Ariana Grande's Sweetener tour setlist includes her biggest hits and multiple fan favourites...

Ariana Grande kicked off her Sweetener World Tour on March 18 in Albany, New York in true Ariana fashion. Hits on hits on hits, show-stopping costumes, choreography for the gawds and vocals like you've never heard before.

She also includes a moving tribute to Mac Miller just before she comes on stage, playing his music in the arena to all of her waiting fans.

But what's on the setlist? While most of Ari's setlist contains tracks from the two albums she's released in the past year ( Sweetener and thank u, next ), there's also huge hits from Dangerous Woman, My Everything and Yours Truly - spanning her entire career.

What songs does Ariana Grande play on the Sweetener World Tour?

Ariana Grande Sweetener Tour setlist

Ariana Grande Sweetener Tour Set List:

1. raindrops (an angel cried) 2. God is a woman 3. bad idea 4. break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored 5. R.E.M. 6. be alright 7. sweetener 8. successful 9. Side to Side 10. bloodline 11. 7 rings 12. Love Me Harder 13. breathin' 14. needy 15. fake smile 16. make up 17. Right There 18. You’ll Never Know 19. Break Your Heart Right Back 20. (Ariana also performed a cover of Frank Ocean's 'Close To You' during night one, bringing the total to 31 songs...)

Of course, this is what's been reported by fans from the first tour stop. Some songs may be part of medleys or just included in the line-up as interludes. The set list may also vary depending on dates, locations and legs of the tour.

But it's a pretty impressive selection of songs, right?! 30 tracks?! Whew! Ariana includes 10 tracks from thank u, next , 10 tracks from sweetener , 4 tracks from Dangerous Woman , 4 tracks from My Everything and 2 tracks from Yours Truly .

There are, of course, one or two notable songs missing (two of Ariana’s biggest hits 'Bang Bang' and ‘Problem’ didn’t make the cut) but fans are actually living for it. Ariana has mentioned many times before that she is tired of performing ‘Bang Bang’, so fans are relieved and happy to see her perform the songs that she truly loves.

Everyone is absolutely losing it over the setlist...

Ariana previously revealed that she would not be performing certain songs on the tour, because they are still too raw for her to perform live. Ariana previously tweeted that 'ghostin' was left out so that she can " make it thru the show ".

if i can get thru it yea but right now it’s not on the set list. i jus want to have a good time with y’all and like .... make it thru the show lol. love u sm. thank u for showing this song so much love. it means a great deal. #thankunext https://t.co/88QobiegEh — Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) February 8, 2019

Grande's 7 Outfits, All With Matching Over-the-Knee Boots

Grande surprised fans with several outfit changes during her show, and her tour wardrobe contained several dramatic pieces, styled by Law Roach, in colors as striking as orange and as subdued as lavender.

There was an orange puffer coat, bralette, scalloped skirt, and matching knee-high boots. The boots and skirt were made custom for Grande by Unravel:

Grande's most NASA-inspired look was the striking lavender ensemble she wore under her set's giant moon: lavender zip-up chaps, a matching sleeveless top, and silver boots. Those were also custom, by Michael Ngo:

Grande's Minimalist Set Design

Grande's minimalist backdrop changed over the course of the set, with the help of jaw-dropping light projections. Umbrellas and other more abstract shapes took over the backdrop as the music progressed, and at one point, a giant moon appeared.

Grande's Singing and Choreography

Fans shared videos all night of Grande's spirited vocal performances and dancing.

Here's a glimpse of Grande's tour interpretation of "Bad Idea":

Grande let her monster voice go in "Needy":

The singer even rapped Nicki Minaj's verse in "The Light Is Coming":

And showed off some sweet attitude during "Thank U, Next":

Grande recreated the "7 Rings" video in style on stage:

Grande's Feelings About Her First Show (and Miley Cyrus's Sweet Comment About It)

Grande posted nine Instagrams from her first night on tour. She personally gave a glimpse of her giant moon set on stage and herself singing "7 Rings" and "Successful."

Her captions were emotional following the singer's huge night. "I really dunno what to say yet. for now, thank you will suffice. a dream come true typeeaa night. i love you. so much. thank you," she wrote in one.

"Mhmm my mind is all over the place and v emotional," she wrote in her second. "Thank u. i don’t know what i’m posting rn tbh. at all. i’ll hit u tomorrow bc.... tonight was too much. thank you thank you thank you. i love you. and i yeah. i love this song @pharrell. i love u @alfredoflores."

Ariana Grande kicks off “Sweetener Tour”: Setlist + Video

An empowering 29-song performance divided into five distinct acts

Ariana Grande kicks off “Sweetener Tour”: Setlist + Video

Ariana Grande kicked off her “Sweetener World Tour” in Albany, New York on Monday night.

The setlist spanned 29 songs divided into five distinct acts. Much of the material came from her two most recent LPs, Sweetener and thank u, next , including the live debuts of “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored”, “7 rings”, “Bloodline”, and “NASA”. She also sang past hits such as “Everytime”, “One Last Time”, “Break Free”, and “No Tears Left to Cry”. The evening concluded with an encore performance of “thank u, next”.

According to BBC News , the setlist originally included “Ghostin'” and “Imagine”, from thank u, next , but Grande ultimately decided they were “too heavy” to sing live. Both songs address her relationship with late rapper Mac Miller .

(Buy: Ariana Grande’s “Sweetener Tour” Tickets )

Grande did pay tribute to Miller in another way, however. According to Us , Miller’s music — including his song “Dang!” — was played over the arena’s PA system prior to the show’s start.

The stage was erected in the shape of a ring (natch) and featured two spherical video screens. In the venue’s concourse, there were voter registration booths encouraging fans to register ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

See video from the concert along with the evening’s full setlist below.

Ariana Grande hit the road for the first stop in her Sweetener World Tour on Monday (March 18) and the pre-show setlist featured a sweet nod to the late Mac Miller .

As the arena filled eager fans, eagle-eared Arianators took notice that one of the songs playing in the house was Mac Miller’s 2016 collaboration with Anderson .Paak “Dang!” The track served as the lead single on the late rapper’s fourth studio album, The Divine Feminine , which also featured a duet between Mac and then-girlfriend Ariana titled “My Favorite Part.”

Ariana Grande 'Sweetener World Tour' Dream Setlist: A Review

26 October 2018, 16:59 | Updated: 26 October 2018, 17:10

Facebook share

Ariana Grande has revealed she's taking her 'Sweetener' album on a world tour in 2019 and we've put together what we consider the dream setlist.

After plenty of headlines recently about Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson's split, the 'God Is A Woman' star announced that she was heading out on a world tour , so we decided to put together our dream setlist for the show.

> WATCH: Ariana Grande Sing Wicked's 'The Wizard And I' In Special Anniversary Show

Of course Ariana won't just be playing songs from the 'Sweetener' album, so we're throwing some absolute classics in there too - plus songs we haven't heard live in what feels like forever, so here goes nothing...

Ariana Grande recently announced she's heading on a world tour in 2019

Set Opener: 'God Is A Woman'

It was one of the songs that helped launch the whole AG5 era and it is an incredible opening to the show. Just picture it as the lights going out before Ari's golden voice belts out those first notes...priceless.

'goodnite n go'

Keeping it upbeat, 'goodnite n go' is another absolute anthem from the 'Sweetener' album that helps kick the show off in serious style.

'blazed'

Ariana welcomes Pharrell to the stage to perform the brilliant 'blazed' and shows off ALL the moves with an epic dance routine which proves she's at the top of her game.

'sweetener'

With Pharrell's influence on this album, it'd be rude not to invite the legendary rapper/producer to remain on stage for the album's title track.

Pharrell's adlibs from the side of the stage add to a seriously sassy dance break from Ariana and her group of all-female dancers and the show is already one to remember.

'successful'

Staying in that Pharrell vibe, the crowd goes wild when those memorable opening beats of the song play out around the arena.

Confetti rains down towards the end of the song covering the crowd as Ari throws some power poses on stage, re-affirming her status as the strong and successful women we know her as.

'everytime'

After embracing Pharrell before he exits the stage, Ari bursts straight into 'everytime' with yet more powerful dance moves before hitting some seriously eye watering notes at about 2 minutes 16 seconds in. Wow.

Ariana Grande released her fifth album 'Sweetener' back in August 2018

'borderline'

The special guests on stage aren't limited to just Pharrell and fellow legend Missy Elliott bounds onto the stage for a lively performance of 'borderline', with the dancers using ice creams as props during a standout routine - see what they did there?!

'the light is coming'

Ari fuses 'borderline' with 'the light is coming' with Missy Elliott still on stage and she calls out Nicki Minaj to perform her brilliant rap on the track.

Ariana isn't involved in the dance on this one as she sings whilst standing in a group with Missy and Nicki as the all-female crew perform an energetic routine that also sees a specially curated light show fills the stage.

'Side To Side'

As Missy leaves the stage, Ariana teases the crowd with the first few notes of 'Side To Side'a few times and she has a playful moment with Nicki before bursting into that iconic hook.

It's undoubteldy the best live performance of the song the two queens have ever done and the crowd can't believe how lucky they are to be witnessing such magic.

Ariana Grande's already teased her follow-up album to 'Sweetener'

'Into You' (Acoustic)

Sticking with the 'Dangerous Woman' era, Ariana puts on a serious show to remember by performing 'Into You' but she opts for an acoustic version in a brief stripped back moment of an otherwise intense live show.

'Tattooed Heart' (Acoustic)

After asking fans if they remember her debut album 'Yours Truly' (of course we do Ari!), she performs a stunning version of the beautiful 'Tattooed Heart' and there are plenty of tears in the crowd.

It's an emotional moment in the show and one that fans will certainly remember.

'no tears left to cry'

Bringing back the 'Sweetener' vibes, Ariana shows off her vocal prowess with the infectiously catchy song 'no tears left to cry'. After the song launched the AG5 era, it's certainly a special moment on stage and the dancers are welcomed back with yet another awesome routine.

'Break Free'

Having left the stage after finishing 'no tears left to cry', Ariana doesn't disappoint by re-emerging for the absolute fa-favourite 'Break Free'.

The lights, more confetti and even some lasers - everything comes together for a stunning live performance and Ariana's impeccable vocals shine through once more. How she holds onto THAT note at 2 minutes and 54 seconds we'll never know.

'One Last Time'

Keeping the energy levels up, Ariana's dynamic live performance of 'One Last Time' has fans convinced this must be the show-closer, however Ari still has one trick up her sleeve.

Set Closer: 'breathin'

After the crowd realise that Ariana hadn't actually performed 'breathin' during the main 'Sweetener' album segment earlier in the show, Ari thanks everyone for coming and making the show so special before putting on a momumental closing performance.

The confetti is out one final time towards the end of the song and it brings one of the greatest live shows we've ever seen to a terrific climax.

Well...we can dream!

Background [ ]

On May 6, 2018, Grande hinted at a tour for her then-upcoming fourth studio album Sweetener via her official Twitter account. Three months later, she announced that there were plans for a tour, stating that her team were "working on it all now". Grande embarked on a promotional concert tour for Sweetener , the Sweetener Sessions , which began on August 20, 2018, in New York City and ended on September 4, 2018, in London, United Kingdom. Grande announced the title of the tour as the "Sweetener World Tour" on October 24, 2018, announcing its North American dates a day later.

The first leg of the tour had 50 shows across North America and visited 45 cities, beginning on March 18, 2019, in Albany, and concluding on August 4, 2019, at Lollapalooza . On November 5, 2018, tickets were opened to the general public, and Grande announced Normani and Social House as her opening acts. On December 10, 2018, due to popular demand, second shows were added in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Brooklyn, New York City, Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, and Toronto. On December 14, 2018, Grande announced the European dates for the tour. A special show was being planned in Manchester. The second leg of the tour had 30 shows and visited 19 cities across Europe, beginning on August 17, 2019, in London and concluding on October 16, 2019, in London. On March 5, 2019, Grande announced that Ella Mai would be the opening act for the European leg of the tour.

On January 14, 2019, the shows in Omaha and Raleigh were cancelled due to Grande headlining the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 14 and April 21, 2019, and a new show was added in Las Vegas. On May 28, 2019, the shows in Tampa and Orlando were cancelled and rescheduled due to illness. On June 11, 2019, due to popular demand, additional shows were added in London. On August 9, 2019, the first show in Hamburg and the show in Prague were rescheduled, and the show in Kraków was cancelled.

December 19 - Entire Sweetener World Tour Crew (1)

Grande with the entire Sweetener World Tour Crew on December 19, 2019

On June 20, 2019, Grande announced another North American leg of the tour. The third leg of the tour visited 18 cities and had 20 shows across the United States, including the rescheduled Tampa and Orlando shows, beginning on November 9, 2019, in Uniondale and concluding on December 22, 2019, in Inglewood.

Grande announced she would be partnering with nonprofit voter registration group HeadCount to register new voters ahead of the 2020 presidential election in March via Instagram. She encouraged fans to "use your voice and get your 'thank u, next gen' sticker." In July, it was reported that HeadCount registered twice as many voters in partnership with Grande than any other tour over the last three years and that the Sweetener World Tour was the most successful artist tour for voter registration HeadCount has seen since 2008. In December, it was announced that the tour broke the organization's all-time record, with 33,381 voter registrations and actions.

  • "Let Me Love You" and "Blazed were seen in a video from Grande's Instagram story with Brian Nicholson and Scott Nicholson choosing songs for the setlist.
  • "Ghostin"" was likely removed due to Grande being unable to listen to the song without getting emotional.
  • Grande also had bronchitis during the majority of the tour. [3]
  • This is Grande's only world tour not to have any shows in Asia and Latin America.
  • This is Grande's longest tour, spanning over 9 months.
  • This is Grande's most successful tour, earning over $146.6 million dollars ($167.8 million in 2022 dollars).
  • Various celebrities, including Harry Styles, Millie Bobby Brown , Shangela , Billie Eilish , Jungkook , and Justin Bieber , attended the tour.
  • In total, more than 1.3M tickets were sold.
  • The tour broke HeadCount 's all-time registration record, with 33,381 voter registrations.

Stage design [ ]

The stage of the Sweetener World Tour is by far Grande's most innovative and unique stage design. The stage is inspired by astrology as the entire concept of the stage is around a giant diorama of the moon hanging from the ceiling. Similarly to the Dangerous Woman Tour (2017), projection was used for the visuals, lighting the entirely of the white stage, creating illusions of water flowing down the stage, for example. The main screen is a rounded rectangle with a half sphere in the middle. The central sphere featured visuals and lighting effects behind it. The catwalk was reimagined as a U-shape with two pits and a central B stage that Grande accesses to perform under the inflatable moon suspended from the ceiling. The stage also features a central lift through which Grande opens the show with a recreation of The Last Supper performing " God is a woman ". The lift is also used for the pink " 7 rings " car. During the song, Grande and her dancers would spraypaint the car, usually writing the name of the current city they are in on it. They would also throw custom-made pink dollar bills, similar to the "greedy dollars" from the DWT into the crowd.

Live album [ ]

A live album documenting the first and second legs of the tour entitled k bye for now (swt live) was released on December 23, 2019. All of its tracks were produced by Grande and Natural. The album reached number 79 on the Billboard 200. On June 12, 2021, CD and vinyl versions of the album were released for Record Store Day.

Meaning of Sweetener World Tour Setlist by Ariana Grande

The Sweetener World Tour Setlist by Ariana Grande offers a captivating and carefully curated experience for both the artist and her fans. Each song in the setlist has been chosen with a purpose, enabling them to flow seamlessly and evoke a range of emotions throughout the concert.

The concert begins with the haunting and introspective "raindrops (an angel cried)". This choice sets the tone for the show, creating a sense of vulnerability and emotional depth from the very start. The song serves as a tribute to the Manchester bombing incident that occurred during Grande's Dangerous Woman Tour in 2017, creating a poignant and reflective opening act.

Following this, "God is a woman" brings forth a powerful and empowering message. This bold anthem emphasizes female strength and divinity, urging listeners to embrace their own power and sensuality. Its inclusion in the setlist early on allows Grande to establish her own identity and encourage her audience to do the same.

"bad idea" takes the audience on a journey of self-discovery and moments of recklessness. The lyrics explore the complexities of relationships and the temporary escape offered by indulging in reckless behavior. Its placement in the setlist after "God is a woman" creates a juxtaposition between the empowering and vulnerable aspects of womanhood.

"break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored" showcases Grande's playful side. The song embodies a sense of confidence and liberation as she encourages potential partners to embrace freedom and let go of toxic relationships. This track fits well within the setlist, serving as a reminder to the audience to prioritize self-love and move on from unhealthy attachments.

The interlude featuring a recreation of a scene from the movie "Bruce Almighty" offers a moment of humor and nostalgia, providing a break before transitioning into Act 2.

Act 2 begins with the shortened version of "R.E.M", setting a dream-like ambiance. It allows audiences to immerse themselves in a different realm, emphasizing the theme of escapism present in Grande's music. The song's ethereal and soothing melody guides listeners into a state of tranquility.

"Be Alright" follows, making a statement of resilience and optimism. Its upbeat tempo and empowering lyrics serve as a reminder to keep pushing forward despite challenges and hardships. The inclusion of this song in Act 2 provides a sense of encouragement and motivation to the audience.

The shortened versions of "sweetener" and "successful" convey a sense of gratitude and fulfillment. These tracks celebrate personal achievements and the journey towards self-realization. By showcasing abbreviated versions, Grande ensures her performance remains dynamic and keeps the audience engaged.

"Side to Side" adds a touch of sensuality and charisma to Act 2. The song's infectious energy encourages listeners to let loose and embrace their sexuality. It serves as a reminder to enjoy life's pleasures without shame or judgment.

"bloodline" explores the theme of independence and breaking free from familial expectations. Its inclusion in the setlist emphasizes the importance of personal freedom and self-expression. While initially performed until June 21, 2019, its temporary presence contributes to the dynamic nature of the concert.

The setlist then transitions to the mega-hit "7 rings", a celebration of material wealth and female empowerment. The song's catchy melody and confident lyrics resonated strongly with audiences. Its inclusion in Act 2 serves as a high-energy spectacle, captivating fans and giving them an opportunity to sing along with their idol.

The interlude featuring a cover of "Close to You" (later replaced with "Adore") offers a soft and intimate moment for Grande and her audience. It showcases her vocal range and emotional depth while allowing the crowd to catch their breath before moving onto Act 3.

Act 3 begins with the soulful "Love Me Harder", a collaboration with The Weeknd. This track explores the complexities of love and desire, showcasing Grande's vocal prowess and emotional vulnerability. It sets the stage for an introspective and intimate act.

"breathin" follows, conveying a message of resilience and emotional growth. Its lyrics delve into Grande's personal struggles with anxiety and find solace in the act of breathing. This song resonates deeply with fans, offering them a sense of comfort and understanding within a larger-than-life concert experience.

"needy" explores themes of vulnerability within relationships. Its inclusion in the setlist allows Grande to showcase her emotional depth as an artist. The intimate and heartfelt nature of this song connects with audiences, further adding to the overall impact of the concert.

"fake smile" captures the struggles of maintaining a public persona and the importance of authenticity. Its inclusion in the setlist provides a moment of introspection, encouraging listeners to embrace their true selves. Grande's personal experiences and vulnerability shine through in this track.

"make up" explores themes of reconciling conflicts within relationships. Its catchy melody and relatable lyrics make it a fan favorite, uniting listeners in shared experiences. Through its inclusion in the setlist, Grande encourages her audience to find resolution and forgiveness in their own lives.

The medley of "Right There"/"You'll Never Know"/"Break Your Heart Right Back" takes listeners on a journey of love and heartbreak. This nostalgic act allows Grande to showcase her versatile range and performance skills while evoking a sense of nostalgia for her fans.

"NASA" highlights themes of independence and self-care. Its inclusion in the setlist serves as a reminder for audiences to prioritize their own well-being and personal growth. Grande's performance of this track displays her ability to empower through both music and lyrics.

"goodnight n go" (later replaced with "get well soon" and then "Only 1") provides a moment of tenderness and reflection. Its inclusion offers a glimpse into Grande's personal life and experiences, inviting her fans into a more intimate space. Each replacement of this song in the setlist offers a unique emotional experience, catering to the evolving nature of the concert.

Act 4 begins with the collaboration track "Boyfriend", performed with Social House during select dates. It explores the nuances of modern relationships, emphasizing the complexities and uncertainties that often accompany them. The addition of this track adds diversity to the setlist and allows for a dynamic exchange between Grande and her collaborator.

"everytime" captures the cyclical nature of relationships and showcases Grande's vulnerability and emotional depth. Its shortened version maintains the energetic pace of the concert while continuing to provide an emotional connection for fans.

"One Last Time", in its shortened version, offers a moment of reflection and unity. This song became an anthem of resilience and hope, particularly after its significance following the Manchester bombing incident. Its inclusion serves as a tribute and a reminder to cherish life and the power of unity.

The shortened version of "the light is coming" creates an energetic interlude that builds excitement among the crowd. This song emphasizes the importance of perseverance and determination while also showcasing Grande's ability to deliver powerful vocal performances.

"Into You" offers a dynamic and captivating performance, highlighting Grande's sensual and charismatic stage presence. Its inclusion in the setlist allows fans to indulge in the excitement and passion of this fan-favorite track.

The interlude featuring a cover of "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" adds a touch of sophistication and showcases Grande's versatility as an artist. It creates a moment of contrast within Act 4, providing a delightful surprise for the audience.

Act 5 begins with the powerful anthem "Dangerous Woman". This track solidifies Grande's status as a confident and empowered artist while encouraging fans to embrace their own strength and individuality. Its inclusion in the setlist acts as a reminder of Grande's artistic journey and growth.

"Break Free" follows as a shortened version, maintaining the high-energy momentum of the concert. This song serves as an anthem of liberation and reinforces the theme of embracing personal freedom.

The setlist concludes with "no tears left to cry", a triumphant and uplifting track. Its inclusion in the encore represents a culmination of emotions and serves as a message of resilience and hope. This song acts as a fitting conclusion to the concert, leaving fans with a sense of empowerment and optimism.

In summary, the Sweetener World Tour Setlist by Ariana Grande is a carefully crafted journey of emotions and empowerment.
