Also, remember to bring your ID and consider visiting during off-peak hours like weekday mornings to enjoy a more intimate experience and avoid the crowds."

What is Coors Brewery Tour?

The Coors Brewery Tour is a journey into the heart of one of America's most beloved beer brands, Coors Brewing Company, located in Golden, just a stone's throw away from Denver. It offers visitors an intimate look at the brewing process, from the selection of ingredients to the meticulous methods of producing their renowned beers. Participating in the tour, you're not just walking through an industrial facility; you're stepping into a slice of Colorado's rich brewing history.

Our Most Popular Tour:

Boston has such a rich history, and on our Boston walking tour, you can explore it on foot! Whatever the time of year, you’re sure to love this immersive ...

As you navigate through the brewery, you're treated to sights, sounds, and smells that are both educationally stimulating and immensely pleasurable for any beer enthusiast. The tour culminates with some refreshing samples for those of age, providing a taste that's as fresh as it gets. It's particularly known for the quality of its water, which is sourced from the nearby Rocky Mountains and is a critical component of the beers' distinctive flavors.

History of Coors Brewery Tour

The roots of Coors Brewery stretch back to 1873 when Adolph Coors and Jacob Schueler opened their operation in Golden, Colorado. The brewery survived prohibition by diversifying their products and even now, it stands as a testament to resilience and innovation. The tour itself has become an institution, offering a window into brewing operations for generations of visitors.

What's fascinating is the continued balance of traditional brewing techniques with modern technology at Coors. Over the years, the tour has evolved, reflecting changes in the brewing industry and in public interest. But throughout all that time, the focus on quality and craftsmanship has been unwavering, which, I reckon, visitors can witness firsthand on the tour.

Why is Coors Brewery Tour Important?

Coors Brewery Tour is an emblematic part of Colorado's cultural and industrial landscape. The state is known for its robust beer culture, and Coors is a major player in that realm. For many, the tour is a rite of passage, an educational journey that highlights the significance of the beer industry in Colorado.

The importance of the tour also echoes the evolution of beer in America. Coors has been there through it all, surviving tough times and flourishing in good ones. Plus, it's not just about beer; it's about community, history, and the American Dream. Think about it, what does it take for a brewery to endure and prosper through a century and a half? That's a story worth telling—and tasting—on the Coors Brewery Tour.

Things to Do & See at Coors Brewery Tour

When you embark on the Coors Brewery Tour, you're in for a host of experiences. First off, there's the brewing process itself, which is a marvel of science and tradition. Watch the mash tun work its magic, turning malt and water into wort. Then there's the fermentation area, where yeast diligently crafts that wort into beer.

Don't forget the packaging side of things where an intricate ballet of machines fills, caps, and labels the beers at an almost dizzying pace. Imagine standing there as hundreds of bottles whiz by, soon to be enjoyed across the nation. Next, there's the historic aspect; you'll see historic photos, vintage bottles, and old advertisements that paint a picture of Coors' storied past.

And of course, you'll have the opportunity to taste a variety of beers at the end of the tour. Whether you're a fan of the classic Coors Banquet or you're more into the latest craft offerings from the Colorado Native series, there's something to please every palate. Just picture it: clinking glasses with new friends against the backdrop of the breathtaking Rocky Mountains. Now that's an experience that goes beyond your average brewery tour.

Coors Brewery Tour – Tour Information and Tips for Visiting

Coors brewery tour bus

As a Minnesotan, and one from the land of sky blue waters, it’s sacrilegious for me to claim my love of the beer which is born in the Rocky Mountains — Coors Light. But, I unabashedly continue to order my silver bullets and after a visit to the Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado, I am even more of a patron today.

Coors Brewery Tours – Golden, Colorado

Tours are about $20 per person. Check the website for hours. You can make reservations online or over the phone. It’s really better than I had anticipated and I think you’ll have fun, too!

Booking Reservations for a Coors Brewery Tour

The first and most commendable thing I noticed when I booked my brewery tour (over the phone) was the tour booker told us we’d need to present ID and vaccination card upon check in. After traveling extensively in LA this summer and fall, I had been waiting for the time I’d have to pull out my vax card, but it never came. Here, we did get carded for both age and vaccination. The information upfront was extremely helpful for planning.

Brews from the Coors Brewery

If you have a larger group, book NOW. Do not wait! Luckily, there were only two of us, and we were super flexible, so we were able to find a two-person slot. Otherwise, it was booked out for a few weeks. That was in April. It will only get worse with tourist season underway.

New Tour, Different Flow

There are only about a dozen patrons on each Coors Brewery tour. A tour guide is with you at all times and tours last about an hour. You get three 8 oz. beers throughout the tour (if you are legal to drink, children are allowed on tour, but are given a different bracelet to designate them as underage.) The beers are perfectly paced with the information and duration of the tour.

Banquet Coors tour bus

Bonus: You get to keep the recycled Coors cups from your experience as fun souvenirs.

This is a different model than previous tours, so if you’ve done it before and didn’t’ love the experience, try it again. This was really a GREAT date for an afternoon of fun. Everything is streamlined and clean and the pace is perfect.

Coors Brewery Tours are Perfect for an Afternoon Date

We weren’t sure that we wanted to do a Coors brewery tour. After a weekend in Denver and the surrounding cities, trekking all over the front country and into the Rockies, we agreed this was one of the most carefree and simple fun memories we made. If you’re a beer enthusiast, this is a great time. Lots of bite-size history tidbits and sips of the cold, fresh beer made a great date! The beer is made with Colorado Rocky Mountain water. They keep it local, proudly. (Don’t worry: I asked–it’s NOT made from the stream on location.)

Coors brands

If you ARE coming from Denver, before you enjoy the tour, enjoy this amazing street taco joint we found which sets up the afternoon for success! Golden is a short drive from Denver (about 40 minutes from the Denver International Airport), but it’s worth the trip to experience the Coors brewery tour.

Golden, Colorado

The Wild West is still alive in Golden,   Colorado's territorial capital until 1867. Upon arriving in Golden, you are welcomed with an old-fashioned wooden arch over Washington Street reading: "Howdy Folks! Welcome to Golden!"

Today, it's home to six museums;  Coors Brewery , one of the largest brewing facilities in the world; and a downtown filled with shops and restaurants.

The famed  Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre  is just up the road. If you're looking for outdoor adventure, Golden is also home to miles of hiking trails for all levels, some stellar rock climbing and Clear Creek, which runs through the center of town and offers whitewater rafting and excellent fishing.

With its secluded, small-town feel and plenty to see and do, Golden is a great day trip option from Denver.

Explore Golden, Colorado

Spend the day exploring Golden's fantastic museums, such as the  Colorado Railroad Museum , which has the state's largest collection of locomotives, cars, photos and historic railroad mementos; the  Golden History Museum & Park , where you can learn about the legends who built the town, see old cabins and a one-room schoolhouse, and feed the heirloom chickens; the  Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum , where you can see a universe of quilts from antique to artistic along with special exhibits; and the American  Mountaineering Museum , where you can walk in the footsteps of famous climbers from Colorado's 14ers to Mount Everest through interactive exhibits and high-tech displays.

Or take a short jaunt up Lookout Mountain to visit the  Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave  and snap a stunning panorama of the Front Range. Craft Breweries & Distilleries

Grab a brew and some food truck grub at one of Golden's craft breweries like the unique gluten-free  Holidaily Brewing Company . Chart House offers delicious surf and turf options from its hillside location. And  The Fort Restaurant is a full-size replica of an 1830s adobe fur-trade fort, serving buffalo, elk, quail, beef and poultry since 1963.

Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre

This outdoor music venue is on everyone's bucket list! Make the short drive from downtown Denver or take a shuttle to catch an unforgettable concert under the stars. And during the day, Red Rocks is a free Denver park with hiking trails amidst the ancient monoliths. During the summer months, the venue also hosts non-musical events ranging from yoga and fitness classes to movies shown on the giant outdoor screen at dusk.

Lariat Loop

Drive the national scenic byway , with an authentic Western experience, located between Golden, Morrison and Evergreen.

There are lots of cushy places to stay in between adventures.  The Golden Hotel is located right in the heart of downtown and overlooks Clear Creek and the Rocky Mountain foothills. Also located in downtown is the boutique  Table Mountain Inn . For music lovers, it doesn't get better than the  Origin Hotel Red Rocks , the famous amphitheater's official hotel. Mountain bikes are available for guests to borrow. Another adventure-ready option is  The Eddy Taproom & Hotel , where stunning views meet striking brick buildings.

Music | why are some music tours thriving while j lo, the black keys are canceling | commentary, hint: embarrassingly low ticket sales likely have a lot to do with it..

In this 2016 file photo, Jennifer Lopez performs on NBC's "Today" show at Rockefeller Plaza in New York. (Charles Sykes, AP)

She was “heartsick and devastated about letting” fans down, she added. “Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary.”

Embarrassingly low ticket sales tell a different story. Along with The Black Keys — which canceled its Sept. 24 Ball Arena date (and entire tour) the last week of May — a Ticketmaster seating chart published by Variety showed that hardly any of the seats for J Lo’s concert had been purchased. And that was after she had already cut seven shows in April, and tweaked the name of the tour to include the words “greatest hits.”

Patrick Carney of The Black Keys performs at the Pepsi Center on Sept. 23, 2019 in Denver. The Black Keys brought its Let's Rock tour to the Pepsi Center on Monday night. The band is touring in support of its new album of the same name. (Seth McConnell, Special to the Denver Post)

A comparison between Ticketmaster’s seating charts for Denver and those in other cities, including Tulsa, Okla., and Pittsburgh, similarly showed tens of thousands of unsold tickets, Variety wrote.

Black Keys’ charts? More or less the same, which explains why the blues-rock band said it was retooling its current tour for more “intimate” venues — though it’s unclear if it will try to stick to the 31 markets already announced. Tickets for that and the J Lo tour will be refunded within 14 to 21 days, Ticketmaster said.

So who else has canceled shows? Omaha rock band 311 said its upcoming European tour dates fell victim to the “rising costs of touring overseas,” which made certain parts of the tour “unfeasible,” NBC News reported . Specific show dates from Pink, Justin Timberlake and the Jonas Brothers also have disappeared from ticketing websites with little or no warning, NBC said.

In late May, the U.S. Department of Justice sued mega-promoter Live Nation , alleging the company that owns Ticketmaster holds a monopoly over live events that has harmed consumers. So the reaction to the J Lo tour cancellation on social media focused on ticket prices. But that doesn’t explain why other huge tours are selling out, despite expensive seats.

On one hand, it’s an artist-specific concern. Musicians are subject to the changing ways in which we view them throughout their careers. There is clearly little national appetite for a live J Lo comeback. On the other hand, it’s a miscalculation on the part of promoters, who overestimate demand and end up illustrating how modest their artists’ draws actually are.

Empower Field at Mile High hosts concerts with at least twice the capacity of Ball Arena, and musical acts ranging from Taylor Swift to The Rolling Stones (June 20) seem at home there. Those fans are willing to pay top dollar for shows, but some big acts charge less than others. Billy Joel fans headed to his Coors Field concert on July 12, for example, can still find tickets for $53, which is about half what the nosebleeds for The Rolling Stones cost .

The difference is partially in the logistics of big tours. How much do you need to charge to make up for production costs — and support the dozens of people, and dozen-plus trailers, typically required for an arena concert? Will canned, paid promotion work in the absence of viral videos? In J Lo’s case, the announcement of her tour arrived with her “This Is Me… Now” movie, which got lukewarm reviews for its mix of bold choreography and self-aware commentary.

Same with the middling “Trolls 3,” which featured Timberlake as part of a strategic comeback that didn’t take.

Promoters may have miscalculated demand, but mounting a mainstream comeback is also tough, especially after years away from touring. One can only rely on marketing data so much until tickets go public.

Competition remains fierce, which is another factor in low-selling tours. Denver is a tour-routing mecca, drawing all kinds of artists to partake in the city’s voracious live-music appetite. Despite record-high average ticket prices, music fans here are generally well-served by their heroes.

As vexing as they can be, big tours still work. But artists who haven’t hit the road in a while should look hard at whether they’re justified — and if sticking to modest venues will ensure sold-out shows, as opposed to thousands of empty seats.

In an age of influencers and advertising onslaughts, audiences still decide the winners. Despite those marketing strategies and blustery promotion, celebrities can still be humbled — and take lessons from the fact that they can’t force a comeback, no matter how much they want it.
