It's quite a large but inviting travel agents, I really liked how each section was decorated. The woman we spoke to (name escapes me) was very informative and helpful in helping us choose a package that suited our needs. My only negative would be that they asked for a phone number and sometimes the reps can be borderline pushy, still nice..but calling everyday is a bit pushy.

This is an unusually large travel agents. it has a cafe in it which is different! i have always found the staff to be pleasant and helpful.

Barrhead Travel opens new flagship store in Glasgow

Barrhead Travel has opened a new flagship store in Glasgow.

The Gordon Street shop is split across two levels, with the ground floor as a retail space and the first floor as a dedicated hub for the agency’s specialist sales divisions, including cruise, long-haul and Canada departments.

There is also an events space, a training room and a private meeting room.

More than 35 agents are based in the store, which is the first in the company’s portfolio to be paperless, in line with its sustainability targets.

Additional positions are expected to be added this year, including apprenticeships.

Jacqueline Dobson, president of Barrhead Travel, said: “With travel demand exceeding 2019 levels, we’re pleased to be making significant investments in our team and retail locations.

“Our new flagship store marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Barrhead Travel as the industry embraces continued demand for responsible travel.

Barrhead boss 'thrilled' as flagship glasgow store reopens.

Barrhead Travel has reopened its flagship store in Glasgow’s Oswald Street almost 20 months after closing the branch due to the Covid pandemic.

The shop – which spans 22,000 square feet and is Europe’s largest retail travel agency – shut ahead of lockdown in March 2020.

Usually home to Barrhead’s specialist departments, including long-haul, Canada and cruise, most of the store’s staff have worked from home for the duration of the pandemic.

Barrhead reopened its full retail network during the summer but said the size and scale of Oswald Street meant its reopening was “met with complexities” and required a redesign of some areas and protocols in order to meet health and safety requirements.

President Jacqueline Dobson said an increase in footfall to Glasgow city centre had fuelled the shop’s reopening.

Dobson said she and her team were “absolutely thrilled” to be able to meet with customers in person once again at the branch.

“Oswald Street is our home – most of our teams from across the country congregate here after training activities and, in normal times, we welcome suppliers and partners on a weekly basis,” she added. “Our reopening comes as Glasgow city begins its own recovery. Footfall has been low in the city centre but with Christmas approaching and more people back in the office, the city’s famous buzz is at long last returning. We’re looking forward to supporting the wider business community to help revive footfall and restore the high street.”

Leading travel group makes moves to Grade B listed building within Glasgow city centre

The UK’s number one travel agent has invested £1million in the relocation of its official headquarters to Libertas House in Glasgow city centre’s St Vincent Place.

Previously located in Oswald Street, the move will see Barrhead Travel’s sales support functions, alongside some specialist sales divisions, relocate to the fifth floor of the historic building on St Vincent Place. The office will officially open next month.

Following the return of travel demand to 2019 levels, the travel firm say the time was right to reinvest in a new dynamic space while maintaining its Glasgow roots.

Jacqueline Dobson, President of Barrhead Travel, said:

“The new office opening and the renewed demand for the expertise of a travel agent marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Barrhead Travel as the industry moves away from the challenges of the pandemic.

“We’re a people-first business and our new HQ is designed around accommodating a modern approach to office life with hybrid working opportunities, new technology, and accessibility at the heart of it.

Barrhead Travel is set to create 45 jobs across Glasgow as part of its 2017 recruitment drive announced earlier this year.

The family-owned travel group is looking for destination specialists – especially those with in-depth knowledge of cruise and long-haul destinations – to operate out of its six stores in the city.

The majority will work out of the Oswald Street super store, which is also Barrhead's headquarters.

In addition to destination specialists, managerial staff are also being sought to support the growth and development of the group's specialist teams.

The push comes as Barrhead continues with its business expansion plans, which include investment in new technology. In March, the company said it will create a total of 120 new jobs this year , taking total staff numbers to more than 1,000.

Chief executive Sharon Munro said the new recruits will be among the first to work with “some cutting-edge artificial intelligence and virtual reality elements”.

“As a family business which has been at the forefront of travel for more than 40 years, it's important for us to continually look at ways to build our already strong workforce,” she added.

“Our Glasgow teams are strong and determined, and we're looking forward to growing them further with the addition of even more talented individuals.”
