  • Introduction

The Hadoti region consists of the districts of  Bundi ,  Baran ,  Jhalawar  and  Kota , and borders the Mewar region of Rajasthan to the west and on the south by the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh state to the south. The name of the region derives from the  Hada  Rajputs, a branch of the Chauhan Rajput clan. As early as the 12th century, these Hada Rajputs  migrated into this region. Hada Rao Deva, a member of this Hada  Rajputs  group, occupied Bundi in the year 1241, and then Kota in the year 1264. In the Hadoti region, there is Kota, which had gained its status as an independent state in the year 1579.  Jhalawar became a separate state in the year 1838. Hadoti is a treasure house of art and sculpture. Some of the archeological wonders are found in the temples that are situated in every nook and corner of it.

Bundi is an important city, bearing witness to some of the striking artistry. It is located in a narrow encompassing gorge. The Bundi palace of this Hadoti region portrays an instance of Hada Rajput architecture with its engraved brackets, towers, and balconies. The Chitra Shala, with its superb paintings of this famous Bundi School, decorates the palace walls.

At the time of its festivals and fairs, the whole of the Hadoti region gets embellished with color and exuberance. Due to its integrity to the Rajasthani culture, most of the people of the Hadoti region practice Hinduism. They also fete almost all the traditional Rajasthani festivals like Deepawali, Holi, Gangaur, Teej, Gogaji, Makar Sankranti and Janmashtami. Pushkar, too, one of the significant festivals of Rajasthan, has been feted in the Hadoti with great festivity.

Also, there is a small subdivision of Keshorai Patan, which is situated some forty kilometers from Bundi city and about twenty-one kilometers from Kota. It specially gets enchanted with the mood of festivity and Pushkar celebration. Early in the morning, on the banks of the river Chambal, both males and females dress up in costumes. In the crystal-clear waters of the river `Charmanyavati` or Chambal of Keshori Patan of the Hadoti, they float illumined diyas into the river water and seek blessings with prayers. Numerous villagers travel by ferry to reach the area. The local market of this place of Hadoti, is thronged with people who also take a consecrated dip in the "Charmanyawati".

In order to falicitate the development and industrial growth of Rajasthan state, a special Hadoti industrial fair is observed in Kota. Several entrepreneurs have been invited here to take initiatives in this regard. The State Government, has given its wholehearted support to these endeavors.

Being a part of Rajasthan state, the region of Hadoti is agrarian and the majority of its people work in agriculture. Wheat, barley, pulses, and sugarcane are the main staple crops. The region is enriched with the resources of oil seeds and minerals. Various dance forms and musical melodies are quite popular amongst the people of Hadoti, which recreate them and thus elevate their spirits.

Plan to develop Hadoti as ‘thriving ecotourism site’

Home to a vibrant flora and fauna and with Chambal river flowing through it, the region comprising parts of Jhalawar, Kota, Baran and Bundi districts, has a huge tourism potential.

The largely unexplored Hadoti region of Rajasthan has the potential to turn several of its areas into thriving eco-tourism sites, environmentalists say.

While the forests in the region have thriving population of sloth bear, leopards, striped hyena, chinkara, nilgai (blue bull) and blackbuck, both crocodiles and ghariyals apart from a variety of snakes can be found in Chambal river.

Jhalawar district receives annual rainfall of more than 100 cm, has several seasonal rivers crisscrossing its terrain, and has ample scope for development as an excellent ecotourism site, district collector, Jitendra Kumar Soni said.

“For instance, there is Balinda ghat, a largely undiscovered spot where a river passes between two hills. The spot is surrounded by lush greenery. It is incredibly beautiful and if we make it accessible, it will be huge hit (with the tourists),” said Soni, who is also the district environment committee president.

Soni was speaking during a two-day conference organised by the Jhalawar district administration and the state forest department to deliberate upon ways to conserve biodiversity of the Hadoti region. The conference concluded on June 5.

Soni said that 225 species of birds were spotted in the past four months in Jhalawar alone. “The region around Gagron Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is ideal for bird sighting,” he said, adding trekking tracks could be also be developed in some parts of the region.

The district administration has already developed the Baghel trekking track at a cost of ₹ 40 lakh, Soni said and added that two or three more such tracks would be developed in the district soon. The administration also got Khandiya Talaab and Gomti Sagar registered as wetlands.

Soni said the suggestions discussed in the conference will be sent to the chief minister’s office for implementing them on the ground level.

Unlocking the Employment Opportunities in Tourism Industry at Hadoti Region With the Help of Tourism Education: Challenges and Future Perspectives

Unlocking the Employment Opportunities in Tourism Industry at Hadoti Region With the Help of Tourism Education: Challenges and Future Perspectives

Introduction.

Tourism industry is the most demanding and growing industry from past few decades. According to Goeldner and Richie (2003), tourism is the world’s biggest industry. Sola (2002) defined that tourism activities are differing to person to person, with its excellence depending on the education and inspiration of its workers (Sola, 2002). Tourism is filled by a huge number of small and medium sized businesses in multidisciplinary field. (Thomas, 2000; Ayres, 2006).Although tourism industry is not paying the returns to everyone in the same way but there is no doubt it is beneficially for all in one or another way. The most prominent benefit of this industry is creation of employment and business opportunities. In present era the main source of income and employment is Travel outflow for many countries (Edgell, 2006).With these types of changes the demand of tourism education and courses is raised. On the other hand an extensive inclination has been to pay notice not just to the content of tourism degrees, but to the virtues of graduates in requisites of skills and aptitudes, which are referred to as nonspecific skills and graduate characteristics (Pearce, 2005).

From personal outlook for provisions of employment and from organisational outlook in terms of the labour contribution tourism education is very much connected to the tourism industry (Ladkin, 2005). According to Riley et al., (2002) it is difficult to examine tourism employment because of the miscellaneous and split character of tourism industry. Second, Ladkin (2005) defined investigation of tourism employment markets, however, is challenging, due to the variety of the tourism industry. Regardless of the multiplicity of tourism employment, a number of kinds of employments in the industry can be recognized, including seasonal, part-time, female, emigrant/migrant, and active in the casual economy (Andriotis & Vaughan, 2004). An attempt has been made by (Leiper, 2004; Richardson & Fluker, 2004; Riley et al., 2002) to give a broad list of tourism division which includes- travel agencies, transport and tour operators, conferences and events, environment supervision, medical and spa tourism, government offices NGOs and educational institutions. Different kinds of matters unfolding to interest in tourism and hospitality employment, counting employment motivation, achievement insight and employment attainment strategies has been investigated by Ross (1992, 1993, 1997).

Speedy growth of the tourism industry creates numbers of employment and business opportunities. This industry is not only plays a vital role in economical growth but also in social –cultural development, protection of heritage and promotion of destinations. The main objective of this chapter is to scrutinize the relation between tourism education and employment. According to Riley et al.,(2002)tourism education needs to meet out the three crucial factors – to focus upon the personal development, to enhance the knowledge level, and to meet up relevancy to industry.

This paper aims at a qualitative-based empirical investigation of how TV series influences the economic structure and stimulate the publicity of places where it was filmed and which are about to be considered as a visitor attraction in domestic tourism. In order to reach this objective, we have chosen Bozuyuk, a small town of Mugla and located in the south-west part of Turkey. Within the scope of the field study, three excursions were arranged to the town of Bozuyuk where the series was shot, and an on-site observation was made by witnessing both interviews and shooting of the series. Despite the fact that the importance of shooting a series in the region was not understood by the local people in the beginning, all the participants, whom we made interviews with, empasized the contribution of the series in terms of the local economy and publicity. There are some tradesmen approaching the issue particularly in terms of cost-benefit analysis in the light of environment and sustainabili...

ABSTRACTThe scarcity in natural resources encourage many countries move their focus to manage non-natural resources. Tourism sector is one of potential non-natural resource in Indonesia that needs to be maximized by appropriate media. The fact that number of tourists coming to Bangka Belitung increase until about 1.800% by “Laskar Pelangi” the movie is a good sign that movie can be a tourism branding media to increase desire of audiences to visit the place which is shown. This research examines how “Laskar Pelangi” as a movie-induced tourism can influence audience decision to visit Belitung Island using combination of quantitative and qualitative research. The result shows that Laskar Pelangi is a effective movie-induced tourism since it has both pull and push factors. Film induced tourism or film tourism is a result of destination image formation and development through film industry with collaboration of other destination image stakeholders (policy makers, private and public investors, scholars and etc.). This postmodern tourism phenomenon links film driven emotions to the filming locations and at the same time is responsible for positive or negative destination image formation. In Lithuanian academic discourses this theory, as well as the impact of films towards local tourism, was not yet recognized. Therefore this article, according to the collected film tourism theoretical material, analyses Lithuanian potential for film induced tourism and how can it be turned into a destination promotion strategy. The conclusions show that there are real opportunities for Lithuania to use film industry as a tool of destination image formation, however it needs further analysis, a clear strategic plan, strong collaboration with Baltic region and the use of two recommendation models, which were presented in this paper. This research can be used for dynamic analysis as well as strategic planning in any specific institution related to filmmaking, tourism and regional image formation.

It is widely believed that nothing unites India more than Cricket and Bollywood. Indian spending on foreign travel has increased to four fold as compared to that in the year 2000. While entire Europe and USA are still struggling to come out of recession, as per an estimate, Indian travellers are expected to grow to 50 million from 9 million. These statistics have enticed tourism boards across the world to find multiple avenues to have maximum share of this ever growing pie. Indian middle class is riding high on its growing affluence, and is exploring new locales and destinations to satisfy its craving for the distinct holiday experience. Indian outbound market is sending strong growth signals to the Tourism Boards and National Tourism Boards (NTBs) globally, who have been experimenting for novel ways to tap this market within their restricted resources. Recent studies by global researchers have established the positive influence of films, on p...

Badoli Temples

45 km southwest of Kota : - about an hours drive from Kota. The road to these beautiful ninth to twelfth century temples runs parallel to the river Chambal and enters the the Darah Wild Life Sanctuary through a lovely thickly wooded ghat (hill) section. Badoli Temples are in a grove and have some of the best temple architecture that can be seen in Rajasthan. Total of 73 Temples were said to have been built here between 9th and12th C. in Nagar Style by the Rulers of Bhensrodgadh. These temples resemble the Khajuraho and Nagda Temples. Originally there were 42 Shiva, 22 Vishnu and 9 Surya, with Ganesh & other temples here.

The main surviving temple here is the Ghateshwara Mahadeo temple. In front of it is the mandap (hall). The entire Ghateshwar Mahadeo temple is beautifuly adorned with amorous figures of apsaras (nymphs), and the deities Ganga and Yamuna carved with delicate grace. This 58 ft. high Ghateshwar Mahadev Temple is the best of the surviving temples. This Temple has a very nice ‘Kalash’ at the top and a finely carved flag bearer Carvings on all surviving temples are very beautiful. Next to it on one side is the temple of Ganesh and on the other is that of Kali. There is also a Trimurti temple here. Unfortunately many of the figers were disfigured by Muslim armies in medieval times.

There is a smaller group of damaged temples set around a small rectangular pool. The famous statue of Shesh Shayyi Vishnua, the reclining Vishnu, now on view at the Government Museum, Kota, was originally from here. The courtyard is littered with beautiful carved stone pieces from the remains of the destroyed buildings here, including a torana (gate). Some of the good pieces lie in a store near these temples and can be viewed with permission of the Archaeological Survey of India.
