Juvenile Announces 2024 Tour Celebrating 25th Anniversary of “Back That Azz Up”

The post Juvenile Announces 2024 Tour Celebrating 25th Anniversary of “Back That Azz Up” appeared first on Consequence .

June 11th, 2024, marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Juvenile ’s seminal song, “Back That Azz Up,” and to celebrate the occasion, he’s announced a massive North American tour. Additionally, the city of New Orleans has declared June 11th, 2024, “Back That Azz Up Day.”

Kicking off on July 7th in New Orleans, the “Back That Azz Up 25th Anniversary Tour” will take Juvenile all across the country, making stops in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and many more cities. The shows will run through the end of December, ending with a final performance in New Orleans on New Year’s Eve. Check out the full list of dates below.

A ticket pre-sale for the “Back That Azz Up 25th Anniversary Tour” is now ongoing via Ticketmaster (use code CHORD ). A general on-sale will then open on June 15th at 10:00 a.m. local time, after which fans can look for deals or grab tickets to sold-out shows via StubHub , where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program.

“I am beyond excited to celebrate 25 years of ‘Back That Azz Up’ with my fans,” Juvenile said in a statement. “This song has been a huge part of my musical journey, and it’s amazing to see it still resonate with people today and I can’t wait for the moment each night of the tour when the song drops.”

Continuing, Juvenile expressed his appreciation for his fans even further. “One thing about me that’s different from other artists is that I really do listen to my fans,” he said. “And my fans turn out to really know what’s best for me. They are the ones who made me do Tiny Desk. I hadn’t even heard of NPR to be honest. Then they took to the internet and demanded shows in their cities with the band. God is great and my fans sold all of those shows out. That’s why we are going on tour of the rest of the country.”

As for the city of New Orleans’ declaration, Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued a proclamation praising how it has “transcended its roots to become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for its infectious beat and memorable lyrics that continue to resonate with generations.”

Juvenile Announces 'Back That Azz Up 25th Anniversary Tour'

Juvenile is celebrating the milestone anniversary of his smash hit by announcing a brand new tour.

On Tuesday, June 11, the Louisiana native announced the dates for his "Back That Azz Up 25th Anniversary Tour." The tour will kick off July 7 at the Donna Color Explosion event following the Cash Money Reunion at Essence Fest in New Orleans . From there, Juvie and his 400 Degreez Band will travel to over 60 cities around the U.S. including some areas that have yet to be announced. His tour will wrap up in his hometown on New Year's Eve.

Juvenile teased the tour for the first time in a video he posted to his Instagram timeline. In honor of the hit record's 25th anniversary, Mayor LaToya Cantrell officially named June 11 "Back That Azz Up Day" in the city of New Orleans. Juvie announced the plans for the tour in his caption.

"Happy Back That Azz Up Day !!! Say it back or better yet back it up as your civic duty !!" he wrote. "Celebrating with a Back That Azz Up 25th anniversary tour starting with Donna Color Explosion on 7/7 touring entire USA & Canada ending at Saenger on 12/31."

The tour was announced on the 25th anniversary of his song "Back That Azz Up" featuring Lil Wayne and Mannie Fresh . The song brought New Orleans' bounce scene to mainstream audiences after it dropped as the second single off his third studio album 400 Degreez in 1998. It became Juvenile's biggest hit until he released "Slow Motion" in 2004.

Tickets for the tour are set to go on sale this Friday, June 14 at 10 a.m. Check out the full list of dates and watch a breakdown of how the song was made via Genius below.

Juvenile Teases Massive 25th Anniversary Tour: 'Going To Damn Near Every State'

Juvenile has announced plans for a massive tour to celebrate 25 years of his hit single “Back That Azz Up.”

The former Cash Money rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (May 30) to share the news, revealing he’ll be hitting over 60 cities across North America.

“The results are in!!! Over 60 cities in U.S. & Canada are getting dates for my 25th Anniversary of Back That Azz Up Tour!!!” he wrote.

“Going to damn near every state in the country too. Thank you to my fans. We doing this together to represent for the 99-2000s.”

The Hot Boys star previously confirmed several tour dates and also hinted at an appearance from Mannie Fresh .

“Oklahoma City, St Louis, NYC, DC, Columbia SC, Birmingham, Memphis, Houston, Chicago, Las Vegas … do yall want me to add my producer the legendary @manniefresh to the shows so we do it just like tiny desk but better?? RT if so,” he tweeted earlier this week.

A full itinerary has yet to be announced.

The tour will continue Juvenile’s 25th anniversary celebrations of his classic debut album 400 Degreez.

Back in March, he released a long-overdue music video for the project’s title track.

The Diesel Filmz-directed clip opens with a message that reads: “On November 3, 1998 Juvenile released his 3rd album album  400 Degreez . The album went on to be certified 4x platinum having sold over 4 million copies.

“This ground breaking album remains Juvenile’s best-selling project of his solo career. This visual is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of this monumental achievement.”

From there, the New Orleans rap legend can be seen linking up with Mannie Fresh — who produced the entirety of  400 Degreez  — while two video vixens whip up a birthday cake for the album.

Throwback footage from the  400 Degreez  era is also peppered throughout the clip, along with more recent shots of Juvie and Mannie performing on stage.

Addressing fans on Instagram Live earlier this month, he confirmed that they would be performing with Birdman at Essence Fest in July as part of the Cash Money mogul’s 30th anniversary set .

Juve also revealed that a new Hot Boys album is in the works .

“Hot Boys is back together, man,” he said. “Turk gonna be with me tonight, I’m gonna be with B.G. next week. Me, Wayne, Turk and B.G., all of us gonna be on stage in New Orleans with Mannie Fresh and Birdman. And we already started working on the Hot Boys album.”

Terius Gray is better known by his stage name, Juvenile, and is an American hip-hop rapper from New Orleans, Lousiana.

Born on 25 March 1975, Juvenile first started rapping in the early 1990s. After signing with Warlock records in 1995, he released his debut album entitled “Being Myself.” Unfortunately, the album did not gain much national attention and did not chart, but did fairly well on a local level. However, it did bring more attention to labels, and as a result, Juvenile signed to Cash Money Records and released “Solja Rags” in 1997. Although the album saw some national success having made it onto the Billboard Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Songs Chart, it saw most of its success with local rap audiences. Also in 1997, Juvenile joined the Hot Boys with fellow Cash Money rappers B.G., Turk, and Lil Wayne and together they released their debut album “Get It How U Live!”

Juvenile released his third solo album entitled “400 Degreez” in 1998 and it became his breakout album, having had the opportunity for a bigger market due to Cash Money Records gaining a joint distribution with Universal Records. Keeping up with the success of “400 Degreez,” he released “Tha G-Code” in 1999 and “Project English “ in 2001, both of which ended up becoming double certified platinum.

In 2005 Juvenile signed a new deal with Atlantic Records and released “Reality Check” in 2006. The album, which had debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, went on to become certified gold. By 2012 Juvenile released his tenth album, “Rejuvenation” which featured the single "Power" featuring Rick Ross. Juvenile collaborated with Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, and Drake.

Live reviews

I was head bumping in my baby crib, listening to Juvenile now i'm body popping to Juvenile 15+ years later! Good music is timeless and with Juvenile never has a statement held so much truth. Terius Grey also known as Juvenile is perhaps one of the most underrated rappers, but with performances like this! that's soon to change. The 'back that ass up' rapper, inspires such wildness within the audience, Rock has mosh pits, rap has crumping and that was the result when he performed his 2014 song 'Live Wire'. As the familiar Southern beat dropped, people were shaking so much I thought their souls were gonna leave their bodies there and then! This energy is hard to come by from a single song and when 'Back That Ass Up' came on, left right and center all I could see for miles on end was twerking, trying to keep up with such motion resulted in nothing less than your head bobbling up and down like the dog from the Churchill adverts Juveniles hype man prepared the audience, as if a scene out of a movie were being filmed, warming up the crowd and competing with the screaming girls as Juvenile strolled on with a bottle of alcohol that looked like it cost more than my entire existence, and that is what people love about Juvenile, he's just so calm, cool and relaxed. Even if you're not a fan, attend one of his performances, within twenty seconds of the first song, your opinion will change! If not then I PERSONALLY will teach you how to twerk.

Rapper/songwriter Terius Gray, aka Juvenile has been recording raps since the age of 19, and released his debut album way back in 1995. I’ve been following his music ever since, and hearing the maturing process and the music progress over the years has been wonderful. He encountered troubles in early 2000s where he had several run-ins with the law which unfortunately have continued over the last decade, but he has luckily ben able to keep producing his fantastic music regardless.

Hearing him perform live was incredible. He opened the show with Back that Thang Up, which everyone knew and was singing along to. He came down off of the stage and started dancing with everyone, Although the bouncers made sure we couldn’t get too close, it was great that he was actually interested in being down in the audience with his fans. He played through his new album The Fundamentals, and absolutely smashes it. He taught us as the audience little sections of the rap and got up to sing back to him, which was really cool. The show was nearly 2 hours long, and he maintained his energy and enthusiasm throughout which was great. He put on a wonderful performance I’d definitely watch again.

It is pretty impressive to now reflect that Louisiana rapper Juvenile, real name Terius Gray released his debut album 'Being Myself' at the age of 19. The record was a major release on the hip-hop scene of the 90's and although his commerciality has faded in recent years, the demand for his live show is ever present. The crowd's cheers are deafening before the rapper makes his appearance with hands raised clapping to the reaction.

Beginning with a huge blast from the past, the heavy baseline of '400 Degreez' gets the crowd moving instantly and jumping on that recognisable chorus. He runs through a selection of what he considers his best material and majority is well known from the crowd, especially the couple of tracks lifted from his only Billboard #1 'Reality Check'. It is the older material that goes over best, tracks such as 'U Understand' bringing the whole room together in mass singalong during the recognisable chorus. It is of course 'Back That Azz Up' that is saved for an encore in order to really push energy levels to new highs and end on a dose of 90's nostalgia.

Though Juvenile wasn't the headliner for this particular show, I've seen him as headliner before. His energy is always great, he keeps the crowd engaged and having fun, and he's on time. He does just enough to make it feel like a live show (vs listening to his hits on the radio), without it feeling too overdone. Awesome show!

Horrible show. Juvenile didn't show up and canceled last minute. No refunds or alternate dates offered or proposed. Security actually started to cwork me by and throw everyone out and told us to take it up with the venue.

Huge disappointment by an artist who is becoming less and less relevant.

Juvenile never showed up. Mannie Fresh was there for like an hr, he did a great set but over disappointing. Great venue, great crowd but definitely not worth what I spent for the artist I wanted to see not to show up.

New Orleans rapper Juvenile will perform with a live band on tour making stops in Charlotte and Asheville this year

June 11, 2024

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of his hit song, “Back That Azz Up,” from his breakthrough 1998 album, 400 Degreez , Juvenile has announced an extensive North American tour with a full live band. Following the proclamation of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell declaring June 11 as Back That Azz Up Day, Juvie has announced several tour dates that will span from July to December, making stops in Asheville (August 31 at Rabbit Rabbit) and Charlotte (November 22 at The Fillmore).

Growing up in the Magnolia Projects of New Orleans, Juvenile’s career took off with Cash Money Records in the late ’90s with the success of the rap group The Hot Boys, and his third studio album, 400 Degreez , featuring the hit singles “Ha” and “Back That Azz Up.” He followed up with Tha G-Code in 1999, with the tracks “U Understand” and “I Got That Fire,” and his most recent platinum-selling album, Juve the Great, in 2003 , which features the chart-topping single, “Slow Motion,” with Soulja Slim.

In 2023, Juvenile performed for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert with longtime producer Mannie Fresh and New Orleans musicians Jon Batiste, Trombone Shorty, and Alvin Ford Jr. This will mark the first national tour for Juvenile with his 400 Degreez Band.

Proclamation Excerpt:

“WHEREAS, the City of New Orleans proudly recognizes the 25th anniversary of the iconic music video ‘Back That Azz Up’ by our very own Juvenile, which was released in 1999 and has since become a defining anthem worldwide and our city’s vibrant musical heritage; and

WHEREAS, ‘Back That Azz Up,’ produced by the legendary Mannie Fresh and featuring the esteemed Lil Wayne, has transcended its roots to become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for its infectious beat and memorable lyrics that continue to resonate with generations; and

WHEREAS, this legendary song has remarkably become the most played wedding song in America, uniting people across the nation in joy and celebration, and exemplifying the unifying power of music. Over one billion people have been ‘backing it up’ since the 99s and the 2000s; and

WHEREAS, to commemorate this milestone and the enduring legacy of ‘Back That Azz Up,’ Juvenile is launching a nationwide tour, to celebrate 25 years of this groundbreaking music video and its impact on music and culture; and

WHEREAS, the City of New Orleans wishes to honor this historic occasion and the contributions of Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, and Lil Wayne to the music industry and our community.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, LaToya Cantrell, Mayor of New Orleans, do hereby proclaim June 11, 2024, as ‘Back That Azz Up Day’ in the City of New Orleans, in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the music video, and urge all citizens to join in the celebration of this monumental achievement and the artists who have made a lasting impact on our city’s musical legacy.”

Juvenile’s Statement:  “I am beyond excited to celebrate 25 years of ‘Back That Azz Up’ with my fans. This song has been a huge part of my musical journey, and it’s amazing to see it still resonate with people today and I can’t wait for the moment each night of the tour when the song drops.

“One thing about me that’s different from other artists is that I really do listen to my fans. And my fans turn out to really know what’s best for me. They are the ones who made me do Tiny Desk. I hadn’t even heard of NPR to be honest. Then they took to the internet and demanded shows in their cities with the band. God is great and my fans sold all of those shows out. That’s why we are going on tour of the rest of the country.

“The other thing I will say is that at this point in my career I realized I really like this live band stuff. I don’t think you’ll ever catch me without my band again I just love it that much. It’s something about it that I’ll never go back to before. And the fans really seem to appreciate that I actually sound like the records singing live with my 400 Degreez Band.”

The last two years have been quite eventful for rapper Juvenile. Click inside to find out the latest milestone he just reached and to see how he’s celebrating it.

Last year Juvenile, whose real name is Terius Gray, made his way back into the public eye in a major way. First, he teamed up with  Urban South Brewery , the largest craft brewery in New Orleans and one of the leading breweries in the South. The two collaborated to create a delicious new beverage: Juvie Juice, a hard version of a half lemonade, half iced tea.

Juvenile Releases “400 Degreez” Music Video 25 Years Later

After gaining momentum from the release of his new drink, fans began to realize how much they loved his music and missed seeing him. This led to a fan requesting that the legendary New Orleans rapper grace NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series to perform his hits. After a bit of hesitancy and having to be told what a Tiny Desk was, Juvie issued a challenge to his fans. He told them that if his tweet got 10,000 retweets, he would consider it. Ironically enough, it took less than 24 hours for him to get what he asked for. The now 49 year-old rocked his 23-minute set, performing special renditions of ten of the biggest songs in his catalog including “Slow Motion,” “Set It Off” and “Rodeo.”

In March, Juvenile once again surprised fans by releasing the music video for “400 Degreez,” the title track from his magnum opus/third album. The video release came 25 years after the release of the album, which made the moment so much more special. This week (June 11th), arguably the biggest song of Juvenile’s career (which was also on  400 Degrees ) was also celebrated. New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell proclaimed June 11th as “Back That Azz Up Day” in the city.

Juvenile decided that the best way to celebrate the milestone was by announcing a brand new tour. The “Back That Azz Up 25th Annicersary Tour” will begin July 7th at the Donna Color Explosion event following the Cash Money Reunion at Essence Fest in New Orleans. Following that, Juvie and the 400 Degreez Band will hit over 60 cities in the U.S. before ending in his hometown on New Years Eve. Tickets for the tour are set to go on sale this Friday, June 14 at 10 a.m. Check out the full list of dates and purchase tickets at juvenileofficial.com/tour .

Congrats to Juvenile on the 25th anniversary of ‘Back That Azz Up,’ its’ new holiday in New Orleans and the ensuing tour! Let us know your favorite songs off of the legendary 400 Degrees  album and if you plan on pulling up to any of the tour dates!

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

juvenile tours

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

juvenile tours

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

juvenile tours

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

juvenile tours

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
