ASBR Divisions

ASBR League Divisions

Arlington Senior Babe Ruth offers a Spring season, Summer All-Stars and Fall Ball. For more details, please click the individual tabs listed above.

Spring Season Leagues

  • Prep – 13 year-olds
  • Alliance – 14/15 year-olds who are not playing on a high school baseball team. Players who are 14 and planning to tryout for their high school team should register for the Alliance League. We will gladly move players to American (with our congratulations!) when they join their high school teams.
  • American – 14-16-year-olds. The ASBR American League is an excellent opportunity for high school players to play locally with other high school players immediately following the high school season. Babe Ruth National recently expanded this division to include 16-year-old players. These players also will be eligible for the summer all-stars team in this age division.
  • Senior – 16-18 year-olds

Summer All-Stars and Tournament Teams

  • 13, 14, 15 and 16 year-old All-Stars
  • 13 year-old Travel, 14-16-year-old Travel when there is opportunity
  • 16-18 Senior League All-Stars, when there is opportunity

Fall Ball Leagues

  • Roberto Clemente Division - 13/14 year-olds
  • Jackie Robinson Division - 15-18 year-olds

This game-only league will run from mid-September to early-November. It will be the first exposure to the 90-foot diamond for many rising 13-year-olds. This league will pair 13s and 14s and will offer two games a week in Arlington. Participation in the Fall Ball program will not affect eligibility for the Spring regular season or the Summer All-Star season. However, it will provide an excellent opportunity for players to gain experience on the larger diamond and to play with friends.

Winter Training

ASBR will offer winter training opportunities for registered players at the GW indoor club house and cages, Marymount University facilities, and also outdoors when weather permits.

Arlington United Travel Baseball

13-15 year-olds, year-round practice and play

Arlington United is the travel baseball partner program of Arlington Senior Babe Ruth. United schedules are integrated with ASBR schedules to allow players who desire additional baseball opportunities to play both with their peers in recreational league while also receiving additional instruction and game play through a travel experience. Most Senators coaches are former college players and games are typically played against teams in the Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League.

United will hold tryouts for their rising 13 year-old teams in early spring. Older teams also will tryout in the spring. All players—returning and new—are required to tryout.

Players who desire a robust spring baseball experience should plan to sign up for ASBR and tryout for All-Stars, and/or United in the spring. The programs complement one another. ASBR All-Stars require players to join an ASBR spring team.

Seasons of Play

Spring season.

Spring Season baseball begins with practices in early March and games starting in late March or early April. Registration opens at the end of the prior fall season. ABR offers baseball programs for kids ages 4 to 12 years old. The “baseball age” birthdate is determined by the player’s age on April 30th of the spring season.

Our goal is to provide players with a fun and social baseball experience. Younger levels will be structured to provide as many “touch opportunities” as possible. Older levels will emphasize skill development. We encourage neighborhood teams and give players the opportunity to enjoy baseball with friends and schoolmates. Registering early—before rosters fill—is the best way to help make this happen.

Every child placed on team based on age & skill level – division overlap and customized rules for each division assures each child will play where he/she will be most successful.  Small teams and play rules assure player participation.

ABR is among the lowest cost youth sports programs in the area and includes full uniforms for Blastball through AAA divisions. All players will receive a Washington Nationals shirt and cap. Financial aid is available.

For more information on the different levels ABR has to offer click here.

Summer Ball

Ages 7-10 Summer   Play Season

The Summer Play program is a commitment by ABR to provide summer baseball opportunities to as many players as want to play after the end of the Spring season. The goal will be to create as many teams as needed to allow all who are interested to participate. The emphasis will be to continue to develop skills that were learned in the Spring season and continue to improve baseball fundamentals. Players will be placed on teams with other players from the same neighborhood or school district to the extent possible. These teams will compete against each other and may also have joint practices and instructional clinics at no additional expense to the participants. The season begins in early July and continues through late July or early August. Team jerseys and hats will be provided by ABR; players will provide their own gray baseball pants.

Fall Ball is an instructional season that emphasizes learning and developing skills in a less competitive environment than Spring baseball. Players are encouraged to sharpen their skills, try new positions, and have fun!

Fall Ball usually consists of one practice and one game per week. Most games for T-Ball through AAA will be on Saturdays. Most Majors games will be played on a weeknight. The goal of Fall Ball is to focus on instruction, allow players to rotate into new positions, transition to new divisions, and work on refining baseball fundamentals.

ABR offers Tball, Coach pitch (A and AA), AAA (1st year and 2nd year player pitch) and Majors (46/60 and 50/70) in the fall.

ABR Storm travel teams may participate in Northern Virginia Travel Baseball league during the Fall. These players use the Fall to continue to compete against higher levels of competition in NVTBL.  Storm players are not required to participate in the Fall season, but it is strongly encouraged for continued development.
