New zealand maritime museum.
Formerly known as simply the National Maritime Museum, the giant, white form of KZ1 marks the entrance to this superlative museum of the sea. Voyagers covers Polynesian migrations and the arrival of European settlers, plus it takes an intriguing look at the place of boats in modern New Zealand culture. The stunning “Blue Water, Black Magic—A Tribute to Sir Peter Blake” exhibit highlights the work of ocean racer and environmentalist Sir Peter before he was gunned down in the Amazon in 2002. And if you're feeling like too much of a landlubber spending the afternoon inside and dry, know the visitors can cruise aboard the Ted Ashby, a traditional ketch-rigged deck scow (it makes two journeys daily).
