Our 2023-24 list of America’s 100 Best Clubfitters, which first debuted in 2011, considers all sorts of facilities that offer clubfitting access to the general public. Those include independent shops, practice ranges and full-service performance centers, large retail stores, resorts, golf courses and national chains. More than 1,000 facilities were reviewed, which included nomination forms that detailed each facility’s resources, tools, expertise and fitting methodolgy. We also conducted a poll of leading equipment-company experts and our nationwide panel of more than 2,000 Golf Digest course-ranking panelists. In addition, for the first time ever, an online poll of Golf Digest subscribers generated nearly 10,000 votes. Those facilities earning the highest marks are highlighted here in two categories: The state-by-state heading lists 100 independent, local operations. Also listed under each state, we include the top rated individual stores for several national brands.

What should you look for in a good clubfitting operation? First, an array of manufacturers to choose from. It’s what is known in the industry as being “brand agnostic.” Second, insist on expertise with modern clubfitting technology. That means launch monitors and other measurement devices that detail what each tweak does to a club’s performance, not just on one hit but for the average of your best and less-than-best strikes.

Third, and maybe most important, find the fitter who is asking and listening more than he or she is selling. The right-fitting clubs don’t always require a purchase, but they do require someone dedicated to your best interests.

There is no question fitting has become one of the most important innovations in golf over the last two decades. A recent study by Golf Datatech found that 94 percent of those who've been fit for their clubs 94 percent of those said they were at least “satisfied” with their most recent fitting. Still not convinced that a fitting is right for you? We had some expert fitters whose facilities have been on our Best Clubfitters list every year since its inception, answer a few common questions.

I’m not a good enough player to be fit, right? How can you tell what’s right for me when I don’t make consistent swings?

I love this question!! My first response is how do you know it’s not the equipment that causing the inconsistency? Secondly, I admit the pros should be the most consistent of any golfer but when you watch tournament coverage you can see any pro on any given day guide a ball into the trees, hit one short to the green or even miss a 4 footer. A fitting is not based on one shot with a clubs it is an average of shots. If I got fit for my driver by a 100 Best Clubfitter a year ago, is there any reason to get fit for another new driver this year? What if I was fit three years ago? Five years ago?

I believe you get fit when you feel like you are not getting the most out of your equipment. If that’s a year, then yes get fit, but more likely it’s going to be every 3 or 5 years. Sometimes even though you don’t feel you are getting everything from your clubs you truly are and at least the fitting will confirm that, and you can have the confidence that you are playing the very best. That said, over a three week period last year, we tested every piece of new equipment with 20 golfers varying in handicap most of whom had recently been fit. We found that in each category: driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and putters, there was always one piece of new gear that provided an improvement over a golfer's existing equipment.— Nick Sherburne, Club Champion

Why would I not choose the driver that produced the single longest hit of all the clubs I tried?

Golf is not a home run sport. Example my longest driver A is 280 and my average drive is 250. With driver B my longest drive is 270 but my average is 260 I will give the player Driver B all day. But more importantly what is the dispersion, drives that land in the fairway consistently, roll father and make the game easier. I know my specs, know what I like. What are you going to tell me that I don’t already know?

A lot!! First of all are you aware that your “specs” may or may not apply to specific clubs you are looking to purchase. “Specs” are not the same from brand to brand and even within the same manufacturer depending upon model the “Specs” may not be the same. As such, I could tell a prospective fitting customer “a lot” that thinks they know their “specs”, but better than tell them I could show any player within a few minutes how their “specs” may not be what they actually want to purchase. Moreover, even if they think they know what they like—have they tried everything to know for certain that what they think they like is actually what is right for them. There are so many different models and aftermarket shafts that it is unlikely a player who thinks they know what they want has actually tried other models and/or shafts that might be even better for them. — Craig Zimmerman, Redtail Golf Center, Beaverton, Ore.

Plus, the carbon effect really creates a premium feel to the finish. Technology? Let's start with Tour Edge’s Diamond Face VFT technology. This features 35 different diamond shapes that essentially act as “mini-trampolines” behind the face to increase ball speed. a sole rail design extends from the leading to trailing edge which lowers the CG to increase launch and ball speed.

How does it feel? The C524 produced a lively and solid thud with a reasonably high-pitched impact noise. It wasn't too high, but it was noticeably higher Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Family or the TaylorMade Qi10 range . The “E” in its name stands for Extreme Spec, meaning it’s designed to help average golfers to the extreme. Whereas the E in the E723 stands for Extreme Spec, the C in the C723 stands for Competition Spec, meaning this driver is for more advanced players. Despite this, out of the box, we found it to be one of the most adjustable player’s drivers on the market, with this low-spin model loaded with tech.

We thought the aesthetics were stealthy and attractive to look at when addressed behind the ball. The darker band down the middle nicely frames the alignment you want to swing through, with the thin titanium ridgeback spine running from the center of the face and crown.

Performance-wise, we found there to be a lot of adjustability options and, when we swapped the standard 5-gram front and 15-gram rear weights, it resulted in a change of around 300rpm of spin. We could also slide the rear CG weight to one of five positions which influenced a fade or draw up to seven yards. On the course, this driver felt extremely solid with respect to feel and impact sound - a box that all the best golf drivers tick.

The Tour Edge Exotics E722 driver was designed to offer golfers the ultimate in playability and forgiveness. Keying that performance is a low, deep CG placement that has been made possible by a lightweight carbon fiber crown and a 30-gram fixed weight in the back of the sole. Tour Edge developed with the E522 driver with slicers in mind. To help those golfers combat that frustrating miss, the E522 has an offset hosel design, a more upright lie angle, and internal weighting that has been moved toward the heel to make it easier for players to square the clubface at impact. In our testing, all of those features combined to effectively do the job, as we found it difficult on the course to move the ball significantly from left to right no matter how hard we tried to hit a slice.

The E522 has other performance attributes as well. It fared especially well in testing from a dispersion standpoint on off-center strikes, and it also offered effortlessly high launch conditions, which will be a bonus for golfers with more moderate swing speeds. The E522 is on the louder, high-pitched side at impact and it doesn't feature an adjustable hosel to utilize for fine-tuning ball flight, but at its highly competitive price point, some sacrifices should be expected.

The E723 is an ultra-premium, very sleek-looking, game-improvement iron that is loaded with technology. The most notable aspect of technology is Tour Edge's VIBRCOR – which is a TPU that’s strategically injected into the hollow body, deep 360-degree undercut pocket to provide excellent feel.

In testing, we were extremely impressed with the forgiveness on offer. Regardless of where the ball was struck, the VIBRCOR on the back of the clubhead and the Diamond Face VFT, which comprises 92 diamond shapes of three different thicknesses behind the face, meant it was extremely lively on the expanded sweet spot.

At address, we thought that the look was very confidence-inspiring. Most notably, there’s a slight bulge low and an inviting amount of offset, with a thick topline also giving freedom to swing hard at the ball. In testing, it was super easy to hit and the shots got airborne with distance very well.

The C723 also features VIBRCOR technology like we see in the E723, but the C723 is designed for the slightly more confident ball striker, with the most notable differences being the smaller clubhead, thinner top line and shorter blade length.

We found it still had full-face forgiveness and ball speed though, with the Diamond Face VFT also present throughout. Again, in testing, the impact experience was certainly very addictive, with the ball springing off the face with a powerful yet subtle sensation. Importantly, it was not too loud or harsh and we thought it was comparable with the best compact mid-handicap irons .

As mentioned, it is slightly smaller at address, but Tour Edge have constructed the C723 out of high-strength, military grade maraging steel. This helps make way for a significantly thinner face, the thinnest in any Exotics iron ever and also helped dramatically increase face flex across a larger surface area of the clubface. This meant we were able to eke out a lot of distance when struck properly.

Tour Edge believes its Exotics E722 iron is as good as it gets in the game-improvement category and there is certainly a lot to like about what this iron has to offer. First and foremost, it’s incredibly forgiving. The E722 features extreme toe weighting to create a larger sweet spot and its 360 undercut design allows the face to flex more at impact to not only promote naturally high launch but also protect ball speed on low-face strikes.

The E722 irons also were designed with the Diamond Face VFT face technology that the Exotics 722 driver lineup utilizes so successfully. More specifically, 103 diamond-shaped sections are positioned in varying degrees of thickness across the clubface to promote faster ball speeds from all impact locations. I posted a new topic on them trying to get opinions and reviews on them.

think about the amount of money you are going to spend on clones. if you are serious about golf you will want a new set in a year and a half probably. why not spend the money now to get a good set that you probably will be spending in a year and a half anyway. you dont need high end equipment to get good at all, but i think there are 3 turns you can make...2 good one bad. the 2 good being used clubs, or new low end clubs from a reputable company. one bad turn would be "clones" like these. The pinemeadow are very nice, but what your looking at is no where near that in my opinion. The adams set you posted would be a perfect starter set. goodluck.

Just a word of advice. I was in the same boat as you at the beginning of last season, in fact, I have a post on here regarding clones that got a crap load of input from people. I purchased a set of clone Ping G10 irons for under $200 bucks and 3 weeks later I found a real G10 set on craigslist that was barely used for $250. So, I actually spent more money than I initially wanted to. I say that, to say this.... go ahead and browse the market for a lightly used set of quality clubs for your first set and save yourself the second guessing that WILL come when you buy clones, depsite how the club functions. I still believe clones are "good enough" clubs, but I must admit that the real thing does feel/fly a bit better (could be mental though).

Heck, I'm thinking about selling my Pings now and getting AP2s. Good thing is, I will be able to get all of my money back for my Pings, maybe even make a little.

I’m new here but not new to club making. There is no one answer to if clones are as good as the brand names or not.

Historically when forged irons were the benchmark of quality clubs it was all in the quality of the steel and the makers ability to match the right shaft to achive best swing weight and lie for the individual player. When investment castings for irons and wood heads came in to vogue is when it became practical for cones to compete with major brands.

The reason for this is that almost none of the major brands actually cast their heads. The major brands will design the head then turn the proof over to a foundry to produce the raw casting. This has lead to a lot of copies made by the foundries with lesser grade casting materials and sold to the clone market for a fraction of the price they are paid by the brand name club companies. Typically the major brands will trademark and or paten the major features to prevent copping of proprietary designs. However one single small change in the features of the irons overall design can keep a cone company outside the patens restrictions.

There are very good clones, there are cones that actually better playing clubs for a given section of the market and then there are really bad clones. In this day and age most clones in the ½ off the brand name price range tend to be pretty good clubs over all. The ones that are in the 1/3rd of brand name price range are hit and miss and the ones less than 1/3 rd the price tend to be crap. Back in the day when the majority of Golfsmith’s business was cloning clubs they set the standard for quality clones by engineering their clones honestly compete with the major brands. However they saw the ever changing technology revolution coming and got out of the clone market for the most part while the getting was good.

All this said you can take a top quality clone set of irons and with detailed attention to weighting and fitting you can make a set of irons worthy of praise. But that is the real key that most Sunday golfers forget. Even the brand name manufactures build clubs built for a 5’11”, 190lb player with ground to wrist distance of 35”-35 ½” and a swing speed with a driver of 80-90mph. So if you don’t fit very closely in this niche then the clubs regardless if clone of major brand don’t really fit you ideally. One of the biggest issues I see in regards to mid to high handicap players is shaft flex and shaft length. Everyone wants XS printed on the label of a 46 ½” driver shaft. Even when they are 5’8, 135lb and have 75 mph driver club head speed. Macho will always be macho even at their own expense.

So here is my take. If you want to save some money find a top raked clone you like at about 1/2 the price of a top line major brand. Buy just the heads and then go to your local club maker and have them fit the clubs to you and your swing. You will end up paying about ¼ (or more) less than the cost the major brand names and have a set of clubs that you can swing consistently. What I am saying it is just as important to spend a bit of money to get your clubs fitted to your body and swing speed as it is to buy a good club. Regardless if it is a clone or a brand name.

By the way fitting is something that really needs to be done in person. IMO fitting by internet is an oxymoron.

I purchased the Ti11 from Monark Golf just as the last comment stated. He is correct. I even joke that I am hitting with a Folger's coffee can on a stick. I hate the sound. With that said, I have never hit a driver longer or straighter. I am 5' 9' tall with a swing speed just a tick under 100. I can consistently drive the ball 290+ with boomers in the 320 range with the right conditions. I joke with my gof buddies about the sound. They say wear earplugs and enjoy the view. Take it for what it is worth.

The one thing you get from Cool Clubs is peace of mind. Knowing they are going to look at every iron in that set and know it's gapped properly. Knowing that every frequency in that shaft is going to be the same. And knowing that they have meticulously gone through every club to make sure it is perfect for you. Half the price will get you the same clubs, but are the shaft frequencies the same and are they all set up to the right loft/lies? Well, that would be up to the brand.

Short answer - no. Not worth it unless you play every weekend for serious money and fame.

I don't play for serious money or every weekend, yet I went to Cool Clubs to get fitted after reading reviews of the various fitters in my area. I looked at it this way, spend a good amount now and know I wont be replacing any time soon. Not sure why taylorx300 said no. Price is very subjective and what is expensive to me, might not be to another person. CoolClubs doesnt charge anymore for the head than other retailers, you can even compare. If you don't want to spend the dough at CC, take the specs they give you and see if another retailer will build that setup and see what the price is. You could always go with OTR and have them bent/fit to the specs CC recommended. At the time, I had my tax return along with some extra money saved up so I figured I could spend a good amount of money on a set of clubs. I had never been fit, always played hand-me-downs and wanted something really nice. The choice is yours, you'll get both spectrum on this board. I feel more, lean towards CC is very expensive and not worth it, but a lot on the board agree with fitting. What cool clubs did you go to if you dont mind me asking?

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

I bought my first new set of irons in a very long time this season, instead of a used set from here or eBay. I thought spending retail on fittes Pings (luckily I had about half of it in shop credit) would quench my Ho-ness. Just when I really got in the groove with them, what do you think I did today? Brought out the Cally X Protos that had been hibernating, thinking "man my swing is so grooved I bet it's time to try those blades again!" Long story short, it's hard to suppress the urge to try something new. In hindsight, I wish I didn't spend 800 retail since I could have eventually found them used for quite a bit less and even sent back to Ping for my specs. Cool Clubs is great, but hard to justify double retail.

No; It is not worth it. I did the fitting some time ago. While I was not pleased with the fitting itself in my situation; I would never have paid the prices they wanted for the equipment. Sorry...Unless you are good enough to notice extreme precision, then I cannot see how it would ever be justified. For my personal experience, my clubs at the time came out as being the best fit for me - As they were; guess what, they tried selling me their clubs. Then when that didn't work, tried to have me buy shafts from them at $110 each.

I appreciate all the responses. It seems like the consensus here is unless you are playing for some serious money (and a damn good golfer), the extra work they do on the clubs isn't worth it.

the only question is, is it worth it TO YOU? see you know the DIFFERENCE, and you WANT the difference.... question is are you willing to pay for it and not be bothered by that. it would be like you wanted a road car for only a weekend cruiser. well a fully loaded Mustang would do anybody just fine.... but see you KNOW about fast cars. so you see that car being a Roush Racing Mustang. the extra cost is always inherit with that "next" level of exclusivity in things. but is it really that big of a deal if that's what you want?

There was no value whatsoever in paying 3x for the equipment I use. And your logic of the hacker benefiting more is extremely faulty....i have seen this first hand with a few people here in town. The information provided in the fitting is what has the value! If one is hell bent on trying to get precision, you can take the clubs you like OTR(or ordered) to any reputable clubmaker and they can get them adjusted to what the fitting readout provided [u]without[/u] paying 3-4x the price. Heck, if you spend some time, you can get some of your customization done ordering from the manufacturer. .

[/quote] 3 - Players who have accomplished quite a bit in this game, yet feel that paying $800 over retail just to have L/L/L, weight, and shaft frequencies verified is laughable. I am all for fittings, believe me. But double the retail price is more than excessive. A better result can easily be accomplished by doing the following. Buy the $800 set new (or even better, lightly used for $550). Take them to a club builder (we have one of the best in the business in Memphis, so we're spoiled) and pay him to tear the clubs down and spec them. That cost is between $150-300 (depending on if you need grips changed) and you are guaranteed to have a perfectly built set of clubs for less than $1,000. That would save you $600 since you already have your specs.

I have had custom clubs come from the manufacturer incorrect. Swing weights off, grips crooked, lies and lofts off. When your 9 iron is a degree strong and your wedge is one weak you would never know to the naked eye. Just leaves you scratching your head as to why you have more of a gap there than normal.

[/quote] Roush Racing, Shelby, etc upgrade the car throughout with lots and lots of parts. A better analogy would be paying double the price of a Mustang to have a third party company called "Cool Cars" ensure the wheels are perfectly balanced and the alignment absolute.

I find it odd, that on this website, you have a group of people who say something like cool clubs is excessive, expensive, and overpriced. Yet, going to the SC Studio to have a fitting and 2K custom putter made is not overpriced, excessive or expensive.

Isnt perfectly fit clubs more important to the better player? Id assume fitting a hack is almost worthless given they may put a different move on the ball each swing. Maybe im wrong. I would personally buy the clubs elsewhere and take the specs to a good builder. Im in the group that cant afford double the price nor do i think the benefit would be worth it for me.

Introduction

If you ever stand on the range at a PGA Tour event, you’ll notice that all the players create a lot of “width” at the top of their swings – lead arms straight and extended away from their bodies. Go to your local driving range and you’ll see the opposite – arms bent at all angles. The Sure-Golf Tour-Feel is a straightforward training aid that will help you find that Tour-style position so you can add more power and consistency to your swing.

Set Up & Ease of Use

The Sure-Golf Tour-Feel training aid is not complicated to use, but it requires some instruction the first time through . By following the QR code on the packaging, you’ll find the six training videos. Learning how to assemble and wear the Tour-Feel is essential. Beyond that, the videos get pretty repetitive, though there is value in being reminded that change will not happen overnight.

Subsequent uses of the Tour-Feel are quick and easy . Sliding it on takes just a few seconds, and there isn’t much fine tuning required. There are three settings for “difficulty,” and players should be able to quickly determine which one they need for their swing.

Effectiveness

The Sure-Golf Tour-Feel teaches players to keep their lead arm straight so they can have “Tour-level width.” Having a straight arm should improve consistency by removing the variables of how much and when your arm bends. The Tour-Feel teaches this by connecting an elastic band to your thumb, forcing you to actively straighten your lead arm throughout the swing.

What I like most about the Tour-Feel is that it reinforces the correct motion by resisting it rather than forcing you into it . Trainers that restrict your movement and force you into the correct positions ultimately fail because they don’t teach you to make those motions on your own. The Tour-Feel is the opposite – it makes the correct motion harder, forcing you to actively work to create it on your own.

My primary concern about the Tour-Feel is that golfers who bend their lead arm do so for a reason. It could be a lack of rotation or something else, but that bent arm is part of a larger whole. Changing this one element will require changes elsewhere that may be difficult for them to make or even understand without individualized instruction. This could lead to frustration and dismissal of the Tour-Feel.

The Sure-Golf Tour-Feel offers three levels of resistance , indicated by the three colored thumb loops. You can pick your level based on your physical strength, how much feedback you want, and how far you are from the straight arm ideal. At the highest level, I found the feedback to be moderate , enhancing my errors and awareness of them.

Though it’s not a focus on their website, I’ll note that I found the Sure-Golf Tour-Feel very beneficial in the short game . I don’t have any issue keeping my arms straight in the full swing, but I can get crumpled around the greens. Hooking up the Tour-Feel was a good reminder to keep my body moving, even on short chip shots.

Finally, the Sure-Golf Tour-Feel almost got an A+ for avoiding overhyped, BS claims . The product page states that you’ll achieve an “effortless repeatable swing that naturally transitions from practice to play,” but this is pretty mild by training aid standards. And I’ll note again that the training videos do a good job reinforcing the idea that real change takes time.

Overall, the Sure-Golf Tour-Feel is a bit above average for longevity . On the plus side, the product itself is well made, and there’s nothing about the way it’s used that should cause it to wear out. Also, it’s small and can live in your golf bag. The Tour-Feel has the versatility to work indoors and outdoors . You could even use it to make swings without hitting a ball.

The biggest knock on the Sure-Golf Tour-Feel is that it’s very close to being a unitasker . What it teaches is important, but not everyone needs it. Also, there’s no gamification. Finally, though it’s not overly conspicuous, some golfers may feel self conscious wearing it at the driving range.

This is slightly below average in price for a training aid, and I think the Tour-Feel is worth the money for players with bent arms. I like its approach to training, and it can be used in a variety of settings. Importantly, the Tour-Feel works for both right and left handed players.

For players with bent arms who are willing to put some time and effort into their practice, the Sure-Golf Tour-Feel training aid is worth adding to the kit. This trainer can go anywhere and will enhance your short game as well as your full swing.
