Tour Operators Society of Kenya (TOSK)

Tour Operators Society of Kenya (TOSK) is a business membership organization of Small medium enterprises and startups Tour Operators that was established in 2015. Founded out of the need to bring together associated tourism enterprises in an incubation hub for nurturing tour operators to offer quality products and services to both domestic and inbound tourists. 3Es Experience Organisation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Tour Operator Society of Kenya (TOSK) in 2020. The objective of the MOU is to deliver different projects on Environmental Conservation, Wildlife protection, schools mentorship and improvement of livelihoods especially to communities who live around Tourist attraction sites and National Parks.

Tour Operators Society of Kenya   ("TOSK") is a trade association that represents the interests of the Kenyan SME and MSME Tour operators. They are committed to promote and market Kenya as a destination of choice for both inbound and domestic tourists, however, majority of their members have specialized in promotion and marketing of the domestic tourism market. 

TOSK was formed out of the need to have an Association that offers a holistic framework for Advocacy while also enabling its members to derive maximum value through their seven pillars;  

• Promotion and Marketing.  
• Sustainable Tourism.  
• Capacity building.  
• Support of Conservation for both Flora and Fauna.  
• Building Tourism Business Partnerships  
• Responsible business

In the framework of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, the Tour Operators Society of Kenya commits to:

Sensitizing both domestic and international tourists to embrace No Single Plastic use in their parks and game reserves. They will endeavor to roll out plastic free campaigns and information materials to the public and also encourage community participation in every event geared toward eradicating single use of plastic. 

Advising and guiding affiliated organisations and businesses or partners to better manage plastics in their operations. A sustainable tourism committee was set to lead this campaign and TOSK will partner and cooperate with government enforcement agencies like NEMA, Ministry of Environment and NGOs through provision of workshops, seminars and webinars. 

Documenting and releasing quarterly journals about the successes achieved with the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative which will be shared to both tourism stakeholders, tourists, academic institution and the public. 

Publicly reporting annually on progress of the implementation of its own commitment to the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative.

About Kenya

Kenya is one of the world’s most popular tourism destinations attracting millions of tourists over the past years due to its extraordinary number of safari options, beautiful beaches, rich culture, striking geographical diversity and archeological sites

Kenya is an all year round safari destination. A country in East Africa with a coastline on the Indian Ocean. It encompasses savannah, Lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. Wildlife is abundant including the big 5 and known for its annual wildebeest migration. From Nairobi, the capital city, safaris visit to the various National Parks and reserves, history, different cultures and white sand beaches, each day will offer you a different and new experience.

Visa requirements

The Government of Kenya has introduced an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to replace the current EVisa for entry to Kenya.

The ETA will be applied online at https://www.etakenya.go.ke/ at $30 per person for a single entry and will be mandatory for all foreign visitors travelling to Kenya (including children and infants) except for Citizens of the EIGHT EAC member states.

Vaccinations

We recommend seeking advice from your local agent/health practitioner on the appropriate vaccinations you may need. Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if travelling from any yellow fever-endemic country.

Dry season: January-March and July-October

Rainy/wet Season: April- Early June and November – December

The best time to travel is July-October and also when the great migration takes place. Wild life is also easier to spot during the dry season.

Plugs & Voltage

The standard voltage in Kenya is 240 volts with a standard frequency of 50Hz and the associated plug type is G. This is the 3 pin rectangular pin.

Plastic bag ban

A ban on use of plastic carrier bags came into effect in 2017. Visitors to Kenya are advised to avoid packing plastic carrier bags in their luggage.

Kenya tends to be quite secure for tourists especially within the tourist circuits. You do however need to observe the basic precautions i.e. avoid walking in dark/isolated areas at night, do not wear flashy jewellery, avoid carrying valuables around, etc.

Parks & Reserves

Kenya has a total of over 30 National Parks and Reserves, including Marine Parks. These are supplemented by private sanctuaries and game ranches which form about 10 per cent of Kenya’s surface area. The most popular Parks & Reserves are Maasai Mara, Samburu, Tsavo, Amboseli, and Lake Nakuru.

Akwaaba Travel Market in collaboration with Ghana Tourism Authority is set to host the 7th Accra Weizo West African Travel Expo.

The expo seeks to grow seamless travel in West Africa, reinforcing the need to encourage West Africans to travel within the region, making West Africa an open domestic market, to harness the market and opportunities within, which is the aim of Accra Weizo.

This year’s edition is a four-nation road trip that will take delegates through Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana on the 24th of June and end with a Conference and Exhibition on the 28th at Accra City Hotel.

About 20 tour and travel professionals from Nigeria will be joined at the Seme border by 15 Tour Operators from Ghana, Benin and Togo. Other exciting activities will include, Night Life, Boat Cruise, B2B Networking, Balafon Award of Excellence and Exhibitions. Delegates will also be treated to a welcome Cocktail by Kempinksi Hotel. These group of West African operators will enjoy Benin on the 24th, Togo on the 25th and Akosombo, Ghana on the 26th. The group will arrive Accra on the 27th for Accra Weizo on the 28th. They will be joined at Akosombo by Tour Operators from Kenya and other nations. The event is also supported by GOTA Voyages Benin, Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), ABC Transport, Accra City Hotel and Royal Senchi Resorts and powered by Akwaaba African Travel Market and ATQ
