Ok so I feel really stupid, I spent £130 on BHPC suitcases without researching on the net. They come with combination locks on them (push down locks on the suitcase) and I can't find out if they're TSA locks, im worried that my new cases are going to be broken the first trip I use them. Anyone else got these or can advise me if they are TSA locks please. Major stressed as I leave on Wednesday

Where are you travelling to because you mention in your other posts living in the UK and that you are going to Pakistan this month. Are you actually also travelling to the the USA?

Also don't put anything valuable into your checked bags and just leave them unlocked!! Problem solved

Hmm.. TSA stands for Transportion Security Administration which is an organisation set up in the US after the WTC attacks and has nothing to do with the UK or anywhere else in the world outside the US.

No airports don't routinely break open cases. They would only do this in extreme circumstances. They are routinely x-rayed but not "broken into"

I have a suitcase that came with an in-built TSA-approved lock, first trip out of MSY the lock was destroyed by TSA (there was a TSA search notification inside so I don't think someone else broke the lock). Not sure if it was necessary to destroy the lock to get into the case, but nonetheless it happened. I probably could have reported it or contacted Antler to see if it could be repaired, but I don't like the suitcase that much anyway, so it didn't bother me overly.

The point of all this is, even if the lock is TSA-approved, that doesn't mean it won't be damaged. The zippers on this suitcase still had the loop things to put a lock through so I just bought a TSA approved lock and put that on. If you're concerned, perhaps do that (if possible), even if the lock gets cut off, the suitcase (theoretically) should not be damaged.

In addition any zippered case can be opened with a ball point pen and then re closed without you even knowing it has been opened.

Well it is a moot point since the OP is not going anywhere near the US. Flying from the UK to Pakistan.

Thank you all for your replys, thank you RanaldoC for clearing that up. I just assumed that all airports had the right to unlock your suitcase and search them. I have now found out that Manchester airport actually have 5 levels of security and will call the passenger at level 4 to open the suitcases. So I guess I should be ok just using the suitcase lock :)

Another option is to leave your case unlocked and use a lockable strap/straps around it. If they're broken you only have to repair/replace a strap not a suitcase.
