All customers were split up into small groups. I was part of a group of 4, which was supervised by Gordon, our dive instructor. He was fantastic in every sense. Gordon taught us all that we needed to know while also entertaining us. Funny guy, knew his stuff, definitely management material! All in, the experience with Poseidon was great. The price was also very reasonable in comparison to the other tour companies. The next time I visit the Reef, I would definitely book with Poseidon again! No need to look elsewhere! Read more Written January 2, 2020

But the staff was super professional and split the group between divers and snorkelers. We were with the snorkelers, as were most of the boat. The boat stops at 3 stops for you to explore and they explain very well what you can expect at each site. I highly recommend this boat and crew. You will not be disappointed. The staff was very helpful and friendly from start to finish. The snorkel and scuba gear was well maintained and clean. It was nice that although 1 of us snorkels and the other does scuba, we still got to spend the day together. Got to see so many cool things under water. The breakfast and lunches provided were simple, yet tasty, and hot drinks were offered throughout. I was shocked how warm the water was and thoroughly enjoyed all 3 dives as we got to see different things at each site. I also appreciate that the boat was not over-crowded and the dive gross we're kept small. Read more Written December 25, 2019

We decided to go on the Poseidon out of Port Douglas. As soon as you get onboard the friendly staff greets you, offers you coffee, tea some muffins and off you go. It takes about an hour and 15 minutes to reach the reef. It is breath taking. 5 different shades of blue the water is. Then you can either go scuba diving if your certified or snorkeling. They give you a nice buffet lunch and snacks throughout the day. You visit 3 different reefs to dive or snorkel in. It was truly memorable. Read more Written December 9, 2019

Poseidon Outer Reef Cruises offers a five star cruise to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Poseidon departs daily from Port Douglas, visiting three spectacular sites on the outer edge of the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs.  The Agincourt Reefs are renowned as being the best reefs accessible in a day trip.  The crystal-clear waters, beautiful corals and incredible fish life found at the Agincourts, 70kl North East of Port Douglas, enables Poseidon to offer the best possible day boat diving and snorkeling.

Poseidon caters to snorkelers, introductory and certified divers.  Divers can enjoy up to three guided dives, using large tanks and dive computers for extended bottom time. The dives include drift dives, wall dives, and isolated pinnacles surrounded by pelagic fish and coral gardens.

Snorkelers can enjoy unrestricted exploration of shallow lagoons and spectacular drop-offs, with an unbelievable variety of fragile corals and colourful fish life.  We offer a Reef Interpretation Talk giving information on the history and ecology of the reef system, followed by a Guided Snorkel Tour where marine life is explained and identified.

Poseidon has limited passenger numbers which offers personal service and individual attention.  Our guests are looked after by highly qualified crew members to ensure there is plenty of help on hand to assist both experienced and beginner divers and snorkelers.

Poseidon has a special permit to swim with Dwarf Minke Whales which visit the northern waters from May to September.

Poseidon offers daily Port Douglas snorkel and dive tours, visiting the Great Barrier Reef’s Agincourt Ribbon Reefs. The comfortable 24m catamaran visits three (3) different reef sites throughout the day, providing guests with just over four (4) hours to explore the reef. The Agincourt Ribbon Reefs are located in open water on the edge of the Continental Shelf, as such, this tour is recommended for confident swimmers (snorkellers) and certified divers. Please note: all dives on this boat are guided and divers will appreciate the large tanks, providing maximum bottom time for air-hungry divers.

Poseidon is operated by the Quicksilver Group. Travel time to the reef is approximately 90-minutes. All briefings are provided on the way to the reef. The two-level catamaran has air-conditioned interior seating and lots of outdoor space, offering covered seating to enjoy the views or sundeck seating. It’s a non-smoking boat and for your comfort, there are two toilets and a freshwater shower on board. Snorkelers have comfortable water-entry from the submerged steps at the back of the boat. Certified divers will either have a tender drop-off (pending site and availability) or giant stride entry off the side of the boat.

Included in the Poseidon day tour is: morning and afternoon tea, cold buffet lunch (including prawns), a guided marine biologist snorkel tour and reef interpretation presentation, snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel, fins and flotation devices if required), lycra suits and courtesy transfers within the Port Douglas area. Transfers are available from Cairns: these are charged in addition to the tour price.

Check-in for Poseidon is at the boat, moored in Port Douglas’ Marina Mirage, from 8.10am. Departure is scheduled for 8.30am and complimentary tea, coffee, muffins and fruit are served on boarding. Welcome, trip, equipment, activity and safety briefings are all provided during the 90-minute transfer out to your first reef destination at the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs.

Poseidon visits three (3) different reef sites during your day tour, giving you just over one (1) hour at each site. The informative reef presentation is provided around mid-morning, while the boat moves to its second site for the day and the cold buffet lunch is served from 12.15pm – 1pm. After lunch the boat moves to its third and final reef site for the day. Thorough headcounts are conducted by the crew before each move. Poseidon packs-up around 2.45pm, getting back into Port Douglas between 4.15-4.30pm.

Poseidon offers certified diving only (NO introductory diving). Divers can choose to do 1, 2 or 3 dives, with one dive being offered at each of the reef sites throughout the day. All diving is guided by the professional dive crew and diving equipment is included in the dive tour price. Packages are available for those with and without their own equipment. Poseidon’s dive tanks are large, offering maximum bottom time. Please note: all divers will be required to complete a medical questionnaire on board, prior to diving.

CERTIFIED DIVING: Certified divers will appreciate the spacious dive deck and large tanks on-board Poseidon. All certified diving is guided and there is one (1) dive offered at each of the three (3) reef sites. Please note: Private dive guides can be arranged / booked at extra cost. The Agincourt Ribbon Reefs offer excellent diving conditions and the best sites will be chosen on the day to maximise your experience. You may do tender drop-offs or giant stride water entry. Dive sites offer wall dives, swim throughs, caves, bommies and more. You will be required to show your Divers License and complete Dive Medical paperwork on board, prior to diving. Equipment and dive site briefings are all provided on board the boat.

Snorkeling:

Poseidon includes a guided marine biologist snorkel tour in their tour price. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Great Barrier Reef and the creatures you are seeing, while you are in the water. There is also a dedicated snorkel crew, who will provide equipment and reef site briefings and assist you throughout the day with any difficulties you may experience. Floatation devices are also provided if required.

The Agincourt Ribbon Reefs are located on the edge of the Continental Shelf, so although the waters are somewhat protected by the reefs themselves, this is a trip recommended for confident swimmers as there may be some current, pending conditions. All snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) is included in the tour price, as is a lycra suit (excellent for sun protection). The Ribbon Reefs rise from the ocean floor to plateau just metres beneath the surface (pending tide and time of day), offering excellent conditions for snorkelers to safely get close to the corals and fish.

With the high instances of (shallow water blackout) companies do not allow this for safety reasons.

Do you have Medical Issues:

Port Douglas Dive & Snorkelling Tour

Visit Three Snorkelling And Scuba Diving Locations in One Day

This popular Port Douglas dive and snorkelling tour offers visitors the ultimate reef trip adventure by taking guests to the best of the best outer Barrier Reef locations in Queensland Australia to maximise your chances to see the best corals and marine and maybe by a rare event swim with Dwarf Minke Whales .

This is not a dedicated swim with whales Great Barrier Reef tour, it is a dedicated diving and snorkelling tour that visits 3 reef sites in one day.

The Skipper has the luxury of choosing the days three reef locations you will visit based on the weather, winds, tides & currents from within the Agincourt Ribbon Reef system to ensure you snorkel and scuba dive some of the world’s best coral and reef systems that are oozing with a multitude of marine life.

We have permits for 30 reef locations permits to choose from.

This really is a highly recommended Port Douglas dive & snorkel tour that explores the northern section of the Great Barrier Reef.

The Agincourt Ribbon Reefs are long narrow reefs located along the very Outer Edge of the Great Barrier Reef, which is flushed out at every tide by clear oceanic water; coral thrives in this clear water, creating spectacular gardens and a huge variety of marine life.

All of the dive and snorkel sites have been selected for both the shallow coral gardens favored by snorkellers and adjacent deeper walls and drop-offs preferred by scuba divers.

Once aboard the reef boat tea and coffee are served and the snorkelling & diving  briefings are done during the trip to the reef to maximise your time in the water.

After a high speed trip we arrived at the first site at approximately 10.00am.

Snorkelling Tours On The Great Barrier Reef from Port Douglas

The best way of seeing and experiencing the magic of the Port Douglas and Cairns Great Barrier Reef is by snorkelling and the majority of visitors choose to snorkel. Our boats crew pride themselves on offering excellent customer service, with a team of dedicated snorkelling instructors to assist your every need.

They also provide in water assistance and floatation devices like pool noodles and floatation vests for those who are beginner snorkellers or a bit frail. A reef interpretation talk is given by a marine naturalist at the second dive and snorkel site explaining the ecology and history of Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

By this time you are generally starving and its here where they serve a tropical buffet of prawns, cold meats, breads and salads (the best potato salad I have ever had.) A guided snorkel tour is offered at the third scuba diving and snorkel site by a marine naturalist and is one activity that should not be missed.

There is one guy that does it called Mr. Fluffy and I'm sure that he has gills and webbed hands and feet. This amphibious man is so knowledgeable on the reef and everyone that comes back from this guided snorkel trip just raves about him.

Scuba Diving On The Port Douglas Great Barrier Reef

For those with scuba diving certification you can enjoy up to 3 guided scuba dives at different outer reef locations. Some of the spectacular scuba diving sites include walls, pinnacles and coral gardens with a fantastic variety of fish and coral life all at the very edge of the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs on Australia's Great Barrier Reef.  All dives are guided at no extra cost and you will be briefed by your dive master on the sites, equipment and safety procedures.

After the third dive and snorkel site they serve afternoon tea consisting of tea and coffee and the yummiest banana cake you have ever had. At 2.45pm MV-Poseidon departs the reef and heads back to Port Douglas where it arrives at the Marina at around 4.30pm.

MV-Poseidon also offers Introductory Diving, so why not give it a go. All diving activities need to be prebooked as there are limited spots available.

Swimming With Dwarf Minke Whales in Port Douglas - Early June to July.

During the winter months of June to July our tropical waters may present the added bonus of sighting Dwarf Minke Whales as these gentle giants migrate to mate and give birth to their young.

Our dive boat has been awarded one of only three permits to   swim with these Dwarf Minke Whales and if they are around on the day you visit the Great Barrier Reef then you just may have the opportunity to hop in the water with your snorkel gear on and interact with these inquisitive whales.

Please note: swimming with whales is at the whale's discretion and not yours. Swimming with the whales is a bonus on this reef trip if they feel playful at the time you are enjoying your Great Barrier Reef tour - This is not a guaranteed activity, as it happens on rare occassions so you have to be very lucky at the time.

We are to abide by very strict guidelines and regulations with this permit and they are not actively allowed to pursue the whales or come within 300 meters of them.

The Dwarf Minke Whales have to be the ones to request the interaction with the boat by swimming over to it and showing interest in the snorkellers that are in the water holding onto a rope that is attached to the boat.

These whales have been known to follow the boat to the next snorkel and diving location so they can get a closer look at the humans in their territory. Ten snorkellers are in the water at one time and change over is every ten minutes so that all guests can have the chance to spend some time swimming with the Dwarf Minke Whales.

This is a diving and snorkelling tour and not a dedicated swim with whales tour.

See this page for swimming with whales .

Humpback Whales On the Cairns-Port Douglas Great Barrier Reef

Whale season is something you just do not want to miss especially when the giant Humpback Whales arrive in search of mates and to calve in the safety of the Cairns and Port Douglas Great Barrier Reef in the months of July to September.

Australia also has a very rare white Albino Humpback Whale that has been named Migaloo and he migrates to Cairns and Port Douglas nearly every single year to the delight of everyone in the tourism industry.

Film crews and photographers from all over the world come to Cairns and Port Douglas to capture his annual migration and antics.

It has also been reported that Migaloo has a son or daughter that is also an Albino and these may be the only two Albino Humpback Whales that have been identified in the world to date.

Please note: Whale season is changeable each year due to water temperatures and currents so the arrivals of whales may vary from one year to the next.

Our vessel was custom-designed to provide uncrowded snorkelling and scuba diving adventures.

The vessel boasts a number of great features including an air-conditioned saloon and open deck so you can kick back and enjoy your day on the reef.

Crew was really friendly and professional. The trip was really nice and we visit some amazing spots around the reef. We booked an intro dive which was just right, crew was not too helpful, thought, as the tanks were really heavy and someone can injure their back getting off the water as they not help you with that. Also I think groups are too big so you can miss some explanations and the education about the reef if you are not next to the guide. They should have more bilingual crew members.

Response From The Tour Specialists

Hi Paula, thanks for your feedback! The Tour Specialists team are pleased you enjoyed your time on the Outer Barrier Reef. Introductory diving can be a little daunting and the gear can be unexpectedly cumbersome but once you are under the water there is nothing quite like it which makes the experience all worthwhile. We will pass on your feedback to the crew however next time you visit please be sure to let us know of your language needs and we can ensure you travel on a day with a crew member who is bi-lingual. We look forward to welcoming you back to Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef soon.

Very professional but fun also. Good food and dive service/gear etc. 3 dives at 3 sites were a bit rushed but you could choose to do 2 if that is a problem. Rating the sites, 1st site 2.5 stars, 2nd site was about 4.5 stars third was 2.5 stars. Lots of bleaching and damage can be seen but still decent vibrant fish life. Very safety conscious also and dive guide was professional without being 'great'. Also this company was best price around to buy this tour.

Thank you Grant for your review of your Great Barrier Reef tour from Port Douglas. Very glad you enjoyed the day and we look forward to seeing you back in Cairns in the near future

I can highly recommend this trip. Staff were absolutely lovely, boat was well-designed, numbers were not too many and three separate sights gave plenty of snorkling time. I would definitely book with Poseidon again. A fantastic day!

Thanks for your feedback Emma. The Tour Specialists are pleased you had a great day on the Southern Ribbon Reef and enjoyed the smaller numbers on your reef cruise from Port Douglas. We hope to see you back again soon - maybe in Winter next time to see the Minke Whales.

Sea was rough but crew remained positive and we still enjoyed snorkel sessions.

We are very glad to hear you made the most of your day and enjoyed your snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. The Agincourt Reef system offers some of the most diverse fish & coral in the region. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back on Poseidon Port Douglas in the future.

On your Great Barrier Reef tour from Port Douglas you will visit 3 reef locations in 1 day, each one will be carefully chosen to give you the best opportunity to see the best and most vibrant parts of the northern section of Australia's Great Barrier Reef.

You will be taken to the coral reef sites that can give the best conditions on the day to ensure great visibility, calmest conditions and the largest marine diversity.

Swim With Whales Licence: permits to swim with Dwarf Minke Whales are very limited, this is one of only 3 boats in Port Douglas with a "swim with whales" licences.

This allows guests to enter the water and hold onto a rope whilst the cute Dwarf Minke Whales come over and swim around and amongst you.

Dwarf Minke Whales are in this region from eary June to July.

Please note:- This is a dedicated diving and snorkelling tour and it is a rare event to swim with the minke whales. You may or may not be lucky on the day. If you wish to swim with minke whales look at these dedicated liveaboard tours.

Humpback Whales migrate annually to calve in the safe waters of the Agincourt Ribbons Reefs during the months of June to August and you may be lucky enough to see them breaching out of the water as you cruise to your diving and snorkelling locations

If you are a little rusty, or have never snorkelled before, then don’t worry.

Experienced snorkelling tour guides are on board to help you and to make you feel comfortable and you may get some tips and hints on snorkelling on this page.

A full briefing will be given before you enter the water and once in, your snorkelling guides can assist you.

If you wish to join a guided snorkelling tour then you can join the tour and enjoy learning about the amazing marine life you are seeing, as you see it.

Remember to bring your dive certification card.

Return Accommodation Coach Transfers

Transfers can be arranged from Cairns & Northern Beaches at an extra cost.

However if you are staying in Port Douglas, they are included on the price.

Check-in at the Poseidon/Quicksilver reservations counter at the Port Douglas Port Douglas Marina between 7.30am and 8.00am.

You will then board the boat at 8.15am for a sharp 8.30am departure, returning to the Port Douglas Marina at 4.15pm.

Snorkelling & Diving Boat

Your Great Baarrier Reef Tour boat Poseidon is a 24 metre, high-speed catamaran and with a top speed of around 30 knots and she will transport you to the outer Great Barrier Reef in comfort and speed.

She has been custom-designed for ease of activities on board with easy access snorkelling platforms (hydraulically lowered), large open deck areas, perfect to laze on under the tropical sun and sip on a drink from the licensed bar.

Snorkelling Port Douglas

The shallow reef lagoons where sunlight is plentiful allows for flourishing coral growth and extensive coral gardens that makes for great snorkelling.

On these corals you will see vibrant fish life sporting an array of amazing colours.

From beginners to advanced there is stunning snorkelling for everyone at all levels.

For beginners the conditions are ideal with clear waters, minimal current and shallow reefs and for the more experienced there are coral pinnacles and steep drop offs.

Between the months of June to July you might be lucky to snorkel with a migrating Dwarf Minke Whale   (this tour has one of the few permits that allow snorkelers to do this).

You will be fully briefed before your snorkelling activity and there will be snorkel guides in the water to assist.

If you wish, you can join a guided snorkel tour where the wonders of the deep will be unravelled.

Understand what coral is and find out about the quirky behaviour of the fish you are seeing.

Scuba Diving Port Douglas

On every diver’s ‘must do’ list is the Great Barrier Reef.

You will be diving the outer Great Barrier Reef on Agincourt reef, a set of ribbon reefs at the northern end of the reef system off of Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest .

There are 16 different dive sites on the Agincourt Ribbon Reef.

Diving on the Great Barrier Reef is ideal for the novice or the more advanced diver.

You will swim past giant clams, meander through coral gardens, cruise with turtles and dive amongst the colourful clouds of basslets and chromis.

Look out in the blue and see shoals of barracuda and passing sharks and rays.

It really is like an aquarium with the crystal clear clarity of the water, no strong currents and comfortable, warm waters (from 22-29 Celcius, 70-80 Fahrenheit).

The maximum dive depth is 18 metres (60ft).

If you don’t have your certification card, it’s no problem, for any PADI certified divers this can possibly be checked online, but just in case make sure you bring it along with you on the day.

See our sister ship Silversonic that also visits 3 reef sites in 1 day and also has a swim with Dwarf Minke Whale licences.

Reef Education and Guided Eco Reef Talk

On your trip out to the Agincourt reef on the outer Great Barrier Reef, you have the chance to learn about the reef and the life on it.

In an eco presentation on board you will learn how the Great Barrier Reef was formed and of the microscopic animals that made it.

You will learn about the bizarre life cycles of the fish and all their quirky natures.

Nothing brings your Great Barrier Reef trip more alive than learning and understanding about the marine life that you will be encountering on your day cruise.

Best Time Of Year To Visit The Reef

snorkeling on the reef

Port Douglas offers a fantastic getaway throughout the year, thanks to its warm tropical climate and a variety of outdoor activities. The region experiences two distinct seasons: the 'wet' and the 'dry', which are often referred to as the 'green' and the 'dry' due to the lush rainforests that surround the area. Don't be discouraged by the 'green season,' as it has its own unique beauty.

The Green Season | December - April The green season typically begins with the first monsoonal rains in December and lasts until April. During this period, 75 to 90% of the annual rainfall occurs, accompanied by high humidity. Average temperatures range from 24°C to 33°C (75°F to 91°F).

The green season is a dramatic and stunning time when the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforests come alive. The rainfall is vital for the rainforest's existence. This period is particularly exciting for nature lovers and photographers as the tropics are at their most beautiful, with waterfalls flowing abundantly.

Great Barrier Reef tours welcome the gentle winds at this time of year. You are more likely to experience a “glass out conditions” in the green season due to the low winds. Glass out conditions offer optimal visibility and make for ideal snorkelling & diving on the reef. The calm waters allow for clear views of the underwater world, making it easier to spot marine life, admire vibrant corals, and appreciate the reef's beauty in its full glory.

The Dry season | May to November The dry season, from May to November, brings lower humidity, clear skies, and pleasant temperatures both day and night. Average winter temperatures range from 19°C to 24°C (66°F to 75°F). Less chance of rain gives visitors more options when planning a Reef Tour. You might even spot whales during their migration on your way to and from the reef.

This period corresponds to the peak tourist season, attracting visitors seeking a respite from the colder southern states. Families, especially during school holidays, are advised to book tour to the reef in advance as we have up to 50% more visitors during this time of year.

We again stop at the Novodevichy Convent, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the other bank of the Moskva River to click pictures.

Then we visit “Sparrow Hills” where you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city of Moscow from the observation deck. Then there are the skyscrapers of Moscow-City, the Kutuzov avenue, the New Arbat, Tverskaya Street, the world-famous Bolshoi Theater, the KGB building and Varvarka Street. Here there are ample spots to click pictures.

We then drive past the Kremlin again and finally reach Red Square. We take a short tour of Red Square and say goodbye in the Alexander Garden.

Metro tour – daily

Palaces for ordinary people – that was what Stalin promised to the people when the construction of the Moscow Metro began between the World Wars. The communist dictator hadn’t promised too much. No other underground system in the world can boast such spectacular architecture – chandeliers, decorations, stucco, paintings on the walls – each station is individually designed. No wonder that Moscow residents love their metro. I will guide you through the bustle of one of the busiest subways in the world and show you the most beautiful stations Moscow city has.

Tour of Communist Moscow – every day

After the Communist October Revolution in 1918, Moscow became the capital of the Soviet Empire and was the center of socialist orbit for more than 70 years. This left its mark on Moscow, even if the USSR disintegrated more than a quarter of a century ago. The city streets are full of remnants of the communist regime and the Cold War. This is a walking tour where I will show you the most exciting places in Soviet Moscow: from the notorious KGB headquarters, also known as Lubyanka to the Karl Marx Monument to small hidden remains from the time of hammer and sickle. You will also learn about Stalin’s Great Terror political campaign and the system of the GULAG and how the USSR, the communist Russian republic, became modern Russia.

Alternative Moscow Tour – daily

Explore the unseen Moscow with your Moscow private guide and discover a range of sights during this alternative walking tour.  Away from the main tourist spots (in the central district of Kitay-Gorod), just a short walk from Red Square and St. Basil’s Cathedral, you suddenly find yourself in one of the trendiest districts of Moscow. This place not only has trendy cafes and green squares, but here you can see the most beautiful spray works (according to Albrecht Dürer), hangout-places of the youth and hipsters, as well as learn what Moscow looked like in the 19th century. Here you will also learn exciting and even bloody stories about famous gangsters, eccentric business people and legends like the wandering preacher Rasputin, who is known in Russia either as the “holy devil” or the mad monk. To learn a little more about Moscow’s culture, this is the tour for you. On my alternative tour, you will get to know Moscow away from the tourist hotspots. This tour is of 2 hours duration and you will experience the following on the tour:

  • St. John’s Hill, a quiet oasis right in the center, where time has stopped as it did in pre-Communist times
  • Khokhlovka Art Center, where Russian hipsters and street artists hang out
  • Samoskvorechye District where you can see beautiful streets and hear stories from old Moscow

Kremlin tour – daily (closed on Thursday)

With its 20 towers and high walls, the Kremlin rises imposingly over Red Square. This world-famous fortress with its area of 28 hectares is home to over 800 years of Russian history. Described as the eighth wonder of the world, this historic fortress complex is the principal symbol of Russia that sits on the banks of the Moscow River. Today the Kremlin still harbors numerous secrets and has palaces and cathedrals, surrounded by Kremlin Wall. The current wall was constructed between the 15 th  and 16 th  centuries, but the original wall was made of wood around the year 1147. The Kremlin Wall became an important symbol of Moscow’s importance in the Russian Empire. This top tourist destination attracts millions of people every year and there are various sights to see. With my Kremlin tour, you will see the oldest square in the city in the heart of the Kremlin, the once largest cannon in the world and the scene of numerous dramas – from Ivan the Terrible and Napoleon to Stalin. You cannot miss this unique experience.
