IRONS IN THE ROOM

Cool Cruiser

I know this has probably been asked before. Did a quick search. Couldn’t find what I was looking for. I think I’ve read before Celebrity doesn’t have laundry rooms for everyone’s use. Do they have irons in the rooms.

Thanks in advance

And don't even think of bringing your own.  You will be sent to the 'naughty room' and will be able to pick it up when you leave the ship.  There were 2 tables full of confiscated items on our last cruise.

ShawninFL

As they have said above, no irons.  You'll have to use laundry service on the ship if you need something pressed.

5,000+ Club

The ship has a laundry, pressing, and dry cleaning service, all for a fee. Try to avoid bringing anything that wrinkles easily. Hanging the article in the bathroom and allowing it to "steam" while having a hot shower can help shake some of the wrinkles out, but it won't help with creases. I also bring a bottle of Wrinkle Release with me.

Thankfully, NO.

If they had an iron in my room, I might feel obligated to use it, and ironing is something  I have absolutely no desire to waste any of my precious, limited cruise vacation time doing. 😁

absolutely positively NO

Host Anne

Fire is one of the biggest safety concerns on a cruise ship.  Therefore, irons and steamers are strictly forbidden.

Nang

On an Aussie Facebook Page for Celebrity it has been stated that steamers that have no metal plate are allowed. Can anybody confirm or refute this from direct experience (rather than what they believe/have been told by others)? TIA.

bEwAbG

Steamers are on the list of banned items, which means they may be confiscated.  A Facebook post isn't going to override that.  There's always a table full of such items removed from luggage for people to pick up at the port exit.

Certain items that generate heat or produce an open flame are not permitted on ship. This includes clothing irons, hotplates, steamers, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. Curling irons and hair dryers are allowed.

Things to try. Ship pressing service,

Downy Wrinkle Release spray or make your own with water and a little liquid fabric softener in a bottle with a fine spray,

Bring a fine spray  bottle and use water to mist the wrinkle and then zap it with your hairdryer on high heat, ( best for cotton type fabrics),

Hang wrinkled clothes in the closed bathroom and turn on the shower on hottest setting with shower door open and let the shower steam remove the wrinkles,

Some cuffs, sleeves and collars might be able to be ironed with a hair straightener.

Pack clothes in dry cleaner plastic for fewer wrinkles.

Pick cruise clothes that don’t wrinkle easily ex. DH brings his wrinkle free no iron khakis from Brooks Bros.

cruisestitch

the security screeners follow the instructions celebrity gives them.  Until Celebrity changes those instructions no Facebook post will matter.

we're just planning on wearing wrinkled clothes!

(actually for HIS shirts, we'll iron them in the pre-cruise hotel and then walk them onto the ship in a suit carrier, they will get a bit creased by the Uk-USA flight beforehand.

evandbob

Another way to avoid wrinkling clothes is not to pack your luggage days before the cruise.  The shorter time spent cramped in a bag, the less wrinkles - simple.

On a cruise I don't cook, clean dishes, make the bed or do laundry - it's my vacation time!

We walk around in wrinkled clothes, this is so the dear MiL doesn't stand out. 😇

Besides Downey Wrinkle Release (very good), there is anoth product called "Day2"

I have always taken a travel steamer, never tried to hid it have it in my carry on bag security has never said a word nor has the stateroom attendant. Safe I think so much safer than a curling iron, or a cell phone left on its charger. I find it odd that cruises out of England they put a teapot in all the rooms, Irons I understand they stay hot for some time even after they are shut off.

Nope!  and you can't bring one on board, not even a travel iron; will confiscate it and return after cruise.

Thank you both but a Cruise Critic post matters no more or less ...  The FB post was relating to people's experience (or so they said), I was looking for people's experience to confirm or otherwise that steamers get through security depending on whether they do or do not have a metal plate. Cheers

So the postings about tables full of confiscated items at disembarkation ( I've seen them too)  plus the published ships policy that specifically includes steamers on their banned list isn't enough for you. But a single post by one person who has managed to get away with it is all you need. Well alrighty then. You can't say you haven't been warned.

Thanks

Most of would prefer that other passengers not put us in danger by trying to sneak on prohibited items.

Please take the time to read and absorb what I have written. Not one person but a few others on FB. If you happened to notice whether some confiscated steamers did not have metal plates I would appreciate learning of this - now that would be a useful response. TIA and cheers.

I agree. I hope that others do as I will and declare items that MAY be not be allowed. Cheers

As I said we take a travel steamer always and do not hide it is always seen by the security personal as it is on top in my carry on.  What you need to do as everyone should do is READ YOUR CRUISE DOCUMENTS (contract) sent out to us by Celebrity just before our cruises. The contract clearly lists the rules and clearly states all banned items guess what steamers are not listed. It is very clear!  Maybe they just added steamers to the list of banned items if so I will not bring one but I doubt it. The web site does not RULE but your documents (contract) does review it before you leave if steamers have been added leave it at home. Anyone who has used a steamer knows they are very safe and no more a fire hazard than most other electrical devices we use everyday in life.

wrk2cruise

I leave on Equinox on Saturday so I pulled up my cruise docs and looked at the contract.  Here is the wording, yes it does exclude steamers.

Firearms & Ammunition, including realistic replicas, Sharp Objects, including knives and scissors* , Illegal Drugs & Substances , Candles & Incense, Coff ee Makers, Clothes Iron s/Steamers & Hot Plates , Baseball Bats, Hockey Sticks, Cricket Bats, Bows and Arrows, Skateboards & Surfboards, Martial Arts Gear, Self-Defense Gear, including handcuff s, pepper spray and night sticks, Flammable Liquids and Explosives, including lighter fl uid and fi reworks, HAM Radios, Dangerous Chemicals, including bleach and paint; Alcoholic Beverages**; Hookah Pipes. *Personal grooming items such as safety razors are allowed. Scissors with blade length less than 4 inches are allowed.

Are Travel Irons On Cruise Ships Really Forbidden? Know Your Best Options.

By: Author Tyler Bowman

Posted on Last updated: October 14, 2023

Categories Amenities , LEARN , ONBOARD EXPERIENCE

When you have packed several days or weeks of clothes into your cruise luggage , keeping your clothes looking presentable and (relatively) wrinkle-free can be challenging. Thankfully there are several options available to all cruisers.

Generally, travel irons on cruise ships are prohibited. Any you won’t find any cruise approved steamers either. These items present a potential fire hazard. While using a travel iron in your cabin is not permitted, you have other cruise ship laundry options that can address your needs.

There is no reason you can’t have impeccably wrinkle-free clothing throughout your stay on a cruise ship. Keep reading to get details on your options.

Can You Bring Travel Irons On Cruise Ships?

Travel irons are one of many restricted items for use on cruise ships because irons present a potential fire hazard. As you can imagine, an iron left unattended in a stateroom could be a serious recipe for disaster that cruise lines would like to avoid at all costs.

We are aware of only one cruise line that potentially permits passengers to bring travel irons on the ship: Marella Cruises(owned by Tui Cruises). Marella permits guests to bring travel irons onto the ship, but it reserves the right to confiscate any irons determined to be a safety hazard. Confiscated items will be returned at the end of your cruise.

Even though you are largely prohibited from packing your travel iron, you don’t have to resign yourself to a vacation filled with wrinkled clothes. Depending on the cruise line, you will have several options available. Some cruise lines provide self-service laundry facilities, which in addition to a laundry room with washers and dryers, will contain irons and ironing boards for passenger use. While the washers and dryers usually have a charge, the ironing equipment typically does not.

Most cruise lines also offer professional ship laundry services such as dry-cleaning and pressing to ensure your clothes return to you in perfect condition. Usually, these services will come at an extra expense.

Can You Bring A Steamer On A Cruise Ship?

Most cruise lines treat clothes steamers the same way they treat travel irons: They are prohibited. They will be confiscated if found.

Alternatives To Using A Travel Iron Or Clothes Steamer On A Cruise

Wrinkle-free or wrinkle-resistant clothing.

One of the best ways to eliminate the need for clothing irons is to bring only the type of clothing that does not require ironing. This type of clothing exists, and there are many wrinkle-resistant fabrics on the market.

Several clothing manufacturers produce travel clothing made out of wrinkle-resistant fabric to ensure you do not need to do any ironing. However, these clothes generally perform best when placed in a dryer, and you may not have easy access to a dryer on a cruise ship.

Suppose travel clothing is not your style – which tends to be casual and somewhat unfashionable. In that case, you can opt for normal clothing made out of wrinkle-resistant fabric. For these purposes, some of the best fabrics include polyester, nylon, acrylic, and olefin.

Suppose you prefer natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. In that case, you can find these fabrics blended with synthetics that will be far less prone to creasing and wrinkling, especially if you opt for a knit or stretch fabric instead of non-stretch woven material.

Wrinkle-Release Spray

Wrinkle-releasing sprays such as Downy Release are an excellent way to de-wrinkle your clothing before wearing it. While this chemical method may not be as effective as ironing, it will still serve its purpose to a large degree.

celebrity cruise line iron

Advanced Dry-Cleaning

Alternatively, you can have your clothing dry-cleaned before packing and request that they do a heavy starching on the fabrics. Leave these clothing items in their dry-cleaning bags, roll them up while still in the bags, and then pack them carefully. This packing method will ensure that the clothes are as crease-free as possible when you unpack them in your stateroom.

Shower Steam

The old steamy shower trick is another option that can be extremely effective. The best way to steam your clothing without a steamer is to run the shower at the highest temperature possible for around two minutes. Next, hang the clothing in the shower, and leave the room while ensuring that you close it up properly to keep in as much heat and steam as possible.

Typically, cruise lines permit hair dryers and other hair tools like flat irons on board. Thus, a hair straightener can be used as an alternative to a travel iron and is especially useful for items such as collars and cuffs on shirts.

A hairdryer can be used similarly to eliminate creases or wrinkles from your clothing quickly. You can use the hairdryer after applying a wrinkle-release spray to enhance the effect of both methods.

Packing To Prevent Wrinkled Clothing

You can also use several time-tested packing hacks to prevent or minimize wrinkles.

A hard-shelled suitcase is another brilliant idea to keep your clothes free of wrinkles when traveling. Soft suitcases tend to allow the clothes inside them to be squashed, causing pressure which results in creases and wrinkles.

Do not overpack your suitcases, as this pressure will also cause wrinkles in your clothing. When folding your clothes, fold them in bundles so that there are fewer small folds. Start by folding your smaller items in the middle; then, fold your larger items over them until you have a neat bundle of folded clothing.

Packing cubes can be purchased at many stores. These smart devices will help prevent wrinkles while saving space in your luggage.

When it comes to formal items, stuff the bodices and shoulders with tissue paper to help them retain their stiffness and reduce the chances of wrinkles or creases.

Most importantly, remember to unpack and hang your clothing as soon as possible once you have entered your stateroom. The more time your clothes spend in your luggage, the higher the chance of them becoming wrinkled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do royal caribbean cruises have irons.

Royal Caribbean does not provide irons in cruise ship cabins due to safety concerns. However, pressing services are available through the ship’s laundry facilities.

Are there irons on Carnival Cruise?

Carnival does not provide irons in cruise ship cabins. However, most Carnival ships have self-service launderettes which will have an iron and an ironing board.

Can you bring a curling iron on a cruise?

Most major cruise lines will permit common grooming items such as curling irons. However, if it is being used in an unsafe manner, it may be confiscated until the end of the cruise. (Example: Leaving the curling iron on when you exit the cabin.)

While most cruise lines prohibit bringing any form of iron or steamer onto the ship, there are, fortunately, several ways to ensure your clothing remains wrinkle-free throughout your cruise. Besides the range of methods you can employ to ensure your clothes remain wrinkle-free, you can also use the laundry services and the launderettes on board.

Yes they are allowed, along with flat irons. It makes no sense to me that steamers are not allowed though. I wonder if it's because they want more revenue.

20pluscruises

Yes, hair curling irons are allowed...bring a fat rubber band for the hair dryer as you need to constantly hold the button down when using

TeaBag

Good advice. I have a strip of velcro that I use but I think your idea is better.

I use the black electrician's tape. :D. I think duct tape would also work.

Thanks so much for the quick responses & tips!

They don't get any revenue from me, I just either hang those with wrinkles in the bathroom with the shower on or use a wrinkle releaser. Someone suggested using a flat iron to remove wrinkle from pants...never thought of that.
I have read that about the flat irons, but I don't own one. I've tried the wrinkle release twice and have not had good luck with it. Note to self:try the shower next time. :D

Someone posted a thread earlier this week on what would keep you from sailing on Celebrity .

If I could NOT bring my curling iron, that would my reason! :D

LOL! Duct tape fixes everything! :D
Someone posted a thread earlier this week on what would keep you from sailing on Celebrity . If I could NOT bring my curling iron, that would my reason! :D LuLu

LOL! I almost posted the same! Not a chance I would even consider traveling without my hair - flat iron.

Jane2357

Bring your own blow dryer (travel size) which weights almost nothing and takes up little space. The horrid thing in the bathroom is BAD. Forget the tape or velcro and bring your own - that way you can get ready at the desk area whilst your other - is using the bathroom. This is especially important when cruising with girlfriends. ;) Yes the curling iron is o.k.
You can pick up a flat iron for $15 and up at Target. Good investment if you cruise a lot and get a lot of wrinkles.

I will keep that in mind, but I am fortuanate I don't have too many wrinkles the way I pack. Sometimes the pre cruise days do take their toll DH's dress shirts from being in a suitcase too long before I unpack.

And what it doesn't alcohol will. :D ;) :p

CathyCruises

They don't use those wall mounted ones any more. They all have hand held dryers that can only be used at the desk.

That was the situation in 2013. There was one in the drawer of what I call "my vanity". :D. That is the only area I don't share with DH. :p

bar_20

What is no longer allowed are power strips. If you must try and sneak one on put it in your check in suitcase not your carry on. My wife put ours in her carry on and when it went through security they confiscated it but let a 6ft extension cord with three outlets through.

To the OP "feldmutze": To answer your original question .... Yes, curling irons are allowed. :)

"Live from...."

check out: monster power outlets to go.

Can You Bring Curling Irons On a Cruise Ship?

Do you want to curl your hair while on your cruise vacation but are unsure if you can take your curling irons or an alternative?

As you may be aware, many items produce heat that are forbidden to be taken on board cruise ships, such as coffee makers, hot plates, and clothes steamers .

However, the exception to this rule across all the main cruise lines is hair grooming products such as curling irons or curling tongs as they are sometimes referred to.

Can You Take Curling Irons on a Cruise

Curling irons are allowed on all main cruise lines and are often mentioned directly in the prohibited items lists as an exception.

This includes both electric and cordless butane curling irons.

I’m fairly sure if curling irons were banned, the cruise lines would lose some customers to land-based vacations. They are a cruise essential item for many passengers who like to look their curly best.

Can I Bring a Curling Iron in My Carry-on?

You can bring your curling iron in your carry-on bags.  This applies both to for embarking on your cruise and also on a plane if you have to take a flight to the port.

Can I Take Curling Irons On in Checked Luggage?

You can take curling irons onto a cruise via your checked luggage.

However, if you are flying into a port it’s worth noting that you can’t have curling irons on your checked luggage for flights.

Which Cruise Lines Allow Curling Irons

All the main cruise lines allow you to take curling irons on board.

  • Carnival Cruise
  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Disney Cruises
  • Holland America
  • MSC Cruises
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Princess Cruises
  • Royal Caribbean Cruises
  • Viking Cruises
  • Virgin Voyages

Can You Bring Curling Irons on Carnival Cruise?

Carnival cruise specifically states among other grooming devices, that they allow curling irons in their exceptions list when used with proper caution.

They also warn that:

“ if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark “

For more info on stateroom and bathroom amenities, see here .

Can You Bring Curling Irons on Royal Caribbea n Cruise?

Yes, you can take your curling irons onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, and they expressly stated this in answer to that direct question here :

Can You Bring Curling Irons on Celebrity Cruise?

Celebrity Cruises specifically mention you can bring curling irons in their list of prohibited items.

They list several heating items that generate heat and can’t be taken on board due to being deemed hazards but expressly state:

“ The only exception to this policy are curling irons and hair straighteners. “

“ The only exception to this policy are curling irons and hair straighteners. “ Celebrity Cruise

You can see the full list here under what items are prohibited.

Can You Bring Curling Irons on Disney Cruise?

When asked the question directly, “Are flat irons and curling irons permitted on Disney cruise ships” Disney confirms here that you can use curling irons on your stateroom along with a reminder to unplug them when you’ve finished using them.

Can You Bring Curling Irons on Norwegian Cruise?

Norwegian cruise says you can take curling irons on board, but you may need a converter in some instances.

“ Curling irons and hair dryers are allowed and may require a converter. “ Norwegian Cruise

See the full text at the top of the list of the Prohibited items here .

Are Curling Irons Allowed on Viking Cruise?

As an example of a cruise line that also offers a lot of river cruises, we looked up whether Viking cruises allow curling irons on board.

You’ll be pleased to know they are listed as an allowable item at the very bottom of the list on this page .

Can I Take Curling Irons on Virgin Voyages?

Virgin voyages don’t specifically mention curling irons, but in answer to the question “Can I bring electrical appliances with me i.e., hair dryer, flat iron, iron?” they state: “

“Clothing irons are a no go on board, but if you need to bring flat iron for your hair , that’s ok.” Virgin Voyages

So we can only assume that includes curling irons.

The question was one of many answered on their help page .

How to Pack Your Curling Irons for Your Cruise

Make sure you wait until your curling tongs are cool before packing them.

When you do pack them make sure there is no way for them to be accidentally activated.  Ideally, pack them in a designated curling iron case.

If you have Butane cordless irons, place a safety cover over the heating elements.

You should find a space in your main suitcase to pack your curling irons.  If you have a lot of hair products, you may

Can You Bring Curling Tongs on a Plane?

If you are flying into port to embark on your cruise, you may be wondering if you can bring your curling tongs in your carry-on luggage or if they will have to go into your checked bags.

Electric, battery, and gas-powered curling irons are allowed in carry-on bags if you take an aircraft for any part of your journey.

Butane curling irons are not allowed in checked luggage but can be packed in your carry-on bags ( TSA ). Although note you are only allowed one gas-powered item in your suitcase, so if you have any other gas-powered accessories, you will have to leave them at home or ask a traveling companion if they will take them for you.

You are not allowed to take spare gas cartridges onto the plane.

celebrity cruise line iron

Will Your Curling Irons Work on a Cruise?

You may wonder if your curling irons will even work once you are on the cruise ship. The good news is that most cruise ships have 110-volt outlets in the staterooms, which are the same voltage as what is used in the United States.

This means you will be able to use your curling irons without needing a voltage converter.

However, some passengers have reported that at times their curling irons have not worked on some trips and then work fine when back home, although it’s not clear why this is if most others have.

It could be the outlet. Sometimes they are quite old and don’t hold the plug tightly enough.  If possible, try to prop up the plug and see if that helps.

Sometimes the outlets on a cruise simply don’t give enough power to heat the curling irons enough. Although this isn’t a common experience, it does happen for some.

Best Curling Irons for a Cruise

The best curling irons for a cruise ship should have an auto shut-off feature that automatically switches them off after a set amount of time if ever left on.

Although not a common occurrence, some people do have issues with their curling irons not heating up as much, and this could be more likely with higher wattage curling irons. Some passengers take low-wattage ones and find they work better.

You may want to consider a travel curling iron that is smaller and more compact.  These can be good if you have limited space in your luggage.  There are also some combo curling and straighteners on the market if you’d normally take both.

Curling Iron to pack for a cruise

Will Your Curling Irons Get Confiscated?

Your curling irons will not be confiscated from your luggage as they are allowed on all the main cruise lines.

There have been reports of curling irons being confiscated if they have been left on in a room which is a fire hazard.

So, if you are using your curling irons in your room, turn them off before you leave the room, and don’t leave them plugged in.

Do Cruise Lines Provide Curling Irons?

Cruise lines do not provide curling irons to passengers on any of the main cruise lines.

We checked with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Princess Cruises, and they do not provide them in any form.

What if you Forget Your Curling Irons?

If you forget your curling irons and want to curl your hair while on your cruise, a few alternative options are available.

You could try purchasing curling irons on board the ship’s shops, although we’ve never seen them for sale as of yet. If you have, please let us know on which ship.

If the ship is docked in a port, you may be able to pop out and buy some. Depending on where you are traveling, make sure they will work with the stateroom outlets.  However, this isn’t ideal as you will waste time on your trip.

Curling Hair Without Curlers?

If you forget your curling irons or they don’t work for whatever reason, there are plenty of other ways you can curl your hair, so don’t despair.

Firstly you could check Youtube for lots of variations on ways to curl hair, including if you have them using hair straighteners or flat irons. I was going to post one, but there were way too many to choose from.

Other methods include braiding, twisting, tying socks in hair to sleep in (daughters use this one), rollers, and many more.

As a last resort, you could make friends with curly-haired passengers and ask if you could borrow their curling tongs 🙂

Always Turn Your Curling Irons Off

In the interests of safety, always remember to turn your curling irons off.  If you leave them on, it would be a potential safety hazard for the entire ship and anyone in the room that might accidentally come into contact with in the stateroom, which is more likely given the typically smaller living quarters than when back home.  This is especially important if young children are around.

Tips for Using Your Curling Irons on a Cruise Ship

Extension Cord: Consider taking an powerstrip (extension cord) or multi-plug adapter (if allowed).   You won’t know until you get to your stateroom how close they are to where you want to curl your hair.  You may also be limited to one outlet and have other guests in your room wanting to use it a the same time.

Travel Mirror: It can always be handy to have an extra travel mirror just in case of any issues in reaching the cabin mirror or competing for space with other guests in your room.

Hair Spray: Make sure you take your favorite hair spray with you as you might not be able to find the same brands on board, and some heat protectant sprays can be important for the health and look of your hair.

Curling Cream or Mousse: Depending on the style you want to achieve, you might want to take some curling cream or mousse with you, as these can help give your hair extra hold.

Hair Clips: These can be helpful to section off your hair while curling

Allow Extra Time: If you have long hair, it might take longer to curl on board than at home due to possible lower power, so be prepared and give yourself plenty of time.

Bringing Your Curling Iron or Hair Straightener on a Cruise – What To Know

Can you bring a curling iron or hair straightener on a cruise.

Packing for a cruise trip can be a daunting task. Each cruise line has an exhaustive list of prohibited items, including heating devices like hair straighteners, curling irons, and hair rollers.

On a recent cruise, while watching my best friend unpack her numerous suitcases… I noticed what seemed like endless “appliances”. So I asked my bestie why she brought her Hair Straightener and Curling Iron on a Cruise – among other things. (as a man, I really never understand some of the things my female friends bring with them!) 🙂

I was lectured, as if I was completely out of touch with beautification, on how women suffer from frizzy and dry hair on a cruise ship. It’s due to the higher humidity levels, salty air, strong winds, and generally crappy hair products included in the cruise cabins. Hence, carrying hair care equipment, including a flat or curling iron, is necessary. Who knew ?!

Apart from this, she went on (at great length) about all the reasons she never leaves home without these tools:

  • Always wants to look best in photos and videos (who doesn’t want this, right?)
  • Hairstyles for special events, parties, and dinners
  • Salons onboard are expensive with limited appointments
  • For her and other people, hair styling is part of a daily routine, making a flat or curling iron essential (I’ll stick with my short hair, thank you!)

Consider me schooled on this topic for sure.

The question of whether curling irons and hair flat irons/straighteners are even allowed on a cruise comes up all of the time on Facebook and Reddit – so we’re going to go over the policies on electrical hair devices per cruise line.

Which Cruise lines allow Hair Straighteners or Curling Irons?

Cruise lines prohibit passengers from carrying electronic items with heating elements like steam irons, water heaters, clothes steamers, hair dryers, etc. However, most cruise lines have exceptions for hair styling tools like flat and curling irons.

However, each cruise line may have unique rules (and these rules can change!).

Remember, improper use can result in the crew confiscating them for fire hazards or safety reasons. Here’s a list of the most popular cruise line policies for hair straighteners and curling irons.

  • Read : Our Essential Cruise Packing Guide

Norwegian Cruise Line

You might be shocked to see plenty of electronic items with heating elements on Norwegian Cruise Line’s prohibited list. However, the cruise line allows carrying hair straighteners and curling irons onboard. You must use the curling iron with care and proper caution. If not, the security team has the right to confiscate and return it on the last day of the cruise. If you leave one of these plugged in, the cabin steward will likely unplug it (and may remove it)

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line prohibits all types of items that generate heat or produce an open flame, like candles, travel steamers, coffee makers, and more. However, the only exceptions to this rule are hair straighteners and curling irons. You can easily carry your flat and curling iron on a Royal Caribbean cruise without any second thoughts.

Carnival Cruise Line

Like NCL, Carnival Cruise also allows you to carry hair straighteners and curling irons. However, the crew can confiscate them if they pose a security hazard.

Can you Bring a Curling Iron or flat iron on an MSC Cruise?

MSC Cruise Line’s policy about curling irons and straighteners is so incredibly inconsistent across their various websites, that it’s really impossible to know what they allow. So they officially say in their FAQ that you cannot bring hair irons. (see here) . The cruise line strictly prohibits carrying heat-generating devices onboard with hair straighteners and curlers being the only two exceptions on SOME of their websites. For instance, their European websites specifically state that it is ok to bring these items, whereas the USA site prohibits it.

You might see information out in the world about MSC prohibiting hair straighteners. So the official rule is stated on their USA website – but practically speaking, I’ve never heard of anyone having one of these items confiscated. Just know it’s POSSIBLE that they may disallow a hair iron or straightener and confiscate it until the end of the cruise.

Princess Cruises

The Princess Cruise official website, prohibited items list, and FAQ section; however, I found no concrete information. I’ll update this after contacting Princess directly.

So before embarking on a Princess cruise, I recommend contacting their customer support and checking beforehand. Some people report having hair straighteners confiscated at check-in.

Does Holland America allow carrying a Flat Iron onboard?

Similar to Oceania Cruises, Holland America cruise line doesn’t allow passengers to carry a flat iron onboard however a regular curling iron is ok. (not intuitive) An older forum post also states that a passenger’s hair straightener was confiscated during the security check and kept till the end of the cruise.

Flat Irons are prohibited on Oceana Cruises

One of the few cruise lines that specifically call out Flat Irons as being prohibited is Oceana. Expect to have it confiscated. However, they make no mention of a simple curling iron.

Viking Cruises?

The Viking Cruise prohibited items list clearly states that electronic items that produce heat aren’t allowed onboard, including heating pads. However, there is an exception for curling irons. So carrying a curling iron or flat iron isn’t a problem on Viking.

Disney Cruise Line

You can carry a hair straightener and curling iron onboard a Disney cruise. However, you must place your flat iron on the small heat-resistant mat provided in each stateroom. If the crew finds the use of such items in a hazardous way, it reserves the right to seize them.

Does Celebrity Cruises allow Curling Irons?

Celebrity Cruises prohibited items list explicitly states that items that generate heat or produce an open flame aren’t permitted on the ship. The only exceptions to this rule are curling irons and hair dryers.

Can you carry Flat Iron on a Cunard Cruise?

Like most cruise lines, Cunard also prohibits passengers from carrying electronic appliances with heating elements, including board irons and kettles. Only hair straighteners and curling irons are exceptions to this rule. Hence, you can easily carry a flat or curling iron on a Curnard Cruise ship.

Virgin Voyages

The FAQ section of Virgin Voyages states that a passenger can bring a flat iron onboard.

Breaking news, ‘iron man’ star terrance howard mocked over unrecognizable new look: ‘his farrah fawcett era’.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Oscar-nominated actor Terrence Howard sat down for a new interview this week to air his alleged mistreatment and underpayment by Hollywood – but it seems many viewers were too distracted by his new hair-do to listen to what he had to say.

Howard, 55, who has appeared in films including  Hustle & Flow, Crash  and  The Butler , recently appeared on the online talk show  Straighttalkphanee  to explain why he’s suing giant Hollywood talent agency CAA (Creative Artists Agency).

He says he was paid $325,000 per episode per episode for his popular TV show  Empire,  while  The Big Bang Theory  cast was paid $2 to 3 million per episode, despite  Empire  having more viewers.

What goes unremarked upon in the interview – but what immediately caught most viewers’ eye – is Howard’s new hair: A red bob, complete with Charlie’s Angels-esque Farrah Fawcett flick.

“Imma try to watch the video and give him a chance before commenting on the hair but it’s hard,” one person commented under the video.

“Bro got the Farah Fawcett look and wants to be taken seriously,” wrote another person – a common comparison.

“I’m sorry, I know he’s talking about a serious topic but I can’t get past the fact that Terrence Howard is in his Farrah Fawcett era,” wrote another commenter.

terrance howard

“Are we supposed sit here and ignore Terrence’s wig?” asked another, while one follower said his new look made him resemble “a pimp from the 70s.”

Howard has made frequent complaints about his pay as an actor in the past.

In 2008, it was announced he would not be reprising his role as Robert Downey Jr’s sidekick in an  Iron Man s equel.

He said he was sacked over his refusal to take a major pay cut – claim which Marvel Studios publicly disputed at the time. In interviews, Howard laid the blame squarely at his former co-star, Downey Jr.

“It turns out that the person I helped become Iron Man … when it was time to re-up for the second one, [he] took the money that was supposed to go to me,” he claimed.
