The concert of John Legend was just INCREDIBLE! It was my first concert and, I found this really good. John Legend is a person so nice. During his concert he told us to never forget to say «I love you» to who we love, he’s the definition of love. His voice is the same that’s in his video, no difference, the members of the chorus, the musicians, HIM, everything was perfect! He had choose a girl of the public to slow dance with her, it was magical. I have no words to describe this concert. Thank you very much to him, he reminds us to love people who encircles us, his words are honest and completely true. Thank you again and again to John Legend and his crew.

A sublime performance! John Legend oozes charisma when on-stage and belting out his top songs, taken from his recent album 'Darkness and Light'. His entire band and the back-up singers also got their own moments to shine!

Stand-out moments from the show had to include the lucky lady, who from the front row, was picked out to dance on stage with John Legend. Also his song for his new baby daughter was beautiful.

All in all the concert was amazing. He started off with his more popular known songs that were a bit more upbeat, then moved into his slower songs while playing the piano. He had three girls singing and dancing in the background and it was very cool to see a concert with that type of style in it. There were many songs about love so for anyone in a relationship I highly recommend going with your partner for a nighr out. For anyone debating whether or not to go to the concert, if you are in to a bit slower pace than most concerts or even a concert junky like me this is definitely one you dont want to miss.

Country music legend says his heart is full after ending tour in front of nearly 200,000 fans

Kenny Chesney said he needed a couple of days to process it all.

The country music legend closed out another long, successful tour over the weekend with a three-show slate at Gilette Stadium.

  • WANT MORE COUNTRY MUSIC NEWS? CLICK HERE.

He packed the house, performing in front of more than 180,000 people across the three-day finale. And, he said, that was pretty awesome, and also … a little sad.

“So a bittersweet goodbye to the 2024 #SunGoesDownTour,” he wrote on X. “I’m a touch tired for sure. But my heart and soul is so full from all the faces we saw this year. The energy, the laughter, and all the music will live within me forever.”

Chesney said he needed to take the time before posting just to make sure the Gilette Stadium slate “wasn’t an illusion or a dream.”

“The ringing in my ears tells me it really happened, that it was real,” he wrote. “I’ve never felt so much love and raw energy at once, and it kept growing after each night.”

Turns out, the tour closing dates also have a special meaning to Chesney because of the relationship he forged with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft nearly 20 years ago that helped make it all possible.

It all began with Chesney and Kraft taking a bit of gamble that resulted in them forging a close bond, according to a story from MassLive’s Ronnie Ramos.

The first step came in 2005 when Chesney booked Gilette Stadium for a show. Per MassLive , playing such a big venue was uncommon back then, and Kraft told the site he was “grateful” that Chesney had the confidence to do it. And so, Kraft said, he invited Chesney to lunch.

“How many stadium or team owners take the time to come down and have a meal, ask about your friends or your family?” Chesney said.

Chesney’s career was already rolling strong, but as the weekend numbers show, the relationship served a springboard to bigger things. And it also became about more than business. MassLive’s story highlighted that, and dove into how Chesney and Kraft now consider one another family.

“He’s an extended member of our family,” Kraft said. “He’s a very special human being. Very empathetic.”

Kraft’s support has not been lost on Chesney.

“Mr. Kraft heard something in me or felt something vibrating with the fans, and he went for it, too,” Chesney told MassLive. “He embraced us so completely in those first years. He took us — me, my band, my road family, even the fans — on as something he believed in. That means a lot. The caring Mr. Kraft has shown us has been incredible.

“Mr. Kraft told my father several years ago, and it meant so much to my dad, that we were family,” Chesney told the site. “People don’t just do that or say that. But it’s very, very true. And it goes for Mr. Kraft, his son, and his entire organization have made us feel so welcome and part of their family for years.”

To read more about Chesney and Kraft’s relationship and how it helped springboard his career into the big, tour closing slate, check out MassLive’s story here.

With the dust settled on the monster weekend at Gilette, Chesney thanked Zac Brown Band, Uncle Kracker and Megan Moroney for performing on tour. And he delivered a message to his fans.

“I love all of you and thank you,” he said. “I’m going to go jump in the ocean now. See ya when I see ya.”

In the summer of 2005, country singer Kenny Chesney arrived in Boston to perform at Gillette Stadium for the first time. Playing a massive football stadium was a rarity in those days and Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, understood the risk.

“We were grateful that he had the confidence to book a stadium show here,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft said. He invited Chesney to lunch a couple of days before the concert.

  • Listen: MassLive talks to GBH’s Morning Edition about Kenny Chesney

Chesney remembers that first lunch. “How many stadium or team owners take the time to come down and have a meal, ask about your friends or your family?”

Twenty years after his first appearance, Chesney returns this weekend for an unprecedented three sold-out concerts at Gillette Stadium. He has performed at Gillette more times than anyone else – 24 shows by the time he finishes the Sunday night show.

In exclusive interviews, Kraft and Chesney talked at length about their relationship, shared stories and explained why Boston is such a special place for Chesney.

Chesney’s “Sun Goes Down” tour concludes in Foxborough after an impressive summer-long journey that included stops at the country’s largest football stadiums (including Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, New York’s MetLife Stadium and Chicago’s Soldier Field). And while Chesney has broken his own records at many of the venues, he didn’t play any stadium more than one night.

Which makes this weekend’s back-to-back-to-back performances at Gillette even more special. The first two shows at Gillette sold out before the tour even started in Tampa last April.

The estimated 180,000 fans who will attend the three shows this weekend will push his career total to almost 1.3 million tickets sold at Gillette – about twice the population of Vermont.

During the past two decades, Chesney has developed a unique bond with Boston – and with Kraft. It was Boston where Chesney first named his fan base No Shoes Nation. Boston is the only place Chesney will play the song “Boston,” his ode to the region and its people. And Boston is where Chesney, for more than a decade, ends his tour each year.

It all started with that lunch in 2005. “Robert Kraft took a chance on us early,” Chesney said. “It was a leap of faith. People weren’t doing stadium shows; now it’s common place. But back then, that wasn’t the case. It was kind of unheard of.”

Chesney and Kraft forged a strong, lasting friendship. The friendship – like those annual pre-show lunches – continues to this day. “He’s an extended member of our family,” Kraft said. “He’s a very special human being. Very empathetic.”

Chesney felt from the very beginning he had met a stadium owner who believed in him. “Mr. Kraft heard something in me or felt something vibrating with the fans, and he went for it, too,” Chesney said. “He embraced us so completely in those first years. He took us – me, my band, my road family, even the fans – on as something he believed in. That means a lot. The caring Mr. Kraft has shown us has been incredible.”

Chesney also has felt the caring of intensely passionate Boston and New England fans. “The Boston connection truly grew from the inside out,” Chesney said. “People came, had fun, remembered, they came back with everyone they loved. That is a powerful thing.”

Chesney vividly remembers that first time he played at Gillette. “That first show was a beautiful night, and I remember not wanting it to end,” he said. “Just being on that stage, hearing those voices and how much those songs were their lives. It was incredible. And that’s the kind of thing you never forget, feeling all that love – together – because it’s not about me, it’s about us.”

Before that night, Chesney had performed in the Boston area for years, playing at what is now the Xfinity Center in Mansfield. “Even in 2001, 2002, maybe, when we were doing just one show at that amphitheater - and especially in 2003, when we did two nights that were crazy - there was something happening. I hate to use this word, but if felt ‘cult-like’ around the music. Something was different about the way people responded to the songs, we could all feel that onstage.”

That powerful connection inspired Chesney, from the Gillette stadium stage in 2012, to name his fans No Shoes Nation. “I was onstage in 2012. It was one of those surreal between-songs moments when my whole journey was flashing in my mind, all of it leading me to this place,” he said.

“Standing there, I was thinking about the people and how passionate they are, how they bring every bit as much of everything as I do, and it struck me. The core of our audience that really built this and inspire us was in that place. In that moment, you could feel the heart and the pride.

“There’s also a Virgin Islands piece to it, too, because so many of the really strong, life friends I’ve made in the islands are from New England. By then [2012] we’d forged real bonds, and it was so undeniable: the loving music, life, each other. But No Shoes Nation is even more than the stadium, it really is the people.”

Chesney continues, tying it all back to when he started playing Gillette. “Maybe No Shoes Nation was also named at Foxborough because Mr. Kraft believed in all those kids, too. He didn’t see just fans, he saw our culture, all the parking lot parties and tailgating. He sees the passion and understood how much all of this means to everyone who’ll be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.”

Chesney has seen the passion of his Boston and New England fans grow over the years. Asked why it’s so strong, Chesney doesn’t hesitate: “It’s strong because it was built over time without algorithms, but songs people lived in. It wasn’t a social media moment, it was life – and people could put themselves in the moment, make memories, sing so loud and find people who understood and knew what we were creating as musicians, songwriters and performers. Songs had time to breathe, and people could find themselves in the songs. That’s not a moment, that’s something that is truly shared.”

Through the years, Chesney also shared important moments with Kraft. Kraft recalled when, in 2015, Chesney was there for him and the Patriots. The Patriots were in Super Bowl XLIX, but mired in the fallout of the “Deflategate” scandal (allegations that footballs were intentionally deflated in a playoff game). The night before the game, Kraft was hosting a party for family and staff of the Patriots organization. Chesney had attended the party as a guest in previous years, Kraft said.

“This year, we weren’t able to book a musical guest of the right cache,” Kraft said. “It was like it was us against the world.”

Chesney called Kraft’s son and said he would come and perform at the party.

“When that curtain went up and he started playing, that was a special moment for us,” Kraft said.

The Patriots went on to win their fourth Super Bowl and the following summer, when Chesney returned to Gillette for his annual concert, Kraft appeared on stage with all four Super Bowl trophies. “It was our way of saying thank you for being there in a big way,” Kraft said.

Chesney remembers a moment he’s not shared before, when Kraft spoke with Chesney’s father. “Mr. Kraft told my father several years ago, and it meant so much to my dad, that we were family. People don’t just do that, or say that. But it’s very, very true. And it goes for Mr. Kraft, his son, and his entire organization have made us feel so welcome and part of their family for years.”

When Kraft celebrated his 80th birthday with a party in the Hamptons, Chesney was there. “I don’t like to tell that story,” Kraft says, “because I still think I am 35!”

When the Patriots played the Falcons in Super Bowl LI in 2017 , Chesney was in Kraft’s suite as the Falcons surged to a 28-3 lead in the third quarter. “His positive energy the whole game, even when we were down, was inspiring,” Kraft said. “He really believed we were going to win.” The Patriots went on to complete the greatest come back in Super Bowl history, beating the Falcons 34-28.

The Chesney-Boston connection continued to grow, and Chesney’s sports background – he played football and baseball in high school – played a part in how Boston ended up with another Chesney-related tradition.

“We didn’t always close our tours at Gillette,” Chesney said. “But I noticed a couple years we opened in Tampa and closed in Foxborough – and those summers were magical. The band and I found another gear, things just lifted. The fans that summer were even more incredible somehow. We did it again, and the same thing happened. Because I played sports, I’m a little bit superstitious. And those Gillette audiences are so special. It’s the best way to wind up what should always be a magical tour.”

Chesney also explained how one other Boston-specific tradition developed. “In 2006, I released a record [Be As You Are: Songs from an Old Blue Chair] I wrote mostly on my boat in the Virgin Islands. There was a song – and I ended up calling it ‘Boston.’

“There was this girl bartender from there who wore a Red Sox cap all the time. She was a Southie, and she had these baby dreads that stuck out under the back. That song practically wrote itself, because it was just this girl and the people from New England who were down there. It was a slice of their lives, and their spirit.

“And when I wrote it, I never thought that song would ever see the light of day, that nobody would ever really hear it. But it – like my friends – was special to me, and it ended up being ‘the song.’ “I never play ‘Boston’ on any other stage, other than Foxborough. People ask for it all the time, but I just don’t because that song, those people I wrote about and everyone at Gillette Stadium, that’s something very special and sacred between us. I think they know that’s our song, or think of it that way. And it is.”

Kenny Chesney

You can feel Chesney’s passion when he talks about his connection with New England. The country singer, who grew up in Knoxville and went to East Tennessee State, said he found in New England something he recognized from where he grew up.

“It’s a lot like growing up in East Tennessee,” he said. “People in New England work hard. They play hard. They love very hard – and that’s a lot like I grew up in East Tennessee. There’s a different kind of passion that comes into how people come to the show, and we wait for it all tour long.”

Fans looking to attend any of these sold-out shows can still shop for tickets online using reliable third-party ticket sellers like StubHub , VividSeats and SeatGeek . As of Tuesday, August 20, tickets for all three days are listed for under $100.

The NPR Network will be reporting live from Chicago throughout the week bringing you  the latest on the Democratic National Convention .

The third night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention continued to tout major star power at the podium and the stage.

In between impassioned speeches by political VIPs --- including former President Bill Clinton, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and 2024 Vice President candidate Tim Walz --- the heavy hitters of the music world lit up Chicago’s United Center arena.

➡️ Here's who performed (and who got bumped) on the first night of the DNC

Night 3 was host to performances by Stevie Wonder, John Legend with Sheila E. and Maren Morris.

Kicking off the night’s theme of freedom, the first musical moment of Night 3 was the singing of the National Anthem by 2019 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Jess Davis . Soon after, Maren Morris invigorated the crowd with her 2020 single “Better Than We Found It.”

“When lines of tomorrow are drawn / Can I live with the side that I chose to be on? / Will we sit on our hands, do nothing about it? / Or will we leave this world better than we found it?,” she questions in the chorus.

Maren Morris Tiny Desk Concert

The message of the track was fitting considering how chart-topping country-turned-pop maven has specifically distanced herself from country music in recent years, blaming the biggest stars in the genre for stoking “culture wars.”

“After the Trump years, people’s biases were on full display,” Morris told the Los Angeles Times in 2023. “They were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic. All these things were being celebrated, and it was weirdly dovetailing with this hyper-masculine branch of country music.”

Stevie Wonder proved yet again he knows how to put on a presidential performance. The R&B and pop icon wowed the audience with a rendition of his 1972 classic “Higher Ground.”

To precede his set, Stevie Wonder took the opportunity to share his thoughts and prayers for the pivotal moment of this election. “As we stand between history’s pain and tomorrow's promises, we must choose courage over complacency,” he shared. “We must keep on keepin’ on until we truly are a united people of these United States. And then we will reach our high ground.”

Seamlessly moving from the podium to his keyboard and joined on stage by his DJ, band and a group of dancers, Stevie transitioned into his lyrics as a sea of smartphones in the audience captured the moment.

In 2008 , Wonder performed at the Denver Democratic National Convention, accompanied by the gospel group Take 6 and welcomed by a roaring crowd.

To end the night’s music, John Legend motivated an already-fired arena with a rendition of Prince’s 1984 rock anthem “Let’s Go Crazy” with help from queen of percussion Sheila E. The boisterous performance was capped with an electric guitar solo by Ari O’Neal .

The EGOT-winner has been a longtime advocate of the Democratic ticket and vocal prominent of Kamala Harris since her appointment to Vice President, performing at the Biden-Harris inauguration celebration back in 2021 .

Both John Legend and Stevie Wonder showed their support in song at the back-to-back inauguration celebrations of former President Barack Obama in 2009 and 2013. Meanwhile, Maren Morris endorsed President Joe Biden during the 2020 election.

Rock legend admits faking farewell tour to sell tickets: Buzz

Deep Purple

Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan is admitting that his band faked a farewell tour in order to sell more tickets.

The rock ‘n’ roll legend told SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk in a new interview that Deep Purple’s 2017 “The Long Goodbye” tour purposefully led fans to believe they were retiring. They’re still touring today and even have concerts booked through 2026.

“That was a joke, actually, because it was the promoters,” Gillan said. “And someone said, ‘We’ve gotta sell some more.’ And it’s the good old standby, the farewell tour. So I said, ‘OK, we’ll call it ‘goodbye’ tour, but let’s call it ‘the long goodbye,’ and let’s make the emphasis on the word ‘long,’ so it’s kind of an enigmatic phrase.”

Gillan, 79, added that the group has “no intention to stop” anytime soon, too.

Gillan similarly shut down speculation that Deep Purple would be calling it quits after its current tour with progressive rock group Yes. The tour was originally announced as the “=1 More Time Tour,” named after Deep Purple’s new album “=1,” but has since been changed.

“That’s rubbish,” Gillan told Ultimate Classic Rock earlier this month. “That’s not the name of the tour. I think the tour is called ‘Unleashed.’ Not that it matters; it’s a Deep Purple tour and we’re happy and whatever.”

Deep Purple has been performing since 1968 and recently reissued the 1972 album “Machine Head” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its classic rock hit, “”Smoke On the Water.” The English rock band, also known for songs like “Hush,” “Highway Star” and “Black Night,” was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Other rock legends have also recently hung up their instruments due to age and health issues, including Aerosmith  singer Steven Tyler, The Zombies’  Rod Argent and Great White founding member  Jack Russell . Russell died earlier this month, weeks after revealing he had been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia.

“As soon as you start feeling unable to deliver at that level – of course, you adjust, of course, you adapt and make do the best you can. But when the energy level goes, that’s time to stop because then it gets embarrassing and nobody wants that. But so far, so good,” Gillan told UCR.

Deep Purple and Yes have two Upstate New York concerts scheduled, including Sept. 4 at the Broadview Stage at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) in Saratoga Springs and Sept. 6 at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Tickets for both concerts are available through  Live Nation ,  VividSeats , and  StubHub .

John Prine celebration 'You Got Gold' details announced. How to honor the singer in Nashville

John prine's family has announced full details for the annual "you got gold" events, honoring him in nashville from oct. 9-12, 2024.

Portrait of Marcus K. Dowling

Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award honoree John Prine's musical and philanthropic legacy will continue to expand during 2024's third annual "You Got Gold" series of benefit events, which will take place from Oct. 9 to 12.

Via Oh Boy Records — his independent label — Prine, who died in 2020 and is the crafter of songs like "Sam Stone" and "I Remember Everything," has been honored yearly since his untimely 2020 passing related to complications from COVID-19.

The Prine Family has announced a series of festivities, including a trio of "You Got Gold" concerts on Oct. 9, 10 (Prine's birthday), and 11 at the Ryman Auditorium, Basement East, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s CMA Theater, respectively.

A limited number of tickets remain for the Ryman Auditorium celebration, as both the Basement East and CMA Theater events are sold out. Each show will feature performances by various surprise artists, celebrating Prine’s five-decade career.

'You Got Gold,' when and where, more details

About the "You Got Gold" celebration, Prine's wife, Fiona Whelan Prine, offered the following in 2023:

"The time I spent with John on the road made one thing very clear - the community he helped create was always, and remains, at the heart of the music and the work we continue to do every day. I'm so happy that 'You Got Gold' will now become an annual event to ensure that we maintain that connection and grow our beloved community,"

The four-day gathering will also include pop-ups, a film screening, song circles, and more. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hello in There Foundation (inspired by John’s 1971 song by the same name) and community grantees it supports throughout the year.

The Foundation collaborates with individuals and communities where people are marginalized, discriminated against, or, for any reason, are otherwise forgotten. Benefitting organizations for the 2023 “You Got Gold” concerts include the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, Porter’s Call, Renewal House, and the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.

2023's “You Got Gold” tribute raised over $300,000 for the Hello in There Foundation.

Concerts at the Ryman and Basement East featured performances by Tanya Tucker, Lukas Nelson, Joy Oladakun, Rita Wilson, Ruston Kelly, Rodney Crowell, Katie Pruitt, John Oates, Amanda Shires, among many others.
