The Egyptian Museum is hard to miss on any tour of Cairo. Opening in 1902, it was purpose-built to house the antiquities of Ancient Egypt.

Luxor and Aswan Travel representative will pick you up from your hotel in Marsa Alam to transfer to Hurghada Airport (which is 282 km away) for flight to Cairo where you will be met and assisted by our representative. After that our Egyptologist guide will accompany you to discover the exquisite Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinus, the Sphinx with a head of a pharaoh and lion's body, which dates back to the reign of King Chephren, and the Valley Temple of the Pyramid of Chephren.

Proceed to have your lunch at local restaurant in Cairo. Then you will move on to the Egyptian Museum which features artifacts from the Pharaonic period. The museum displays a rare collection of 5000 years of art which is considered the largest most precious collection of Egyptian art in the world. Over 250,000 genuine artifacts are presented, including an exhibit dedicated to Tutankhamen collection of treasure, gold and jewelry which was enclosed in his tomb for over 3,500 years before it was discovered in the 1920s when his tomb was excavated. Continue driving to Islamic Cairo, where you will be able to explore Khan El Khalili, Cairo’s old bazaar. In the evening you will be driven to Cairo Airport for flight to Hurghada. The buffet food is ok if you are locals, and the waiter thought it was funny to constantly speak to our group in a high pitched Minnie Mouse voice like we were 5 year olds… very annoying! This boat is old and tired and needs a revamp plus the male reception staff give zero care factor of dealing with requests from women … had to ask 3 times before any of them to sort my requests … felt like we were annoying them … terrible service which we had to pay big tips! Our representative Mirna at Sheba Tours was very communicative and made sure to text us in the morning and in the evening to confirm the schedule and to make sure that everything was going as planned. She went out of her way to address the few issues we encountered. She deserves 5 stars out of 5. The cruise itself was lovely and relaxing. The ship (“Victoria” aka “Ra I”) looks a bit outdated, but the crew members were nice (though they mostly spoke little English), the food was good, and the cabin pretty comfortable. WiFi was a major issue, as it was not working most of the times and it was unreliable when it was indeed “working.” So bring a book or two to enjoy on the sun deck while taking in the breathtaking sunsets. I can’t rate it 5 stars because of the tours that were included in the package, with some of them requiring an early wake up call just to be done by lunchtime and without anything else to do for the rest of the day. But the worst part were the tour guides… a literal torture (we had 4 of them over 8 days). None of them spoke good English, they mostly gave us basic information, they were very pushy in regard to reviews and tips, and some of them were shady about money (one kept asking us to give him cash so we could skip the line… no one was in line to buy tickets). And the tour of Abu Simbel was shameful: 4 hours to get there, 4 hours to get back… and only 20 minutes inside the most beautiful of all Egyptian temples. Make sure to communicate with the agency so they can accommodate your interests. Maybe we were just unlucky, but the selection of the guides needs some improvement. The drive there was an interesting insight through the desert and small farms closer to Luxor. Mimo,our tour guide was excellent. His insights into all of the temples that we visited were explained very clearly. We could not have asked for a better tour guide. 100%. It was a long day with lots of information taken in,so be sure to bring plenty of extra snacks and water. Be prepared for the constant hustle from locals along the way. We came into Luxor on a late flight that got delayed by an hour. Lucas met us with a smile and joyful personality during the ride he explained a little bit about Luxor which was very helpful. One thing to be aware of in Luxor airport is once you come out of the airport people will try to grab your bag to assist you to your ride. Just be aware they want a tip and are not doing it for free. We didn't like that he sometimes was inpatient and was calling our hotel room even though we asked not to. We didn’t like that they asked us to pay the extra tours with dollars and when we said that we didn’t had us dollars, they did a ridiculous exchange rate to egp. We were able to negotiate the price but it was still high the conversion rate. We are in egypt, they shouldn’t expect for use to carry dollars or they could have told us before the travel. This time April of this year, I went with Nile King Tours. I told them what I wanted and they sorted everything out for me. I was met at Luxor Airport by the tour guide Gad. He was a very nice man and his knowledge of Egypt was amazing. On the first day of the visit, I met some other people. Now we're a party of ten. Gad took us to visit places like. Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings and Edfu Temple and that's only some of the places I visited. As I said, Gads knowledge was amazing. His English was also quite good and he explained things to make it easy to understand. He was always very professional at all times, and he spoke passionately about his work. Is it allowed to enter The Pyramids in Egypt?

Tourists are allowed to enter all three of the great pyramids, for a fee, of course. That is, you can go into the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure as long as you pay for a ticket. That’s the good news.

The bad news starts with the mundane issues of how hard it can be to get inside. You must first pay for a ticket (around $20) for general admission to the grounds, then for an additional ticket for each pyramid, between about $5 and $15. The total amounts up fast, especially if you’re traveling with your family.

Second, ticket sales are not a smooth procedure. Changes occur in the process regularly, and you can never be sure of exactly what to expect. First, there’s often, but not always, a limit imposed on ticket sales for the smaller pyramids, those of Khufu and Khafre. This is usually 300 tickets per pyramid per day, but only 150 are offered in the morning, the rest are saved until the afternoon. People get annoyed and impatient and you may run into pushing and shoving.

In my opinion, Cairo is much more worth it than Sharm . Even if it doesn’t turn out to be your favorite place, take it as an authentic experience (unlike Sharm ). You certainly will get some hassle, but don’t take it as harassment, it’s just people trying to make a living and not meant as aggression.

In the case of alarm signals, the police do not issue a permit. It's only happened a handful of times so far, and each time it's been weather related.

Do we visit the old or the new museum during the tour?

The program of the tour still includes the old museum in Tahrir Square, where there are m.in. treasures from Tutankhamun's tomb, including a golden mask. The new museum is still unavailable to organized groups.
