Disney Cruise Navigator App: Everything You Need to Know

by Eric Freilich | Jan 8, 2024 | Disney Cruise Line

Here’s your guide to using the Disney Cruise Navigator app before you embark.

A Disney Cruise is a magical experience for Disney fans of all ages. What better way to sail the high seas than with your favorite Disney characters? There’s a lot to ‘“sea” and do onboard, and the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app can help you plan and manage your trip, explore offerings on the ship, and stay in touch with your family and friends.

We’ve used the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App on every one of our sailings, and while some features have changed over the years, the app is still a useful – and essential! – tool for cruisers to make sure you don’t miss out on a moment of fun. You’ll rely on the Navigator App before and during your cruise, so you’ll want to get familiar with it well before you actually set sail. Below, we’ve got your guide to using and perusing the app!

Attraction Issue Bundle

Attraction special – haunted mansion, attraction special – jungle cruise, attraction special – pirates of the caribbean, using the disney cruise navigator app before your cruise.

To start using the Disney Cruise Navigator app, download it from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and create a login – or log in with your existing Disney account.

The Disney Cruise Navigator app offers helpful features before your cruise.

As soon as you book your cruise, you’ll see a countdown to your sailing, featuring Disney characters. You’ll also have access to helpful features to manage your cruise, make payments, view and modify your stateroom, and view deck plans.

You can also request to change your dining time, if spots are available, or manage travel options such as ground transportation and flights.

Add your reservation to the DCL Navigator app.

Once your cruise is paid in full and your booking window opens – based upon your Castaway Club stats – you can explore and reserve activities such as adults-only dining experiences .

Using the Disney Cruise Navigator App During Your Cruise

Once you’re aboard the ship, you’ll have access to additional features when connected to the free Wi-Fi ( free when used only for the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app).

Wi-Fi is free when using the app aboard the ship.

The Onboard Chat is an easy way to connect with friends, family, and Crew Members – including Guest Services – all from within the app. You can also view restaurant information such as locations, menus, and your table number. Want to skip a meal to relax in your room? Check out the in-room dining menu right from the app for a sweet treat .

One helpful feature you’ll want to utilize in the Navigator App is the ability to participate in the Mandatory Emergency Drill , or Muster Drill, before you set sail. Just have a member of your party go to your assigned designated onboard Assembly Station and check in with a crew member. This is a welcome change compared to waiting for everyone to arrive and check in before the drill could begin, especially if it was located on deck.

Other features include the ability to review the daily entertainment schedule – you’ll find the details for shows, fireworks, activities, Port Adventures, and character locations – and set reminders so you don’t miss out on a moment of fun .

You can also keep tabs on your onboard account so there aren’t any surprises on your last day as you prepare for debarkation .

The Navigator app is really intuitive

Tips for Using the Disney Cruise Navigator App

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App:

  • Bring a phone charger—or two! You’ll want to keep the app open to receive notifications and reminders. Having a portable charger to carry with you through the day can be a big help; just remember to charge it each night.
  • Make sure you’re connected to the Wi-Fi . You don’t have to purchase an internet plan to use the app, though you will need to pay for Wi-Fi if you intend to work on vacation (boo!) or immediately share photos of your dinner on the ‘Gram.
  • Check for app and software updates before you sail. You won’t want to use part of your paid internet plan to download them during your cruise.
  • Review the app and the Disney Cruise Line Website before you sail for the latest information on availability and features.

The Disney Cruise Navigator App is a must-have when sailing on a Disney Cruise . From ship to shore, it’s the perfect companion for your adventure on the high seas. Learn more about what you can expect when you set sail aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship and keep reading:

Taking a Disney Cruise ? Now there are two ways to stay on top of what's happening on the ship. Every day of your cruise, the paper "Personal Navigator" gives you a stem-to-stern rundown of special events and parties, youth and adult activities, character appearances, and entertainment.

Or you can lose the paper and personalize your trip on your smartphone with the help of the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App. It's available for free for iPhone and Android, and it's a great way to organize your time and make sure you don't miss a thing. Best of all, everyone in your family can download the app and personalize their own shipboard experiences.

How to Get Started

  • Download the app from the Apple App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android.
  • Once onboard, go into your phone's settings and turn on Airplane Mode. This is a smart move even if you don't use the app, because it will turn off your data so you're not smacked with an expensive wireless bill when you get back from your trip.
  • Connect to wi-fi on the DCL-GUEST network.
  • Now you're ready to go. The app is free and only works on the Disney cruise ship.

Keep a Daytimer for Your Disney Cruise

The paper version of the "Personal Navigator" gives you a full day's schedule, but it's not available until the night before. You'll find the next day's "Personal Navigator" in your stateroom when you return in the evening after dinner.

One advantage of the Navigator app is that it gives you an overview of all the events for the entire cruise, so you can jump ahead and see what's coming up. Since it gives you the big picture of all your options—a movie that will be screened multiple times on the same cruise, for example—it's great for those of us who like to plan ahead.

Someone in your family doesn't use a smartphone? Let them have the paper "Personal Navigator" all to themselves.

Get a Big-Picture View of Your Disney Cruise

The app is simple to use and very intuitive. The main menu lets you quickly find what you're looking for.

Keep the Day's Activities at Your Fingertips

It's easy to see all the activities happening on the ship—including when they start and where to go—as well as the scheduled activities during your day on Castaway Cay . You can filter activities by age group, so kids, 'tweens and teens can make sure they don't miss any of the fun events at the Oceaneer Lab, Oceaneer Club, Edge, or Vibe.

When you see an activity or event you like, simply select the heart icon and it will be saved into your personal schedule. Everyone in the family with a smartphone can select their own don't-miss activities and keep his or her own personal schedule.

Chat With Family Members

Keeping tabs on kids is a snap with the chat function, which lets you send and receive text messages with the family members in your stateroom.

Find Favorite Disney Characters in a Flash

One of the wonderful things about taking a Disney Cruise is being able to meet Disney characters in a more intimate setting that you might find at the theme parks.

The Navigator app lets you know where each character has scheduled appearances with an official Disney photographer. You are always free to take personal photos, so don't forget your camera.

Don't Miss a Thing on Your Disney Cruise

Any activities that you've saved by clicking the heart icon will be stored in a handy personalized schedule. On the fence? Go ahead and save it with a heart. If you change your mind later, just deselect the heart and the activity will be removed from your schedule.

You'll get an alert 15 minutes before the activity so you won't miss anything. And since different family members can have their own favorites saved, everyone can do what they like.

Pull Up Deckplans in a Snap

Are your kids begging to go to the AquaDuck ? Can't remember how to get to the Guest Services desk? Finding your way around the ship is a breeze when you have all the deck plans at your fingertips.

Sneak a Peek at Your Dinner Menu

Wondering what's for dinner ? The Navigator app lets you sneak a peek at the dinner menu. Super handy if you've got dietary restrictions, a picky eater, or a big appetite.

Make a Safe and Speedy Exit

The last morning of your cruise can be hectic if you're not organized. The Navigator app gives all the need-to-know info for debarkation day, from packing tips to necessary documentation and post-cruise transportation options.

How to Use the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App

Disney Cruise Line has an awesome app for passengers to download that will help you before, during, and after your sailing! Let’s talk about all the things you can do with the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app so that you can get the most out of it!

BEFORE your cruise , you’ll want to download the Navigator app, sign in to your DCL account, and upload your reservation number. From there, you’ll be able to see your stateroom details (as they become available), view deck plans, make payments, purchase onboard gifts, and take advantage of online check-in! You’ll also find a fun countdown to your cruise that live updates by the second!

disney cruise mobile app

DURING your cruise vacation the app will be your best friend! Don’t worry, the app will work at all times; you do NOT need to purchase an internet package to utilize it. I loved being able to access the daily schedule of all activities anytime I needed; you can literally walk around the ship from one activity to another with the whole day right on your phone! In fact, you can tap on an event and “favorite” it to add it to your plans for the day! It will then show up on your itinerary, and your phone will notify you when it’s time to go! (You must enable notifications for the app if you want to be notified when activities are starting.)

disney cruise mobile app

Another huge perk is being able to preview the dinner menus for each night in advance! I have never been able to do this on any other cruise line! So not only will you get to experience rotational dining through 3 completely different restaurants, but you will also get to check out the different menus ahead of time, as well as the dress code, using the Navigator app.

Other things you can do while onboard include: book shore excursions, purchase internet packages, view menus and drinks of the day, chat with a cast member, host a group chat with friends and family onboard, and book a guest services appointment.

disney cruise mobile app

AFTER your cruise , you can use the Navigator app to view your cruise folio account and pay it off for a short period of time. You can also view future cruise reservation details as well if you already have another trip on the horizon! Definitely make sure you download and set up your account in the app prior to your sailing, it will make your first day at sea that much more relaxing! As per usual, Disney has thought of everything!

Bon Voyage!

Step-By-Step: How to Use Disney Cruise Line Navigator on Board

The Disney Cruise Line Navigator App is essential when you’re on board the ship, as there is no paper listing of daily events. Want to know where you’re having dinner? The app. What the schedule is in the movie theater? The app. How will you contact your teenagers and tell them you’ll be out of reach in the Rainforest Room? The app.

Since you can’t take a spin through the on-board version until you’re, well, on board, take a spin through the overview below. We’ll cover everything from the basics to some pro tips that might even leave your tech-savvy kids asking “Whoa, how did you do that?” By the time you sail, you’ll be an old hand at finding the information you want fast . ( Last updated/republished May 21, 2024.)

Tap any heading below to go directly to that section, and click on any image to enlarge it.

Getting Connected Getting Oriented Making Plans – Where to Find What Dining Information in DCL Navigator Using the DCL Navigator Chat Miscellaneous

Getting Connected

If you run the app at home before your cruise, it works like an app version of the Disney Cruise Line website. But once you get on board, you’ll see a whole new look. In order to access the onboard version of the app, you must be connected to the DCL Guest Wifi, available on the ship. It is free to connect and you do not need to buy an internet package to use the app or any of its features.

On land, you log in to the app with the same credentials you use on the Disney Cruise Line website, but on board, you won’t log in at all. Instead, you’ll link your stateroom. This allows everyone in your group to use the app whether they have a website login or not. The steps below may vary a bit, but the screenshots should be typical. Once you’re connected to DCL Guest WiFi, open the app, tap “Link Your Stateroom”, and follow the prompts.

The screen shows a notice that you are connected to DCL-GUEST, along with a warning that to access apps other than the Navigator or surf the internet, you must buy an internet package

Although the text says to link your stateroom , you’re really setting up the app for an individual user. If you and your partner (or kids) link to the same stateroom number, you’ll have different chat IDs based on the personal information you gave.

Did one of your kids accidentally link on their phone using your info, and now their phone thinks they’re you in the chat?  No worries — look on the bottom right for “More” and select it, then choose “Help”, then “About this app”.  You’ll see a link to reset the app, after which you can relink it correctly.

Getting Oriented

When you first open the app, you’ll be on the Home Screen. How do you know it’s the Home Screen?  On the bottom of the screen is a menu bar; the icons light up to indicate which area you’re currently using. If you’ve used any of Disney’s parks apps such as My Disney Experience or the Disneyland app, this interface will feel a little familiar. Here’s what you’ll find when tapping any of these icons:

disney cruise mobile app

  • Home: rapid access to the first few items in your plans, plus the day’s itinerary information for the ship
  • Explore: all the available activities — if it’s on the ship’s activity schedule, you’ll find it here, plus shopping and more
  • Add Plans:  The big plus sign is a shortcut to activities you need to pre-book.
  • My Plans: This is the full blow-by-blow of everything in — you guessed it — your plans.  See your whole trip in one place.
  • More: Access to a variety of miscellaneous features: view your bill, muster information, etc.

disney cruise mobile app

Making Plans – Where to Find What

Today’s ship information.

Clicking Today’s Itinerary on the Home Screen gives you the big picture – weather, what the ship is doing that day, etc. If it’s a port day this is where you’ll find the All Ashore and All Aboard times, as well as information about Emergency Contacts and the Ship’s Agent if you have a problem when you’re ashore. If you’re going ashore, I recommend taking a screenshot of the Contact Information screen to guarantee you have access to these numbers no matter what the internet situation is.

disney cruise mobile app

Find Your Plans Under “My Plans”

The “My Plans” screen is the way to see all of your plans for the day (or for other days), and you’ll get notifications 15 minutes in advance for anything that’s in “My Plans”. When you first board, you’ll see three kinds of activities in pre-loaded into this screen.

  • You’ll always see your assigned dining rotation for the day.
  • You’ll see anything you pre-booked or reserved such as specialty dining or port adventures.
  • “Signature Events” – usually the ship’s evening stage shows – will be added automatically, but can be removed if you don’t want to include them.

The rest of the ship’s daily activities – crafts, trivia, etc. – will be found in the Explore screen. Tap the heart to add any activity so that it appears in the Your Plans tab. Want to take it off later when reviewing your plans? Just tap again to unselect it. These favorites are specific to you, so if some family members are excited about the midnight movie and others are more interested in Rise ‘n’ Shine Yoga, everyone will see only the things they’ve added.

A list of activities is shown and an arrow points to the heart at the top right of an activity listing

Activities – the Explore Screen

If you want to go beyond the activities that are automatically added to your plans, you’ll want to head to the Explore tab. Disney has worked hard to expose a lot of information in this screen so don’t be afraid to tap, tap, tap. Want to see movie schedules? There are at least four different ways to access them. When you first open the Explore tab, there are a few settings that you’ll want to be aware of.

How to see activities for a different date in DCL Navigator app

  • Tapping the Date allows you to switch and see activities for a different day.
  • The Filter lets you select activities based on specific criteria like age range or activity type.
  • The left-right slider that starts with “Daily Activities” lets you quickly move back and forth between categories
  • The little ship on the top left can be used to access deck plans.

For more on how to get the most out of the Explore screen and easily plan your day’s activities, see  Plan Your Day With the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App .

Dining information is found all over the app. On the Explore tab, the Dining & Lounges slider section shows you hours for all the dining venues.  You can see which rotational restaurant is serving lunch, and what time Cabanas is open. Clicking any eatery brings up the menu. Just for you, you can see your rotational dining assignment on the Home screen or the My Plans tab, and you can click to bring up the menu.  Want to see your dining schedule for the whole cruise? You’ll find that on the More tab.

disney cruise mobile app

The chat feature of the Navigator app is accessed by tapping the little chat bubble that is visible on many (but not all) screens. If you have new messages, the bubble will have a red dot and a number to show how many new messages you have. The chat bubble will only show when you’re scrolled all the way to the top of the screen.

If you’ve texted on your phone before, you can use the chat in the Navigator, but there are a few things that are worth a callout. First, people in your cabin will automatically be shown in your chat list.  Want to talk to anyone else?  You’ll need to supply them with your Chat ID, visible above your name, in order to get the conversation going.

A screen shows several places that you can get information including your chat ID and editable name

⭐ You can click the little pencil to the right of your name to change how it is shown in chat, to you and your chat partners. Having your kids change their screen names can be a good way to keep some privacy for your family as they accumulate a long list of chat friends in Edge and Vibe. (Changes are retroactive). Even if you don’t care about privacy, you can still count coup on your kids by changing screen name before they do theirs. Who says parents can’t be tech-savvy?

⭐ To get alerts when someone messages you, make sure that your phone is set to allow notifications from the app. But this still doesn’t always work properly. If you’re waiting for a message, you might want to launch the app and check every now and then.

⭐ Swiping left on a chat thread offers options for blocking contacts or leaving the chat, depending on whether it’s an individual or group thread. You can also clear the previous messages, or get more details about participants.

⭐ If you had a pop-up message when you first opened Navigator for the day and dismissed it, you can still find it here by switching from Conversations to Notifications.

Miscellaneous

Here’s a quick list of where to find …

  • Your account balance: More tab, then My Charges (you can also download a copy of your Folio online after your cruise).
  • Change your purchasing pin: More tab, then My Account; you may need to visit Guest Services to do this in person
  • Book a placeholder cruise: you can do this two ways (because Disney is always happy to take your booking for a future cruise).  Either begin from the Home screen, just under the ship image, or from the More screen: 10% off a future cruise.
  • Weather: Tap Today’s Itinerary from the Home Screen
  • Your full dining rotation: More screen, then Dining Schedule
  • Your muster station: More screen, then Emergency Assembly Station; you can also find this on your Key to the World card.

What an amazing resource. I’m truly grateful! This will be our inaugural Disney Cruise Line vacation, and I can’t wait to wow the kids.

What a fantastic tool, I really appreciate it, Jennifer. This will be our first Disney Cruise Line vacation, so I’m looking forward to impressing the kids.

Jennifer Heymont, thank you for the information. While onboard, is there the best way to record the DCL Navigator pages for each day? Is there a way for DCL Guest Services to print the same information? I’ve seen another website called disney cruise blog post hard copies and phone-recorded copies of the ship’s daily navigators. I prefer reading their hard copy. Any suggestions?

Hi Ray, the printed Navigators that you’ve seen copies of on other blogs had already started to be phased out before COVID; they were still available on request but no longer delivered automatically. When sailings returned after a year+ hiatus during COVID, printed Navigators were not offered at all. As recently as September of last year, Disney’s official answer is that there is no printed schedule and you should use the app. ( https://plandisney.disney.go.com/question/hard-copies-daily-navigator-brought-back-found-app-518562/ ). But I have heard that guests are sometimes able to have Guest Services print out a schedule for them. This may depend on how busy they are, etc., etc. – your mileage may vary.

One thing I can suggest: when we sailed with a printed Navigator we never carried it with us, just used it in the room to plan our day. That’s actually one thing I prefer with the app, that I can always have it with me without “taking it away” from anyone else in my family who might want to use it. If you’re comfortable in this “room only resource” mode and you have an iPad or other tablet, the app displays a lot more information per screen on those devices (just because they’re larger) and sometimes it’s easier to use. The downside is that you can only be logged in on one device at a time; if you sign in to the app on an iPad it will log you out on the phone – or at least, that’s what happened to me when I tried it.

What an awesome resource, thank you Jennifer! First time DCL cruising family and I love the idea of showing off to the kids when we get on board, LOL.

Just a question – can we view our photos taken on the app too? For the package?

Hi Melissa, here’s hoping your kids are suitably impressed! 🙂

To answer your question, no – at least not when I was last on board. I’m not sure when your cruise is, but our cruise expert Erin may have an article coming out in the next few months on what you need to know about the DCL onboard photos. Whether or not you see it before you go, have a great trip!

Is it possible to use the app without paying for any internet service at all and yet have access to all of its features?

Hello, you’ll be connected to the DCL Guest WiFi, which is like a little mini-network that belongs to the ship. The WiFi network can connect to the internet, but you don’t need to. The app runs on the WiFi, which means that you don’t need to access the internet to use it, and as far as I’m aware there are no paid features in the app. Once you’ve paid to get on the ship, you’re good to go!

Can you access all of the app features without paying for any internet?

Hi Laura – yes, you can. I’ll put that in the post, actually, thanks for flagging that!

Disney Cruise Online Check In Process Explained

Mickey statue on Disney Magic

Are you looking for tips and information on navigating the Disney cruise check in process? The Disney Cruise Line Navigator App really comes in handy while sailing, but it also simplifies the registration and planning process before your trip even begins!

In addition to displaying the really exciting cruise countdown, the DCL Navigator App allows you to view the details of your reservation and book activities for your upcoming Disney cruise.

In this post, I will walk you through the Disney Cruise Line online check in process using the features of the Navigator App. We will discuss what time online check in begins, and I’ll give you tips on how to secure an early port arrival time along with coveted reservations.

So, continue reading below to find out all the tips and hacks you need to know for the Disney Cruise Line online check in process!

Disney Cruise Countdown

Once you download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App, you will be prompted to login to your DCL account. This is where you can create an account or type in your current login information.

Disney Cruise Line Navigator App Countdown Screen

The screen should then display the reservation for your upcoming cruise. After clicking on your reservation, you will see a countdown calculator similar to the one pictured above.

This countdown is a super exciting reminder of how many days you have until your cruise. It’s also a really important feature since some important deadlines occur before your cruise embarkation day .

When can you check in?

While on the Disney Cruise Navigator App, you can scroll down below your stateroom information to find the important steps you need to take for planning your Disney cruise. We will go through each of these My Reservations sections below:

My Reservations

In the spot labeled Cruise Essentials , you will find important things like your Disney Cruise Line balance and your reservation information. You will also see the online check in button in this section.

If you are a first time cruiser with Disney Cruise Line, you may check in 30 days prior to your sail date as long as you’ve made your final payment. If you have previously sailed with Disney Cruise Line, the check in days for each Castaway Club level are as follows:

  • Silver Members – 33 Days before Sailing
  • Gold Members – 35 Days before Sailing
  • Platinum Members – 38 Days before Sailing
  • Pearl Members – 40 Days before Sailing

What time does Disney cruise online check in start?

Once you arrive at the 30-day mark before your scheduled cruise (or sooner depending on Castaway Club level), you may be wondering what time you can actually complete online check-in for your Disney Cruise Line vacation. Online check-in should open at midnight EST (12:00 am Eastern Standard Time).

What do you need for online check in?

When you are ready to fully complete the Disney cruise check in process, you’ll need to have several items on hand. Below, I will list each of these so that you are prepared once your online check in window opens up.

First, you will need to have your official identification documents handy. We highly recommend cruising with a passport even if it is not necessarily mandated for your itinerary.

two passports on map of Europe

Even though many cruises sailing from the United States and back allow U.S. citizens to travel with a birth certificate instead, you will need a passport in the rare (but possible) event you have a medical emergency overseas.

To view a full list of the travel documents required for your sailing, you can check out the DCL website here . During the Disney cruise online check in process, you will need to submit a photo of each passport/birth certificate. Each image should be free from glares and clearly show the information.

Credit Card

You’ll need to assign a credit card to your Disney Cruise Line account. This is the card that you will use onboard when charging things through your Key to the World Card or DisneyBand+. If you need to change the card once onboard, you can visit Guest Services for help.

Flight and Hotel Information

Disney Cruise Line will request that you fill in your pre and post cruise travel information. So, you will want to have your reservation info. for flights and hotels handy to type in.

Photo of Each Passenger

Disney Cruise Line used to take photos of cruisers at the port during your cruise terminal check in process. However, you now need to upload a photo of each person in your travel party. These selfie style photos need to clearly show each passenger’s face above the shoulders in a similar style to a passport or driver’s license photo. (Although, they should not be the same photo that is on your ID.)

Disney Cruise Check in Process

When you are ready to fully complete the Disney cruise check in process, you’ll want to set aside close to an hour (if it’s your first cruise) to give yourself enough time to cover all the parts. I will go over each section of the tedious online check-in process below.

Once your window opens up for checking in, your Navigator App screen will include different sections like Guest Information, Onboard Account, Travel Plans, Port Arrival Time, etc.

Disney Cruise Navigator App- online check-in

You will need to go through each of the tabs to fill out the relevant information. While this can be a time consuming process; once you complete it, Disney saves your information for your next cruise.

I will explain each section in more detail below:

Guest Information

This is the section where you fill in your personal information and your passport/identification info. If you have previously sailed with Disney Cruise Line, this should already be completed for you. If your contact information or your passport information has changed from what is shown on your account, you will need to update it.

↓↓ Visit My Etsy Shop ↓↓

Disney Cruise Planner

Guests also need to upload a security photo (personal selfie) for each individual in your travel party. In addition, Disney Cruise Line requires guests to upload photos of their citizenship documents (birth certificate, passport, etc.).

Onboard Account

You will need to add a credit card to the Onboard Account section. While on the cruise, DCL charges gratuities and anything extra you choose to purchase to your online account. In this section, you can also choose whether or not to grant charging privileges to your family members.

Mastercard, Visa, and American Express cards

Since my kids were 6 and 1 during our last sailing, they were not allowed to charge anything to the onboard account. If you have older kids, you can change this option to meet your needs.

Travel Plans

The Travel Plans tab asks for very specific information about your pre/post cruise plans. This includes the name of your hotel, flight information, etc. You can fill this out to the best of your ability during the check-in process. If you don’t yet have all of this information, you can always go back later and correct it. For example, you can choose to arrive by car if you don’t have your flight information yet.

Port Arrival Time (PAT)

Next, you will choose your Port Arrival Time. Once you click on this tab, you will see a list of times available for you to ARRIVE at the port. This is NOT the time that you will board the ship.

For example, if you select a Port Arrival Time of 11:00, that means you plan to show up at the cruise terminal at 11:00. It has been my experience that boarding does not typically begin until at least 11:30, so you shouldn’t expect to be on the ship immediately after arriving for your 11:00 PAT.

Goofy at Disney Cruise Line Terminal

It’s also been our experience that if you purchased Disney Cruise Line ground transportation , you will not be prompted to choose an arrival time. Instead, you will be permitted to enter the cruise terminal once the DCL transfer shuttle drops you off at the port.

Cruise Contract and Port Arrival Form

Once you have completed online check in for your Disney cruise, you will be prompted to review the cruise contract. Then, your last step is to print the Port Arrival Form in the bottom tab. You will need this form on embarkation day when you arrive at the cruise terminal.

Note that you can save the Port Arrival Form QR Code to scan on your phone at the port. However, we like to also have a printed copy of the form and prefer to print it as well.

The Port Arrival Form now shows your Muster Station and Boarding Number. (In the past, you did not get this information until you received your Key to the World card in the terminal.)

After choosing your PAT, you can register your child for the kids club appropriate for his/her age. You may also note special needs or dietary restrictions for your child in this section. Additionally, you will need to choose who your child is permitted to disembark the cruise ship with.

beach at Castaway Cay

Children are not allowed to get off the ship without an adult. However, there may be an adult in a different stateroom with whom your child is permitted to debark. For example, you can choose to allow your child to get off the ship with a grandparent staying in a different stateroom. You may choose to allow this at EVERY port, at just Castaway Cay, or not at all.

More App Features

In addition to the check in process for Disney Cruise Line that we discussed above, the Navigator App is a great resource for additional trip information and tasks.

Cruise Options

In this section of your account, you will see some of the options that were available for you to choose during your Disney cruise booking. This includes your dinner seating time, trip insurance, Disney cruise ground transfers, and special requests.

Disney Cruise Line main dining room

Note that if you are not happy with your dining time, you can call Disney Cruise Line to ask the cast members to move you to a different seating. If you booked through a travel agent, the agent will need to call to do this. Additionally, you can regularly check the app to see if a more desired seating opens up.

Finally, you can often switch seating times onboard the ship by meeting with crew members in the dining room during the specified changing time. You can find more information in my post: Disney Cruise Dining Rotation Explained .

The next section of your Navigator App displays the itinerary for the cruise you booked. This is where you will see your cruise broken down by day. Some of the important events available onboard will be listed here.

screen shot of Disney Cruise Navigator App

Once you book your activities, you will see them listed in this section as well. You can also click on the Add Activities button on your itinerary to add certain items to your plans.

Disney Cruise Onboard Activities Booking

If you are a first-time cruiser with Disney Cruise Line , you can book some of your cruise activities 75 days before sailing. Under your cruise itinerary on the Navigator App, you will see a section that looks like this:

screen shot of Disney Cruise Navigator App Cruise Activities

You can click on each of the categories listed to book cruise activities offered. I will walk you through each of these below.

Disney Port Adventures

When you click on the section for port adventures (aka shore excursions), you will again see your cruise itinerary. Here, you can click on the ports you are scheduled to visit on your cruise. The app then takes you to a page that lists all of the available Disney port adventures at that location.

disney cruise ship with text overlay disney cruise online check in using the navigator app

For example, if your cruise is visiting Castaway Cay , you will see excursions like bicycle rentals, parasailing, fly fishing, etc. After clicking on the port adventure that you want, you will be able to choose the family members that want to take part in that excursion.

Most of the options for port adventures have age restrictions. If you are cruising with a toddler , your available excursions will be narrowed down quite a bit.

Grand Cayman-Seven Mile Beach

The age restrictions are prominently displayed, and you won’t be able to click on the name of any family member not meeting the requirements. Next, you will see the available times for the excursion that you want to select. Choose the time that works best for you, and you’re finished!

Disney Spa & Fitness

When you click on the Spa & Fitness tab, you will be directed to your cruise itinerary. You can then select the day that you would like to book a fitness and spa appointments. Disney Cruise Line offers many activities in this section including facials, massages, manicures, personal training, etc.

Just like the section above, you can choose the activity and time that works best for you! It’s important to note that these appointments come with an additional cost and are not included with your cruise fare.

Onboard Fun

Under Onboard Fun in the Disney Cruise Ling Navigator App, you will find activities like wine tasting, Royal Tea, and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

The princess meet and greet and the Frozen Gathering are also located in this section. These two events are free on your Disney cruise, but you must book a time to attend the character meet and greets because they are so popular.

screen shot of Disney Cruise Navigator App Frozen Gathering activity

After clicking on the activity, it’s super simple to choose a day and available time to attend the event. It will then show up in the itinerary section of the app.

When you get on the ship, you just show up at the meet and greet during your scheduled time slot. The cast member at the character meet should have your name on the list.

Adult Dining and Nursery Times

These two sections work the same way as the above activities. Here, you can select the date that is appealing to you. You will then be directed to choose a time for your specified activity, but you should note that you do not pay ahead of time. So, once you book your appointment, it should show up on your itinerary without any further steps.

Final Thoughts on the Disney Cruise Online Check-In Process

The Disney Cruise Line Navigator App and the Disney Cruise Line website are really helpful tools to use for online check-in. Whether your travel plans include leaving from Port Canaveral, Miami, or another cruise port, the Disney cruise online check in system works the same.

The only difference you may find is that port arrival times can vary depending on the port you are sailing from. We highly suggest downloading the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App prior to online check in since it allows you to easily access your reservation and book cruise activities.

ship and character with text overlay Disney Cruise Check In Process

Once you are on the cruise ship, the Navigator App has even more helpful features, including texting! Once you complete each section in the app as described above, you should see a message that your checkin is pending .

Disney Cruise Line will review the information you entered along with your uploaded documents before confirming that your checkin is complete. You will then be ready to set sail to enjoy your cruise vacation.

We hope you have a magical time onboard the cruise ship and at your ports of call!

Disney Cruise to Grand Cayman (Excursion Mistakes to Avoid)

Disney Cruise to Grand Cayman (Excursion Mistakes to Avoid)

Thank you for such detailed information! I have two rooms to get checked in…do you think I could do both at the same time, just on two different devices? Also, if I leave travel info blank to start (to fill back in later) would I be able to still get a PAT?

I have never checked in for multiple rooms with Disney Cruise Line, but I linked my two rooms on a different cruise line in order check in for both. I just had to toggle back and forth between the two rooms. You will need to fill out the travel info in order to advance to the next page. But, I would fill out the least amount of info as possible in order to advance. Then, I would go back later and correct it all. For example, you could choose the cash option instead of typing in credit card information. And you could select arriving by car rather than typing out all of your flight information. Just don’t forget to go back and update information later. Have a great trip!

Unexpected Disney World Closure Looms: All Visitors Warned via Mobile Alerts

People stand and take photos in front of a grand building adorned with a clock and ornamental details. The sky is partly cloudy, and some trees and manicured gardens are visible around the building. A woman in a wheelchair engages with another person in the foreground, reminiscent of scenes at Disney World.

If you are visiting Walt Disney World at the moment, you likely just received a warning on your phone that could have severe implications on the rest of your vacation.

A fantastical castle with blue and gold spires stands against a backdrop of ominous, stormy clouds, reminiscent of a scene straight out of a Disney fairytale. In the foreground, a large yellow road sign reads "BAD WEATHER AHEAD.

Tropical Storm Debby is projected to intensify into a hurricane overnight Sunday before making landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region around sunrise Monday morning.

As of Sunday morning, hurricane-force winds ranging from 74 to 95 mph are expected in areas under a Hurricane Warning in the Big Bend region. Much of the Florida Peninsula’s west coast is under a Tropical Storm Warning, with anticipated winds of 39 to 73 mph.

The storm entered the Gulf of Mexico off the southwest coast of Florida on Saturday afternoon.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 140 miles from the center, triggering tornado warnings in southwest Florida as storm bands move onshore.

Numerous Florida counties are under a tornado watch, including Orange, Lake, Marion, Flagler, Osceola, Polk, Volusia, Seminole, and Sumter counties. A tornado warning has been issued for southwest Polk County.

In its 11 a.m. advisory Sunday, the NHC stated that Debby is likely to strengthen rapidly before making landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region, posing a significant flood threat to the southeastern United States.

Florida National Guard members have been advised to prepare for search-and-rescue missions once Tropical Storm Debby makes landfall on Monday, according to Governor Ron DeSantis.

Widespread flooding is anticipated in the Florida Panhandle region, especially in the Big Bend area where Debby is expected to make landfall Monday morning as a Category 1 hurricane, DeSantis said during a news conference Sunday morning.

Florida residents in the Big Bend region of the Panhandle were warned Sunday that Debby will bring “catastrophic rain to the area,” causing flooding and power outages.

An image of the Tower of Terror, a gloomy, haunted-looking building, illuminated by a neon sign under a stormy sky with a lightning bolt striking.

Governor Ron DeSantis urged residents of the state’s Panhandle region on Sunday to finalize their preparations for Tropical Storm Debby’s anticipated landfall Monday morning as a Category 1 hurricane.

“This storm is potentially dangerous. Residents should be completing all of their preparations now,” DeSantis said during a news conference at the state’s Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee.

Orlando International Airport has already canceled 134 flights at the time of this article’s publishing, which will likely be a number that will continue to climb.

Now, all Disney World guests in the Orlando area have likely had to look down at their phones as an alert sounded across the city.

NWS Tornado shared, “A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Florida and Georgia until 8 PM EDT”

As someone who lives minutes away from the theme park, I can say that I had multiple weather apps send a notification to my phone telling me that there is now a Tornado Watch in my area, which would mean that any Disney World guest with a phone and their location turned on would have received the same.

Eric Burris also shared, “NEW: Tornado Watch has been posted for just about all of Central Florida through 8pm… This is as expected- as more and more shear work into our area, brief spin up tornadoes are possible…”

At the moment, Walt Disney World Resort has not altered their operating hours for Magic Kingdom , Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, or EPCOT. It is likely that we will see a lot of temporary closures as the day goes on due to thunderstorms, which will permanently shut down outdoor attractions until it is safe to reopen, but the parks are not set to shut down at the moment.

storm at walt disney world lightning striking cinderella castle

There have been rare instances in the past where Disney opened its theme parks, but as the day went on, due to weather, Disney had to shut them down and remove all guests from the parks. If that does happen, cast members are trained to help, and all guests staying at a Disney resort will be safe.

Universal Orlando Resort is also in full operation and is monitoring the ongoing weather.

Bush Gardens Tampa Bay, on the other hand, has closed down for the day.

Inside the Magic will keep you updated on all theme park operations as the storm continues.

Nearly 2,000 US flights canceled as Tropical Storm Debby looms; cruises changed

Portrait of Nathan Diller

Flight cancellations mounted in the U.S. on Sunday as Tropical Storm Debby neared Florida. The storm is expected to make landfall as a hurricane on Monday.

Nearly 2,000 flights had been canceled and close to 6,300 were delayed as of 5 p.m. ET, according to flight tracking site FlightAware . American Airlines and JetBlue saw the highest cancellation numbers among major carriers, both scrapping 17% of their schedules.

The following airlines are issuing waivers related to the weather, allowing impacted travelers to change their flights without penalty:

  • Delta Air Lines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • Spirit Airlines
  • United Airlines

Passengers are entitled to refunds if their flights are canceled, according to Department of Transportation rules.

Cruises adjust itineraries

Flights weren’t the only kind of travel impacted. Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Elation rescheduled its return to Jacksonville for Sunday, rather than Monday as planned. The ship departed from the Florida city for a Bahamas cruise on Thursday, according to CruiseMapper .

Was your cruise itinerary changed?: Here's what to do next

“The safety of our guests and crew is our priority, and we are continuing to monitor forecasts and factor in guidance from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard and the local port authorities to provide timely updates to our guests as more information becomes available,” the cruise line said in an emailed statement.

Royal Caribbean International’s Symphony of the Seas also skipped a planned stop at Port Canaveral on Sunday, spending the day at sea instead, parent company Royal Caribbean Group said. The ship is on a week-long Bahamas cruise that left from Bayonne, New Jersey, on Friday.

Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Sky ship changed course, as well, visiting Nassau in place of Great Stirrup Cay on Sunday. The vessel, which left from Miami on Friday, also skipped a planned stop in Key West on Saturday, remaining at sea instead.

"As always, the health and safety of our guests and crew remains a top priority," the cruise line said in an emailed statement.

Margaritaville at Sea's Islander ship , which was scheduled to depart on a cruise to Key West and Cozumel, Mexico, on Sunday, will now leave on Monday because of closed waterways at Port Tampa Bay. The vessel will skip the stop in Key West as a result.

Disney may have a parks problem

disney cruise mobile app

By Ramishah Maruf, CNN

New York (CNN) — Disney Parks are the latest business to face slowing consumer demand in the face of higher prices .

Disney’s parks business underperformed expectations and profit fell somewhat last quarter. Although the company said attendance remained steady and people were spending more, it also acknowledged a slumping economy was weighing on travelers who had once buoyed the company while its movie and streaming business was struggling.

While many Americans have pulled back on everyday purchases such as fast food , they still choose to spend on travel and leisure . But consumers forgoing vacations could be a worrying sign for the economy as the job market’s luster fades: Last month, the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.3%, nearly a percentage point higher than it was at the start of the year.

It’s not just Disney that’s seeing a pullback — Bank of America Institute reported credit card transactions on travel ticked down in June. Researchers attributed that to price decreases, though, and said “the underlying picture for travel remains robust.”

Inflation also helped drive the decrease in income at Disney’s domestic parks, and new technology and rides ate into profit, according to the company.

Even with higher prices, people are reluctant to cancel vacations, especially with a company that has brand recognition as strong as Disney’s, CFO Hugh Johnston said Wednesday on the company’s earnings call.

“While we saw a slight moderation in demand, I certainly wouldn’t call it a significant change,” Johnston said. “I don’t think I’d refer to it as protracted but just a couple of quarters of likely similar results.”

Disney’s park issues come on the heels of disastrous Airbnb earnings, which sent the home rental company’s shares tumbling Tuesday after it reported slowing demand from US consumers.

Disney’s domestic parks and international parks and cruises, though, are seeing different results: Disney’s international parks had increases in attendance and more rooms booked. Guests are also spending more at the parks. The company noted that attendance at the parks was comparable to this time last year and spending per guest was up.

“The lower income consumer is feeling a little bit of stress. The high-income consumer is traveling internationally,” Johnston said on the call.

Marriott also reported stronger results at its luxury resorts compared to its cheaper chain hotels.

A bright spot for Disney

Disney’s streaming service turned a profit for the first time, a feat which only Netflix has been able to achieve consistently. The media giant announced price hikes across the board for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ on Tuesday.

The company’s entertainment business has also rebounded from the Covid era, when customers weren’t visiting movie theaters.

“We’ve returned ourselves to the standard of excellence that we had when we were producing multiple billion dollar films per year, and we had the three biggest films in the biggest film in May, biggest film in June and biggest film in July,” Johnston said on CNBC Wednesday.

7 best Mexico cruises for 2025 and 2026

Melinda Crow

Cruises to Mexico have an appeal that's hard to match.

Pacific Coast itineraries cover both Baja California (with stops in Ensenada) and the area farther south considered the Mexican Riviera (featuring the ports of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta). Where else can you spend the morning whale watching from a small boat, followed by an afternoon of shopping or enjoying authentic Mexican cuisine?

The ports on Mexico's eastern coast are often lumped together with other Central American ports or island destinations on Western Caribbean cruises . Do a bit of digging, and you can find three- to five-night cruises from Galveston, Texas; New Orleans; and Mobile, Alabama, that visit only Mexican ports, including Cozumel, Costa Maya and Progreso.

Beaches and water sports, as well as eating and drinking, are the primary attractions on cruises to Mexico. Both coasts offer ample opportunity to play in the sun and sand. The best Mexico cruises have lengthy port stops that provide plenty of time to explore, plus time on board the ship to relax and decompress.

You might even be able to cruise to Mexico without a passport if your cruise begins and ends in the same U.S. port.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

So, what's the best cruise to Mexico? Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line run year-round cruises from the Los Angeles area and Galveston ports, while Princess Cruises, Holland America , Norwegian Cruise Line , Celebrity Cruises and Disney Cruise Line offer seasonal cruises to Mexico from the West Coast.

Occasionally, you can find luxury cruises to the Mexican Riviera on lines Regent Seven Seas . Lindblad Expeditions and UnCruise Adventures offer nature-oriented small-ship opportunities in Baja California.

We scoured all the options and came up with the best Mexico cruises to help narrow your choices. Here's what we found.

3-night Baja cruise on Carnival Radiance

disney cruise mobile app

Carnival Radiance gets the nod for having a year-round schedule of short escapes to Mexico.

Carnival Cruise Line 's west coast Mexico cruises sail from the port of Long Beach, which is a fun destination in its own right, with beaches, water sports and the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Carnival Radiance (formerly Carnival Victory) underwent a complete refit in 2021, adding a dedicated comedy club, top-deck water attractions and the first-ever chicken joint from Shaquille O'Neal, aptly named Big Chicken .

The ship goes to Ensenada and back with one fun day at sea. Water sports and whale watching in winter are among the top activities in Ensenada for Carnival cruisers. For a local lunch in port, order fish tacos; Ensenada claims to have invented the dish. Some also claim Ensenada is the original home of the margarita. Drink enough of those, and it won't matter if it's true or not. If margaritas aren't your thing, there are popular wineries in port worth checking out.

You can also cruise this route on Carnival Firenze , one of Carnival's two "Fun Italian Style" ships (adopted from sister cruise line Costa). However, that ship mainly sails four- and five-night itineraries from Long Beach.

Who should go : It's no secret that Carnival's Fun Ships are known as party ships. This short hop to Mexico is ideal for residents of the Western states looking for an escape any time of year. The ship's atmosphere is enthusiastic and fun, which spills into Ensenada on the single port day of the cruise.

4-night Baja cruise with Catalina Island on Disney Wonder

disney cruise mobile app

Disney Wonder is one of Disney Cruise Line 's oldest and smallest ships, carrying only 2,700 passengers. However, it's packed with Disney adventures, including a musical stage production of "Frozen," character meet-ups and the most family-friendly cabins at sea. Wonder sails to Mexico from San Diego during the fall and winter.

Not every four-night cruise on Wonder includes Catalina Island, but if you can snag one that does, it's a huge bonus of family fun. Activities in the port of Avalon on Catalina include an amazing zip line course with five lines. Soaring along the island's hillsides 600 feet above the beaches below, the adventure course takes more than two hours to complete.

If your crew isn't into high-speed zipping, try a backcountry bison expedition or a relaxing day at the beach. Catalina is a charming island with a European feel, memorable food and a fascinating history. The second port on the itinerary is Ensenada, where the wildlife-watching or beach fun can continue.

Who should go: Disney Wonder is an ideal ship for family cruise travel from the West Coast. Features include the Marvel Superhero Academy inside the Disney Oceaneer Club, the activity space for kids. You'll have family-friendly accommodations on board, most with split bathrooms (one with toilet and sink, the other with bath-shower combo and sink). Parents have plenty of opportunities to enjoy a night out without the kids, dining at the adults-only Palo specialty restaurant or sampling an adult beverage at the After Hours entertainment district.

5- and 6-night Cabo overnight cruises on Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas

disney cruise mobile app

Royal Caribbean 's Quantum of the Seas is one of the largest vessels ever to sail from Los Angeles.

Quantum of the Seas carries 4,180 passengers at double occupancy. The ship features skydiving and surfing simulators, a bumper car pavilion, robotic bartenders and laser tag. The ship has so many included and extra-fee dining options that you'll be hard-pressed to try them all on a five- or six-night sailing.

The allure of this itinerary is the overnight in Cabo San Lucas. (The six-nighter also includes a visit to Ensenada.) After all those other cruise ships say adios to Cabo, cruisers can explore the city's nightlife. Street taco tour, anyone? Tequila flights? How else can you enjoy late-night freshly fried churros on a street corner?

The rest of the trip is all about fun on the ship as you cruise the Pacific Ocean waters.

Who should go: A Mexico cruise on Quantum of the Seas is ideal for big-ship lovers. Myriad flights into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and the area's smaller regional airports make it accessible to most of the Western states. For Californians who can drive to the port in less than a day, the fun of a beach day in nearby Long Beach before or after the cruise makes this sailing an easy choice.

7-night Mexican Riviera cruise on Discovery Princess

disney cruise mobile app

When Princess Cruises ' Discovery Princess isn't in Alaskan waters, it can be found cruising to the Mexican Riviera from the Los Angeles port at San Pedro.

The seven-night itinerary includes Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, plus three sea days to enjoy the ship, which carries 3,660 guests. Discovery Princess brings a bit of elegance to the riviera with afternoon tea and the ability to order the Ultimate Balcony Breakfast to your cabin's private veranda (for an additional charge).

For a true splurge, book one of two Sky Suites on Discovery Princess. Each suite has two bedrooms and a luxurious 1,000-square-foot balcony for unrivaled views.

Who should go: This is the best Mexico cruise for those seeking Princess' relaxed upscale mode of cruising. Children are always welcome on Princess, and there are plenty of connecting rooms and cabin options with third and fourth bunks. Though the ship offers a youth program, don't expect waterslides and thrill rides. The vibe on board is low-key, and the average age is a bit older when compared to Royal Caribbean or Carnival.

7-night Mexican Riviera cruise on Carnival Panorama

disney cruise mobile app

Carnival Panorama is loaded with Carnival-style fun. From a jaw-dropping, nail-biting ropes course high above the decks to waterslides and an indoor trampoline park, this ship is a crash course in playtime. The seven-night itineraries sail from Long Beach and include the main western Mexico ports of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, where the ship stays into the evening hours.

With three sea days, cruisers have plenty of time to enjoy the ship. The best part is that this floating thrill ride cruises this itinerary year-round.

Who should go: It's a great choice for families with tweens and teens because so many of the onboard activities are geared to them. Couples sailing without kiddos can enjoy adults-only areas like the Serenity sun deck retreat, a plush Cloud 9 Spa and Havana cabins with their exclusive pool deck.

7-night expedition to Baja California with UnCruise

disney cruise mobile app

UnCruise Adventures does Mexico with an entirely different approach to cruising.

Leave the party ships and the thrill rides behind for an expedition adventure aboard the 66-passenger Safari Voyager. The ship sails from La Paz, Mexico, between January and June, taking passengers in search of gray whales, whale sharks, rays and an amazing variety of sea life, as well as wildlife on dry land.

Activities include kayaking, Zodiac boat rides, snorkeling, hiking and, of course, downtime at the beach. Safari Explorer is somewhat basic in its amenities. You can expect cabins that are quite cozy, but there's ample public space on deck to watch for sealife and meet your fellow passengers.

UnCruise fares include all meals, excursions, equipment, beverages (including alcohol) and airport transfers, leaving you free to enjoy the adventure.

Who should go: This cruise is for physically fit adults and families with kids ages 8-17 seeking adventure in the wilds and waters of Baja California.

Related: Big vs. small cruise ships: Which will I like better?

10-night Mexico cruise with Cabo overnight on Grand Princess

disney cruise mobile app

Princess Cruises' 2,600-passenger Grand Princess and 3,080-passenger Emerald Princess sail seasonal 10-night Baja Peninsula & Sea of Cortez itineraries from Los Angeles.

The Grand Class vessels have an intimate feel and are on average 20% smaller than Princess' newer Royal Class ships (such as the previously mentioned Discovery Princess). The interiors revolve around lively, piazza-like atriums with cafes and boast large theaters and multiple restaurants and bars.

Each sailing calls in La Paz, Loreto and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with an overnight stop in Cabo San Lucas. In La Paz, catch some rays on the soft golden sand and take a dip in the turquoise water, or dive down to see the astonishing underwater world by snorkeling or scuba. In Loreto, step back in time to the 17th century at Mission San Javier with its stunning stained-glass windows and the bell tower of Our Lady of Loreto. Then enjoy the seafood specialties of the area, including tender "chocolate" clams cooked on hot stones (best accompanied by the citrus tang of an authentic margarita). Keep an eye on the sea while you're in these charming towns and you might also spot whales swimming by.

Four sea days allow you to rest up from your adventures ashore.

Who should go: This cruise is for anyone who enjoys exploring port cities more in-depth than what's offered by a standard port call and who appreciates less of a party atmosphere on board. Daytime activities in Cabo include sport fishing, wildlife watching, boat rides, camel rides, kayaking, parasailing and snorkeling. Add in evening tasting tours, and you're set.

Related: Ship-sponsored vs. independent shore excursions on cruises: Which should you book?

Bottom line

The best cruises to Mexico are the ones that suit your travel personality. Whether you're looking for a party atmosphere or adventure, there's a ship waiting to take you to Mexico any time of year.

Focus your search on round-trip itineraries from major ports in Los Angeles and San Diego. You'll also find options for cruises to Mexico's west coast from San Francisco. Mexico cruises from Galveston, New Orleans and even Mobile, Alabama, focus on the country's Caribbean shores.
