The best 3×3 teams in the world, ready to rock in Abu Dhabi

The best 12 teams from FIBA 3×3 World Tour will gather for the second consecutive year in Abu Dhabi for the FIBA 3×3 World Tour final. The event will take place in the iconic International Tennis Centre from Zayed Sports City, on 27-28 October.

Following the Master Americas, the last of the seventh FIBA 3×3 World Tour tournaments from 2016, Chicago was the team gaining a spot in the big final as the winner of the tournament.

Chicago joined Caguas (PUR), Novi Sad Al Wahda (UAE), Ljubljana (SLO) and Saskatoon (CAN) as the five teams which qualified by winning a Masters.

The other 7 finalists earned their ticket because they finished in the Top 12 in the World Tour season standings. They are: Gdansk (POL, 6th), São Paulo DC (BRA, 7th), Piran (SLO, 8th), St Petersburg (RUS, 9th), Hamamatsu (JPN, 10th), Kranj (SLO, 11th) and Belgrade (SRB, 12th).

FIBA 3x3 World Tour Abu Dhabi Final: Schedule - how to watch live and preview

The coveted Finals crown as well as Paris 2024 ranking points will be on the line as the 3x3 World Tour heads to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 10-11 December for the season decider streaming live on Olympics.com.

After a thrilling, action-packed season the FIBA 3x3 Basketball World Tour will reach its conclusion with a grand final in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from 10-11 December.

Yas Island, home of the world-famous Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix, will host the Tour’s top 12 teams who have all been invited to compete in the season-ending event based on the points they successfully accumulated throughout the year.

The seeding for the competition has been determined based on overall ranking points.

Every team will play each other once in their pools with only the winner and runners-up advancing. A quarterfinals and semi-finals will then take place followed by a final, where a winner will ultimately be crowned.

The Abu Dhabi World Tour Final will also serve as another opportunity for teams to earn points towards qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games .

The Federation Ranking list, calculated based on the points collected by a National Olympic Committee’s top 25 national players competing in FIBA-endorsed events, will be used to determine the first three quota spots for Paris and eligibility for subsequent Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.

3x3 World Tour Final Abu Dhabi: Teams to watch

With six different winners across the 11 regular season tour spots the competition for the season finale crown on Yas Island will be fierce.

Ub, led by world number one Strahinja Stojacic , go into the final as the number one seeds owing largely to their blistering season start. The Serbs won four consecutive Masters titles beginning at the season opener in Utsunomiya, demonstrating to the rest of the field that when they are firing, they are nearly impossible to stop.

Though a second-half season lull may have meant they haven’t clinched a tour stop win since August, Ub are welcoming back Nemanja Barac to the fold meaning they’ll have their best line-up heading into Abu Dhabi and will certainly be ones to look out for as the event ramps up.

Other outfits that stand to go the distance include number two seeds Liman and Latvia’s Olympic gold medal winning team Riga.

Liman will arrive as the defending World Tour champions, and with a win in Utrecht under their belts, the side feature two members of Serbia’s Olympic bronze medal winning team from Tokyo 2020 will be well fancied in Dubai.

Riga, meanwhile, come to Yas Island buoyed by one of the most impressive winning streaks in the 3x3 history.

Their 27-game winning run, which was broken just two weeks ago at the regular season final in Hong Kong, China, reflects the strength of their late-season surge Riga have enjoyed ever since Karlis Lasmanis came back into the team. Wins in Montreal, Cebu and Riyadh make the Latvians the second-most successful team on the tour after Ub, meaning if they can get out of their pool they'll have winning experience to back them all the way.

ABU DHABI (United Arab Emirates) - The field is set for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final 2022, which will take place in Abu Dhabi on December 10-11. The final will feature the best 12 teams of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour regular season, which started with the Utsunomiya Opener (Japan) on May 14-15. Following the conclusion of the Hong Kong Masters, we can now officially announce the World Tour 2022 finalists. 1. Ub Huishan NE (SRB) 2. Liman (SRB) 3. Antwerp (BEL) 4. Riga (LAT) 5. Vienna (AUT) 6. Amsterdam HiPRO (NED) 7. Sakiai Gulbele (LTU) 8. Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy (MGL) 9. Princeton (USA) 10. Omaha 3Ball (USA) 11. Utrecht (NED) 12. Lausanne Sport (SUI) Liman (SRB) and Riga (LAT) are tied with the longest active streak of World Tour Final appearances with 6 consecutive trips. Omaha 3Ball (USA) and Utrecht (NED) will make their World Tour Final debut in Abu Dhabi. The FIBA 3x3 World Tour is back in Abu Dhabi after two successful Finals in the United Arab Emirates capital in 2015 and 2016. Novi Sad (SRB) and Ljubljana (SLO) won these two editions, respectively. Abu Dhabi also hosted a Masters last year, which crowned Riga (LAT).  The 2022 Final will be staged on Yas Island, a very popular leisure island, which is home to many entertainment facilities and sporting events, such as the Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. FIBA 3x3 World Tour Abu Dhabi Masters 2023 is back

Al Ain will be bouncing with energy next month, as the return of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Abu Dhabi Masters has been slated for 28-29 October 2023.

Taking place outside the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium – an architectural masterpiece and iconic sporting venue of the city – the UAE will once again see the world’s elite 3x3 basketballers, including Olympic medallists and professional basketball stars, battle it out on court ahead of the World Tour Finals in early December.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council is proud to welcome the qualifying teams and event organisers to Al Ain, with the city growing its event and sporting calendar at a rapid pace. It is a true testament to ADSC’s commitment to deliver world-class sporting events across the emirate.

While the full teams list is yet to be announced, there will of course be no shortage of talent. The World Tour roster is jam-packed with the biggest international stars and the most electric players the sport has to offer. Keep an eye out here for team announcements very soon.

One of the unique experiences which organisers continue to offer UAE residents is the chance for amateur teams to compete in the 3x3 Community Basketball Championship. Driven by ADSC’s passion to grow the game and make it easily accessible to the community, amateur teams from across the country are encouraged to sign up for this year’s competition and stand a chance at winning some exceptional prizes. Suhail Al Arifi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “We are delighted to once again welcome the FIBA 3X3 World Tour series to the capital, in cooperation with the International Basketball Federation. Hosting this year’s event in the magnificent city of Al Ain outlines our commitment to bringing the best sporting events to the country, and how all areas of the capital are fully prepared to host such a prestigious sporting occasion. 

“For years now, we have been dedicated to growing the love of 3x3 here in Abu Dhabi,” continued His Excellency. “And this vision continues through the 3x3 Community Basketball Championship. I would like to wish all teams – both the professionals and those from the UAE community – a memorable time in Al Ain, and best of luck with each game you play.”

Talking ahead of the Finals, Head of Events and Partnerships of FIBA, Ignacio Soriano said: “I speak on behalf of myself and all the Federation’s employees about how excited we are to be bringing this sporting spectacle outside the city of Abu Dhabi for the first time. Not only is this a clear indication that Al Ain is ready for such a global event but it also highlights the thirst every corner of this country has for exceptional sporting excellence.

“As our relationship continues to prosper with ADSC, we are also pleased to see this development embodied in the game of 3x3 thriving across the capital with readily available facilities, coaching and of course the Community Championship,” added Soriano.

Away from the court, the surrounding Fan Zone will welcome basketball fans and families alike, with plenty to experience off the court, including: food trucks and stalls, live music, player’s warm-up area, merchandise, and more. Moreover, the event will once again feature the popular Slam Dunk contest and Shoot-out competition.

The final of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour’s 11th edition will take place in Abu Dhabi on December 9-10, 2022.

Abu Dhabi has been a pioneer in 3x3. Not only did the city organize a FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters last year - which featured ten Olympic medalists, it played host to the Final both in 2015 and 2016.

“It is an honor for us to host the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final for the third time,” His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council said. “The event is beloved within our community and fits with our strategy to bring the best and most innovative sporting events in the world. We were delighted to see 3x3’s success at the Tokyo Olympics and are committed to continue growing the game together.”

“We’re delighted to bring the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final to Abu Dhabi for the third time,” FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said. “Coming back for the Final six years later shows the spiking interest for 3x3 and the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.”

The 2015 and 2016 Finals rank among the most memorable and successful events in 3x3 history, both in terms of excitement on the court and quality of the organization. The event was praised for being one of the best sporting event in Abu Dhabi in 2015.

“Our previous Abu Dhabi Finals were a decisive moment in the growth of 3x3,” FIBA 3x3 Head of Events Ignacio Soriano said. “We’re blessed to have found a partner in the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, which shares our vision of 3x3 events being more than a sporting event. We are looking forward to continuing this legacy by organizing an unprecedented show this year in Abu Dhabi.”

The 2022 Final will be staged on Yas Island, a very popular leisure island, which is home to many entertainment facilities and sporting events, such as the Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

FIBA will unveil the FIBA 3x3 World Tour season calendar later this month.
