When you are buying baby boy clothing or baby girl clothing for new parents or someone’s baby registry, know that they usually get most of their clothing in newborn or 0-3M sizes. Giraffe’s nibble turns into airborne safari adventure for Texas toddler

GLEN ROSE, Texas (AP) — A Texas family got a brief scare when a nibble from a giraffe turned a 2-year-old’s safari visit into an airborne adventure.

Paisley Toten was in the bed of a pickup truck on June 1 when her family drove through the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, where visitors can see exotic animals such as zebras, giraffes and sable antelope, and feed some of them from their car.

The family had stopped to feed a giraffe when it grabbed Paisley’s shirt with its mouth and lifted her several feet. Paisley’s mother was in the pickup bed with her and shouted, prompting the giraffe to drop the toddler into her arms unhurt. Video of the encounter taken from the car behind went viral. The girl’s family also shot their own video.

“Paisley was holding the bag and the giraffe went to go get the bag, not get her, but ended up getting her shirt too and picking her up,” Jason Toten, the girl’s father, told television station KWTX.

“My heart stopped, my stomach dropped … it scared me,” Toten said.

The family then took the girl to the shop and bought her a toy giraffe.

Park rules when the family visited allowed riding in an open truck bed as long as an adult was riding with any children. The park on Thursday changed its safety rules to require everyone to stay inside their vehicles with doors closed.

Giraffe Lifts Texas Toddler Out of Car at Drive-Thru Safari in Viral Video

A giraffe lifted a Texas toddler out of a car at a drive-through safari, a viral video shows.

The video shows the large giraffe reaching down into the vehicle and briefly lifting up the child, identified by ABC News as Paisley Toten, 2,

According to Today, the incident occurred at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas, and the child was not injured.

“You want to feed the giraffe,” the mother said in video before the giraffe lifted the child up.

The Giraffe Was ‘Looking for a Snack,’ Reports Say

The animal was “looking for a snack,” according to Today. The wildlife center told Today that an “incident like this” had never happened before at the site and stressed the center was “taking immediate action to make sure it won’t happen again.”

The girl and her family went to the gift shop where the girl got a toy giraffe after the encounter, Today reported, adding that the giraffe lifted the girl several feet into the air.

The wildlife center’s website warns, “Toss the pellets on the ground and away from your vehicle. Only giraffes can be fed by hand. This is for your safety, as animals besides giraffe can bite.”

The Girl’s Mother Spoke Out About Critics on Facebook

Sierra Robert, the girl’s mom, has shared her thoughts on the incident on her Facebook page. “Let me make something very clear. Anything can happen anytime and anywhere,” she wrote. “Had we gone to the park that day instead (aka outside) she could have been bitten by a snake. Snakes are everywhere this time of year and yet noone would have called me a bad mom for taking my child to the park to play where there would potentially be snakes.”

The mother’s post says:

Had I taken my daughter to the another fun child establishment, on the way there we could have gotten in a wreck. Noone would have called me a bad mom or ridiculed me for putting her in the car because we could have potentially wrecked. There are always dangers in the world, no matter where you go, or what you do. I refuse to teach my child to be afraid of her own shadow because she could possibly be hurt by something out of her control. I had personally never visited a safari so when I saw that you could ride in the bed of your truck, I assumed that it would be perfectly safe since the park allowed it. With that being said we do not blame the park or the giraffe for what happened. And I still will NOT shelter my child from experiencing the world. I dont starve my child. I don’t beat my child. I dont neglect my child in any way. I simply wanted to experience something I thought would have been a fun memory with her and the unexpected happened. Growing up I rode in the back of the truck all the time. Trick or treating in town. At the lake driving back to our cabin. Down to a friends house who didn’t live to far. And soooo many others have done the same. Im sure even some of you who are acting like your perfect have done something similar. At the end of the day, god knows the kind of parents we are. Your opinions have no relevance to us, but I pray yall wake up and see that being bitter and scared of anything that could possibly hurt you is going to cause you to live a very boring life and you only have so many days on this earth. So god bless and I’ll be praying y’all someday grow into decent humans who don’t mom shame or belittle people to make you feel better about yourself. God bless 🫶🏻

A toddler had a close encounter with an animal at a drive-thru safari in Texas over the weekend.

Two-year-old Paisley Toten was riding in the back of a pickup truck with her mom, feeding all the animals, when one giraffe accidentally grabbed her shirt and lifted Paisley into the air.

Jason Toten, Paisley's dad, recalled the moment the giraffe picked up his daughter, which was caught on video by a car behind them.

"We stopped to feed the giraffes and I turned around to look out the back window, and I saw the giraffe kind of digging around right there, and then it just grabbed her and I didn't see her no more," Jason Toten said.

Toten said that it was a complete accident and that Paisley did not get too high up before the giraffe dropped her.

"Paisley was holding the bag like this, and the giraffe went to go get the bag not get her but ended up getting her shirt too and picking her up," Toten said.

When Paisley fell her mom was right there to catch her so no one was hurt, but it was still a scary moment.

"My heart stopped, my stomach dropped it scared me," Toten said.

After the incident, Toten said they went to the gift shop where Paisley got a toy giraffe.

Dramatic footage captured on a safari ride in Texas shows the moment a giraffe grabbed a young girl who was offering it food on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

GLEN ROSE, Texas – A startling incident occurred on a Texas safari tour when a giraffe unexpectedly grabbed a young girl from a truck bed as she attempted to feed it.

Lindsey Merriman captured a dramatic video on Saturday while she and her family were at the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose . They witnessed the incident unfold a few cars ahead.

"My daughter was recording a giraffe eating out of people’s hands and dipping its head in sunroofs," she said. "We were three cars behind a red truck and saw the giraffe accidentally grab a little girl’s shirt along with the food and lift her from the bed of the truck."

Merriman's video depicts the child being placed in an adult's arms. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the child was a 2-year-old girl. 

According to the toddler's father, he believed the giraffe was aiming for the food in his daughter’s hand but grabbed her shirt instead, the newspaper reported.

No one was injured, according to local reports.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center told FOX Weather that the incident was first reported to them on Monday. 

"The safety of our guests and animals is always of utmost importance to us," said Warren Lewis, chief marketing officer for Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. "Although an incident like this has never occurred here previously, we are taking immediate action to make sure it won't happen again. 

Effective immediately, Fossil Rim said they will no longer permit guests to ride through the park in truck beds. 

"Fossil Rim offers a variety of experiences guided by knowledgeable staff so guests can continue to have up-close and memorable animal encounters and support our mission to save threatened and endangered species," Lewis added.

FOX Weather contacted the child's parents for comment but has not yet received a response.

A woman suffered a tragic accident in Mexico that ended with her losing her life -- this while trying to capture a photo while a train passed ... which ended up hitting and killing her.

As documented in new harrowing footage that's making the rounds ... a 29-year-old woman in Hidalgo, Mexico recently approached a railway track to take a selfie as the CPKC's Final Spike Steam Tour train plowed ahead at full speed.

While the train blasted its horn near the gathering fans -- who came together to witness the train on its famous journey from Canada to Mexico City, a major attraction for locals -- the woman didn't move far enough out of the way ... and she was struck straight in the head.

The woman instantly fell forward and went limp, clearly unconscious ... with bystanders immediately rushing to her aid -- but unfortunately, the damage had been done.

Reports say first responders who arrived at the scene pronounced her dead. Her family was reportedly with her at the train track in Hidalgo.

CPKC has confirmed an investigation is underway, adding in a statement ... "We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and wish to express our condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones."

They add, "For their own safety and that of the crews, all spectators looking at any train must always remain at least 10 meters back from the train and the tracks. Spectators must never stand on railway tracks, try to board rail equipment or climb on rail infrastructure.

Finally, CPKC said ... "Always use caution around tracks and trains." A cautionary tale, indeed.

GLEN ROSE, Texas (WABC) -- A dramatic video captured by a mother on a safari ride in Texas shows the moment a giraffe grabbed her toddler out of a pickup truck and lifted her into the air.

Lindsey Merriman told Storyful that her family was visiting the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose when they witnessed the incident a few cars ahead.

"We were 3 cars behind a red truck and saw the Giraffe accidentally grab a little girl's shirt along with the food and lift her from the bed of the truck," she told Storyful.

The child's father also told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the 2-year-old was feeding the giraffe when it accidentally grabbed her shirt along with the food and lifted her from the bed of the truck.

"My heart stopped, my stomach dropped it scared me," Jason Toten, the child's father told KWTX.

The video then shows the child being lifted into the air and then dropped into an adult's arms.

"We stopped to feed the giraffes and I turned around to look out the back window, and I saw the giraffe kind of digging around right there, and then it just grabbed her and I didn't see her no more," Toten, told KWTX.

Over the weekend, the family visited Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, where the visitors are allowed to drive themselves through a path to get a closer look at the wildlife and feed them.

Paisley Toten, 2, was sitting at the back of her family's truck with her mom when she was feeding the giraffe before the animal grabbed her by the shirt and lifted her into the air.

The moment was caught on camera by the mom and the visitors in the car behind them.

Paisley's dad, Jason Toten, told ABC News his daughter was eventually released by the giraffe and did not suffer any injuries.

According to the rules on the center's website , during the drive through, "Only giraffes can be fed by hand. This is for your safety, as animals besides giraffe [ s ] can bite."

ABC News has reached out to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center for comment and has not heard back immediately.

'My heart stopped': Giraffe picks up toddler during a family trip to Texas wildlife center

A Texas family had quite the scare at the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center on Saturday, when a giraffe picked up a toddler.

The Toten family says they were feeding a giraffe from the bed of their pickup truck when the animal accidentally grabbed 2-year-old Paisley's shirt.

Paisley's mom was sitting in the truck bed with her while she fed the giraffe from a brown paper bag. While attempting to get more of the food, the animal accidentally grabbed Paisley's shirt and lifted her into the air.

In a video taken by the mother, you can hear Paisley's mom yell before the camera swings wildly as she leans forward to catch Paisley. The giraffe quickly dropped Paisley back into her mother's arms.

Paisley's father, Jason Toten, saw what happened from the driver's seat while looking out the back window. He says the grab was clearly accidental and that the family did not break any rules.

“Paisley was holding the bag and the giraffe went to go get the bag, not get her, but ended up getting her shirt too and picking her up,” the father told KWTX .

No one was hurt, but Jason Toten describes the brief moment of panic during the incident.

“My heart stopped, my stomach dropped… it scared me.”

Little Paisley ended up getting a toy giraffe from the gift shop because she "deserved it," according to the father.

Despite the incident, the Toten family says they enjoyed the visit to Fossil Rim and plan to return sometime.

Toten family followed wildlife center's rules

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is a nonprofit conservation center near Glen Rose, Texas. It features a drive-through safari, where various animals roam free along the path.

Families are encouraged to ride in their own vehicles for a self-guided drive through 7.2 miles of Texas hill country, according to the center's website . Visitors are also allowed to feed the giraffes as they pass through the area, as long as they're fed by hand.

The website also granted visitors permission to sit in the bed of trucks, as long as at least one adult is also in the bed. However, as of June 6, "guests are no longer permitted to ride in the bed of pickup trucks," the website states.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
