Published on August 24th, 2020 by Ray & Tammy Roman This post was updated on July 21st, 2023

Ever wish you could go back in time and relive a camping trip? Do you want to remember notable parts of your trips and can’t rely on memory alone?

Consider investing in a travel journal or RV logbook! Then you can simply relax in a nice RV camping chair and write about your awesome adventures.

The best RV logbook is the Ultimate RV Logbook . We choose it because not only does it have plenty of space for journaling your RV adventures, but it also has pages for logging your RV maintenance.

With this, you’ll be able to record each journey with the details of the location of the campsite, activities, discoveries, and even notes of what you wish you would have brought or known to prepare for the next trip.

Record the pros and cons of each, including whether it was a full or partial hookup or the amenities included at the site.

Also, you’ll want to leave a description of your overall experience, especially for looking back to remember which was the most fun or fitting to what you want to expect on the next trip.

Whether for the enjoyment of journaling or for the necessity of logging for maintenance or accessibility reasons, logbooks are a great idea for those who travel through camping.

If you are looking for the best RV logbook, the ones below are my recommended picks.

The Ultimate RV Logbook

The Ultimate RV Logbook: The best RVer travel logbook for logging RV

  • Gear & Apparel, Nomadic Souls (Author)
  • English (Publication Language)

Last update on 2024-04-11 / Paid Affiliate Link / Images from Amazon Product Advertising API

Having the ultimate in the name describes the amount of research that went into this journal. The detailed guides inside have more than the usual prompts seen in these types of logs.

Similar to the competition, this paperback book will include areas to log your stay and other campsite information. What makes it unique is also having a section to record all of the maintenance services, including mileage and dates for when you need to refer back to, and it also allows you to sort the book by region or state.

As you travel, this 7.4” x 9.7” journal will be easy to pack and carry along. You’ll find 120 pages in this version, which may be filled up faster since most logbooks usually have a bit more.

Since this logbook is so detailed, the fill-in pages will be lengthy, making the text quite small.

Adventure is Calling RV Logbook

Camping Journal & RV Travel Logbook, Red Vintage Camper Adventure:

  • Willow, Enchanted (Author)

This paperback journal includes 160 pages for logging and features detailed forms throughout to record campground information and routes taken.

In addition, the forms have prompts for noting the weather and even the starting and ending mileage of the trip. You’ll notice this book is a great size, being 7” x 10” and easy to keep track of and throw in your bag.

Many buyers not only purchase this for themselves but mention what a great gift idea it is as well. The design is simple and suitable for anyone and everyone.

A painting of a vintage-styled camper in the mountains will be found on the cover with the quote, “Adventure is Calling.” This seller also has other cover designs if you want to browse other options with the same interior aspects.

Being a best seller compared to its competitors, most reviews show no issues with their purchase, other than the occasional concern of it being paperback and having a page flapping upward instead of remaining in the original condition.

The Camping Logbook

The Camping Logbook (Camping Journal): Record Your Adventures

  • Hardcover Book
  • Inc. Peter Pauper Press (Author)

The Camping Log Book is perfect for recording your adventures; it even says it on the cover! This cover has great appeal, with a flannel-type design, which incorporates the camping vibe.

Something that makes this journal different is a back cover pocket to store business cards, maps, receipts, or other miscellaneous items. Also featured is an elastic band attached to the back cover to hold the journal in place, which is handy since there will be loose items in the pocket.

Within this 6 ¼” x 8 ¼” hardcover journal, you’ll have 160 pages with fill-ins to jot down amenities, attractions, and other notable campsite information.

This logbook, in particular, has several sections for different trips, so if you need more than just a few pages to record your adventure, this may not be a suitable purchase. However, a few pages can be used well if you don’t plan on using many for picture

Family Camping Journal

Family Camping Journal: Perfect RV Journal/Camping Diary or Gift for

  • Notebooks, Cute (Author)

The Family Camping Journal will differ from the usual “logging” type. This journal will be more like actual journaling, with its prompts being exactly that: prompts. For example, one prompt may start with something like, “Today we did…” or “Next time, I’ll be sure to…”.

The 8.5” x 11” softcover book is a bit on the larger side but has just as much writing room as others within the 126 pages. It will still include a few lines to record campsite information but is more focussed on recording the memories.

The design on the cover features words commonly used while traveling in an RV, such as campfire, nature, and the phrase, “gone fishing.”

Although many customers reviewed it with positive feedback, some did wish the prewritten prompts either weren’t included or just had less to include more of their ideas.

RV Logbook Camping Journal

RV Log Book Camping Journal: Road Trip Planner, Caravan Travel Journal

  • Co, Happy Eden (Author)

The RV Logbook Camping Journal is going to be great for having a checklist to remember important information for when you travel.

This style will suit anyone since it showcases a simple flannel vibe or buffalo check cover. It is similar to a composition notebook with its 6” x 9” premium matte soft cover. One hundred and one pages are included, with several checklist pages for each trip taken and the extra pages in between for notes.

The checklist will incorporate the campsite information section similar to the competitions. However, the checklist will list many things you may not initially think of to record.

Some examples are hiking trails, being pet friendly, and the type of pavement. Although this may be the perfect camping journal, keep in mind that it doesn’t have nearly as many pages as others, so it may be more suitable for those who don’t dedicate as much time to travel.

RV Logbook Template

If you would rather not buy a journal and just want to print out individual maintenance pages when needed, you can download a template here . It is a simple template, but it does the job just fine to help keep track of your RV maintenance .

Summary of Best RV Logbook

JUMP AHEAD TO...

Travel Log Books

I’m not a scrapbooker. Or a diary-writer.

I try SO HARD and I dutifully buy a new diary every single year… and then forget to write in it until August. Heck, I’ve even tried one of those ‘one line a day’ diaries… still nada.

But a road trip travel logbook is something else…

Why Write a Road Trip Log Book?

Before motorhomes, we lived on boats for 15 years. Writing a log book every time we went sailing was essential.

It was part legal document, part way of making sure we’d checked the tides. Writing the journal was just one of the tasks we had to do, both before we set off and during the trip. It became habit.

And those logbooks are GOLD.

Even now, years later, we love reading through them, remembering the funny/ foolish/ embarrassing things we did. It’s the best keepsake we could ever have , (especially the mini arguments we had, where one of us wrote a silly comment in the log, so the other replied… and we filled up 3 pages with utter nonsense!)

That’s EXACTLY why a motorhome/ caravan logbook is so essential- it’s a living record of your adventures, created AS they happen… not 5 years later when you’re trying to remember.

If you travel ANYWHERE by road (for adventures, not just the morning commute), then we highly recommend you treat yourself to a travel log book or road trip journal and start recording the trips.

It doesn’t matter whether you travel by motorhome, campervan, RV, caravan or anything else- you’ll really appreciate these travel journals (or diaries, if you prefer) in years to come.

Don’t forget, even if you’re not planning a motorhome, RV or road trip yourself, these make the BEST presents.

The BEST Road Trip Journal & Travel Logbook

FREE Printable RV Camping Log Pages For Your 3 Ring Binder!

If you’re a paper person like me (who has terrible memory too!) then print yourself off some of these FREE RV Camping Log pages !

Blank lined journals are OK to use in a pinch… but I personally love having a special spot and specific place to write all my camping memories! We like to bring ours with us so that we can write it down at the end of the night.

Today I have two sets of RV camping log pages – one black and white (color ink is expensive ya’ll!) and a pretty pastel themed set of log pages. If you don’t have color ink, or just prefer to use a nice printer, Staples has pretty reasonable printing costs. They can even bind it for you if you like!

FREE CAMPING PRINTABLE JOURNAL ENTREIS

1st Set – Black and white printable camping log pages

This first set is the black and white one I was talking about earlier – don’t worry though, it still has all the fun prompts to fill out to help you remember the details later!

The prompts for this camp journal set include:

  • Campground Name
  • Dates Stayed
  • Average temps during the stay
  • Location, phone and website information for the campground
  • Needs/does not need reservations
  • Type of campground
  • Rates and discounts
  • Things to do at camp
  • What to remember for next time
  • Favorite memory or picture from this trip

FREE PRINTABLE CAMPING JOURNAL PAGE

Some more fun printer friendly camping journal pages!

Now, these ones I do sell, but it’s VERY cheap! And I do give these away fairly often to my subscribers!

The additional pages include:

  • National Parks Check off list
  • States check off list
  • Places I’ve camped list
  • Friends I’ve met list
  • Bucketlist camp trip photo pages
  • “My story so far” (to personalize your journal!)
  • Fun cover to put in the front of your 3 ring binder!

camping journal printable template

2nd set of free printable camp journal template pages (the pretty colorful ones!)

Now, if you’ve seen the p hysical camp journal that I sell on Amazon , you’ll know I absolutely love pastels and color!

I know that not every camper wants to document EVERY SINGLE thing they do while camping and might only want the campground entry pages, so I wanted to make something similar to what I sell in my physical copy (for free!)

Most things are the same as the black and white journal, however I did adjust the layout a bit to accommodate for additional color and fun!

color camping journal printable free

Some more “pretty in pastel” color camping journal template printables!

Just like with the black and white camp journal set, I do have additional pages for purchase in my Shopify store!

I have included the same pages as well as a meal planning one (it’s crazy how much money you can save camping if you plan out your meals!)

CAMPING JOURNAL PRINTABLE SET TEMPLATES

Are you excited to make some awesome camping memories now? Let me know your email so you can get them now!

I hope these journals motivate you to write down the memories you make while camping! They are pretty, easy to use, and best of all you can print as much (or as little!) of each section that you need!

And just incase you don’t want to print it, and prefer to buy it already made and boun d on Amazon…

If you find yourself wanting a physical camping journal, I published one that was actually the #1 new release in camping on Amazon! It has a similar style as the color printable one I made, so if you like that, you might want to check it out!

I have been all over the page and submitted my email, but I still can’t find where to download the camping forms. There are SOOOOO many ads on here for PDFs that I have opened several adds unintentionally Could you please tell me how to get to the forms???? Thank you

Hi Bonny! I’m sorry for the confusion – I don’t choose the content of the ads, so I’m sorry for that confusion (I can see how similar looking download buttons can be frustrating for sure!)

I will email them to you myself so that it’s easier for you!

All the best Stacy

I am having the same problem. I have submitted my email but I did not get the free camper papers. Could I get it emailed as well?

Hi Melissa! Due to the volume of free printables I have created, I’m unable to send each individual printable (though I wish I could because that would be easier for you guys!). Instead, once you submit your email, you receive the password to my resource library here where you can download anything you like (including the 9 checklists!) Please let me know if you have any questions! – Stacy

Thanks to our newest update, your RV LIFE Trip Wizard account now has the ability to log in to more RV LIFE websites. This won’t affect your account for this site in any way. Currently, our enhanced login system works only with Campground Reviews and RV LIFE Trip Wizard, but we will be integrating more websites soon!

rv trip log

Q: Are you changing my account? A: This update won’t change your account on the website, but it will allow you to use the same login information when joining or signing in to our other websites. It will also streamline our upcoming RV LIFE app for iOS and Android, making it easier to use.

Q: Who owns RV LIFE? A: RV LIFE was purchased by the owners of RV LIFE Trip Wizard (Social Knowledge, LLC) in 2013. It was at that time a print magazine with a digital edition. Since then, it has become a fully digital collection of articles and continues to produce the best content for RV enthusiasts.

Q: Why is the RV LIFE Network login needed? A: We’re adding this feature as a way to make it easier for you to use our websites and apps. It may feel a bit confusing now, but as you begin to update your passwords and add more RV LIFE websites, it will become much simpler. It will also enhance your experience with the RV LIFE app, allowing you to easily jump into the different sections without worrying about having to remember several emails and passwords.

Q: Do I need to create multiple accounts on other RV LIFE Network websites I’ve not signed up for? A: No. You can login with your existing RV LIFE email and password. On most RV LIFE websites, you’ll have a few details to add when first signing in, but it will usually take less than 30 seconds of your time.

Q: Is my information safe? A: Yes. We use the most up-to-date methods to make sure your account and personal information are secure and not shared. This change makes it easier to login to each of our sites without the expense of your personal security.

Q: Are you sharing my email? A: No, we are not sharing your email address with any third parties.

Q: I have an account on two (or more) of the RV LIFE Network sites, but do not have matching emails. How can I update my account? A: You can update your email address on the sites to match by adjusting the settings on each of the websites. If you run into any issues or cannot update your email, contact our support team and we’ll get you fixed up and on your way.

Q: Why do I still need to login to each website from time-to-time? A: For security reasons, you’ll still need to use your new email and password to login to sites at certain points in time. It will be easier with only one set of credentials to remember.

Q: What is the RV LIFE App? A: The RV LIFE app is a one-stop, all-inclusive, mobile-friendly tool for RVers. News, tips, travel planning info, and RV website access are all available in one handy app for iOS and Android devices.

Q: Are there any costs associated with logging in via RV LIFE Network? A: The RV LIFE Network Login system is free to use. Some websites may charge for features. RV LIFE Trip Wizard is a premium service and has a subscription fee.

How To Pack for Your First RV Trip

rv trip log

One of the best parts of traveling in an RV is the ability to cook great meals. Avoid going out to eat for every meal by having a well-equipped RV kitchen. You can bring kitchen items from home, but you’ll be packing and unpacking those items every time you go on a trip. Instead, consider outfitting your RV kitchen with space-saving items like collapsible, stackable, and nesting kitchen tools. We recommend some of the following:

  • Cooking utensils
  • Stackable mixing bowls and food storage containers
  • Pots and pans

Camping Needs

If you’ve been camping before, you have a good base idea of what to bring along for this. Remember, you’re going out to relax. You may still need to work but think of the various ways you’ll also get to play.

Below is a list of popular camping supplies you might want to bring for additional comfort.

  • Flashlights, lanterns, and headlamps
  • Refillable water bottles
  • Clothes (be sensible)
  • Insect repellent
  • Camping chairs
  • Outdoor toys and games
  • Indoor board games (or a deck of cards)
  • Patio mats and outdoor rugs
  • Smartphone or tablet
  • First aid kit
  • Any other recreational equipment you need to enjoy your time!

The truth is, your camping list can be as long or short as you desire. It also depends on your RV’s available storage space. On longer trips, keep your RV light on gear to maximize your RV’s fuel economy. Remember, most destinations offer opportunities to rent gear from nearby outfitters.

Discover Camping World’s full selection of outdoor camping supplies.

What NOT to Bring on Your First RV Trip

Before any trip, it’s important to remember a couple of things. First, unless you’re becoming a full-time RVer , you don’t need to pack up your entire life. A few nice decorations for the RV go a long way.

Otherwise, be practical and remember that camping is often about doing more with less. Storage space is important on any RV (like the Happier Camper , for example), but so is weight. These are a few things we recommend leaving at home.

  • Heavy tools (other than must-have tools for operating or working on your RV )
  • Kitchen appliances you won’t use more than once (as mentioned above)
  • Firewood (most campsites sell wood on site, and many prohibit wood from being carried in due to the risk of invasive species)
  • Food in bulk (try meal planning to know exactly what you’ll need)
  • Your entire wardrobe (bring the essentials for the weather you’ll encounter)

With a few trips under your belt and a few more miles on the RV, you’ll soon grasp what you need for a fulfilling trip. For the must-haves, visit Camping World – we’ll outfit you with all the necessities.

Matches or a lighter. Pet supplies if you are taking the dogs.

I have a saying that applies to your home or your RV, “Everyone needs a butterfly net”, (or two). They are extremely useful for catching insects, birds, bats, or other small critters that get in where they do not belong. I have given many as gifts to new homeowners, friends, and family and love hearing the stories of how they have been used.

' src=

Great article

' src=

We bought a 2009 26’ Keystone travel trailer and looking forward to any hints to gain more storage space. I love all the suggestions on what to bring along. We will be camping for a week in NC in October and would love any suggestions on what to bring for clothing this time of year. Looking forward to our first trip by ourselves

' src=

Dont forget a old guitar for when you are sitting around a fire and feel like singing

' src=

I’m definitely a newbe. First time for me.me and grumpy are going this weekend so just got a 33 foot something. 3 slides And king size bed I’m ready I think lol

Could someone tell me how much fabric softner to put in the tank? 🙂 Thanks!

' src=

This is great info for newbies!! How much fabric softener????

' src=

Just bought a 25ft Trailer. This site is great. Thanks for my travel list.

' src=

Just purchased a toy hauler from camping World, any advice on shelving and hanging clothes?

' src=

Daily medicines and sun burn gel! Emergency contact info, flashlights, batteries, board games are a must for my husband and I – we rid ourselves of the electronics while camping (as much as possible) 🙂 Lawn chairs. I always take a table cover for the outside tables at campsites, sometimes they are a bit yucky. Clothesline rope and clothes pins if near a beach or swimming area. Liquid fabric softener in the black tank is a must in the summer months! Flyswatter. Happy Camping folks! Did anybody say fishing poles?

' src=

Thanks to everyone you posted on here. We bought our first class C in October and all the information you proved helps a lot. So excited for next spring….

' src=

Thanks all will be living in new rv while my house is rebuilt after Michael came through lots of good stuff

' src=

Jewel and I just bought a 2004 Damon Daybreak 3270. We are BRAND NEW to this so thank you all for this great info. We leave in CHINLE, AZ. on the Navajo Reservation. My wife is the supervisor for Labor and Delivery Unit at the Indian Hospital. As for me, I’m retired and just along for the ride and making sure I stay caught up with my “Honey Do List”.

hello camping world I too just bought my first class a rv and these tips is just what I needed I have yet to stock or purchase any items as of yet. I’m setting in the yard going over the unit its a lot to take in! Thanks.

' src=

Thank you all so much for the information. We do a lot of camping and just bought our first camper. So as far as camping goes the camper issue is all new such as dealing with the black and grey tanks. Will be checking back in. I

' src=

We just purchased our first Class A. All this info is very helpful. I proud that I did get about 90% of the list correct. I would have never thought of the fabric softeners in the black tank. GREAT ADVICE! I will be checking back in.

' src=

Great info! Benedryl or any meds you take are important, and will make or break a fun camping trip. Insect repellant and sunscreen, and a weather radio in case you get out of cell phone areas. My family has had some fun times just listening to AM Radio and the things they broadcast…are YOU a brother to the wild goose? Thanks again for the info, have fun out there!

' src=

I recommend first aid kit and benedryl also. I have a child allergic to bees, plus you never know when you’re gonna get bumps, scrapes and bruises.

' src=

It’s first time but full time have way more but will thin out

List is very good

' src=

Great info! We did it! Just bought a new Class C…from Camping World in Hamburg, NY. Leaving to travel after Christmas. Enjoying this info. Thank you all from two excited ‘newbies ‘. Heather and Phil

Thanks everyone ! Very helpful for beginners

Thanks for the tip on fabric softener in the loo. Works well and leave a nice smell

Because storage is limited you need to look for cookware that stacks and one handle fits all.

For a short trip I haul firewood. It’s unloaded right away and never re-loaded.

Toilet paper

' src=

i also recommend making sure you have the appropriate wrenches and sockets for all major hardware sections. This is for items such as the awning and slide outs in the event their motor goes out. First time i saw this open i made sure i knew how and had the proper equipment to get them back in.

What do you mean downy to clean tank

' src=

for the most part this is a very good list. there was only one thing that is a must have that I did not see on your list. BLACK TANK CHIMICALS. and then you bulked some stuff like “tools” don’t forget an axe, tire changing tools, jumper cables ….. and of course you must have the WHITE water hose, water filter, 4″ dia drain hose with couplings, chock blocks and a block kit for leveling, levels (to check your level), depending on where you are going you might want to fill your fresh water tank at least to half if not full. ensure your grey and black holding tanks are empty with about 5 gallons of fresh water in each along with some downy to help clean the tanks while driving. The more you go out the more tricks you will pick up on. happy travels

' src=

We use UNIQUE for gray and black water. It’s great for both.

' src=

If you can’t dump soon enough can you add the appropriate chemical with the downy? No reactions?

How much do you use for first time

No one answered how much Downy to add to the tank..

' src=

Great addition Noel!

' src=

1:1 Gain to Calgon hard water. It would depend on the size of your black and grey tanks. I’m excited to try it when we take out ours next week!

' src=

We always pack a case of bottled water. When boondocking you never know when you will fill the tanks again and how good the water will be. To drink!

To the beach or desert I have never heard of any issues, the problem is bringing your own wood into the forest. Due to it possible having bark beetles. Those guys could and have killed forests before and are very hard to control on e they have infected a tree.

' src=

Hello Gregg,

Can I ask how much Downy you add to your tank (tank size)?

Thank you! Mike

' src=

God Bless you Cy and Greg! We are renting a bumper trailer for the first time in June and we really needed to see these things to know and ask the lessor about them. Thanks so much.

Here is little trick. The reason you should always carry at least 5 gls of fresh water in your holding tank is for road side emergencies. It saved us before when I overheated on the way up a grade and there was no other source of water available. Use it for drinking and / or for the vehicle engine when stuck in a situation. I always carry 1 glasses af antifreeze but this time it just wasn’t enough.

' src=

Downey??????

' src=

I agree except: twice this summer I bought campground fire wood that was so wet that it wouldn’t light. If they want me to not bring my own firewood, sell wood that is usable.

' src=

We live in Clarence center and also looking for a class C

' src=

Well, it doesn’t really clean the tank, but it does help to keep “stuff” from sticking to the sensors and inside surfaces of the tank so it will all drain out when you dump. We use a combination of Calgon water softener and Gain laundry detergent mixed with water and flushed into the black tank

' src=

We use a 1:1 combination of Calgon and Gain. It works wonders! So much cheaper than the stinky chemicals.

Yes, fabric freshener / softener, non foaming. It helps clean the inside of the holding tanks and coats the inside so that it is harder for stuff to stick to the sides and sensors. Can be used in both gray and black tank. Little plus, it puts a nice pleasant smell in there also. When you get to the campsite dump your tanks and refill with the appropriate chemicals. And repeat the process every time you dump.

' src=

Liquid fabric softener helps keep the contents of the tank from sticking to the tank, making it easier to clean out.

  • and other famous sights.

You will learn about the different epochs of the city from the foundation in 1147 till Soviet times of 20 th  century.

Moscow River

Moskva river has the form of a snake and is the main waterway of Moscow, consisting of a cascade of reservoirs. Within the city, Moskva river is 80 km long, 120 m - 200 m wide and up to 14 m deep. The narrowest part of the river is the Kremlin area in the city center, and the most extensive is around the Luzhniki Stadium in the south.

Bridges in Moscow

Undoubtedly, bridges and embankments are among the most scenic spots and main attractions of Moscow. Plus, they are so romantic.

  • Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge –  Great Stone Bridge –  is the main bridge of Moscow . The first stone bridge was constructed here in the 17th century.
  • Patriarshy Bridge  is one of the youngest pedestrian bridges, built in 2004. The bridge connects the iconic Christ the Saviour Cathedral with funky Bersenevskaya embankment, extremely popular place among locals for its trendy art galleries, cafes and panoramic views. Patriarshy Bridge used to be a shooting location for ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's New Year speech to the nation.
  • Borodinsky Bridge,  erected in honor of the 100th anniversary of the glorious victory in the Battle of Borodino (which every Russian kid knows about), a fierce legendary battle during the Russo-French war of 1812.
  • Bagration Bridge  one of the  pedestrian bridges with most picturesque views of the Moskva River with its numerous upper-level observation platforms. The bridge was erected to celebrate the 850th anniversary of Moscow city in 1997.
  • Krymsky Bridge  used to be in Top 5 Europe’s longest bridges some 100 years ago. The bridge got its name after the ancient Krymsky ford which Crimean Tartars used to invade Moscow in the 16 th  century.

Embankments of Moscow

Moscow river boats 37 embankments, the most popular being Kremlevskaya, Sofiyskaya, Pushkinskaya, Vorobyovskaya and Kolomenskaya.

You can get the most spectacular views of the Kremlin from  Kremlevskaya and Sofiyskaya embankments.

  • Pushkinkaya embankment  is the most romantic in Moscow. It meanders along Gorky Park and Neskuchnyi garden and is rich for all kinds of entertainment as well as cozy nooks, including Olivkovy beach, the famous Zeleny theater as well as a pier for river cruisers.
  • Vorobyevskaya embankment  is part of Sparrow Hills nature reserve. This place opens a beautiful panorama of the river and city from the observation deck and is considered to be the place for taking serious decisions in life.
  • Embankment in Kolomenskoye  Museum-Reserve has a special charm due to its peculiar geographical relief. The boat trip around Kolomenskoye would be the most peaceful in your life.
  • Taras Shevchenko embankment  is popular among photographers for its modern Moscow City skyscrapers. Highly recommended for your night boat trip.
  • Embankments of Moscow are the pride of the capital. A distinctive feature of each of the promenades is its architecture and beautiful views. In addition, almost all the embankments of Moscow have a rich history and a lot of notable buildings.

Different epochs

Taking a walk along the Moskva River by boat, you will witness the architecture of Moscow from different eras and styles. Archaeological studies indicate that already in the XI century there stood a fortified settlement on Borovitsky hill, which is now called the Kremlin. Little fortress could not accommodate all the residents of the rapidly growing city, and the Grand Duke ordered the construction of a new Kremlin, larger than the former.

Boat trip around Kolomenskoe Park

Moscow river boat trip starts from the pier Klenovy (Maple) Boulevard and provides reat views of Nicholas Perervinsky monastery.

Nicholas Perervinsky monastery was founded at the time of the Battle of Kulikov (1380). The monastery, got its name from the surrounding area – “Pererva”, which can be translated like “tear off” and because of the location –  here it abruptly changed its course, turning to Kolomna, standing on the opposite bank.

Nowadays Kolomenskoye is State Art, Historical, Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve, which doors are open to everyone who wants to get in touch with the ancient history of Russia.

Take a break from the big city hustle in the shady parks and gardens of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. Don’t miss a wonderful Church of the Ascension and Tsar Alexey’s Palace in Kolomenskoye!

Monasteries and temples

  • Novospassky Monastery
  • Founded in the 13th century on the site where now is located the Danilovsky monastery. After a few decades, in 1330, Ivan Kalita moved the monastery onto the Borovitskii hill of the Kremlin. However, in the 15th century, Spassky Monastery again moved, this time to a more spacious place on Krasnoholmskaya waterfront.
  • Church of St. Nicholas in Zayaitskom
  • Erected in the middle of the XVIII century in baroque style. The building survived after the 1812 fire, but the utensils were destoyed. Parishioners collected donations and restored the temple on their own. In Soviet times, it was closed and re-opened only in 1992.
  • Cathedral of Christ the Savior
  • The church was originally erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon and was being under construction for long 44 years. Notoriously demolished in 1937 to be a giant swimming pool under open sky. The current building was constructed in 1990s. It is the tallest and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
  • The temple was built in 1679-82, during the reign of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich, in late Muscovite Baroque style and can be characterized as bonfire temple. Each gable is a symbol of a heavenly fire.
  • Novodevichy Convent
  • The most famous concent and monastery in Moscow, presumably founded in 1524. Novodevichy’s status has always been high among other monasteries, it was in this monastery where the women of the royal blood, the wives of Tsars and local rulers of Moscow were kept in prison as nuns.
  • St. Andrew’s church  (male acts as Compound Patriarch of Moscow)
  • St. Andrew’s church stands right on the slopes of the Sparrow Hills, on the way down to the Moskva River, on the territory of the Nature Reserve “Sparrow Hills”. The monastery is small in size but is very cozy. It’s situated in a quiet courtyard surrounded by temples, fruit trees and flowers.
