The art of backpacking & adventures to get out of your comfort zone – tips and advice, how to do a day trip to anguilla from saint martin/sint marteen.

All that you need to know to take the public ferry from the island of Saint Martin to Anguilla – including schedules, prices, & maps. Plus, more info about the British territory of Anguilla like transportation options, accommodation, and what to do. Works also if you are visiting Saint Martin on a cruise ship!

Shoal Bay in Anguilla

The island of Saint Martin is one of the main destinations in the Caribbean between all the visitors that come by cruise ship and just pass a day, as well as all those that spend several nights.

There’s a lot of things to do and places to see between the island’s French side, called Saint Martin , and its Dutch side called Sint Maarten .

You can find a list of St Martin activities and things to do here on Get Your Guide . or Viator . You can even reserve and purchase activities directly (or just look at the options for some inspiration for what to do on your own).

But if you’ve already explored the island enough and are on the lookout for another nearby adventure, then I recommend you spend a day (or several) visiting Anguilla, Saint Martin’s closest neighbor.

What’s Anguilla?

Anguilla is a British island territory in the Caribbean that’s only about 25 minutes by boat from Saint Martin.

It’s a fairly small island that’s just 16 miles (25 kilometers) in length and 3 miles (5 kilometers) wide at its widest point.

What to do & visit in Anguilla

For visitors, Anguilla’s main attractions are without a doubt its 33 beautiful beaches to choose from. Some with lots of wind and thus perfect for watersports like kitesurfing or windsurfing, others tranquil paradises like Shoal Bay. To give you an idea of what I’m talking about, Anguilla’s Shoal Bay is considered one of the most beautiful and exclusive places in the Caribbean!

Other famous areas include Barnes Bay, Rendezvous Bay, Road Bay, and Little Bay. Anguilla is also known as one of the few places where sea turtles come annually to lay eggs between April and November. So, if you’re lucky you’ll get to see them!

You can find a list of more activities and attractions in Anguilla here.

How to get from Saint Martin to Anguilla (the cheapest way possible)

( NOTE: if you’re visiting Saint Martin on a cruise and just have one day to go to Anguilla, read below where I explain all that you need to know about getting from the cruise terminal in Philipsburg to Marigot to Anguilla and back again)

For being so close to each other, there’s a surprising number of ways to get from Saint Martin to the island of Anguilla.

The most expensive and fastest would be to charter a small plane from the Philipsburg airport in Saint Martin to the airport in Anguilla. The flight is just 8 minutes. There aren’t any big commercial flights going to Anguilla!

There’s also the option to take a fast charter boat from Saint Martin to Anguilla. But since they’re chartered, they aren’t exactly cheap.

But if your idea is to save on your visit to Anguilla, the best option is to take the public ferry between Marigot (the capital of the French side of Saint Martin) and Blowing Point Port in Anguilla (and really, the ferry is only 25 minutes…so there’s no reason not to do this option!).

You can get to the Marigot ferry terminal pretty easily from wherever you’re staying in Saint Martin (either by bus or taxi). Just ask your hostel , hotel , or any of the friendly locals on the street for guidance.

Schedule for the public ferry between Marigot (Saint Martin) and Anguilla

17:15

Schedule for the public ferry between Anguilla and Marigot (Saint Martin)

For more information on one of the boats that does this crossing, check it out here:

Cost of the public ferry between Marigot (Saint Martin) and Anguilla

The cost of the ferry is USD $10 one way or USD $20 roundtrip per person. You can buy the ticket right at the terminal – no need to reserve ahead of time.

When leaving from Marigot in Saint Martin, you’ll also need to pay a port fee of USD $5.00 when you buy your ticket.

If you aren’t going to stay overnight in Anguilla and just plan to spend the day, you don’t need to pay any port fee in Blowing Point when you leave Anguilla. But if you spend more than a day in Anguilla, you’ll have to pay a port fee of USD $23 when you buy your ticket for your ferry back to Saint Martin.

Total price for the public ferry day trip between Saint Martin and Anguilla

Ticket to go = USD $10

Ticket to return = USD $10

Port tax when departing = USD $5

Total = USD $25

And remember, if you spend more than a day in Anguilla, you’ll have to pay that USD $23 port tax when returning back to Saint Martin.

Immigration in Saint Martin

Tips for the trip between Saint Martin and Anguilla

As the sea between the two islands can be very choppy and have lots of waves splashing into the boat, I recommend you protect your stuff in a plastic bag so it doesn’t get wet.

And if you get seasick, it’s better to take some type of medicine before you get on the ferry. Crushed ginger pills are a good natural option to help with motion sickness in boats or cars.

Important tip for immigration between Saint Martin and Anguilla: bring your passport with you!!

Remember that you’ll be leaving from a French territory (Saint Martin) to a British territory (Anguilla)! So, since they are different countries (and the United Kingdom isn’t a part of the Schengen area like France), you’ll need to do immigration at both ports. It’s a super simple process, but obviously , you’ll need your passport to do it. Without the passport, you won’t be able to board the boat to Anguilla!

How to get around the island once you arrive in Anguilla

If you are staying in a hotel on Anguilla, they’ll probably arrange transportation from the port of Anguilla (Blowing Point) to your hotel. But if you’re just visiting for the day, you’ll have to arrange your own transportation to visit the places you want to.

Here are your options for local transportation in Anguilla:

Taxi in Anguilla: You can get a taxi right at the port when you get off the ferry. You can have them take you directly to one place (Shoal Bay, for example), or arrange with the taxi driver to drive you around and stay with you for a few hours to see various points on the island.

Price of the taxi: about USD $20 or so per hour (but negotiable depending on the total time)

Rental car in Anguilla: I think renting a car in Anguilla is your best option for transportation, especially if you have several people to split the cost with. It’s cheaper than a taxi and gives you the freedom to explore the island and visit places for as long as you like.

If you’ve read my article on the 5 Best Website for Rental Cars Around the World , you’ll know that I like to check several car rental websites before reserving to find the best deal. But in Anguilla, there’s not a lot of options for rental cars like in other places. Basically, they just have one car rental place and it’s right in front of Blowing Hole Port. So when you arrive from your ferry, you can rent your car from them right away.

It’ll be best if you can call to reserve a car and confirm the price ahead of time. You have to call because this rental car place doesn’t have a website.

(P.S: I know making international calls can be tricky, but I’ve always found Skype to be the easiest and cheapest way to make them. You can read more about how we use Skype for cheap international calls here . )

Here is the info and pictures of the car rental place in Anguilla:

Cost of renting a car: around $60 per day including the Anguilla driving permission (which they’ll give you right at car rental place). You need to bring your passport and driver’s license from your home country to be able to rent the car.

Scooter/motorcycle rental in Anguilla: this would be a great option to explore the island, especially if you’re alone or as a couple. But unfortunately, after the last hurricane that hit the island, all of the scooters were destroyed (as of January 2018). The only place to rent scooters on the island is the same as the car rental place we just talked about above.

So, I’d recommend calling ahead as well to see if there still are no scooters. Perhaps by the time you read this article, the scooters will have been replaced and are now available to rent again.

Bicycle rental in Anguilla: personally, I don’t think renting bikes to explore Anguilla is the best option. The best places to visit aren’t that close to Blowing Point Port, so you’d lose a lot of time just pedaling under the hot Caribbean sun to get to them. The island also isn’t very flat, thus making your journey more difficult. So in my experience, if you only have a day in Anguilla, bike isn’t such a great option.

This doesn’t mean that there aren’t places to rent bicycles in Anguilla. But the options available are for speed and road bikes (professional-ish ones), and probably not the type you’d want for a relaxed ride around the island.

Tip about transportation in Anguilla (or really anywhere else in the world): No matter what form of transportation you choose, I recommend you download a map of Anguilla from Google Maps onto your phone. Then, you can use it offline to avoid getting lost while you venture around the island.

Where to Stay in Anguilla

If you plan to stay more than a day in Anguilla, you’ll need a hotel or hostel that fits your budget and style. So, I’ll give you 2 options here. The more expensive and luxurious one is in Shoal Bay, one of Anguilla’s most famous spots, and the other option is a lower-key choice in case you want to save a bit more. But as you can see here in this list of hotels with prices , there aren’t actually cheap options in Anguilla.

How to do a day trip to Anguilla during a cruise stop in Saint Martin (Sint Maarten)

I did this exact trip myself. So, I’ll explain everything so you can do it too. Including maps & photos below!

  • Disembark from your cruise as early as possible. Then, you’ll have the most amount of time to explore Anguilla.
  • Walk for about 10 minute from the Philipsburg Cruise Terminal to the center of Philipsburg to take a local bus to Marigot. Map below.
  • In Marigot, get off at the bus terminal and walk for 5 minutes to the port to take the public ferry to Anguilla.
  • Take the ferry to Blowing Point in Anguilla. All the info about prices, schedule, Anguilla local transportation and activities are above.
  • Return to Marigot by ferry, walk from the port to the bus terminal, and take a bus back to Philipsburg.
  • In Philipsburg, get off near the center and walk back to the cruise terminal.

Map Saint Martin to Anguilla

Pay attention so you don’t miss your cruise! Plan to return back to Saint Martin at least an hour and a half before the final call to be on your ship. Then, if you have any problems along the way back from Anguilla to the terminal in Philipsburg, you’ll have some backup time to find an alternative. Just remember that if you aren’t back by the time your cruise says to be back, they’ll leave without you!

If all goes well, the total cost for visiting Anguilla during your cruise stop in St. Martin will fall under USD $100 (including the ferry and renting a car). Cheaper than most tours your cruise ship offers to go to Anguilla! And if you’re with more people and can split the cost of the car, it’ll be even cheaper per person.

It’s definitely worth visiting Anguilla during your stop in Saint Martin if you’ve already been or stopped several times in Saint Martin and want to do something new.

Where to find tours, activities and attractions in Anguilla?

If you are planning to visit Anguilla Island, be sure to check out the attractions and tours available in that region beforehand. A good way to do this is through the GetYourGuide website or Viator . That way, you can plan ahead and visit all the amazing places that this destination has to offer.

The Fun Stuff

What to expect.

Boarding begins at 8:15 a.m. at our pickup location, behind   “Nowhere Special” Restaurant in Simpson Bay .   Our crew will transport your party on a quick dinghy ride out to our yacht, anchored in Simpson Bay.

On arrival at Enigma, you will be greeted by our friendly crew who will give you a brief introductory tour of your boat for the day, while you indulge in a light breakfast of bottomless coffee, French pastries, and other tasty tidbits.

After we complete boarding and a quick safety briefing, we weigh anchor and set sail along the picturesque southern coast of St Maarten on our way to Anguilla. We sail past Maho Beach, Mullet Bay, and Long Bay. The views are breathtaking, so bring your camera!

Crossing the short Anguilla Channel, we make our way to either Rendezvous Bay or Meads Bay in Anguilla (depending on prevailing weather conditions). During our brief sail time, relax on the trampolines, have a drink from our open bar, with bottomless drinks available all day, or just take in the ambiance from the Flybridge to enjoy the beautiful Caribbean views. You are on Vacation, so relax and enjoy!

Anguilla features amazing beaches with pristine white sands and calm seas.  While we are anchored during our journey, you can swim, float with a noodle in the water, make use of the various water toys onboard, or just relax aboard and soak in the scenery.

Lunch will be served onboard, buffet style at around 1 p.m. Our onboard chefs use only the freshest ingredients available. A typical lunch aboard Engima includes BBQ ribs, blackened Mahi-Mahi, seafood paella, roast vegetables, and a variety of salads. Our Asian Chicken salad and our special potato salad are always in high demand.

After lunch, there will be another opportunity to explore the beach, hit the water, or just chillax to the max.

When the time comes, we’ll pick up anchor and sail back across the channel to St Maarten. If we have some spare time, we may even drop into Long Bay on the French Side of St Maarten for a quick stop at this beautiful, protected bay where the waters are calm and crystal clear.

We will have you back on the dock at Nowhere Special again in St Maarten by around 4:30 p.m.

The Fine Print

Know before you go, passports are required.

Anguilla is a sovereign nation, independent of St Maarten.  We have no choice in the matter. When traveling to Anguilla from St Maarten, we must clear customs and immigration on the way out of St Maarten, and upon entering Anguilla (and vice versa). The authorities do make it as easy as possible but we must still abide by the formalities.

We kindly request that you send us a copy of your passport at least 24 hours in advance of your departure, so that we may complete the required paperwork. Just a photo or scan will suffice. We will take care of the administrative work to do the appropriate clearance.

Unfortunately, there is a cost charged by the local authorities. As of Dec 1st, 2020, it is $USD30 per passenger. This fee is paid directly to the relevant authorities in St Maarten and Anguilla.  We absolutely do not ‘mark up’ the cost of immigration fees.

Dietary Requirements

Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. We will do our best to accommodate special requests with prior notice.

Accessibility

If you or any of your party have significant mobility issues or medical conditions, please contact us before booking. We are always willing to accommodate all guests and we will do what we can to assist. However, due to the nature of boating and the unpredictability of the seas, not all things are possible. We do regret that our boat is NOT rated as ‘Wheelchair Accessible’.

Please call ahead, if any of the above applies. We will do what we can to assist, if we can.

Your Tour Includes…

A day trip to Anguilla

Anguilla is one of those places where time seems to have stood still. This little island in the eastern Caribbean, just north of St. Martin is blessed with some of the most magnificent beaches in the world. Anguilla ( map ) is a short 30 minute boat ride from  Marigot ( map ) on the French side of St. Martin, making Anguilla an easy day trip from St. Martin. The island’s main attractions are its stunning white sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters and its inhabitants who are friendly and easy-going. You can opt to make a day trip or stay a few days at one of the island’s (small scale, exclusive) beach hotels.

How to get to Anguilla

Anguilla is a great day trip from St. Martin. To get there, take the frequent ferry service from Marigot. Don’t forget to bring your passport with you! US, UK and EU passport holders should have no issues entering Anguilla but please check here to be sure.

Anguilla day trip by ferry

There is a ferry service every 45 minutes from Marigot, starting from 8:15am and ends at 7:00pm. A one-way trip costs USD 20 for adults and USD 10 for children (2-11 years-old).

The ferry from Marigot arrives at Blowing Point . If you’re staying for the day, you can hire a taxi and agree an hourly or day fare. The best option is to ask the taxi driver to make a short sightseeing trip. Visit some of the main attractions in Anguilla such as Crocus Hill (Anguilla’s highest point), Sandy Ground (with its numerous restaurants and bars), and the capital, The Valley , before ending at one of the stunning beaches. Agree a time for the taxi driver to pick you up and bring you back to Blowing Point for the ferry back to Marigot.

The last ferry to Marigot leaves Blowing Point at 6:15pm (please note that all ferry times and fares stated above are subject to change. Check here for the latest info).

Anguilla beaches

Anguilla has many beautiful beaches but my favourite is Shoal Bay (East) , arguably Anguilla’s most iconic beach. Spend a very relaxing day on this breathtaking stretch of gorgeous white sand. Rent a snorkel and enjoy a BBQ lunch at one of the beach cafés.

anguilla-day-trip-shoal-bay-east-photo

Other stunning beaches in Anguilla include Meads Bay and Rendezvous Bay . Sandy Ground is another option. With its many restaurants and beach bars, such as Elvis Beach Bar and Dad’s Beach Bar, Sandy Ground is popular with both locals and visitors.

Any trip to St Maarten would not be complete without a day trip to the gorgeous and unspoiled island of sun and sand, Anguilla, and her unparalleled sister, Prickly Pear. Come and sail on Lambada, spend the day relaxing, partying, swimming, snorkeling and making vacation memories in this hidden tropical paradise.

Our friendly crew will welcome you at our marina in Simpson Bay, where you will board a 63 foot (19 meter) catamaran called Lambada. Find your favorite spot on the deck and relax as we sail toward Anguilla. Soak up the sun with a rum punch in your hand or enjoy the cool breeze in the shade.

As we sail around Anguilla, we will discover the nearby island of Prickly Pear. Its gorgeous white sand beaches and vivid turquoise water will astonish you and you will feel keen to dive into the sea as soon as we arrive. Grab the provided snorkeling gear and discover the beautiful underwater world and abundant corals or enjoy an other drink under a palm tree.

We will sail back to mainland Anguilla to experience an other beach. We will serve you a traditional Caribbean barbecue chicken, ribs or fish lunch at a beach restaurant. You will still have plenty of time afterwards to enjoy the beach or the warm, shallow water before we head back to St. Maarten.

Lambada is a great choice for families with children, couples and party groups. There is a dinghy that transports people to the beach if you do not swim or prefer to be transported with your bag. Climbing in and out of dinghies should be possible for you if you wish to enjoy this trip. We advise you to bring extra cash along for additional drinks at the restaurant.

The Perfect Day Trip to Anguilla

By: Louise Fayet

If you are in Sint Maarten/Saint Martin , taking a day trip to Anguilla is a MUST. It's easy and worth it!

Although we recommend a week in Anguilla, you can get a good taste of the island in just one day.

Let's get started...

Getting to Anguilla From St. Maarten

The most popular way to get to Anguilla from St. Maarten is by boat. Anguilla's public ferry is a convenient option. A quick 20 minute ride from St. Martin's Marigot port, it is reliable with multiple boats per day.

The earliest ferry leaves St. Martin to Anguilla at 8:30AM and the last ferry leaves Anguilla at 6:00PM which gives you over 9 hours on Anguilla!

Marigot port Saint Martin

Want a quicker and more luxurious option? Charter boats will zip you from St. Maarten's Dutch side to Anguilla in less than 20 minutes - with a rum punch in hand, no less! Calypso Charters is one of our favorite charter companies.

More on Anguilla's ferry system and charter boats here .

Once you decide on your preferred method of getting here...

Prepare For Your Trip

Make sure to bring all of your travel requirements and to book your car rental , scooter or taxi ahead of time.

Driving around Anguilla is pretty straight forward. Here are a few things to remember:

  • In Anguilla, we drive on the left side of the road.
  • Use a map app so you don't get lost.
  • Keep your eyes peeled for stray goats!

Anguilla goats

Special Tip: When it comes to maps, we recommend downloading the Google Maps app. Be sure to pre-load the offline map of Anguilla. More on accessing the offline Anguilla map here . If you would prefer to have Internet access while driving the island, drop into Digicel to get a SIM chip .

All right, you are on-island in your rental car... where do you start?

The Perfect Day Trip

A perfect day in Anguilla begins with an excellent breakfast. Our top pick for morning treats? Le Bon Pain in the island's East End.

Le Bon Pain is home to THE best croissants on the island, tasty sandwiches, quiches and quality coffee. Owner and baker, Yvonne is there 4 hours before opening to make everything from scratch.

We recommend getting pastries and baguette sandwiches.

Le Bon Pain Anguilla

Made of an entire baguette that is cut in two, these sandwiches are super high value. Also, your Le Bon Pain leftovers make for a great snack at the beach.

Talking about the beach, and conveniently located just 5 minutes from Le Bon Pain...

Shoal Bay East is first on our "Must Sea " list!

Anguilla's most famous beach, it ranks as one of the top beaches in not only the Caribbean, but the entire world. Its rich blue waters and soft white sand make it the most picturesque beach.

Shoal Bay Beach, Anguilla

It is a two-mile sandy beach that you can walk end-to-end. Still have your leftovers from Le Bon Pain? Find a shady spot and have a snack!

Need a drink? Shoal Bay has got your back. There are plenty of popular restaurants, local bars and beautiful hotels on this stretch of sand.

After a good soak at Shoal, let's head West to another top spot, Rendezvous Bay.

Note: Along the way you will pass a few favorite beaches:

  • Sandy Ground

Stop by one if you have time!

20 minutes after you leave Shoal Bay, you will arrive to...

Rendezvous Bay Anguilla

This semi-circle of sand boasts incredibluuue views of St. Martin! With gentle waves and brilliant blue waters, Rendezvous Bay is a favorite to many. It has been voted #1 beach in the Caribbean time and time again by travelers.

Rendezvous Bay is also home to one of our favorite BBQ shacks, The Sunshine Shack , locally referred to as Garvey's.

Sunshine Shack Anguilla

The BEST BBQ Anguilla has to offer, cool & refreshing cocktails, live music and good vibes... is there anything else you could ever need? ;-)

I know it is hard to leave but the next stop begs to be seen...

Meads Bay Anguilla

Meads Bay’s beauty is one of a kind. Here, the clear ocean floor is unmarked by reef and the shades of blue stretch to both ends of the beach. It is no surprise that Meads Bay has become a destination in and of itself.

Meads Bay is home to Anguilla’s most luxurious hotels, sophisticated villas and five-star restaurants all favored by the jetset and visiting mega-yachts.

Meads Bay Anguilla

You would expect this beach to be packed daily, right? That is never the case. Some days you have Meads all to yourself! That is the magic of Anguilla :-)

We recommend walking end to end, starting from the beach's eastern cove (near Malliouhana ) and heading towards the Four Seasons Resort . This will give you a full view of what Meads Bay has to offer.

On your walk, keep your eyes peeled for local favorite, Ocean Echo .

Ocean Echo, Meads Bay Anguilla

It is known for its laidback, casual atmosphere, excellent beach eats, terrific service and the best rum punch in Anguilla, the Rumzie!

Grab a drink, snack and pull up a beach chair. Listen to the "Ocean's Echo" while you enjoy your final moments at Meads.

The last stop of the day? Just a 5 minute drive away...

Meads Bay Anguilla

Perfection in the shape of a flawless little crescent, Maunday's never ceases to amaze us with its beauty.

Maunday's Bay is almost exclusively for Belmond Cap Juluca , Anguilla's crown jewel resort. The resort's suites line the beach, offering spectacular views of the shimmering Caribbean Sea. It's no wonder why Cap Juluca chose Maunday's Bay to be its home...

Meads Bay Anguilla

After soaking in the sun and bathing in the blue, it's time for your bittersweet departure.

The drive from Maunday's Bay to the ferry terminal is ~15 minutes. We recommend arriving ~20 minutes before departure time.

Until Next Time!

And on that note? The only thought that crosses everyone's mind... not enough time!

Check these top spots off your "Must Sea " list and there is no doubt that you will fall in love. Chances are next time you are on this ferry, it won't be for just one day... ;-)

St Maarten St Barts and Anguilla – Sailing Itinerary

anguilla tour from st martin

St Maarten (also known as St Martin) is an island of two distinct countries, and rich histories. If you’re curious about experiencing two very different cultures on one stretch of land, this is the island for you. If you’re considering a sailing vacation around St Maarten, you certainly won’t want to miss the nearby islands of St Barts and Anguilla. If you’re unsure about how to combine all of these fantastic destinations into one week, read on for our ultimate St Maarten, St Barts and Anguilla sailing itinerary.

anguilla tour from st martin

Day 1 – St Maarten

Board your boat at one of the marinas in St Maarten. The northern part of the island is the French side, whilst the southern part is Dutch. There are marinas on both sides of the island, but for the purpose of this itinerary we’ll assume you’re embarking from the south of the island, where the majority of the marinas are. You’ll likely be flying directly into Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM), on the Dutch side, so transfers are very straightforward. There are direct flights from Europe and the US, so already your vacation should be off to a relaxing start.

Wherever you’re boarding, you’ll certainly want to make the most of exploring St Maarten on-land before you take to the waves. There’s a huge amount to explore here.

Hilly terrains invite explorers to view the stunning landscapes from a different vantage point.

There are many picturesque villages and boutique shops to become acquainted with too. On the French half, there’s a distinctly continental feel, with cafes, terraces and French language floating through the air. The north tends to be a little more tranquil, with long stretches of quiet white beaches and attractive vistas of rocky coastline.

anguilla tour from st martin

The Dutch side has much more of the classic Caribbean vibe. The typically beautiful scenery is dotted with vibrant nightlife, including nightclubs and casinos. If you’d like to enjoy some of the classic Caribbean party culture before you set sail, this is the place to do it.

Day 2 – Sail to Anguilla

15 nautical miles from St Maarten lies Anguilla, undoubtedly one of the most stunning islands in the Caribbean. Once you’ve arrived, we recommend taking your dingy around the many caves and coves of the island. There’s also some excellent snorkelling to be done here, with abundant, vibrant marine life to explore.

anguilla tour from st martin

There’s no shortage of fantastic eateries on-land, offering fresh local fayre.

Day 3 – Tintamarre

A true tropical paradise – no sail around these islands is complete without stopping by Tintamarre. We recommend arriving for around midday, and taking a dip with the sea turtles who are fortunate enough to call this spot home.

anguilla tour from st martin

From here you’ll want to head over to St Barts for the evening. Moor-up and enjoy dinner aboard your yacht, or head to one of the local restaurants for more gastronomical sensations.

Day 4 – St Barts

Start your morning marvelling at the incredibly scenery that greets you at sunrise. The more active amongst you can take full advantage of the many watersports enjoyed here. Kitesurfing, windsurfing and waterskiing can be easily arranged. Or simply dabble with the kayaks, paddle boards and other water toys already on your yacht.

After lunch prepared by your chef, we suggest taking a leisurely stroll along the beautiful beaches, or hiring a car and exploring the hills of the island. There’s also excellent shopping to be had here, with latest French fashion stocked in unique boutiques.

Day 5 – Philipsburg

Welcome to the capital of Dutch St Maarten. The waterfront is a hive of cafés, bars, restaurants and clubs, which makes a great first impression as you arrive. As you dig a little deeper, you’ll become aware of the diverse culture here, with West Indian architectural styles and colourful houses lining the streets.

There are two main roads in Philipsburg – Front Street and Back Street. Front Street is bustling with stores offering local and international produce.

Day 6 – French St Maarten

One of the most special things about St Maarten is the 37 varied beaches to choose from. 70km of coastline lines the island, and we recommend spending a day on the French side, simply beach-hopping and exploring.

Day 7 – Return To Base

Depending on where you’re chartering from, and where your yacht needs to be returned to, you may have some time available to explore some other parts of the island. Otherwise, savour the final moments aboard your yacht and take a tip in the sea before you say goodbye to your crew.

When To Charter

As with the whole of the Caribbean, peak season across these islands is from November – March. However, the climate here is very consistent and temperatures are stable year-round.

Sailing conditions are also famously agreeable in these parts. In winter, the winds are usually between 15-25 knots and northeasterly. During Summer, winds come from the south-east with a similar speed.

Let’s Go!

We hope this suggested sailing itinerary helps you to plan your dream vacation in St Maarten, St Bart and Anguilla. Remember, your charter is totally customisable and we’re here to help you work out the details!

Tranquil Anguilla

  • July 9, 2024
  • St. Maarten / St. Martin Island Hopping Blog , St. Maarten / St. Martin Things To Do Blog

Serenity awaits on this neighboring island, just a day trip away.

Tranquility, by definition, means “a state of peace and calm,” but regardless of what words you use to illustrate it, it is not that easy to explain it to someone else … that is, until you set foot on Anguilla .

Over the centuries, this island has become the definition of tranquility. It is in the smiles of the locals that greet you on your tour around the island. It’s found at that line where the ocean meets the sand and the small bubbles of air escape as the water slowly recedes. It can be felt by taking a stroll down pristine beaches and shores lined by fishing boats, their wooden hulls painted in rich hues.

You can find tranquility in the smells that float through the air on the ocean breeze: a mixture of salt and sea, local cuisine and tropical spices. Combine that heady concoction with the melodies of steel pan music or the gentle lapping of waves. This is what the Anguilla experience is all about.

For years, visitors have come to this island intending to have that typical Caribbean experience. They imagine sipping fruity cocktails on the beach and dipping into the warm ocean. But they leave having revitalized their spirits. They spend their days sitting at open-air restaurants and sampling superb cuisine while slowly unwinding from their fast-paced lives. Before they know it, they have rewound time and gone back to a place of peaceful bliss. After all, they have experienced a country and people like no other.

Fortunately for those who have planned their vacation on St. Maarten/St. Martin, it is easy and affordable to experience the blissful tranquility of Anguilla on a day trip. Sail cats Lambada and Tango   depart daily from Aqua Mania Adventures in Simpson Bay. Pack lightly. These charter boats have everything you need on board.

Sail to Anguilla’s Prickly Pear island, where you can snorkel through the outer reefs in crystal-clear water. Head out to Anguilla’s most famous beach, Shoal Bay, and spend your day basking in serenity. Then build vacation memories on an island tour as you soak up the culture and lifestyle of Anguilla.

Open your senses, absorb the sights and sounds of this British jewel, and at the end of the day, don’t be surprised if you are feeling a lot more relaxed than you expected. It takes some time to detox from the real world, and once you have, you may not want to head back to reality that quickly. So, sip one more cocktail, take one last stroll down the sun-kissed beach and breathe in one last breath of ocean air, because once you have experienced “tranquility wrapped in blue,” your life will most certainly never be the same again.

A Tale of Two Islands: Belmond's Exquisite Caribbean Escapes Will Make You Rethink Paradise

V irtuoso, the global leader in luxury travel, recently announced its Virtuoso Hot 10, and the Caribbean island of Anguilla landed in the #3 spot. The report names destinations experiencing the largest percentage of year-over-year growth in bookings for summer 2024 .

Just a 25-minute ferry ride away, the Caribbean Tourism Organization's (CTO) Q1 2024 data ranks Saint Martin as one of the leading Caribbean destinations, showing a notable improvement compared to the same period in 2023.

The shared French and Dutch island saw an increase of 21% in visitor arrivals in January, February, and March 2024, a significant rise considering the challenges faced by the tourism industry in the region due to the global pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

A popular tourist destination known for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and delicious cuisine, it is also one of the most popular locations in the Caribbean for island hopping to Anguilla.

Kenneth Bryan, Chairman of the CTO's Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism, suggests that the region will benefit from key developments in 2024. These include increased air capacity throughout the year and enhanced access between destinations.

Luxury hotelier Belmond, owned by LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), makes island hopping in the Caribbean even more enticing with its collection of stunning properties in St Martin and Anguilla, two of the region's most idyllic locations.

Situated on the French side of the dual-national island of St. Martin/Sint Maarten, La Samanna, a Belmond Hotel , is reminiscent of the French Riviera with its vibrant turquoise and peach-striped umbrellas dotting the island's most exclusive beach, Baie Longue.

Cap Juluca, a Belmond Hotel, is stunning property on neighboring Anguilla island. This luxurious beachfront resort is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and white sand beaches along Maundays Bay.

Both properties landed on the coveted Condé Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards list in 2023 for best Caribbean resorts.

Those considering a multiple-island vacation in the Caribbean should choose a region where the islands are close to each other.

A short ferry ride separates the two Belmond resorts, offering guests the chance to enjoy the spirited island of St Martin and the blissful feel of Anguilla without the chaos of another airport experience disrupting their stay.

Belmond has developed a diverse portfolio of luxury experiences, catering to all types of travelers, from historic European city escapes to iconic train travel, each brimming with its own rich narrative.

St. Martin's Beachside Bliss of la Samanna

Situated in the Leeward Islands, the French side of Saint Martin lies east of the US Virgin Islands and boasts nearly 37 miles of picturesque coastline.

Island temperatures range between 80 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, and low humidity, gentle trade winds, and brief, intense rain showers contribute to its paradisiacal weather.

Lush, tropical foliage surrounds Belmond La Samanna, named after the original owners' three daughters, Samantha, Natalie, and Anouk. Walkways along the resort wind through beautifully manicured gardens and connect the property's rooms, suites, and villas.

Inside, a palette of pastel blues and peaches inspired by the natural hues of the Caribbean Sea invites sojourners to embrace the relaxed pace of island life. Ink blue ombre fabrics and seashell accessories mirror the island's vibrant marine life and culture.

Originally built as a large holiday home to welcome family, friends, and business associates, it was known as the hideaway for A-list celebrities starting in the mid-70s. It's a true mix of French seaside glamor and Caribbean paradise.

The property's spacious rooms, suites, and eight villas with palatial living rooms and whitewashed exteriors sit perched on a cliff overlooking Baie Longue, where guests can enjoy exclusive access to the beach, free from the presence of any other hotels.

"The beach, without question, is the star attraction. As soon as your feet touch the pure white sand, all your cares slip away. I'll never forget enjoying a picnic lunch right on the shore, waves lapping as I gazed out at the vivid turquoise waters," shares Andy Medearis, a travel expert and founder of Deals Points .

The enormous, private beach cabanas, measuring 15 feet by 15 feet, include food and beverage service, private beach chairs, an outdoor shower, complimentary champagne, and Bluetooth speakers.

The hotel's stylish beachside restaurant, Laplaj, sits next to an infinity pool, providing the ideal setting for savoring a sunset Aperol spritz.

Vibrant, impressionistic artwork adorns the walls, as do works by Sir Roland Richardson.

"There's not a single Belmond that doesn't have an interest in original art, but art is really built into our DNA," shares La Samanna General Manager Eleonore Astier-Petin.

Richardson's work is all around the main building corridor. "He's our godfather when it comes to art, but we've been very active since Hurricane Irma, trying to shine the spotlight on young, up-and-coming regional talents."

The cozy spa offers mindfulness activities from sacred stone activation to bio-resonance to iridology. You would not expect these treatments from a Belmond hotel, but after a long trek from the West Coast, I was grateful for the chance to relax and unwind.

The indulgent Sun Preparation Treatment prepares visitors’ skin for the hot Caribbean sun with a full body polish, an outdoor tropical shower, and a soothing soundtrack of chittering birds. The treatment ends with a blissful cranial reflexology session.

"Another standout for me was the on-site spa. After a morning of hiking around St. Martin, their massage treatments worked wonders on my tired muscles. Nothing beats relaxation time in the spa garden, serenaded by tropical birds," continues Medearis.

Belmond La Samanna also offers signature excursions like hiking with the Arawaks alongside resident archaeologist Christophe Henocq and a pre-dawn boat ride to Tintamarre, a former mid-century aviation strip in the Saint Martin Nature Reserve.

"Having stayed at several high-end Caribbean resorts in my travels, La Samanna continues to capture my heart year after year. I'd choose it as my home base without hesitation on any return trip to St. Martin.

"The location can't be beaten either, steps from the iconic beach and a short drive from charming coastal towns. No matter how many global destinations I explore, La Samanna will always feel like coming home. It's a rare find that gets better each time."

The Allure of Anguilla at Cap Juluca

The tiny neighboring island of Anguilla is only 35 square miles and is a popular destination for beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts. It boasts 33 beaches with pristine white sand and turquoise waters.

A new 18,336-square-foot ferry terminal at the port of Blowing Point features a VIP reception area and six immigration stations, simplifying travel between St. Martin and Anguilla.

"I flew into the airport on St. Martin from New York. The flights were easy, and going back and forth between the islands on the ferry was simple. Getting to see both places made my trip really special," comments Jenoa Matthes, founder of The Travel Folk .

Belmond Cap Juluca sits on a soft, white, sandy beach next to azure blue water. Designer Lauren Rottet's recent renovation transformed the resort into a modern-luxury paradise, honoring its Moroccan architecture and Caribbean roots.

All 108 guest rooms boast ocean views, showstopping bathrooms, and outdoor living spaces, with connecting suites offering the flexibility of different room types.

Anguilla, or "rainbow island," was initially inhabited by the Arawak tribe, who referred to one of their gods as Juluca, symbolizing the rainbow. Some buildings represent the names of Moroccan cities and towns. Other areas, like the garden of the new Guerlain Spa, bear rainbow-inspired flowers.

Each intimate villa has beach chairs, a water cooler, towels, and attentive beach attendants. Even when the hotel is at capacity, it feels private and secluded.

Cap Juluca’s 400-person staff contributes to its incredibly high return rate. Resort Manager Anthony Bradford explains that guests become family the minute they arrive. The staff's warm smiles and the island's tranquil energy create a stand-out atmosphere.

"We are known for our staff and team. And that's why we have such a large number of repeat guests. It becomes a family with our staff and with our guests, and they feel really comfortable. It's a family atmosphere, really low-key, laid-back, and private."

Cap Juluca has a soul. Guests connect to the property and the staff, captivated by the resort’s beauty, serenity, views, expansive property, and privacy. But the culture and palpable energy of the Arawaks give this blissful island its true meaning.

That energy radiates in the new Guerlain Spa, which opened in June . The spa focuses on elements intrinsic to Anguilla and the Guerlain wellness experience: water, salt, and botanicals. The philosophy is rooted in naniki, a term from the Taíno Arawak language that signifies being spirited and full of life.

The spa is an impressive addition to Cap Juluca. Its unique 18,000-square-foot design features an open-air concept with views of Maundays Bay. Water is incorporated throughout the property to reflect the healing powers of Anguilla. Other amenities include an open-air courtyard relaxation area, jacuzzi, cold plunge pool, and retail boutique flush with Guerlain products.

American Airlines offers direct service to Anguilla from Miami twice daily, with a third daily flight coming in December to ease high-season traffic. American, Delta, United, and JetBlue offer flights from major U.S. cities to St. Martin. A short ferry or private water taxi can take you to Anguilla.

Wayne Kask, founder and CEO of Discover West Central Florida , recently island-hopped between Belmond properties and cannot wait to return. "It was truly a vacation for the ages when I island-hopped between the idyllic destinations of St. Martin and Anguilla this past summer. Spending time at the Belmond properties in each locale — Cap Juluca and La Samanna — I was immersed in lush tropical surroundings and impeccable service. It's an itinerary I'll long remember and one I'd happily repeat."

Some Caribbean islands see almost 'total destruction' after Hurricane Beryl

anguilla tour from st martin

A more complete picture emerged Wednesday of the extensive damage wrought by Hurricane Beryl's trek across the Windward Islands, revealing destruction and at least seven deaths.

At least three islands report more than 90% of the homes and buildings either destroyed or severely damaged, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency reported Wednesday . All three are within the chain of Grenadine Islands, where Beryl roared into the Caribbean on the southern end of the Windwards, between St. Vincent and Grenada.

With 19 participating states across the Caribbean , the agency was helping coordinate disaster response on Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines even as it continued to track Beryl’s movements across Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Belize. The eye of Beryl, still a Category 4 storm, raked Jamaica's coast Wednesday afternoon and was expected to pass near the Cayman Islands Thursday morning, before making landfall in the Yucatan on Friday morning.

The damage estimates for the Windwards – where Beryl made landfall over Carriacou – are only "a very preliminary look," said Elizabeth Riley, the disaster management agency's executive director. Beryl struck the islands with sustained winds of 150 mph and higher gusts on Monday, and the National Hurricane Center had warned that winds could be up to 30% higher on the tops of hills and mountains.

The impacts to the Grenadine Islands are "quite significant," Riley said, leaving residents exposed and vulnerable. Even as recovery efforts began, a tropical wave brought rain and gusty winds Wednesday to the suffering residents.

Grenada prime minister discusses damage on Carriacou

In a briefing late Tuesday after spending more than two hours in a helicopter provided by the government of St. Lucia, Grenada Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell described "total destruction" on the islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

"There's really nothing that can prepare you to see this level of destruction," Mitchell said. "It is almost Armageddon-like, almost total damage and destruction of all buildings. Complete devastation and destruction of agriculture. Complete and total destruction of the natural environment."

"There is literally no vegetation left anywhere on the island of Carriacou; the mangroves are totally destroyed, the boats and the marinas significantly damaged," he said. "There is almost complete destruction of the electrical grid system in Carriacou. The entire communication system is completely destroyed."

However, Mitchell added, he'd been heartened by the volunteers "showing true Grenadian spirit" by arriving from other less damaged areas in boats and fishing vessels to begin delivering relief supplies to those affected.

Beryl damage updates

The following are the preliminary assessments Riley listed:

Carriacou, Grenada

  • The total population of 6,081 has been affected, so shelter is "a significant consideration."
  • Majority of homes and buildings have been extensively damaged
  • Communications have been significantly compromised

Petite Martinique, Grenada

  • Estimated 80% of the houses and buildings extensively damaged or destroyed
  • 900 people affected
  • Majority of the island is sheltering in place

Canouan, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  • 100% of the island's population (12,600) has been affected
  • An estimated 90% of the houses were damaged, either extensively or destroyed
  • Police station in Charlestown lost its roof

Union Island, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  • Full population of 3,000 was affected by extensive damage
  • Estimated 98% of buildings, including houses badly damaged or destroyed
  • Airport control tower destroyed, hospital roof destroyed
  • Power plant received significant damage
  • Government assisting people who wish to evacuate

Mayreau, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  • Total population of 300 people affected
  • 90% of the housing stock and buildings have been damaged or destroyed

Palm Island, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  • Resort and desalination plant significantly damaged
  • More than 40 homes with damage, a number expected to rise
  • Confirmed significant damage to the fishing sector
  • More than 200 boats damaged
  • Significant damage to the coastal infrastructure, particularly along the south coast
  • Partial road obstruction
  • Significant damage on southern end

Trinidad and Tobago

  • Power outages
  • Water disruption on Tobago
  • Roadway blockages on both islands

Bequia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  • An estimated 10% of the homes and buildings suffered roof damage
  • Airport and runway are usable
  • Minimal damages reported

Mitchell, Grenada's prime minister, said the island's northernmost parish, Saint Patrick suffered significant damage. The parishes of Saint Andrew, Saint Mark and Saint John also suffered much more damage than the parishes of Saint George and Saint David.

"It is clear that agriculture has taken quite a battering. It is clear that many persons have lost their roofs," Mitchell said. "It is clear, in some instances, many people have lost their entire homes."

Beryl maps show path and landfall forecast of storm as it reaches Texas

By Cara Tabachnick , Emily Mae Czachor

Updated on: July 8, 2024 / 11:07 PM EDT / CBS News

After hitting Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Beryl  churned across the Gulf of Mexico and made landfall over the middle Texas Gulf Coast as a Category 1 hurricane early Monday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. Beryl began weakening after making landfall and was downgraded to a tropical depression later Monday.

The storm blew past the Cayman Islands and Jamaica last week, initially making landfall over the island of Carriacou in Grenada while tearing through the Caribbean , strengthening at times to a Category 5 hurricane — the  strongest rating .

What is Beryl's projected path?

The hurricane center issued an update Monday evening saying Beryl was bringing flooding and the risk of tornadoes across portions of eastern Texas, western Louisiana and Arkansas.

As of 8 p.m. EDT, all  tropical storm warnings  and storm surge warnings for Texas had been lifted.

Map of Hurricane Beryl's path after making landfall in Texas

Beryl's eye "will move over eastern Texas today, then move through the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Ohio Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday," the hurricane center said. "Steady weakening is forecast, and Beryl is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone on Tuesday."

"An additional 4 to 8 inches of rainfall with localized amounts of 12 inches is expected across portions of eastern Texas through tonight," the hurricane center said Monday evening. "Considerable flash and urban flooding as well as minor to isolated major river flooding is expected. Heavy rainfall of 3 to 5 inches, with locally higher amounts, is expected across portions of far southeastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, and southern Missouri through Tuesday."

Before reaching the U.S., Beryl made landfall in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on Friday as a Category 2 hurricane, just northeast of the resort town of Tulum, before weakening to a tropical storm and moving back into the Gulf.

Beryl became the  first hurricane  of the 2024  Atlantic hurricane season  at the end of June and rapidly strengthened. It was the first major hurricane east of the Lesser Antilles on record for June, according to Philip Klotzbach, Colorado State University hurricane researcher.

Brian McNoldy, a tropical meteorology researcher for the University of Miami, told the AP that warm waters fueled Beryl, with ocean heat content in the deep Atlantic the highest on record for this time of year.

Beryl also set records  as the first June hurricane ever to hit Category 4, the farthest east a storm has ever hit Category 4, and the first storm before September to go from tropical depression to major hurricane in under 48 hours, CBS News weather producer David Parkinson reported.

Beryl was also the earliest Category 5 hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin and was only the second Category 5 storm recorded in July since 2005, according to the hurricane center.

Brian Dakss, Alex Sundby and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Here Is the Path ‘Dangerous’ Hurricane Beryl Is Expected to Take

B eryl is currently gaining strength in the Gulf of Mexico’s warm waters as the Texas coast prepares for the storm’s landfall late Sunday. A hurricane watch is in effect for the Texas coast from the mouth of the Rio Grande northward to San Luis Pass, with tropical storm conditions beginning Sunday night, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm has left at least 11 people dead across the Caribbean islands, according to The Associated Press .

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick—who is acting Texas Governor while Greg Abbott is out of the country leading an economic development mission in Asia —issued a severe weather disaster declaration for 40 counties in the state.

“Everyone along the coast should be paying attention to this storm.” Patrick said in a press briefing on Friday “We hope and pray for nothing more than a rain event…but we prepare the state for the worst case scenario”

The storm passed through the Cayman Islands on Thursday, and the Yucatán  Peninsula in Mexico on Friday.

It made landfall Friday morning in Tulum as a Category 2 hurricane, downing trees and poles. Beryl lost considerable strength over the Yucatán Peninsula, and was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm unloading heavy rain and gusty winds. According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm will likely re-strengthen into a hurricane as it moves into the Gulf of Mexico.

TOPSHOT-ENVIRONMENT-CARIBBEAN-WEATHER-HURRICANE-BERYL

On Wednesday, the storm pummeled the Southern coast of Jamaica, where it left thousands of people without electricity . The city of Kingston recorded wind speeds of nearly 50 m.p.h. for 12 hours straight between 1 p.m. local time on Wednesday and 1 a.m. local time on Thursday .

Beryl set records when it developed into a Category 5 hurricane earlier in the week. Its high wind speeds are indicative of an exceptionally aggressive start to the Atlantic hurricane season this year, which usually peaks between the months of August and October.

The hurricane has caused devastation while plowing through the Caribbean. “In half an hour, Carriacou was flattened,” Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said on Monday, as Beryl sustained winds of 150 m.p.h. Mitchell visited Carriacou and Petite Martinique in the aftermath of the hurricane’s “total” destruction, which has damaged or destroyed an estimated 98% of the Carriacou’s buildings, including its main health facility and airport.

Beryl becomes 'extremely dangerous' Category 4 hurricane expected to bring life-threatening conditions to Caribbean

Hurricane Beryl has become an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm as it inches closer to the Windward Islands, bringing life-threatening winds and storm surge to the Caribbean, the National Hurricane Center said Sunday.

Beryl expanded its strength for two days, reaching Category 4 strength on a scale of 5 on Sunday before leveling off, the center said in a late-afternoon advisory.

With sustained winds of 130 mph, the storm was likely to be a destructive force through the early week as it aimed for a possible clash with Mexico's Yucatán peninsula around next weekend, according to the hurricane center.

"Fluctuations in strength are common in major hurricanes in conducive environments, and it is expected that Beryl will also fluctuate in strength for the next day or so," the center said in a separate forecast discussion. "There is high confidence that Beryl will remain an extremely dangerous hurricane through landfall in the Windward Islands."

Its center is expected to move across the Windward Islands early Monday, with hurricane conditions, including heavy rain, expected Sunday evening, the agency said.

A strengthening Tropical Storm Beryl on NOAA satellite on Saturday morning.

The Windward Islands include St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Martinique. As of Sunday night, Beryl was about 200 miles southeast of Barbados with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph. It was moving northwest at around 18 mph.

A U.S. hurricane warning is in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Tobago, where hurricane conditions are possible starting early Monday.

The government of Barbados began opening emergency shelters Sunday evening and ordered all businesses to close by 7 p.m. The Barbados Water Authority asked residents to store potable water as it would shut down water lines across the island Sunday night as a precaution, according to a statement.

The Barbados government said the center of the hurricane would travel 75 to 80 miles south of Barbados sometime Monday morning.

Government forecasters said the hurricane could pulse with renewed strength as it passes beneath Barbados, with winds associated with the storm projected to reach near 145 mph.

Flash flooding and hurricane-force winds are likely, the government said. Barbados officials also warned of a low pressure system behind Beryl that could become a tropical depression and affect the country Wednesday if it continues apace.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Martinique, and tropical storm watches are in effect for Dominica and Trinidad, which could all experience tropical storm conditions Sunday night.

“Potentially catastrophic wind damage is expected where the eyewall of Beryl moves through portions of the Windward Islands, with the highest risk of the core in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada,” the hurricane center said.

Life-threatening storm surges may raise water levels by 6 to 9 feet above normal tide levels in the hurricane watch areas and bring destructive waves to the coast.

Three to 6 inches of rain is possible across Barbados and the Windward Islands on Sunday into Monday, which may cause flooding in some areas. Up to 10 inches of rain is possible in some areas, especially in the Grenadines.

St. Lucia Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre announced a national shutdown as a result of the hurricane warning that will go into effect Sunday 8:30 p.m. local time. He did not say when it will be lifted. Schools will remain closed Monday, and “employers are expected to cooperate,” he said.

In a Facebook post, the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority asked the public to “remain indoors and away from glass windows once tropical hurricane-force winds affect the area.”

“All persons should avoid entering the ocean. Failure to comply with this request puts human lives at risk, including those of our first responders,” the board said. The board also encouraged tourists to contact their airlines to schedule flights home.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has canceled all police leave in preparation for Beryl.

“All officers are requested to report to the nearest police station by 6:00 p.m. today, Sunday, June 30, 2024,” it s a id on Fa cebook .

In Grenada, a state of emergency will go into effect at 7 p.m. Sunday and remain for a week, “unless earlier revoked,” Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said at a briefing.

The country’s National Disaster Management Agency encouraged the public to secure three days of nonperishable food and water as Beryl makes impact. Those in areas susceptible to storm surge were encouraged to move to one of the shelters opened across Grenada.

Mitchell warned the public that “this is not a drill.”

“We need to be calm, we need to pray, but most importantly we need to prepare,” Mitchell said.

All police leave has also been canceled in Grenada, and officers were asked to return to work, according to Mitchell.
