Dan Sultan Announces East Coast Tour Dates, Shares New Single ‘Ringing In My Ears’

Dan Sultan will head up the east coast in September and October, playing three dates in support of his highly anticipated new self-titled album, which is due to arrive on Friday, 18th August. The singer will start off the tour at the Princess Theatre in Brisbane on Saturday, 30th September, with a show to follow in Sydney and finally in Melbourne Saturday, 21st October. He’ll be supported at all dates by soul singer WILSN .

Sultan has also released another track from his upcoming album – it’s called ‘Ringing In My Ears’, and it began life in the hinterland of Northern NSW. Listen to to it below.

Dan Sultan: ‘Ringing In My Ears’

“’Ringing In My Ears’ is a power-song that began while driving through the hinterland of Northern NSW while listening to Father John Misty’s album Fear Fun ,’ Sultan remembers. “It’s about being in a beautiful place in life and enjoying the moments as they come and inevitably pass. It’s a lot of fun to play live and I love seeing the response from the audience. It’s really exciting.”

We’ve heard a number of songs from the record so far, including ‘ Wait In Love ‘, ‘Story’, and ‘ Won’t Give You That’ .

“Until now I’ve shied away from having a photo of my face on any artwork and I’ve now gone completely the other way with this record,” Sultan has said of the new album. “It’s symbolic of just how raw and straight the work is in content albeit extremely polished from a production and writing standpoint.”

“I’ve never been as good as I’ve been while writing and making this record. I’m very proud of my record and I know that I’ve made a beautiful thing that represents myself in all ways. It has fulfilled me and I’m happier and stronger in my work than I’ve ever been. It’s a wonderful thing to feel so peaceful and powerful within my artistry and it’s holistically permeated into every aspect of my life.”

Sultan will also be appearing at the Queenscliff Music Festival in November .

Join Dan Sultan and special guest WILSN in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this September/October.

One of Australia’s most gifted vocalists, Dan Sultan , will embark on an east coast headline tour in September and October, playing in grand halls to celebrate his self-titled fifth album.

As well as announcing the tour, Sultan has unveiled the new music video for Ringing In My Ears today . The latest taste of his new album is bright and joyous, an anthem built for going on drives with friends while Father John Misty blares from the car speaker.

“ Ringing In My Ears is a power song that began while driving through the hinterland of Northern NSW while listening to Father John Misty’s album Fear Fun ,” Sultan said about the song, co-produced alongside friend and collaborator Joel Quartermain .

“It’s about being in a beautiful place in life and enjoying the moments as they come and inevitably pass. It’s a lot of fun to play live, and I love seeing the response from the audience. It’s really exciting.” You can check out the music video below.

A grand take on a classic song essential to Australia’s music history, Sultan starts the song in his most tender, vulnerable register before stretching to some excellent chest singing. Accompanied by a piano and, later, percussion, Sultan has nowhere to hide. It’s a rich, exposed performance that we’re lucky to hear. You can listen here.

“ Took The Children Away is, to me, the perfect song,” Sultan explained in a press release. “Wonderful melodies with strong and powerful chord progressions, and the lyrics are perfect storytelling. And above all else, it means so much. 

“Whether a song really means something is, in my opinion, what makes it great or not, and this work is what I see as the pinnacle of Artistic Endeavour. I love this song for all those reasons, and I’m honoured to know it and to perform it.”

Dan Sultan has lined up three tour dates in theatres along Australia's East Coast in support of his new self-titled album. 

We've heard a few cuts from  Dan Sultan  but on the latest, he's got Father John Misty ringing in his ears...

You'll get the chance yourself when the ARIA and NIMAs winning singer-songwriter hits the road later this year, playing Brisbane in September, then Sydney and Melbourne in October with support from modern soul sensation  WILSN . View the full dates further below.

Brimming with optimism, 'Ringing In My Ears' was written in collaboration with Chris Collins and co-produced with close friend Joel Quartermain (of Eskimo Joe fame ) who also worked with Sultan on the surging 'Won't Give You That' (which we recently named Best New Music ).

Both tracks will feature on  Dan Sultan  alongside 'Story' - a deeply personal song inspired by a racist incident in the songwriter's youth, as he expanded on in a recent TED Talk. 

If what we've heard so far is any indication, Sultan's fifth full-length album will see him charting a wealth of emotions and his own personal journey, marked by serious challenges and hard reflection.

But the result is songs that sound more resilient than ever . And we'll get to hear all of them when  Dan Sultan  is out 18 August.

Shortly after the release of his long-awaited fifth studio album Dan Sultan , and his upcoming tour of North America with Vance Joy, Sultan is bringing a brand-new band and production to Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. Sultan will be performing songs from the new album as well as some older favourites.

Dan Sultan is undeniably one of Australia’s most loved singer-songwriters and boasts numerous accolades to his name, including six ARIA Awards, NIMA Awards, top five ARIA -charting albums, and an ARIA -certified gold record in Blackbird. Previous albums have seen Sultan navigate the country several times playing headline shows to sold-out crowds, as well as supporting the likes of Bruce Springsteen, and as a guest on some of Australia’s biggest festivals, including Splendour in the Grass, Blues Festival and Falls Festival, to name a few.

Please note, due to scheduling conflicts Dan Sultan’s concert in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall has been rescheduled from Saturday 21 October to Friday 20 October. We are currently in the process of notifying ticket holders.

Australian alternative musician Dan Sultan shares his fifth studio album, Dan Sultan via Liberation Records.

Following the album's release, Dan will support Vance Joy across the US and Canada (including performances at iconic venues Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Central Park and The Ryman). He'll then return to Australia for dates in September and October. See below for the full list of dates.
