Field Trip Reflection Sheet (Free Printable)

Make your time outside the classroom meaningful.

Student on a field trip and a printable field trip reflection sheet.

Field trips are amazing! They give kids the chance to explore a new place, learn more about specific topics, talk to experts, and see demonstrations and examples you just can’t do at school. Whether you’re taking a field trip to a local library or zoo or you’re participating in a virtual field trip to a space center or aquarium, you’ll want the field trip to be a pivotal learning experience. That’s where our Field Trip Reflection Sheet comes in.

The impact field trips have on students often has to do with how they engage with the information they learn. Incorporating a field trip reflection worksheet helps students focus on what’s important to them and what it means for their learning and life. Get the free Field Trip Reflection Worksheet by simply filling out the form on this page .

What kind of reflection sheets are in the bundle?

You’ll find two field trip reflection sheets, one for elementary schoolers and one for middle and high schoolers. Each reflection sheet works for either in-person or virtual field trips.

Elementary School Field Trip Reflection Sheet

Printable field trip reflection sheet for elementary school.

Elementary schoolers can identify where they are going and what they are going to learn about before they head out of the building or log in to the field trip. Then, during the field trip, students record observations and information they learn. After the trip, students choose one response as a reflection to help consolidate their learning.

Middle and High School Field Trip Reflection Sheet

Printable field trip reflection sheet for middle and high school.

Before the trip, older students activate background knowledge so they’re primed to connect new information with what they already know. Once on the trip, they record observations and information. After the trip, students can choose a question or answer a teacher-directed question to consolidate what they learned.

What are some field trip reflection questions?

Here are ideas for field trip reflection questions that you can incorporate into the Field Trip Reflection Sheet:

  • What was the most important thing you learned on today’s field trip?
  • What should someone else know about this topic?
  • What was your favorite part of this field trip?
  • Who else would enjoy this field trip and why?
  • How does the information you learned on today’s field trip connect with what you already knew?
  • What is one way that the information you learned today confirms what you already knew? What is one way that it challenged what you already knew?
  • In five years, what will you remember from this field trip?

Use the Field Trip Reflection Worksheet as a way to keep students focused. You can also use it as an exit ticket or assessment after the trip. This is especially helpful for field trips that require parent chaperones as you can see what students were doing during the trip and provide some accountability for students’ learning.

trip report reviewer jobs

On the 5th of August, 2024, our class embarked on an educational trip to the Natural History Museum. This visit aimed to enhance our understanding of natural sciences, particularly focusing on paleontology, anthropology, and the evolution of species. The trip was organized by our science teacher, Mrs. Smith, and included all students from Grade 8.

We departed from school at 9:00 AM and arrived at the museum by 10:00 AM. The visit was structured into several segments:

  • Guided Tour (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
  • Lunch Break (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)
  • Interactive Workshops (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM)
  • Free Exploration Time (3:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
  • Departure (4:00 PM)

Our guided tour began with a fascinating journey through the dinosaur exhibits. Our guide, Mr. Johnson, provided detailed explanations about the different species of dinosaurs, their habitats, and theories on their extinction. The highlight was the life-sized T-Rex model, which moved and roared, captivating everyone’s attention.

Next, we explored the human evolution section. This part of the tour included displays of early human skulls, tools, and a diorama showcasing the development of human societies. The guide’s engaging storytelling helped us understand the complexity and significance of human evolution.

We had a packed lunch in the museum’s outdoor picnic area. This break allowed us to relax and discuss our favorite parts of the tour so far. Many of us were thrilled by the dinosaur exhibit, while others were fascinated by the ancient human artifacts.

After lunch, we participated in two interactive workshops. The first workshop was on fossil identification, where we learned how to distinguish between different types of fossils and their origins. We even got to handle some real fossils, which was a unique and memorable experience.

The second workshop focused on DNA extraction from strawberries. This hands-on activity allowed us to learn about genetic material and its importance in studying living organisms. The instructors guided us through the process, making it both educational and fun.

The last hour of our visit was dedicated to free exploration. We split into small groups and explored various sections of the museum that interested us the most. Some of us revisited the dinosaur exhibit, while others spent time in the marine life section, admiring the impressive collection of aquatic species and corals.

We departed the museum at 4:00 PM and arrived back at school by 5:00 PM. The trip was an enriching experience that brought our classroom lessons to life. It not only expanded our knowledge of natural history but also inspired many of us to consider careers in science.

Overall, the visit to the Natural History Museum was a resounding success. We are grateful to Mrs. Smith for organizing this trip and to the museum staff for providing such an informative and enjoyable experience.

  • Feedback : A survey will be conducted in our next class to gather feedback and suggestions for future trips

Report Writing on Educational Tour

Educational Tour From School

By Ashlyn Tony

February 23, 2018; Karnataka: A bright morning, our tutor came in and announced we are going for a field trip. We were excited but most of us didn’t know what was a field trip and what was the motive behind it. We packed ourselves and led ourselves to our school bus.

During the ride, our tutor explained to us what a field trip was and why it was conducted. We went to a zoological park. It was a different experience from classroom learning. We students grasped the concept much faster. The method of learning through experience was different. We could learn things outside textbooks.

This is done so that students can look into a particular topic from all possible perspectives enabling them to learn everything. It has also been proved that field trips are an excellent way for incorporating knowledge into young minds. This also helps students to learn and understand topics on their own without further explanations.

They help indirect learning and help students in finding things by themselves which is better than spoon-feeding information. This experience helps students to retain in their memories what they have learnt for a much longer period.

Field Trip To A Butterfly Garden

By Rachel Harris

January 1, 2019; New Delhi: A field trip to a nearby butterfly garden was arranged for the kindergarten students. They were all excited about the idea of visiting a butterfly garden. We took the school bus to the garden. The students were so excited to see different types of butterflies.

Students observed different varieties and their teachers helped them understand the different features. They studied the different stages of growth. They saw a huge variety of butterflies. The students were so excited. By the end, students started recognising the different varieties of butterflies. They learnt all they could about Butterflies.

Also, they used this experience for instilling in students the importance of nature. They understood that the reason behind why they could not see butterflies like before is because of the disturbances humans create in the environment.

They were also taught the importance of trees in nature. They pledged that they would not hurt mother nature and will prevent unnecessary cutting of trees. Thus, the field trip was successful.

College Field Trip

By Saira Rajput

March 2, 2016; Bombay: We students were looking forward to the field trips. We were eagerly waiting for the days to come. We had pre-planned everything. Every single detail was planned and everything was set. We were visiting places with magnificent architectural designs.

The different varieties of ideas used made us think about the brilliance of the architecture. The designs, mural paintings, the statues, and the engraving on the walls. For some of us, this was the first experience. We learned about things that one should think about before planning and executing architectural designs.

This trip also taught us about the importance of precision in planning a design. One should be able to foresee everything before starting the actual construction. The quality of the materials, the materials used and also how much is the design applicable in a particular place.

Since some materials cannot be used in some climatic conditions, one should take utmost care in selecting materials for the construction. The trip made us realise our potential and also the importance of planning and precision in our field.

Field Trip To A Cow Farm

 By Mark Anthony

September 5, 2015; Gujarat: This field trip was planned so as to make students understand how a farm works. On reaching the farm, students saw a large number of cows, of different varieties. One could see the huge machines used for milking the cows. The farm had a large number of workers. There was a veterinarian for weekly checkups.

There were employees cleaning the farms. There were separate employees for each pair of cows. Cows at this farm were given high-protein foods. The sheds were cleaned regularly to control diseases that might affect the cows. One could see the care given to the cows by looking at them. After the milking process, they are sent to a nearby plant for pasteurization and packaging.

There are special sheds for pregnant cows so as to give them special care. The calves are very well taken care of. The students could understand the importance of cleanliness and regular checkups. This experience made the students realise something new and made them learn new things.

The Government of Rwanda is making steady progress in improving access to safe water and sanitation services. Initiatives to improve health, through the promotion of hand washing with soap, use of ECOSAN at schools as onsite sanitation and extending water supply in order to decrease prevalence and incidence of water-borne diseases, are also in place. However, 25% of the population is still unable to access a safe drinking water source, while 26% of the populations have no access to improved sanitation facilities. Rural areas are more affected. This problem refer to us as future civil engineer and in order to understand how solve it, in our modules content we have a special module concern this; called Water supply and sanitation. When we have completed this module we conduct a field trip and we make its report. This document concern a report of our field trip done on 4th April 2014 at G.S Kotana near Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) Rubona branch where we saw the use of ECOSAN latrine on this school , its description and use of fasces and urine from ECOSAN as fertilizer. This report cover also what we have seen at KADAHOKWA water treatment plant, it is from this plant where water used in HUYE town comes from, where we saw how water from KADAHOKWA River is treated by following steps: cascade aeration, coagulation addition, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, storage and pumping system.

Background Increasing access to water sanitation and promoting basic hygiene behaviours can reduce the burden of diarrheal diseases. Availability of clean water and soap enables and encourages people to wash their hands, and as a result, it reduces the likelihood of disease transmission. The study intended to assess the hygiene and sanitation practices in Southern Rwanda. Methods A mixed method with quantitative and qualitative approach was used. A random sample of 291 households was included in the study. Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and observations were used. The data was analysed using SPSS 21. Results The findings show that 88% of respondents had knowledge on best practices of hand washing with soap; 83.5% of the respondents own latrines, and 38% and 26% had the will to improve their toilets roof and slabs respectively. Forty-four per cent of respondents use boiling water methods and 55% do not treat water at all. Boiling water was regarded ...

Ecological sanitation, is an approach which is characterized by a desire to safely \"close the loop\" (mainly for the nutrients and organic matter) between sanitation and agriculture. Ecological sanitation systems aim at providing a hygienically closed loop system that is safe and economical. Human excreta is converted into nutrients and returned to the soil for agricultural purposes and water to land. Sustainable development goal number 6 focuses on the need to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of ecological sanitation toilets in Huye and Musanze districts, of Rwanda .This research was conducted to understand properly the challenges faced by the residents of the two districts. Out of the 400 residents with ecological sanitation toilets from the two districts, 150 were sampled randomly and questionnaires administered. 10 key informants were selected for an in-depth interview. During the study, respondents acknowledged that sanitation and hygiene was a key to human health. Despite the presence of the ecological sanitation toilets, some of the residents did not utilize them properly. This was evidenced by the presence of human excreta in and around the toilets, foul smell, and presence of big blue and green flies. In the study, culture and religion were some of the key factors that hindered the residents from properly utilization and sharing of ecological sanitation toilets. Lack of knowledge, poor attitude and large family sizes also largely contributed to improper utilization of ecological toilets. Intensive labor involved in emptying of the toilets was another challenge. The main challenge seen on terrain was cultural factors which were faecophilia and faecophobic continuum. Some of the responses were classifying all the human excreta as clean and clean meaning those who touches human excreta like feacal matter would be referred to as untouchable.. Government and senior officials and Policy makers are very crucial in the sanitation campaigns to bring all the projects to the owners. The research illustrates how government should address the sanitation concern. The study recommends intensive awareness campaigns and advocacy to remove negative attitudes towards ecological sanitation toilets; training in ecological sanitation toilets operation; regular reviews and check-ups by authorities.

The worldwide prevalence of waterborne diseases has been attributed to the lack of safe water, inadequate sanitation and hygiene. This study evaluated socio-demographic factors, microbiological quality of water at source and point of use (POU) at households, water handling and sanitation practices in a rural Rwandan community. Thirty five water samples from the source, Nyabarongo River, and water at point of use (POU) treated with the Slow Sand Filter (SSF) and Sûr'Eau methods, were analysed for total coliform and faecal coliform counts. Turbidity was measured in household samples. A structured questionnaire regarding water collection, storage, usage and waterborne disease awareness was administered to 324 women. Despite the significant reduction in coliforms and faecal coliforms from the Nyabarongo River following treatment using either SSF or Sûr'Eau, the water at point of use was found to be unsafe for human consumption. The frequency of diarrheal diseases were significan...

This study assessed the relationship between water production, distribution and its availability to consumers in Kigali city of Rwanda. The researcher applied the secondary data collected from the Water and Sanitation Authority (WASAC) Limited and Nzove Water treatment Plant. These data included water produced and distributed (supplied), and water received (consumed) by consumers. The results indicated that between 2014 and 2018, a total of 97,881,591 m 3 was supplied, 64,242,628 m 3 was billed (reached customers), which led to a loss of 33,638,963 m 3 . In addition, across six (6) branches fed by the Nzove WTP, 4,203 cases were recorded due to water inaccessibility, 5,339 cases resulted from water leakage and 7,146 cases were registered as request for information which also can be of water shortage. This was attributed to poor distribution system like old pipeline, damage of distribution system caused by ongoing construction and urbanization activities. Furthermore, the water loss ...

Old Belief emerged as a broad social and religious movement in the second half of the 17th century as a result of church reform. The Old Believers who did not adopt the reforms were forced to flee to the outer reaches of Russia and were persecuted by both the church and secular powers until the beginning of the 20th century. This contributed to a great extent to the development of eschatological opinions and the striving for social and general isolation. A distinctive feature of the Old Believers' culture is traditionalism, which is expressed in both everyday and religious practice. Old Belief, as a form of Christianity, is seen among most scholars and the general public as an exclusively Russian phenomenon. However, it was also quite widespread among a number of Finno-Ugric peoples; in the territory of the Ural and Volga region most of the non-Russian Old Believers were Mordovians or Komi-Permyaks. The main reasons for the process of transition from 'inorodtsy' ('infidels') to 'raskolniks' 1 ('schismatics') were the lack of social barriers (both were religious outsiders) and the conflict caused by the State's policy of violent Christianisation. There were many different nuances in this process related to the problem of language, the perception among Finno-Ugrians of the use of books, and the closed nature of the group. In this paper, I would like to describe this based on archival documents and my own field research.
