The cruise terminals in the port of Barcelona

There are seven jetties available for cruise ships in the port of Barcelona. The furthest from the city center are the terminals A, B, C and D, which are located on their own pier, the "Moll Adossat" or the "Muelle Adosado". Big cruise ships, e.g. the Aida or Carnival berth there.

T hree other important quays for passenger ships are the south terminal S (minor 18C), the east terminal E (minor 18B) and the north terminal N (minor 18A). These three terminals are grouped around the "World Trade Center" at the Moll Barcelona. This is where smaller cruise ships dock. A striking building on the jetty is the large steel tower of the cable car middle station.

Boarding a cruise ship is similar to checking in at the airport. In front of the moorings are check-in halls where you have to check in with your tickets and drop off your luggage.

At Terminal M - in front of the shopping and leisure center Maremàgnum - no passenger ships dock, especially larger yachts.

Tips for Shore and Land Excursions

Barcelona has a lot to offer for a day trip from the cruise ship. You do not have to book expensive tours on the boat. Book here your Shore and Land Excursion at a reasonable price.

Arrival from the airport to the cruise port

From barcelona airport (bcn) to the city center (drassanes).

If you arrive by plane from Barcelona El Prat de Llobregat Airport, take the blue Aerobús or bus 46 to Plaça Espanya (details on the two buses can be found on the Arriving by Plane page). At Plaça Espanya, take the subway and take line L3 (green line) in the direction of "Trinitat Nova" until the station "Drassanes". From the station "Drassanes" it is about 100 meters to the Columbus Column.

Tickets for the Aerobús can be booked online, for the bus 46 you will receive individual tickets from the driver and for the metro at each station at the ticket machines.

Arrival via Girona Airport (GRO) and Reus (REU)

Book a private transfer.

With our private transfers we take you directly from the airport to the harbor or from the harbor to the city center - of course also in the opposite direction. Depending on the size of your group, you can choose the appropriate vehicle size: taxi, people carrier, minibus, midibus and coach. And all at a fixed price.

  • Book Transfer

If you arrive via Girona airport , take the shuttle bus to the final stop in the city at "Estació del Nord". From there you can take the metro L1 and change at "Plaça Catalunya" to the L3 in the direction of "Zona Universitària". Get off at Drassanes station and continue as described below.

Arriving via Reus Airport , get off at Sants Estació Central Station and take the L3 metro line towards Trinitad Nova; then get off at the station Drassanes.

From Drassanes to the port by the Portbús

If you want to get to the cruise terminals AD - from here most of the major cruise liners depart - we strongly advise you not to walk there: the footpath to the cruise ship is long, runs alongside a busy road with heavy traffic and is currently in the Noon heat anything but pleasant to go.

On the harbor side of the square, where the Columbus Monument is located in the middle of a roundabout, is the terminus of the blue shuttle buses "PortBús". You buy the bus ticket directly from the driver - the ticket you bought for the metro does not apply here. The Portbús are also accessible by wheelchairs. Also all other facilities of the port are suitable for wheelchair users.

The travel times of Portbús are tailored to the cruise times of the cruise ships, there is therefore no printed timetable. There is a bus every 20-30 minutes. If several ships are in the harbor and with correspondingly larger passenger volumes, these also drive more often. If a ship stays overnight in the harbor, the Portbús leaves until about 23:00.

To the terminals N, E, S it is from the Columbus Column about 600 meters on foot. You can also wave a taxi everywhere. For taxi rides from / to the port, an extra port fee is applied.

Taxi from Barcelona airport

The taxi prices are based on weekend / weekday and day / night rate. In addition, luggage costs a surcharge and there is a surcharge for the port and the airport zone. The current taxi rates and surcharges are clearly visible in each taxi. For the trip from the airport to the port you have to expect about 25-30 €, depending on luggage and time of day more.

The taxi stands are located in front of the arrivals terminals, here you have to line up and occasionally wait for a long time for a free vehicle.

Private Transfer from the airport to the port or from the harbor to city center

With our Private Transfers we take you directly from the airport to the harbor or from the harbor to the city center - of course also in the opposite direction. Depending on the size of your group, you can choose the appropriate vehicle size: taxi, people carrier, minibus, midibus and coach. And at a fixed price.

Book the  Private Transfer here.

Arrival by car to the ferry and cruise terminals

The access by car to the departure areas of the ships is well signposted. Whether coming from the north, west or east, be sure to head for the B10, the Ronda del Litoral. This leads past the beach directly to the ferry port.

From the north, the A2 becomes the B10 as soon as the highway reaches the urban area. From the west it is the C-32 that crosses the A2 / B-10 on the outskirts. Coming from the east, take the C-32 - which then turns into the C-31 or B-20 in the city area. Take the C-31, which later crosses the B-10. If you have accidentally taken the B-20, that's no problem: it also crosses the B-10.

Parking near the port

To check in your luggage, short-term parking is available at the A-D cruise terminals, but no long-term parking is available. Two parking garages are located near the cruise port:

  • Underground parking in the World Trade Center
  • Car park Moll de la Fusta

Here you will find information about parking in Barcelona and tips for cheap long-term rates. Also, the shipping company where you have booked the cruise can tell you if and where discounted parking rates are included.

  • The official currency used in Barcelona, and throughout Spain, is the Euro (EUR).
  • The official language spoken in Barcelona is Catalan, although Spanish is also widely spoken and understood.
  • Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid, with a population of over 1.6 million people.

  • Barcelona is famous for its lively nightlife, with bars and clubs staying open late into the night.
  • The city is home to two major football (soccer) teams, FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol, and is passionate about the sport.

Where is Barcelona Cruise Port Located?

The Barcelona cruise terminal can be found in Port de Barcelona, which sits just beneath the Gothic Quarter of the city, a short walk away from many of Barcelona’s key sights.

There are 9 terminals in the port, 7 of which are allocated for cruise ships.

The 7 terminals can be found at the foot of one of Barcelona’s most beloved streets, Las Ramblas.

The majority of the cruise terminals (A, B, C, D, and E) can be found on Adossat Quay, a long pier to the outside of the harbor, which is connected to the rest of the port by a bridge. Terminal D is also referred to as Palacruceros.

There are two more cruise terminals at the World Trade Centre pier, known as the North and South terminals. The World Trade Centre pier is the closest pier to the city center.

Getting Around Barcelona from the Cruise Port

The good news is there are a number of ways in which you can journey from Barcelona Cruise Port to the city center.

Are There Free Shuttles From Barcelona Cruise Port?

There is a shuttle bus available from the cruise port known as the Blue Bus which takes cruisers to the monument of Christopher Columbus (just below Las Ramblas).

The Blue Bus coordinates its run time with the cruise arrival and departure times and comes roughly every 15 minutes when there’s a cruise ship in port. It isn’t free, however.

🚎 The fare is €3 per person or €4.50 for a return ticket.

Can You Walk to the City Center from Barcelona Cruise Port?

From the World Trade Center pier, it is a short 10-minute walk to Barcelona city center.

From the other cruise terminals, however, walking isn’t recommended as you need to journey 2 km (1.2 miles) just to reach the opening to the city. Taking the Blue Bus or taxi is a far better option.

Are there Taxis Available from Barcelona Cruise Port?

Just outside the port terminal, you will find a taxi rank. The taxis liaise with the cruise terminal staff to ensure there are always enough taxis outside to accommodate everyone.

Taxis are convenient as you can take them directly to the location you want to visit. They are, however, a lot more expensive than the Blue shuttle bus and a typical fare to Las Ramblas is €10 each way.

Best Shore Excursions from the Barcelona Cruise Port

When you arrive in Barcelona, there are a number of exciting shore activities for you to enjoy. Below are some of my favorites!

1. Stroll Down Las Ramblas

Las Ramblas Boulevard is a colorful and energetic street in the heart of Barcelona. It houses some of the city’s most iconic attractions, spanning an impressive 1.2 km (0.7 miles) in length.

When wandering down this iconic boulevard, you’ll pass numerous street performers, all out to impress with their unique costumes and heart-stopping acrobatics.

One of the best places to visit in Las Ramblas is La Boqueria Market , Barcelona’s key market. It’s a fantastic place to grab a bite to eat.

2. Marvel at Sagrada Família

The infamous Sagrada Família is perhaps the first attraction that comes to mind when you think of Barcelona. This never quite finished landmark is a church designed by famous architect Antoni Gaudí.

It’s a spectacular piece of artwork and has earned itself the title of the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world. Construction first began in 1882.

La Sagrada Familia can be admired from afar. Alternatively, you can buy tickets and enter the famous church. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior, with so many intricate details in the structure waiting to be admired.

3. Visit Casa Milà

Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera which means ‘stone quarry’ in Catalan) is a beautifully-constructed block of apartments and was the last private residence designed by Antoni Gaudí, constructed in the early 1900s.

This grand building is undoubtedly spectacular. However, the star of the show is its terrace with unique chimneys shaped like statues.

Today the house is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site and is a great monument to visit. Within the building is a Gaudí interpretation center. The site also houses art exhibitions and performances.

4. Relax in Plaça de Catalunya

Plaça de Catalunya is a large square in the heart of Barcelona, primely positioned at the meeting point between Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter and the 19th-century part of the city.

The square covers an area of 5 hectares and features several interesting sculptures, expanses of verdant grass, and a handful of fountains.

Plaça de Catalunya is a great place to sit on a park bench and admire Barcelona with an ice cream or takeout coffee from one of the numerous local cafes.

5. Wander Through Park Güell

In the northern district of Gracia is Park Güell, a grand park consisting of neat gardens as well as beautiful buildings and sculptures designed by Antoni Gaudí. One of the houses within the park used to be the residence of Gaudí himself.

In this park, you can find the famous mosaic Gaudí dragon fountain as well as the tranquil Nature Square which has fantastic views over Barcelona city center.

6. Explore The Gothic Quarter

Made up of winding cobbled streets and tranquil squares, the Gothic Quarter is the historic center of the old city of Barcelona.

Included in this beautiful segment of the city are the remains of Barcelona’s Roman city walls, a Roman temple ( Temple d’August ), and a magnificent Gothic Cathedral.

The Gothic Square also houses the oldest restaurant in Barcelona and the second oldest restaurant in the entirety of Spain: Can Culleretes , which dates back to 1786.

7. Visit Casa Batlló

Considered one of Antoni Gaudí’s greatest masterpieces, Casa Batlló (also known as Casa dels ossos which means ‘ House of Bones’ ) is a remodeled house in the center of Barcelona.

The remarkable building is designed to look as though it has been constructed from skulls and bones and uses colors inspired by the ocean.

Visitors can enter the building to see yet more impressive work from Gaudí, who also designed the interior of the house.

8. Walk Down Passeig de Gràcia

Passeig de Gràcia is one of the most popular avenues in Barcelona, housing some of the city’s key sights such as Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, as well as markets, museums, and some of the city’s best restaurants.

As well as being regarded for its incredible architecture, Passeig de Gràcia is also renowned for its shopping scene, with some of the most prestigious brands found lining the street.

Getting From Barcelona Airport to the Cruise Port

If your cruise starts or ends in Barcelona, you’ll need to have a way to get to and from the airport and cruise terminal.

There are three main ways to travel between Barcelona Airport and the cruise port: by taxi, train, or bus.

✔️ Taxis to the cruise port from the airport typically take around 15 minutes and cost around €40. It’s by far the most convenient way to reach the cruise terminal.

✔️ There are no direct trains between the airport and the cruise terminal. Therefore you will need to take the train from the airport to the city center and then from there take either the metro or a bus to the cruise port.

✔️ Like with trains, there are no direct buses between the airport and the cruise port so you will need to take a bus to the metro and then the metro to the cruise port.

When you reach the entrance to the cruise terminal after catching the bus or train, you will then need to take the Blue Bus shuttle if your cruise ship is stationed on Adossat Quay.

Journeying from the airport by bus or train can easily take around an hour.

Hiring a shuttle is the easiest and most carefree way to travel between the airport and the cruise terminal.

Places to Stay Near Barcelona Cruise Port

There are a number of highly rated hotels only a short taxi ride away from Barcelona Cruise Port.

InterContinental Barcelona is only a 12-minute taxi ride from the World Trade Centre pier or a 15-minute drive from Adossat Quay. The comfortable hotel has an outdoor roof terrace featuring a pool, sun loungers, and a dining area.

Another great option is Barceló Sants . This modern hotel is slightly further away from the cruise port but its fantastic online reviews make it worth the extra 5-minute journey.

Occidental Barcelona 1929 is another highly-rated hotel. Its convenient location in the center of the city not only makes it easy to reach the cruise port, but it’s a great base from which to explore the city itself.

Best Time to Visit Barcelona

Barcelona's new cruise restrictions mean ships will dock even farther from the city center

  • Barcelona has  banned cruise ships from docking at one of the terminals nearest its downtown.
  • Starting in October, many cruise ships will dock farther from the city's center.
  • The new restrictions are part of the city's efforts to curb overcrowding and pollution.

Insider Today

Barcelona has banned cruise ships from docking at one of the two terminals located in the city center, part of a growing push to limit overcrowding and pollution .

Starting in October, about 340 annual cruise ship and ferry calls will be redirected from the North Terminal at the World Trade Center to the Adossat Wharf, the furthest cruise pier from Barcelona's city center . The South Terminal, also located at the World Trade Center, will be closed by the end of 2026.

The Adossat Wharf is about a 30-minute drive from Las Ramblas, a popular tourist destination at the heart of Barcelona. Cruise passengers disembarking at Port of Barcelona terminals A, B, C, D, or E can either take a shuttle bus to the World Trade Center and walk 15 minutes to Las Ramblas, or arrange a private car service for a more direct route.

Related stories

On October 2, the Port of Barcelona hosted a "farewell ceremony" for the last cruise ship to visit the North Terminal, a Mystic Cruises ship called the World Navigator.

Port of Barcelona President Lluís Salvadó, said the terminal's closure will help "eliminate the negative externalities" of cruise tourism, as outlined in a 2018 agreement with the city council. The move will create more than 13,600 square meters of public spaces for urban residents, according to a press release.

As Barcelona grapples with ways to encourage more sustainable tourism in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, cruise ships have emerged as a prime target for restrictions.

"There are thousands of people who arrive at once" Ada Colau, the former mayor of Barcelona, told the newspaper El Pais in 2022. "Most of them stay for just a few hours and are highly concentrated in the downtown area. They generate a feeling of collapse."

Barcelona isn't the only city placing new restrictions on cruise ships. From European destinations like Venice and Amsterdam to American ports like Key West and Bar Harbor, coastal communities around the globe are rethinking their relationships with cruise tourism.

This has led to some tensions between protestors and cruise passengers. Earlier in October, environmental activists dressed as polar bears and walruses confronted guests disembarking the World Traveller cruise ship in Douarnenez, a small town in Brittany, France.

Our international flight leaves at 12:30pm, we have to be at the airport for 9:30am.

We are concerned with the Customs clearance at the port, not sure what time to allow for the

taxi service pick up. Our Virgin cruise gets in at 6:30am. We were hoping to book the pick up for 8:30am. Is there WIFI service at the port to be able to communicate with the driver?

How to reach Barcelona cruise port

Where do msc cruises’ ships dock in barcelona.

MSC Cruises’ ships dock at the main cruise terminal, called the Muelle de Adosado (Moll Adossat in Catalan) , in Barcelona. The cruise terminal is located just a few kilometres south of the city centre, ideal for those itching to hop off the ship and explore the vibrant Catalan capital.

The Muelle de Adosado is an artificial strip of land designed specifically for cruise ships and other large boats and is connected to the mainland via the Pont de la Porta d’Europa. For those not wanting to walk the half an hour or so into the city centre, there is a shuttle bus service that will take you near to the famous La Rambla street.

How do I reach the car park in Barcelona cruise Port?

The long-stay car park at Barcelona cruise terminal is located at the WTC World Trade Center , which is at Moll de Barcelona s/n, East building, 1st Floor, 08039, Barcelona .

The car park can be found just off the roundabout at Plaça de les Drassanes, which is just south of the famous Columbus Monument at the bottom of La Rambla. If travelling from the airport, drive along the B-10 motorway northwards and turn off at exit 21, following signs to ‘Ferris’ and ‘Creuers’. Similarly, if travelling from the north of the city, travel along the B10 southbound until exit 21, which is located in the tunnel and will take you directly to Plaça de les Drassanes.

Leave plenty of time when parking in Barcelona port, as the car park is located in a different area to the MSC Cruise Terminal. However, a shuttle bus can take you from the World Trade Center to the correct cruise terminal.

Parking at Barcelona Port can be booked at a discounted rate for MSC Cruises passengers up to 48 hours before cruise departure when booking online.

How do I get from Barcelona Airport to the cruise port?

Barcelona Airport is located around 16 kilometres (just under 10 miles) from the cruise terminal. If you are travelling by car or taxi from Barcelona Airport to the port, it should take around 20 minutes in good traffic conditions.

To get from Barcelona Airport to the port by car, follow signs to the C-31 highway and join it going north towards Barcelona city. Stay on the C-31 for around 3.5 kilometres before turning off at exit 195 to join the B-10 motorway eastwards towards Barcelona. Then continue along the B-10 for around 6.5 kilometres before turning off at exit 21. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout at Plaça de les Drassanes, then take the second exit to enter Barcelona Port where you will find the car park at the World Trade Center.

You can also reach the port from Barcelona Airport via public transport. To do this, take the Aerobus from Terminal C towards the city and get off at Plaza de España. From there, head to the metro station and take the L3 eastbound for three stops, getting off at Drassanes. This is the closest station to the cruise terminal, but it is still around one kilometre away, so allow approximately 20 minutes to walk the final section.

How to get to the Barcelona cruise port from the train station?

Barcelona Sants Railway Station – the main train station in the city – is located around four kilometres from the cruise port. The train station is well-served by taxis, buses and the metro.

A taxi ride should take around 10 minutes and costs roughly €20, although you may have to pay more if travelling with a large amount of luggage.

Taking a metro from Barcelona Sants to the cruise port is also straightforward. Simply take the L3 line eastbound for five stops, before getting off at Drassanes (the nearest metro station to the cruise terminal). From there, it is around a 10-minute walk to the entrance of the cruise port, although it’s a little further to reach the MSC Cruises embarkation point.

Is there a shuttle bus from the Barcelona cruise port?

There is a shuttle bus at the Barcelona cruise port that takes passengers around the various cruise terminals. These vehicles are named the Cruise Buses (or Blue Bus) and can easily be spotted, as they’re painted blue. The buses don’t have a set timetable, but you should have no trouble getting one when disembarking or embarking, as their frequency is based on when cruise ships depart and arrive at the terminals.

While the Barcelona cruise port shuttle bus doesn’t take you directly to the city centre, it will take you nearby. From the MSC Cruises terminal, it will take you to the World Trade Center, which is located near Plaça de les Drassanes. From there, it takes between five and ten minutes to walk to the Columbus Monument at the foot of La Rambla, the famous thoroughfare in the heart of Barcelona.

You can purchase tickets for the Cruise Buses while onboard. However, tickets can only be purchased with cash, so make sure you have some local currency.
