Having conquered the world of technology in Gadget Man, acclaimed Director, Author and BAFTA-winning actor Richard Ayoade deserves a break. But there’s a problem; he hates going on holiday. For Richard, travel is boring and stressful and takes far too long. Surely there must be a way to make it more fun, more efficient, and less tedious? ‘Travel Man’ is Richard’s chance to show us where we’re going wrong by having the most culturally efficient holiday possible, with all the boring bits taken out.

X-Men '97: Season 1, Episode 4 - "Motendo/Lifedeath - Part 1" Review
Jubilee gets her game on and storm makes a powerful new friend..
Warning: This review contains full spoilers for X-Men ’ 97: Season 1, Episode 4.
Nostalgia continues to be the name of the game in X-Men ’97’s fourth episode. The series has quickly developed a winning formula by combining the visual style and vibe of the original X-Men: The Animated Series with the best X-Men comics of the ’80s. But Episode 4 adds another wrinkle to that formula by tapping into the lingering love for Konami’s X-Men arcade brawler. The result is another highly entertaining, if somewhat unfocused, installment of the series.
With “Motendo/Lifedeath - Part 1”, the writing team made the interesting choice to focus on two mini episodes, not unlike how Netflix handled The Sandman: Season 1’s bonus episode . Though, in this case, the intent may have been more to mirror how many Saturday morning cartoons are split into two halves. That approach was definitely the right move. While it certainly would have been possible to recut Episode 4 so that Storm and Jubilee’s respective storylines intertwined more organically, the tonal clash between them is so severe that it seems better to have that hard line separating the two. Jubilee’s lighthearted video game adventure doesn’t necessarily blend with the more emotionally raw exploration of Storm’s grief.
X-Men '97 Debut Trailer Images
That being said, there are drawbacks to the two-in-one approach. Namely, the “Lifedeath” portion of this episode feels a tad underdeveloped due to the limited runtime. This segment is directly adapting the critically acclaimed Uncanny X-Men #186 by Chris Claremont and Barry Windsor Smith. That issue is a highlight in Claremont’s long and hugely influential run, and it’s great to see X-Men ’97 pay such loving tribute to that story. It’s also one that gives a wonderful platform to Storm’s voice actress Alison Sealy-Smith. Sealy-Smith really shines here, capturing both Storm’s goddess side and the wounded, vulnerable woman she’s become.
But though this segment captures the tone of that story and the deep, instantaneous bond between Storm and Forge, there’s no getting around the fact that “Lifedeath” lasts fewer than 10 minutes before the credits begin rolling. This forces the segment to speedrun Storm and Forge’s relationship and Forge’s efforts to restore her powers. When Forge tells Storm he loves her, it’s simply too abrupt to feel like a properly earned moment. Episode 3 proved this series can get away with compressing and streamlining major storylines, but that was more a matter of trimming extraneous plot details. Lifedeath is a story built on emotion and introspection, and there’s little to be gained by speeding through the proceedings.
The good news is that this story isn’t done. The “Lifedeath” segment ends on a cliffhanger, and we know Episode 6 is titled “Lifedeath - Part 2.” Hopefully, that installment will have the opportunity to slow down and flesh out the relationship between these two lovers to a much greater degree.
And while “Lifedeath - Part 1” is a bit too rushed for its own good, “Motendo” feels just right by comparison. The X-Men ’97 team probably could have expanded this segment into a full-length episode; drag a few additional X-Men into the game and you can pad out the runtime. But it’s doubtful the story actually would have benefited from that approach. It would simply be a rehash of the original series’ Mojo material.
Instead, “Motendo” keeps things lean and mean by focusing solely on Jubilee and her reluctance to embrace adulthood. It’s a solid arc for a character who hadn’t had a great deal to do in the series until now. And it’s also one that allows her relationship with Sunspot to take a big leap forward.
Obviously, the biggest appeal with “Motendo” is the pixel-art animation and the way this segment recreates the look and feel of bashing 16-bit Sentinels in a ’90s arcade. Visually, this segment is a welcome change of pace. It’s even more colorful, and the music, sound effects, and pixelated characters are all 100% on-point. It’s great to see the series getting so experimental so soon out of the gate. Though, it must be said – Marvel missed a big opportunity here by not commissioning an actual, playable version of the game to release alongside the episode. The X-Men video game drought continues.
“Motendo/Lifedeath - Part 1” is a fun change of pace for X-Men ’97. The series experiments with its structure by delivering two mini-episodes rather than attempting to combine two wildly disparate storylines into one. That being said, “Motendo” is the more successful of the two segments. It makes the most of its lean runtime and boasts gorgeous video game-inspired animation. “Lifedeath,” though it pays loving tribute to a classic Uncanny X-Men comic, doesn’t have enough room to properly develop the relationship between Storm and Forge. This segment may have fared better as a full-length episode (which is the treatment part 2 is getting in a couple of weeks).

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs launches May 9
Full details on the 64-player multiplayer that lets you travel to and interact with other players’ mazes.
Pac-Man fans have been eating dots and chomping ghosts for years and there’s no sign that our collective appetites will be satiated any time soon.
But what happens when Pac-Man fans challenge each other to find out whose hunger reigns supreme? This is the question we can finally answer in the arena of competitive eating, offered by Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs coming to PS5 and PS4 with cross-play on May 9. Early access starts May 2 for those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition.
Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is an online-only 64-player Pac-Man game, played across just as many interconnected mazes. Eat everything in your own maze
The developer behind the title is Amber Studio, an incredibly diverse team with Pac-passion and excited by the challenge of bringing this gameplay to a wider audience.
In Chomp Champs, every choice made was geared towards bringing more players into the action. For example, a tutorial maze was added at the start of the game to help new players ramp up and get comfortable. Different game modes are included so that hard-core competitive players and casual fans can all find a mode to enjoy.
While there have already been multiplayer Pac-Man games where players compete to be the last Pac standing, what sets Chomp Champs apart is that you can directly travel to other mazes and interact with other players. There’s a variety of mazes like the Autumn maze, showing how Pac-Man’s world changes throughout the seasons, or you can feel some nostalgia with the Mr. Driller maze.
In each match there are 64 players, each with their own maze laid out in a grid connected to neighboring mazes by Mega Tunnels. When the tunnels open you can take the action to your neighbor which opens up a world of crazy gameplay possibilities.
As the match goes on, the lowest-scoring mazes get slowly eliminated from the playing field. The maze border flashes as a warning, so players know to get out of that maze before it’s too late. Each time a maze is eliminated the remaining mazes click together.
The development team even included a classic visual effect used here which is a tribute to the 256 glitch from the original Pac-Man arcade game. This lets you know that the board has changed, and you have a new neighboring maze to explore. As mazes get eliminated, players have fewer places to go, eventually bringing all remaining Pac-Man players together for the final showdown until only the Chomp Champ remains.
There are seven Power Items in Chomp Champs – some are straightforward easy-to-use boosters, while others will take some practice to truly master. Get more lives with an Extra Life or protect yourself with the Pac Shield. Use Speedy Pac for a burst of speed to escape danger or win the race to a Power Pellet. Use Ghost Attract strategically to set up a big ghost chomp combo or lure ghosts to other Pacs. Speedy Ghost can be a double-edged sword because it makes the ghosts faster for you and your opponents in the same maze. But if players combine it with other powerups they can keep safe while making opponents struggle in the chaos. These strategies are possible because you can hold up to two Power Items. Use them at the time of your choosing to turn the tables!
The customization system in Chomp Champs gives you so many ways to express your personality. You can select your home maze, your player icon, and your Pac-Man’s outfit to create a ton of unique combinations. You have several customizations available as soon as you load the game for the first time. But there’s more to be unlocked by redeeming Tokens earned in Elimination mode.
There are also six exclusive customization items available as part of our Chomp Challengers Pac pre-order bonus and more than 20 customization options available via the Deluxe Edition, including seven-days early access.
In playtests, we’ve seen players who love to eat their neighbor’s Power Pellets, steal their Power Items, or even eat their neighboring Pac-Man. Others team-up and help other players by eating ghosts and saving them from trouble! Some players just really enjoy showing off their cool customizations and funny reactions. We tried to give players as many ways as possible to express their Pac-Man personalities in the game.
Since mazes are interconnected players can explore the arena, visit or check out their neighbor and continue from there. Each match plays out a bit differently, so expect the unexpected in Chomp City!
