Jp morgan to acquire frosch luxury travel agency.

JP Morgan Chase has signed a definitive agreement to buy corporate and luxury travel agency Frosch .

The deal represents a new “business line” for the bank, according to Bryan Leibman, the agency’s president and CEO.

“It should give all of us immense pride to be recognized for our industry leading achievements and excellence and to become a foundation for JP Morgan Chase as they enter a new business line,” he said this week in an internal staff memo seen by Skift.

However, like Capital One, JP Morgan has already made significant inroads into the travel sector over recent years, snapping up cxLoyalty Group Holdings’ global loyalty division in December 2020. The deal included cxLoyalty’s full service travel agency, as well as technology platforms, gift card, merchandise and points bank businesses.

Taking over family-owned Frosch and its experienced travel consultants gives it more opportunities to better manage its travel bookings, with a human touch rather than artificial intelligence called for in the premium corporate and luxury sectors. The agency, which is co-headquartered in New York City and Houston, has offices in more than 40 locations worldwide. It was founded in 1972 and has more than 2,000 employees.

Banks and credit card company Capital One helped online travel agency Hopper raise $170 million in new funding last year . Other notable Capital One deals include buying startup Freebird in 2020 , and last year it acquired most of the employees and technology of Lola , a corporate travel booking and expense app.

U.S. Bancorp bought Will Smith-Backed travel platform TravelBank for $200 million in November last year .

For now, Frosch and other brands including Plaza Travel, LUXE Travel, Mann Travels and Valerie Wilson Travel, which it acquired in May last year , will remain intact, and continue “under the JP Morgan Chase umbrella,” according to Leibman. Frosch also received a minority investment from private equity firm EagleTree Capital in February last year.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. reportedly signed an agreement to purchase FROSCH International Travel Inc., a corporate and luxury travel agency, travel industry news site Skift reported Feb. 17, citing a FROSCH internal staff memo seen by the outlet.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the Skift report.

The deal represents a new "business line" for the bank, Bryan Leibman, the travel agency's president and CEO, said in the memo, according to the news outlet.

JPMorgan has previously moved into the travel sector, including acquiring cxLoyalty Group Holdings Inc.'s global loyalty division in December 2020.

The travel agency, which is co-headquartered in New York City and Houston, has offices in more than 40 locations worldwide, Skift noted.

Frosch and its brands including Plaza Travel, LUXE Travel, Mann Travels and Valerie Wilson Travel, Inc. will fall "under the JPMorgan Chase umbrella" and stay intact for now, the report said, citing Leibman.

JP Morgan to Acquire Frosch Luxury Travel Agency

Matthew Parsons , Skift

This deal would break the mold of so many technology plays we've seen to date, giving JP Morgan an edge in supporting bookings with experienced consultants.

Airbnb 1Q Revenue Growth Accelerates as Travel Demand Holds

frosch travel revenue

By Ben Glickman

Airbnb posted higher profit and revenue in the first quarter as travelers continued to book stays around major events.

The San Francisco-based short-term rental company posted a profit of $264 million, or 41 cents a share, in the quarter ended March 31, compared with a profit of $117 million, or 18 cents a share, a year ago. Analysts polled by FactSet expected per-share profit of 23 cents.

Revenue rose 18% to $2.14 billion, beating the $2.06 billion forecast by analysts and the company's own guidance.

Gross booking value was up 12% from a year earlier to $22.9 billion, driven by a 9.5% increase in nights and experiences booked and a 3% small increase in average rates.

Wall Street analysts were expecting $22.41 billion in gross bookings.

Airbnb said it expects revenue of $2.68 billion to $2.74 billion in the second quarter, which would represent growth of 8% to 10%. Analysts polled by FactSet expect $2.74 billion in revenue.

The timing of the Easter holiday would be a sequential headwind in the second quarter, the company said, after benefiting results in first quarter.

Airbnb expects revenue growth to accelerate in the third quarter as the company has already seen strong demand around the Olympics and other events.

(Reuters) -Airbnb reported a higher quarterly profit on Wednesday but forecast second-quarter revenue below Wall Street expectations, sending shares of the vacation rental company down 8% after the bell.

Accommodation companies in the first quarter have seen the demand for travel in regions outside of North America boost earnings as travel accelerates in Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

Airbnb's first-quarter revenue rose 18% year-over-year to $2.14 billion. However, the company forecast second-quarter revenue between $2.68 billion and $2.74 billion, below analysts' estimates of $2.74 billion, due in part to currency exchange rates and the timing of the Easter holiday.

The holiday was beneficial to the first quarter as more people traveled, but it may weigh on bookings in the second quarter, the company said.

"We'd like to deliver higher growth than stable growth, but our outlook obviously reflects the trends that we have seen quarter-to-date," Chief Financial Officer Ellie Mertz said on a call with analysts.

Nights and experiences booked in the first quarter increased 9.5% year-over-year to about $133 million driven by a 21% and 19% growth in bookings in Asia-Pacific and Latin America, respectively. The company said bookings in North America "slightly decelerated" during the quarter.

The San Francisco-based company reported net income of $264 million, or 41 cents per share, for the quarter ended March, which beat analyst expectations of 24 cents per share, according to LSEG.

The average cost per night in an Airbnb or average daily rate was $173 in the reported quarter, a 3% rise compared to the year prior. The company saw an increase in shorter stays and bookings of entire homes which drove margin growth.

Active listings on the platform grew 17% year-over-year with Asia and Latin America leading the additions.

Looking ahead to the summer, Airbnb said it expects year-over-year revenue growth to accelerate in the third quarter due in part to travel demand centered around international events like the Olympics and Euro Cup.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.
