Modern Comfort Food: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook

Ina has been a total 2020 mood with her giant Cosmopolitans and the various decadent recipes she's been sharing on Instagram. She's been such a light these last few months that she even pushed up the release date of Modern Comfort Food to October 6 from its original October 27 release date because, in her words, "We all need it ASAP." The cookbook will feature 85 recipes that give an Ina twist to dishes like tomato bisque and waffle iron hash browns.

Following its official release on October 6, Ina is hosting an online "book tour" of sorts that fans will be able to purchase tickets for through Williams Sonoma. The events will be star-studded, with Jennifer Garner joining on October 20 and Katie Couric making an appearance on November 17.

It's suggested that you buy your tickets at least two days ahead for each event to ensure you get access. Spots are limited, as are signed copies of the book, so the sooner you purchase the better.

Tickets go for $35 on the Williams Sonoma site , and for those that preorder Modern Comfort Food from Williams Sonoma before October 6, they'll get a downloadable catalog of all of the Barefoot Contessa recipes from all 12 of Ina's cookbooks. You can also enter a giveaway to win Ina's must-have kitchen items through the site.

It's Ina's world and we're just living in it. I'll pour out an extra large Cosmo to that. Cheers, people!

Ina Garten Takes Us Inside Her Barn Kitchen: "It's Just Beyond My Wildest Dreams"

The Barefoot Contessa gives us a tour of her East Hampton barn, revealing a few of her most cherished things.

In Oprah Daily’s series, My Creative Space , newsmakers, celebrities, and other notable names reveal the place where they feel most inspired, open up about their prized possessions, and share a few things they can’t work without.

For nearly 15 years, Ina Garten has had the same commute to work: She walks out the door of her shingle-style home in East Hampton, NY, pads across the lush lawn, and enters the barn—a lofty, sunlit structure, where she develops her simple yet sophisticated recipes, and films her Food Network cooking show, Barefoot Contess a.

"Every Monday, Jeffrey [her husband and the former dean of the Yale School of Management] would get up and make the four-hour schlep to New Haven, and at some point, he'd call and ask about my commute," she tells Oprah Daily over Zoom. "I'd be like, 'The rabbits were in the way today, so it really took me an extra second.'" She adds: "So yeah, the commute is very nice."

In the '90s, when the Gartens purchased their East Hampton house, they included a right-of-first-refusal clause in the contract for the open field next door—meaning that if their neighbor decided to sell the property, the Gartens would have the first shot at buying it. "Every year for 10 years, I wrote to the man who owned the property and asked if he'd consider selling," she recalls. "And every time, he'd write back saying 'no.'" Finally, in 2006, he gave her a call—that's when they worked out a deal.

By that point, Ina knew how she wanted to use the extra space: "We were filming for eight weeks straight, twice a year, and during that time, the crew took over the entire house, which meant Jeffrey and I practically lived in our bedroom," she says. "I knew that either Jeffrey was going to divorce me or I was going to have to find some other place to film."

ina garten barn kitchen

The result was a rustic, 2,000-square-foot barn. Designed by architect Frank Greenwald, it includes a perfectly organized pantry stocked with plates, props, and other staples; a reading room designed specifically for her cookbook collection; and, most importantly, an airy kitchen inspired by the one in her own home. "Remember this is a place where at least two people work," she says, referring to herself and her two assistants, who both test and develop recipes alongside Garten, in addition to helping with administrative tasks and social media. "So we took my kitchen and did it twice: We each have our own refrigerator and stove, and we have duplicates of every pot, pan, and spoon." There's also an 18th century Swedish trestle table (which, during the pandemic, has doubled as Ina's office) and 25 feet of limestone counter space. "It's just beyond my wildest dreams," she says. "Every day, I walk in here and think, I can't believe I work here ."

Ahead, the culinary icon takes us inside her space, revealing her must-have ingredients, recipe-testing process, and more.

My Creative Process

As soon as I have an idea for a recipe, I'll read everything that has been written about that kind of thing, then I'll come up with my own twist or a way to do it simpler. For example, when I was working on Barefoot Contessa Modern Comfort Food , I knew I wanted to include a beef stew. So I thought, what would I want a beef stew to be? I'd want the beef to be better, so instead of using chuck, I'll make it with short ribs, which have so much flavor. And how can I bump up the flavor of the sauce? Maybe I should add a lot of red wine, like beef bourguignon.

ina garten creative space recipe

Once I know what I want—both in terms of flavor and texture—I'll start cooking. Sometimes I nail it on the third try, and sometimes it takes 10. In fact, I worked on my Boston Cream Pie for six years. But when I feel it's right, I give the recipe to my assistant and I watch her make it. I want to see what she doesn't understand, like she might say, "I don't know whether to cut the carrots straight across or on a diagonal." Well, I'd normally do it on a diagonal, so I probably forgot to include that detail. When people stop me, they often say, "I feel like you're standing next to me when I'm making your recipes." That makes me really happy because that's exactly what I do. I stand next to my assistant and she'll go, "Oh my God, it's bubbling!" And I'll add: Don't worry—it's supposed to bubble .

My 12 Cookbooks

Making a cookbook can be a little like exercise—it's really hard in the beginning, but over time, you get better and better at it. After I released my first one , my publisher called and said, "We need another cookbook immediately," and I remember saying, "I gave you all the recipes I have. I had one book in me and I'm done." But then I thought, W ell, I used to do catering, so maybe I can do those recipes and call it Barefoot Contessa Parties , which is what I did.

Twelve cookbooks later, I can now finish a book and write down 75 ideas for the next one. It just seems to flow, and I think, you don't come up with new ideas by being alone at home—you get them from going places and interacting with people. We took [COVID-19] very seriously , but we're vaccinated, so in late March, I went to La Mercerie in New York City and had something so delicious that I came home and made my own version of it. Sometimes I'll talk to friends who are interested in food or I'll read a magazine and that will spark something. I feel so grateful that after 24 years, I still get up in the morning and think, I've got these great recipes I can't wait to work on.

My Most-Used Ingredients

ina garten lemon limes

When I buy groceries, I leave things like lemons, onions, and garlic in bowls on the counter, rather than putting them away. Not only are they easy to get to, but also, when I'm working, I often think, what would make this even better? Chances are, one of those ingredients will do the trick, so it reminds me to use what's already there, rather than search for some crazy spice or herb.

Also, it's essential that you have good salt. Most people think different types of salt are interchangeable, but that's not at all true. I have three that I use all the time: Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt , which is about half as salty as Morton Salt; Fleur de Sel de Camargue , which I use to finish things; and Maldon Sea Salt Flakes , which I'll add to savory dishes, like a pot pie. I'll brush the crust with egg wash, then sprinkle some pepper and sea salt flakes on top, so it looks like it has a lot of flavor—and actually does have a lot of flavor.

Marco Polo Tea

My trusty pick-me-up.

Mariage Frères makes a tea called Marco Polo , and I honestly think it has more caffeine than two espressos from Starbucks. It's like, if you have too many cups, you can't sleep for a week—but it's so good, especially with honey.

My 52-Year-Old Spatula

ina garten spatula

In general, I don't own a lot of specialized equipment. I don't have 20 types of pasta makers and all those other crazy tools that you buy at 3 in the morning, then wonder why you did that. Instead, I have just what I need and I take very good care of it. In fact, my favorite spatula is one I received as a wedding gift, which means—and I'm embarrassed to admit this—it's 52 years old. It came from Caldor, so over time, I've tried to find other versions of it, but none have been the right shape or size.

My Ideal Work Schedule

I'm most creative in the morning, so I always have my assistant get everything I need a day in advance. That way, as soon as our 9 a.m. staff meeting is over, I can immediately start cooking. By 12:30 p.m., I'm completely done in. For whatever reason, I just can't cook in the afternoon. So instead, I'll do the normal business stuff that I need to do...or sleep.

My Most-Prized Painting

ina garten april gornik painting

I have a painting by April Gornik , and every time I look at it, I think, I can't believe I have a painting by April Gornik. We bought it 15 years ago, and at the time, even though we were friends with her, Jeffrey didn't know her work. So one day when we were in New York, I took him to her gallery, solely to introduce him to her art. Honestly, I didn't think we'd ever be able to afford it! We saw a few pieces based on the Namib Desert, which she had visited after watching the opening scene of The English Patient , and they were just so beautiful. At one point, Jeffrey was like, "Excuse me, I have something I have to do." And I thought, where are you going? When he came back, he said, "I just bought that for the barn because it really belongs there." I couldn't believe he did that—but I'm so glad he did.

My Go-To Playlists

When I'm working, I'm almost always playing fun, upbeat music. It gives me energy. I tend to listen to my own playlists, which are actually available on Spotify and Apple Music: one's called Women Who Rock , another is filled with the music I listen to in Paris, and one other is called Barefoot Contessa Beach Party . It's that, and Taylor Swift. I have to say, I'll listen to anything by Taylor Swift.

My Surprising Pantry Staple

ina garten ramen

At the start of the pandemic, I posted a picture of my pantry on Instagram and asked if people were struggling to figure out what to do with all the food they'd stockpiled. In response, everybody went crazy over the fact that I had ramen noodles on my shelf. I'm still not quite sure why that was so shocking, but I actually just wrote a recipe for ramen chicken noodle soup , which will be in the next cookbook.

My Cookbook Library

ina garten cookbook library

At a certain point, I just had cookbooks everywhere. I wanted to put them in a closet—but there were too many for a closet. So I thought, why don't I make a cookbook library? And that's exactly what Frank Greenwald did, with the help of Daniel Romualdez, who designed the interior. I'm particularly fond of cookbooks from specialty food stores because there's a big difference between cooking for a restaurant and cooking for home. For example, cake. As a former specialty food store owner [she ran The Barefoot Contessa shop from 1978 to 1996 in East Hampton], my focus was to make a cake that stayed moist for two or three days, whereas a restaurant would be concentrated on making a dessert someone would eat right away. My friend, Sarah Leah Chase, owned a specialty food store in Nantucket, called Que Sera Sarah, and she's written wonderful cookbooks, like Nantucket Open-House Cookbook and Peddling Through Burgundy . Another friend, the late Anna Pump, owned Loaves & Fishes in East Hampton, and I love to use those cookbooks , too. Even The Silver Palate started as a specialty foods store!

My White Cake Stand Collection

I absolutely adore white cake stands. Every time I see one, I'm like, I have to have that. We love to visit Belgium, and whenever we go, there's a couple antique stores I always stop at—which means I end up buying six cake stands here and three more there. But we use them all!

My Beloved Jar of Vanilla Extract

ina garten homemade vanilla extract

Nearly forty years ago, Anna Pump taught me that if you put vanilla beans and a bottle of vodka in a tall jar, then three or four months later, you end up with vanilla extract. Plus, you can take the beans out, snip off the ends, squeeze out the seeds, and add them to something like a vanilla pound cake to make it even more flavorful and delicious. Ever since I learned that trick from Anna, I've used the same jar—occasionally adding more vodka or vanilla beans—and every time I open the lid, it's the best smell in the world.

My Favorite Recipe

ina garten french apple tart

Over the years, I've certainly made a lot of recipes, but one of the things I've probably made most is the French apple tart . It was actually given to me by the late Lee Bailey, who I loved and admired enormously. In the '70s, when I lived in Washington D.C., I used to visit New York and go to his shop, Bailey-Huebner, to buy what I thought was the coolest thing in the world, which was white platters. Nobody else had them at the time! Then, when I moved to East Hampton many years later, he became a customer of my specialty foods shop and a friend. One day, he mentioned that his favorite thing was this French apple tart and he told me he'd send me the recipe. But like everybody else, I figured he'd never actually get around to it. The next day, though, he left it on my desk. Not only is it the most delicious and simplest dessert, but it's very special to me.

Ina Garten's virtual book tour kicks off Oct. 6. (Food Network)

Ina Garten’s ode to “Modern Comfort Food” (Clarkson Potter, $35) lands on bookstore shelves on Oct. 6, so she’s doing a glitzy virtual tour with an assist from her celebrity friends, Williams Sonoma and the Bay Area’s Book Passage. And you’re not only invited, Garten says, you can show up in your jammies.

“The good news is you can come to the event in your pajamas and you can join me with Jennifer Garner in LA, Michael Ian Black in Miami, Sam Sifton in NYC, and more!” Garten posted on Instagram

The 12th cookbook in the popular Barefoot Contessa series, “Modern Comfort Food” was supposed to land in bookstores at the end of October, but Garten and her publisher realized we couldn’t wait that long. We need that Chicken Pot Pie Soup with Puff Pastry Croutons , Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas and other comforting deliciousness immediately.

So the book lands Oct. 6, and Garten’s virtual eight-city book tour launches the same day. And by “city,” we mean city whose bookstore is hosting the streaming appearance. You can join the New York City kickoff on Oct. 6, if you’re in a Big Apple mood and want to hear Garten chatting with the New York Times’ Sam Sifton, or flaunt your Bay Area love at San Francisco’s Book Passage event on Oct. 27, when Garten and the Today show’s Hoda Kotb make merry online. The $35-$50 ticket fee includes a copy of the new cookbook delivered to your door.

Here’s the schedule:

Oct. 6 – Garten and Sam Sifton, New York City’s Streiker Center; Madison, Connecticut’s RJ Julia Booksellers

Oct. 10 – Garten and Lynn Sherr, East Hampton’s Book Hampton

Oct. 13 – Garten and Helene Cooper, Washington, D.C.’s Sixth & I, Politics & Prose

Oct. 15 – Garten and Shay Spence, Austin’ Book People

Oct. 20 – Garten and Jennifer Garner, Los Angeles’ Williams Sonoma

Oct. 27 – Garten and Hoda Kotb, San Francisco’s Book Passage

Nov. 17 – Garten and Katie Couric, New York City’s Williams Sonoma

Dec. 2 – Garten and Michael Ian Black, Miami’s Books & Books

In her unmistakable voice (no one tells a story like Ina), she brings her past and her process to life in a high-spirited and no-holds-barred memoir that chronicles decades of personal challenges, adventures (and misadventures) and unexpected career twists, all delivered with her signature combination of playfulness and purpose.

Ina Garten Is Giving a Food Tour of Paris on Instagram Right Now — Here Are Some of Her Favorite Spots

Let the Barefoot Contessa be your virtual tour guide through the City of Lights.

Ina Garten is in Paris, and she wants to take you all along for the ride. At least on Instagram.

Garten , who often shares favorite recipes, sneak peeks of her garden, and even a few images of her beloved husband Jeffrey on her Instagram account, has switched things up to give everyone a look at her latest travels to the City of Lights.

"OMG back in Paris after 2 1/2 years in a rabbit hole! Granted, it wasn't a terrible rabbit hole but when you can't safely leave home, anywhere starts to feel a little claustrophobic," Garten captioned her first shot from Paris, which happened to be a smiling photo of Jeffrey as the two sat outside a cafe. "It's so good to be here and everyone is so happy! First stop, a glass of rosé and some chips at Café de Flores. For the next two weeks, I'll take you to some of my favorite places. Stay tuned."

Next, Garten shared her first stop in the city: Adriane M Fleuriste.

"First stop in Paris always has to be @adrianemfleuristeparis because Paris isn't Paris without a gorgeous bouquet of flowers," she wrote alongside the snap of a cluster of pink roses.

Garten then shared a sweet story about a vacation she and Jeffrey took to Paris in 1971, where she first tasted the sweet treats at her favorite bakery, Poilâne.

"When Jeffrey and I came to Paris in 1971, we stayed in a small orange tent on the outskirts of Paris (we couldn't afford a hotel room!) but the bakery @poilane was on my list of things to see (how did I even know about it??)," Garten captioned the post. "Now my favorite bakery is a block from our apartment and I go there all the time. If someone had told me then how things would turn out, I simply wouldn't have believed it. Frankly, there are still moments when I don't believe it!"

Of course, like anyone traveling to Paris , Garten too had to indulge a bit in the city's divine cheeses. But not just any fromagerie will do. Garten stopped in at Barthélémy, a shop known for its wide selection of rare cheeses and a staff of cheesemongers that will know what you want even before you do.

"Too much cheese; too little time," Garten posted alongside a photo of the shop's daily selection. "The renowned cheese shop Barthélémy is my favorite cheese shop in the world and it's right around the corner!"

And today, Garten shared her Paris breakfast and lunch "of champions." Her morning meal was a simple spread of coffee, baguette, and jam (which she commented could be enjoyed at "any café in any Arrondissement"), and later she snapped a pic of her warm goat cheese salad and frites at Café Varenne.

Garten's adventures have just begun around the city, so make sure to head to Instagram, give her a follow , and save all of her posts, so when you're ready to book a ticket you can see Paris just as like the Barefoot Contessa herself.

The Barefoot Memoirist: Ina Garten Takes Her Story to a New Publisher

Garten, the Food Network star and best-selling cookbook author, has moved her highly anticipated fall autobiography from Celadon to Crown.

  • Share full article

Ina Garten stands in a long dark jacked with a red lanyard and a medal around her neck. She’s smiling at the camera.

By Alexandra Alter and Elizabeth A. Harris

In 2019, the celebrity chef Ina Garten set off a flurry of excitement among her millions of fans: Garten, a Food Network star, best-selling cookbook author and social media sensation, was writing a memoir.

The publisher behind the book, Celadon, celebrated the acquisition of what was sure to be a best seller in a news release. “Ina Garten is beloved by all, a national treasure who has become iconic beyond the food world,” Deb Futter, now the president and publisher of Celadon Books, an imprint of Macmillan, said in the release. “Her memoir will cement her legacy in the cultural landscape.”

When Garten recently updated her Instagram bio to note the book’s October release date, the revelation once again led to online chatter and a cascade of news articles.

One crucial detail was missing: The book was no longer coming from Macmillan. Instead, it will be published by Crown, an imprint of Penguin Random House.

There’s little information about the memoir online, and the change in publisher — which has not been publicly announced — will likely make little difference to readers and fans of Garten, whose cookbooks have more than 14 million copies in print. But for Macmillan, losing a blockbuster fall book — the season when most publishers release their big name authors — to a rival could be a blow.

It’s unusual, though not unheard-of, for a major author to change publishers after a contract is signed. Typically such breakups happen when a writer and publisher have irreconcilable creative differences, or sometimes when an author gets poached with a more enticing advance from a rival company. Authors usually return their advance to sever a contract.

In an interview, Futter said that there hadn’t been any disagreement about the direction of the book, but that Garten had a long history with Crown, which released 13 of her cookbooks through their Clarkson Potter imprint.

“Ina and I worked really well together, and I’m really proud of the work I did on the book,” Futter said. “I want it to get a great reception.”

In a statement, David Drake, the president of Crown Publishing Group, declined to comment on the memoir moving from Celadon to Crown, but said the company was “thrilled to be reunited with her for the publication of her entertaining and revealing memoir,” which he described as her “inspiring and instructive life story.”

Garten did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The market for celebrity memoirs — which have long been reliable best sellers for publishers — has gotten even more heated in recent years, with publishers offering multimillion dollar advances. Some of last year’s top-selling books were tell-alls by big names like Prince Harry and Britney Spears.

Garten, one of the food world’s biggest stars, has built a massive social media following. She has 4.3 million followers on Instagram, where she endears herself to fans with her down-to-earth demeanor, forgiving attitude toward novice home cooks (“store bought is fine!” is one of her catchphrases) and her love of indulgences like giant daytime cocktails.

She also had an unusual path to stardom. She worked for Presidents Ford and Carter as a budget analyst for nuclear policy at the Office of Management and Budget before pivoting to food and opening her store in the Hamptons, Barefoot Contessa. From there, she created a food empire, with best-selling cookbooks that she released at a steady clip, and a popular, long-running show on the Food Network.

So far, she has revealed little about the content of her memoir, but that hasn’t stopped her passionate followers from speculating that it will be dishy: “Spill the tea, Ina!” one of her fans wrote on Instagram.

Ina Garten Books In Order

Publication order of barefoot contessa books, publication order of cookbooks.

Ina Rosenberg Garten is an American cooking, food and wine enthusiast, author and host of “Barefoot Contessa,” a cooking show on the “Food Network.” She first got interested in cooking when her mother in law bought her the cookbook series “Time Life” which would become a huge influence in her later work. Later on, she used the feedback from customers and friends and her own intuition to refine her famous recipes. Rosenberg was born in Brooklyn New York to a Jewish family though she would spend much of her childhood living in Connecticut.

Her father was otolaryngology surgeon Charles H. Rosenberg and her mother was a dietician. Growing up, her parents encouraged her to do well in school and she did well in the sciences. She has since used her scientific mind to experiment with her recipes.

As a fifteen year old, she went to visit her brother who was a student at Dartmouth College and it was there that she met Jeffrey Garten who would become her future husband. When she graduated from high school, she proceeded to enroll at New York’s Syracuse University but soon after quit to get married.

The two lovebirds would go on to live in Washington where Ina Rosenberg finally earned her bachelor’s degree. While living in Washington, Garten found a job at the Whitehouse, even as she worked on earning her masters while her husband found employment with the State Department.

She began work as a low ranking aid and worked hard to ultimately work in the Office of Budget and Management. She would eventually work as a budget analyst and wrote policy papers and the nuclear energy budgets for two presidents.

While her job paid well, she started thinking that she could be doing something more fun and creative that writing nuclear policies and budgets. It was at this time that she stumbled upon a newspaper ad for a specialty food store that was being sold.

She got her husband and together they went to Long Island where she bought the store even though she had no experience in any business let alone the food business. With cold feet starting to set in she made a low ball offer and was elated when the owner accepted it.

After more than eighteen years running her specialty food store and perfecting her chicken salads and baguettes, “Barefoot Contessa” became a popular food store renowned for its style and delicious food.

In 1996, she decided that she was ready for something new and sold the store to the chef and manager. Sitting on her hands, she took an office above the food store and started writing a cookbook. Her debut cookbook was the 1999 published “The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook,” which she asserts was one of the most fulfilling things she ever did.

The work went on to become a bestseller and she followed it up with several more cookbooks before she was invited to be the host of “Barefoot Contessa” on the “Food Network.” By 2015, she had more than ten cookbooks to her name and thousands of shows under her belt.

She also writes columns for the likes of “House Beautiful,” the “Oprah Magazine,” “Food Network magazine” and “Martha Stewart Living.” She currently makes her home in the Hamptons in New York.

Ina Rosenberg’s “Barefoot Contessa at Home” follows the author who chronicles her life living in the Hamptons, her secrets for making guests feel comfortable and welcomes the delicious recipes she makes.

For Rosenberg, it’s family and friends cooking with her in the kitchen or gathered around the kitchen table that make her feel that her house is a home. The author provides her secret recipes that have delighted family and friends to readers who need something delicious for an easy weekend meal. She has easy Breakfast Fruit Crunch and Cheese Danishes that go well with a Spicy Bloody Mary.

For Lunch, she makes the classics including the delicious Old Fashioned Potato Salad, Tomato, Pesto Paninis and Mozzarella. For dinners, she has a range of homely dishes that include Elis’s Asian Salmon, and sauteed fennel as stuffing of the delicious loin of pork. For dessert, there are a range of delicious recipes for the likes of Peanut Butter Icing, Blueberry and Peach Crumble, Chocolate Cupcakes and Pumpkin Mousse Parfait.

Ina also lets us in on her entertaining and time tested secrets for cooking. What readers will love is that you get the scoop on everything from how to have a fun dinner party, to menu planning basics and designing a kitchen.

Ina Rosenberg’s “The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook” is a work in which the author finally shars most of the secrets of her very popular specialty food store. She finally lets out the secrets of the style and energy that made her store one of the most special places with more than 160 breathtaking photographs and dozens of recipes.

Some of her favorite recipes make use of everyday ingredients even though the result is a very delicious food. What I loved best is the Pan-Fried Onion Dip with the fresh sour cream and car-amelized onions.

The tomato soup which is another delicacy that you will enjoy is made from fresh basil and oven roasted tomatoes to make for some very intense flavors. Her meat loaf is an excellent dish that is healthier than those of your grandmother, as it is made with fresh herbs and ground turkey. The flaky and light Maple-Oatmeal Scones are baked with real maple syrup, whole wheat and rolled oats. Most of these can be made at home with common ingredients you can find at the grocery store.

Ina Garten has said that it was from her days working for the food store that she got many of the ideas that make for the excellent recipes in this cookbook.

Ina Garten’s “Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics” focuses on the many techniques behind her easy entertaining style and elegant food that offers more than a 100 new recipes that will become the food connoisseur’s favorite.

The authors’ cookbooks have consistently offered subtle sophisticated and accessible recipes ranging from simple home cooking to delicious made easy French recipes. In this work, she breaks down her ideas about flavors and examines the techniques and ingredients that are the foundation of her refined and easy style.

She writes about the essentials from professional advice on how to make entertaining, cooking and baking a breeze, what not to serve at a party to how to enhance the flavors of your ingredients.

Easy Sticky Buns, Tuscan Lemon Chicken, and Lobster Corn Chowder have always been my favorite as they transform everyday ingredients into elegant meals that anyone can make.

Ina Garten Will Dish on Her Fascinating Life in New Memoir

Before becoming a Food Network sensation, the Barefoot Contessa star worked in the White House.

Ina Garten has a new publication in the works—but this time it’s not a cookbook .

The Food Network’s Barefoot Contessa , 71, announced on Wednesday that she will be penning a memoir, currently set to be released in 2023. Garten has been a fixture on the network since 2002, and has released 11 bestselling cookbooks.

“By finding a way to do what I love for a living – cooking – I’ve been fortunate to build a career that has not only been incredibly rewarding but has brought people together through the power of home cooking,” Garten said in a press release. “I hope my book will inspire readers to find their own unique story.”

Before her life of culinary stardom, Garten lived in Washington, D.C. and worked in the White House as a nuclear budget analyst for the Jimmy Carter administration. She eventually left the political arena to run a specialty food store—called the Barefoot Contessa—in Westhampton Beach, N.Y. “My financial life was on the line, and I loved that,” Garten previously told PEOPLE of the career move. “I love to jump off the cliff and figure out how to fly on my way down.”

Her connection with her husband, Jeffrey , has also been the subject of adoration among her fans. “Our relationship is just so stress-free, and we have a wonderful time together,” Ina told PEOPLE ahead of their 50th wedding anniversary in 2018. “It’s not like we have highs and lows, and we have to work things out.”

She has also acknowledged that being able to focus only on each other has made it easier for them. “We have more freedom because we decided not to have children,” she says. “That’s made a huge difference.”

Garten’s memoir will be published by Celadon Books, and is yet to be titled.
