A 10,000 square foot Hello Kitty pop-up has landed in Bellevue

This pop-up may be in downtown Bellevue, but pack your bags and grab a passport - and you're headed on an adventure around the globe. It's the purrfect way to celebrate an icon, called Hello Kitty.

Originally created in Japan, the character starting sharing her message of friendship in 1974. Since then, her popularity has exploded. Her official ambassador Ivan Garcia shared some of the meowvelous highlights in this interactive world, spanning 10,000 square feet.

"We bring people in through five stages," he said. London, Paris, New York City, Honolulu and then Tokyo.

We started by kickin' it in Hello Kitty's home base: her bedroom in London. It was a great way to get a sense of what it feels like to start the day - Kitty style. From grooming, to choosing an outfit.

All that jet lag can make a cat tired, so we stopped at a cafe in Paris for some espresso.

Next up, we touched down in New York and took a taxi cab ride to the Big Apple, where we found some fans having fun.

"No matter what age you are, you just have fun with her," said one. "And you just feel like you are a little kid in her own world."

"Oh it’s been amazing," another fan agreed. "The setup is really great! I think they worked really hard to set everything up. She’s already tuckered out from running around and taking pictures everywhere so we’ve loved it so far."

Then it was time to travel to a tropical paradise. Grab some poke and hit the waves...

In Tokyo - we hopped a train to meet up with Hello Kitty herself.

"You can’t come in here with a bad attitude," said Garcia. "People are amazed by all the photo opportunities we have. Obviously meeting Hello Kitty in the flesh - so people’s energy just makes it a fun super cute time."

Hello Kitty is the cat's meow, but want to know a super cute fun fact? According to parent company Sanrio, she's actually a little girl!

And...ever wonder how she talks?

"A lot people don’t know that Hello Kitty doesn’t have a mouth," said Garcia. "Because she speaks from her heart, which gets me all the time."

Once the tour is over, you end up in baggage claim - AKA the gift shop. Duffle bags, Funko figures, bracelets, jackets - you name it.

"We’re keeping it super cute," said Garcia. If you haven't noticed, "super cute" is a recurring theme.

"Everything Hello Kitty has to be super cute. That’s the way we do it around here," he said.

After all that celebrating, it was time to relax with a snack in the Hello Kitty Lodge.

"We’ve got a lot of adults – super fans – ya know, back [for her 45th anniversary]," said Garcia. "And now kids that are just being introduced to her - it’s been a great time.

One thing is for sure: after 45 years Hello Kitty's popularity is just as furocious as ever!

Interactive Hello Kitty World Tour Exhibit Hosted in Bellevue through Dec 29

In celebration of Hello Kitty’s 45th anniversary, Sanrio has created an interactive exhibit, Hello Kitty Friends Around the World Tour . Everyone is invited to travel around the globe with Hello Kitty and her friends.

The 10,000 square foot pop-up, that takes place at 44 Bellevue Way Northeast (where the old Sports Authority was located), travels through five different cities that are interactive rooms. Each participant receives a passport that gets stamped as visits take place in London, Paris, New York, Honolulu and Tokyo. The tour includes a sweet treat at a Parisian bakery and concludes at Baggage Claim, where there is a gift shop for souvenirs.

The tour began last week and goes until December 29. Hello Flights, Friendship Flights and Tour Flights are available for purchase . Tours happen daily and vary in price and time depending on the day. The Hello Kitty experience lasts for 45 minutes.

This is the second stop for Hello Kitty Friends Around the World Tour.

Hello Kitty Is Going On A ‘Friends Around The World’ Tour And The First Stop Is In LA!

Hello Kitty is going on a world tour and she’s bringing some friends along!

In celebration of her 45th “ anniversary ” – because you’re never to assume a woman’s age – Hello Kitty is taking flight with some of her best pals for the Friends Around The World tour. And it just so happens that the festivities kick off here in the City of Angels Sanrio-lovers !

The oh-so-Kawaii Kitty is landing her “immersive, multisensory, walkthrough” experience at the new LA Plaza Village – right on the edge of Chinatown. Just like any other pop-up that has made its way to L.A., you’re going to want to make sure you have a full charge for all the many ‘instagrammable’ moments in store!

Guests will have the pleasure of navigating through five different “places around the globe” like Hello Kitty’s house in London, a Parisian bakery (filled with delectable treats of course), as well as some of HK’s favorite travel destinations like New York, Honolulu, and Tokyo! Expect to see an assortment of Kitty’s friends scattered throughout the rooms… or “world,” rather. The final stop drops off at baggage claim , the pop-up’s very own souvenir shop where ‘travelers’ can find limited-edition collaborations with Girl Skateboards, Hershel Supply Co. and Levi’s!

Ticket prices for the timed experience vary depending on the date and hour you wish to visit – megafans can even opt-in for “after hours” treatment and unspecified gift. Hello Kitty’s Friends Around The World Tour will be boarding from September 20 through October 20, so be sure to grab your tickets while they’re still available!

Sanrio Store - Japanese Village Plaza

Your destination for all things “small gift, big smile,” the Sanrio Store in Little Tokyo (115 Japanese Village Plaza Mall, Los Angeles 90012) celebrated its grand re-opening in August 2019. Shop here for all your Sanrio needs from favorites like Hello Kitty, My Melody, Chococat, Keroppi, and newer additions to the HK fam like Gudetama and Aggretsuko. You never know who you’re going to run into at the Sanrio Store, as both Gudetama and Aggretsuko have been known to make special in-person appearances. Hello Kitty Hollywood - Hollywood & Highland

For the ultimate Sanrio shopping experience, fans can't miss the company’s second flagship store in the heart of Hollywood. Located at Hollywood & Highland , the Hello Kitty Hollywood Store (6801 Hollywood Blvd. Ste. 277, Los Angeles 90028) carries vintage items, the latest merchandise with your favorite characters, food, and photo opportunities for the 'gram. Calling all karaoke stars, your cover of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” just got even more supercute as you can now sing your heart out in one of three Hello Kitty-themed rooms at Energy Bistro & Karaoke in Alhambra (33 E Valley Blvd, 206-210). You can jam to your favorite songs in five other specially themed Sanrio rooms. When singing stirs up an appetite, choose from a variety of Sanrio-inspired sweet and savory food items, including Hello Kitty shrimp tempura bao set or the Gudetama temaki sushi hand roll set with three different kinds of eggs — tamago, masago, and quail. There's also an Energy Bistro & Karaoke in Hacienda Heights (2020 S Hacienda Blvd, Unit K).

Parklane Dental

It’s safe to say everyone would learn proper dental hygiene techniques if we were taught by Hello Kitty and her supercute Sanrio friends. Well, at Parklane Dental (9636 Las Tunas Dr, Temple City 91780), you can learn how to brush with My Melody, floss with Little Twin Stars, and rinse with Keroppi. That’s right, Hello Kitty and her friends are moonlighting as dentists and hygienists at the first-ever Hello Kitty-themed dental office in the U.S.

Hello Kitty and friends are now taking appointments at Parklane Dental on Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Call (626) 247-4788 to make an appointment and book your Hello Kitty or Gudetama-themed treatment room.

Hello Kitty Grand Café

Your Southern California Sanrio experience isn’t complete without a road trip to the pretty pink Hello Kitty Grand Cafe at Irvine Spectrum Center (860 Irvine Center Dr, Irvine 92618). Here you’ll find all the supercute and super delicious treats you can eat, like freshly baked cookies, cakes, donuts, and handmade hot and iced drinks. Try Hello Kitty-themed macarons, a selection of beautifully made cakes, and mini cakes inspired by other Sanrio characters. If you’re so inspired, you won’t be alone if you visit the café in your best Hello Kitty-inspired attire.

Pro tip: In The Bow Room , you can experience a traditional Afternoon Tea service during daylight hours. Cocktails are served after 5 p.m. for 21+ guests. Wine is available all day. You haven’t truly lived until you’ve tried the Hello Kitty sparkling rosé! Reservations are required for Afternoon Tea or Cocktail services in The Bow Room. Tanaka Farms

Also located in Irvine, Tanaka Farms (5380 3/4 University Dr.) launched a collaboration with Sanrio in 2017 that features Hello Kitty and her Sanrio friends as ambassadors to the farm, teaching visitors of all ages about healthy eating, sustainability, responsible farming, and agriculture. Year-long photo opportunities and seasonal activities have included Hello Kitty, Keroppi, Chococat, My Melody, and Pochacco. You can also add to your Sanrio collection by snagging limited edition Sanrio+Tanaka Farms merchandise . This unique partnership will be coming to an end soon, don't miss out!

Is mid-2019 a little late to be getting into the Insta-room game? It sure is. But will we make an exception for Hello Kitty? Mostly.

The supercute Sanrio mascot is celebrating her 45th anniversary with what’s being billed as an “immersive, multisensory, walkthrough experience.” Translation: A pop-up of Instagrammable Hello Kitty-themed rooms. You’ll navigate through five different spaces on this tour around the world: Hello Kitty’s house in London, a Parisian bakery serving cookues from the Hello Kitty Cafe, New York, Honolulu and Tokyo, all with an assortment of Sanrio characters and photo ops sprinkled throughout. And, of course, the trip wraps up at “baggage claim”—a souvenir shop that includes collaborations with Girl Skateboards, Herschel Supply Co. and Levi’s.

So is it worth a visit? We’d say that mostly depends on how big of a Hello Kitty fan you are. The murals are super cute and the nail art stations are neat, plus there’s plenty of merch available. But the offerings feel a little thin for the price, with limited interactive elements—depending on how crowded it is inside, we can’t imagine spending any more than a half hour there. You’ll find light snacks like popcorn and cotton candy for sale in the cafe, but only some free cookies inside the installations. We’d say this one is more for the Hello Kitty diehards (which, hey, is a lot of us).

You’ll find the pop-up at the new LA Plaza Village (555 N Spring St) development on the edge of Chinatown. The price for timed tickets varies depending on the day of the week and time. Spots for Monday through Wednesday cost $27, while Thursday through Sunday is $30. If you want the after-hours treatment, there’s a $50 ticket for access at 9pm from Thursday to Saturday that includes an unspecified gift.

If you ever wanted to visit the Hello Kitty Cafe on wheels, this year might be the perfect opportunity! The Sanrio characters will be making several stops in different U.S. cities during the spring and summer seasons, offering the yummiest and sweetest treats.

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck started its journey back in 2014. The enormous success of this mobile shop later led to the creation of the first Hello Kitty Cafe Pop-Up Container and the Hello Kitty Mini Cafe installed within malls and centers across the country.

Nowadays, there are two Hello Kitty — mainly pink — vehicles that tour the U.S. giving Americans a better chance to enjoy this experience.

Hello kitty cafe truck tour rolls into carlsbad this weekend, the pop-up event will feature edible goodies and limited-edition collectibles..

CARLSBAD, CA — The popular Hello Kitty Cafe Pop-Up Truck is cruising across the country in 2024 — and the tour is stopping three times in San Diego County.

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck will stop Saturday at The Shoppes at Carlsbad. Two more visits are planned in the San Diego area, with the tour stopping Feb. 24 at Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista and March 2 at Fashion Valley in San Diego.

The all-pink cafe on wheels will carry exclusive treats and collectibles celebrating all things Hello Kitty. During the pop-up events, fans can purchase edible goodies and limited-edition collectibles, including Hello Kitty-themed apparel, as well as home goods and accessories.

The merchandise list features a Hello Kitty hoodie, T-shirt, canvas tote, cup plush, glass mug, lunchbox, stainless steel thermal bottle, and hand-decorated cookie sets. Only credit and debit cards will be accepted, according to organizers.

This is not the first year Hello Kitty has hit the road. The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck made its debut in October 2014 as part of Sanrio's first food-related venture. To date, two Hello Kitty Cafe trucks have traveled to more than 100 cities across both coasts, according to organizers.

As part of the current tour, the truck will stop in Carlsbad from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at The Shoppes at Carlsbad at 2525 El Camino Real. The truck will be located near the Regal Cinemas and Luna Grill.

The truck will also stop in Chula Vista from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 24 at the covered food pavilion at Otay Ranch Town Center at 2015 Bird Road. The truck will again stop in San Diego from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 2 at Fashion Valley at 7007 Friars Road. The truck will be located near Bloomingdales and Forever 21.
