Happy New Year

We cruised on the beautiful La Espada through the Long Beach harbor on New Years Eve. The inclusive cruise featured an open bar and assorted appetizers. The DJ was on fire and the talented bartenders were pouring top shelf liquor. The crew were attentive and the captain kept the ship running smoothly. The dance floor was packed all night. Fireworks at midnight were spectacular. This had to be one of the best deals and the most fun for a New Year's Eve event. Will be back next year for more fun and excitement.

Hello, Thank you for joining us on our annual New Year's Eve Fireworks cruise! So glad you enjoyed the trip! We would love to have you join us again next year.

Took the family whale watching on New Year's day for the wife's birthday. Overall we had a good time since this was all of our first time whale watching, but I wished we saw more action out in the ocean. We were only able to catch one whale, which was a Fin whale. We saw this dude right before we were about to head back to the harbor. The boat itself was a decent size and there were quite a few people on board. We grabbed a seat in the back of the boat. This area blocked some of the cold wind that the people at the front were getting hit with. Our seating area also had a table which was helpful. They do have snacks available on board. Chips were $1 each. We did see quite a few dolphins. Numerous seagulls followed the boats. And that was about the extent of the wildlife that we saw. There were a few boats out, and we did get a nice look at the harbor and port. You get a good view of the Queen Mary, and other port ships, and we did see a cool looking pirate ship as we returned. Overall it was fun. They did have a narrator from the Aquarium to help describe some aspects of the trip. All workers were friendly enough. I just wished we saw more whales.

new years cruise long beach

Hello, Thank you for your review and for joining us on our whale watching cruise. We're sorry you did not see as much ocean life as you wanted and we would welcome you back again as we have been seeing lots of whales in the past few weeks, especially as gray whale season is starting to pick up.

So we went on the 45 minute harbor tour. It was supposed to leave at 11:30 I was told to come a little bit early to get seats on the top. So we lined up at the dock around 11:15,we boarded exactly at 11:30. I guess because there wasn't a lot of people they were trying to fill it up by announcing over and over that the cruise is about to leave so they can get more people to buy tickets. We ended up leaving around 12:45 we went around the harbor it was very interesting when we came back it was around 12:15 so it really wasn't a 45 minute tour. check in at YELP and you get a discount.

We really enjoyed this harbor cruise. We went on Christmas Eve day to get some time off our feet. The boat was clean but the driver had zero enthusiasm. Like none. Anyway, regardless we liked it, the weather was perfect and the price on point for any budget. Literally the only true gripe is that there are refreshments sold on board but for CASH ONLY. I don't know about anyone else but I rarely have cash on me these days. Perhaps a little electronic upgrade would help business some.

new years cruise long beach

Took the 45 minute harbor cruise that gives you nice views of Rainbow Bay, the Queen Mary, the Port of Long Beach, ships waiting to get to the port and the Long Beach marina. Older boat, but on a nice weekday afternoon it was not crowded, so seating on the top deck was ample. At $12, thought this was a good bargain. They sell beverages (including some adult fare) and snacks on board. It was obvious that the sea gulls know the kids will throw them some chips and Cheetos!

Hello, Thank you for your review of our 45 minute harbor cruise. We're glad you enjoyed your trip! Hope to see you again soon.

Went out whale watching, seen many seals and dolphins and in the end a whale ! The ship was clean the staff friendly. All in all a great trip out.

Hello, Thank you for reviewing our whale watching tour- we're glad you enjoyed your trip! Hope to see you again in the future!

OUR REVIEWS

What our guests say:

I really appreciate everything you did for us.

Hello Nikki, I really appreciate everything you did for us, and for your text as well, and I really appreciate everyone help. We did have amazing time, and everything went so great. Also, She love it, and it was amazing and everyone had so much fun.

Also, I took her to a harbor cruise last Sunday, and the Cruise was awesome, but we didn’t see whales, and we saw only couple dolphins. I wish I had see more because was first time for her. When I went last time to see the yacht was amazing and I saw 100 of dolphins.

Thanks again Nikki I am so happy for everything, and for sure I will come back again.

Thanks, David

Florence in California: Carnival launches new Italian-style cruise ship

new years cruise long beach

Carnival Cruise Line is bringing a touch of Italy to Southern California.

The line launched Carnival Firenze, inspired by its namesake city, this week. The vessel sailed its maiden voyage from its Long Beach homeport on Thursday.

“We carry more guests than any other cruise line from California, and now this ship is giving us the opportunity to offer more fun to more people sailing from Long Beach,” Christine Duffy, the line’s president, said in a news release . “The recipe combining this ship’s beautiful Italian theming with the familiarity of our friendly team’s hospitality is, in a word, perfecto!”

The ship is the second in the Carnival Fun Italian Style concept after sister ship Carnival Venezia joined the fleet last summer. Both were originally part of Costa Cruises – also owned by parent company Carnival Corp. – before being rehomed.

Where will Carnival Firenze sail?

The roughly 5,000-guest ship will offer Baja Mexico and Mexican Riviera cruises ranging from three to seven days. Stops include destinations like Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Catalina Island.

What can guests expect on board?

Built in 2020, Firenze was refurbished earlier this year to add Carnival-specific touches. Those include staple venues like the Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse and JavaBlue Cafe.

But the line leans into the ship’s Italian motif. The ship’s atrium was designed with Florence’s Piazza del Duomo in mind and the Lido deck takes influence from the Italian Riviera. There’s even a replica of Michelangelo’s David on board that was previously on Carnival Pride (the real sculpture is located in Florence’s Accademia Gallery).

The theme extends to the food and drink options, with eateries like Italian specialty restaurant Il Viaggio, Mexican-Italian fusion venue Tomodoro and La Strada Grill, serving Italian street food. Frizzante specializes in bubbly drinks, and passengers can sip craft cocktails and Italian coffee at Amari.

Other features include the WaterWorks water park and Serenity Adult-Only Retreat.

How long should I take a cruise?: Here's how short and long cruises compare

How much does Carnival Firenze cost?

Prices vary based on sailing date and other factors, but a five-day Mexican Riviera cruise departing on May 30 currently starts at $409 per person based on double occupancy, according to Carnival’s website . The fare includes much of the food on the ship, drinks like regular coffee and iced tea and more.

Carnival Firenze cruise ship arrives at new home in Long Beach

The Long Beach Cruise Terminal has a new resident — a 1000-foot-long, 5,200-guest cruise ship by the name of Firenze .

The Carnival cruise ship arrived Tuesday after traveling from Europe to Long Beach , which will be its permanent home base as it sails year-round, offering multi-day cruises to the Mexican Riviera.

The Firenze is an Italian-inspired ship that is named after the city of Florence. It was originally part of a fleet of cruise ships belonging to Costa Cruises, a popular cruise line in Italy, and a subsidiary of Carnival.

It was built and delivered to Costa Cruises in December 2020, but in June 2022 , it was announced Firenze would be coming stateside as part of the company’s “ Costa by Carnival ” initiative, alongside its sister ship, Carnival Venezia, which calls New York City home.

Both cruise ships feature Italian-themed restaurants, bars and entertainment, and unique Italian-inspired design and architecture.

It’s the third Carnival cruise ship to sail from Long Beach to Baja Mexico and the Mexican Riviera, joining the Carnival Panorama and Radiance ships. Firenze is the largest of the three and has the highest maximum passenger capacity of more than 6,500 combined guests and crew.

The ship is over 323 meters long with 135,300 gross tonnage, a measurement of a ship’s total internal volume, and has more than 2,100 passenger cabins, according to its  specification page .

Firenze’s maiden voyage —from Long Beach, at least — will take place on Thursday, with an “Italian-inspired” inaugural event and naming celebration being held the day before at the Carnival Cruise Terminal.

Carnival Cruise Line executives will be on hand, as well as actor Jonathan Bennett, known for several holiday romance films and his portrayal of Aaron Samuels in the classic teen-comedy “Mean Girls.”

Bennett is a longtime Carnival cruiser and even honeymooned on one of its ships, Carnival officials said. He sailed the first voyage of Venezia last May and has been given the unofficial title of Firenze’s “godfather.”

Firenze will offer several different itinerary options, with cruises ranging from three-day quick tips to seven-day excursions.

Cruises can be reserved by phone or online at  carnival.com .

Carnival Cruise Line’s Firenze Christened in Long Beach

  • April 25, 2024

Carnival Firenze in Long Beach

Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Carnival Firenze, was christened at its new home, the Long Beach Cruise Terminal on Wednesday, April 24.

Actor Jonathan Bennett served as the ship’s godfather and was made an honorary Italian during the event, which included a performance of Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” by Carnival’s Playlist Productions cast, an Italian blessing by Father Charbel Grbavac of the Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in San Pedro and a performance by Leslie Kritzer, Bennett’s co-star from the recent Broadway revival of “Spamalot.”

From the christening

“We carry more guests than any other cruise line from California, and now this ship is giving us the opportunity to offer more fun to more people sailing from Long Beach,” said Carnival Cruise Line’s President Christine Duffy. “The recipe combining this ship’s beautiful Italian theming with the familiarity of our friendly team’s hospitality is, in a word, perfecto!”

The 5,000-guest ship operates year-round itineraries departing from Carnival’s private cruise terminal in Long Beach.
