How To Spend A Weekend In Norfolk, UK – Itinerary & Maps

I just got back from an idyllic weekend in Norfolk, somewhere I hadn’t been for years. Norfolk was a second home for me growing up because my grandparents lived there and my mum grew up there. However, since my grandma passed away five years ago, I hadn’t been back. Since the first half of 2020 had been incredibly… indoorsy, I couldn’t wait for my trip. As an adult, I found new appreciation for England ‘s scenery and quaint, country-bumpkin charm.

Cost of a weekend in Norfolk

Norfolk is in the middle when it comes to the cost of UK travel . It’s cheaper than London but more expensive than cities in the north of the UK. Prices are lower in more rural parts of Norfolk, however the North Norfolk coast (where this Norfolk itinerary takes place) is popular with holidaymakers and families so fairly pricey these days.

Norfolk itinerary

If you have just two days in Norfolk, omit one of the days below. For a city break, include Norwich and one of the coastal days. For a countryside break with lots of beaches, walks and quaint villages, skip Norwich and follow my itinerary for days 2 and 3. If you’re lucky enough to have a 3-day weekend in Norfolk, include this whole Norfolk itinerary.

Where to stay during a weekend in Norfolk

This really depends whether you want to stay near restaurants and amenities or reside somewhere rural for a relaxing break. Where to stay in Norwich: Wellington Self-Catering Apartments (£71pn) // Nearby splash-out: Dunston Hall (£83pn) . Where to stay North Norfolk coast: Lawns Spa Apartment sleeps 4 (Holt) // Bakery Central apartment sleeps 2 (Cromer). Browse Norfolk hotels, guesthouses and self-catering apartments on Booking.com .

Day 1 – explore Norwich

Norwich Cathedral weekend in Norfolk

Whether you’re staying in Norwich or visiting as a day trip, follow my Norfolk itinerary to see the best of this historical and charming city in just one day. I adore Norwich. It’s similar to my home city of Oxford although I hate to say, slightly nicer! Norwich has bags of history from the cathedral to the timbered homes dating back hundreds of years. There are independent shops and plenty of cool, modern cafes. As I found out while visiting a friend at uni here a few years back, there’s also a lively nightlife. Basically, Norwich has everything going for it. It doesn’t feel like a big, busy city so it’s a relaxing addition to your weekend in Norfolk.

Period building Norwich

Norwich one day itinerary

Norwich Cathedral : As one of the 12 heritage sites in Norfolk, this is one of the many places to get your culture fix. Take in 900 years of history by wandering Cathedral Close, the cloisters and the Japanese gardens. Finally, enjoy coffee and cake in the Refectory Cafe. Entrance to Norwich Cathedral is free. Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery : You can’t miss this huge medieval castle in the heart of Norwich. Dating back to 1067, it was built by William the Conqueror as protection from his enemies. It stands to this day with a museum and art gallery inside. Check out exhibitions and special events on the What’s On page .

Quayside Norwich

View of Quayside from Fye Bridge Street: When you look up Norwich on Instagram, you’ll likely see this colourful scene. Quayside can be found in north Norwich, not far from the cathedral. Be sure to cross the river via Fye Bridge. Not only are there some cool restaurants and bars on the other side, but you’ll soak up these views along the way. Strangers’ Hall : This Grade I listed building dating back to the 14th century is one of the most historically important places in Norwich. You can take a tour inside, visit the Great Hall, Parlour, Chambers and Walnut Room, gifted by an ex-mayor of Norwich. Norwich Lanes : These winding alleyways have been around since medieval times. In recent years, they’ve become a modern shopping and dining area home to 300+ local businesses. There’s even a cinema and several galleries and live music venues. Food options include brunch, lunch, global cuisine, vegan food, cake, coffee and cocktails.

Eating & drinking in Norwich

Norwich Market: An awesome place to eat in Norwich is this static outdoor market with over 200 stalls. It’s one of the oldest markets in the country dating back to Norman times. Nowadays, the market is hosted inside colourful beach huts. You can buy anything from groceries and fresh goods to Asian street food, classic English fish ‘n’ chips, ice cream and even trinkets and jewellery. It’s open from Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Explore the cafes and coffee shops: We ate a global vegan feast of bao buns and Mexican chilaquiles at Tipsy Vegan and washed it down with quirky skull-shaped coffees at The Alchemist . We also indulged in afternoon cake and gin cocktails at The Merchant’s House , a charming cafe down by the river with an outdoor courtyard. Sadly, we missed Bicycle Shop Cafe , a boho eaterie with live music. Next time!

Bao bun Tipsy vegan Norwich

Nightlife in Norwich: There are a few clubs in Norwich and plenty of stylish bars. One particularly quirky venue is Arboretum , a cocktail bar inside an antique shop. Don’t miss The Wallow , a self-service wine bar with wines from around the world, paired with tapas. Parking in Norwich: If you’re visiting Norwich for the day by car, there are a few options. You can park at the airport, or one of the other Park & Rides in Norwich , and take a quick bus into the city. Alternatively, park at Chantry Place, a shopping mall with a large multi-storey parking area. Parking costs £3 per 2 hours.

North Norfolk Coast – day 1

The next two days of my Norfolk itinerary will take you along the North Norfolk coast, stopping at charming towns and villages like Blakeney and Holt as well as beautiful beaches and coastal walks. I’ll shout out some favourite cafes and restaurants to enhance your weekend in Norfolk. Fingers crossed you have good weather! Since there are a few drives required between these destinations, it’s best to leave early if possible. We had breakfast in our Airbnb and either packed sandwiches or ate out at lunchtime, finishing the day with dinner in a local restaurant or a takeaway back in our apartment. We managed to pack lots into our days out. Here are the stops we made…

Morning – Wells-next-the-Sea & Holkham

We began our North Norfolk weekend in the small town of Wells-next-the-Sea, which we debated should be called Wells-next-TO-the-Sea but then again, does it need to be any longer? We started our day by sipping excellent coffee at GROUND , a speciality coffee shop in the heart of town. They serve strong flat whites, cappuccinos and iced coffee, perfect on a summer’s day.

Beach at Wells-next-the-Sea

Although I didn’t eat here, the cakes looked fantastic and I hear great things about the sausage rolls. If exposed brick and mini cacti aren’t your aesthetic of choice, there are plenty of other coffee shops in Wells like Bang in Wells , Nelsons and Grey Seal Coffee .

Other things to do in Wells include:

  • Browsing the shops and relaxing at the harbour. Pick up a takeaway lunch from one of the many delis and eat at the waterfront.
  • Visiting Holkham National Nature Reserve and Holkham Hall . This 18th-century house boasts 25,000 acres of land and two types of deer. You could easily spend a whole day taking woodland walks and stopping for lunch in the cafe. Check if any events at Holkham coincide with your trip.
  • If you have time, take a trip to Holkham Beach or spot birdlife around the wetlands. Stop at The Lookout for respite (and cake). While you could spend a whole day around Holkham and Wells, we whizzed around the highlights in the morning to see more of North Norfolk in the afternoon.

Afternoon – Blakeney

Depart Wells and drive 20 minutes along the North Norfolk coast to Blakeney, another of my top picks for a Norfolk weekend. This scenic village is known for its seal boat trips and bird-watching opportunities. Whether you’re a nature lover or not, Blakeney is worth a visit to wander Blakeney Nature Reserve with views of the coastline.

Blakeney Nature Reserve

Blakeney Point boat trip: From Blakeney, you can visit the largest seal colony in England with more than 2,000 pups born each year. Plenty of boats depart Blakeney harbour daily but a great option is to board a cruise with Beans Boat Trips from Mortson, just up the road. This will take you along the tributary to Blakeney Point where the seals and their pups can be seen during summer months. Boat trips run year-round.

Blakeney Harbour north Norfolk

Blakeney Guildhall: This ancient house belonging to a rich Blakeney merchant dates back to the 15th century. It’s right in the centre of Blakeney so it’s easy to quickly stop by.

Food and drink in Blakeney

Crab sandwich The Moorings Blakeney

The Moorings – This seafood restaurant beside Blakeney Guildhall shouldn’t be missed. I’d been wanting a famous Norfolk crab sandwich throughout my weekend in Norfolk and was thrilled to find one. As well as takeaway food, it’s also a sit-down restaurant serving fresh catches of the day, risotto, crab salads and fish chowder. Portions are large and prices are reasonable; my crab sandwich was £5. Blakeney Delicatessen – This lovely deli is set back from busy Blakeney Harbour on a quiet backstreet. They sell freshly-baked bread, takeaway coffees and deli meals to heat at home like lamb tagine, moussaka and green Thai curry. If you’re staying in an Airbnb with kitchen facilities, why not pick something up for dinner? Ice Cream Shop Blakeney – Well, no prizes for guessing what this place sells! We ate delicious, locally-made ice cream at this stall beside Blakney Guildhall. An essential for a sunny weekend in Norfolk.

Norfolk Coastal Path

Norfolk coastal walk

Another idea, if you have time, is to take a peaceful walk away from the crowds. This section of the Norfolk Coast Path runs from Blakeney to Morston, taking in scenery of the tributaries that join the sea. The walk takes around 1 hour 10 minutes. Escaping the tourist spots and relaxing with a thermos of tea was one of my favourite memories from my weekend in Norfolk.

Cley Windmill

Cley Windmill Norfolk itinerary

After a busy day in Wells and Blakeney, we made a quick pitstop before heading back to our Airbnb. Luckily, we had great weather during our visit. Since I spend so much time outside of Europe, I always marvel at how long our summer months are. You can pack so much into a day! Cley is a small village put on the map thanks to Cley Windmill . The impressive five-storey windmill was built in the early 19th century and has been a much-loved feature of the area since. Nowadays, it’s an upmarket holiday let with a restaurant onsite. Even so, it’s worth admiring from the outside. We stopped by for some photos and then took a walk through the charming streets of Cley. There aren’t any ‘must-sees’ here and for that reason, we were some of the only tourists. It was charming in a different way to bustling Wells and Blakeney. If you’re hungry and love kippers, prawns and crab, don’t miss Cley Smokehouse where local fish is freshly prepared and sold for takeaway.

Day 2 – North Norfolk Coast

For our final day, we continued our Norfolk itinerary to Holt, Sheringham and Cromer. This was quite a busy day so remove one destination for a more leisurely weekend in Norfolk.

Sheringham Norfolk weekend

Another idyllic destination to add to your Norfolk itinerary is Sheringham. This historic fishing village has an attractive promenade, several nearby walks and a sandy beach. You’ll find it busy with families and kids in the summer months. If you visit on a Saturday, you can browse Sheringham Open Air Market . A fun thing to do is catch the scenic railway between Sheringham and Holt. With almost two hundred years’ history, the railway is a beloved feature of Norfolk. These days, it’s not the fastest way to get anywhere but it’s a fun experience with several dining cart experiences . Did someone say pudding and Prosecco cart? Sold. Other things to do in Sheringham including climbing Beeston Bump for coastal views, learning about the history at the Fishermen’s Heritage Centre and checking out Sheringham Art and Sculpture trail.

Railway Sheringham to Holt

Where to eat and drink in Sheringham

The Sitting Room : As the name suggests, this cafe has the feel of being in someone’s (well-designed) sitting room. Enjoy hearty lunch dishes, cake and coffee surrounded by homey touches. There are plenty of options for vegetarians. Pungleperry’s : Who could say no to a dessert and coffee bar? With desserts on offer including hot fudge sundaes, banana splits and ice cream cookie sandwiches, it’s a retro feast. The Offshore Coffee House : For the best cafe views in Sheringham, check out this cute cafe. While the coffee and cake are worth visiting for, the highlight might be perching yourself on a table outside and gazing out to sea.

Just 15 minutes from Sheringham by car or steam heritage train is Holt, a scenic town beside the coast. There are plenty of adorable antique shops and cosy cafes, making it the perfect stop for afternoon respite. Take the Holt Owl Trail around town, stopping at plaques on the ground marking the key landmarks in Holt.Use any extra time to visit Holt Country Park . With 100 acres of woodland, there are plenty of walking trails to take.

Where to eat and drink in Holt

Folly Tearoom – This gorgeous tearoom with an outside courtyard is the best place for afternoon tea during a weekend in Norfolk. Expect mismatched crockery, kettles dressed in tea cosies, homemade scones and generous portions of everything. Wells Deli – This Holt cafe serves dishes from around the world which are done surprisingly well. Tuck into chilli con carne, nachos and pastel de natas, washed down with coffee. The Black Apollo – The best place to grab a coffee and pastry in Holt. Everything is freshly made onsite. Horatio’s – For locally sourced ingredients and enormous English fry ups, head straight to Horatio’s.

Cromer Pier

Unless you’re visiting during the summer, you may want to visit Cromer earlier in the day. However, during our August visit, we visited around 6pm, ate fish ‘n’ chips on the pier and watched the sun go down from Cromer Pier. It was a lovely way to end our Norfolk weekend.

Cromer Norfolk

Cromer is your typical holiday destination and very busy during the summer. Famous Cromer Pier is one of the last of its kind to hold a variety show twice a year. But beware, some report that Cromer Pier is haunted by the souls of restless boatmen! Other things to do in Cromer include visiting the church of St Peter & Paul, Cromer Museum, Henry Blogg Museum, trying your hand at crabbing, and spotting the SS Fernebo shipwreck at the west end of the beach (visible when the tide is out). With any free time, you can visit Felbrigg Hall , a 17th-century National Trust property with a fantastic walled garden, lake and woodland full of wildlife. Another nearby National Trust property is Blickling Hall , a stately home in Aylsham. If all else fails, relax on Cromer Beach!

Where to eat and drink in Cromer

Mary Jane’s Fish Bar – If you eat fish ‘n’ chips anywhere in North Norfolk, make sure it’s here. Mary Jane’s has been serving fish ‘n’ chips for more than 40 years and during summer months, the queue winds down the street and around the corner. It’s worth the wait! Bann Thai Restaurant – Norfolk isn’t renowned for Asian food but this Thai restaurant is a favourite in Cromer with friendly owners and authentic dishes. These include Panang mussels, Bangkok chicken, tom yum soup and spicy salads. There are plenty of vegan dishes.

Visiting the UK?  Guidebooks – LP always get my seal of approval. Use the latest copy of Lonely Planet England . Flights (international and domestic) – I use Skyscanner to find the best-value flights, using the ‘search by month’ tool to find the cheapest dates. You can also use the ‘to anywhere’ feature if you’re flexible on where you’re going. Car hire – use Rentalcars.com to compare car rentals in the UK (and all around the world). For UK trains , I use Trainline . The search feature allows you to compare prices, and they show live departure times on the website. For buses , I use Busbud . It’s the only site that compares UK coaches and buses. Find London to Manchester journeys for £1!  For hotels and self-catering apartments, I use Booking.com . You can filter by review score and price to find the best-rated budget places. For hostels, I use Hostelworld.com . To save money on accommodation, I use Trusted Housesitters , a website that connects homeowners going away and travellers who can sit their homes & pets. I use GetYourGuide for tours & activities when I don’t want to travel solo. The guides are knowledgeable and you can’t beat the prices. I also check Viator as they often have fun and unique offerings. Need travel insurance ? I use True Traveller (for UK & Europe residents) since it’s affordable but covers everything you’d need including various activities, valuables and pre-existing conditions. Unlike some companies, they insure you if you’re already travelling / don’t yet have your flight home booked. Get a quote . For travel insurance for other nationalities, I recommend Hey Mundo and for long-term digital nomad travellers, I suggest Safety Wing . Check out my resources page for more travel discounts and budget tips from my 10+ years on the road!

Wells-next-the-Sea

Known simply as Wells, the pretty harbour town lies between the bird sanctuary at Blakeney Point and the fabulous Holkham Bay .

With a harbour sheltered by salt marshes from the open sea, Wells was one of the great Tudor ports of East Anglia. Today, the harbour is used by sailing and crabbing boats and is watched over by a distinctive granary dating from 1904.

Set in North Norfolk’s AONB, Wells town has a fine Georgian square and a good mix of independent traditional and contemporary shops.

Wells is probably best known for its long line of colourful wooden beach huts, which you can find if you take a walk through the pinewoods to beautiful Wells beach .

Wells-next-the-Sea & Around Highlights

  • Crabbing on Wells quay, the crabbing spot on the North Norfolk Coast. Yes, you can crab in lots of other places, but this is where you’ll get the best catch because of the abundance of estuarial and creek waters that crabs like living in. I used to crab here every summer, and my kids crabbed here too!

Crabbing Tips

If you’re new to crabbing, it involves dropping a baited line into the water and waiting for the crab to take the bait, so you can pull him/her gently up. All you need are a line, bucket, net and bait, which you can buy all over town.

  • When I was a kid, the best bait was raw bacon with rind (who knew?), but anything like chicken, small fish or even dog food works. I even used a bit from inside a pie once!
  • The best crabbing takes place as the tide is coming in – crabs are clever and know when the tide is heading out and bury themselves in the mud.
  • If you need to hold the crab, do so on either side behind the pincers.
  • Be prepared and have your bucket full of salt water with your net to hand.
  • No more than three crabs to a bucket, and try and keep the bucket shady. Crabs don’t have much sun protection!
  • Wait – crabbing is a game of patience and you will be rewarded, I promise!
  • Don’t keep the crabs too long, and definitely don’t take them home as pets (the crabs you catch here are also not edible). Pop them back into the sea gently with thanks for being your captive!
  • Visiting the small village of Holkham, which boasts the 18th century Holkham Hall stately home, the vast Holkham Beach, properly known as Holkham Gap, and the Holkham National Nature Reserve. There’s a lot going on here!
  • Spending a day on award-winning Wells Beach , with endless expanses of soft, golden sand perfect for sandcastle building, raised and sheltered dunes to picnic in, space to fly a kite or play games, and the beautiful clear water of the North Sea.
  • Eating fish and chips from the wrapper on the harbour wall. The best traditional fish and chips in Wells come from French’s Fish Shop , right on the quay.
  • If crab (and lobster) is more your thing, the best place for fresh and local crab is Wells Crab House , a small family-run restaurant serving crab caught locally that day.

Where to Stay in Wells-next-the-Sea

The Globe has been beautifully revamped to just the right degree, meaning it’s still at the heart of local village life, but offers luxuriously elegant accommodation in a central Wells location.

10 Best Stops on a North Norfolk Coast Road Trip

This summer we decided to go on a road trip along the North Norfolk Coast. We camped near Cromer, and used every day to explore more of our surroundings. We did this so we didn’t need to set up camp every day, but this Norfolk road trip itinerary could totally be done with a night in each place instead. Up to you.

We booked and planned our North Norfolk Coast road trip pretty last minute, and neither of us had ever been before. Turns out, we did pretty well in the planning!

Sheringham in North Norfolk

If you’re planning on doing a road trip along the North Norfolk Coast any time soon, let me show you the best spots to include in your itinerary.

I’ll start from west to east…

North Norfolk Coast Road Trip

Here’s the map of the North Norfolk Coast itinerary – I’d recommend at least three days to do it in. As you can see, it’s not much driving, but you’ll want to take it slow, and maybe stop off at a few other spots along the way. Always good to keep things open when you’re hitting the road!

1. King’s Lynn

First stop, King’s Lynn.

When I was a teenager I watched a programme about some kids from King’s Lynn, and I don’t know why the place stuck in my head, but it did. I’ve always wanted to go for some reason, and see that iconic view of the boats in the harbour.

norfolk trip cost

We actually ended up being a bit rushed as our ticket for Sandringham was timed, and it was the last slot of the day. Still though, we got the important things done, and had some food. It was a tough decision between the Soul Cafe, and Liquor & Loaded, but there was just something about the vibe there that seemed more exciting.

norfolk trip cost

After that we had a mooch down to the river, and a little look at the shops, but had to rush back through the main town to make our time.

I feel there was a lot more to King’s Lynn than we had time for, but I liked what I saw and would definitely recommend you carve out a few hours for it on your Norfolk road trip. There were some fantastic buildings there.

2. Sandringham

I really wanted to go and visit the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk . I just have this thing for Kate and Wills, and I thought it was where they lived. I had visions of just seeing them wander down the streets.

Turns out it’s just their country residence, but still fun to visit all the same.

So, instead we dutifully played our part as tourists. We paid our £7 to enter a building our tax money has been funding for years, and had a wander. So glamorous there. Funny to think of the royal family playing out on the lawn, and we tried to guess which rooms were theirs.

Exploring Sandringham

If you book early enough, you can look round inside Sandringham, but we didn’t, so our tickets were just for the gardens. We spent an hour admiring the building from the outside, and wandering the extensive grounds and gardens.

A little look in the shops, and we left.

Road trip to north norfolk

Sandringham is such a lovely place to be around, especially on a nice, sunny day like we had. You can enter the larger park for free, but you need to pay admission to go in the gates.

If you’re visiting the north coast of Norfolk on a road trip, then I’d totally recommend fitting in a little visit here.

3. Hunstanton and Old Hunstanton Beaches

We were told that Hunstanton Beach is the best beach in Norfolk. I need further investigation of Norfolk beaches to confirm, but the sunset here was magical.

I’d recommend you book a night’s hotel in Hunstanton for your North Norfolk road trip. It’s definitely a great place for the evening, and this way you can enjoy your dinner and a drink at one of the seafront bars. You won’t get a sunset like this anywhere else in Norfolk, because of its unique westerly direction.

We saw people paddleboarding, sunbathing, boozing and just hanging out here, it was fab. Only thing though, the rubbish everywhere kinda ruined the vibe.

Hunstanton is for people who like their beaches a little more built up, while Old Hunstanton is for those who like them a bit wilder. They’re not far apart, so take your pick!

My top tip though, start at Old Hunstanton Beach and walk up to Hunstanton – that way you’ll get the best of both worlds, and end up at the bars and restaurants to carry on your evening.

4. Holkham Hall and Estate

Holkham Hall is one of the top things to see in Norfolk . It’s not far from Hunstanton, and on the way to your next stop Wells Next the Sea – so, makes for the perfect next stop on your Norfolk road trip itinerary.

Here you can enjoy a wildlife safari, special events year round, and a food and drink market too. There’s a cafe, a woodland experience, a park, cycle hire, and boat hire too. Enough for a whole day of fun at Holkham Hall!

The stunning coastal landscape, magnificent stately home, rolling parkland and a host of attractions and events, make Holkham a wonderful place to visit. – HOLKHAM HALL AND ESTATE

5. Wells Next the Sea

Wells Next the Sea is a lovely little town, and everybody who visits Norfolk knows it. It’s a very popular spot. We parked up at the very expensive car park on the water front and wandered up the shopping streets.

You’ll find souvenir shops, hipster coffee shops and a few clothing and beauty shops too. Visit on a quiet day and it’s very picturesque. We picked up a sausage roll from Ground, after seeing their signs claiming to be the best – sadly, they definitely over hyped themselves there, and they were priiicey.

Norfolk road trip

One of the most popular things to do in Wells Next the Sea is to get some fish and chips from French’s Fish and Chips shop, and then sit and eat them on the harbour wall. So many people doing this around lunch time.

We decided to walk along the coast instead, from the town out to see the sea at the other side. Took longer than we thought but I’m glad we didn’t drive as when we got there, the car park was totally full and people had to turn back.

norfolk trip cost

The beach and sea were a British seaside haven – extensive and shallow, you could see for miles. The beach huts are very popular here, and apparently cost a fortune. We didn’t actually have any beach attire with us, and so after a look around and a drone flight, we decided to walk back again.

If you want to visit Wells Next the Sea on your Norfolk Coast road trip, I can recommend Stearman’s Yard car park – it’s much cheaper and has toilets too.

Wells Next the Sea would be another great place to find some accommodation for the night, especially if you’ve spent the day at Holkham Hall. I’d imagine it’d be really pretty here as the sun goes down.

If you want to see more of Wells Next the Sea, check out this North Norfolk Coast walking itinerary I put together.

6. Blakeney Reserve

Blakeney Reserve is known for its amazing seal population. Head out on a boat trip and they’re everywhere!

Make sure you book your seal trip beforehand though, as we tried the day before, and there was no chance. Despite being a Wednesday in September, they were fully booked up until the week after. We had to miss out on that excursion.

Just FYI, I was told that Beans was the best one to join.

Norfolk coast road trip

We still decided to visit Blakeney, to see what all the fuss was about. We found another expensive car park on the water front (£4.50!), although I refused and we parked up at the Blakeney Hotel.

There was some great looking seafood food trucks here, but we headed to the White Horse pub. Lovely place and they let me plug in my phone to charge (#camplife).

TBH, there wasn’t really that much to do in Blakeney if you’re not doing a seal trip. Get that booked in as soon as you know you’re going. Prices start from around £13.

7. Sheringham

We hired bikes from Huff and Puff and cycled into Sheringham along the coast. The views were incredible.

Cycle or walk the coast road to see beaches like these…

Road trip in North Norfolk

If possible, I’d definitely recommend you hire these bikes before and book them in, so they can be delivered to your campsite. It was a bit of a faff getting there, although there was free parking all day so that was good.

Another top tip for you: when you do pick up your bikes, pay attention to the sheet he gives you with the routes on. We ended up lost in what was apparently some ladies back garden, and she wasn’t happy about it.

Exploring Sheringham in Norfolk

Eventually we made it to Sheringham though. Lovely little place.

There are so many great looking restaurants in Sheringham that I’d estimate we wandered round the whole place about 7 times as we were so indecisive about where to eat.

I went for a crab sandwich from Joyful West’s Shellfish Bar.

While Ben had what I’m pretty sure were THE best fish and chips I have EVER tasted. I’ve just spent 10 minutes trying to find it on Google Maps – it’s hiding. There was a massive queue outside, it was navy blue, sure it was called O!, and it was on the High Street near Fat Ted’s. Good luck.

Honestly, I feel I could go back just for them.

As for the rest of Sheringham there’s a lovely big beach, cute beach huts and a full high street to enjoy.

Cromer is usually a highlight on anyone’s list of things to do in North Norfolk. Cromer Pier and Pavilion are renowned in pier and pavilion circles, and we were lucky enough to time our trip just right to be sat at No1 Restaurant with a great view over it, just at sunset .

We didn’t actually realise how legendary the No1 Restaurant in Cromer was, until I put it on Instagram that is. The fish and chips in there were YUM, and we had crab starters too. Well, it was Eat Out to Help Out time, so we thought we’d make the most of it.

Things to do on the Norfolk Coast

Other things to do in Cromer include shopping, eating ice cream, picking up some sweets on the pier, and just wandering along the coast. The waves were pretty ferocious here during our September visit, so there was no chance we were going in the sea.

9. Norfolk Broads

Ok, so the North Norfolk part of your road trip is done, now’s the time to hit the Norfolk Broads – the place to be!

Fun fact for you, there are more miles of canals in the Norfolk Broads than in Venice. Crazy hey?!

on the boats on the norfolk broads

Here you can either hire a boat for the day and drive yourself, or, you can join one of the tours, like we did. I’d fully intended to hire a boat, but the weather wasn’t very good and neither of us knew what we were doing or where we were going.

As you’ll have been able to pick up in this Norfolk road trip itinerary – we weren’t very well prepared!

Day on the Norfolk Broads

Still had a great time on board the Vintage Broadsman Belle of the Broads though. Even if they did make us sit outside in the rain. These multi-hour trips are a great way to see more of the broad, with some commentary and someone else taking on the responsibility of navigating and steering.

boats in the Norfolk Broads

We paid £20 for three hours of chilling on the broads, looking into people’s windows, and learning more about life around here.

10. Norwich

We finished off our North Norfolk road trip with a day looking around Norfolk’s capital, Norwich.

Elm Hill in Norwich

Norwich Cathedral is the big thing to see here, along with pretty Elm Hill, and Norwich Castle too. Unfortunately neither Norwich Castle nor the Cathedral were open when we were there, thanks to the virus. But both looked magnificent and you can still admire them from the outside.

norfolk trip cost

We did, however, find an amazing Japanese restaurant open –  Shiki .

I love sushi. I’ve eaten a lot of sushi, both in Asia, and England, and I can honestly say this was some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Possibly, the , in England.

where to eat in norwich

I went for spicy tuna for a starter and then yakisoba for a main, and it was just sensational. Such good fish, so tasty, and so well put together. I just loved it.

We sat outside as they were so busy and we hadn’t booked, but it meant we could watch Norwich on an evening so suited me just fine!

Exploring Norfolk

We stayed a night in Norwich (Premier Inn was only £30!) and so for breakfast we wandered over to the famous Norwich Market. I had a massive bacon bap for mine, and they had coffee for 70p!

Exploring Norwich

Although, being the coffee snob I am I went to the roasters a few stalls up for £2.60. We sat on a bench in the centre and people watched as we ate.

There are plenty of great shops in Norwich to keep you busy and entertained, and you have to check out the super cool Castle Quarter too – you’ll love it!

Communication with airline electronically was difficult. No number seemed available to talk to customer service.

What could have been better is if Discover credit card would be able to purchase food

Crew was inconsistent in instructions in advising passengers about seat backs during take off. Perfunctory announcements except from cabin.

The experience with Breeze was really great. The app makes managing flights easy. You can check in on there 24 hours in advance, and your boarding pass is there, too. The flight crew and the staff at both our airports were wonderful. Snacks and drinks were reasonably priced. The seats were very comfortable, they even had adjustable headrests on every seat. The only downside is not having entertainment or Wi-Fi available onboard.

The price is amazing. I was worried about how the flight would be as I never flew then. Seats were very comfortable. We had lots of legroom. The Akron airport was really nice. Overall it didn't have the stress we usually experience with flying. Highly recommend

Flight delayed and moved to another gate. Got a text message updating the gate as final boarding finished. Missed flight, fighting for my refund

Prior to boarding we were told the flight was still on time up until about 20 minutes after the scheduled departure time. Details on the new departure time and gate were not provided to us in a timely fashion and we were lead to board a flight to Pittsburgh only to realized upon scanning my boarding pass that it was the wrong flight when signage at the gate said Providence. However, once on board the plane was comfortable and staff courteous and nice.

The flight was delayed but we got to our final destination.

Boarding was great. The flight landed early. It took the crew over an hour and a half to bring out drinks. I paid to upgrade my seat to Comfort+ only to be near a crying/screaming baby who was seldom quiet. Noise-cancelling earbuds didn’t even help. Waste of money to upgrade.

Seats in first class on the E175 recline too far back. I was in 2A, and the man in 1A fully reclined almost the entire flight. It took 6-7 inches of space away from me and made it very difficult to work on my laptop.

On 2 different flights the wifi was horrible and there was no drink or snack service.

Wifi wasn’t working well so we couldn't view any media.

Flight was late. Club was full. Experience is exactly what I expected.

Carly the flight attendant was extremely helpful and very accommodating to passengers on the flight from what I noticed. Couldn't be more satisfied with the service and assistance from Delta's flight attendant, Thanks again Carly!!

I didn’t not like that I could not select my seat and ended up with the worse seat.

I didn’t like that I could not select my seat and was assigned a seat when I checked in at LAX

Delta did an awful job w logistics at DTW. Missed connection. We were there an hour early. SUCKED

Nice flight, nice crew but no cookie or napkin with my seltzer.

Trip was smooth bumpy from the wind but no issues at all the crew attendant was very pleasant and had great customer service

This was a Lufthansa flight. Disappointing main meal. Very rough over Canada and arrival at FRA. IFE was almost unusable.

It got me where I needed it to; not much more. It had no competition so that was why I chose it.

I liked everything about the flight. The service was excellent!

The customer service was excellent! Check-in, baggage check-in, boarding, the flight went very smooth.

The flight was delayed instead of leaving at 11 it left at 12.20

United WiFi is consistently unusable (it can take 10 mins to load a single web page). If you need Wifi to do work, be prepared to lose half a day of productivity.

We waited to takeoff for about 1 hour delay for a 20 min flight.

Positive: Entertainment via phone on the short was great and my first time. Good food and wine and head phones for free. Negative: Seat hardly reclined on the long flight. Breakfast was an egg with a bun. No egg choices and rather have something sweet like bun/jam and Youghurt.

Horrible people at the gate, they force me to check in my carry on, even thought no one behind me has to do it. I had to get out of the airport in NY to get my bag and go thru security again on my way to Honk Kong. The worst part is the employee threatened me with loosing the flights if don’t comply.

The flight was delayed for over four hours due to “maintenance “. Your ground staff made no efforts to avoid my family missing their connecting flight to London. They did not try to reroute them and didn’t even offer meal vouchers without being asked. My daughter, her husband and four children were in the States for our son’s celebration of life service. They experienced rude and unhelpful staff in Asheville. The lack of communication was disgraceful. They missed their connecting flight and the first rebooking. Then the 2nd rebooked flight was delayed by over two hours. They didn’t leave Charlotte until 1:30 AM. Since returning home my granddaughters sleep has been so disrupted that they are overly tired and cry hysterically at bedtime. I have already contacted you regarding compensation but have yet to receive a response. All I’ve received is a canned wrote response. This is not acceptable!!! When my wife and I traveled to England in December on your partner, British Airlines, we were delayed for 4 and one half hours. We missed our connecting train to Leeds and had to pay double. They not only reimbursed our extra train expense, they also refunded half our airfare. And upon our return to the States we were surprised to find that they had upgraded us for free! Now that’s customer service!!! I look forward to a prompt real human response. Sincerely, Jon Cannon

Crew were attentive and friendly. Flight was smooth and early! I enjoyed the less crowded plane. Thank you!

No complaints. The flight was uneventful, which is a good thing.

Was as expected. Good leg room on planes - much appreciated.

after boarding on phx to sjd, crew discovered that one of the megaphones was either out of date or not working. It took 90 minutes to get a replacement and do the "paperwork." That is really unacceptable. Why wasn't the megaphone problem discovered before boarding? Is it part of normal maintenance check? who is responsible for checking. How can paperwork take that long? Fortunately, SJD was final destination for most travelers so very few if any passengers had to miss connections.

We sat on the plane for 1 hour because the airline was short handed could not be unloading.

We sat on runway for an 1 hour because they were short handed at key west airport was not fun

Fight crew was not very attentive and the bastions were gross!

Late boarding to clean plane from previous flight; initial boarding announcement not loud enough; fantastic cabin attendant front of plane

Terrible. Seats are bad and the baggage policy is inconsistent

Flight delayed 3 times, resulting in late arrival, rental car place gave car away resulting in increased BS charges because I was late. Frontier blows.

I paid for extra leg room. The flimsy plastic seat underneath the floatation seat did not line up with the arm rests. It seemed as if the plastic part was zip tied on but immovable. This caused severe uncomfortable for the duration of the flight.

Left Denver late, then sat on tarmac 30 min after arrival

Better than I expected but I did pay for a seat and carry on bags ahead of time.

Crew members are very rude and not cooperate with passengers.

30 minute delay due to boarding and settling of a family.

It was impossible to change a carry-on for a checked bag after the initial selection. The flight was delayed 14 hours "to allow for a late arriving aircraft." The seats were shockingly uncomfortable. This was only the second time I've seen seats that didn't recline in an airline. The first was in an East Bloc airline before the fall if the Iron Curtain.

The boarding time. I was in Section 1 the lady in charge just let people in section 3 without see us. Make a line , I have to step out and ask her. We were in the line and she just take my ticket and that’s it, so if I don’t ask her she could leave us at the end! We paid more for that privilege and. She doesn’t care….

Was just ok with over selling I guess. A lot of people in a short space and when we finally arrive i20 minutes, waiting to get out from the plain because we were waiting authorization for out boarding? Something like that.
