Best Small Towns for Romantic Getaways in Washington State

Boats on the water in La Conner, one of the most romantic getaways in Washington state.

Recommended by Alanna of Periodic Adventures The charming, seaside town of La Conner is a fantastic romantic getaway destination. It is especially great for couples who need some relaxing time together. The easiest way to get to La Conner is to fly into Seattle and drive up to the town. Specifically, you’ll drive north on the 5 then cut west around Conway until you reach La Conner.

anniversary trip ideas washington state

In town, some of the best things to do are explore the small shops ( handmade. la conner is a favorite!), check out the Museum of Northwest Art and the Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiber Museum , and go antiquing. In spring, specifically April, couples will enjoy the tulips that take over Washington in the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival that La Conner is part of. The tulip farms are the perfect place for a romantic couples photoshoot.

Where to Stay: La Conner Channel Lodge Who It’s Good For: Couples who want to relax Best Time of Year to Visit: Spring

A couple looking out over the rolling hills of Walla Walla, one of the most romantic getaways in Washington state.

Recommended by Sarah of All About Glamping If your vision of romantic getaways in Washington state include small-town charm with cozy accommodations, sipping wine while overlooking rolling hills of vineyards and dining in award-winning boutique restaurants, then Walla Walla, Washington is calling. Located in the southeastern corner of the state, Walla Walla is the heart of Washington wine country. It is just a 4-hour drive from both Seattle and Portland, Oregon. If flying is your preference, Alaska Airlines provides service from Seattle to Walla Walla Regional Airport in 40 minutes. Walla Walla is home to more than 130 wineries, most of which are open for public tastings. They are accessible by car or tour . If you arrive without a car, there are also over 30 tasting rooms in town which you can walk to. The historic downtown is full of many great restaurants, shops, breweries and art galleries. So there is plenty to explore before retiring to your romantic guest house or hotel room. If you’re looking for something uniquely romantic there are some amazing stays nearby at luxury glamping sites .

Where to Stay: For comfort, charm and easy access to everything in downtown Walla Walla, stay at the historic Marcus Whitman Hotel . Just outside of town, the Eritage Resort offers luxury suites with gorgeous views of the Blue Mountains. Who it’s Good For: Walla Walla is perfect for couples wanting a romantic getaway who enjoy wine and quaint small-town vibes. Best Time of Year to Visit: Walla Walla is a year-round destination. But spring and fall are the best times to visit. The vineyards come to life in the spring with the vines sprouting new leaves and the promise of fruit to come. Fall is harvest and crushing season and Walla Walla is an exciting place to be.

Recommended by Jessica of Next Up Adventure Port Angeles is a beautiful city along the Juan De Fuca Strait, the closest city to Olympic National Park. Because of its location nestled in the rainforest, it is particularly cozy and romantic during the wet winter months. But also the perfect romantic getaway in Washington year round. There are plenty of delicious restaurants and cafes, shops, and outdoor exploring very close by. Port Angeles is located on the north west coast of Washington and is easily accessible via car, bus, and ferry.  Although there are no airports in Port Angeles you can fly in Victoria, Canada and take a direct ferry. Or fly into Seattle. Most people find they do like having a car to explore the Olympic Peninsula. One of my favorite things to do on a romantic getaway in Port Angeles is to check out Soak On The Sound . It’s a luxurious soaking & sauna experience with private Salt-water soaking tubs & private saunas. Another must-do while in Port Angeles is to explore Olympic National Park. You can  go on a short, but beautiful hike to Sol Duc Falls . Or a longer adventure to Olympic Hot Springs , which is great to experience by bike. For a romantic sunset, make the drive up to Hurricane Ridge! Take a sunrise kayaking tour and paddle among sea lions and marine life. Then head out for breakfast at one of many cafes in town like First Street Haven !

Where to Stay: Hidden Haven Cottages , nestled in a forest setting with waterfalls and hundred year old trees. These luxury cottages are 5 miles from Olympic National Park, many of the rooms have private jacuzzi tubs. Who it’s good for: Part of the allure of Port Angeles is that there is something for all types of travelers. With such close access to Olympic National Park outdoor enthusiasts will love Port Angeles! However, there are endless activities for the less outdoorsy couples. Best Time of Year to Visit: My unpopular opinion is that this is a year round destination! In the summer months, there will be significantly less rainfall, which means swimming, water sports, and lounging at the beach. In the winter, AKA rainy season, the rainforest will be lush and green, and the hot springs and hot tubs will feel SO good.

Want to get 30% off an AllTrails+ membership ? Use our code aplusk30 (you must redeem this code on the website, not the app)! We use AllTrails+ on every single hike and it is the most helpful hiking tool out there! Some of the features we love are offline maps (so we can navigate even without cell service), wrong-turn alerts, and its 3D maps feature, so we can get a feel for trails before we hike.

Recommended by Yesenia of The Sisters Who Voyage Want a European-like escape in Washington? Head to Leavenworth! Snuggled in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, this cute Bavarian-style town is the ultimate romantic escape for outdoorsy couples in Washington, with many nearby scenic hikes. A few good hikes, like Alpine Lookout and Colchuck Lake , are great for advanced hikers. Or if you are looking for a more relaxed walk, Icicle Gorge is a great option. After you’ve had your fill of outdoorsy things, you can relax and look for unique souvenirs for each other. Like matching ornaments and delicious cheese from the Cheesemongers shop. If you’re a fan of wine, then going on a wine tour is perfect. You and your partner can learn more about Leavenworth’s history and try tasty wines.

One last thing you’ll want to do as a couple if you love wine and German food is head to München Haus and grab their famous Glühwein. Make sure to pair it with their delicious German Sausages or a Bavarian Pretzel!  If you’re heading to Leavenworth from Seattle, it’s about a 2.5-hour drive through US Highway 2. However, you can also take the Amtrak train from Seattle. Which may be more accessible due to the difficulty with parking.

Where To Stay: Bavarian Lodge Who It’s Good For: Outdoorsy couples Best Time of Year to Visit: Leavenworth is a great year-round destination, with each season offering something different. The winter season brings an extra magic to the town, as it’s decorated with lights and holiday decor. In the fall, you can partake in Leavenworth’s Oktoberfest. While the summer is the best time to enjoy the area’s hike and sunnier weather.

Recommended by Taylor of Culture Craving Couple Yakima, nestled in the heart of Washington state, is an ideal spot for a romantic getaway because it’s an amazing blend of natural beauty, wine, and delicious food. The area is covered with sprawling vineyards and gorgeous mountains. And the adorable towns are heavily focused on wine, but in a relaxed way. You get delicious wine like in Napa Valley, but with a chill vibe and cheaper prices! Some of the best things to do in Yakima are to go on an organized wine tour or beer tour, if that is more your thing. For the outdoorsy couple, the nearby mountains make for a beautiful and romantic morning hike . And the Yakima Farmers Market or Johnson Orchards is a great place to stroll hand in hand and taste the farm-fresh produce that makes Yakima so delicious! To end your day, enjoy a romantic dinner at Crafted . Accessible by car, it’s a scenic drive from Seattle, taking approximately 2.5 hours via I-90 E and I-82 S.

Where to stay: VanArnam Vineyards Cottage Who it’s good for: Foodies and wine lovers Best time of year to visit: Spring will provide much cooler weather, but to experience the area’s amazing fruit, you’ll want to visit in the summer.

Kerry Park | Free and Cheap things to do in Seattle

Recommended by Lisa of Waves and Cobblestones Seattle is a great city for a romantic getaway in the state of Washington. There are plenty of top things to do in Seattle to keep you entertained. Including many free and cheap activities to choose from. But there’s also plenty of places to relax and spend a quiet moment with your special someone. Seattle is located in northwestern Washington, on the Puget Sound. Fly into the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. If you don’t want to rent a car , you can easily get around via public transit. It’s easy to put a romantic spin on Seattle’s top attractions!

Visit the historic Pike Place Market and pick out a beautiful bouquet from the colorful array of fresh flowers. Or indulge your inner foodie with a food tour of the market’s delights. The market and the rest of the city offer some awesome places to eat and fun coffee shops to explore. Take the elevator to the top of the Space Needle and sip a cocktail in the Loupe Lounge while you enjoy 360° views of Seattle. Or relax and enjoy watching a sunset over the harbor from the Olympic Sculpture Park — sunsets over the water are so dreamy!

Where to Stay: The Edgewater Hotel Who it’s Good For: Active couples Best Time of Year to Visit: Seattle is a year-round destination. But summer is the best time to visit Seattle if you’re looking for the best weather. There is something extra romantic about rainy days in the city though, so you can’t go wrong with any month!

Mount Spokane State Park Spokane

Recommended by us! Spokane still feels very undiscovered, even though it is the second largest city in the state. In our opinion, Spokane is one of the biggest hidden gems in Washington, and makes for a perfect romantic getaway in Washington State. It’s one of the only spots on this list that is located in the eastern side of the state, but don’t let that scare you. You can fly into the Spokane International Airport (GEG) from 20 destinations in the US, so it’s pretty easy to fly here despite it being a smaller city. Spokane is loaded with adventurous activities close by, including the beautiful Spokane River which flows through the city. There’s also the Centennial Trail that goes all the way from town to Idaho! Some other great options include Mount Spokane , which is only 45 minutes away, 76 lakes in the area and 5 ski resorts!

Riverside State Park Spokane

There’s also tons of great shopping, delicious restaurants, fun bars, and quiet coffee shops in town to explore with your special someone. With so many romantic activities in Spokane , it’s hard to narrow it all down to just one trip. But one of our favorite things to do is to take a charcuterie picnic up to Mount Spokane for sunset. It’s the perfect date night! Another romantic thing to do is take a ride on the Numerica Skyride. You’ll sit in an enclosed cabin for the 15 minute ride and enjoy views of Spokane Falls, the Spokane River, and Riverfront Park

Where to Stay: Montvale Hotel Who it’s Good For: Active couples Best Time of Year to Visit: Summers can be pretty hot in Spokane, so we suggest a fall getaway for cooler weather. This is also a great time to go apple picking!

Tacoma Day Trip

Recommended by us! Located just 45 minutes south of Seattle lies Washington State’s third largest city, Tacoma! It’s another great option for romantic getaways in Washington State since it’s so easy to get to and has a lot to do in town and nearby! We recommend flying into Seattle and renting a car to get to Tacoma. While you don’t need a car here, it definitely will allow you to visit more of the nearby hikes and parks. It can make for a great day trip from Seattle , but you’ll probably want to stay for a few days to fully appreciate this city! Start by checking out some of the city’s cool photo ops like the umbrella mural on 216 Puyallup Ave., the Chihuly Bridge of Glass and the Chihuly installations at Union Station. All of which are free to enjoy.

Tacoma Day Trip

Spend some time walking hand in hand around Point Defiance Park. You can walk the Outside Loop Trail (4.3 miles) and relax on Owen Beach. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is also located here! For beer drinkers, there are some great breweries in town to visit. Try out Odd Otter Brewing or 7 Seas Brewing while you’re here. And be sure to plan at least one super romantic dinner date. We recommend Over the Moon Cafe , not just for its appropriately romantic name, but also for its delicious food.

Where to Stay: The Villa Bed & Breakfast Who it’s Good For: City People Best Time of Year to Visit: Similar to Seattle, Tacoma is the sunniest in the summer. But any month is great, as long as you don’t mind some rain. We really love the early fall!

Best Coastal Locations for Romantic Getaways in Washington State

Orcas Island Day Trip

Recommended by us! Orcas Island is one of our favorite places in the state, so it’s a no-brainer that it has to be included on our list of the most romantic getaways in Washington State. We have visited several times just the two of us (and Kona of course) and love spending some quality time here. The island has an adorable little town called Eastsound. There’s restaurants and shops, and an awesome state park, Moran State Park . This is a great coastal destination but also offers lots of outdoorsy activities with small town vibes. The perfect blend of the three! This ones a little harder to get to, but still totally doable even for just a long weekend. Fly into Seattle, rent a car and drive up to Anacortes where you’ll hop on a ferry to get to Orcas Island.

Orcas Island Day Trip

Spend the morning hanging out with your partner at Brown Bear Baking , sipping coffee and enjoying their made-from-scratch pastries. Then spend time exploring Moran State Park . At the park, hike the Mt. Constitution trail which is 6.7 miles and has 1,833 ft elevation gain. You will be rewarded with beautiful views of the San Juan Islands. Or if you aren’t avid hikers, then you can instead drive up to the top for the same view and much less work. Or for a super quick and easy hike, check out Cascade Falls , an 0.8 mile trail with 137 ft elevation gain. If your romantic getaway happens to be between May and September, then you must spend time whale watching . Or rent kayaks and hit the water!

Recommended by Tabitha of Travel Compositions Whidbey Island is a convenient romantic island getaway in Washington state. You can drive or take a fun ferry ride to visit cute seaside towns, beautiful parks, and plenty of restaurants. Langley is an artsy town on the south end of the island. One of their claims to fame is their mystery weekend in February, where the whole town is involved in putting on a murder mystery and you have to solve the crime. Coupeville is the state’s second oldest town and is home to the US’s largest and oldest mussel farm. Film junkies will enjoy knowing that “Practical Magic” was filmed here.

There’s no lack of exploring and hiking state parks and historical sites on Whidbey. South Whidbey, Fort Ebey, and Deception Pass have forest trails to wander. Fort Casey has WWII bunkers to get lost in and a lighthouse to climb.  Other exciting things to find on Whidbey are a coffeehouse in the middle of a forest, a speakeasy within a yarn shop, a lone elk named Bruiser, a meadery with 25 meads on tap, potential orca sightings, or a whimsical sculpture park. And as Whidbey is an island, you’ll find a plethora of beaches for a romantic stroll at sunset.

Recommended by Noel of Travel Photo Discovery Visiting the Washington Peninsula at Long Beach is desolate, wild and also very romantic. It has a rugged coastline, untouched forests and gorgeous windswept beaches that are fun to explore with a partner. If you love the outdoors then this is the place to explore. For a romantic activity, walk together along some amazing solitary beaches. You can actually even drive on some of the beaches and enjoy a bonfire, which is allowed on the beach areas. Explore Cape Disappointment State Park for the gorgeous landscape, coastline, and lighthouses. You will love doing some fun hikes here , like the 2 mile Cape Disappointment Trail . Recommended by Dan Bagby of Honeymoon Always Snoqualmie is a perfect romantic getaway in Washington state, offering a blend of natural beauty, outdoor activities, and opportunities for relaxation. The town is a destination convenient to Seattle , only about a 30-40 minute drive from downtown.  The highlight of Snoqualmie is the 268-foot Snoqualmie Falls . There is a viewpoint area next to a parking lot that is very easy to access and a longer trail to get closer to the falls. In the morning and before the sun sets, the falls are a beautiful sight with the mist often creating rainbows to admire.  During a trip to Snoqualmie, the best place to stay is at the Salish Lodge & Spa which provides suites and a dining room with unbeatable views of the Snoqualmie Falls. There is an amazing spa, but the highlight is eating at The Dining Room for breakfast and experiencing the iconic Honey from Heaven service, where house-made biscuits are topped with honey from their own bee hives, from high above your plate.

Where to Stay: Salish Lodge & Spa Who it’s Good For: Outdoorsy couples and foodies Best Time of Year to Visit: Snoqualmie has its beauty any time of the year! In the rainier the months the waterfall will be raging, while the summer will provide more pleasant weather.

Recommended by Lauren of the Traveling Moore One of my favorite places for romantic getaways in Washington State is Chelan, a small lake town in north central Washington. Chelan is known for outdoor activities such as boating and hiking, and wine tasting at the local wineries . This makes it a great romantic destination because there is so much to do with your partner. The best way to get to Chelan is by driving. It’s around 3 hours to drive from Seattle and 4 hours from Spokane, both cities with international airports. So either way, you’ll want to grab a rental car once you arrive. My favorite thing to do in Chelan in the summer is spend time on the lake. You can rent ski boats, jet skis, paddle boards, and kayaks at many vendors around town. In the winter, there are also great snow activities in Chelan such as cross-country skiing or snow tubing. Regardless of when you visit, the top thing to do in Chelan is wine tasting . Over the past decade, many Chelan apple orchards have been converted to vineyards. Now, Chelan is one of the top wine regions in the state!

Sun Setting over Mount Rainier, a view from Ashford, one of the most romantic getaways in Washington state.

Recommended by Jess of Uprooted Traveler The tiny town of Ashford, right outside of the Paradise entrance of Mount Rainier National Park , is the perfect place to have a romantic getaway. The town is surrounded by a stunning landscape of lush pine tree forests, sweeping meadows of wildflowers, and the rugged Cascade Mountains. While Mount Rainier gets all of the attention in this area, there’s incredible hiking opportunities outside of the national park near Ashford. For example, the Gifford Pinchot National Forest offers world-class hiking trails, like the bucket list-worthy High Rock Lookout . Wake up and climb to its summit for sunrise to watch the sun illuminate Mount Rainier, the tallest mountain in Washington state. If you’re visiting in the wintertime, then consider climbing the challenging snowshoeing trail to High Hut , a cozy cabin in the backcountry with a wood-burning stove and epic views of Mounts Rainier, Adams, and St. Helen. Ashford is located about an hour and a half drive southeast of Seattle and is most easily accessed via car. So if you are flying into Seattle, rent a car from there and drive.

Where to Stay: The Stone Creek Lodge is the perfect homebase in Ashford, thanks to its private cabins with gas fireplaces and big, comfy beds. There’s even a few of the suites that you can book with their very own hot tubs! Who it’s Good For: Ashford is full of outdoor activities, perfect for an adventurous couple. Best Time of Year to Visit: The best time to visit is the summer (July through September), when the hiking trails are snow and ice-free, or winter (December through March), when there’s plenty of snow on the ground for winter sports, like snowshoeing!

You can either drive directly or take a ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, followed by a scenic drive to the park. An Olympic Peninsula road trip is a great option if you have the time!

Visiting multiple National Parks? We highly recommend getting the America the Beautiful pass , which costs about $80 per year and gives you free access to over 2,000 federal recreation sites, including ALL National Parks.

Recommended by Us! One of the most popular romantic getaways in Washington State that locals love is renting a cabin in the woods and enjoying nature together. It allows for tons of quality time together! One of the most popular areas in the state for cabin rentals is Mount Baker. Mount Baker is located about 3 hours drive north of Seattle or about 2.5 hours southeast from Vancouver, Canada. Either would make for a great road trip if you are flying in from out of state! There’s tons of cabins to choose from in the area. There are high end ones that are brand new and have hot tubs, or more budget friendly options as well. If you’re visiting Mount Baker in the warmer months, then hike to Artist Point for stunning views of several nearby peaks and is 4.4 miles and has 980 feet of elevation gain. Alternatively, enjoy a scenic drive through the Mt. Baker National Forest, go fishing on the Nooksack River or go chasing waterfalls at Nooksack Falls and Franklin Falls . With a remote and charming destination like Mount Baker, you’re sure to have the best romantic getaway in Washington state after just a few days here.

8 Romantic Getaways in Washington State: Fresh Air and Romance in the Evergreen State

The wind whips through my hair as I lean over the emerald green railing, the sun warming my face, my husband’s strong arms around me. We’re watching intently for the tall black fins of a pod of orca whales to crest through the water again. “There!” We point excitedly, and he squeezes my hand.

This is so cool.

And it isn’t a whale watching tour we paid for; the orcas are following along with our ferry as we glide between the tree-covered San Juan Islands. Everyone is hushed, present, eyes opened wide, watching these majestic creatures.

Eventually, the orcas disappear into the sapphire waters, and my husband and I resume chatting. The ferry rounds a bend, and Orcas Island comes into view. It makes an endearing first impression, with tall evergreens rising up behind quaint white buildings sporting cheery red roofs. I’m charmed already.

Some women wish for diamond necklaces, a dozen long-stemmed red roses, or a heart-shaped box of chocolates. But this is romance to me: quality time with my sweetie, on a quiet island, surrounded by nature. We breathe deeply, filling our lungs with that fresh Washington air, and exhale all of our stresses. Here in my home state, we don’t need to book tickets to Paris for a romantic escape. Instead, we have these eight romantic getaways in Washington.

On the other side of Bellingham Bay, The Chrysalis Inn & Spa perches above the water’s edge in Bellingham’s historic Fairhaven district. The three-story lobby is elegant and sumptuous, with curved staircases soaring dramatically to the third level. Spacious rooms feature stunning views of the bay, cozy fireplaces, oversized two-person soaking tubs with separate showers, aromatherapy amenities, and sophisticated styling.

But the big draw is the Inn’s luxurious full-service spa. Every detail is thoughtfully arranged to help you unwind and relieve your stress, from the Relaxation Lounge and eucalyptus steam room where you can rest and enjoy a refreshing drink before your appointment, to the “digital detox” policy that encourages you to disconnect from your devices and enjoy the moment.

Choose any massage from their extensive list to experience together as a couple from a classic Swedish massage to one of their more unique treatments like a Japanese Ashiatsu barefoot massage, a traditional Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage, or a relaxing hot stone massage with essential oils. Their Eminence Organic Facial is also blissfully relaxing: a customized, award-winning facial containing extremely concentrated and active levels of organically grown herbs, fruits, and flowers that enhance the regenerative power of your skin.

After a therapeutic afternoon of being pampered at the spa, keep the relaxation going with dinner at the on-site restaurant, Keenan’s at the Pier. Casual yet elegant Pacific Northwest dishes (cioppino with scallops, clams, and fresh market fish) pair perfectly with great local wine and panoramic views of the sun setting over Bellingham Bay.

Chrysalis Inn & Spa Bellingham Curio Collection by Hilton

The Historic Davenport has been the epitome of romance for me since I was a little girl. The first time I stepped inside the opulent interior, I felt like I’d been transported to a palatial 1920s mansion. A balcony encircled the two-story lobby, ornately carved beams crossed the ceiling, and in the middle of the marble floors sat a glossy grand piano and a bubbling indoor fountain. Tall potted plants, elaborate floral arrangements, a gold-leafed fireplace, and tufted brocade furniture completed the look. Up the grand staircase, I peeked into marble-columned ballrooms, each more elegant than the last, with crystal chandeliers sparkling from frescoed ceilings over wooden parquetry floors.

With soaring architecture, a rich history that dates back to 1914, and the same gloriously extravagant interior, the Davenport is still the grandest hotel in Washington. Famous guests, like Amelia Earhart and John F. Kennedy, add to the property’s illustrious history. Guest rooms are luxurious and well-appointed, with hand-carved mahogany beds, large marble walk-in showers and soaking tubs, fine Frette linens, original oil-on-canvas paintings, and beautiful views of downtown Spokane.

The on-site restaurants are beloved among locals and hotel guests alike, from the Palm Court Grill serving upscale American fare, to the sophisticated Peacock Room Lounge for handcrafted cocktails. Sunday Brunch is a lavish buffet (a feast for the belly as well as the eyes) including a cascading chocolate fountain, sparkling mimosas, and carved-to-order meats. For a simpler start to the morning, the lobby’s espresso bar serves Starbucks coffee, cinnamon rolls, scones, and other house-made pastries. The signature soft peanut brittle that’s made on-site and sold in the Davenport Home Store is especially addicting.

The Davenport Spa is a worthy indulgence, with a wide range of treatments such as stress-relieving massages, detoxifying seaweed leaf wraps, revitalizing sugar scrubs, and a warm spiced mud wrap. They also offer tinting, waxing, nail treatments, and a hair salon. Their express services (for her and for him) package up the best of it all in just 30 minutes to get you ready for date night. A glass of champagne and the aromatherapy steam room are included with any service.

The Historic Davenport, Autograph Collection

Six whimsical wooden tree houses perched high above the ground, nestled in a thick, mossy forest; it’s a fitting getaway for The Evergreen State. The houses are built around tree trunks, with details like suspension bridges leading to them and twisting branches that form the railings. It feels otherworldly and surreal, like something out of a fairytale or a Tolkien novel. Each treehouse is a one-of-a-kind labor of love, made by the passionate owners who were featured on the TV show Treehouse Masters .

TreeHouse Point is wildly different from an average hotel. From the moment you step onto the hushed, forested property the tone is set for a memorable escape. The houses themselves are delightful, and the fact that you’re up among the trees makes them even more special. You get the connection with nature you’d experience during a camping trip, but unlike camping, the treehouses come equipped with heat, bedding, towels, shampoo, and conditioner. Only one of the treehouses has its own sink and toilet; the other five share two private cedar-lined bathhouses. The bathhouses are warm and sparkling clean with luxurious walk-in showers and modern fixtures.

At the edge of the TreeHouse Point property, there’s a cozy lodge with a flickering fireplace and built-in shelves stocked with books and board games. Indulge in hot coffee and complimentary snacks, warm up by the fire, and get a little competitive over a game of chess.

If the weather is nice, the four-acre property is a beautiful place for a walk. It’s rejuvenating and restorative, with a babbling brook crossing through the green, fern-laced forest filled with old-growth trees. For those seeking more adventure and spectacular vistas, the trailheads for some of the Pacific Northwest’s best hikes are just a short drive away.

TreeHouse Point

Orcas island.

The white colonial building has black shutters framing symmetrical windows, twinkling lights strung around the generous front porch, and tall French doors that open to a view of Fishing Bay. It’s like stepping into a Nancy Meyers movie; a classically chic house sets the stage for romance. Outlook Inn is the grand dame of Orcas Island, built in 1888 and rich in history (it’s been everything from a post office to a house of ill repute–or so the rumor goes). Rooms range from luxurious water view suites with oversized soaking tubs and private balconies, to simple budget-friendly rooms that share the hallway bathrooms.

The Inn also operates the New Leaf Cafe, featuring a sophisticated but unpretentious menu with items like buttery Buck Bay clam bucatini, pan seared Alaskan scallops with a fresh tarragon beurre blanc, and crisp-skinned chicken confit served over creamy mashed potatoes.

Like the Inn itself, Orcas Island is quiet and peaceful, undeniably beautiful, but not flashy. It’s surrounded by placid waters, covered in lush green forests, and traversed by miles of hiking trails. Life here is simple, calmer, slower. It’s about taking pleasure in the moment, whether it’s savoring the taste of buttery pasta with fresh herbs, or enjoying the warmth of your partner’s hand in yours as you take in the view of the bay from the Adirondack chairs on the inn’s grassy lawn.

Outlook Inn On Orcas Island

Olympic peninsula.

Ancient Sitka spruce, Douglas fir, and western red cedar trees loom over the historic Lake Quinault Lodge . Weathered cedar shingles cover the grand building, which forms a U-shape facing the lake. Adirondack chairs sit on the grassy lawn that slopes down to the sparkling waters of pristine Lake Quinault.

Inside the lobby, a fire crackles in the brick fireplace, and leather club chairs gather in clusters around carved wooden furniture that seems antique. Wood box beams criss-cross the wood-paneled ceiling and antlers decorate the walls. It’s warm, cozy, and delightfully rustic — a quintessential Pacific Northwest lodge.

There’s something about the Olympic Peninsula, that large arm of land jutting up in western Washington, that feels like it’s not only separate from the rest of the state but blissfully disconnected from the entire modern world. Nature here is grand and proud with tall mountains, dramatic coastlines, plunging waterfalls, and giant trees.

Lake Quinault Lodge is centrally located to explore all of this rich natural beauty. Head to the beach and look for tidepools; hike through the meditative, moss-laden Hoh Rainforest, or simply hang out at the lodge and rent paddleboards for a leisurely glide across Lake Quinault, followed by sandwiches and clam chowder at the on-site Roosevelt Dining Room (named after President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who ate here in 1937).

Lake Quinault Lodge

If your tastes lean more urban and contemporary, the Thompson Hotel in Seattle is a stunning boutique hotel overlooking the Puget Sound waterfront. Built in 2016 and designed by Seattle’s renowned Olson Kundig Architects, the 12-story hotel is striking and modern, with sleek floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Pike Place Market and across the water to the mountains. The Mid-Century-inspired decor is beautifully understated, allowing the expansive views to take center stage. State-of-the-art rain showers and fluffy, oversized signature robes add a touch of luxury.

Don’t miss the indoor-outdoor rooftop lounge, The Nest, which offers panoramic views of Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountain Range, and beyond. With chic, modern patio furniture for lounging and an impressively stocked bar, it’s a delightful place to watch the sunset, sip a cocktail, and share some small bites, then cozy up in a fire-lit corner for intimate conversation.

Thompson Seattle, by Hyatt

When it comes to cities in the Pacific Northwest , Seattle and Portland tend to get all the glory. If you’ve driven between them, you’ve probably zoomed right past Tacoma without thinking twice. But this unfairly overlooked town is emerging as a hub of arts and culture in Washington, and it’s worth stopping to explore.

Besides the growing arts scene, Tacoma’s natural surroundings are stunning. On a clear day, Mt. Rainier looms large over the waterfront city, its majestic peak sparkling snow-white until sunset colors cover it with cotton candy hues. In the heart of downtown Tacoma, you’ll find Hotel Murano —a tall, sophisticated, art-filled property just a couple blocks from the picturesque waterfront, the Tacoma Art Museum, and the Museum of Glass.

The hotel could be an art museum itself. From the first step into its lobby, your eyes are drawn upward to the elegant glass sculptures hanging from the high ceilings. As the proud birthplace of famous glass artist Dale Chihuly, Tacoma is the center of the American glass art scene. Hotel Murano (named for the island in Italy where glass blowing got its start) recently underwent a $28 million renovation with much of that budget going to art. They’ve curated an international collection of 20th-century glassworks, representing 45 artists from 12 countries and displaying a diverse collection of glass art techniques and styles. Every floor showcases different sculptures with photos and drawings illustrating the process behind the creation of that piece. Guestrooms are spacious and stylish, with modern decor and creative touches.

If the location and the artsy vibe weren’t enough to get you excited, Hotel Murano also offers some fun and unexpected amenities to make your stay memorable. For one, they’ll deliver a pint of Tacoma’s local handcrafted ice cream (with flavors like Star Anise or Mad Hat Earl Grey) straight to your room. To balance out your ice cream indulgence, their signature Well+Fit program allows you to stream online workouts, gives you access to in-studio class passes, and includes a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center on-site. And to kick up the romance, the SAVI Day Spa is a candlelit sanctuary of peace and calm, offering massages, facials, body treatments, and nail services to get you refreshed, relaxed, and feeling good.

Hotel Murano

Walla walla.

Nestled on 300 acres in the rolling vineyards of Washington wine country, this sparkling new resort has created quite a buzz since it opened in July 2018. From the outside, the architecture of the Eritage Resort is elegant and understated. Its gracefully curved roofline blends in with the surrounding hillsides as if it belongs there. Inside, each guest room features a king-sized bed with soft Garnier-Thiebaut linens, luxe bath products, a fireplace, soaking tub and separate shower, and best of all, a wall of windows and a private deck or patio with sweeping views of either the vineyards, wheat fields, Lake Sienna, or the Blue Mountains. It’s serene, romantic, and pinch-me beautiful.

And the views aren’t all that Eritage has going for it. Their in-house restaurant boasts an outstanding, thoughtfully curated menu that changes seasonally to showcase the region’s flavors. Right now, they’re serving a pan-roasted lingcod with razor clam-bacon chowder, fingerling potatoes, leeks, and a bone marrow salad.

The service is friendly, attentive, and unpretentious. And you can’t beat the location; only a 10-minute-drive outside of Walla Walla (wine capital of Washington), so it’s close to shops, galleries, and wine tastings if you want to head into town. Still, it’s far away enough to feel peacefully removed from the city if you just want to relax and unwind.

The Best Romantic Getaways in the Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest is filled with great places to take your sweetheart for a special romantic weekend. There are many options, but they all have a few things in common: accommodations that are cozy, dining options that are intimate, and activities that include walking and talking.

Amenities like fireplaces, large tubs, and balcony views can make spending time together that much more special, and the location of your accommodations can enhance the romance. A simple cabin in the woods or a condo overlooking the Oregon Coast  may be modest in amenities, but the warm and intimate ambiance creates a romantic setting.

Look for atmosphere wherever you dine. A choice picnic spot with a couple of take-out sandwiches can be as romantic as a pricey waterfront bistro.

Whether you're staying at a resort along the  Oregon Coast  or planning a weekend getaway to  Portland , the state of Oregon has plenty of romantic accommodations to discover on your trip to the Pacific Northwest. Take a trip to Oregon's wine country and stay at the Allison Inn in the small town of Newberg or take in the sights and sounds of the ocean at Cannon Beach's Stephanie Inn .

Featuring wide-open spaces and beautiful mountain resorts , Montana is full of great bed and breakfasts and charming inns that are perfect for a weekend escape with your special someone. Consider staying at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake or the Kandahar Lodge at Big Mountain where you can go kayaking on the lake or hiking in the nearby Glacier National Park for the best views in Montana.

Check out our list of the top 15 spots in Washington for your next romantic getaway.

2. Kennewick

Only 2 hours from Spokane, Kennewick is a delightful and less visited romantic getaway location in Washington state. It also makes an excellent weekend trip in Washington, given how close it is to Spokane!

Love looking at the stars, and want to share your passion for space with your loved one? While it’s not your typical space observatory, space aficionados will enjoy a visit to the LIGO Hanford Observatory .

Just outside the market in Post Alley is The Pink Door . With a view of Elliott Bay, the restaurant is home to classic Italian dishes, such as rigatoni with Italian sausage and meatballs.

You can order a flight and sample five of the winery’s best wines, or sign up for a tour and tasting class for a nominal fee. Either way, you’ll love your visit to the Chateau.

While the Fairmont Olympic may be one of the finest hotels in Seattle, another to consider for a romantic weekend is the Edgewater Hotel along the Waterfront. The only hotel in Seattle built on the water, the Edgewater offers a great view of Elliott Bay and the city’s skyline.

Valentines Day.  Three-day weekends. Anniversaries. The year is full of opportunities to woo your sweetheart with the romance of the Pacific Northwest!

A romantic getaway doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Make any weekend special and romantic on one of these dreamy, affordable getaways in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.

How to Make a Cheap Getaway Seem Romantic  | 5 Affordable Northwest Dates

Nine Romantic Getaways in the Pacific Northwest

Location:  Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is at the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Please note, Americans need a passport to travel to Victoria or anywhere else in Canada.  See directions from Seattle .

Why it’s romantic: Honeymooners flock here for good reason–fabulous parks and museums, charming neighborhoods, afternoon tea, cozy restaurants and flower gardens that bloom year-round. Imagine all of this in a postcard-perfect city that hugs a charming harbor and faces the gorgeous snow-capped Olympic mountains.

Where to stay: Romantic bed and breakfast are the lodging of choice in Victoria, and there are truly remarkable B&Bs for almost any budget. Ashcroft House ,  a B&B housed in a beautifully-restored 1898 heritage home in the James Bay neighborhood is one of our faves (you can walk to downtown and Beacon Hill Park from here). Indulge in a generous basket of homemade muffins and scones at the start of your delicious four-course breakfast; whatever you can’t eat, the hosts will pack up for you.  Winter rates start at $99, summer rates start at $139 CAN (these rates are incredibly affordable for Americans when you consider the exchange rate–see current exchange rate here ).

Mount Adams

Nine Romantic Getaways in the Pacific Northwest

Location: The Cascade mountains in Southwest Washington. Get directions from Seattle to Trout Lake, WA .

Why it’s romantic:  Hiking in the summer, and snow in the winter! Trout Lake makes a great base for cross-country ski trips from SnoParks on the Mount Adams Ranger District, and an easy getaway for folks in Portland and the Columbia Gorge.

Where to stay: Enjoy truly warm hospitality and wake up to a delicious huckleberry muffins and fresh coffee and teas at Kelly’s Trout Creek Inn , where rates are just right at $75 – $100 a night. Your dip in the hot tub beside a roaring creek will relieve tired muscles from your excursion.

Lasqueti Island

lasqueti

Why it’s romantic: This is where eco-conscious romantics can really get away from it all . In fact, just getting to the Northern Gulf Island of Lasqueti Island  is part of the fun  (there’s a  passenger ferry  that departs from Parksville on Vancouver Island ). The island’s 400 self-sufficient residents live simply and sustainably, from growing their own food to chopping their own wood.

Where to stay : Snuggle up in the simple, new cabin at Squitty Bay Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast  ( 250-333-8566)  where the ocean view is amazing, the wood-fired sauna is hot and your ecological footprint is low. Rates: from $110 CAN for two people (see current exchange rate  here ).

Willamette Valley Wine Country

Nine Romantic Getaways in the Pacific Northwest

Why it’s romantic : This lush valley of green, rolling hills dotted with oak trees hosts patchwork vineyards that produce wonderful wines like pinot noir and pinot gris. You’ll also find lots of hazelnuts, fresh fruit, and charming farms. Take a romantic hike in the nearby Coast Range. Small towns like McMinville and Dundee are great for antique shopping and have surprisingly excellent restaurants, many featuring Northwest seasonal cuisine and serving local wines.

Where to stay: There’s no place like Gahr Farm  ( 503-472-6960),  situated on a 350-acre conservation farm and forest that’s managed as a native plant and wildlife reserve with trails that meander through forest and meadow. Accommodations are two private, charming guest cottages; Harry’s Cottage is a traditional farm cottage and Willow Cottage is an energy-efficient, green-built modern cottage. Both have fully-equipped kitchens and are steps away from nature. The farm is just outside the charming town of McMinnville, and nestled among some of the region’s best wineries. Rates from $112 per night.

The Methow Valley

Nine Romantic Getaways in the Pacific Northwest

Why it’s romantic: Recreation lovers will swoon over the plethora of outdoor pursuits to enjoy together, from hiking trails to cross-country skiing to river rafting.

Where to stay: Calling all modernists! The six Rolling Huts just outside Winthrop sit near the bank of the Methow River, a cluster of compact glass and steel modern cabins that completely redefine the idea of “camping.” The hut’s furnishings are simple but functional (bring your own bedding and cozy blankets to cuddle under), though all the important amenities are there—a fireplace, kitchenette, and spacious deck that face rugged Cascade peaks. Rates are $145 nightly.

Olympic Coast

Nine Romantic Getaways in the Northwest

Why it’s romantic: Ponder the longevity of the rainforest’s ancient trees. Explore seastacks and count seastars as you stroll hand-in-hand on the scenic coast of Olympic National Park . It’s a wild coastline framed by mossy, wet rainforest– need I say more?

Where to stay: Indulge in warm hospitality and a fantastic breakfast delivered to your room at the Misty Valley Inn  ( 1-877-374-9389)  near Forks. Rates from $115.

Crater Lake

Nine Romantic Getaways in the Pacific Northwest

Why it’s romantic: Sheer proximity to the deepest lake in the U.S. is sure to deepen your love. Snow is also deep and generous here in winter for great snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Where to stay: West of Crater Lake is the Union Creek Resort   ( 1-866-560-3565)  where simple cabins set in the Rogue River National Forest provide a cozy, rustic backdrop to your romantic getaway. Some cabins have full kitchens, or eat at the cafe at the lodge. Cabins start at $129, though lodge rooms start as low as $84 nightly.

Oregon Coast

yachatstidepool

Why it’s romantic : The Central Coast boasts dramatic seaside bluffs of basalt looming over beaches and tidepools waiting to be explored. And when it comes to making out, there is no soundtrack more romantic than the pounding Oregon surf against these bluffs.

Where to stay : Ocean Haven  ( 541-547-3583)  in Yachats is perched on a particularly scenic stretch of coastline. Big corner windows give way to panoramic ocean views. Beach blankets and walking sticks are provided for your beach ramblings, and comfortable beds, a beautiful tiled shower, and a well-stocked library of nature books await you upon your return— all lovely touches that make Ocean Haven an extra special place to stay, and one of our personal favorite getaways in the Northwest. $110 – $165.

The Sunshine Coast

Nine Romantic Getaways in the Pacific Northwest

Why it’s romantic: One of the most stunningly scenic coastlines in the Northwest draws lovers to the Sunshine Coast’s sheltered bays fringed with fir-scented forests. Plus, the 100-mile coastline enjoys more sunny days than anywhere else in western British Columbia.

Where to stay: For the best view from a hot tub anywhere, you must book the beautiful suite at the Starfish Studio Bed and Breakfast ( 604-885-7112)  in Sechelt. Rate from $178 CAN (see current exchange rate  here ).

Just got this forwarded to me, but I’m not sure what it’s all about. Is there some holiday coming up?

Thanks for including us Lauren. Just a quick note on our “lowered rates.” Starting January 1st, 2009, we dropped our rates (to $50, $60, and $70) in response to President Obama’s saying that he couldn’t do it by himself, and that we all needed to pitch in (to help the economy get rolling again). This May 1st (2010) we’re returning to our 2005 – 2008 rates of $75, $85, and $100. Our website mentions this, and we hope it’s not an inconvenience for anyone, Kelly and Marilyn.

Another romantic stay in Central Washington is the great Bavarian village of Leavenworth. This charming town transports you to a German Bavarian village with great food and shopping for all ages. While in Leavenworth book your stay at Pine River Ranch our romantic luxury bed and breakfast. Each cabin suite has jacuzzi spas, river rock fireplaces, hand made log beds and breakfast delivered right to your door! A wonderful, romantic and relaxing getaway in Washington State.

Friday Harbor, San Juan Island

Staying in the charming seaside town of Friday Harbor on the San Juan Islands is an experience that feels like stepping into one of those Hallmark movie small towns.

This island offers sweeping views of the water and provides plenty of romantic opportunities for couples to explore.

From whale watching and kayaking to biking or hiking, there are plenty of activities for you two to share. And Friday Harbor is one of the top whale-watching destinations in the United States , so I’d put that on the top of your “to-do” list for this getaway.

Friday Harbor House offers rooms with stunning views of the Harbor as well as on-site dining.

From admiring the stunning views from Cap Sante Park to visiting historic downtown Anacortes there’s something for everyone here. Couples can also enjoy hiking, kayaking, or taking a whale-watching cruise.

Learn more about Anacortes’ history by visiting the Anacortes Museum and/or the Maritime Heritage Center , drive to the top of Mount Erie , charter a fishing excursion, and more.

Port Angeles

Port Angeles makes a great weekend trip for couples in Washington State. For some of the most popular experiences, visit nearby Olympic National Park, observe whales on a guided tour, and explore downtown’s array of shops and eateries.

In my opinion, a trip to Port Angeles is incomplete without visiting Dungeness Spit. This 5-mile-long picturesque spit provides travelers with opportunities such as fishing, hiking, and bird watching; not to mention the lovely scenery.

If you’re looking for a place to stay on the harbor, check out the Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles Harbor . It’s centrally located and offers great views.

For an unforgettable romantic getaway, couples should consider visiting Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, Washington.

Located on the scenic Drayton Harbor, Semiahmoo offers a range of activities for couples to enjoy such as biking on the Semiahmoo Spit, salt-water kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding.

Couples can enjoy a romantic dinner at the hotel’s on-site restaurant or take a stroll on the boardwalk. Try the resort’s spa, enjoy a bonfire, get out on the golf course at the Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club, soak in the hot tub, and so much more.

Semiahmoo is a much-beloved place for a getaway among those in my family.

You’d better believe I’d choose Seattle as a great Washington State getaway for couples. Seattle is a bustling, vibrant city with a plethora of activities perfect for couples. It’s also my hometown, so I’m a little biased.

From taking in stunning views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains to enjoying freshly caught seafood at Pike Place Market , there’s something for everyone.

Enjoy amazing artwork at the Seattle Art Museum or attend a concert at Benaroya Hall . Couples can also explore Seattle’s unique neighborhoods, take a day trip from Seattle to nearby islands or national parks, and explore the city’s many unique shops and world-class restaurants.

Whether you want a quiet weekend away in the city or a thrilling adventure, Seattle is a great place for a romantic getaway.

Spokane, Washington, is a lovely city with a lot to offer visitors.

From picturesque neighborhoods to its beautiful natural surroundings, Spokane should definitely be on your list of potential romantic Washington State getaways. They even claim that their fall colors rival those of New England!

When you visit Spokane, a walk along Riverfront Park is essential. You also might want to explore at least some of the Centennial Trail which begins in Riverside State Park , Washington’s largest state park.

The Davenport Grand hotel is a few blocks from Riverfront Park and is conveniently located within a short walking distance of shops and restaurants.

Columbia River Gorge

The Columbia River Gorge is a beautiful part of the Northwest United States. Lush forests, beautiful waterfalls, and awe-inspiring views will take your breath away.

Boasting numerous hiking and biking trails, this is a perfect weekend destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Popular spots in the Columbia River Gorge include Pool of the Winds in Beacon Rock State Park.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in the Columbia River Gorge, Skamania Lodge is a great option. This lodge located in Stevenson, Washington, offers views of both the river and gorge.

Lake Chelan

a town on the shore of Lake Chelan in Washington State

Lake Chelan makes a great Washington State weekend getaway. This 50-mile-long glacier-fed lake is located in the Cascade Mountains in central Washington.

Chelan is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Washington State. You’ll never be at a loss for something to do like hiking, fishing, boating, or swimming. Explore a variety of restaurants and stores located in town.

There are many options for places to stay in Chelan from camping to resorts. Try the Lakeside Lodge and Suites to enjoy a getaway right on the lake and just a few steps from Lakeside Park.

Mukilteo, Washington, makes a lovely destination for a weekend getaway for couples. It’s a nice town right on the water.

Mukilteo is a great place to relax and enjoy quality time together. And it’s not all that far from Seattle if you wanted to check out the “big city” too.

Enjoy a stroll along the beach, take a ferry ride over to Whidbey Island , visit Mukilteo Lighthouse Park , visit Boeing’s Future of Flight , and sip a cup of coffee at the Red Cup Cafe, among so many other delightful things to do.

Silver Cloud Inn Mukilteo Waterfront is this town’s only waterfront hotel. It is very near the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry and offers views of the water.

Whidbey Island

Escape the hustle and bustle of city life by taking a ferry ride for a getaway to Whidbey Island. On this wonderful Pacific Northwest island, you’ll find several activities that are sure to leave lasting memories.

Whidbey is well known for its arts community. Explore the Whidbey Art Trail to discover and appreciate the various galleries, art studios, and sculpture parks that fill the island.

Whidbey is the largest island in Washington State, so you would have a few choices for towns in which to stay. If you want to be situated in the middle of it all, Coupeville is a great choice for you. If, however, your preference lies with larger towns you might choose Oak Harbor or Langley (near the ferry).

Guests love the Saratoga Inn in Langley and the Captain Whidbey Inn in Coupeville.

sandy beach on Whidbey Island lined with evergreen trees

Ocean Shores

Ocean Shores is a great option for a beach-y weekend getaway in Washington State.

With its miles of pristine beaches and delicious eateries, Ocean Shores is a great getaway destination for visitors of all ages. Searching for a place to stay in Ocean Shores? The Grey Gull and the Canterbury Inn are highly rated options.

Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island may only be a few minutes away from Seattle by ferry, but it provides an entirely different atmosphere.

It makes an easy weekend getaway from Seattle . It’s also a popular day trip from Seattle .

While there you can visit the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art or the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum, or stroll through Bloedel Reserve’s 150 acres of gardens, and more.

There are some great places to stay on Bainbridge Island. The Eagle Harbor Inn is a small boutique hotel near the water. Or try The Marshall Suites if you’re looking for a place with a little more space.

Snoqualmie Falls

large waterfall kicking up mist

To experience one of the best romantic getaways in Washington State, try making the short drive to the stunning 268-foot Snoqualmie Falls on the Snoqualmie River.

About 1.5 million people visit the Falls every year and enjoy the view. A two-acre park, gift shop, and an upper and lower observation deck await you at the falls. The decks are available daily to provide breathtaking views of the cascading waters.

For a weekend of beauty and tranquility, Salish Lodge & Spa is a top choice. The resort opened its doors in 1916 and has since become one of Washington State’s top getaway spots. Perched upon the banks of Snoqualmie Falls, this lodge offers its guest rooms with captivating views.

Port Townsend

Known for its charming Victorian architecture, Port Townsend makes a great weekend getaway on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.

Whether you are in search of a thrilling outdoor journey or simply want to reconnect with nature, this spot is an ideal opportunity for activities such as hiking, biking, and kayaking.

Port Townsend offers a variety of options for a weekend getaway including bed & breakfasts, hotels, and vacation rentals. The Ravenscroft Inn is highly rated by guests for its service, amenities, and breakfast.

North Cascades National Park

If you are looking for the perfect hiking weekend escape to Washington State, then a trip to North Cascades National Park should be at the top of your list. With miles of trails and stunning scenery, hiking in this park is best enjoyed between mid-June through September when it experiences its driest weather.

The North Cascades draw in seasoned backpackers and mountaineers, but they are also home to some good day hikes. At least five or six trails can be completed within two hours (or less!).

There are also many great places to stay near North Cascades National Park, such as the Ross Lake Resort . They only have a few units. You’ll want to get on the waitlist to have a chance to grab a reservation.

Or check out North Cascades Lodge at Stehekin (keep in mind that there are no roads into Stehekin).

Olympic National Park

sandy beach with large rocks and large trees

On Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula lies a breathtaking national park that offers an array of incredible sights from lush rainforest to towering mountains and sparkling beaches.

From fishing, kayaking, and camping to hiking, exploring waterfalls, and admiring the Roosevelt elk that inhabit Olympic National Park, there’s truly something for everyone.

Prepare to be astonished by the Hoh Rain Forest , an emerald green paradise and one of the largest temperate rainforests in the entire United States.

I love the hike to Marymere Falls . This easy/moderate hike is just under 2 miles long roundtrip and will weave you through old-growth forest towards a breathtaking 90-foot waterfall.

Lake Quinault Lodge offers fireplace and lakeside rooms, an on-site dining room, and more.

Mount Rainier National Park

Mount Rainier National Park safeguards the towering 14,000+ foot Mount Rainier. According to the National Park Service, Mount Rainier “is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous U.S.A., spawning five major rivers.”

Popular options include Mt. Baker Lodging, Glacier Guest Suites, and Winter Creek B&B.

Pullman, Washington, is a small city in southeastern Washington State in the Palouse region of the Northwest. Pullman is a fun choice for a weekend getaway if you’re looking for a small-town feel with some lovely natural surroundings.

The basics for a romantic anniversary.

Any romantic getaway will share the same basics. First, make sure you book your stay at Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins. For the Adventurous Couple

The Pacific Northwest is known for its gorgeous landscapes and outdoor activities. If you and your other half are the adventurous types, you can spend day after day exploring. Some of the best hikes in the Columbia River Gorge are found just moments away from our property. Head to Panther Creek Falls for an easy yet satisfying excursion. The parking lot is just 20 minutes away from Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins, and the 130-foot waterfall is awe-inspiring.

If you want to spend the entire day exploring, we recommend tackling the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Here, you’ll find countless miles of trails, mysterious caves, stunning waterfalls, and even an active volcano.

For the Wine Aficionado Couple

Located just above California’s famous wine-growing region, the Pacific Northwest also has prime wine producing conditions. Let your anniversary ideas in Washington State revolve around our local wine.

There are plenty of Columbia River Gorge wineries for you to enjoy, and each one offers something different than the last. You should definitely have the Jacob Williams Winery on your list. The tasting room overlooks the Columbia River and rolling fields of grapes as Mount Hood looms in the distance.

Of course, you can always get local wine right in your private cabin since we sell it onsite!

For the Couple Looking for Something Unique

As locals in the area, we know countless unique experiences in Washington State. From huckleberry picking to hot springs that date back to the 1930s, we have unique activities for any taste.

One of our favorite activities unique to the area is easy for all couples to access, and it is very romantic. We are very lucky that our area has minimal light pollution. This means that there is no light blocking the beauty of the night sky. The stars here are more vibrant than most other places in the United States, so when you look up, you’ll see the sky full of them on a clear night. Head to the Goldendale Observatory State Park to use their public telescopes and get all your astronomy questions answered or opt to stargaze on your own on our property.

For the Foodie Couple

As foodies, we understand that the perfect date often revolves around food. Spend your anniversary getaway indulging in all of the best restaurants in our area. We have Backwoods Brewing Company right across the street, and Hood River has many other great eateries. Our neighboring town, Stevenson, also has some great restaurants to check out.

For the Artsy Couple

Get inspired when you stay at Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins. There’s something about fresh mountain air that has sparked creativity in many. Let the stunning colors of wildflowers influence you in the spring or gather some inspiration from the softly falling snow in the winter.

To see art, head somewhere like the Columbia Center for the Arts. This cultural center showcases some of the best artists of the area. When you visit, you can attend a play, browse the Columbia Art Gallery, and even take a class.

For the Couple Who’d Say, “I’d Do It All Over Again With You”

Whether you’re celebrating your first or 50th, if you’d say, “I’d do it all again in an instant,” renewing your vows may be for you.

Renewing your wedding vows is a heart-felt way to celebrate an anniversary and strengthen the marital bonds that sweeten your life together. You get to revisit what is uniquely yours with your partner.

Repeat the vows you exchanged the first time or update them with all the loving experience that you’ve gathered through the years.

Climb to a mountain top and exchange vows on your own, or celebrate the moment in a small wedding vow renewal ceremony we offer here at the Cabins.

However you renew your vows, this celebration belongs to you.

For the Thrill Seeking Couple

Your anniversary getaway should be all about making memories, and what better way is there to make memories than to seek some thrills? If you and your sweetheart love an adrenaline rush, you came to the right place. Fly through the air at Zipline Skamania– they have ziplines that range anywhere from 100-900 feet. In the summer, windsurfing or kayaking also make excellent options. There are multiple rental companies in the Gorge, and you can get lessons if you are a first-timer. Imagine feeling the wind whip by you as fresh, crisp water splashes past!

Book Your Anniversary Stay Today

You know the date of your anniversary, (at least you should, and if you don’t figure it out soon you might be in trouble) so what are you waiting for? It’s never too early to start planning for your anniversary, and a last-minute stay is okay, too. Use our anniversary ideas in Washington State for inspiration on your getaway.

Our property is ideal for a romantic escape. Each of our private cabins has its own jetted tub, custom-made bed, fireplace, and secluded porch. You can even surprise your partner with a dozen roses or other delights to greet as you first step in to your cabin.

With the beautiful Columbia River Gorge and our luxury cabins – you can celebrate an anniversary you won’t soon forget!

Just an amazing cozy piece of heaven tucked away in the woods. So much to see and experience in the Gorge nearby. Make Carson Ridge your choice for a Honeymoon or Anniversary. Yes, it's that special. - Dan via Google Reviews

Washington state travel guide: Breathtaking national parks, the bustling city of Seattle and beyond

W ashington state is known for its wide range of stunning natural landscapes, from rugged coastlines to snow-capped mountain peaks to vibrant rainforests.

Cities like Seattle and Spokane offer their own array of cultural and culinary attractions.

Whether you are interested in outdoor adventure or simply taking in the scenery, the Evergreen State has something for every type of traveler.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL: 50 MUST-SEE LANDMARKS THAT TELL OUR NATIONAL STORY

Here's a deep dive.

Olympic National Park spans 70 miles of coastline and almost 1 million acres. This World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve offers anything you could want from a national park , like hiking, boating and the opportunity to see wild animals in their natural habitat in the temperate Hoh Rain Forest.

READ ON THE FOX NEWS APP

"It's one of those places that really embodies what you would consider the Evergreen State," Jennifer Coleman, publisher of the Scenic Washington road trip guidebook and the road map for Washington state , told Fox News Digital during a phone interview. "The beaches along the Pacific there are pretty wild. So, I always tell people, bring a raincoat and plan for wind. You know, it's not like going to the beach even in Oregon, where you can really lay out in the sun."

"I mean, OK, we do get sunny days, but it's just not the same as a little further south," Coleman added.

Visitors can observe ecosystems in miniature in the tide pools of Olympic National Park's beaches. And while there might not be many sunbathers, the park is a well-known destination for stargazers. About 95% of the park is designated as wilderness and is devoid of human-caused light, making for a spectacular view of the night sky.

This park is named for the many waterfalls along its hundreds of miles of trails. The clear, blue mountain waters of Lake Diablo and the park's other lakes and rivers offer opportunities for boat tours and fishing and make North Cascades Coleman's favorite of the state's three national parks.

She pointed out that although the park is remote, its beauty is accessible to those not up for a hike, since a driving trip along the North Cascades Scenic Highway still affords gorgeous views of mountain peaks, verdant trees and rushing waterfalls.

And for those who want a hands-on experience, North Cascades National Park is known for its climbing opportunities.

SPRINGTIME TRAVEL: 5 FLOWER GARDENS ACROSS 5 TIME ZONES SHOWCASING AMERICAN BEAUTY

Naturalists can keep their eyes peeled for the gray wolves, wolverines and more than 200 species of birds that call one of Earth's most diverse ecosystems home.

"It's sort of the iconic Washington thing, to go to Mount Rainier National Park," Coleman said. The mountain lies along several officially designated scenic byways for the road trippers out there, and it is the highest peak in the Evergreen State, rising 14,410 above sea level.

Since the park is so highly attended, a timed entry system will be implemented during the busiest months, from May to September, beginning in 2024. Reservations open 90 days in advance.

NATIONAL PARK WEEK: 15 SURPRISING FACTS ABOUT AMERICA'S PARKS YOU MAY NOT KNOW

This is the most popular state park for mountain climbing and skiing, with more than 20 climbing routes and ski descents. With its wilderness backpacking campsites and more than 260 miles of maintained trails, including some that are paved, hikers of all stripes can find the perfect trek.

Winter sports are popular in Mount Rainier National Park, but it is also known for its hundreds of species of wildflowers that bloom spectacularly over the summer.

Washington's largest city is also one of its main travel destinations and serves as the origin point for many of the road trips in Scenic Washington's guides. The city itself offers plenty to do.

The Emerald City is known for its food and drink scene: Japanese cuisine, craft beer, wine and especially coffee and seafood.

Starbucks is based in Seattle , so naturally, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery is located there, too. Think Willy Wonka's chocolate factory but for coffee, complete with a coffee bean library. Numerous smaller cafés are spread across the city as well for those who want a more unique espresso experience.

Tea houses and bakeries are in no short supply, either, in case you need to cool it on the caffeine.

Seattle sits on Puget Sound, where shellfish are readily available. The city is known for its oysters.

Visitors to Seattle can stop at one of its many museums, like the Museum of Pop Culture, or look for the Fremont Troll, a giant sculpture under the George Washington Memorial Bridge. The colorful, if a bit gross, Gum Wall near Pike Place Market is worth seeing, and the market is itself well-known for its craftspeople, restaurants and fishmongers.

But few Emerald City attractions are more iconic than the Space Needle. The Space Needle was originally built for the 1962 World’s Fair and has become perhaps the most recognizable element of the city skyline. In just 43 seconds, you can ride the elevator all the way to the observation deck, where you can see far and wide over the rest of Seattle.

Across the street from the Space Needle is Chihuly Garden and Glass, home to the works of renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly. The breathtaking installations make this TripAdvisor's top-rated Seattle attraction.

If the Space Needle is the most iconic component of Seattle's Skyline, the Great Wheel is No. 2. This Ferris wheel was built in 2012 and offers a different way to get a bird's eye view of the city and the surrounding mountains.

The Amazon Spheres provide an unexpected break from the hustle and bustle of the city with their four-story jungle-like interior, containing more than 40,000 plants. Another Washington-based company, Amazon, constructed the spheres to afford employees the tranquility of the rainforest without leaving the city. The Spheres are open to the public for free during the first and third Saturday of each month.

Kerry Park offers an extraordinary vista of the city skyline, Space Needle and all. On a clear day, Mount Rainier can be seen in the background. Photographers can often be found here as the sun goes down.

Washington's national parks and Seattle might be its most famous attractions, but you could see them all without even leaving the western half of the state — and even then, you would be missing other attractions in the west.

In the southwest of Washington, visitors can find the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, just south of Mount Rainier. "And that's a really cool place to go visit," Coleman said, "Because you can actually drive right up into the blast zone." The total devastation wrought by the volcano's 1980 eruption contrasts with the new growth that has regenerated in the area, making for a thought-provoking trip to a natural wonder that could easily be overshadowed by Mount Rainier.

The Columbia River Gorge isn't far away: "The Gorge is really a fantastic place. It's basically along the Columbia River, which is the river that separates us from Oregon. That whole gorge region … both the Washington and Oregon sides, is kind of like waterfall central," said Coleman.

Orcas, gray whales and humpback whales can be spotted in Washington's Puget Sound all year round, and whale-watching boat tours are available at multiple locations along the coast. Most boats won't get too close to the whales, as some are endangered and have been killed in collisions with ships. Make sure to dress warmly and bring your binoculars.

The eastern portion of the state is totally different from what many think of as the wet environs of the Pacific Northwest. On the other side of the Cascade mountain range, it gets dry and hot. The city of Spokane provides an urban hub for excursions eastward and, though smaller than Seattle, offers arts and culture, craft beer and wine, and other trappings of an urban center.

South of Spokane lies Pullman, where Washington State University is located. Further south still is Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in North America. Though it lies mostly in Oregon and Idaho, a portion of it does fall in southeastern Washington. This gorge is popular for high-speed jet-boating during the hot summers.

The warm, sunny weather makes the region great for agriculture. "Wine country" is in the center of the southern portion of the state. The region, as you might be able to guess, is known for its more than 300 vineyards and wineries.

There are many reasons to visit Washington state, but many visitors tend to fit within a certain profile, Coleman told Fox News Digital: "Everybody has their different thing that they're wanting to accomplish when they visit, but overall … if they've chosen Washington as their destination, chances are they're looking for outdoor recreation or, you know, scenic views, seafood or national parks."

US NATIONAL PARK ATTENDANCE SOARED IN 2023 AS MILLIONS OF AMERICANS CONTINUE TO HEAD OUTDOORS

That is why Scenic Washington offers pre-planned road trip itineraries. The popular Cascade Loop begins from Seattle and circles the northern half of the state. The Palouse Scenic Byway explores Washington's east, from its central desert lands to lakes and waterfalls to the rolling wheat fields of the Palouse region, which holds the largest concentration of wheat per acre in the world.

Tour the famous Van Gogh Museum and opt for a stay with Pulitzer Amsterdam to spend the night in one of 25 beautifully renovated canal homes. Consider booking your trip during tulip season (between March and May) to see the iconic flowers in bloom.

Los Cabos, Mexico

Suzi Eszterhas / Minden Pictures / Getty Images

Fly south to Mexico's stunning beaches for a relaxing stay at a luxury resort. Head to Los Cabos, where there are plenty of incredible properties to choose from. Book an all-inclusive stay at Garza Blanca Resort & Spa Los Cabos for the ultimate stress-free vacation. After paying one flat rate, you won't have to worry about taking your wallet wherever you go, so you can spend all that time unwinding with your partner.

Napa and Sonoma Valleys, California

California wine country has everything you need for a romantic trip, including rolling hills covered in vineyards, quaint luxury hotels, fantastic restaurants, and, of course, plenty of great wine. The North Block Hotel in Yountville, Auberge du Soleil in Napa Valley , and Farmhouse Inn in Sonoma wine country are all great places to stay in the region. If you want to explore wine country in a fun, old-school way, book a ride on the elegant Napa Valley Wine Train , which offers various tasting and dining options.

Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya

Crossing an African safari off your list is a truly unforgettable way to celebrate another year together. You can’t go wrong in Kenya, where Angama Mara will give you the full luxury safari camp treatment overlooking the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Keep an eye out for the Big Five — lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and African buffaloes — on your wildlife-spotting adventure.

Bavaria, Germany

Treat your partner like royalty with a trip to southwestern Germany. When you're not touring famous castles like Neuschwanstein in Bavaria, you can check out your very own queen's quarters — several historic castles have been converted into hotels or Airbnbs . Extend your trip with visits to fairy-tale villages like Rothenburg or Regensburg, or large, vibrant cities like Augsburg and Munich. If time allows, indulge in a relaxing soak or wellness treatment in the spa town of Baden-Baden, located next door in the German state of Baden-Württemberg.

Maui, Hawaii

Taylor McIntyre / Travel + Leisure

For the couple who wants to do a little bit of everything on vacation, Hawaii offers a mix of indulgent relaxation and active adventures. The island of Maui has beautiful beaches where you can enjoy the sand and surf, as well as hiking opportunities in the volcanic Haleakalā National Park . There are plenty of incredible hotels to choose from for your home base, including Hotel Wailea , a luxurious adults-only Relais & Chateaux property, or the Montage Kapalua Bay in West Maui.

Every second of your trip is bound to be special in the land of hot springs , glacial lagoons, and active volcanoes. With natural landscapes that include the Blue Lagoon and black-sand beaches, Iceland is mythic. Its otherworldly quality is heightened by dark skies and the chance to see the northern lights — something every couple should do together at least once. Check in to the Hotel Rangá for an aurora wake-up call during peak activity before heading out to the on-site observatory (or the outdoor hot tubs , if that’s more your style).

The Maldives

Celebrate your anniversary among the seclusion and romance of the Maldives. Less than a quarter of the nation’s 1,190 islands (comprising 26 atolls) are inhabited, so you’ll feel like you’ve landed on your own private island as you and your partner lounge in a classic overwater bungalow surrounded by colorful coral reefs and some of the bluest water on earth . You could also just rent a private island . With a multitude of all-inclusive offerings and luxury spots like the Komandoo Maldives Island Resort & Spa or the Outrigger Maldives Maafushivaru Resort , this Indian Ocean getaway really is a couples' paradise.

Key Largo and Key West, Florida

For a beach vacation a bit closer to the mainland (and easily accessible for East Coasters), head to the Florida Keys. Take a road trip down the Overseas Highway , connecting Miami to Key West, and stop for fresh seafood, great snorkeling, Key lime pie, and stunning views along the way. Bungalows Key Largo is an adults-only, all-inclusive option, while the Oceans Edge Resort & Marina offers ocean views in a serene setting about five miles from downtown Key West.

Sedona, Arizona

Spend your anniversary among the famous red rocks, world-class spas, and mystical vortexes (energy hot spots for prime healing and meditation) of Sedona. Striated canyons and flowering cacti create the backdrop for this spiritual capital. The property at L'Auberge de Sedona includes luxury accommodations like spa cottages, which have a fireplace, a jetted tub, and an outdoor cedar shower on the large, private terrace just steps away from the resort’s spa. Couples can indulge in sound healing, stargazing, and hot-air balloon rides over the Arizona desert for an anniversary to remember.

New York City

There’s no shortage of special experiences to be had in New York City, whatever your style or budget. Perhaps you’d like to spend the day roaming the halls of The Metropolitan Museum of Art before catching a Broadway show. Maybe you’re a luxury-loving couple who prefers to window shop along Fifth Avenue before eating the best meal of your life at Eleven Madison Park . Or you might check into a suite at The Lowell , one of the best hotels in New York City , and just… never leave until your return flight home (no shame!). The Big Apple has a wide selection of gorgeous accommodations — from trendy boutique properties downtown and in Brooklyn to historic hotels on the Upper East Side — so you won’t have any trouble finding an exceptional home base for your trip.

Charleston, South Carolina

The South has plenty of small towns and historic cities that are ideal for a romantic getaway, but Charleston’s charming streets, decadent dining, and Southern hospitality put this Lowcountry locale above and beyond for an anniversary trip. Some of the best things to do in Charleston include strolling arm-in-arm along King Street, ordering a round of biscuits and fried green tomatoes at a table for two, and bonding on the links at one of South Carolina's renowned golf courses . As for accommodations, The Loutrel provides boutique charm, a rooftop terrace, and beautifully appointed rooms and suites for your stay in the Holy City.

Santorini, Greece

Monica Farber / Travel + Leisure

Whitewashed towns, some of the best beaches in Greece , and deep-blue calderas all help Greece remain a favorite among honeymooners and other amorous travelers. The biggest decision to make when planning a Greek sojourn is which island (or islands) to put on your itinerary. Greece has six main archipelagos with one popular standout among tourists: the Cyclades, where you'll find Santorini. We recommend checking in to the Grace Hotel, Auberge Resorts Collection , and exploring the island's terraces and windmills for quality couple time.

The Seychelles

Pink sand, secluded spots, and glittering waters converge in this remote part of the world. An African archipelago in the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Africa and a selection of isolated luxury resorts, making it a premier romantic location. The islands are resplendent in polished granite cliffs, aromatic spice plantations, and Creole food. The Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island is the perfect private island escape for any couple looking to get away from it all and unwind with stargazing sessions for two, tranquil walks along untouched beaches, and dips in the pool outside your own villa.

Look beyond the misty ruins of Machu Picchu and embrace Peru’s cosmopolitan side. In Lima, the country’s capital city, you and your partner can dine on ceviche and sip pisco sours — when you're not dancing at discos and touring Baroque catacombs, that is. Make the charming Miraflores neighborhood your home base at Miraflores Park, A Belmond Hotel , for stylish accommodations, scenic breakfasts at The Observatory restaurant on the 11th floor, and private dips in your personal plunge pool off the presidential pool suite. Stroll hand-in-hand along El Malecón, the six-mile clifftop boardwalk that borders the Pacific, before making your way to the bohemian Barranco neighborhood for street art and Peruvian chocolate .

Tokyo, Hakone, or Kyoto, Japan

yongyuan / Getty Images

Whether it’s spring strolls through cherry blossom showers in Kyoto, slurping your way through ramen shops in Tokyo, or dipping into the onsens (hot springs) of Hakone, Japan is one of the best places to vacation as a couple. You and your partner will stay busy in Tokyo exploring ancient temples, navigating the hustle and bustle of the famed city streets, and indulging in world-class fare, from Michelin-starred sushi to squid-ink sticky buns at Tsukiji Market . If your anniversary falls in the winter months, consider a cold-weather trip to Kyoto , where you can find lodging at one of the city’s many resorts or hotels.

The Amalfi Coast, Lake Como, or Venice, Italy

Getty Images

Channel Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (before all the murder, of course) with a romantic Italian holiday. Get your fill of oysters and Mediterranean views at Le Sirenuse in Positano on the Amalfi Coast, impeccably manicured gardens at Grand Hotel Tremezzo in Lake Como, or yacht-spotting along the Italian Riviera. When (or, rather, if ) you tire of the beach, take a train to Venice for culture, art, and gondola rides. Sip Bellinis with the jet set by the Olympic pool at Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel , where you’ll soak in your marble bathroom after a day of boat rides around the lagoon and tours of Piazza San Marco.

European River Cruise

Tu xa Ha Noi / Getty Images

For some travelers, river cruises combine all the excitement that comes with visiting multiple destinations in one trip with the convenience of only having to unpack once. Explore Europe's medieval villages, historic metropolises, and romantic wine regions on a tour of the Danube, Rhine, or Douro river.
