Sci-fi lovers we have some excellent news. Seattle will be the next home of Star Trek: Mission, the official Star Trek convention series. Starting next year, you’ll be able to attend a convention unlike any you’ve experienced before.
Star Trek: Mission Seattle will take place at the Washington State Convention Center on May 26th-28th, 2023. The convention is described as an event where fans can “explore the past, present and future of Star Trek while embracing the ideals of a diverse and inclusive future that remains at the center of Gene Roddenberry’s beloved universe.”

It’s a fan experience that’s loaded with “celebrity guests, exclusive merchandise and exciting announcements that can only be offered at Star Trek: Missions.” What’s more the event is being produced by ReedPop, the company behind the annual New York Comic Con and C2E2 events as well as PAX. So you know you’ll be in good hands.
Now, we know many of you may be jumping at the bit to get tickets but you’ll have to wait a tad bit longer. The tickets will go on sale in June after ReedPop announces exhibitors and more plans for the convention. As for ticket pricing, Chicago tickets ranged from $65-$750 so it’s safe to assume that the Seattle convention will have similar prices.
In the meantime you can check out Star Trek: Mission’s Instagram for an idea of what to expect at next year’s event. Enjoy and live long, and prosper.

Star Trek: Mission Seattle 2023 Convention Cancelled
| November 17, 2022 | By: Anthony Pascale 33 comments so far
Star Trek: Mission Seattle, which was to be ReedPop’s second official Star Trek convention in the USA after taking over the official license, has been cancelled.
No Seattle 2023
On the last day of Star Trek: Mission Chicago in April, Reed Pop announced their next convention was going to be held in Seattle, Washington on Memorial Day Weekend in 2023. Since that first announcement, ReedPop hadn’t added any updates to the official site or via the Star Trek Mission social media accounts until today, when they made the following announcement:
After careful consideration, unfortunately the decision has been made to not move forward with the Star Trek Mission Seattle event in 2023. We are working on new ways to bring our favorite Trek fans the optimum experience, and we look forward to celebrating together again in the future.
TrekMovie has confirmed that ReedPop continues to hold the license for Star Trek conventions in the USA, and they will share more information on future events when that is available. This is no indication of when or where their next Star Trek convention will be held.
ReedPop hadn’t started selling tickets for the event, so there is no need to issue refunds; however, fans who booked travel for the weekend will have to deal with those cancellations.
Lower Decks star Tawny Newsome singing at Star Trek: Mission Chicago 2022
Today’s announcement follows news that this year’s Destination Star Trek event in London will be the final con for Massive Events, who held the official license for Star Trek conventions in Europe. As of now Star Trek: The Cruise IV sailing to Mexico out of the Port of Los Angeles next February is the only officially licensed Star Trek event set for 2023.
Creation Entertainment has announced the 57-Year Mission event in Las Vegas for the first weekend of August 2023, which is an unofficial Star Trek-focused convention with a number of Trek celebrities already lined up. The same is true for the annual FedCon in Bonn, Germany with the next event set for the last weekend of May 2023.
TrekMovie will continue to monitor this evolving story and will offer any updates when we have more information.

Next Official Star Trek: Mission Convention Set For Seattle In May 2023
I’m glad that FedCon and Las Vegas are the only events I have planned to go in 2023 (and they both feel much more like fan-oriented events than e.g. Chicago did this year). Interestingly, FedCon 2023 is exactly on the same weekend that Seattle would have been on.
Can you explain what you mean that Chicago wasn’t fan-oriented? I’ve been to Creation Vegas 4 times (last time in 2018), and really loved it. Wasn’t able to do Chicago. What did they do that made it feel less fan-oriented?
Typical…cancel a convention before it’s scheduled to start.
Perhaps ReedPop should re-consider their licensing of Star Trek conventions.
Well, would you have preferred they cancel it during the convention? Lol
Good point, brother.
Chicago was under-attended it seemed. (though COVID played a role in that)
I was amazed at how few people were there!
I only went on Friday in Chicago and had a decent time, but it was pretty poor overall.
It was their fault. They fucked up the website so there were barely any vendors there. The vendor half empty. You couldn’t even buy tickets for a long time.
Because those of us living on the west coast had significant cost and family commitment issues traveling to this on a freaking holiday weekend. Duh! This was like the Trek convention equivalent of moving the Beyond premiere to coincide with the Summer Olympics…lol
Pick a better weekend next time, or admit you are not on your A game with planning these and let Creation do more regional conventions again please.
CREATION — with ReedPop bailing out, please look at bringing back the SF convention next year! The SFO Hyatt is my all time fav Trek convention location, and it’s not 105 degrees outside and there aren’t MAGA types all over the place. (-: Thanks!
Let’s Make Star Trek Las Vegas “Official” Again!
I agree 100%. Hopefully the license with ReedPop has some kind of clause so that CBS/Paramount can cancel and give to someone else.
Well, living in Seattle, I’m disappointed that an official ST event won’t be happening here. But it appears that ReedPop isn’t up to the task of handling the license for official ST events. Give it back to Creation. I went to their events for many years, and while they had their issues, they were generally reliable and well run.
It’s simple – it’s hard to make money at these events. Booking the talent and venue is a great majority of their cost, and while cons are great, it’s not like there are thousands eager (and willing) to attend a Star Trek con these days.
No it’s not. Creation did this just fine with a profit for decades (and they had fan volunteers supporting them). What happened was the studio (that same studio that auctions off every freaking thing from any series for cash) wanted a larger cut, and hence picked a different events firm who would try to do this cheaper to give the studio more $$.. and those numbers of course aren’t working out, of course.
You really don’t know anything about the inner workings of conventions and why CBS/Paramount wanted to go with a different company for an official con. You could not be more incorrect in your assumptions.
But I will say that at least Creation has a multi-decade run Trek themed convention, and ReedPop continues to shit the bed. It boggles my mind that they run Star Wars Celebrations without issue, but can’t seem to get a handle on Star Trek.
Star Trek licensing has generally been more misses than hits.
Hard to explain more than five decades of poor decisions but it really makes one wonder what the impediments really are. It’s got to internal organization culture or something.
Books (and the publisher is part of the same conglomerate) have been the one niche of licenced products that has been consistent done well.
But CreationCons were another. I miss their relatively small regional cons of the 90s. They had fewer actors, EPs and production staff per event compared to the annual mega events like ST:LV, but they were more affordable, more spontaneous and a great live entertainment experience.
ComicCons are attracting tens of thousands at events across North America, it sounds like there could be a financial model for some smaller regional cons again.
LOL, first, I have both volunteered and been on been on the committee that has run sf conventions, dude. So I know what goes on in the back room, the financing, pickup up the guests from the airport, etc. etc.
Secondly, of course I am ASSUMING what CBS/Paramount did here. But why wouldn’t anyone in their right mind assume that a studio that is willing to sell every single of piece of extra series props for $, and which is separating the movies to get more cash instead of putting them on P+ — why should I not assume that they did this to increase their $ versus what they were getting out of the Creation agreement? Ocaam’s Razor applies!
this comment is a perfect example of someone not knowing what they are actually talking about. but that’s usually the case with volunteers who think they know how things ” Really work”
I love how are you and the “other” ;-) dude here just throw out “ you don’t know what you were talking about,” without providing a shred of counter information?
So OK, Mensa, please explain why I am likely incorrect? And by the way I’ve been on the organizing committee on some conventions and not just a volunteer, and I take issue with you putting words in my mouth that suggest otherwise when you know I specifically mentioned that in my post.
I looked at Chicago and the cost of travel and hotel were way too high. When they announced Seattle I thought that would be better, but no they picked a holiday weekend so again the travel and hotel was way too high. They have been putting on conventions for some time they should be better at this. Creation has always had their issues but they have managed to put on a convention without many major issues for decades. STLV is affordable for most it just seems that we will continue to meet up there till there is a better option.
Called this months ago. Reedpop is incompetent and inept. Paramount never shouldve trusted them with the license. Hopefully they rectify that blunder.
Hey Paramount – don’t “f” with Creation – the definitive Trek con promoter
After how poorly the first NY version seemed to go this isn’t surprising to me.
It took this cluster-F for fans to appreciate Creation. For years, I went to their very nice regional conventions, including my fav ones in SF, and their last big regional one in NJ last year, and so many spoiled fans would complain that they weren’t fan friendly enough and that Creation was money gouging them.
Well, now we’ve seen alternative, so LESSON EF’IN LEARNED.
Bring back Creation and their great people who know how to do Star Trek!
The fact that Reedpop has canceled their planned Star Trek convention does not make any of the criticism against Creation that you mention any less valid. And even if Reedpop put up a bad show that does not make any of the criticism against Creation that you mention any less valid. Basically, it’s no excuse for company A to be bad just because there is a company B that’s bad as well (or even worse). That’s a false argument.
Except I never thought “company A” was bad — I always thought Creation did a great job and never agreed with the subset to Trek fans who whined like little babies that they were money gouging (they weren’t, the actors we love to see are more expensive to bring in than most fans would think).
I would say the vast majority of my best convention experiences were at Creation cons.
So it’s not a false argument — in fact, it should be a learning experience to chill out and appreciate a pretty good thing when you have, because it might go away someday. Perfection is not walking through that door anytime soon…lol
Well, and other people have a different opinion of Creation. You like the company, other people don’t. They don’t need to like or appreciate Creation just because another company is even worse.
We were at the STLV held at Bally’s. It was good but the venue was not conducive to what was done in the past. Smaller theaters, smaller vendor room, smaller hallways and you had to take an elevator from Casino level to the 26th floor to get to D Kelly theater and Roddenberry stage. Despite that, we had a great time, so many of the hotel staff, stopped us to get photos with us in our costumes. They never have seen any convention quite like this. But we did hear that the Windy City was not well attended. Our friends who did go, said it lacked what Creations has done, not the same vibe. It does not matter how you feel about Creations, they do know how to handle Trek. Reedpop may do Star Wars well, but past performance is no indication of future performance when doing something new. CBS/Paramount have their reasons for switching to Reedpop, whatever they are, its none of our business. Perhaps CBS can renegotiate something with Creations if these Reedpops do not succeed. When we speak to the some of the Trek actors, they love going to Las Vegas. It will be great to be back at the Rio next year. It will be interesting to see the renovations Rio has done.
Well, no movie now for 6 years (and counting). Streaming TV shows that can’t possibly draw the audience or visibility of the classic broadcast and syndicated shows. An aging fanbase. So it’s no surprise at all that this has happened.
This might be signaling something that has been foreseen by a number of people. Not saying it is or isn’t myself. Only that is feels like a start.
Star Trek: Mission Convention going to Seattle in 2023
By chad porto | apr 11, 2022.
Star Trek: Mission Chicago was a success but what’s on deck for 2023?
Star Trek: Mission Chicago is in the books but what’s the plan for 2023? Well by all accounts the next Mission will be to Seattle, where the 2023 Star Trek: Mission event is set to take place. The event will be ran once again by ReedPop, who took over the convention for 2022.
According to TrekMovie.com , ReedPop will take the Star Trek: Mission franchise to Seattle next year, at the Washington State Convention Center. The dates will be May 26, 27, and 28. More of the same that happened in 2022 at Star Trek: Mission Chicago should be expected, with stars of Trek popping up for meet and greets, as well as panels for fans to watch.
And if this years’ event were any indication, new games, shows, and the like may be announced at the event next year. ReedPop promised that the Chicago event was the ultimate destination, and they’re promising that again in 2023 for the Seattle show.
Tickets for the Seattle Mission will go on sale in June, apparently and you’ll be able to see the initial guest list for the event starting then. The plan is to do this every year in a new city, so Star Trek may be coming to your city soon.
Star Trek: Mission Convention may become Trek’s Comic-Con
We’re seeing some titanic shifts as of late. E3, the largest video game conference for decades, has seemingly closed its doors once and for all. This is mostly due to the major consoles no longer using that platform and instead hosting their own events.
The same thing is going to happen to the Comic-Con brand to an extent; while they won’t go out of business, the center focus of the San Diego event being this huge catch-all for “nerd-culture” will no longer be the case.
More and more franchises are likely to host their own events and Star Trek could very well use the Mission franchise as its own version of that.

Star Trek Mission: Seattle convention canceled by Paramount and ReedPop
The official Star Trek convention pulls back on a plan to make this an annual event
The Star Trek Mission Seattle pop culture convention has been canceled.
The event, an official Star Trek convention from Paramount in partnership with ReedPop (Popverse's parent company), was to take place May 26 - 28, 2023 in Seattle, Washington.
"After careful consideration, unfortunately the decision has been made to not move forward with the Star Trek: Mission Seattle event in 2023," reads a joint statement from Paramount and ReedPop provided to Popverse. "We are working on new ways to bring our favorite Trek fans the optimum experience, and we look forward to celebrating together again in the future."
Going by the wording of that statement, it appears that Paramount and ReedPop are working on future Star Trek conventions - but not 2023's Star Trek: Mission Seattle.
When Star Trek: Mission Seattle was announced in the final hours of 2022's Star Trek: Mission Chicago, ReedPop described the 2022 Chicago event as "successful." There was an announced plan for Seattle ticket sales and guest announcements to begin in June 2022. Tickets did not go on-sale however, leading to unanswered questions from fans on social media platforms.
The Star Trek Mission convention series was launched by ReedPop in 2016 with Star Trek Mission New York, followed by the second convention in 2022, Star Trek: Mission Chicago. Star Trek: Mission Seattle was to be the third convention.
This news comes as Star Trek has its largest armada of shows in simultaneous production ever, ranging from the live-action Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Discovery, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to the animated Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Lower Decks. On the movie side however, years of plans for a return to the theaters seems stymied as the fourth film in the Kevlin timeline was removed from the schedule earlier this year , and plans for other Star Trek films from the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Noah Hawley, Kalinda Vasquez, and Nicholas Meyer seem at a standstill.
Keep track of all the upcoming pop culture shows with Popverse's comic convention schedule .

All the Star Trek shows and movies coming in 2023 and beyond
By tiara starks | may 25, 2023.
Trekkies have a lot to be thankful for this year as the Star Trek franchise we all know and love shows no signs of slowing down!
As of now, there are four series in production within the entire franchise. Before streaming took over in the mid 2010s, there were only five broadcast series on air including The Original Series , The Next Generation , Deep Space Nine , Voyager , and Enterprise . Now, with so many additions, both animated and live-action, it seems almost impossible to keep track of what to watch next, but you’ve come to the right place.
If you’ve been wondering when and where you can watch the current and upcoming seasons of Star Trek series and learn what anticipated films are set to be made, read on to find out!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
The most recently released live-action series in the franchise received positive reviews and has already been ordered for a third season ahead of its second season release. Strange New Worlds is set a decade before the events of the original series in the 23rd century and offers up a contemporary take on the original series’ episodic storytelling and 1960s design choices.
The main cast includes Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Bruce Horak, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One. The second season will premiere on Paramount+ on June 15 .
Star Trek: Lower Decks
The adult animated series takes place in the late 24th century in the Star Trek universe, in which Earth is part of the multi-species United Federation of Planets and focuses on Starfleet’s least important starships, the USS Cerritos.
The main cast includes Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, Eugene Cordero, Dawnn Lewis, and Jerry O’Connell. Even though the fourth season has yet to premiere, a fifth season was ordered in March 2023 and is already in development. Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on the streaming service Paramount+ in Summer 2023 with a 10-episode run.

"It's a dream come true": Rome Odunze talks about epic journey to the 2024 NFL Draft
From early rome odunze days to the nfl draft..
It's Week 4 of the 2023 college football season. The No. 8 Washington Huskies are up 38-12 over Pac-12 foe Cal on a chilly Seattle night. Late in the first half, Washington's top receiver, Rome Odunze , is split wide to the left.
Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. takes the snap and Odunze beats press coverage immediately, racing up the seam. Penix Jr. knows where he wants to go but sees a safety lurking in Odunze's way. He launches a deep pass to the corner, away from the safety but also away from Odunze's original path, forcing a tight-window throw.
In a split second Odunze looks back at the ball, adjusts his route, and looks back again in time to secure the pass for a touchdown - a sight Huskies fans saw 13 times over the course of the season.
"That was one of my favorite plays from the season," Odunze said, crediting teammate Jalen McMillan with helping develop his elite ball-tracking abilities. "You have to be ready for that moment and retain the focus through a route adjustment to make the catch."
It's plays like that on the field - and the man Odunze is off of it - that make him one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. That potential began in Utah more than a decade ago.

Rome Odunze's journey from Utah to Seattle
Odunze, named after the Roman Empire thanks to his father's love of history, was born in Orem, Utah. At age 3, his parents moved to Las Vegas. Even with the distance, Odunze made the trek back to Provo, Utah to spend summers with Wayne and Helen Bunnell, his maternal grandparents, at their farm.
"I remember the four-wheelers, I remember the cows, the hay, the barn, the tractors," Odunze recalled with ESPN . "Also the hard work."
Odunze made the varsity team at high school football powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School mid-way through his freshman year. He earned All-State honors as a junior as Bishop Gorman won a state title in 2018.
'Is this real?': After unique football path, Qwan'tez Stiggers on verge of NFL draft dream
Odunze credits Wayne's work ethic providing for the family as a model for success.
"My family, my mother, my pops, where I come from, we're all hardworking and determined people with tenacity," Odunze said. "It was naturally instilled in me as a young man and continues to be instilled in me to this day."
Success kept coming for Odunze on the football field. Bishop Gorman fell short in the title game in 2019 but Odunze earned Gatorade Nevada High School Player of the Year honors.
His outstanding play on the field complemented his stellar work off of it. Odunze was a 3.47 GPA student and a volunteer with charities including the Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and the Special Olympics.
In August 2016, Wayne went out for a bicycle ride as he did often after a day of work on the farm. But this time he crashed and went over his handlebars, suffering a traumatic brain injury in the process.
He's legally blind and never got to see Odunze shine on the field for the Huskies. Instead, Helen watches diligently and fills him in on every catch.

Building a winner in Seattle
In the Huskies' 2020 recruiting class, Odunze wasn't even the top-ranked receiver. That honor went to McMillan, a four-star wide receiver out of Fresno, Calif.
During his second year in Seattle, Washington fired coach Jimmy Lake after video showed him shoving linebacker Ruperake Fuavai during a loss to Oregon. As a highly touted recruit, Odunze could've entered the transfer portal and looked elsewhere.
"I had already made my mind up that I wanted to leave the place better than I found it," Odunze said. "I felt like there was so much still to accomplish. When the new staff came in and we talked about their offense, they talked about [Penix Jr.] coming in, I knew it could be something special."
He stayed as the Huskies hired new head coach Kalen DeBoer and the results on the field were immediate. Odunze made a leap and led the conference with 1,145 receiving yards and eight total touchdowns.
"The offense allowed for a lot of plays to be made by the receivers," Odunze said. "I had the skillset, I had the talent, just putting more work in through the offseason and I grew as a player... the offense started to allow me and all my brothers to eat."
During that breakout season, he took a day in December with teammates McMillan, Bralen Trice , Troy Fautanu , and Alphonzo Tuputala to wrap gifts for underprivileged children with The Forgotten Children's Fund .
That community work continued ahead of his third season, too. During Dawg Derby , a charity event put on in July by the University of Washington that pairs players and fans for a fishing tournament on Puget Sound, Odunze's foundation donated $5,000 to the Tulalip Boys & Girls Club .

Odunze's record-breaking 2023 season
After earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2022, Odunze earned a new title before the first kickoff of 2023: team captain.
"It's one of the biggest honors I've ever received," he said. "That's something I hold closer to my heart than a lot of awards that I've received and that's because it's voted on by the team. For those boys to see me as a leader, as someone they want to captain the team, to lead them out into battle every game, I felt very blessed."
His third season in Seattle was a record-breaking one. Odunze's 1,640 yards in 2023 broke the program's single-season record by nearly 200 yards. All of this while playing through a fractured rib and a collapsed lung suffered late in Washington's 31-24 win over Arizona .
This is the same man who played for two weeks of his sophomore season in high school with a broken collarbone . He'd miss no playing time for the Huskies who were gearing up for a showdown with Oregon.
“That dude was already worried about what he could do to get better and be ready for Oregon," Washington's head trainer Daren Nystrom told Christian Caple of On Montlake . “He did not make a big deal of it. If you didn’t know what was going on, you wouldn’t have known. You couldn’t tell by looking at him.”
Odunze kept playing and Washington kept winning. A win over Oregon in the final Pac-12 championship game ensured a spot in the College Football Playoff.
"I've been winning championships playing football for a long time," Odunze said. "Finally, to get my first Pac-12 championship with my brothers, it was a four-year journey. When we finally did and we could relish in the moment, that's something that I'll never forget."
After winning the Sugar Bowl over Texas , Odunze was the last player on the field at the Superdome. He was signing autographs for any kid who wanted one.
Though the Huskies lost the College Football Playoff national championship game, Odunze's proud of building one of the most successful teams in program history. His impact didn't go unnoticed by key figures in the program, either.
“Just over and over again, think about how many times he’s come through when you really needed it," DeBoer, now at Alabama , told reporters . "A lot of times you think about when you lose football games or you didn’t come through in the big moment. You remember those. I can’t remember Rome not coming through.”
2024 NFL draft rankings: Caleb Williams, Marvin Harrison Jr. lead top 50 players
Rome Odunze's draft potential
You don't have to look far to find praise from scouts and analysts about Odunze. He put on a show at the scouting combine while other top prospects sat out, including staying later than any other prospect to get the time he wanted in the three-cone drill.
That drive - in addition to his talent and production - is grabbing plenty of attention.
NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah said Odunze is his favorite player in the draft in a media call. An NFL scout told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman Odunze is the safest guy of the top tier receivers and "he's built right to last and run routes." A wide receiver coach also raved about Odunze's football IQ. NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein compared Odunze to future NFL Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald .
In most other years, Odunze's production, athleticism, and character make him the top wide receiver in a draft class. But Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. and LSU's Malik Nabers are a pair of other top prospects at the position.
"I think [Harrison Jr.] is a tremendous wide receiver," Odunze said leading up to the draft . "He has a Hall of Fame father who has installed that in him... he kind of emulates that in his own game."
Regardless of how you rank the top receivers, Odunze is a near-lock for the top 10. USA Today's latest mock drafts have Odunze going No. 9 overall to the Chicago Bears and No. 10 overall to the New York Jets .
He's one of the few prospects invited to Detroit to be at the NFL Combine live. When he hears his name called, it'll be the culmination of more than a decade of work that sprouted from a family farm in Provo.
"It's a dream come true," Odunze said. "It's something I've been chasing since I was six years old... and I think my family's even more excited than I am."
Marvin Harrison Jr. Q&A: Ohio State WR talks NFL draft uncertainty, New Balance deal
Following Odunze's rookie season
Fans of the franchise that drafts Odunze can look forward to a standout weapon in the passing game. Advanced metrics from Reception Perception show he stands out even at the top of the draft class at route success rate.
"I'm going to work," Odunze said. "I'm a young guy coming into a team, an organization that's been there for many years with many players going through so I'm just going to play my part and put the work in it."
He's also keen to do more than just produce on the field. Odunze noted in a recent interview on This Is Football that his locker room presence and leadership will be an emphasis early on.
"My involvement in the community as well, I feel, is second to none," he added.
He's working with Verizon this year to take fans through his experience. Verizon's following Odunze as well as Texas wide receiver Adonai "AD" Mitchell as they transition from college to the NFL in a series titled "Call to Pro," similar to the annual "Hard Knocks" documentary program .
The first part of Odunze's series will feature him making the call back home to tell Wayne and the rest of his family where he'll be playing professional football.
"He won't be able to make it to the draft because of his condition," Odunze said. "So Verizon hooked me up and that'll be the first person I call to let them know that I've been drafted."
That first part of the series will be released Friday with Odunze's social media platforms.
"I'm sure there'll be so many people I'll be connecting with," Odunze said. "The whole NFL experience is an incredible journey so they'll be right there along the way."

Review: Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 5 “Mirrors”
Star Trek: Discovery picks up immediately where “ Face the Strange ” left off, as our protagonists track their quarry’s ship to a hidden, interdimensional pocket of space that holds a few surprises for them and the audience.
Thanks to some sciencing from Paul Stamets ( Anthony Rapp ) and Sylvia Tilly ( Mary Wiseman ), Captain Michael Burnham ( Sonequa Martin-Green ) has a way to find where Moll ( Eve Harlow ) and L’ak ( Elias Toufexis ) are. Apparently, there’s a wormhole hiding in plain sight near where Discovery lost track of the criminals’ warp signature.
This wormhole is too small for a Crossfield- class ship to fit through, so Burnham and Cleveland Booker ( David Ajala ) – the latter of whom is on a mission to rehabilitate Moll, if possible – take a shuttle and see what’s on the other side of the wormhole’s aperture. Find a surprise, they do indeed, as the I.S.S. Enterprise , the evil version of the heroic Starfleet ship, is nestled in the wormhole – albeit without its crew, which apparently evacuated the vessel at some point. It’s beaten to hell and serves as a refuge for Moll and L’ak, whose own ship was destroyed by the interdimensional pocket of space’s destructive environment.
Discovery writers sure can be sneaky! They’ve been foreshadowing the appearance of a Constitution -class for the last two episodes; remember when Gen Rhys ( Patrick Kwok-Choon ) and Commander Rayner ( Callum Keith Rennie ) both remarked the Connie was their favorite ship? As we’ll see, this isn’t the last bit of foreshadowing that comes true in this episode.
“How did it end up in interdimensional space?” “I don’t know. Must be one hell of a story.” – Book and Burnham upon seeing the I.S.S. Enterprise
Astute viewers will recognize an often-used cost-saving measure in the annals of Star Trek history: the reuse of sets from another concurrent show. (Seriously, rewatch TNG , DS9 , and Voyager and you’ll be surprised how often props and sets are reused between those shows.) As Burnham and Book explore various halls and rooms, including the bridge and sickbay, the familiar surroundings seen in Strange New Worlds are subtly transformed by Mirror Universe iconography. While nods to the iconic starship Enterprise are always appreciated, our initial reaction to this surprise location—admittedly tinged with pessimism—is that it’s of course it’s the Enterprise . A practical move, perhaps, to keep expenses in check. By Grabthar’s hammer… what a savings.
Finding the ship deserted sure is strange, and Burnham and Book ascertain Moll and L’ak are in sickbay, presumably with the next clue in the Progenitor puzzle. But first, the pair check out the transporter room, which holds some strange items, such as blankets, children’s toys, and a locket that holds a picture of two people, which Burnham inexplicably decides to take with her. Moreover, the dedication plaque of the I.S.S Enterprise tells the story of the ship and its crew: the Terran Universe emperor seemingly tried to make changes to the way things were done in that evil universe, and the Enterprise escaped and picked up refugees who were trying to flee the Terran Universe and enter the Prime Universe.
One of the leaders among those on the Enterprise was a Kelpien, who Burnham deduces must have been the Mirror Universe version of Saru, and that the crew must have fled the Enterprise once it got stuck in the interdimensional pocket of space. Is it just us, or does this sound like a potential episode of Strange New Worlds ?
Burnham, Book, Moll, and L’ak face off in sickbay, where Burnham makes a startling connection between L’ak and a particular dilemma he is facing. The criminal pair hope to use the Progenitor treasure to clear L’ak’s Breen blood bounty. Yes, L’ak is Breen, that enigmatic and masked species from Deep Space Nine . Neato!
The rest of the episode bounces between what’s happening on the Enterprise , and flashing back to how Moll and L’ak first met and became romantically involved. Moll, the courier, would do business on the Breen space station on which L’ak, a member of a royal Breen family, was posted. The two connected over L’ak’s recent demotion and efforts to fight the embarrassment that came with it.
Over some time, the two became nearly inseparable, and L’ak even took the bold step with Moll by showing her his face – a big deal in Breen culture, as keeping their masks on allows them to retain their true, semi-transparent form, and not the solidified appearance we’ve seen on L’ak. Their relationship is tested when L’ak’s superior (and uncle), Primarch Ruhn ( Tony Nappo ) decides to interrupt their courtship. L’ak doesn’t take kindly to being asked to kill Moll, so the Breen turns on his own people, earns a Breen blood bounty, and flees with Moll. The pair now share a goal: earn enough latinum to retire on an (unnamed) fabled planet somewhere in the Gamma Quadrant, free from the trials and hardships of the courier life.
Suffice it to say, “Mirrors” is most memorable because it casts a welcome light on the shadowed backstory of this season’s main villains. Moll and L’ak are now a relatable pair, star-crossed lovers who are hell-bent on earning themselves a happy ending. As much as we don’t want to see the Progenitors’ tech get into the wrong hands, who now doesn’t want to see everything work out for Moll and L’ak?
Anyway, the quartet still need to get off the Enterprise , but the shuttle on which Burnham and Book arrived is destroyed by the turbulent pocket of space. With mere minutes to spare before the Enterprise is destroyed by the wormhole’s tiny aperture, Book and Moll share some last-minute words about their shared relationship with the late Cleveland Booker, and how Book hopes Moll makes the right choices regarding her quest for the Progenitor tech. Burnham, meanwhile, engages in a melee with L’ak, and the Breen ends up injured and inadvertently relinquishes control to Burnham of the next map piece in the Progenitor puzzle. The courier and disgraced Breen end up escaping the ship in a convenient Terran warp pod, leaving the chase between our heroes and enemies for another day.
“If we hit it precisely with a sequential hexagonal pattern, it should stay open for approximately sixty seconds. But once it collapses, it’s gone for good.” “Why hexagonal?” “Doesn’t matter… it’ll work.” – Adira ( Blu del Barrio ), Rayner, and Stamets as the crew finds a way to get the wormhole aperture bigger. We think this line from Stamets is reflective of the evolving working relationship between the results-orientated Rayner and the crew, and how this relationship is getting better the longer Rayner is first officer.
Burnham devises a novel way to signal her first officer for help in getting the Enterprise through the aperture: a pulsing tractor beam emitting from the Enterprise , shot through the wormhole’s opening, in a numerical sequence featured in a famous play from Kellerun culture. Rayner is then able to lead his crew to devise a way to pull the Enterprise into normal space.
The sequence where Rayner is faced with command of a ship tasked with the near-impossible rescue of his captain is the best of the episode. It’s no secret Rayner was knocked down a few pegs after his demotion and reassignment to Discovery , but that lack of confidence and inner angst is demolished thanks to Rayner listening and working with his bridge crew to save the Enterprise . Plenty of lesser-known bridge officers get a say in how Discovery could help the Mirror ship, and lightning-fast decision-making shows Rayner back on his game.
The last element to note about this episode is some emotional trouble Doctor Hugh Culber ( Wilson Cruz ) is having. Tilly provides an outlet for this angst. Culber explains the experiences he’s had in the last few years – namely dying, coming back to life, and being a Trill host – really put into perspective the intellectual journey he is on in the face of the Progenitor’s quest. Tilly helps him realize he isn’t only experiencing an intellectual quest, but a spiritual one. This conversation is just another instance of Discovery setting up some wild expectations for what the crew might ultimately discover at the end of the season – something beyond the bounds of science, perhaps?
Even though their prey gets away again, Burnham and her crew have the next clue in the Progenitor puzzle, and it is hiding in the I.S.S. Enterprise ’s sickbay. Hidden in the map piece Burnham grabbed from L’ak is a vial, which Stamets will analyze soon. Burnham learns the crew who escaped from the I.S.S. Enterprise ended up in the Prime Universe and were able to start new lives. A Terran scientist aboard the Enterprise , Dr. Cho, ended up being a branch admiral, and we’re meant to assume she was one of the scientists on Dr. Vellek’s team hundreds of years ago as they studied the Progenitor tech. Dr. Cho then hid her piece of the Progenitor puzzle aboard her old ship as a symbolic gesture of her ability to find freedom in a new universe.
Discovery continues its final season with another thumbs-up episode that serves an important lore-building role in the franchise. Seeing the Breen again is a joy, especially since we were staring at one the whole time and never knew it. And how striking was that Breen space station where L’ak was based? Another important note for Star Trek historians is that now the Mirror Universe Enterprise is in the 32 nd century, and stationed near Earth thanks to Joann Owosekun and Keyla Detmer piloting the ship back to Federation space. Will we see that ship again this season?
As the Progenitor puzzle deepens, so do the emotional stakes for our crew, exemplified by Culber’s introspective journey, the subtle reignition of Book and Burnham’s relationship, and Rayner’s triumphant return to leadership. We’re now at the halfway point in this season, so there’s still plenty of time for surprises, emotional consequences, and expectation-setting for this eagerly awaited treasure.
Stray Thoughts:
- Hopefully, you’re watching this episode with subtitles on, because goodness is it hard to hear what masked Breen says.
- The Mirror Universe version of the U.S.S. Enterprise was last seen in the Original Series episode “Mirror, Mirror,” albeit this wasn’t the Strange New Worlds version of the ship. Likewise, the Terran version of Spock, whom Booker asks if Burnham ever met, was in that same episode.
- How did Adira conclude they were the one who brought the time bug aboard Discovery ?
- Why didn’t Burnham and Book try talking down Moll and L’ak before diving into the room with the holo-projected doubles?

Billie Eilish Unveils ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft' World Tour Dates
Billie Eilish's third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, is just under three weeks away from being released. The singer and songwriter - and current Rolling Stone cover star - has made clear that she won't be releasing any singles from the record in advance, but she has announced an extensive global arena tour in support of the release.
The Hit Me Hard and Soft tour will mark Eilish's first return to the road since the conclusion of the Happier Than Ever world tour, which ran for 88 shows from February 2022 through April 2023. This new run of shows will include 81 stops across North America, Australia, and Europe beginning in September 2024 and wrapping in July 2025.
Eilish will begin the tour in Québec on Sept. 29 and perform in Toronto, Philadelphia, Nashville, Cincinnati, Denver, Seattle, Chicago, and more on the North American leg. Multiple venues on the trek will host the musician for more than one night, including New York's Madison Square Garden and Inglewood's Kia Forum, where she's set to perform for three nights in a row in October and December, respectively.
The Australian leg will begin in February 2025, with stops in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney. From there, Eilish will head over to Europe in April 2025 for performances in Stockholm, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, London, Dublin, and more.
General sale for the Hit Me Hard and Soft tour will begin on Friday, May 3 via the official Billie Eilish website . The sale will include any tickets remaining following the conclusion of multiple pre-sales, most of which will begin on Tuesday, April 30.
The North American tour leg, in particular, will feature the use of Ticketmaster's Face Value Exchange, which allows fans to resell their tickets to other people for the original price they paid in an effort to discourage price-gouging resellers. "To help protect the Exchange, the tour has requested all tickets be mobile only and restricted from transfer," a press release notes. "This applies to all shows except those in Colorado, Illinois, and New York where Face Value Exchange cannot be mandated."
The tour will also implement environmental sustainability practices at the request of Eilish. "I have never had an interest in being a role model, ever," she told Rolling Stone . "If you're going to think I'm a role model, think I'm a role model in terms of trying to save the environment, and being more conscious of the way that you live, and your carbon footprint, and your contribution to animal agriculture."
