I booked a tour for four people "Downton Abbey and small village tour from London on a mini coach" via Viator. I only write Yelp reviews; however it was suggested I post either on Viator or Google. Sorry. The tour was last Sunday. It left promptly from the meeting place by Gloucester tube station at 9:30am . The biggest change was the size of the motor coach. It held 48 of us It was fine as there were two local tour guides - Richard and Jett. Both were knowledgeable and did their best to keep the tour interesting. Richard actually worked on the Downton Abbey set. The small village was Bampton located in Oxfordshire. We spent about an hour there. First half was a guided tour with free time to wander. Half the group went with Richard and the other half went with Jett. Then off to Highclere Castle. Our tour included admission to the castle. Total time spent here was three hours. It's a self guided tour. Make sure you allow time for a scone at Highclere. There's also high tea but hard to fit that into a tight organized tour. We got back to London around 6pm. Highly recommended tour.

I did the Harry Potter walking tour with Ben. What a fabulous time! He was so knowledgeable about the area we were walking, as well as Harry Potter. He engaged nicely with the crowd too. I would definitely do another tour with him. The only downside (more directed to the tour company) was that it was extremely difficult finding the walking tour meeting point.

Val was our tour guide and she was EXCELLENT! We have been on a number of tours, in various countries, and Val was one of the best tour guides we've had! She was extremely professional, very knowledgeable about all the locations and information about all the HP movies. She was always keeping an eye on everyone's safety with a genuine caring and positive attitude throughout the tour....despite being the hottest day on record (40.3 C or 104.5 F)! The price is very reasonable for this level of quality touring, so feel free to tip her a few pounds if you book a tour and agree.  Thanks for a great experience Val!

This review is about the Harry Potter Walking Tour of London, one of the walking tours, not the bus tour. Owen was our guide on a very hot, sunny Saturday afternoon. The start point was at Westminster Station, where one of the scenes from Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix was filmed, where Mr Weasley is struggling to use the ticket barriers while on his way to the Ministry of Magic. Owen was very knowledgeable, giving you lots of insights and interesting titbits. He tried to involve the attendees but the group of families and young children, of around 20 were mostly tourists, were quite a quiet group, so I think Owen struggled a bit! The only drawback was that you went to a few locations where Owen would hold up a photo of a building where the shot was filmed and then you moved on. We then jumped on the tube to relocate to another location, although a welcome rest from being on our feet, and where again you are shown another photo of when that appeared in the film. Only once we were able to recreate a scene by taking a photo at that spot, but mostly there was a lot of walking, although you did see a lot of the city, around Westminster, St Paul's, Millennium Bridge, London Bridge, Monument, and Leadenhall Market, so quite a good sightseeing tour for tourists! We went to the location where the Ministry of Magic was filmed, and heard how props were made or put there to make the scenes, and they were not done by CGI. So if you were expecting to see a Gentlemen's toilet entrance near the Ministry building, you would not find it there as the sign was put there for the scene, to make it look like there was one, which is cheaper than to build an actual toilet. Likewise, the doors and the phone box were props put there. Owen also gave us other interesting facts about how colours are used in films. When we reached St Paul's, from afar, Owen gave us some interesting insight and also that the floating stairs were located inside. Also Owen mentions the phoenix sculpture on the facade of St Paul's with the motto "Resurgam" meaning "I shall rise again". The Phoenix rising was also used in the Harry Potter books. The site where the Leaky Cauldron was located was a bit disappointing, as you have had to imagine being in that building looking out of the windows over the roof tops as Harry did. We did learn that there was not much continuity of scenes, and Owen pointed these out. He also told us Charing Cross Road as in the films was not actually filmed at Charing Cross Road, as it being such a busy road, it would be a nightmare to close off for the film shoots. I found the walking was a good pace to give you time to take photos, along the way, of the London sights, which the tourists amongst us were doing. I spoke to some of the tourists and Harry Potter fans along the way, and afterwards, and they did really enjoy it and they said they saw parts of London, which they probably would have not have seen on their own, and found the tour very interesting. Owen was also extremely helpful if anyone needed directions to get to King's Cross for Platform 9 and 3/4 (which was not included in the tour), or anywhere anyone needed to get to after the tour. I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes and take some water and fruit to snack on, especially on a hot day, as there is no stops for refreshments. It was an enjoyable afternoon, and the two and a bit hours, went by very quickly! As a Harry Potter tour for me, it was lacking, but combined with the sights of London, it was brilliant. Owen also gave us information and interesting facts too about various landmarks that we passed along the way. Also the highlight for me was the very interesting and little known fact, given by Owen not to look up but to look down on the Millennium Bridge! Chewing gum art, minute pieces of art painted on chewing gum, that all contains a message and meaning. Amazingly 400 of them! That will be an adventure for another day, a mini gum art trail! Fascinating.

Expelliarmus! Little joke amongst the various Harry Potter tour guides (silly but fun to watch in action ) You ll understand once you do the tour! Quite an interesting tour, while none of the locations were news to me it was still interesting to learn more about the history of the buildings, the tricks/effects used by the studios to make the scenes/areas look a certain way. Definitely a must do to add to your Harry Potter knowledge especially if you are not a Londoner ‍

brit movie tours london

I would consider myself a Harry Potter fan having read all the books and watched all the movies. However, I watched most of the movies before I moved to London so some of the locations were news to me. I didn't know that Diagon Alley was Leadenhall Market for example. I thought that everything was recreated in the studio as I had been to the WB studio tour and there was a Diagon Alley there. It was also interesting to have some background of how certain scenes were shot or modified for the movie. If you're a Harry Potter fan, please add it on the list of things to do. There is a lot of walking outdoors so preferably do it on a sunny day (if you can).

We just finished the Harry Potter walking tour this afternoon. It was a fun tour despite the nasty weather in London. The tour guide Phil was very friendly and knowledgeable. My kids and my husband who are big fans of the movies thought the tour was cool and informative. It made them want to rewatch the movies and catch those scenes! At the end, Phil offered tips and asked us if we needed any directions to other places. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you Phil!

My mom and I did both Harry Potter tours; the London and the Oxford/Lacock tour. Yes, the London locations could be done on your own but frankly, taking the Tube all over town every single day for a week was already exhausting and the allure of a big motor coach was very strong. We weren't disappointed at all. Our tour guide, Rosie, was our guide for both tours. She was phenomenal. Very informative, very helpful, very very funny. The first tour of Oxford and Lacock took us to Godric's Hollow, Slughorn's house, and a number of various filming locations and inspirations for Hogwarts. If you want to see the school, take this tour. It's the best tour there for your money as most of the other private tours are more than double the price at least. Plus, it helps to have a guide who can check when everything opens and closes so you don't waste your time getting there only to find you can't get in. Lacock was an adorable village that looks like it's straight out of a novel. Oxford was gorgeous and it was really interesting to take in the history there (Harry Potter aside). This tour was pretty much an all day tour and it was definitely worth it. It would probably be quite difficult navigating Oxford on your own as well so having Rosie there to show us around was perfect. The London tour was a bit busier with a lot more children. Once again, Rosie made it a great time for everyone. She even had "scripts" so the little kids could act out their favourite scenes at the "Leaky Cauldron". While the addresses for some locations are readily available, honestly, some of the places are so obscure that you would walk right past them without a helpful guide to point them out. Most of the locations were digitally altered a lot so you probably wouldn't know what they were. It was a bit crazy the day of our tour since it was also Remembrance Day and the streets of London were a bit crazier than usual. Even so, it was a fabulous weekend and exactly what we hoped it would be. Thank you so much to Rosie for giving me and my mother such a memorable weekend.

This review is only regarding the Harry Potter tour this company offers. It isn't that great. They walk you around places in London where the movies filmed random scenes and will show you still photos from the movie as proof. Honestly, none of it was that impressive. The majority of the scenes were forgettable moments from the movie and the background was even less memorable. The most interesting thing they show you is where the train platform is, but you could look that up and find it on your own. It isn't even that impressive in person. They just put up some brick wall paper and half a shopping cart onto the wall. The problem is that most of the big scenes for the movie weren't shot in London which makes sense when you think about it. How difficult would it be to shoot a major motion picture in London? I can barely walk around this town, it's so crowded. How much worse would it be to get a gigantic movie crew in here?

I went on a Brit Movie Tours' coach tour of the doctor who filming locations in Cardiff, Wales. It was a good length (three hours) and we got on and off the bus to explore different locations like Cara Oswald's house and areas where the Doctor had his adventures. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who loves doctor who as much as I do. It is right near the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff (5 minute walk) so you can kill two birds with one stone and go to both. Enjoy!
