Every one of the 80 rooms here comes with a balcony or terrace that overlooks the river. Honeymooners should make time for a guided speed boat ride and a drink at the Tree Terrace. The open-air seating here wraps around the sturdy trunk of a baobab tree, and the whole place is candlelit at night.

Set on a strip of sourdough-coloured sand on Ghana’s south coast, Charlestina Beach Resort is home to a collection of chalet-style rooms.
