Will it fit my motorcycle.

Most likely. Check our Kits Available list Kits Available

If your motorcycle is not on this list, that does not mean you cannot have a Voyager just yet. There’s a good chance we’re designing a kit for your motorcycle right now. Or, you can start the design process. Just call (815) 434-7900 with the year, make and model of your motorcycle and we will (a) tell you if it is possible and (b) discuss the terms of the kit design process.

Can I finance a Voyager kit?

We do not offer financing but you can apply to OneMain Financial:

How does the Voyager compare to a conventional trike kit?

A conventional trike kit and a Voyager motorcycle conversion handle and ride similarly.  Both use push-pull steering and give you great stability in traffic and at stops.

The major difference is that Voyager is not permanent–it leaves you the option to go back to two-wheels. You can move your Voyager from motorcycle to motorcycle (of similar size) with the purchase of new mounting hardware and suspension parts, if needed. You do not have to permanently modify a your motorcycle.

There’s no need to pay 3 times the money for the same ride!  Why not take a few vacations instead?

How does the voyager compare to other conversion kits?

Quality. We have the strongest frame and attachment points in the industry for important reasons. The Voyager has been strenuously tested for stress levels by an independent engineering firm.

The Voyager Convertible Kit is the original convertible kit since 1998. We have more satisfied customers on the road today than any other convertible kit company. We constantly improve the Voyager and have been for 23 years. We have the largest and most committed dealership network.

Built to last. We have multiple customers that have put 300,000+ miles on a single Voyager using 3+ different motorcycle.

Trust the experts. Trust the track record. Trust the superior product.

What is the Voyager wheel size?

Standard Voyager wheel: 13” Chrome Rim with black wall tire.

15” XCite Machined Face, black trim, with low-profile black wall tire. Only $199.00, when upgraded with the purchase of a new Voyager kit. Otherwise $550.00.

15” XCite Phantom Chrome, with low-profile black wall tire. Only $199.00, when upgraded with the purchase of a new Voyager kit. Otherwise $550.00.

15” Boost Silver, with low-profile black wall tire. Only $199.00, when upgraded with the purchase of a new Voyager kit. Otherwise $550.00.

What is included with a Voyager?

The Voyager includes a Voyager frame, fenders, a rear guard/assembly, a mounting hardware kit, a suspension hardware kit, tires & wheels, hubs, a trailer ball hitch, jack stands, a portable kickstand, a preload plate and an installation manual.

Does the Voyager have a reverse?

Heck yeah!  The Reverse by Voyager is an option for old and new Voyagers alike.  Check out our   reverse page .

Reverse by Voyager

Whats the difference between the Voyager Standard, Custom, and Classic?

Each style Voyager functions equally giving you the same great ride and stability no matter the kit style you choose. When you order your Voyager for your motorcycle, no matter if it is the Standard, Custom, or Classic, you will receive the same heavy-duty mounting and suspension hardware.

The difference is in the cosmetic options. The Standard includes metal fenders and a metal rear guard. The Custom includes your choice of premium fiberglass fenders and a metal rear guard. The Classic included your choice of premium fiberglass fenders, your choice of fender tail lights, a wiring harness, and a premium fiberglass rear assembly (which includes two H-D style tail lights).

How is the Voyager mounted?

NOTE: Everything is bolt on. No drilling, no welding.

The Voyager is mounted via receiver brackets (mounting hardware) installed on the motorcycle. Once these brackets are installed, the Voyager frame will bolt on and bolt off in minutes. The receiver brackets are not permanent, but for most bikes, can stay on while riding your two-wheel motorcycle.

Can I install the Voyager myself?

Installing the Voyager yourself requires basic mechanical knowledge. NOTE: Everything is bolt-on. No drilling, no welding. Generally, we say, that if you can change your own rear tire, you will have no problem installing the Voyager.

Necessary Tools:

  • SAE Wrenches (7/16”; 9/16”; 1/2”; 3/4”, 1-1/8”) OR Metric Wrenches (8mm–19mm)
  • Phillips Screwdrivers
  • 32mm Axle Bolt Wrench (usually comes with motorcycle)
  • Torque Wrench

How long to install my Voyager?

It takes our experienced installers between 1.5 and 4 hours to complete an installation depending on the motorcycle, Voyager style, and Voyager options.

For an inexperienced installer, expect 3-8 hours depending on the motorcycle, Voyager style, and Voyager options.

How long to take my Voyager on and off once installed?

After your Voyager installation, taking the Voyager off of your motorcycle is simple and quick. First, stabilize your motorcycle. Second, remove the main attachment bolts. Third, unplug your electrical, pull the Voyager off the rear receiver brackets and install your portable kickstand. Forth, roll or drive you motorcycle over the crossbar and off of the Voyager. This process generally takes 5-10 minutes.

To put the Voyager back on just reverse the steps: Back the motorcycle into the Voyager, line up the rear receiver brackets with the suspension forks, plug your electrical and bolt in the main attachment bolts. This process generally takes 10-20 minutes.

The more you practice, the faster the on-and-off process.

Does the Voyager come already painted?

You have the choice of either a finished gloss black or primer gray. For a charge, we will custom paint your Voyagers. However, we do not guarantee an exact match to your motorcycle, the process generally take up to 4 weeks and it costs $450-650. Specialty colors may cost more, call for details.

WARNING:   Motorcycle Tour Conversions, Inc. cannot guarantee a match due to, but not limited to, (a) changes in color, due to wear from sun or weather exposure or regular use, or (b) incorrect or insufficient information provided about the motorcycle or paint color. Paint completion times are subject to change without notice.

How long will it take to get my Voyager?

During the slow season (October through February) your Voyager will ship in 1-2 business days. During the busy season (March through September) your Voyager will ship in 5-10 business days. After being shipped, the package generally takes 5-7 business days to arrive.

How will my Voyager be delivered?

Your Voyager sits in a 66” x 66” x 28” box. It weighs 360 lbs. You will need to get it off of the truck via man-power or lift. If you have neither available, you can request lift gate service for an additional fee.

Does the Voyager have independent suspension?

The Voyager’s suspension is independent of the motorcycle. The Voyager wheels move independently of the motorcycle reducing front-end shake. Front-end shake is also reduced by shock absorbing leaf springs and rubber shock mounts.

Will the Voyager make the rear wheel of the motorcycle high-centered?

Becoming high-centered is physically possible, but rare. The Voyager wheels and the rear wheel of the motorcycle work independently of each other and therefore allow each other to move to different heights on an uneven road. The Voyager wheels are also preloaded to push the center wheel down to the ground lowering the chance of traction loss.

Can I still lean my motorcycle with the Voyager attached?

Not in the sense of leaning a two-wheel motorcycle, not for control. However, there is a slight amount of flexibility allowing the motorcycle to lean/tilt approximately six to twelve (6-12) degrees inside of the Voyager delivering a less rigid ride. Despite the lean, with the Voyager-attached motorcycle must be steered like a trike (using a simple push-pull system).

What is the warranty on a Voyager?

Your new Voyager carries a warranty on all parts and labor for a period of one year from the date of original purchase. This warranty covers the repair or replacement of all parts on Voyager or attachment hardware defective due to manufacturing. Any damage due to abuse, road hazard, or collision is not covered under this warranty.

The installation of the Voyager kit is critical. Failure to follow the installation manual cancels all factory warranties. Liabilities are with the installer if not properly installed. The owner is responsible for normal maintenance. Make sure all bolts are tightened before each riding season.

Will I lose my current motorcycle warranty if I add the Voyager?

No. In the past, we’ve encountered dealerships that try to void a warranty because one of their customers adds a Voyager Convertible Trike Kit. However, we have never had a dealership follow through with warranty abandonment because we are here to fight such claims.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) governs that if a company offers a warranty on a product, and then wants to abandon that warranty due to reasons that include after-market products, they must prove that the added products or made changes are the cause of the need for a warranty claim. Without this Act, a dealership could decide not to repair your two-year-old engine because you changed the mirrors.

More info on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Has the Voyager been tested for safety?

An independent engineering firm (Datasyst – WI) tested the Voyager for stress levels on its frame and hardware parts.

Tests performed: Ultimate Load Test; Stress Coat Testing; Strain Gage Data Acquisition; Cyclic Load Test; Fatigue Analysis.

These tests helped improve and assure the Voyager’s strength and safety.

Are convertible kits legal?

Questions exist about the Voyager’s legality based on motorcycle vehicle identification codes generally reading, “…a motorcycle is every motor vehicle designed not to travel on more than three wheels in contact with the ground.” The Voyager’s legality is not found here.

The Voyager is legal under motorcycle trailer law, which states, “a non-motorized vehicle carrying persons or property being drawn or pulled by a motorized vehicle.” The Voyager is drawn from the motorcycle, carries persons (the rider and passenger) and property (the motorcycle).

Doesn’t a motorcycle trailer require a tag? Yes, if it is an extension of the motorcycle. The Voyager is not an extension of the motorcycle, therefore does not require a tag.

Also, the Voyager is legal under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This act states that any product or modification that allows people to operate a vehicle or system in a way that makes it safer for the operator and the public is legal. Disabilities include both height and strength, which are major causes for needing stability.

If there is ever a question, call us.  If you’re ever threatened that you’re riding an illegal vehicle, say that is incorrect and if ticketed, call us.  We will assist with full force upon any confusion.  We’ve had the motorcycle identification changed or outrigger stabilizing wheels identified in Iowa and Washington.

If my Harley has a Bank Angle Sensor (BAS) and it keeps shutting off my trike-converted motorcycle, how can I fix this?

The BAS is a sensor the shuts off the motorcycle when the motorcycle is laying on its side, whether after a drop, or accident. It may shut your motorcycle off when you’re turning with the motorcycle as a stable unit, with a sidecar, trike kit, etc. The reason for this is that the BAS senses lateral pressure and when you’re riding a stable unit the g-forces during a turn press on the motorcycle laterally.

Luckily, Harley-Davidson recognizes this problem and has a solution for you. The following information is taken from   Harley-Davidson’s website .   You’ll need to call your local Harley-Davidson dealership to order the parts listed in the table.

Changing From Bike To Bike

What do i need to change my voyager kit to a different motorcycle.

First, you need to make sure that the motorcycle you change the Voyager kit to uses the same frame size (A, B, C, D) as the motorcycle the Voyager kit is removed from.

Second, you need to purchase a mounting hardware kit specific to your motorcycle.

Third, you may need to purchase different size Voyager suspension forks and/or leaf springs for the Voyager to fit correctly on your motorcycle.

If you have any questions call Motorcycle Tour Conversions, Inc. at (877) 434-7901. Necessary information includes the year, make, and model of the motorcycle the Voyager kit separates from and the Voyager serial number if available. Also, the year, make, and model of the motorcycle the Voyager transfers to are necessary.

Motorcycle Tour Conversions, Inc. guarantees, and warrants no transfer upon any non-directed, custom Voyager modification.

What is the cost of switching a Voyager from one motorcycle to another?

Every style of mounting hardware is unique to each year/model motorcycle. Different size Voyager suspension forks and/or leaf springs are required to accommodate different motorcycles.

A mounting hardware kit includes all receiver brackets (belly bracket, etc.), bearing receivers, hardware, installation manual, replacement axle bolt (if necessary), portable kickstand, shims, and jack stands.

Typical cost: $950.00-1790.00.

I have an old style rear guard, but prefer the new lower rear guard, how can I change?

The tall shocks on the back of the Voyager prevent the use of the lowered rear guards. Therefore, first, you need to purchase a retrofit suspension kit. These kits cost $132.00-$145.00 and include the rubber dampers & hardware.

After you have changed your suspension the lowered rear guards can be used. There are two (2) choices: Standard metal rear guard – $275.00; or, Classic fiberglass rear assembly with Harley-Davidson style lights – $730.00 (wiring not included).

The voyager trike kit

  • Add to quote

Well I finished it on Sunday afternoon and took it for my first ride, wasn't real excited. At this point i've got mixed feelings. I guess I had higher expectations I thought it would ride and handle better that it does. I knew it would be more difficult in the curves, and it surely is. I've toyed with the preload adjustment a few times, change the air pressures in this suspension but I'm still not real impressed. Does anyone that has one of these have any good advice for me? And oh yeah, I've talked with MTC a few times. But it still fits in the shed.

voyager trike kit uk

What were you expecting in terms of performance??? Have you test driven other full conversions as a comparison?? I use a Tow Pac Instatrike kit but I'm pretty satisfied with mine... I don't know as much about the Voyager as I do the Tow Pac but I would suggest the following... Play with preload and tire pressure... Tire down force (preload) will make a huge difference in ride quality and handling as will tire pressure... Tow Pac recommends 50 PSI in the 12" tires and I run 31-32PSI - it made a huge difference... My downforce is set so that I can just break a tire loose when grabbing it with both hands and giving a sharp upward tug... Consider adding a rake kit... I added a Traxxion 4.5 degree rake kit and it makes all the difference in the world in terms of driver fatigue or lack thereof... I can still ride my bike with the rake kit installed (GL1800)... Steering is a bit more sensitive but not at all unreasonable... You are not going to "instantly die" if you rake the front end out 4.5 degrees... Don't think I would go anymore than 4.5 degrees though as the rake kits really are "trail kits" and will effect bike stability, similar to a castor effect on a shopping cart... Additionally, remember - - - your Voyager is an add-on accessory and not like a full trike conversion... It is a compromise on performance and is priced many thousands of dollars less than a full conversion, so some sacrifice in performance and/or ride quality compared to a full conversion is to be expected... Les

I guess after reading all the reviews and watching the videos I was expecting a smoother ride. I drive a semi truck and it rides nicer. I was having a little wobble issue with the steering and putting more Air into the rear shocks eliminated some of that. But when it hits a bump the trike unit seems to keep bouncing like a basketball and disrupts the ride significantly. As far as other trikes go this is my first encounter with any trike. The manufacturer recommends only 20 PSI in the tires so that's what I have. They also recommend a half inch block underneath the cycle tire to adjust the preload. I just did not expect it to bounce around and shake around like it does. I really don't know if I am going to be able to get used to this.

voyager trike kit uk

You have the newer unit, I had the older unit with shocks and they don't make those any more. You have to get the pre-load, suspension setting and tire pressure to work together. I used 3/4" under the rear tire. You really have to fiddle with those settings and put 20lbs of air in the Voyager tires so they don't bounce.

I agree... Took me quite a while to get my TP dialed in but it's a real pleasure to ride now... Stay with it - you'll get it after fooling around with it for a while... And don't forget the bike rear suspension will play into it as well...

You're right, even more push/pull than I expected. I can see where overcoming the feeling that you're going to be a challenge. When that feeling comes I think it's only normal to reduce speed and the degree of the turning. However, that WILL take you out. So, I'm working on that also. I've ridden on 2 wheels for 50 years since I started driving so this is a real change. My first vehicle was a motorcycle at age 16.

voyager trike kit uk

It was a bit of an adjustment but I finally could ride it as fast as a 2 wheeler and had no problem keeping up with my Wing brothers. Mine seemed to understeer so I got pretty aggressive with the push pull. Rode a friend's full trike conversion and that steered so easy that I was oversteering. Loved to power slide in the sand with it with no fear. Watch your feet that you don't ride over them and the obstacles in gas stations like guard posts, pumps and little old ladies.:surprise:

voyager trike kit uk

As some know I had a hell of a time getting the Voyager to my liking on my 1800. I tried several things. I even put a 2x4 under the rear tire for preload. Ended up with a 1/2" plywood then a 1/4" plywood on that. It measured a little over 5/8". I finally added some bracing that the 1800 kit didn't have, but the 1500 didn't need. Things were a whole lot better, but not perfect. I was using beads to balance all 4 tires, but still had some "bounce" in the outrigger tires. I decided to take the beads out and balance the outrigger tires the old fashion way with lead weights. That helped tremendously. As for steering. a trike will never, ever steer like a 2 wheel motorcycle. It can't. The Push/Pull method is about the only way. It also helps to physically lean your body into a corner. There is a major learning curve to riding any kind of trike. I have seen people that have rode 2 wheel motorcycles all their lives run into a tree or the ditch the first time they got on a trike. When you add a 3rd or 4th wheel, you are not riding a motorcycle any longer, you are riding a trike. It doesn't look, ride, behave, or handle like a 2 wheel motorcycle. It is a trike and it is going to ride like a trike. As for smoothness, when you add tires, you add more surface to touch the road so you are going to feel more surface. The truck has more suspension, air ride etc. Nothing I've said was/is meant to piss you off, so please don't take it that way, but if you were expecting 2 wheel ride and performance, it isn't possible with a trike. Yes, I know some are going to ride smoother and better than the Voyager kit, but they are still not 2 wheel motorcycles.

Thanks for your input, I value it more than you know. And you did not piss me off or offend me in the least. I was basing my expectations on those reviews that are out there and the actual testimonies on the MTC site. My expectations were too high. And since this is my first experience with a trike I got the surprise I didn't expect. I'm getting there little by little. All the comments I've received here are very much appreciated! Thank you all!

Just was wondering if I should have air shock up or down when setting preload cause I also have the bounce problem

Hello and welcome to the forum. I had the Voyager tire pressure at 20 pounds and the air shocks at either 75 or 80%. The model I had years ago had two shocks for the suspension, the newer ones have something different.

Anyone else here riding with a Voyager trike kit?

voyager trike kit uk

  • Add to quote

I'd like to here you impression of the ride and handling. So far I'm not liking it at all!!! You practically have to stop to take a curve and I'm told the only way to make steering any easier is to rake the front end with a price tag of $1200. I am going to give it a while to see if I can get used to it, if not it is coming off!!!

voyager trike kit uk

A friend had one, she liked it until it caused her to have an accident for the same reasons you claim to not like it. It was hard to steer w/o a rake kit. She had to swerve to avoid debris in the road and the bike flipped with her.

Sorry it is not working out for you, Rick. Have you contacted Voyager with your concerns?

voyager trike kit uk

I'm guessing here, the shop adjusted it and it's still no good?

Trikes are hard to steer. You need to muscle them in turns.

I put a tow-pak on my friends bike and after days I found that you have to take exits at the posted speed. I tilted his bike a little to the left side because of the crown on the road. Now on the highway the things tracks straight. Before he had to fight it all the time. It is alot different then a bike and takes alot to get use to it. But as I had said before I meet an older couple that has one for sale and he said it took him a long time to get used to it. Don't give up to quickly. Go slow and give it some time.

voyager My brother in law is a parapalegic and we put a voyager kit on his honda 1300 VTX. He is very happy with the way it handles. One thing we did was we set the preload very light so that there is very little weight on the voyager kit. When he turns the the outside wheel comes off the ground just a little. This gives him the feeling of being able to lean into curves. It also made turning a lot easier. After 28 years in his wheelchair, he loves his voyager. I ride his bike somtimes and think it handles alright.

Maybe try a reverse trike before you give-up riding?

voyager trike kit uk

Sorry to hear not what you expected Rick.

If this doesn't work out for you maybe the next effort should be a sidecar!! But, I really hope you can get this dialed in.

preload To get the feel and handleing he wanted we reversed the preload. I put the 3/4 block of wood under both wheels of the voyager instead of under the bike. That was the way it felt the best for him. I'm not sure how you feel about trying that but it might be worth a try. I hope it all works out for you.

I haven't seen any one compare the voyager to a full three wheel trike. How do they compare?

voyager trike kit uk

As Psycho mentioned......an old thread but in answer to your question, I had a Voyager attached to a 1500 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic for about 9 months......I have also ridden an 1800 Gold Wing trike and a BMP Spyder. To be honest, after all that "triking", I'm not a fan of trikes. If you wanted my honest opinion I would recommend a Spyder. It's much easier to ride than a conventional trike and a "whole lot" better than a Voyager kit.....

Voyager Trike Kit Problem And Solution – Exclusive From Real Users

In Voyager Trike kits, problems like heavy weight and weak shock absorber can generate vibration while riding. Preloading issues can be the reason for loss of traction or imbalanced riding. There are some other problems that you may not find elsewhere except from the real riders’ experience.

We’ve come up with an exclusive list of problems and their solutions related to the Voyager Trike kit. So, let’s see how these problems can take place, how they affect the vehicle, and how to solve them quickly.

Voyager Trike Kit Problem And Solution

Troubleshooting And Fixing Voyager Trike Kit  Problems

Using a trike kit is really safe and functional if it works properly. However, different riders have reported seeing a number of issues with Voyager Trike kits. Let’s see what these are and, more importantly, how to solve them.

Traction problem

A very common problem with voyager trike kits is loose traction on the rear wheel. When it comes into contact with stone, gravel, or dips in the road, the performance drops extensively.

In such cases, you may have to push your bike heavily to get an adequate amount of traction. And definitely, it’ll be frustrating.

This problem mainly occurs with pre-loading issues. The setup of the Voyager trike kit on the bike is crucial and requires skills to accomplish.

That’s why, while setting up, the pre-load must be adjusted as needed. Thus, the traction issues can be mitigated.

However, if you don’t know how to adjust the preload, don’t worry. We’re going to discuss it in detail later.

The bike leans or pushes Right/Left

Just like we’ve already discussed, the setup of the kit on your bike is really important. If it’s not well fitted, and not in the exact center, the bike will be unstable, especially in the corner.

While driving, you can easily feel if the bike leans or pushes to either side. The leaning of the bike can be solved by placing shims between the belly bracket and frame.

On the other hand, pushing off the bike may occur when the Voyager kit is not aligned properly. You may need to loosen the bracket and re-align it perfectly.

To reduce the extra cost of solving this, make sure the setup is done perfectly the first time. Always choose a skilled and experienced person for servicing.

Making noise

Sometimes riders have noticed irritating noises coming from the Voyager trike kit. During a ride, especially on off-roads, the kit starts making noises. That’s nothing but a problem of loose fitting.

To make sure that the problem is with the bolts, check all the nuts and bolts that are included with the kit.

Make them tight and rigid. Furthermore, applying grease to the rear bearing and tightening jam nuts can be helpful.

However, for new bearings, neither applying grease nor tightening jam nuts is necessary since the new bearing performs well and doesn’t have jam nuts either.

Shake and vibration

The Voyager trike kit is not perfectly designed. So, sometimes riders have experienced shaking and vibration while driving. Moreover, the front end shock and spring can be worn, and the tire can be out of balance.

Due to the problem with the shock absorber and imperfect tire pressure, this problem can be seen.

The tire pressure of the Voyager trike kit should be 20 lbs., whereas the motorcycle tire pressure can be normal.

The front tire should maintain 5-10 lbs., whereas the back tire should be at maximum air pressure. Thus, the problem can be mostly solved.

This problem is very minor and can be fixed by proper calibration of air pressure and maintaining the tire and wheel. Thus, it may not cost you a lot of money.

Pre-loading issue

This is the most common problem with the Voyager Trike Kit. The pre-loading issue can cause many other problems like imbalance, loss of traction, malfunction of the shock absorber, etc.

Many users recommended increasing the preload by ¾ inches to get the best result. However, the company behind Voyager Kit has provided an official guide to setting up the preload. You can find it here on their official website.

The method includes loosening the ½” U bolt on the suspension lock bar and rolling the bike tire on the ¼, ½, or ¾” preload plate. The bike should be in first gear while doing this. Now tighten the bolt again.

However, remember that the more preload you fix, the less lean will be possible to do with the motorcycle.

Wrong setup

On social media and online groups the most commonly arising problem you may see is the improper setup of the Voyager Trike Kit.

What happens in most cases is, the kit is not aligned perfectly. As a result, the bike tends to move in either direction.

In contrast, you can see a plethora of examples where people have ridden over 5000 miles with no issues just because the kit setup was perfect.

So, how do you solve this issue? The only solution is to find an experienced mechanic. One who has previous experience setting Voyager kits.

Also, make sure to discuss how those previous setups are currently working. Then, if you’re convinced, you can go with him.

Otherwise, with an improper setup, you can face issues like shock absorber failure, less traction of the wheel, etc. However, the cost of setup may depend on various parameters, and you shouldn’t compromise on this.

What Are The Differences Among The Standard, Custom, And Classic Voyager Trike Kits?

The Voyager trike kit has three different models. They call them standard, custom, and classic, respectively.

The overall performance and look are almost the same, except for some changes in cosmetic options. Below, let’s see the differences between them.

  • The standard version comes with a metal guard on the rear side.
  • The custom version also has a metal rear guard. But in addition, it also has premium fiberglass fenders.
  • And the last, the classic version, includes a fender tail light, wiring harness, and fiberglass rear assembly.

So, as you can see, all of them will serve equally since there are no major differences except the outlook of these three versions. So, you can choose whichever you want.

Tips To Prevent Problems On Voyager Trike Kit

Though Voyager Trike kits are capable of serving for a long time, there are some methods to prolong their lifespan. So, here are some tips to prevent Voyager kits from having any problems.

  • Check and tune the kit motor regularly. By uncovering the battery, you also adjust the motor and gear to get the optimum output.
  • Adjust the handlebars and seats according to your comfort.
  • Replace any faulty parts as soon as possible. You can check Voyager Cycle’s website for the best deal.
  • Always maintain the full charging and discharging cycles of the battery to ensure longer battery life.

Voyager trike kits are extremely popular due to their flexible functionality. That’s why a lot of people are always asking different questions. Let’s explore some of the most popular ones.

What Is The Weight Limit For A Trike Kit Motorcycle?

Though there’s no hard and fast rule to determine a universal weight limit for all the Trike kits since each of the adult kits has different specifications and materials. However, the average weight limit for a trike kit is 275 lbs.

Does The Voyager Trike Kit Have Independent Suspension?

Yes. The Voyager Trike kit will come with independent suspensions from the motorcycle. With the help of a leaf spring and shock absorber, the front-end shake can be minimized.

What Is The Warranty On A Voyager Kit?

The warranty policy will cover all costs of maintenance and repair for one year from the purchase date. However, if any issues occur during the installation process by the installer, then they won’t be covered by the warranty. Moreover, damages due to abuse, and accidents are also not covered.

Final Words

Voyager trike kit comes in three models named Standard, Custom, and Classic, and each has its own unique look and functions. However, since such kits are completely different from bikes, installing them properly has always been a challenging task.

So, we would suggest finding a skilled mechanic for the job and making sure to maintain the alignment of the bike and kits. Otherwise, the overall experience of the kit will be affected.

I've read that the Voyager Trike Kit (as well as others) is illegal in some states due to there being 4 wheels on the ground vs. 2 or 3 wheels, and therefore does not classify as a motorcycle, and the bike isn't street legal if classified as a car. Here's what I would do if I were in one of those states ...<br /> <br /> The kit, as a stand-alone (not on the bike) could definitely be classified as a trailer. Heck, just look at it unattached. Go and get it registered as a trailer and get separate tags for it. The state definitely wants your money. The trailer then connects onto your bike at the special hitch located below your bike. Make sure you have both your bike's tags and your voyager kit's tags mounted at all times. If you get pulled over, show the registration for your bike and your trailer. PROBLEM SOLVED !!! <img src="images/smilies/grin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="big grin" class="inlineimg" /><br /> <br /> Any thoughts?

Re: Possible Solution to the Voyager Kit Legality Question

In what states would the "training wheel" kits not be street legal?

It all centers around the fact that their law states that a motorcycle is defined as 3 wheels or less, but I don't think these laws are really enforced much. I read where Voyager claimed at one time to have gotten Federal DOT approval that superceded state laws, but I never dug into it or read anything that supported or contradicted that.<br /> <br /> It does seem petty to me though that there are people who have that 4th wheel removed and spend much more money on their trike and then feel that they need to belittle others who choose these kits. It's kinda the same as some police officers claiming that corrections officers aren't real law enforcement ... that they are just wannabes. I'm sure you've run into those kind of people.

If the Voyager were not street legal the manufacturer couldn't sell them in those states. It can also be classified as an 'Accessory'. In some states you can obtain a trike operator's license with one and in others it may require a motorcycle endorsement because the unit is removable. <img src="images/smilies/confused.gif" border="0" alt="" title="huh??" class="inlineimg" />

I just got word from the Wa. State Patrol and they say the the vehicle can't be registered in the state (not a bike, trike or a car). They do say however that they don't control vehicle licensing...............maybe registering it as a trailer is the way to go but you have to get a title which means a vehicle inspection from the State Patrol. Kind of a Catch-22.
This is on the MTC voyager site under FAQ:<br /> <br /> FAQ Purchasing a New Voyager <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 19. Are convertible kits legal?<br /> <br /> Questions exist about the Voyager’s legality based on motorcycle vehicle identification codes generally reading, “...a motorcycle is every motor vehicle designed not to travel on more than three wheels in contact with the ground.” The Voyager’s legality is not found here.<br /> <br /> The Voyager is legal under motorcycle trailer law, which states, “a non-motorized vehicle carrying persons or property being drawn or pulled by a motorized vehicle.” The Voyager is drawn from the motorcycle, carries persons (the rider and passenger) and property (the motorcycle).<br /> <br /> Doesn’t a motorcycle trailer require a tag? Yes, if it is an extension of the motorcycle. The Voyager is not an extension of the motorcycle, therefore does not require a tag.<br /> <br /> Also, the Voyager is legal under the United States Disability Act. This act states that any product or modification that allows people to operate a vehicle or system in a way that makes it safer for the operator and the public is legal. Disabilities include both height and strength, which are major causes for needing stability

Can't register the bike with Voyager on ? Remove it and put in on later I never have to show a bike I register in less it is over 2o years old or out of state. Then I would show up with out the Voyager. I does not say it is on there on the title

IN SC a trike is considered a 3 wheel car, so you don't have to have a motorcycle endorsement on your license.

Just wondering....Isn't the Voyager kit a fairly easily removed kit? Why can't he just register the bike then re-add the Voyager? I made my black Harley Sportster 883 into a purple trike. Registration in New York listed it as the original black 883. Couldn't the Voyager trike issue be sorta' similar? John, you beat me to this question LOL!!!!
