The Salon at PS

We live in a subscription-obsessed world and there’s a subscription for everything you can imagine, from razors to clothing and even hot sauces. Travel memberships are on the rise, providing new ways to ease some of the stress that comes with traveling these days and help make the journey more seamless.

Whether you’re willing to pay a premium for exclusive travel experiences that provide a little more privacy or you're more budget-conscious and want to find the best travel deals, there’s a membership for every type of traveler. Here are 10 travel memberships that are worth considering.

Wheels Up King Air 350i on runway

Wheels Up offers private jet charter memberships so travelers can access a fleet of aircrafts, including a King Air 350i, an 8-passenger Citation Excel/XLS, and one of the fastest aircrafts, the Citation X. Wheels Up uses a dynamic pricing model offering competitive rates, so members can book flights on-demand with the flexibility to pay as they go.

Additional m embership benefits include invites to signature events, President’s Circle status with Hertz, a complimentary trial of Inspirato Club subscription for 12 months (Core members only), certain perks at select Waldorf Astoria hotels across North America, a partnership with Delta SkyMiles, dedicated partnership rates with Porsche and more.

Membership cost: Three membership options are available – Connect, Core and Business. The Connect membership requires a one-time initiation fee of $2,995 and annual dues of $2,495 which begin on year two. The Core membership has an initiation fee of $17,500 and annual dues of $8,500 which begin on year two. The Business membership requires an initiation fee of $29,500 and $14,500 for subsequent years and includes up to six lead passengers.

A private suite at PS at LAX

Getting through airport security lines can be a drag, especially during holiday weekends and a pandemic that has increased the demand for more seclusion when traveling. PS (formerly known as Private Suite) is designed for first and business class travelers who are seeking privacy and convenience, allowing them to bypass LAX altogether.

Travelers check into a private terminal where they can relax in a fully-stocked luxury private suite that includes complimentary in-suite meals catered by h.wood Group , as well as additional services upon request such as in-suite massages, manicures and detailing services for personal cars. PS also provides a designated on-site TSA and Customs agent for expedited screening.

Upon boarding, travelers are transported across the tarmac directly to their aircraft in a BMW 7 Series sedan. Earlier this year, the Salon at PS launched, which features a new full-service lounge at the terminal for travelers who want the same benefits of PS but seek a more social experience.

Membership cost: Annual membership costs $4,500, which gives members access to a preferred rate of $3,250 for a one-way Suite experience for up to four travelers. The Salon is available to members and non-members for $695 per use per person.

Vail Grand View Great Room

Inspirato is a subscription-based luxury travel service that gives members exclusive access to over 150,000 luxury vacation homes and resorts around the world that are staffed by Inspirato. There are two membership types: Inspirato Club and Inspirato Pass. The former gives you access to the luxury residences and hotels around the world, on-site concierge and daily housekeeping with additional benefits such as late check-in and check-out, room upgrades, spa credits and more. However, members also pay nightly room rates.

With the Inspirato Pass, you automatically get the benefits of Inspirato Club plus nightly rates are already factored into the price of membership, so you can book as many vacations as possible in one month with one active reservation at a time. There is also no long-term commitment, so you can cancel the membership at any time.

Membership cost: Inspirato Club membership is $600/month plus a $600 enrollment fee and you pay nightly rates as you go. Inspirato Pass is a flat rate of $2,500/month which includes all hotel stays.

Scott’s Cheap Flights

Scott and Brian

A membership to Scott’s Cheap Flights includes flight deals and “Mistake Fares” accidentally published by airlines sent straight to your inbox. The team scours the internet for the lowest published airfare rates to popular destinations and shares them with members.

A membership to Scott’s Cheap Flights is best for travelers who have flexibility on the destination and dates and are willing to fly based on low airfare rates. Flight deals don’t last long so you’ll have to act fast.

Membership cost: There are three membership tiers including Limited which is free, Premium costs $49/year and Elite $199/year.

PRIOR was started by a former travel editor who saw a gap in the market for travelers wanting a more immersive experience during their vacation. A team of experienced travel editors and local tastemakers on the ground design itineraries for curious travelers.

A PRIOR WORLD membership includes access to curated destination guides, unique local experiences in cities around the world, pre-planned group trips led by experts and for an additional fee, the team can create a custom itinerary based on your interests.

Membership cost: PRIOR WORLD membership costs $249 per annum. PRIOR BESPOKE is $5,000 per annum.

Priority Pass

The Club MCO Lounge at Orlando International Airport, accessible via Priority Pass

Airport terminals may have come a long way in the last decade, but killing time for a three-hour layover in a crowded airport isn’t exactly on anyone’s list of things to do, especially on vacation. Trade the busy terminals for private lounge access with Priority Pass and enjoy guaranteed Wi-Fi and snacks.

Members of Priority Pass receive access to over 1,300 airport lounges globally, including several airline lounges such as Virgin Atlantic, Air France and Turkish Airlines. Several credit cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, American Express Platinum and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express offer free Priority Pass memberships as part of their member benefits.

Membership cost: Choose from three membership tiers which start at $99/year for the Standard membership plus $32 per visit and go up to $429/year for the Prestige membership which includes unlimited lounge visits.

CLEAR touchless identification

TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry are services that allow travelers to expedite the security screening process upon departure and arrival. With CLEAR Plus, enrolled members get escorted to the front of the security line once they’ve been verified using facial recognition or fingerprint scans, so they no longer have to verify identification at security. However, for expedited clearance through security screenings, TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry are still required.

CLEAR uses biometric identifiers to create a unique ID assigned to each member that is used for verification at stations across airports, stadiums and other major venues nationwide.

Membership cost: A CLEAR Plus membership is $179 per year. American Express Platinum Card Members receive a $179 statement credit and United MileagePlus members receive a discounted membership rate.

Meet the Exclusive Travel Club for People Who Have Been to 100 or More Countries

By emily petsko | jan 4, 2019.

iStock.com/PeopleImages

There are about 195 countries in the world—depending on how you define “country”—and most people have only visited a handful of them. However, for those with the means to travel far and wide, there’s one club that unites these wanderlust-stricken souls.

According to Lonely Planet , an exclusive organization called the Travelers’ Century Club only accepts members who have been to 100 or more countries and territories. The non-profit social club is headquartered in Los Angeles but has more than 20 chapters in the U.S., Canada, UK, Mediterranean, and Central Europe.

A few avid travelers founded the club back in 1954, and within six years it had attracted 43 members . Now, the club boasts about 1500 members, whose collective travels would put most casual vacationers to shame.

The club’s slogan is “World travel: the passport to peace through understanding,” and its mission falls in line with this ethos. Travelers’ Century Club board member Gloria McCoy tells Lonely Planet their members “seek to truly experience and appreciate the people and cultures around the world.”

By holding regular social events, inviting guest speakers, and offering presentations about different destinations, the club gives members the chance to learn about other parts of the world they might not have considered visiting. Members also have access to files containing “exclusive info” about far-flung and hard-to-visit destinations, all of which were written by club members who have personally been there and done that. Lastly, the club is a way for members to connect with like-minded people and perhaps even find new travel buddies.

The club’s official list of countries and territories visited totals 327. This is partly because it includes territories that aren’t always considered countries by the international community, such as Tibet, Taiwan, and Palestine. To join, members must fill out an application form and select the countries they’ve been to—even if they were just short trips or layovers. There's a $100 initiation fee, plus yearly dues.

If you aren't quite there yet, travelers who have been to 50 countries and territories can qualify as provisional members. This gives them access to meetings and some of the “bragging rights” that Travelers’ Century Club members get to enjoy.

Review: Best Vacation & Travel Clubs In The World

1. Hotels Etc.

Ritz-carlton destination club, the hideaways club.

Vacation and Travel Clubs are one of the big things to hit the travel market in recent years. Updating the traditional timeshare model, instead of being tied to a specific property, club members purchase points or pay a flat annual fee and this can be redeemed against different vacations each year. The huge bonus for luxury travellers is the clubs negotiate impressive discounts with hotels, resorts, attractions and excursions, so if you’d usually stay 4-star, with a Vacation Club chances are you’ll be able to afford to stay 5-star. The clubs vary hugely, read on for our tips of the Best Vacation and Travel Clubs.

With a network of more than 500,000 luxury hotels, condos, and resorts in over 141 countries, Hotels Etc . are an excellent choice for frequent travellers.

Established in 1996, their dedicated team has negotiated some of the biggest travel discounts on the internet available exclusively for their members. One of their key differentiators over some of the competitors is that they do not add commissions or fees to your bookings and instead pass all the savings directly to their members. Their goal is to help you travel the world for less, perfect for us luxury travellers who have certain standards which can be costly to maintain!

Hotels Etc. don’t sell travel, instead they negotiate discounts that they pass on solely to their members. Typically, you can expect to save up to 70% – and it’s not just accommodation either; theme parks, movies, restaurants, shows, concerts, tours, kayaking and excursions are all included and all are available at those excellent discounted rates.

They are a professional business who pride themselves on offering great customer service alongside their exceptional travel discounts. Their members tend to stick around for the long term and boast of discounts of 80%, of being able to stay in hotels that appeared to be sold out and of saving hundreds of pounds over the years. They also contest that they often beat corporate rates with Hotels Etc and so work well for business trips too. Top resorts include GrandView Resort, Las Vegas, Vacation Village at Parkway, Orlando and a variety of beautiful properties in Puerto Vallarta and Cancun in Mexico.

Several vacation clubs are run by a sole hotel or resort group. One of our favourites is the Ritz-Carlton Destination Club which offers privileged access to the world of The Ritz-Carlton and Marriot hotels. They run an equity-based points program and have residences in Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Aspen, Beaver Creek, Vail, Jupiter, Hawaii, Maui, Bahamas, and St Thomas.

Marketing themselves as a luxury destination club, Inspirato offer more than 900 vacation options. Pick from residences, hotels, resorts, cruises, yachts and custom experiences. Travel designers design your vacations and choose from membership options which include Key, Family and Executive.

The Hideaways Club have offices are in Europe but they operate worldwide, focusing on exclusive residences, so villas, chalets and apartments rather than hotels. They target high net worth individuals and operate a Concierge Service too.

Inside the Exclusive Club of Travelers Racing to Visit Every Country in the World

By Katherine LaGrave

Jessica Nabongo Sudan

Stamps. Coins. Countries. One of these things is not like the others, yet in 2019, all are collectibles, things taken out in the light, compared, and assigned some value.

In the past decade, the business of country-counting has boomed thanks to the internet, which made it easier to get visas and notoriety. Suddenly, ticking off countries was no longer limited to hard-core travelers or those with money to burn: people realized that publicity and social media prowess could help finance their trip. The field became more crowded.

As this subset of ultra-traveler has grown, so, too have the online communities: there are professional organizations and private Facebook groups dedicated to competitive travel, each with varying degrees of popularity, purpose, and adherents. But in large part, these communities are self-policed because there are so few common shared guidelines; no one group is the holder of universal standards for what "visiting" a country looks like. The different rules for different people belonging to different groups mean different qualifications when it comes to ticking countries off a list. What counts for one group may not count for another.

The Travelers' Century Club (TCC) , which started in 1954 as an organization for people who had visited 100 or more of the world's countries and territories, today has 327 countries and territories on its list, says TCC President JoAnn Schwartz. Most of the group’s nearly 1,500 members are “full” members, meaning they’ve visited between 100-149 countries. “For the most part, we operate on an honor system,” says Schwartz, noting that the group's range in travel interests and styles is huge. “However, every list submitted is reviewed, and sometimes we might ask a few questions,” she says.

Gunnar Garfors in Yemen

Country-counter Gunnar Garfors traveling in Yemen.

Most Traveled People (MTP) , which was founded in 2005, breaks the world down into 891 “places,” including countries, states, provinces, and island groups. Airport transfers do not count, nor does time in an airport lounge or “furtively dashing across a remote border area and back again,” but MTP has no minimum time requirement for a visit.

Nomad Mania , similarly, divides the world into 1,281 “regions,” including Russia’s New Siberian Islands and Spain’s Catalonia. “Nomad Mania is also the only platform that verifies advanced travelers’ claims meticulously so that their authenticity cannot be doubted,” says its founder, Harry Mitsidis. “While this takes time, I believe this has elevated our reputation as the true ‘quality’ site of its type; we are not aiming at a high number of members, but at an active, vibrant, involved, and quality-conscious community.” (Nomad Mania tests travelers' claims by choosing countries randomly, and then asking travelers to provide documentation for visits to those countries.) "We also insist on people really seeing something—just touching an airport, putting a foot across a line, or transiting by train doesn’t do it," he says.

Though Guinness is the official source for would-be travel record-holders, who have to submit documentation including passport stamps, GPS coordinates, and cell phone logs, they also allow airport transfers to count as “seeing” a country. Plus, the record book includes a number of uninhabited islands in its requirements, a move some in the community question: What do you really see and do there? How does going to an uninhabited island help you grow as a person?

Many travelers tell me that this question of what kind of visits “count” is one of the core issues in the country-counting community, whose closed-door forums and approved-access-only Facebook groups hide much of the member collaboration, but also the criticism and cattiness. Though the primary purpose of many of these groups is to function as forums for advice and general discussion around world travel, like many things online, the conversations can turn into a debate—and quickly.

“Some people can go to a country for two weeks and never sit and chat with a local person, and someone can go to a country for 48 hours and spend the entire time with a local family. Who learned more about the country? I don’t know, and I honestly don’t care. Because this idea of, ‘ You need to spend more time. ’ Well, how much time is enough?” says Jessica Nabongo, who is on her way to becoming the first black woman to visit every country in the world .

Norwegian traveler Gunnar Garfors —who is the first person to have visited every country in the world at least twice and has 10 travel-related world records—points out that most “regular” travelers have to account for time limits with their trips, too, be it exploring Paris for three days because that’s all the vacation they have remaining, or seeing Slovenia in 24 hours because a family member is getting married nearby. “I always prefer to have more time in a place than what I actually have, but we only live once,” he says. “There will always be a timeframe.”

But inside the country-counting community, where travel stardom is just a passport stamp (or 193) away, insiders say the line between competition and collaboration is, well, complicated.

“It’s not competitive, but it’s not kumbaya,” says Sal Lavallo, who is one of the youngest people to have visited every country in the world . Put another way? “Some people are helpful. But some people are assholes,” says Nabongo.

Several travelers in the community say the percentage breakdown between helping out and declining to do so often depends on bigger questions about where you're going and what you're attempting: though there are some elements that will always require an olive branch, like figuring out how to safely get into Syria and Yemen, the every-country-in-the-world record-breakers and check-listers working off of bigger lists tend to be more competitive, while those traveling for their own interest with a quantifiable goal are more likely to be collaborative. Schwartz says she sees it as 100 percent collaboration and 15 percent competition as a subset of that same group—an overlap, not a split. Mitsidis says he is "optimistic," and puts it at an 80-20 split for collaboration.

Another main point of tension in the community centers on the honor system it has operated on for so long. As a result, there can be confusion—and controversy—over who set a record first, especially if there’s no documentation, or there was no publicity. Much of this came to a head with traveler Cassie de Pecol, who holds two Guinness World Records for the fastest time to visit all sovereign countries and was the subject of much debate after being called the first woman to visit every country in the world in 2017 . (She's now widely referred to as the “first woman on record" to have visited every country in the world.)

De Pecol says that while she understands the backlash, for her, it comes down to one thing.

“For anyone to say they've traveled to every country in the world, that's all well and good, but if they're driven to be in history books and break world records, then they simply need the evidence,” she says. De Pecol points out that while this may have been more challenging to do so decades—even centuries—ago, there’s a reason we celebrate Amelia Earhart for being the first woman to fly across the Atlantic solo, and Nellie Bly for her 72-day trip around the world: they proved that they did it.

Still, de Pecol acknowledges that because the competitive travel landscape has changed so much in the past few decades, it's not just about recognition. Setting records can mean a windfall of media coverage, book deals, hundreds of thousands of social media followers, and the bestowal of a coveted "travel expert" label. Viewed this way, then, a little competition makes a lot of sense.

“In today’s day and age—where the more followers you have, the more branding deals and thus, the more financial security—there’s a real fight for survival within the travel community to be the most interesting traveler,” says de Pecol. “I always say, the world is very kind, but the internet can be a living hellhole.”

It’s a wariness of the backlash, controversy, and complications that pushes some travelers to choose more ambiguous language around their achievements. Lavallo, for example, who finished visiting every country right after his 27th birthday, says that though some people have told him he’s the youngest traveler to visit every country in the world, he prefers to say “one of the youngest” as he’s “not interested in stepping on toes.” Nabongo, for her part, instead went hyper-specific, styling her journey as the first black woman after hearing through the grapevine that a half-Kenyan man may have already beaten her to the "first black person to visit every country in the world" distinction.

Gender and racial parity—perhaps unsurprisingly—also play out in the comments of these closed-door communities.

Sal Lavallo

One of the youngest travelers to visit every country in the world, Sal Lavallo.

"People can be cruel, because they’re normal people,” says Lavallo, speaking about a subset of competitive travelers who criticize others for social media promotion and media coverage. “You have a group of people who had to pay a couple hundred thousand dollars to do something, and [the community] is going to be full of elitist, patriarchal misogynists," he says. Nabongo says she’s seen this manifest itself in responses to stories about her. “There’s a lot of, Who cares that you’re black? Who cares that you’re a woman? And I’m like, 'Yeah, you don’t get this, do you?' So I find myself pulling back a lot [in these communities]."

But just how many people in these communities have actually visited every country in the world? Depends on whom you ask. Mitsidis, widely considered one of the subset's most comprehensive record-keepers, says that based on research, word of mouth, and meetings, there is a record of 199 people who have visited every country in the world. He doubles the number to include those that don’t want attention, don't want to participate in the communities, or can’t be traced. That’s 400 people, then, throughout history—from the beginning of time.

“It’s not a very big number, is it?” says Mitsidis. “But it is growing by the week. When I completed every country in 2008, I think there were only about 20 of us or so.”

More, to be sure, are on the way: Lexie Alford has currently traveled to 191 countries, and has a goal of reaching 196 before her 21st birthday this year, which would make her the youngest person to travel to every sovereign nation.

At the end of the day, competitive travelers tell me, though there’s pride in having visited more places than your average bear, people are doing it for different reasons—and being in the public eye has taught them that outside of being respectful and recognizing privilege, there’s no wrong way to get around the globe. Got a goal to see every country before you’re 21? Go for it. Want to be the oldest woman to visit every country twice? More power to you. Looking to break one of Garfors's records? He'll happily congratulate you.

“We all have different ideas about what kind of travel is best, and everyone should just do what they personally enjoy and not worry about what others are doing,” says Schwartz of TCC. “If you are having amazing experiences exploring the world, you're doing it right.”

Countries & Territories

travel club in the world

Click to view the TCC countries and territories displayed on an   interactive Google map . Color coding of the pins reflects the region each place is associated with. Send any feedback on the pin map to [email protected] .

This is the Travelers’ Century Club®’s official list of countries and territories, a total of 330 as of January 2022. Although some are not actually countries in their own right, they have been included because they are removed from the parent country (see the  Territory Status  page for detailed criteria). After consideration as to how long one must have stayed in a country or territory to qualify, it was decided that even the shortest visit would suffice — even if only a port-of-call, or a plane fuel stop, provided that you disembark from your aircraft, ship, or vehicle and set foot in the territory. Naturally the Club prefers and encourages longer and more meaningful visits, but in situations where this is not possible for the traveler, this criterion greatly widens the field and will give the traveler a better chance to qualify for one of the most unusual clubs in the world. Anyone who has visited 100 or more of the places listed below is eligible to join.

Travelers' Century Club

Travelers aim to visit their 100th country, circumnavigate the globe in 2022

Have you been around the world? Visited more than 100 countries? Then congratulations: You're part of an exclusive travel club.

Ron Levin has done both. As a frequent air traveler, he spent years crisscrossing the globe, living in Madrid, London, Amsterdam and Barcelona before returning to the U.S. to work for a venture capital firm in Boston.

"I have had the travel bug for as long as I can remember," says Levin, 43. "I reached the 100-country mark when I was in my early 30s."

Norman Dailey is also a member, with more than 212 countries and 4 circumnavigations. It took 10 years to reach 100 and another 10 to reach 200. Among his favorite adventures: touring Lalibela churches in Ethiopia , ordering a beer at the highest pub in the world in Lesotho and swimming in Zambia's Devil's Pool .

"You go to places you would never think of," says Dailey, a retired government worker from Alexandria, Virginia.

What are the century and circumnavigator trophies?

These achievements – visiting 100 countries and traveling around the world – are the ultimate bragging rights for aspiring jet setters. Now, with the coronavirus pandemic finally starting to fade, people are thinking about their next trip – and they're thinking big.

By the way, there are actual clubs for people who have met these milestones. The Travelers' Century Club is for people who have visited 100 or more countries or territories. And the Circumnavigators Club is for travelers who have gone around the world.

But for most travelers, this isn't about becoming a member of a formal organization; it's about joining a fraternity of dedicated travelers.

► Latest CDC travel advisories:   Health agency says travelers should avoid Italy, Greenland, Mauritius

Melissa Smith has watched the rosters of these exclusive travel clubs swell in recent years, and she believes more growth lies ahead. From her vantage point as a matchmaker for virtual assistants and as a world traveler herself, she has seen more Americans loosen the shackles of 9-to-5 jobs and head out into the world, with no definite plans to return.

Smith says these newly minted global nomads need help, which has led to record demand for her services.

"For the first time we have a waiting list for placing virtual assistants," she says. "These are popular clubs."

Are you century club material?

Visiting 100 countries is the most popular achievement among travelers. The reason: You can take your time getting to the century mark instead of trying to make it around the world in one stretch.

Fred Cosentino, a retired psychologist from Berkeley, California, began tracking his countries when he started traveling in 1985.  He and his wife have reached 127 countries and territories, from the remote Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic to Antarctica.

"We love visiting new places, meeting the people, enjoying the culture, food and local sites," he says.

That pretty much sums up why people try to reach the 100-country mark. They do it because they enjoy traveling – and because they can.

Silvana Frappier is not only working toward her club membership, but as the owner of a luxury travel agency , she helps others do it. She says that to reach the century mark, you need to set goals and be flexible.

"You need to have a plan A, B and C – and be ready to change plans," she says. "Because plans will change."

How to travel around the world

To qualify for the circumnavigator designation, you have to cross all the meridians of longitude in one direction. In other words, no backtracking and finishing the trip later.

Ross Copas, an industrial electrician from Tweed, Canada, has been around the world four times with his wife, Jean. Their first was an around-the-world cruise he booked in 2007.

"We used that as a buffet – tasted a little bit of many places and decided which ones we would like to return to." And he did return, traveling by motorcycle through North America, Europe, New Zealand, South America and India. That was followed by yet another world cruise to discover new ports.

"That led to more new countries and more new opportunities," he says.

Jenny Brocious, an event planner from Atlanta, has circumnavigated the world 10 times. She says traveling around the world is surprisingly affordable – an around-the-world airline ticket costs about $2,000 – and she recommends it for almost anyone who has a sense of adventure.

"You can do a trip around the world on almost any budget," she says.

Another misconception: You don't have to sell everything you own and spend a year traveling. Brocious has made around-the-world trips in as little as two weeks. It's a hectic two weeks, but it's possible. You can spend only a few days, and sometimes a few hours, on the ground before moving on.

► Europe travel restrictions:   How to enjoy your trip and avoid the headaches

Should you join these clubs?

Reaching the 100-country mark or circling the globe isn't for everyone. For many travelers, it takes years to reach the country goal. And for others, it's too much time and money. But I have yet to find someone who regrets doing it.

When I started researching this story, I downloaded the list of countries and territories from the Travelers Century Club site to determine how many countries I'd visited. I hadn't formally tracked them in my three decades as a travel writer. Let's just say I fell short of the 100-country mark – embarrassingly short.

I'm about to remedy that. This month, I embark on a project that will take me around the world and to more than 100 countries. The world is starting to reopen after almost two long years of COVID-19, and there's only one way to write about it: I have to be there.

But really, you don't need a reason to embark on one of these adventures. Just go.

How to get to 100 countries

Find a pro. A travel adviser knows how to plan and execute a complicated itinerary. You can find one at the American Society of Travel Advisors site. "Everyone knows that something can and will always go wrong during travel," says Tracy Schatz, owner of Elite Travel Journeys . "It's nice to know that someone is there to help them when a little – or big – glitch affects their plans."

Get a second passport. If you have two American passports, a visa agency can process your application while you travel. "That way, waiting for your visa doesn't hinder your travel," says Janice Lintz, an around-the-world traveler. The State Department site has more information on how to get a second passport .

Take a shortcut. If patience is not your thing, don't worry. There's a faster way to join the club. A 14-day Caribbean cruise can take you to six countries; a world cruise can get you past the 30-country mark.  Steve Kuriga, a travel adviser with Cadence Travel in La Jolla, California, says his clients use an app like Been to record the countries they've visited. "Once they start tracking the countries, they are surprised at how many they have already visited."

Is Sam's Club Travel Actually Cheaper? 3 Real Itineraries Put to the Test

O ur favorite wholesale clubs aren't just great for your budget on everyday goods. Costco and Sam's Club both offer their own travel portals where you can get discounted travel.

However, Sam's Club Travel differs from Costco Travel quite a lot. Instead of booking travel packages, you book pieces of your trip individually. Also, Sam's Club Travel doesn't include flights, but it does include many attractions, including theme parks and even shows.

Featured offer: save money while you pay off debt with one of these top-rated balance transfer credit cards

To put Sam's Club Travel to the test, I researched three destinations and Sam's Clubs offerings for them. I then looked up the same hotels, rental cars, and attractions to compare real-world prices. Here's what I found.

Attractions

There was a very limited array of attractions available for Vancouver, none of which were available during my test itinerary. Sam's Club Travel does include tickets to various sporting events -- the Canucks are in the NHL playoffs as of writing -- so presumably you could find those during the regular season. If the typical discounts applied, this could be a nice way to score cheaper hockey tickets. Your mileage may vary.

Saves money, but not the best interface

All in all, I can definitely say that Sam's Club Travel saves you money. It's not always a lot of money, but savings is savings, eh?

One big annoyance I want to point out is that the interface for the site is junk. It's hard to navigate. It's very hard to find what you need. Fees are tucked into fine print everywhere (hotel resort fees particularly).

Perhaps the most egregious issue was the lack of a map option when searching for hotels. You may need to look up hotels in your location through Google Maps (or a similar site) and then look those hotels up in Sam's Club Travel for deals.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you won't get your typical travel perks . You won't get hotel status points, and your booking may not code as travel on your credit cards . If you can get past the drawbacks, however, there is a lot of potential for saving money on travel with Sam's Club.
