How to follow the European Beach Handball Tour 2023

Summer is here and that means it's time for beach handball. The European Beach Handball Tour (ebt) 2023 has been ongoing since April, with a packed schedule of beach handball action for Europe's best clubs.

This article will be regularly updated with details of how to follow every leg of the ebt.

The ebt began on Thursday 27 April with the Jarun Cup 2023 in Zagreb, and Croatia also host the final tournament, starting on 16 August.

Other ebt legs have taken place across Europe, with host nations including Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland.

What people love about Beach Tours in Western Europe

There were some issues with arranging the trip but once that was resolved everything was great. The hotels were all different -- but very nice with concierge services that were very helpful with bus schedules, restaurant suggestions, etc. The transportation to and from the airports and ferries was also great. The ferries were a bit of a challenge but the ferries themselves were very comfortable. We visited over Greek Easter so that was an added delight -- the candle lighting in Syros was amazing, Dot Travel at the Seabreeze Hotel in Crete was also great with helping us to arrange two guided tours and bus schedules for travel on our own, We are older, 79 and 81, so really enjoyed the freedom to plan what we wanted to do each day. It was a great adventure,

My experience with the Greek Island Hopping Tour was amazing! I liked having the freedom to do excursions (which were all amazing), or have the day to myself. Ellen was an amazing guide and ensured everything went smoothly. Would definitely do another Contiki in the future!

I am glad that I took this package. It helped us have a stress free trip. Transfer from day 1 was seamless. I want to mention Kristos, the driver that picked us up from the airport who gave us a lot of useful information that kicked our trip to a good start. He served as a tour guide from the airport to the hotel. The hotels we stayed in were located near the must see places, especially our hotel in Athens. The person at the reception in all the hotels we stayed in was very helpful. George of Dot Travel was very prompt in answering my queries before our trip. It was a good package to take. We were satisfied.

• Traveling by rail is one of the easiest (and sometimes cheapest) ways to get around Europe, especially if you plan to travel for a couple of weeks (or longer). Investigate rail passes before you visit, particularly ones that can be used between countries. Interrail and Eurail are very popular among travelers.
• Don’t skip the “touristy” destinations. Everyone travels differently, but the most popular European highlights are popular for a reason. Brave the crowds and be sure to stop by those more cliché sites - you’ll be glad you did.
• Try not to over prepare! One of the great benefits of visiting Europe is that it’s incredibly easy to travel between towns and countries. Allow yourself some flexibility to open yourself up to new adventures (and avoid travel burnout). If you've booked a Europe tour package with accommodation, activities, guides etc. get ready to indulge and relax - you are up for a Europe trip of a lifetime. 
• Chances are you don’t speak 23 different languages, so be prepared before you travel. Avoid carrying around heavy guide books by downloading a translation app on your phone.
• Note that not all European countries use the Euro, including the United Kingdom , Denmark and Hungary (among others). Do your research beforehand and be ready to juggle different currencies if you’re planning an extensive trip.
• Travelling on a budget? Check our last minute holiday and travel deals to Europe . Also, consider looking for accommodation outside the city centre. Most large European cities are very well connected by public transportation, meaning all your bucket list sites are just a quick (and often inexpensive) bus, train, or metro ride away.

Paul will bring his acclaimed Got Back tour to Europe this December!

Fulfilling his promise to 'get back', Paul will return to France, Spain and the UK with his Got Back  tour. Earlier this month, Paul announced his first live shows of 2024 with the next leg of the tour launching in South America this October.  

With songs like ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Live and Let Die’, ‘Band on the Run’,  ‘Let It Be’ and so many more, the Paul McCartney live experience is everything any music lover could ever want from a rock show: hours of the greatest moments from the last 60 years of music – dozens of songs from Paul’s solo, Wings and of course Beatles catalogues that have formed the soundtracks of our lives.

This will mark Paul’s first European show since his iconic Glastonbury headlining performance in 2022. Hailed as “one of the greatest gigs of all time” by The Times and “a masterclass from the greatest living cultural figure in this country’s history” by The i, it was also Paul and his band’s 500th show together! These dates will see McCartney return for his first live performance in Paris in six years - in 2018 he played at La Defense Arena, where he is making his return. The wait has been longer for Spaniards, where he last played eight years ago, in 2016 at Estadio Vincente Calderon.

Paul launched his Got Back tour in 2022, completing 16 huge shows across the US before performing his history-making set at Glastonbury in June 2022. In 2023 Paul performed 18 incredible shows as the Got Back tour rocked through Australia, Mexico and Brazil.

The best beaches in Europe don’t disappoint. With thousands of miles of diverse coastline, Europe is home to some of the most spectacular beaches on the planet. Nearly every country offers some sort of coastline, meaning the likelihood of finding a stretch of sand that suits your preferences is certain.

Looking for crystal-clear water cradled by golden sand? Head for Italy ; several regions such as Sardinia , Puglia , and Sicily all boast these traits. In search of an undiscovered surf spot? Consider Denmark with its unlikely (and beautiful) beach scene known as ‘Cold Hawaii.’ Or perhaps limestone cliffs and striking rock formations are more your speed: Portugal is great for that.

Whether along the turquoise-hued waters of the Mediterranean or the crashing waves of the Atlantic, the best beaches in Europe are nothing short of dreamlike. Ahead, 11 standouts to add to your bucket list—plus, where to stay when you’re visiting.

Torre Sant’Andrea, Puglia, Italy

While the Amalfi Coast gets the lion’s share of fame when it comes to the Italian coastline, further south in Puglia lies some of the country’s most pristine stretches of sand and rock. If you prefer the latter, head for Torre Sant’Andrea to admire the beach’s dramatic rock formations and intensely turquoise waters before jumping in from a short cliff. While there’s not much sand here to lay out on, the flat rock surfaces serve as a scenic alternative for your towel and beach bag.

Where to Stay: Just 20 minutes southeast of Torre Sant’Andrea, the Montekore villa by The Thinking Traveller sits on twenty acres of organic farmland. It can accommodate eight guests and features sprawling gardens, a picture-perfect pool, and countless scenic nooks for leisurely reads and afternoon spritzes.

Praia Dona Ana, Algarve, Portugal

The region of Lagos is known for some of the Algarve’s best beaches , including Praia Dona Ana. Characterized by golden limestone cliffs and sands, this sheltered beach is perfect for snorkeling or a languid day under an umbrella, good book in hand. Break up your afternoon with a stroll to see the imposing rock formations, sea stacks, and caves, and consider renting a kayak to explore the coastline even further.

Where to Stay: What was once an abandoned estate by the sea is now Casa Mãe , a bright and cheery boutique property in Lagos with a farm-to-table restaurant sourcing from local artisan suppliers, including their own garden complete with 200 chickens for in-house egg production.

Reynisfjara, Iceland

This black sand beach is likely the most popular in the entire country—and for good reason. The setting is, in a word, striking. From the basalt columns that seem etched into the cliff sides to the towering sea stacks located offshore, it’s a dramatic setting. At low tide, you can explore the small caves and coves dotted along the shoreline while keeping an eye out for seabirds such as puffins and guillemots during the nesting season (around May to August).

Where to Stay: Let the travel gurus at Black Tomato curate your South Iceland itinerary for you, including a stay at Hotel Ranga located just an hour away from the beach. This luxurious country lodge straddles a river and each suite is decorated in a distinct style to reflect one of the seven different continents.

Kaputaş Beach, Antalya, Turkey

Located between the towns of Kaş and Kalkan and reached by descending a long staircase, this breathtaking beach has all of the Mediterranean’s best traits on full display. Its undeveloped aesthetic offers a natural and unspoiled experience, with the turquoise sea flanked by steep, rugged cliffs. Swimmers and snorkelers will also take delight in the rocky formations arranged around the beach’s clear waters, and sunbathers can relish the picturesque blend of golden sand and small white pebbles.

Where to Stay: With just six rooms clustered around an atmospheric garden, Courtyard Kalkan transports guests back in time with its traditional mix of Turkish and Greek architecture, restored in 2012 by local architects Kutay and Pınar Karabağ and with interiors by Bihter Türkfiliz.

Pointe de l’Aiguille, Cote d’Azur, France

The Cote d’Azur is home to numerous storied beaches, from Saint-Tropez and Cannes to Nice and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. If you’re in search of the quieter side of the French Riviera, this small pebble cove in the village of Théoule-Sur-Mer brings all the charm without the dense crowds. It is identifiable by its striking red rocks (the result of volcanic lava flow millions of years ago) and there’s even an underwater trail for snorkelers.

Where to Stay: Newly opened Château de Théoule is a 44-key hotel situated within a 17th-century soap factory turned private mansion. This  Millésime Collection property has its own private beach and boat slip and is located a few minutes from the stunning hikes of Massif d’Estérel .

Pasjača Beach, Dalmatia, Croatia

A short drive south of Dubrovnik lies this intimate beach in south Dalmatia. The beach itself is striking with its teal waters and staggering cliffs, but the narrow path and series of stairs carved into the rock make it all the more memorable. The nearby village of Popovići is also worth a visit for its traditional architecture and olive groves.

Where to Stay: Less than 20 minutes north in the lovely town of Cavtat sits Hotel Supetar Cavtat , a 16-room boutique hotel housed in an original 1920s private villa.

Platja de sa Boadella, Costa Brava, Spain

Otherworldly in its beauty, this beach on the Costa Brava is as picturesque as they come. Surrounded by cliffs and pine trees, the golden sands and turquoise waters feel secluded and wild. While it’s a smaller beach than others in the region, its tranquil ambiance more than makes up for the limited sand real estate. (Heads up: This has traditionally been a nudist beach, though stripping down certainly isn’t required.)

Where to Stay: Book a room at Hotel La Bionda , a boutique property in the historic center of Begur that served as an intellectual hub for women during the 1930s.

Thy National Park, Denmark

Attracting surfers for its surprisingly great swells and breaks, the Thy region of Denmark is an unlikely—but appealing—beach region. (Fun fact: It’s often referred to as ‘Cold Hawaii’ for obvious reasons.) Naturally, if you hope to catch some waves this is an all too worthy destination, but there’s plenty else to explore on these scenic beaches, from devouring freshly caught seafood on a picnic table overlooking the sea to trying your hand at kite and windsurfing.

Where to Stay: Local holiday home purveyor Land Folk rents out this charming thatched summer house secluded in the forest on a planted field. The interiors are distinctly Scandinavian, with Douglas fir walls and doors and a fireplace beneath the arched ceiling.

Tsigrado Beach, Milos, Greece

Adventurers who have already checked Sarakiniko off their list and are in search of a picturesque cove should add this beach to their agenda. Be sure to strap on your Tevas first—one must negotiate a steep (but exhilarating) descent with the aid of ropes and ladders to reach the fine white sands and blue-green waters of Tsigrado. The payoff is well worth it thanks to the rugged beauty that surrounds the small stretch of sand. Arrive early as it can get busy, and don’t miss the sea caves or snorkeling spots.

Where to Stay: Skinopi Lodge is a retreat tucked away on nine acres surrounded by olive trees and sea. Choose from seven villas with views of the Bay of Milos, which include outdoor showers and kitchens that blend inside with the great outdoors.

Luskentyre Beach, Isle of Harris, Scotland

Utterly spectacular and somewhat puzzling, this UK beach offers miles of white sand and turquoise waters, creating a tropical appearance despite its northern location. The area is rich in wildlife, from seabirds to seals, and outdoor activities are popular here due to its expansive nature (which also ensures privacy no matter the season).

Where to Stay: Scotland is replete with regal accommodations, such as Amhuinnsuidhe Castle , a Victorian-era coastal retreat that sits on 50,000 acres of wilderness and can host up to 18 people. Enjoy bay views and a private collection of paintings by artist William McTaggart.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay Beach, Malta

Recently named the most beautiful beach in Europe , this hidden gem along the coastline of Malta is admired for its red sand and scenic cliffs. The beach is located on the northern end of the island and in a sheltered bay, allowing for a relaxed experience for swimmers and snorkelers alike. Despite its beauty, it remains less crowded than nearby Golden Bay Beach due to a series of steps visitors must descend (and ascend) to enjoy the beach.

Where to Stay: Snag an Airbnb based on where you want to situate yourself for your time on the island. This charming townhouse close to the beach was built in the traditional Maltese method and is in the peaceful village of Mellieha.

Travis Scott arrested in Florida: Here's what we know, Scott's ties to South Florida

Rapper, singer, songwriter and hit-making producer Travis Scott was arrested this week in Miami Beach and charged with disorderly intoxication.

Scott is best known for his years-long on-again-off-again relationship with Kylie Jenner, who he’s had two children with , and for hosting one of the deadliest concerts in the U.S. during his 2021 “Astroworld” tour.

Here’s what we know about Travis Scott’s ties to south Florida and his arrest.

What made Travis Scott famous?

Travis Scott, 33, whose legal name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, rose to fame after Kanye West took Scott under his wing in a collaboration with his independent record label, G.O.O.D. Music, in 2012. Travis Scott had already signed a major-label deal with Epic Records earlier that year, so he collaborated with G.O.O.D. Music as a producer.

“After getting his start via Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music series, exploded onto the mainstream in 2016 with his Billboard 200-topping sophomore record ‘Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight,’ which he followed up two years later with ‘Astroworld,’” According to Billboard Music.

“The latter project spent three weeks at No. 1 and spawned one of his best-known songs to date, ‘Sicko Mode,’ which was all but inescapable in the second half of 2018. Thanks in part to collaborations with Drake, Young Thug, Kid Cudi, M.I.A., Kodak Black and Offset, Scott would go on to score a handful of No. 1 singles and even more top 10s.”

Where, why was Travis Scott arrested?

According to reports of Scott’s arrest and the Miami Beach Police arrest affidavit, police were called to the Miami Beach Marina early Thursday, June 20, to respond to a disturbance on a yacht. Someone called the station to report that people were fighting on the boat.

“When officers arrived, they found Scott ‘standing by the dock yelling at the vessel occupants.’ At first Scott complied with police commands to sit down, but then he disregarded them,” NBC’s report on the arrest affidavit says. 

“The complainant told police he did not want to press changes, and just wanted the rapper off of the vessel. Officers could sense ‘a strong smell of alcohol coming from the defendant's breath.’”

According to the report, Scott agreed to leave but did not do so quietly and started to approach the boat again, only about five minutes later.

“During the walk to the boardwalk, Scott ‘walked backwards yelling obscenities to the occupants of the vessel,’” according to NBC’s report on the arrest. After he left, he was seen walking back toward the boat again.

“Scott spoke to a sergeant he had spoken to earlier and began yelling once again — ‘becoming erratic’ and ‘disturbing the peace of the occupants of the marina and nearby residential buildings causing a public disturbance,’ the affidavit said.

He was eventually arrested around 1:15 in the morning on Thursday, June 20 and later flippantly admitted that he had been drinking alcohol, saying “It’s Miami.”

Scott submitted a $650 bond and is expected to be released.

Is Travis Scott going on tour in 2024?

This arrest lands just eight days before Scott is slated to tour Europe this summer, which starts in the Netherlands.

“Travis Scott is headed overseas this summer for a run of European stadium and arena dates as part of his UTOPIA – Circus Maximum Tour,” Billboard reported in May.

“The 12-show run is slated to kick off on June 28 with a show at the Gelredome in the Netherlands and include shows in Poland, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the U.K., Czech Republic and Italy.”

Why does Travis Scott go by Travis Scott?

Scott revealed how he chose his stage name during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” in 2018. It’s a mix of his uncle’s name and Kid Cudi’s real name, which is Scott Mescudi.

“My uncle was named Travis and Kid Cudi is like one of my favorite artists of all time,” Scott told Fallon. 

“His real name is Scott Mescudi. And my Uncle’s friends called him Scott, too, so it kinda worked out like that. It was like my two superheroes, you know.”

Is CACTI park owned by Travis Scott?

It’s not that surprising that Scott was in South Florida when he was arrested this week. He has strong ties to the Miami metropolitan area.

Scott actually owns the spring training home of the Houston Astros, CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches, in West Palm Beach , only a couple hours north of where he was arrested.

Travis, Jason and Kylie Kelce attend Taylor Swift's Eras Tour show in London

Swift fever has touched down on the British capital as Taylor Swift was set to perform her first sold-out night in London's Wembley Stadium ushering in new opening acts with Travis, Jason and Kylie Kelce cheering from the floor.

Travis Kelce was seen walking to the VIP floor tent during Paramore's "Misery Business" with Kelce's brother, sister-in-law and best friend Ross Travis. The Kelces were in Cannes, France the day before the concert for the Cannes Lions Festival. Fans snapped photos and videos of Jason exchanging friendship bracelets with Swifties. Also spotted on the floor, Swift's parents Scott and Andrea Swift , Bridgerton actress Nicola Coughlan , Queer Eye host Jonathan van Ness and actress Cara Delevingne.

Online, social media accounts have confused Ross Travis and Travis Kelce. Travis was wearing a green shirt and Cowboy hat.

Kelce has attended the tour a half dozen times since the couple went public last year. His first stop was Buenos Aires, Argentina , followed by Sydney, Australia,  two nights in Singapore and the final night in Paris. Swift has changed the “Karma” lyrics to "guy on the Chiefs" every time Kelce has cheered her on from the sidelines. She also attended 13 NFL games in the 2023-2024 season culminating in the Super Bowl.

The Kansas City football player was in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday for his three-day event Tight End University . Before heading to Europe he hosted a the program that brings tight ends together for film study, on-field drills, recovery and rehabilitation.

Introducing Mette to the Swift universe

Mette opened up for night one in Wembley taking the stage before Paramore, the opening act for all 51 Eras Tour shows in Europe. Mette describes her musical repertoire as "sensual and sweaty." Prior to the Eras Tour she played Cassandra alongside Swift in the 2019 movie "Cats."

"This is such a special night y'all," Mette said. "Thank you, Taylor."

London transforms into Swiftmania

The City of Dreams has prepared for the three nights of Swift. She's sang about the city in several of her songs including "London Boy," "So Long London" and "The Black Dog." She has a history with the city after dating ex Joe Alwyn for six-plus years, frequently visiting Camden Market, Highgate, the West End, Brixton, Shoreditch and Hackney.

Murals appeared around the city the week leading up to Swift's show. Hours before the show, the Tube, or London subway system, created a map decked out in the singer's 11 eras, recoloring the lines to correspond to different albums and renaming stops after songs like "All Too Well" and "I Knew You Were Trouble." Gemstones were added to reflect popular landmarks like the Hampstead Heath or Wembley Stadium.

Swift has two more performances at Wembley Stadium before heading to Dublin. On Saturday, Griff will open for the singer before Paramore and on Sunday, Benson Boone will be the first act to take the stage.

Website for European Beach Tour Finals launched

With a bit more than a month to until the European Beach Tour (ebt) Finals throw off in Umag, Croatia, on 1/2 June 2013, beach handball fans all across Europe can now find the latest related information on the tournament's official website.

The newly launched hub contains valuable information on the competition, the hosting city of Umag, and accommodation and will further evolve and grow as the event approaches.

Eight men's and eight women's teams are eligible to participate in the tournament, which is organised by the EHF in cooperation with the Croatian Handball Federation and the city of Umag.

Following the beach handball philosophy the ebt Finals are a competition that is simply structured, with easy rules, a lot of sun and high level matches based on the fair play spirit.

"The ever-growing popularity of beach handball and the dedication of the athletes and the organisers have kept the sport in the spotlight as the summer handball highlight," says EHF President, Jean Brihault.

The Taylor Swift Economy Has Landed in Europe

Economists are debating what effect the singer’s sweep through Europe will have this summer as swarms of fans increase demand for hotels and services.

It’s not just Taylor Swift fans keeping a close eye on her Eras Tour dates. One of Europe’s most prominent economists is acutely aware that the singer is spending the summer jetting between Europe’s stadiums.

Philip Lane, the chief economist at the European Central Bank, had the pop star on his mind when he spoke at an event on Monday. The interviewer had asked him about the risk that stubborn inflation in the services sector could intensify, especially with Europe heading into a particularly busy summer with the Olympics in Paris and the Euro 2024 soccer championship in Germany.

“Well, that’s very interesting,” he said at the event . “You managed to say all that without saying Taylor Swift.”

Ms. Swift is touring Europe this summer, bringing in her wake hundreds of thousands of Swifties spending on airfare, hotels, restaurants and friendship bracelets . On Friday, she will perform the first of eight shows at London’s Wembley Stadium; about 700,000 people are expected to see the shows in the British capital. And analysts are debating the economic footprint it will leave.

Economists in the United States know that Eras is an economic tour de force. As consumers splurged on concerts, meals, vacations and other recreational experiences they missed out on during pandemic lockdowns, one company estimated that the tour could generate $4.6 billion in North America alone from spending on tickets, merchandise and travel.

Central bankers are justified in scrutinizing the potential inflationary effects of the arrival of a global superstar: In May last year, when Beyoncé kicked off her Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm, an economist attributed a blip in the inflation data to the singer’s concert, as fans traveled from afar to witness the first show.

Europe’s central banks have started to cut interest rates — or are poised to — as inflation has slowed substantially over the past year, putting their 2 percent target rates within sight. But there are lingering concerns that inflationary pressures have not been stamped out because price gains for services, which include hotels and restaurants, are repeatedly higher than expected.

The demand that the Eras Tour creates for hotel rooms and flights across Europe could push up prices that feed into each country’s inflation rate. Central bankers are sensitive to even minute changes in the data as they try to distinguish one-off effects from lasting ones. If central bankers worry that inflation is not slowing as expected, they could hold off cutting rates.

“All those tiny quirks are going to matter a lot,” said Lucas Krishan, a strategist at TD Securities in London. They can “muddle the picture for central banks heading into these decisions.”

Last month, Portugal’s inflation rate accelerated, in part because of a jump in hotel prices in Lisbon “resulting from a major cultural event,” the country’s statistics office said. Ms. Swift performed in Lisbon on May 24 and 25.

The impact that events like Ms. Swift’s tour have on inflation can be mitigated by how well a country’s economists anticipate the effect of her concerts so investors and others are not surprised by the data. Policymakers at the European Central Bank have said that the path back to 2 percent inflation will be “bumpy” and that a relatively strong tourism season is already baked into their forecasts.

But Mr. Krishan said it was possible that Ms. Swift's concerts in August, when the tour swings back through London, could increase services inflation in Britain, especially because one of her tour dates may coincide with the day that the nation’s statistics agency records price data. If hotel prices follow the pattern set when she played in Liverpool this month, services inflation could rise as much as 0.3 percentage points. Higher-than-expected inflation data in August could encourage Bank of England officials to hold off on cutting rates in September, Mr. Krishan said.

Other analysts are skeptical of Ms. Swift’s ability to have a seismic impact that shows up in national statistics.

“Taylor Swift is unlikely to be affecting central bank policy. She’s unlikely to be affecting government policy,” said George Moran, an economist at Nomura. “And I don’t think it’s a sustainable option for growth in a country to rely on having superstar concerts.”

Barclays predicted that Ms. Swift's tour would lead to a bump of nearly 1 billion pounds ($1.3 billion) in the British economy , but those suggestions are hard to substantiate, Mr. Moran said, because no one knows how much people are diverting their spending from other activities. Even then, £1 billion would not be enough to revitalize Britain’s stagnant economy .

Still, Mr. Moran added that for individual cities and certain sectors, the tour could have a meaningful impact. When tickets went on sale last summer, Airbnb searches in host cities increased more than 300 percent on average, the company said. The Greater London authority estimated that Ms. Swift’s eight London shows would generate £300 million for the economy .

“The impact is going to be more local than macro,” Mr. Moran said. “Taylor Swift is obviously a massive phenomenon, and the areas that she’s visiting is causing a big buzz in the hospitality sector.”
