Assisting the driver to complete smooth cornering

The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is a function where the system follows the vehicle in front maintaining the pre-set following distance on an expressway. When there is no vehicle in front, the system maintains the preset vehicle cruising speed.

With the Honda SENSING 360, the function of ACC was expanded. While cornering with ACC engaged, the system detects the curvature of the lane and adjusts vehicle speed to assist the driver to complete smooth cornering.

How it works

The front sensor camera detects-lane markings to calculate the curvature of the lane ahead and make adjustments to the vehicle speed for smooth cornering. The Cornering Speed Assist can be activated only when the ACC is engaged, not when the vehicle is being driven manually by the driver.

How it helps

The system uses the front sensor camera to detect the curvature of the lane ahead while ACC is engaged.

The system automatically adjusts the vehicle speed while cornering.

With conventional ACC, when the preset vehicle speed was not appropriate to the curvature of the corner, there was a possibility that excessive lateral G-force would occur as it enters the curve.

Adaptive Cruise Control Problem

Our 2022 CRV EX-L throws a message "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" with non-stop beeping whenever the car has been sitting in a hot parking lot. After perhaps 30-45 minutes it appears to cool down and returns to normal. Local dealer says says this is normal??? WTF????? What other make/model has this as a "normal" feature??? Since it does not throw a computer error code they say they can't fix it! Any similar experiences and possible real fixes?

Are you using a windshield visor that doesn’t have the cut out for the camera? Another member has recently brought this issue up and that was the culprit. I have the Weather Tech windshield visor with the cut out for the camera and have never had that issue. If that isn’t your problem I would suggest going to another dealership because that’s not normal.  

• Keep taking it in until you rack up the number of required visits for a lemon law claim.
• Complain to Honda Corporate.
• Take it to another dealer.
• Ask the dealer to walk with you to one of their new cars that has been sitting in the sun all day to show you how normal it is.

We have the same exact experience with our 2021 CRV Hybrid. Exact same problem. We have taken to two different dealers and b/c there’s no code, they say they can’t do anything. I got Honda Service to keep the car for a couple of days to replicate the issue. They provided another 2022 CR-V as a loaner. They came back and said it was a faulty camera module and were ordering a replacement. Of course its on back order.  

As noted in other discussions in the forum on the same issue... .the camera is where the issue rests, and the camera does have thermal sensors in it to shut the camera down if it gets too hot. Why shut it down if it gets too hot? Well, heat at some degree will likely cause the calibration of the camera to fail, which means it would report wrong data to the HondaSensing system in the vehicle. Better to have no driving safety data, rather than wrong data. Under normal operation this is generally not an issue, but it could be in very hot weather with the front glass facing the sun, and particularly if you are using a sunshade in the front glass (which can block the passive vent ports in the plastic housing that covers the camera and mirror attach points). I see that in a subsequent post you noted the dealer determined the camera to be bad, but that may in fact not be actually true, just that they decided to replace the camera out of an abundance of suspicion and not wanting to see the vehicle keep coming in for the same issue.  

I'm not sure it is the camera. The dealer changed the camera on September 2022. It worked well for 2 months and now the ACC is not working. Bad Omen.  

Surely you should have warranty? Worth going back to your dealer and notify them so a replacement can be supplied. Let us know how you get on.

While a focused and alert driver behind the wheel cannot be replaced, Honda vehicles include technologies that provide passengers an extra set of eyes to monitor the changing traffic conditions.

Is there adaptive cruise control on the Honda HRV?

With the Honda HR-V, highway cruising has never been simpler! Honda Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) sets your cruise speed and measures the distance between you and the car detected in front of you; depending on that distance, it may apply the brakes or the throttle. The following intervals are detected by the ACC’s front-mounted radar system and windshield-mounted camera. It should be noted that the driver is still in charge of slowing down or halting the car to prevent an accident.

Mine was on new had to turn off and hate it all honda sensing is subpar  

When we were picking up our 19 Civic, the salesman was bragging about Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, etc. I said "How do you turn it off?". He looked at me like I'm nuts. "Why would you want to turn it off?" Well, I know how to drive. 'Passed a Driver's Ed course 100 years ago. I pay attention. And I don't have a cell phone fused to my ear...

I really enjoy using it on long trips...  

I learned too, just switch to CC..... no more problems......  

I switch it to regular cc on major highways because I'm usually going faster than other vehicles and it just holds me back.  

Honestly not sure had to hit buttons in different sequences until it switched over to "Cruise" mode as indicated on the dashboard. I tried doing it with main button and not having the green ACC and LKAS lit up but I think I had to have them lit and then held down the distance button until it beeped and switched over. Was at a traffic light when it did so, maybe try doing it in Drive and not Park, don't try it while driving.  

No matter what I do I can't seem to switch from ACC to CC and it's driving me nuts. I have a 2017 Civic hatchback. I start by pressing Main so the LKAS and ACC light up, followed by pressing and holding the distance adjustment button for 2-5 sec and nothing happens, no reaction at all. Haven't been able to find any solution.  

I came from owning an Element for the last 15 year I find all of these fancy techy things very distracting and annoying (except the backup camera) everything else is shutoff or never used. Is there a way to disconnect the electronic lift hatch ? I wish Honda would offer the Passport in a stripped down version

Two Hondas in a row that I paid for things like this that don't work right just so they can say they have it on the vehicle..... sad  

I'm not sure I did the right thing, I honestly think I did. We are very happy with our PP so far. But I bought the EXL because I read many posts just like this when determining which level to buy. I pictured the mirrors trying to fold in and out while they were encased in ice. Scary.  

Adaptive cruise, lane-keeping assist, forward crash mitigation, etc. - all adding $1000+ to the cost, while my Civic LX doesn't come with Variable Intermittant Wipers... Attorneys rule!  

an other annoyance is blind spot deal when you are in the passing lane and next to the barriers it goes off on every joint where the metal plate inside that hooks them together ......  

I remember my parents purchasing their 1977 Olds Cutlass Supreme - they were driving a 65 Dodge Dart and all the options you had to request and pay for - like Air Conditioning, electronic locks and windows (we have been rolling down our windows for years, why the heck do I need electric windows - just something to break..like electric locks - I can put the button down on the door to lock the door).....You had the option of NOT wanting get something and just have a basic car....without the stuff that was going to break..now it is all standard....The Auto-Off feature I turn off every start up. Part of my routine for starting the car....

It has a tendency to falsely detect a collision and automatically slamm on the brakes with little or no warning.  

That should be under warranty then. Never had that happen to either of ours.  

I am with the majority; ACC is VERY jerky. I had a Civic and the experience was quite different. Hopefully, Mother Honda will smooth out the algorithms,  

My mom's CR-V has all this stuff. I thought it was unneeded and excessive. But I drove it to Houston one day and I really liked the ACC. I stay far away from other drivers and I hate when they can't maintain speed. I notice it's usually non-Hondas. If traffic is kind of light, as soon as it beeps, I know they're slowing down (where I can't even perceive it with my eye yet) and I can change lanes to go around them. If traffic is kind of heavy, it'll keep me at a safe distance and I won't have to deal with slowing down and speeding up to match them. As for the collision braking, I had someone zip in my lane, right in front of me, and slow down. I caught it in time but if I was sneezing at that exact moment or taking a sip of water or whatever, it could've added a few extra seconds. For me, at least for that trip, they seemed like emergency systems that were there when needed. Kind of like air bags.
