How to Search for Text in Safari With iPhone Find on Page

This article explains how to use the Find on Page function in Safari on the iPhone to search for the text you're looking for on a mobile web page. We include instructions for iOS 14 through iOS 4 .

How to Use Safari Find on Page in iOS 14 and 13

If you have an iPhone or other iOS device with iOS 14 or 13, follow these steps to use Safari Find on Page:

Begin by opening Safari and browsing to a website.

Tap the action box at the bottom center of the screen (the box with the arrow coming out of it).

Swipe up on the pop-up sheet.

Tap Find on Page .

In the search bar, type the text you want to find.

• If the text you entered is on the page, the first use of it is highlighted.
• Use the arrow keys above the keyboard to move forward and backward through every instance of your search term on the page.

Tap the X in the search bar to search for a new word or phrase.

Tap Done when you're finished.

How to Use Safari Find on Page in iOS 9 - iOS 12

For an iPhone or other iOS device running iOS 9 through iOS 12, follow these steps:

Open Safari and browse to a website.

Swipe through the second row of icons. Tap  Find on Page .

Type the text you want to find in the search bar.

If the text you searched for is found, its first use is highlighted.

Use the arrow keys next to the search box to move through every use of the search term on the page.

Tap the X in the search bar to enter a new word or phrase.

How to Use Safari Find on Page in iOS 7 and 8

The following steps work are the only way to use Safari's Find on Page feature on iOS 7 and 8 :

Begin by opening the Safari app and browsing to a website

Once the site is loaded in Safari, tap the address bar at the top of the Safari window.

In that address bar, type the text you want to search for on the page.

When you do that, a number of things happen:

• In the address bar, URLs may be suggested based on your browsing history .
• Beneath that, the Top Hits section offers additional suggestions.
• The Suggested Website is delivered by Apple based on your Safari settings (you can tweak these in Settings > Safari > Search ).
• After that are a set of suggested searches from Google (or your default search engine), followed by matching sites from your bookmarks and search history.

But where's Find on Page? In most cases, it's hidden off the bottom of the screen, either by the onscreen keyboard or by the list of suggested results and searches. Swipe all the way to the end of the screen and you'll see a section titled On This Page . The number next to the header indicates how many times the text you searched for appears on this page.

Tap Find to see all uses of your search word on the page.

The arrow keys move you through the uses of the word on the page. The X icon lets you clear the current search and perform a new one.

Tap Done when you're finished searching.

How to Use Safari Find on Page in iOS 4-6

In these earlier versions of the iOS, the process is a bit different:

Use Safari to browse to a website.

Tap the search bar in the top right-hand corner of the Safari window (if Google is your default search engine, the window will read Google  until you tap it).

Type in the text you're trying to find on the page.

In the list of search results, you'll first see suggested search terms from Google. In a grouping below that, you'll see On This Page . Tap that to find the text you want on the page.

You'll see the text you searched for highlighted on the page. Move between instances of the text you searched for with the Previous and Next buttons.

When visiting a web page in the Safari app, select the Share button (it looks like a square with an upward-facing arrow in it). Scroll through the Share menu and select Find on Page, then type in the word or phrase you want to search for and select Search .

Navigate to the web page in the Chrome app and select More ... > Find in Page . Enter your search word or phrase in the text field in the top-left, and Chrome will highlight matching words or phrases in yellow on the web page.

The Smart Search bar in iOS 15 is a hybrid of the old address and search bars melded into one universal place to type and go. You can access your default search provider, your browsing history, saved bookmarks, and even specific words on web pages, all through the unified Smart Search bar at the top of your Safari browsing window. It makes searching for something on your best iPhone more straightforward. Here's how to use the Smart Search bar in Safari on iPhone and iPad.

How to search the web using the Smart Search bar on iPhone and iPad

• Launch Safari from the Home screen.
• Tap in the Smart Search bar at the top or bottom of your browser.

• Type in some keywords or a phrase you would like to search for.
• Tap on the Go button at the bottom right of your screen.

That's it! Safari will now use your default search engine to scour the internet for you.

How to search bookmarks and web history using the Smart Search bar on iPhone and iPad

• Launch Safari from your Home screen.

• Type in some keywords you would like to search the internet for (I searched for "apple").
• Tap on the site or bookmark you would like to navigate to under the Bookmarks and History heading.

• Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
• Open a web page in Safari.
• Tap the Smart Search bar .

• Type the word or phrase that you want to find on the page.
• Tap the word or phrase under On this Page.

• Tap the navigation buttons to jump to each instance of the word if there's more than one.
• Tap Done when you're finished.

Everyone has their favorite search engine. Make sure yours is programmed as the default and use the Smart Search bar in Safari.

• Tap on Settings from your Home screen.
• Tap on Safari (you may have to scroll down to find it).

• Tap on Search Engine .
• Tap on your preferred search engine from the list.

Next time you open up Safari and type something into the Smart Search bar, it will use your newly-set search engine.

In iOS 15 , super-powered the native search functionality available to the left of the Home screen. When you enter a search term in the Search feature, you'll see suggested web searches and even websites based on your term.

• Swipe right on your Home screen to navigate to search.
• Enter your search term in your search bar.
• Tap the search result you want.

As you can see in the example above, the search terms that iOS found for "iMore" will automatically open Safari and search the web using that term.

The Smart Search bar can be at the top or bottom

If you're on iOS 15, you may notice that Apple switched the search/address bar from the top of the screen in Safari to the bottom of the screen. There's no functionality difference between the two options, but if you prefer the Smart Search bar to be at the top rather than the bottom, you can change the location of the address bar in Settings .

How To Control F On iPhone (CTRL+F)

Naturally, there is no “Control Key” or “Command Key” on your iPhone. But using the equivalent to “Control + F” on your iPhone is still quite simple and you can use it to search for a word on a webpage on iPhone. There are two easy ways to do this.

Launch “Safari” on your iPhone. Open up a web page containing a wall of text to be searched. Now enter your search term right where you entered the web address and scroll down to the bottom of the list.

At the top, you should find grouped hits from your browser history (if available), a regular web search, your bookmarks and so on. But at the bottom, you should see a special kind of search result labeled “On This Page” .

Tap it to get to the list of results on the current web page. To advance through multiple occurrences of your search term on the page, tap the arrow symbols next to the counter that displays the number of matches. Your iPhone will emphasize  the matches using a yellow highlighter color. Tap on “Done” to end the search mode.

You can also start the search via the Share menu . To do so, first tap the Share button (square with arrow) in the navigation bar at the bottom. Then select the item “Find on Page” in the Share menu.

Then enter your search term in the input field. As with the first option, you can use the arrow keys to jump from hit to hit. Tap “Done” to close the search.

How to search in a page or website in Mobile Safari

Ever since iOS 9, iOS has had a dedicated share extension to search the current web page in Safari. You just hit the sharing arrow , then choose Find in Page on the bottom row of options, and then you can type in your query. It works, and it works well, but it’s a very clunky method for doing something that requires a single keystroke (Command-F) on the Mac.

Today we’ll look at some alternatives for finding text in a web page on iOS, along with a bonus tip for site-wide searches.

Safari’s built-in page search

Mobile Safari has two ways to get to the same page search. I mentioned one above, and it’s the most obvious. It is also the most annoying to use, as you have to tap around finding the correct share-sheet item to invoke.

Another way to access Mobile Safari’s find-in-page feature is to just type your search term into the URL bar, as if you were about to visit another web page, or do a Duck Duck Go search. As you type, Safari will do its usual auto-complete business, but what you may never have noticed is that, at the bottom of the list, there’s a section called On This Page . Here, if Safari has found your search term in the current page, the number of results will be displayed. Tap this result and you’ll be taken to the same search-results view as if you had used the awkward share-sheet version.

From here, tap the tiny arrows in the search bar to page through the results. You can also tap the Done button when you’re done.

Search in a Mobile Safari page with the keyboard

The very best way to search in a Mobile Safari page is to use an attached keyboard. Just hit Command-F like you would on a Mac, and type in your search. This uses the exact same search interface as the non-keyboard method, but it’s way faster to access. Once you have accused the search, you can use the Mac’s Command-G shortcut to jump to the next occurrence of your search term in the page, and Shift-Command-G to jump backwards through the results.

A neat old-school way to search in a page

Safari’s built-in find-in-page tools are great, but they lag behind the Mac in one crucial way. On the Mac, the whole page is dimmed, and every instance of your search term is highlighted. Using Command-G to page through the results highlights each in turn, with your chosen system highlight color.

Mobile Safari, on the other hand, highlights only the currently-selected instance of your results. But we can fix that by repurposing an old bookmarklet that was written back before Mobile Safari even had a find-in-page function.

This bookmarklet was designed to add a page search to Safari for iPhone. It works by simply highlighting every occurrence of your search term in yellow. To use this bookmarklet, just visit this iMore page from 2012 and drag it to the bookmarks bar on your Mac. That will make it sync to your iPhone and/or iPad. If you don’t use a Mac, then you can do it the hard way .

The other big advantage of this method is that it is easy to use on iOS without tapping into the share menu. You just tap the bookmarklet in Safari’s bookmarks bar, and a box pops up ready for your to type your search term. It’s way better than the built-in method, which shows Apple at its worst, interface-wise: Functions are hidden to make the design appear simpler, but end up making it much more complex.

Site searches

Did you ever get forced to complete a captcha just to perform a search on your favorite internet forum? No more! Here we have a bonus bookmarklet that works like the one above, only it searches the current site, not just the current page. Just tap (or click — it works on Mac too) the bookmark, type your search term, and you’ll be redirected to a site-specific Google search. I use this bookmarklet many times a day. If I remember correctly, I found the bookmarklet here, on CtrlQ.org , amongst several other useful bookmarklets.

Now, the power users amongst you probably already know a few of these tips, especially the built-in features, but you can bet that you have at least a few friends or family members who are frustrated trying to do these searches. How to Search for Text Within a Web Page in Safari

Don't sift through long web pages. Find specific words or phrases on a web page faster with these shortcuts for Safari on the Mac and iOS .

How to Find Text Within a Page in OS X

The Command+F keyboard shortcut for Find could be the biggest timesaving shortcut you'll ever learn. With it, you can jump to sections containing a certain word or phrase. It also works in most programs or apps, so you can use it not just for Safari, but with Word or Notes as well.

1. Press Command+F to bring up the in-page search box. Alternatively, you can go to the Edit menu > Find > Find… to bring up the search box.

2. Type in your search word or phrase and hit Enter. Safari will highlight all of the instances of the word on the page.

3. Click the left and right arrow buttons to scroll through the search results.

4. Important: If you want to broaden the search results, click the menu within the search box to switch between "Contains" and "Starts With." 

So, for example, if your search string is "light", Safari by default will search for all words that begin with "light": lighthouse, lightbulb, and so on. Switch the option to "Contains" and Safari will also find words like spotlight and sunlight.

I use this 53-year old trick to get files to my phone, my setup for a better file browsing experience on windows, quick links, find in page, swipe to go back and forward, enable reader mode, save web pages for offline reading, use bookmarklets like browser extensions, clear private data and change settings, sync browser data with icloud, activate private browsing mode.

Safari is easy to use, but you may never find all of its useful features unless you go looking for them. iPads have many useful navigation tricks you may never stumble across, and Safari has its own tricks.

The screenshots here were taken on an iPad, but Safari functions very similarly on an iPhone. Safari for Mac is a full desktop browser and works differently, although all versions of Safari sync with each other.

Safari has a Find in Page feature, although it's a bit hidden. To perform a search for words on the current page, tap the address bar and type your search. Tap the Find option under On This Page at the bottom of the list to search the current page. If you don't see this option, scroll down -- it may be obscured by the on-screen keyboard.

You can go back a page or go forward a page by swiping from either side of your screen. For example, to go back to the previous page, place your finger at the left side of the screen and slide it towards the center of the screen.

Safari offers a special reader mode that simplifies articles on web pages. Reader Mode strips away all the navigation elements and shows you only the essential bits of the article -- the article text and its images. To view the current web page in Reader Mode, just tap the icon at the left side of Safari's address bar -- it looks like several horizontal black lines.

The built-in Reading List feature in Safari allows you to save a list of web pages you want to read later. It works sort of like Pocket, Instapaper, and similar applications. Like these other applications, Reading List also downloads an offline copy of the pages add for later reading, so you can view them offline.

To add a web page to your Reading List, tap the Share button on the toolbar and tap Add to Reading List.

To access your Reading List, tap the book icon on the toolbar and tap the eyeglasses. To remove an article from this list, swipe it to the left and tap the Delete button that appears.

Safari for iOS doesn't support browser extensions, but it does support bookmarklets. Bookmarklets are small bits of JavaScript that can be saved as a bookmark. When you open the bookmarklet from your bookmarks, the JavaScript will be executed on the current page. Bookmarklets can take the place of many browser extensions.

For example, if you use Pocket, you normally can't share pages from Safari directly to Pocket. Install the Pocket bookmarklet and you can open your bookmarks and tap Save to Pocket to add the current page to your Pocket queue for later reading. Bookmarklets can be used in many, many other ways.

Safari's settings aren't exposed in Safari itself. If you'd like to clear your private browsing data, change your default search engine, or tweak any other settings, you'll need to do it from the system-wide Setting app.

To access Safari's settings, go back to your home screen, tap the Settings icon, and select the Safari category in the sidebar.

Safari's iCloud integration allows you to synchronize your saved passwords, open tabs, favorites, and other browser data with your iCloud account. This data will sync back and forth with the Safari browser on iOS and Mac OS X, so it works well if you have Apple hardware. Just tap the cloud icon on Safari's toolbar to view open tabs from your other devices.

Apple no longer supports Safari for Windows , but they do provide another solution for Windows users. Install Apple's iCloud Control Panel and you'll be able to sync bookmarks with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Internet Explorer .

Safari offers a private browsing mode . Any browsing you do in private browsing mode won't leave any "tracks" -- history entries, cookies, and other similar usage data. Because it doesn't save any cookies, it also ensures you'll be logged out of any websites you logged into as soon as you leave private browsing mode.

To activate private browsing mode, open a new tab with the + button on the toolbar and tap the Private button at the bottom of the Favorites page. Safari's toolbars and interface will turn from white to near black, indicating that you're browsing privately. To leave private browsing mode, open a new tab again and tap the Private option at the bottom of the page.

If you have an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch that your kids use, you can also enable Restrictions. Restrictions function as parental controls, blocking access to websites you don't approve of and allowing you to lock down your device in other ways.

Safari 101 : How to Find Specific Words or Phrases in Webpages on Your iPhone

Apple's default browser for iOS, Safari , has a ton of useful features, and there's so many that it's impossible to know everything you can do to browse the web more efficiently. One you may not know about brings the Command + F keyboard shortcut right to your mobile browser so you can search for words or phrases directly on any webpage you're viewing.

Apple added this "Find on Page" feature way back in iOS 4.2, but at that time, Safari had an independent search bar next to the URL bar. Safari was then upgraded with a unified search bar in iOS 7, but the method for finding text on a webpage remained basically the same, and it still is to this day.

However, iOS 9 brought on a second, more convenient way to find terms on webpages in Safari, and we'll show you how both of these methods work right now in the latest version of iOS for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

• UPDATE: iOS 16 has another way to search for words and other text on a webpage in Safari!

Method 1: Use the Share Sheet in Safari

Go to Safari, then tap on the share sheet icon (it looks like a piece of paper with an arrow pointing up) in the menu at the bottom of the webpage (or top, if you're in landscape view). If you don't see the menu, swipe down on the screen or tap at the very bottom of your screen (or top, if in landscape view) to bring it up.

On the bottom row of activities, the one below the row of applications, swipe left until you see the "Find on Page" icon with a magnifying glass. Tap on it, then type in whatever term you need to hunt for on the webpage. When you're done typing, the first occurrence of the term will appear highlighted in yellow on the page. Then just use the down and up arrows to navigate through the results.

To see how many results are on the page, hit the "Search" button, which will collapse the keyboard and show you number indicators for what word is currently highlighted out of how many. To search for a new word, simply tap the search bar and type a new word or phrase in. When you are finished with your search, tap "Done" to quit the search tool.

Making 'Find on Page' Easier to Access in the Share Sheet

If you're doing a lot of searching, you aren't going to want to scroll through the share sheet to tap "Find on Page" again and again. What you need is for "Find on Page" to be readily available when you tap the "Share" button. Luckily, Apple lets you customize the share sheet to do just that.

There are two ways to get this done. First, simply tap and hold on "Find on Page" in the share sheet. The icon will lift above the others, which is your cue to drag it to a new location. I prefer it to be the first function in the list for easy access, but as long as it appears on the share sheet without you needing to scroll, you should save the same amount of time.

The second way to relocate "Find on Page" is to scroll to the end of the share sheet. Tap "More," then tap-and-hold the three lines next to "Find on Page." Drag the section to the location on the list you would like it to appear, then release. When you tap "Done," you will see your new "Find on Page" placement.

Method 2: Use the URL Bar in Safari Instead

For some of you, the share sheet method above will be more convenient, but it may feel more natural to use this method instead since it's the old-school way that's been around in iOS for generations.

Simply tap on the URL of the webpage you are on, then type out the term you want to search for. Scroll down to On This Page , and tap on "Find [your term here]." Your query will now appear in the search bar at the bottom of the webpage, with the keyboard already collapsed and the number indicators in full force. Use the arrows next to the search bar to jump between the found terms. And just like before, tap on the search bar to change terms or hit "Done" when you're finished.

That's all there is to it. Now you know how to find any word on any page via Safari's share sheet or the URL bar. Apple may have buried this feature pretty deep, but it's good to see that there is a way to "Find on Page" for every iPhone user.

Troubleshooting, how to find text on web page in safari on iphone & ipad with ios 12, ios 11, 10, 9.

With modern iOS releases, you’ll find a simple to use and easy to access “Find on Page” option in Safari, which quickly matches any searched text on a webpage in the Safari browser. This is a very useful feature that is now quite simple to access, let’s review how finding on page works in the latest versions of Safari for iOS.

Searching on Web Pages for Words & Text Matches in Safari for iOS 12, iOS 11, iOS 10 with Find On Page

Using Find On Page in Safari is demonstrated here on an iPhone but it works the same on Ipad and iPod touch with the latest releases of iOS:

• Open Safari if you haven’t done so already and go to the website you wish to search (for example, the always wonderful and informative https://osxdaily.com )
• Tap on the top of the screen to make the URL bar and sharing buttons visible in Safari, then tap on the Share button which looks like a little box with an arrow coming out of it

• Scroll through the secondary action items in the Sharing options screen, scroll past Favorites, Add Bookmark, Copy, etc to find “Find On Page”

• Type the text or number to match within the current webpage to search for it, then tap on the “Search” button, the first match will immediately be visible and highlighted in the Safari browser
• Use the arrow keys next to the search box to find next and previous text matches for your search phrase on the web page, when finished tap on “Done”

You can clear the search phrase and search again, or just tap the “Done” button and be done with it if you found what you were looking for. In the example shown, a webpage was searched for “Abbey” and the resulted was found, matched, and highlighted on screen.

This applies to Safari in iOS 9 and newer, older releases have different methods which are linked to below.

This approach is much easier to find matching text on pages compared to what existed in prior versions of iOS on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. While matching text phrases is possible in prior versions, searching for text on web pages in Safari for iOS 8 and iOS 7 and finding matches in Safari for iOS 6 and iOS 5 was much more difficult and a bit more confusing to access, which led many users to believe the feature didn’t exist at all. While Apple has changed this option several times, hopefully the newest version which is quite easy to use and access for finding text match on any web site will stick around.

Many thanks for the info… it’s also *super* handy that if you choose the “…” button at the end of the second row under the “Share” menu you can change the order of the options presented, allowing you to make “Find on page” the first choice (or second or last… where ever you want *any* of the buttons to be) when the Share menu is opened !!

I am trying to do this, but it won’t highlight it or take me to it on the page. It says there is a search result (or multiple) but it doesn’t scroll to them, tapping the Up and down arrows to move between search results also does nothing. I can’t seem to find anything about it on google. Anyone have help?

On < iOS 8, tapping in the Search space (even though it says Google or whatever your prefs have) brings up the Find on Page facility as well as the Google search bar.

On the Mac, its command+F, simple.

Good that it’s more obvious, but the old method still works fine (been using it for some time).

On ipad in iOS9.2 the Find on page option is found under the hamburger menu to the right of the Share icon

This is much better than it was in prior versions, which felt like a game of hide and seek.

I use Find On Page often for research, so it’s great to have it as a real option in the sharing action menu of Safari.

If you are reading a long article on the web and want to find a specific word from it using the Safari web browser on the iPhone or iPad. Then, you’re in the right place. Here’s the step by step guide, by which you can find text on Webpage in Safari on iPhone or iPad (running on iOS 14).

Finding a specific word or phrase is pretty easy on the Mac or Windows , thanks to the Ctrl+F or Command+F command. But, things are not the same on the mobile platforms. Yes, finding a text within a webpage in the Safari web browser on iPhone or iPad isn’t so obvious. But, the feature is still available, there are two different ways by which you can find text on the webpage in Safari on iOS 14.

Although the “Find on Page” feature is available on the Safari web browser, there is also a more convenient way by which you can do this, dubbed Smart Search bar. Luckily, both features can be accessed without sideloading any third-party app or extension.

Let’s dive right in.

How to Search Text Within a Webpage on Safari using Find on Page

• At first, Open the Safari web browser on your iPhone or iPad.

• Then, tap on the share icon (weird square box with an arrow pointing out) available at the bottom of the screen.
• Pull up the share options page and tap on Find on Page option.
• Now enter the word , you want to find on that particular page. In this case, I type the word “swivel” and then tap on the search button. It will automatically highlight the “swivel” word in yellow color, from the particular page. If the word is repeated in this article, you can click the up/down arrow button to dive into the next section.

Find on Page is one of the best and convenient ways to find text within a webpage on Safari. But, As I mentioned earlier, there’s another way, called Smart Search bar, by which you can do the same thing on your iPhone or iPad running on iOS 13 or iOS 14.

How to Search Text Within a Webpage on Safari using Smart Search Bar

• Open the Safari Web browser on iPhone or iPad running on iOS 13 or iOS 14.
• Then, tap on the address bar , enter the text that you want to find on that page. (Again, I type the word “swivel”.)
• After typing the word, it will show the number of times the “swivel” word appears on the page.
• Tap on Find “swivel” , from the address bar to get access to the complete search results.

The Safari will show you the first instance of “swivel” word results, but you can tap on the up/down arrow button to check the next instance or use the same particular word on the same page.

The afore-mentioned ways are one of the best ways to find a particular text on a Web Page. In case you’re using Chrome or Firefox, then you can tap on the three-dots menu icon and use the Find in Page option on your iPhone or iPad running on iOS 13 or iOS 14.

The Smart Search bar is a handy page option; you can find it at the top of your window. With it, you can find anything on the page straightforwardly.

Here are the steps to use the Smart Search bar in Safari on iPhones and iPad.

Step 1: Open the Safari browser from the home screen of your ‌iPhone‌ and iPad‌

Step 2: Open the web page on which you want to search.

How to search for bookmarks and history through the Smart Search bar

The smart search bar is such a great Apple feature that you can even use this to go through your browsing history and bookmarks and search specific words on pages in Safari iPhone.

Here are the steps to do so on your iPhone and iPad.

Step 2: Tap the  Smart Search bar  at the top (or bottom) of your safari browser, and type in the  keywords  you want to find on the page.

Step 3: Under the  Bookmarks and History  tab, select the site/bookmark you want to navigate

Step 4: Safari will present your results for the specific words selected

How to use Safari’s Share Sheet to search for a word or phrase on a Webpage

This is another way to find in page text and phrases, and its steps are:.

Step 2: Open the web page or website you want to search.

Step 3: Press the Share icon at the bottom of the screen in the form of a square with an arrow pointing out.

Step 4: Scroll down the Share options, and you will reach the Action menu containing the Find on Page tab.

Step 5: Type the text or word you want to find in the search field and press Search.

How to Search on Chrome webpage when using an iPhone or iPad

We have mentioned ways to search on Safari, the most popular iPhone browser. However, learning how to find on-page texts in Chrome is equally essential. This is because many iPhone users like to navigate on the chrome browser instead of Safari.

Here are the steps which can be helpful to find on page words on iPhone or iPad:

Step 1: Open the Chrome app on your Apple device.

Step 2: Press the icons with three dots which can be found at the bottom right

Step 3: Scroll down and find and tap the Find in Page tab.

Step 4: Type the text you are looking for in the search bar present on the top

Step 5: Use the  up and down arrows  to scroll through each instance of the text you have searched on the current page. For your ease, they will be highlighted.

Quick Website Search is a feature that makes searching for something on your favorite websites much easier, especially if you use that website's search bar often.

So, for instance, let's say you go to iDrop News and search for "best iPhone tips" using the platform's search feature. If Quick Website Search is turned on, your iPhone will store iDrop News as part of your website shortcuts. 

That way, in the future, if you want to search for "best iPad tips" on iDrop News, you won't need to go to the website and tap the search button. 

Instead, you can write "iDrop News best iPad tips" or even "iDrop best iPad tips" in Safari's address bar, and you'll see the option to  Search idropnews.com for "best iPad tips"  at the top of the search options.

If you select that option, Safari will automatically take you to iDrop News' search results, making it faster to search for something on your frequently used websites.

Quick Website Search should be turned on by default, but in case it isn't, here's how to do so:

• Scroll down and go to  Safari .
• Scroll down, and under  Search , tap on  Quick Website Search . 
• Enable  Quick Website Search .

By default, you'll probably only see Google or your favorite search engine under your Website Shortcuts. Unfortunately, you can't manually add websites in the Safari settings. 

Instead, you'll need to go to the website you want to add and use its search bar to search for something. Then, your iPhone will automatically add it to your shortcuts.

You can also tap on  Edit  at the top right corner of your screen to  delete as many shortcuts as you want.

Translate the Text in Images

Another powerful feature in Safari is the ability to "read" the text in images. With this feature, you can copy the text of any image you find online and paste it anywhere you want. 

If the image is clear enough, the results will be completely accurate. But that's not all it does; if you find an image with some text in another language, you can translate it in an instant without having to copy the text and paste it into a translator app. Here's how:

• Search for the image you want.
• Tap the text on the image until you see a small menu pop up.
• Tap on  Select All  if you need to.
• In the pop-up menu, tap the  right-pointing arrow  and then tap on  Translate .

And that's when the magic happens. Instead of just showing you what the text says, Safari will translate the text into an image. You can then choose the language you want to translate it to and even tap on Listen to hear what the other language sounds like.

Additionally, you can grab the text and use it to search for something else if you want — all from this simple but powerful feature.

Synchronize All of Your Safari Extensions

A couple of years ago, Apple made it possible to add Safari extensions to iPhones and iPads, bringing the long Mac-exclusive feature to its mobile devices.

While that's already great news, you can take it one step further and sync all your Safari extensions across all your Apple devices. That way, you only need to add an extension to your iPad, and your iPhone will automatically download it as well.

Of course, you need to allow your iPhone to sync your extensions across your Apple devices, and this is how:

• Scroll down, and under  General , tap on  Extensions .
• Turn on  Share Across Devices .

Convert a Website to a PDF File

There may be times when you want to save an article you're interested in for whenever you have the chance to read it. You might also want to share it with someone or save it on your computer. 

Whatever the reason, your iPhone lets you save any website as a PDF file, making it easier to find it in your Files app than on the web. Here's how to do it.

• Search for the web page you want to turn into a PDF file.
• Tap the  Share button  at the bottom of your screen. 
• Scroll down and tap on  Print .
• Pinch to zoom in on the preview at the bottom of your screen.
• With the preview open, tap on the  Share button  in the bottom left corner of your screen.
• Tap on  Save to Files
• Choose the name and location where you want to save your PDF file. When you're done, tap on  Save  in the top right corner of your screen.

And that's it! Now, your website-turned-PDF file is safely stored in your iPhone. You can open the Files app and search for it in the folder where you saved it.

Use Safari's Quick Actions

Like any app on your iPhone, Safari comes with a handful of Quick Actions you may not know about.

These Quick Actions make using the Safari app faster. For instance, you can use them to open a new tab, visit your Reading List, or access your Bookmarks.

To use Quick Actions, simply press and hold the Safari app icon in your Home Screen, Dock, or App Library. After you get a haptic response, you'll see a menu with a bunch of options for you to use.

Tap the option you want, and Safari will take care of the rest. It's that easy.

Bypass CAPTCHAs Automatically

Captchas can be annoying, especially when they don't work like they should. Fortunately, your iPhone can vouch that you're a human and help you bypass Captchas on the web without you having to do anything.

This is thanks to a feature called Automatic Verification , which should be turned on by default in your iPhone. If not, here's how to enable it:

• Go to your Apple ID at the top of the page.
• Tap on  Sign-In & Security .
• Scroll down to the bottom, and under  Advanced , turn on  Automatic Verification .

Note that this won't work with every website as the site has to be up to date to support Automatic Verification.

Safari's Find on Page Search Has a New Home in the iOS 18 Betas

Here's where to find the function so you can quickly scan a webpage.

Apple released the second public beta for iOS 18 on July 29, more than a month after the tech giant announced the software at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The update brings many new features to the iPhones of developers and beta testers, including RCS messaging and the ability to lock and hide certain apps . The update also places Safari's Find on Page search function in a new, easy-to-find spot, so you don't accidentally send a web page to a friend or family member.

Before iOS 18, if you wanted to use Find on Page to search for a word in your iPhone's Safari app, you had to tap the Share button -- the box with the arrow coming out of it -- in the bottom menu of a web page, and then tap Find on Page. But you ran the risk of accidentally sending a web page to someone else, to another app or even posting it on social media. With iOS 18, Find on Page can be found in a new place far from the Share button, so you don't make that -- potentially embarrassing -- mistake.

However, iOS 18 is still in beta, and I recommend downloading a beta only on a device other than your primary iPhone. Because this isn't the final version of iOS 18, the update might be buggy and battery life may be short, so it's best to keep those troubles on a secondary device. For example, I download betas onto an old iPhone XR to keep any issues away from my iPhone 14 Pro.

Note that the beta is not the final version of iOS 18, so more features could hit your iPhone when iOS 18 is released. Apple said iOS 18 would be released to the public this fall, but there's no definitive date yet.

Here's how to locate Find on Page in iOS 18 on Safari.

Where to locate Find on Page

Find on Page can now be found in a new location in iOS 18.

1. Open Safari . 2. Go to a web page. 3. Tap the Reader icon -- it looks like a rectangle with two dashes under it on the left side of the address bar.  4. Tap the icon that looks like a page with a magnifying glass in the new menu.

Find on Page works the same as it did in previous iOS versions. Start typing on the keyboard across the bottom of your screen, and Safari will highlight all instances of what you're searching for. To the right of your search bar -- just above your keyboard -- there are up and down arrows you can tap to go to the next instance of the word you're searching for.

You can also tap the magnifying glass to the left of the search bar to open a menu. This menu has two options: Whole Words and Match Case. Whole Words is the default search, but you can use Match Case if you're searching for something like the surname King -- like a famous horror author. That way, your search doesn't highlight words like "making" or "taking."

Once you're finished, you can tap Done next to the search bar to close the search bar and keyboard.

Safari 'find on page' function in iOS 7

I've downloaded IOS 7 on my iPad 2. I can no longer see the 'find on page' function that popped up when you touched the search bar when on any web page.

Is this function gone from iOS 7, or am I just not seeing it?

This function is there in the IOS7 safari.. It is bit tricky though with the unified search bar. Once you goto the webpage of your choice using safari, start typing the text in the only text bar available. As you keep typing, your search results will be grouped into Google search ( or the default search engine you setup) and 'On this Page'. You can click on any matches on the 'On this page' which will then take you to the page with search text highlighted in yellow. Also you will see a 'Find on Page' bar apearing at the bottom for any other subsequent searches.

Thanks, I suppose that answers my question.

It is there, but in my opinion it's horrible.

When I click the search bar at the top it blanks the page I am looking at and puts bookmark icons there for no good reason that I can think of. And yes if I type a word then scroll down, at the bottom (lost under the keyboard), in no way standing out clearly from the google search results, is the option to 'find on page'.

Where has the intuitiveness of IOS gone Apple?

Not only did you disappoint me with the latest iPhones, you have made a bit of mess of iOS 7. Other than the build quality of Apple devices, I'm finding it hard to find reasons to stick with you.

Although some parts of iOS 7 look nicer, I'm not happy with it at all, my iPad 2 is considerably worse after the update, slow, glitchy, animations are not smooth.

Very disappointed.

I frequently do a Google search, then need to find my search terms on the found web page. I now have to type out the search words again, which I didn't need to do in Safari on iOS6 and is tedious!

A free Chrome app for iOS has a very easy to use "find on this page". Its UI is similar to Safari and it uses the same base engine (webkit).

Somebody screwed up ios 7 big..not in all ways but in a significant way !

Was it Ive or Greg Christie?..

And todays news of Greg leaving due to conflict with Ive makes that ever more interesting!

I keep my fingers crossed that all these ui screw ups.. Which are numerous. .. Get resolved!

iOS 18: Using the New 'Search Here' Feature in Apple Maps

In iOS 18, Apple Maps has gained a new "Search here" button that makes it much easier to find what you're looking for in areas that aren't your current location or when you're exploring any new place on the map.

That behavior hasn't changed in iOS 18, but what you now get in addition is a "Search here" button that gives you more manual fine-grained control of the area in which to search. This is especially useful if you adjust the zoom level of the map, or scroll away only slightly from the original search – two instances where auto-populating results can be spotty or sometimes not appear at all.

Google Maps has had this feature for years, so it's good to see that Apple Maps has finally adopted it. iOS 18 also adds other improvements to Apple Maps, including topographic maps complete with trail networks and hikes (a feature that Apple first brought to the Apple Watch last year), as well as options to save favorite trails, download them for offline use, add notes, and get information like elevation and length.

Apple iOS 18 public beta 3 adds satisfying 'Thanos snap' to hide distractions in Safari

Ever wish you could just snap away an annoying ad on a web page just like Thanos snapped away half of the universe? Well, now you can, courtesy of a new feature in Safari on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

On Tuesday, Apple kicked off the third version of its public beta for iOS 18 , iPadOS 18, and MacOS Sequoia. With this latest update comes a cool new feature that lets you hide unwanted elements on a web page. Unofficially known as the Thanos snap but officially known as Distraction Control, the option is easily accessible from the Safari address bar. Here's how it works.

Let's say you're browsing a web page that shoves an ad, a video, or another annoying item in your face. Just tap the Safari Address Bar icon. A menu pops up with an option to "Hide Distracting Items." Just tap that option. Back at the web page, tap the element you want to remove and then tap Hide. That item fades away just like your favorite Marvel hero in Avengers: Infinity War .

You can select additional elements to remove one after another. When you're finished, tap Done. You're now able to browse the page without those distracting elements.

If you want to bring back the items you removed, tap the same Address Bar icon. This time, select the option to "Show Hidden Items," and the hidden elements reappear. Yep, just like your favorite heroes were brought back in Avengers: Endgame .

And there's more awaiting you with the third public beta for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and MacOS Sequoia.

Apple has refined the Photos app based on user feedback. First, the company has jettisoned the carousel feature that let you swipe left and right to move from your library to various collections. Since you can just as easily swipe down the screen to view all the collections, the carousel was redundant and unnecessary.

Second, you can now view more of your library in the top half of the screen. Third, the Albums collection now appears toward the top of the Collections screen for quicker and easier access.

Apple's redesign of the Photos app triggered some complaints, so it's good to see the company tweaking the app based on feedback from beta users.

Finally, you can more easily edit your Home screen. Just press down on any empty area of the screen and tap Edit. A menu pops up with options to add a widget, customize the appearance and size of the icons, and edit each of your Home screens.

To download and install the public beta for iOS 18, just follow the steps in this article . Apple has been diligent about releasing new betas for its various operating systems, both for developers and for the public. The final release of each respective OS is expected to arrive sometime in September.
