The attached cords are short.

The slim and travel-friendly Portable Charger with Built-in Cables on Amazon is our top choice for those who need a variety of included cords for multiple devices. With six outputs and three inputs, this charging device is ideal for people with an array of different types of electronics, from smartphones to tablets, and micro devices. Its lightweight and slim profile make it easy to throw in your bag without taking up too much space. Each included cable can be tucked into the back of the device, keeping things organized so you don’t have to spend time untangling a mess of wires. Check the digital display screen to keep track of how much battery is left on your backup charger so you can plan appropriately (and it will take between four and a half to six hours to fully recharge). When at full capacity, this backup charger can power up your smartphone twice, your tablet up to 1.5 times, and much more.

Tntor portable charger for iphone.

It has a built-in lightning cable for charging iPhones.

Phones with USB-C ports (like Androids and newer iPhones) will need to supply their own C to C cable to charge.

The ultra slim Tntor Portable Charger for iPhone wins the award for “most compact” with a 6-millimeter thickness and credit card size. Specifically designed for iPhone users, the built-in cord means it’s ready to charge and you don’t have to tote around a separate cord. At 5,000 mAh, this charger is carry-on compatible and can charge not just your iPhone, but other lightning-equipped devices including an iPad, iPad mini, and AirPods. This is an ideal charger for those who don’t need to charge multiple devices and only need to top off their iPhone en route to their next destination. It offers one full charge when at 100 percent capacity and requires a three-hour charging time. The Intelligent Control Circuit feature protects your devices from overcharging, as well as other problematic issues such as over-voltage, short circuiting, temperature protection, and over-current.

Compact with an impressive capacity to recharge your phone up to two and a half times, it’s an ideal option for travelers or those on the go for long stretches of time. The LED display shows how much battery is left in your charger — and, if you need to top off other devices in addition to your phone, two extra input and output ports allow you to do so. There are eight built-in low temperature ice cores and a protective safety system not just for temperature control, but also short circuit and overcharging protection as well. Thanks to its silicone shell, it’s easy to grip and with a soft exterior that won’t scrape your device when connected magnetically.

The Details: 5.67 x 3.43 x 0.94 inches | 6.5 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-A (output); USB-C (input/output)

Best With Stand

Aoguerbe magnetic power bank.

The stand is foldable and compact.

It’s a little bulkier than other models we’ve seen.

We love the folding stand that’s built into the design of the Aoguerbe Magnetic Power Bank. It allows you to charge your iPhone without the hassle of a bunch of cords when paired with a magnetic phone case. Charge up to three devices at a time, with the capacity to bring your iPhone to 100 percent up to two times per fully charged power bank. The included stand folds down to keep the compact profile of the power bank and can be used to keep your phone upright in either a vertical or horizontal orientation. The charger also won’t block your camera lens, so you can easily continue to use your phone while it’s being charged. Built-in temperature control and other safety protection helps ensure this device won’t damage your phone or overheat.

The Details: 4.09 x 2.68 x 0.86 inches | 6.7 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-C and Lighting (input); USB-C and USB-A (output)

Best for Tablets

Eggtronic laptop power bank.

It can charge your tablet up to four times.

Due to its powerful capacity, it’s larger and heavier than comparable power bank models.

We love the powerhouse Eggtronic Laptop Power Bank for so many reasons: it has the capacity to charge multiple devices twice as fast as standard models, and boasts a relatively compact size and sleek design. This universally compatible power bank can refuel the battery on not just your smartphone or tablet, but also laptops, cameras, bluetooth devices, and more. The LCD display shows the current battery life so you can stay up to date on its capacity. This durable device is a great travel companion for anyone; from professionals that need to stay in touch on the road and want the freedom to work from anywhere , to those exploring the great outdoors on a multi-day camping trip. When it’s time to recharge the power bank itself, it’ll only take about three hours which is impressive for such a powerful device.

The Details: 6.75 x 4 x 0.63 inches | 1.34 lbs | 20,000 mAh | 2 USB-A (output); USB-C (input/output)

Best for Laptops

Anker 747 power bank.

It can fully charge an entire MacBook Air.

It’s rather heavy — and expensive — if not using it to charge laptops often.

For travelers who are working en route to their destination and need to keep their laptop consistently charged, the Anker 747 Power Bank is our top choice. Compatible with a wide range of brands including Dell and Apple, this power bank can refuel computer batteries in anywhere from two to three hours. Charge up to four devices at once, and enjoy the long-lasting capacity that can power an iPhone 13 Pro up to five times before needing to be charged itself. Paired with the included Anker 65W 515 wall charger, this power bank can reach 100 percent in two and a half hours versus more than 17 hours without. Built-in sensors offer advanced temperature control to make sure the device doesn’t overheat while the battery management system prevents overcharging.

The Details: 7.2 x 3.23 x 0.95 in | 1.34 pounds | 25,600 mAh | 2 USB-C, 2 USB-A

Best Multi-device Charging

Anker prime 27,650mah power bank.

It charges three devices at once.

This charger is over the mAh limit for traveling on some airplanes, so it’s best to check with the airline before bringing it with you on board.

For those who need a power bank that can charge multiple devices (and fast), the Anker Prime 27,650 mAH Power Bank is a fantastic choice. While not necessary to use, the accompanying app shows you up-to-date stats, and can also help to locate your power bank with sound alerts should you misplace it. This exceptionally functional power bank can recharge a smartphone more than four times and a MacBook Air more than once before needing to be reloaded. Using the dual USB-C ports, the power bank itself can be recharged in less than 40 minutes. As a bonus, this soda-can-sized charging bank comes with its own travel pouch. The built-in active shield prevents the charger from overheating and other safety issues.

The Details: 6.37 x 1.96 x 2.24 inches | 1.47 lbs | 27,650 mAh |  USB-C, Lightning (input); USB-C, USB-A (output)

Best Fast Charging

Ugreen 145w power bank.

It can charge a MacBook Air in 90 minutes.

While compact, it’s a bit heavier than other models.

Not only does the Ugreen 145W Power Bank charge devices quickly, but it also can be charged back to 100 percent in under two hours using the two-way fast charging. This requires an additional purchase of a 65W charger . Because it has 145 watts in output, it can recharge a laptop more than once and a smartphone more than five times all at a rapid speed. The smart digital display keeps you in the loop with how much battery is left in the power bank. It’s also compatible with so many devices, from smartphones to drones, that you won’t be limited with what you can charge as you travel. With three ports, you can charge a few devices at a time as well.

The Details: 6.3 x 3.18 x 1.05 inches | 1.11 lbs | 25,000 mAh | 1 USB-C, 1 USB-A (output); 1 USB-C (input/output)

Best LED Display

Vnbbt magnetic wireless power bank.

The display shows both the available charge left on the device and the progress of the item it’s charging.

It’s not compatible with non-magnetic phone cases.

Take the guesswork out of charging when using the Vnbbt Magnetic Wireless Power Bank, thanks to its incredibly accurate LED display feature. It can be fully charged for your travels within two and a half to four hours. Its ultra compact, lightweight design makes it easy to bring along with you. The material is non-slip so you don’t have to worry about grip being an issue while using the magnetic charger paired with a magnetic phone case. The display is simple, quickly informing you of how much charge is left to go and how much is on the power bank itself so you can plan accordingly. Charge your iPhone in less than 45 minutes and power up two other devices at the same time.

The Details: 7.87 x 3.94 x 0.79 inches | 8.1 ounces | 10,000 mAh | USB-C (input/output), USB-A (output), and magnetic wireless charging

Best for Android

Iwalk small usb c portable charger.

It’s lipstick-sized and very portable.

The battery life isn’t that impressive compared to other power banks.

Specifically designed for Android users, this tiny portable charger easily fits in a bag or even your pocket. The iWalk charger is cordless as well, so you don’t need to provide a cord or untangle wires when you want to use it; simply plug it directly into the USB-C port. Although there isn’t an LED display to show the percentage of battery left, there are indicator lights to track the power level. It’s designed to prevent over-charging, short circuiting, and temperature control while using as well, so you can have peace of mind if you need to step away. In general, it takes approximately two and a half hours to recharge this portable device.

The Details: 3 x 1.8 x 1 inches | 0.071 ounces | 4,500 mAh | USB-C (input), USB-C (output)

Best With A/C Outlet

Sinkeu portable laptop phone charger.

It includes an actual plug as well as a cord for charging via a car cigarette lighter.

There are no slots for a USB-C.

For a power bank with an actual built-in plug, the SinKeu 65 Watt Portable Laptop Phone Charger is our top pick because of its portability and versatility. This power bank is fantastic for charging laptops, tablets, and other compatible devices like certain camera batteries (65 watts and under) that need a typical plug port. The 12V port is great for recharging speakers and other devices that require that output, while the 5V port is perfect for refueling your cell phone up to eight times before needing to be recharged itself. For compatible laptop models, it can provide a full charge twice, making this a great option for travelers with a wide array of devices. The included cigarette lighter plug makes it possible to recharge this power bank in your car as well. To fully recharge, it takes approximately four hours.

The Details: 6.8 x 3.8 x 1.8 inches | 1.1 lbs | 24,000 mAh | 2 USB-A, 110V AC outlet, 15V (input), 12V (output)

Best Colors

Charmast small portable charger.

It’s small and comes in a fun spectrum of colors.

It’s difficult to plug your phone into the charger if you have a case.

We love the colors and size of the Charmast Small Portable Charger that can easily fit in your pocket or purse. This charger has the ability to be fully recharged within an hour and a half when using a 9V-2A fast charger (or three hours with a standard one). Although it doesn’t have the capacity to fully power your smartphone back to 100 percent, it can provide up to 65 percent charge which is a great option for most travelers who just need to top up a device throughout their journey. It can, however, recharge AirPods up to six times. With no additional cords needed, plug it directly into your phone’s lightning port (and it’s also offered with a USB-C instead for Google, Samsung or iPhone 15 devices). With colors like pink, green, blue, orange, black, and white, you can match this portable charger to your phone’s case (or whatever suits your mood!)

The Details: 1.38 x 3.03 x 0.97 inches | 4.7 ounces | 5,000 mAh | USB-C (input), Lightning port (output)

Best With Wall Plug

Brand q ultra slim portable charger.

It’s ultra slim and offers 5-in-1 types of charging.

The built-in cords are stiff and not easy to manipulate.

We love that the built-in wall plug on the Q Slim Portable Charger folds into the power bank to keep a slim profile for transport and that this option comes with its own case. With three included cords, this universal charger is ideal for all types of phones, and you won’t have to bring additional cords along on your adventures. Most phones can be charged between two and a half to four times before needing to recharge the power bank. The included “Intelligent Power Management IC” makes sure your devices will be protected from short circuit, overheating, and overcurrent issues while in use. Another great feature is that you can charge your phone from the power bank while also charging the power bank from the wall plug.

The Details: 6.29 x 2.95 x 0.6 inches | 12.1 ounces |  10,000 mAh | Micro USB, AC (input); Lightning, USB-C, Micro USB (output)

Tips for Buying Portable Chargers

Consider charge potential and timing.

When shopping for a portable power bank, one of the main features to look out for is the capacity for fully charging your devices, especially your smartphone. If you have long travel days with little opportunity to plug your phone in and your backup charger can only offer half a charge to top it off, that may not work for you. Another thing to consider is how long it will take to recharge each of your important devices, as well as the length of time it will take to recharge the power bank itself. Most people can recharge a power bank overnight if it takes more than a couple of hours, but you need to look at your precise needs while on the go.

Decide how much capacity you need

All of the numbers referring to capacity in mAh and watt hours can be a little tricky to understand when deciding what you’ll need. The term mAh means “milliampere-hour” and measures the units of electric charge, or how much power it can hold. This will be the difference between being able to charge just one device at a time versus multiple, and/or charging your phone multiple times or even a laptop at all. If you just need to top off your phone and keep it from getting to zero percent, something below 5,000mAh should do the trick. If you need to charge your phone constantly or have more than one device, something more than 10,000mAh might be for you.

Since the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have rules for rechargeable batteries and power banks measured in the max watt hours allowed, you’ll need to know how to convert the mAh listed for the power bank or charger into watt hours to see if your device can come along with you. To do this, you’ll need to multiply milliamp hours by volts then divide by 1,000. So, if you take the Eggtronic Laptop Power Bank listed above, it’s 20,000mAh at 5V, making it equivalent to 100 watt hours.

The FAA and TSA state that any spare battery with more than 100 watt hours or 27,000mAh needs to have approval from the airline.

Look at the types and numbers of ports

One of the most important aspects of choosing a power bank is to make sure it will be compatible with your devices. The last thing you want is to purchase a back-up charger that’s only suitable for an iPhone when you have an Android. There are numerous options that offer more than one type of port. The most common inputs and outputs are USB-A and USB-C, as well as lightning ports (for Apple devices). Some models offer a wall plug or cigarette lighter adapter as well, perfect for those who need to charge a device from the car or have to charge something with a physical plug.

It’s important to note that regulations will have lightning ports outdated for future iPhones due to the European Union’s ruling that all smartphones need to have the USB-C charging port in common.

A portable charger or power bank is a great back-up solution to ensure you don’t run out of battery on your devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. They provide an extra lithium-ion battery-powered source — or another source like the sun — that can connect to a wide array of devices, depending on their ports or magnetic charging capabilities. When connected, they transfer their stored energy to the electronic device plugged in. Typically, they are small enough to fit in your bag without taking up too much space, and some are even compact enough to fit in your pocket.

Yes, it’s possible to bring most portable chargers on an airplane, though there are restrictions to abide by: it’ll have to stay in your carry-on luggage that you’ll have with you in the cabin, as it can’t be in a checked bag. It also can’t possess more than 100Wh (watt-hours) or 27,000 mAh capacity. If your power bank has a larger capacity than this, you’ll need approval from the airline.

With its generous battery capacity, it’s more than capable of charging small stuff like your phones and wearables — but it’s also powerful enough to charge laptops too.

What makes it better is that it features a maximum charging speed of 200W, which is ridiculously fast if your device can support it. For fast charging phones, it could take 30 minutes or less to get it back up to 100% capacity. Meanwhile, the unit itself charges at a speedy rate of 100W. There’s also a handy display that shows its charging capacity and the actual speeds it’s charging with its USB ports.

Best Portable Chargers and Power Banks

2. INIU 10,000 mAh Portable Charger

Although it might not be as familiar a brand, the INIU 10000 mAh charger is the best budget portable charger with its affordable cost. You won’t spend a whole lot picking it up either, since it frequently gets discounted to get it down to around $20, which is super cheap compared to the other options.

This INIU charger stood up in 15-minute and 1-hour timed charging (at 22%, 78%), with times that were within 1-2 percentage points ahead of what we got out of comparable Anker PowerCore Slim's times. Even with its ultra affordable cost, we’re glad that INIU offers a 3-year limited warranty — which is more than the usual 1-year that other battery bank makers offer.

Anker Power Bank Fusion 10K planed on table.

6. Anker Power Bank Fusion 10K

Versatility is what the Anker Power Bank Fusion 10K is all about. That’s because this portable charger from Anker doesn’t force you to bring along other cables and adapters to use it. With its integrated USB-C cable, it packs 30W wired speeds that’s fast enough to power some laptops in addition to phones. You can also lean on its other USB-C port to charge another device simultaneously with its 10,000 mAh battery cell.

Recharging the Anker Power Bank Fusion 10K is also a cinch because it features a built-in foldable charger when the battery itself needs to be recharged. With this setup, you might not even have to worry about bringing any of your chargers and cables because it conveniently packages everything into its design.

How to choose the best portable charger

Finding the right charger capacity: You'll often see a four to five-digit number, with the letters mAh following it, and that's your first big indicator of how much this charger is right for you. If you're constantly refueling your phone and other gadgets, go for at least 10,000mAh. For each extra device you charge, add at least 5,000 to the mAh rating you're looking for. Just need to prevent your device from hitting 0 on late nights out? You'll be good with something in the under 5,000 mAh rating, provided you remember to charge it often.

Be a ports authority: If you hold onto your devices forever, and don't already know what a USB-C port is, you can probably just get whatever fits your price. But if you're the kind who wants faster charging, look for a brick that has PD in its name. The best portable chargers, at least for my money, charge devices the fastest and use the Power Delivery (PD) standard. Also, their USB-C ports mean you can refuel these power banks with the same cords used to charge modern laptops.

How we test the best portable chargers

You want a charger that was put through the rigors of refueling, so we did just that. With timers in hand, we kept draining an iPhone 15 Pro and then timed how much time it took for each power bank to refuel those phones. Along the way, we checked out how much of said iPhone 15 Pro (the same one) were refueled after 15 and 60 minutes. We kept that iPhone at 100% brightness the whole time.

Our ranking also factored in the portability and designs of each model, as especially small and pocket-friendly chargers can't physically store as many mAh of battery power as their larger brethren. Similarly, the smaller a charger is, the less likely it has more than two ports (one for gaining a charge, the other for giving power).

The "best portable charger" is not a 10,000mAh USB-A 15W charger for $20, that's just one of the most purchased on Amazon. One of the best portable power banks is going to be the Anker 737 or the Ugreen 145w. They both feature two type C outputs and one type A output, the Anker 737 being able to output up to 140W compared to Ugreen maxing at 100W. Anker has a 24000mAh battery and PD3.1 complaint and Ugreen is 25000mAh with PD3.0; they both are compatible with all charging standards. These might be a bit overkill for the general user, but they are among the best, if not the best portable power banks. Reply

The Best Travel Power Strips and Surge Protectors With USB Charging

Sarah Witman

By Sarah Witman

Sarah Witman is a writer focused on batteries and charging accessories. She has spent countless hours charging, discharging, and recharging batteries.

Wall outlets are in short supply on planes, trains, and buses—and in many airports and hotels—so packing a portable power strip is a must for frequent travelers.

Everything we recommend

travel charging stations

Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Surge Protector

Best power strip for travel.

This compact strip gives you three AC outlets and two USB power ports but doesn’t take up much space in a bag or weigh you down. We don’t recommend it for international travel.

travel charging stations

Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Travel-Size Surge Protector

Better surge protection with a cord.

This is the only portable option we tested with reliable surge protection. The 18-inch cord adds a little extra bulk but gives you more flexibility than models that plug directly into an outlet.

travel charging stations

Allocacoc PowerCube ReWirable USB

Best for traveling abroad.

With four international plugs and a protection rating of 100 to 250 volts, this charger is a convenient option for overseas travel.

After researching dozens of models and testing the top contenders, we’ve concluded that the best power strip for North American travel is the Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Surge Protector .

It has three outlets and two USB-A charging ports with adequate spacing for bulkier plugs, and it’s smaller and lighter than any other travel model we’ve tested.

This travel power strip has been our top pick every year since 2015. Although other companies use a similar design in their models, we've found that the Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Surge Protector offers the best capabilities at a price that’s usually lower than that of the competition.

If you prefer a power strip with robust surge protection and a cord, Tripp Lite’s Protect It 3-Outlet Travel-Size Surge Protector is the best choice.

It’s the only portable model we tested that clamps down on harmful power surges as effectively as full-size surge protectors . Other portable models we tested let more than twice as much surge voltage through, which could potentially damage anything plugged into them.

The third AC outlet on the back of this unit helps reduce plug clutter, and its right-angle plug lets it easily fit into tight spots.

If you travel outside of North America, we recommend the Allocacoc PowerCube ReWirable USB .

Two features make this model ideal for international travel: It’s rated for 100 to 250 volts, so it doesn’t need an additional voltage converter, and it comes with four interchangeable plugs to fit a wide variety of international wall outlets.

Plus, it has two USB-A ports like our other picks, and it provides four AC outlets instead of three.

The research

Why you should trust us, who this is for, how we picked and tested, our pick: tripp lite protect it 3-outlet surge protector, also great: tripp lite protect it 3-outlet travel-size surge protector, also great: allocacoc powercube rewirable usb, other good power strips for travel, the competition.

Senior staff writer Sarah Witman has been a science writer for nearly a decade, covering a wide variety of topics from particle physics to satellite remote sensing. Since joining Wirecutter in 2017, she has reported on portable power stations , household surge protectors , and more.

Consulting engineer Lee Johnson , who has more than 10 years of experience designing and testing electrical components, performed our surge tests.

When you’re traveling, a portable power strip can be a lifesaver in places like airports and hotels, where wall outlets are often few and far between. A power strip that easily fits into a carry-on bag can mean the difference between enjoying fully charged devices en route or trying to stretch the last 10% of your battery over an hours-long flight.

Generally, a power strip is a device that merely adds extra outlets, whereas a surge protector is designed to absorb the voltage from commonplace power surges and keep them from frying your electronic devices. Surge protection is especially important if you’re traveling in places with an unstable power grid.

Most portable versions are surge protectors in name only and don’t provide a level of protection that we would trust, especially long-term. We’ve highlighted any models that have surge protection similar to what you can expect from a full-size surge protector .

If you aren’t worried about surges—and the damage they can cause to unprotected devices—and need only to charge USB-powered devices such as a phone, laptop, or handheld gaming console, you might prefer a multiport USB wall charger instead. Or you can skip wall outlets entirely and pack a high-capacity power bank .

Our four picks for best portable power strips and surge protectors with USB charging.

For every round of testing, we scour the websites of popular retailers and brands, cultivating a list of contenders based on the following criteria:

  • Size and weight: When you’re traveling, the most important factors to consider when you pack are size and weight. A power strip won’t serve you well on the road if it’s too bulky or too heavy to stick in a backpack or suitcase. So we give preference to lighter, more compact models, which in most cases eliminates models with more than three AC outlets and two USB ports.
  • Outlet placement: We seek out models that maximize the number of devices you can plug in—even if those devices have big, blocky power bricks—and dismiss models with tightly spaced AC outlets.
  • Plug design: We give preference to power strips with a plug that can retract or fold into the body of the unit, which makes the power strip easier to pack into small spaces and helps prevent the plug from snagging on surrounding items and damaging them. We also prefer models with grounded (three-prong) plugs, which reduce the risk of electric shock.

A close up of a person holding our top pick for best portable power strip with USB charging.

  • Surge protection: Most portable power strips are too small to include meaningful surge protection. The joule rating on the box gives you some indication of how long a model will take cumulative surges, but not how much power could hit the gear you have plugged in. What really matters is how much voltage from a surge makes it through the outlets. In other testing, we’ve found that many electronics can survive a 400-volt hit—the amount that most home surge protectors let through when struck by a 5,000-volt surge. Most portable models, though, let through more than 1,000 volts. We call out models that can serve as true surge protectors, but if that’s your main concern, you need to invest in a larger option .
  • USB charging: Since many devices and accessories charge via USB, we limit our search to power strips with USB ports, which helps reduce the number of wall warts you have to pack. We prefer that each port be rated for at least 2.4 amps—which is what most phones and tablets require to charge at full speed—but such ports are relatively rare. Most of the units we’ve tested split this current over two ports, which means that if you plug in two devices, they’ll each charge at less than half their maximum speed.

To test each model, we insert plugs of various shapes and sizes into the power strips, trying different combinations to see which outlet layouts can accommodate the most devices. We also take into account whether each model can be plugged into a two-outlet wall plate without obstructing the second outlet, and we assess its overall appearance.

Next, we test the charging capabilities of each USB port by plugging in a PortaPow USB Power Monitor along with an iPad Air 2, noting the monitor’s amperage reading. We then connect a second iPad to measure the total output while charging two devices.

Our consulting electrical engineer, Lee Johnson, tests each model with a 5,000-volt surge generator, which is capable of creating voltage surges 40 times the standard AC power in the US. He starts with a series of surges from 160 volts all the way up to 5,000 volts, recording the voltage at the outlet where you would normally plug in your devices. Then he subjects each contender to a series of five 5,000-volt surges and averages the outlet measurements to get the protected output voltage. These tests show that our picks can protect most devices in the face of common power surges—and even in rare surge events up to thousands of volts.

Our pick for best portable surge protector with USB charging, the Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Surge Protector, plugged into a wall outlet.

With three outlets, two USB ports, and a handy fold-up plug, the pocket-sized Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Surge Protector is the best and most portable power strip to pack for a trip.

It has lots of room for plugs. This power strip’s unusual design keeps all three outlets easily accessible, as they’re located on different faces—the front and either side. As a result, it can accommodate an impressive variety of plug shapes and sizes.

It’s small and light. At 4.5 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, and just under 1.5 inches deep, this power strip is one of the smallest of those we’ve tested.

It’s easy to fit into the pocket of a backpack or a carry-on suitcase, and the plug prongs fold away neatly when it’s not in use. You’ll barely notice the 5-ounce weight (which is about as heavy as a roll of pennies ) in your bag.

It’s sturdily built. In our testing, this power strip stayed firmly in the wall outlet with minimal wobbling, even with three bulky plugs and adapters plugged into it.

Not only does its stability help keep your devices charging at full power, but it’s also safer; a plug pulled partly out of an outlet can damage your electronics or start a fire.

It has a pair of USB ports, letting you charge two devices without an adapter. This power strip worked as advertised in our USB speed tests: Our first iPad drew up to 2.1 amps from a single port, and plugging a second iPad into the other port halved the current flowing to each device.

This means that your phone or tablet might charge more slowly than it would with its own charger or one of our favorite multiport USB chargers , especially if both ports are occupied. That isn’t optimal, but it is par for the course for this type of device.

It’ll likely last for years. Over the past five years, three Wirecutter editors have taken the Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Surge Protector on dozens of trips. After extensive use, the foldable plug of one unit got stuck in the “out” position, but otherwise the power strip has been trouble-free.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • Because this power strip is rated for only 110-volt outlets, we don’t recommend using it internationally. Even if plugged into an international adapter, it is not a safe option, because most countries have 220-volt electrical grids.
  • The manufacturer might call this device a surge protector, but we don’t—according to our tests, the included protection isn’t likely to save your gear. When we sent a 5,000-volt surge through this power strip, it let nearly 1,000 volts slip through to our attached devices. That’s far more than most electronics can handle without dropping dead. Also, its 540-joule rating is on the lower end, which means its surge protection is likely to wear off sooner than that of models with a higher rating, such as our pick with a cord or our home surge protector picks.

An also great pick for best portable power strip with USB charging, the Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Travel-Size Surge Protector.

If you want robust surge protection on the go, or if you prefer a power strip with a cord instead of one that sits flush against a wall outlet, the Tripp Lite Protect It 3-Outlet Travel-Size Surge Protector is the model to get.

Its surge protection is far better than that of most units of this size. When we hit this model with repeated 5,000-volt surges, it let only an average of 447 volts through to the outlets. That’s close to the performance of our favorite home surge protectors , which let between 368 and 444 volts through in the same test.

Its protection is designed to last. Not only does this model provide better protection for each individual surge, but it also should handle more surges before wearing out. The protection circuitry inside is rated to take a cumulative 1,050 joules, or about twice the rating of our top pick.

It has a cord. Since this power strip has an 18-inch cord, it’s easy to plug into a standard wall plate without blocking the second outlet as other units typically do.

And because it has a right-angle wall plug, it can easily fit behind furniture—a bonus if you’re often plugging into obstructed outlets in hotel rooms, hostels, or short-term rentals.

It has three adequately spaced outlets. With two outlets on the front face and a third on the back, this model allows you to plug in at least one large power brick without blocking the other outlets.

A close up of the Tripp Lite Travel-Size surge protector with its power cord wrapped up for storage.

It has two USB ports, but they’re not as powerful as we’d like. Similar to our other picks, this model includes two USB ports that supply up to 2.1 amps, and you can use each of them to charge a single device at full power or share them between two devices.

Most modern phones and tablets can fast-charge at more than 2 amps, so if you’re charging multiple devices simultaneously, you’re better off with a dedicated USB charger .

Our pick for portable power strip with USB charging that can be used abroad, the PowerCube ReWirable USB, plugged into a wall outlet.

If you’re traveling outside of North America, get the Allocacoc PowerCube ReWirable USB : It works with 100 to 250 volts, so it can be safely plugged in pretty much anywhere in the world, and it has the most outlets among our picks.

It’s small and light. This model is a 2.5-inch cube that weighs just a little more than 7 ounces. It has one outlet on each of its four outside faces, plus two USB ports on the face opposite its own AC plug. This design ensures full access to each outlet for almost any size plug, without any of those plugs blocking the other outlets.

It can charge more devices at full power. Unlike most travel plug adapters , which often have just one outlet, this Allocacoc model’s four outlets are convenient for charging up to four devices as fast as possible (with a sufficiently powerful wall charger ). For instance, while working remotely on a two-month trip abroad, I found it invaluable to be able to charge a laptop, phone, power bank, and wireless headphones at the same time—and still have two USB ports to spare.

The USB ports share the available 2.1 amps, much as on our other picks.

The PowerCube sitting on the floor next to four international plugs.

It’s perfect for international travel. The PowerCube ReWirable USB includes four interchangeable AC plugs to fit Australian, European, UK, and North American (including the US, Canada, and Mexico) outlets .

There are a lot of pieces to keep track of. The plugs are easy to swap in and out as needed, and because they push the cube away from the wall, the wall plate’s second outlet remains accessible for most plugs and power bricks. However, the extra plugs are easy to misplace, so we recommend getting a designated bag organizer to keep track of them.

Don’t count on this model to provide surge protection. The PowerCube ReWirable USB is not advertised to provide any surge protection, but we tested it in that respect anyway, and it knocked 5,000-volt surges down to the same 900- to 1,000-volt range as our top pick. (That is to say, the surge protection is minimal, and we wouldn’t rely on it for that purpose.)

If you want more outlets and ports, plus a long cord, and you don’t mind a slightly bulkier unit: Get the Anker A9166 or Anker A9183 . They have more outlets (six and eight, respectively) than any of our picks, as well as plenty of USB ports to charge additional devices (the former has three USB-A ports and the latter has one USB-C port and one USB-A port).

Both models have a cord that’s as long as any we encountered in our tests (5 feet) and come with a hook-and-loop fastener to keep it neatly coiled in your luggage. Also, the cord and plug on the A9183 are flat—just a few millimeters thick—so you can wind the cord around the body of the unit to pack it up even smaller.

These models are among the heaviest we tested, weighing about a pound each (15.1 and 16.4 ounces, respectively), but they’re still about as sleek and compact as any of our picks.

The surge protection of both models is lackluster—letting through 758 and 742 volts, respectively, in our testing—but no worse than that of some of our picks. In short, we wouldn’t make either of them a permanent fixture at home, but they’ll do for short-term use.

Anker’s 18-month warranty on these models falls slightly short of the coverage on our picks, but it should still give you plenty of time to confirm that your unit is working properly.

This is not a comprehensive list of models we’ve tested. We have removed discontinued models and those that no longer meet our criteria.

The RND Power Solutions Wall Power Station is bulkier than our top pick , and its outlets are too close together.

The CyberPower P405UC has four outlets, two USB-A ports, and (unlike any of our picks) a fast-charging USB-C port. Its 5-foot, fabric-sheathed cord is longer than that of our corded pick , but it has a shorter warranty and is heavier and clunkier.

The GE 33654 has a longer cord (3 feet) and one more outlet (four) than our pick with a cord , and it weighs about the same as that model. However, it provides less surge protection, and its blocky shape makes it less convenient to stow in a suitcase.

The Bestek MRJ201GU-EU-P , Ceptics World Power Plug Adapter Set (PK8-WS) , Ceptics World Travel Adapter Kit (WPS-2B+) , and Ceptics World Travel Adapter Kit (WPS-5B) come with more adapters and/or other accessories than our international-travel pick does, but none of them demonstrated any surge protection whatsoever in our testing.

The Greatness Line GR-8 Power Travel Charging Station has four outlets and four USB-A ports, and it costs a few bucks less than our international-travel pick at this writing. Plus, it comes with twice as many adapters (eight), so you can use it in even more countries. However, it has no listed warranty, the company’s customer support is reachable only via onsite form, and in our testing this model emitted a loud pop when 5,000 volts passed through it—and we could hear internal components rattling around afterward.

The Mogics Power Bagel (MPB-AB) has more outlets than our pick for international travel , and it has a retractable cord as well as an innovative design that allows you to pack up the international adapters inside the body of the unit. However, it typically costs more than our international pick, and in our testing it didn’t provide any surge protection at all.

The  Tripp Lite Safe-It International Universal Wall Travel Charger has a longer warranty and weighs less than our pick for international travel , but it has only two outlets and performed abysmally in our surge tests.

A wired predicament requires a wireless solution, though many smartphone users are still resistant to wireless charging, whether they’re neo-Luddites or masochists for USB. But the future is wireless, as seen in mouses, keyboards , headphones, and now chargers. No plugging needed.

Well, technically there is a little plugging; a cord still needs to connect the charger with a power outlet. But that’s a reasonable trade-off when feeling for a cord behind the nightstand in the dark before sleeping at night is such a hassle. Just pop your phone on a charging pad and watch it fuel up—this quality-of-life convenience is worth the investment. First, here’s some important knowledge about wireless charging to inform your decision-making.

Wireless Charging Isn’t Faster

This is a hard pill to swallow, but wireless charging rarely competes against the rapid velocity of its wired counterparts. And just like the good ol’ cord options, the speed of wireless charging does rely on the power output of the outlet. The measurement in wireless charging is wattage, or W. The higher the wattage, the faster the charging speed, but most wireless chargers seldom have an output beyond 10W. For comparison's sake, Apple's USB-C power adapter , which we use for newer iPhones, charges at 20W.

Only Qi-Enabled Smartphones Are Compatible

“Qi” is the essence of wireless charging. Pronounced as “chee,” it’s a Chinese word that means "life force” ( Kung Fu Panda fans should be familiar with it). It is the charging method in which the device, once placed on top of the wireless charger, is aligned with a coil inside the charging pad that triggers electromagnetic induction. The charger basically instills its life force into the device.

Only Qi-enabled phones can be wirelessly charged. The good news is that almost all new smartphones nowadays are Qi-certified: Samsung, Google, Apple, LG, Huawei, etc. But because of different proprietary operating systems between brands, like iOS versus Android, charging speeds vary considerably. Apple infamously limits the wireless charging input of iPhones to 7.5W on all third-party chargers like Samsung or Google. This slow-down is also true between Apple devices: You can never charge Apple Watch or AirPods as fast as iPhones, even on MagSafe, which charges iPhones at an ideal 15W.

Thus, the best wireless chargers are one-size-fits-all. These versatile Qi charging stations can juice up both iOS and Android devices, sometimes together, for users with multiple smartphones and gadgets of different operating systems.

If you want to power up with only one string attached, these are the 16 best wireless charging stations, hubs, stands, and pads that can transfer life force into your smartphones. They are of varying designs and some can even charge across devices—smartphones, smartwatches, and earbuds, at once. Whether you have Android or iOS, as long as it's Qi-enabled, these chargers will keep it vitalized in style.

ANYFONG Solar Power Bank Phone Charger

Solar Power Bank Phone Charger

This Anyfong charger is a little traditional: It uses battery capacity to charge, at an ultra-large 36,000mAh. It’s also innovative, harnessing solar power to wirelessly charge Qi-enabled smartphones. Seems paradoxical, no? Not when it can charge four devices simultaneously, one via wireless charging powered by the sun, the other three via high-speed USB outputs. And it’s got a bright flashlight to keep you safe and sound at night. Thus, this power bank is an ideal backup for outdoor enthusiasts who love camping, hiking, and otherwise natural excursions .

Charging stations and hubs come in all shapes and sizes. We've included different options to suit different needs and device charging specifications, so whether you have an iPhone, an Apple Watch, AirPods, a Quick Charge Android phone, a laptop, or a USB-C Android phone; we've got you covered.

These days, more and more devices are shipping with USB-C cables instead of USB-A cables, so we're including charging stations that come with both USB-C ports and USB-A ports if you're still using your older cables.

For Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra users, specifically — unfortunately, none of the charging stations we've encountered support Samsung's 45W fast charging for the Galaxy S20 Ultra. If you're looking to max out your charging speeds with those devices, your best bet is to get Samsung's own charger . Just note that the latest Galaxy S21 series, including the Galaxy S21 Ultra, only support up to 25W charging, which some of the chargers below can achieve. The Satechi Dock5 Multi-Device Charging Station neatly charges five devices simultaneously and includes two USB-C PD ports, two USB-A ports, and a Qi charging pad.

Pros: Charges up to five devices at the same time, holds devices in place neatly, affordable, meets standard charging speeds on most devices, can fast charge iPhone, includes USB-C charging ports

Cons: Short charging cables are sold separately, won't meet top charging speeds on some Android devices

Households with several smartphones and/or tablets, and wireless charging earbuds will appreciate the Dock5 by reputable tech accessories maker Satechi.

The Dock5 can charge five devices at the same time with its variety of two USB-C ports, standard USB-A ports, and a Qi wireless charging pad. Devices can be organized neatly with the silicone dividers that prevent scratching.

The USB-C ports are rated at 20W each, and will be best used on smartphones with fast charging, or devices with large batteries, like a tablet. For reference, the Dock5 's 20W USB-C ports exceed the iPad Pro's 18W included charging brick and the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12's 18W fast charging capabilities. The Galaxy S21 phones can charge up to 25W.

The standard USB-A ports are rated at 12W each, which makes them more suitable for smartphone charging at decent speeds.

The wireless Qi charging pad is rated at 10W, which is double what the AirPods Pro charging capacity. Unfortunately, the Dock5 won't charge AirPods Pro faster, as they'll only accept up to 5W for wireless charging. Still, the wireless charging pad can be used to charge a smartphone up to 10W wirelessly.

The Dock5 doesn't come with the short charging cables you see in the images — those are sold separately and range between $9 to $18, and you'll have to use your existing cables. That's a shame, because charging four wired devices with longer cables will make for a messier look than what you see in Satechi's images. Still, the convenience is undeniable.

Charging multiple devices on a budget means you'll miss out on USB-C charging ports, but you get five USB-A ports on the Anker PowerPort 5 is a cheap, easy solution that will do a great job charging several devices.

Pros: Charges up to five devices at the same time, cheap

Cons: Doesn't include USB-C or fast charging tech

While you may not get USB-C ports or very fast charging, Anker's 40W 5-Port USB Wall Charger will do nicely for up to five mobile devices. For under $25 on Amazon, it's hard to beat. You can easily charge devices like smartphones, smartwatches, headphones, and other accessories that use USB for charging with the PowerPort 5. — Antonio Villas-Boas, Senior Tech Reporter

travel charging stations

The Nomad Base Station is a premium, elegant wireless charging station that can charge up to four devices at the same time with its USB-C, USB-A port, and wireless charging pad.

Pros: Elegant and premium design, versatile charging options, affordable for what it offers, included EU and US adapters

Cons: Doesn't wirelessly charge Apple Watch, doesn't charge iPad Pro through Magic Keyboard

The sleek, elegant Nomad Base Station has a padded leather wireless charging surface that can wirelessly charge two devices at the same time at 7.5W, or 10W for a single device. Just note that different phones have different speed limits for wireless charging. Alternatively, you could charge a phone and a pair of wireless charging earbuds or a smartwatch on the pad. Also note that it won't charge the Apple Watch.

If the wireless charging pad won't charge your phone fast enough in a pinch, the 18W USB-C port will do the trick for iPhones and Android devices, and it'll charge most tablets at a standard pace.

The USB-A port is rated at 7.5W, which is pretty slow for phones, but is suitable for charging wireless earbuds.

For its price, the Nomad Base Station is among the best options for a versatile charging station.

The Ravpower PD Pioneer 65W 4-Port USB C Desktop Charger offers quick charging for both standard USB-A ports, as well as two USB-C ports.

Pros: Compact design, charges most devices quickly, can charge a laptop, inexpensive

Cons: Doesn't support Samsung's 45W charging tech

The Ravpower PD Pioneer 65W Desktop Charger offers a variety of quick charging USB-A and USB-C ports for a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops. It's the best quick charger for the money.

It features Power Delivery for the USB-C ports that charges up 65W for USB-C PD-compatible devices up to 65W from a single port. If you connect two USB-C PD-compatible devices to the USB-C ports, it'll charge one at 45W and the other at 18W.

As for the standard Quick Charge USB-A ports, it can charge one port at 18W, and 12W if you have two devices plugged into each USB-A port. Ravpower also includes this handy chart to show you what it can do with different connection combinations:

Just note that like any other quick charging hub we've encountered, the Ravpower won't support Samsung's ultra-fast 45W charging, as it uses a special protocol that only Samsung seems to use with its own chargers. If you have a Samsung device that supports 45W charging, it's best to go with Samsung's own chargers. — Antonio Villas-Boas, Senior Tech Reporter

travel charging stations

The Omnia Mix4 100W 4-port PD Charger by Aukey has a huge 100W capacity that will charge almost any standard laptop via USB-C at full clip while charging other devices at the same time.

Pros: Can charge multiple laptops while charging other devices, compact, affordable

Cons: Doesn't support Samsung's 45W smartphone charging

This 100W charger is smaller than most included charging bricks that come with laptops these days and meets their full power needs. For example, Aukey claims it can charge the power-hungry 16-inch MacBook Pro in 1.8 hours, at least if it's the only device connected to the charger.

If you connect two laptops to the Omnia via USB-C, the USB-C ports will reduce to 45W each, which is enough to power two MacBook Airs at the same time. If you're looking to charge laptops that require over 45W, the Omnia will work best as a single-laptop solution.

The two USB-A ports can charge at a 12W maximum each, but are reduced to 6W each if you have two laptops connected to the USB-C ports. — Antonio Villas-Boas, Senior Tech Reporter

The Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand is an ideal charging station for your pre-iPhone 12 iPhone , AirPods (with wireless charging), and Apple Watch. iPhone 12 users should look at the Belkin Boost Charge Pro .

Pros: Perfect for desks or night stands, ideal for Apple users

Cons: Mophie is slow for iPhone 12, Belkin doesn't support pre-iPhone 12 generation

If you're looking to charge your daily Apple portable Apple devices that you regularly charge overnight all in one place, the Mophie 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand should be near the top of your list.

The Mophie charges iPhones that support wireless charging up to 7.5 watts, which is fine for any iPhone that supports wireless charging before the iPhone 12. It will also charge your Apple Watch with the magnetic charging pad that props the Watch up in horizontal mode, and there's a dedicated charging pad for AirPods with wireless charging.

If you have the iPhone 12, consider Belkin's Boost Charge Pro instead, as it uses Apple's MagSafe technology and wirelessly charges the iPhone 12 at 15W — faster than the Mophie above. It also features wireless charging for your Apple Watch and wirelessly charging AirPods. — Antonio Villas-Boas, Senior Tech Reporter

The Zendure Passport is a clever travel adapter that fits international outlets and offers one USB-C and three USB-A ports to charge your mobile devices.

Pros: Clever design, works in more than 200 countries, charges five devices at once, auto-resetting fuse

Cons: Chunky, can slide out of some outlets

If you frequently fly abroad for work or pleasure, then you should consider the Zendure Passport travel charger. This global travel adapter works with outlets in more than 200 countries and it also provides four charging ports for mobile devices that can deliver a total of 30W.

It's quite a chunky adapter, measuring 2.24 by 2.8 by 2.5 inches, and it comes in black or white. There's a blue LED on the bottom that lights up when it's plugged in, and Zendure's signature ribbing runs around the outside.

This charger plugs directly into the wall and has four sliders on the side that enable you to choose the correct plug for the EU, US, UK, or Australia. These four plug types will fit the outlets in most places you're likely to visit. You can also plug into the other side using devices from any of these countries. On the bottom, you'll find a USB-C port, marked in blue, and three USB-A ports. The USB-C port supports the Power Delivery standard and offers up to 30W. The USB-A ports are rated at 5V/2.4A for 12W each. The AC output is 6A (600W at 100V or 1,500W at 250V).

This travel adapter has accompanied me on every trip I've taken for the last couple of years and it has served me well in the US, the UK, and across Europe. Being able to charge two phones, a smartwatch, a tablet, and a camera battery from one outlet can be very handy. It has also served my family of four, keeping all our phones charged up, and still offering an outlet for a laptop.

You will need your own charging cables, but you can effectively charge five devices at once with this travel adapter. It is quite bulky, so I've occasionally found it's a tight fit with some outlets. If you have a lot plugged into it the weight can also begin to pull it out of the outlet.

One feature that has proved very handy is the auto-resetting fuse. Fuses inevitably blow occasionally, but this will cut-off automatically for safety, then reset and be usable again, without you having to worry about changing a fuse.

There's an older version of the Passport that just has four USB-A ports, so make sure you get the newer one with the USB-C port. It comes with a 24-month warranty.  — Simon Hill

Here are the charging speeds of several popular devices:

travel charging stations

You can pick up a wide variety of other charging stations and USB charging hubs that will meet your charging needs. Here's a small selection of the ones that didn't quite make our list, but are still worth considering if you've yet to see something you like.

  • AUKEY Quick Charge 3.0 6-Port USB Wall Charger : The affordable Aukey 6-Port Desktop Charging Station has two Quick Charge 3.0 ports marked in orange, four green ports rated at 2.4A apiece, comes with a detachable, 4-foot power cable that plugs directly into an outlet, and can deliver a total of 60W. It may be worth choosing over the Anker if you need that extra port, but the boxy design leaves something to be desired.
  • Anker PowerPort Atom PD 4 : This charging station has two USB-C ports that support the Power Delivery standard and two USB-A ports. It can deliver up to 100W. That means you can plug in two laptops and two phones and have all four charge up at once. If you have a new MacBook or Pixelbook and want to charge it alongside your phone, then this could be the ideal charger, but it is expensive.
  • Vogek 5-Port 50W Charging Station : This doesn't quite match our top pick from Satechi, as it only has five ports, but it's a similar design, with slots to hold your devices neatly. One advantage of this charging station is that it comes with a mixture of eight short charging cables, and it's relatively inexpensive.
  • Amazon Basics 60W 10-Port Wall Charger : If you need a large capacity, no frills, wall charger, you won't find anything much bigger, or cheaper, than this charging station from Amazon. It can supply 60W in total to up to 10 devices, but ports are capped at 2.4A each and there's no support for any fast charging standards.
  • Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Dock : This is another stylish charging dock for the nightstand that's designed to accommodate an iPhone and Apple Watch. Instead of plugging in, it wirelessly charges your iPhone, and it has a USB-A port for a third device. The only reason this didn't make the list is the high price. — Simon Hill

To find the right charging station for you, there are a few questions to ask. There are also certain features that you may want to consider before you buy.

How many devices do you need to charge?

The first thing to work out when you're shopping for a charging station for your gadgets is how many ports you need. Count up your phones, tablets, smartwatches, and any other devices that need frequent charging. Remember that you'll also need charging cables for each one.

Not all ports are created equal

As you'll see when you peruse our guide, many charging stations offer a mix of ports. You might find USB-A and USB-C, and you may also find that some ports are capable of faster charging rates than others. It's also quite common for charging stations to have some ports that support certain charging standards and others that don't.

Get the right cables

You can always use the charging cable that came with your device, but if you're buying new cables, make sure they're fit for the purpose. Look for certified safe cables that can deliver the charging rate you want. We like these 4-inch Anker Powerline Lightning cables and these 8-inch Aukey USB-C cables for keeping things tidy.

Where will you put the charging station?

Think about where you're going to put your charging station and consider what size you can accommodate. You will need a wall outlet handy and space to rest your devices while they juice up. It's a good idea to choose somewhere out of sight because there will be a tangle of cables. We have one on a bookcase in the upstairs landing and another tucked away under a side table at the end of the couch in the lounge. We also use a magnetic cable tidy that helps us quickly find the end of an unused cable and keeps things from getting too messy.

Is charging rate important?

For people planning to plug in overnight, there's little point in paying a premium for fast charging, but if you want to be able to top up quickly, charging rate matters. Check what charging standards your phone or other device supports and look for a charging station that can deliver. There's USB Power Delivery, Qualcomm's Quick Charge standard, and a host of other manufacturer-specific charging technologies.

Check the safety features and warranty

You'll be plugging some of your most prized possessions into your chosen charging station, so it's important to think about safety. Cheap, uncertified chargers can fail, damage your devices, or even cause a fire. Stick to trusted brands, check the reviews, and look for safeguards covering surges and overheating. It's also a good idea to check the warranty and review people's experiences with customer support before you buy.

Q: Will any charging station work with all my devices?

Not all charging stations will work with all devices. Wireless charging stations will only work with devices that support wireless charging. USB-A and USB-C charging stations will only charge devices with compatible ports. If your laptop uses a traditional outlet for charging or needs more power than a USB-C charger might provide, you will need to find a charging station with AC outlets.

Q: How can I tell if my phone or smartwatch can be wirelessly charged?

You can tell if your phone or smartwatch can be wirelessly charged by finding its model name and googling it, checking your phone's user manual, or attempting to charge it on a wireless charger. Knowing your phone can wirelessly charge is just one Google search away.

Q: Is charging with charging stations slower than using a charger for one device?

The speed of charging depends on the charging station you're using. Chargers with a high wattage will charge faster than those with a lower wattage. Charging stations will provide the fastest charging available when a single device is plugged in but will distribute the power to multiple devices if there are more. This might result in slower charging speeds than you'd expect when using a charger for one device.

Q: How do you charge multiple devices at once?

You can charge multiple devices at once using a multi-device charger or charging station. A charging station is an ideal solution since it keeps all of your devices nicely organized in one location, making it perfect for use on a nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk.

Q: Can you put multiple devices on a wireless charger?

You can only charge one device on a standard wireless charging pad. If you want to put two phones or more on a wireless charger, you'll need a 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 charging station. These wireless chargers include two or more wireless charging modules, allowing you to simultaneously charge multiple devices.

UCOMX 15W Nano 3-in-1 Wireless Charger

Fast 15-watt charging

Folds into multiple arrangements

Compatible with all Apple Watch models

AirPods magnet not strong enough

Some units defective within a year

The UCOMX 15W Nano 3-in-1 Wireless Charger can lie flat, it can fold up fully for storage or portability, or it can be arranged as a stand that holds your phone in portrait or landscape orientation. And of course it can charge up your iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch, too, and faster than many other wireless charging stations out there because this is a 15-watt output charger.

Whether you use this charger on your desk at work, by your bed at home, or as you travel, it will serve you well thanks to its physical adaptability. Beyond the folding and multiple position options, clever features include the popup watch charger and the gentle LED indicator lights that show you when a proper connection for charging has been made. The 15W Nano is compatible with all iPhones from the 12th generation through the 15th, and it should be forward compatible for some time.

Anlmz 3-in-1 Charging Station  »

Anlmz 3-in-1 Charging Station

Great price point

Works with iPhone 8 - 15

Small footprint

Not compatible with many cases, popsockets

Does not support AirPods Pro2

Don’t let the tiny price tag of the Anlmz 3-in-1 Charging Station mislead you: this is a perfectly good 3-in-1 charging station that works with all iPhones from the 8 forward, with all Apple Watches, and with almost every variation of AirPods, too. And it’s a clever charger, too: once the station detects that your phone has reached its full charge capacity, it automatically reduces its power output to a mere trickle that keeps the phone powered up and reduces the chance of overheating.

With a 10-watt output for the phone charger, a five-watt AirPods charger, and a three-watt Apple Watch charger, this affordable device can have all of your electronics powered up from fully drained batteries in about three and a half hours. It measures just under four inches across and is barely five inches tall, so this is a compact charging station that will fit almost anywhere, from a narrow shelf at home to the fold-down tray on a plane.

ESR 3-in-1 Travel Charge Stand  »

ESR 3-in-1 Travel Charge Stand

Folds down flat

Watch charger can be used independently

Backed by robust warranty

Compact but heavy

Watch can’t charge while stand is flat

The ESR 3-in-1 Travel Charge Stand was made with the frequent traveler in mind. If you’re a traveler who uses an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, then you are said person. This compact 3-in-1 system folds flat when it’s not in use so it can be popped into a bag or even tucked into a pocket. While it is powering up your devices, it can serve as an upright stand for your phone. And the watch charger can be detached and connected directly to a separate charging block or to a USB-C port on a computer and can charge your Apple Watch independently.

And while this may be a compact and portable charging device, it’s sturdy enough for daily use and it’s powerful enough to be your primary charger thanks to its 15-watt phone charge output. The ESR 3-in-1 Travel Charge Stand comes with a power outlet charging adapter, a five-foot USB-C cable, that removable watch charger, and even with a handy travel case that can accommodate all of that hardware plus the charger itself.

Belkin MagSafe 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand  »

Belkin MagSafe 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand

Makes phone and watch easy to see

Broads watch and AirPods compatibility

Sturdy magnetic connection

Heavy and rather large

The Belkin MagSafe 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand elevates your phone more than most wireless charging stations and holds it at just the right angle for easy viewing or for use as a platform for a video chat, making this charging stand ideal for use at work. And in fact, it puts your watch on clear display, too, so you’ll never miss a text or a notification even as your devices charge. And the MagSafe charging pad creates a reliably solid connection, so your phone won’t fall off the charger even if you brush against it while working or your desk gets jostled.

Weighing in at nearly two pounds, this is a larger charging station than most, but that size helps lend some of the aforementioned stability, and it lends the Belkin MagSafe 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand a commanding look there on your desktop. And with its 15-watt output power, the charger lives up to its looks in terms of performance, too. Also robust is the two-year “Connected Equipment Warranty” that covers up to $2,500 of damages should such occur while your devices are on the charger.

Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Charging Station  »

Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Charging Station

Very small footprint

Multiple safety features

Folds flat when not in use

On the pricey side

Only works with iPhone 13 and newer

With its minimal footprint and very softly glowing LED indicator lights, the Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Charging Station is a perfect 3-in-1 charging station for your nightstand, a spot where real estate can be at a premium. And it can fold up and be tucked away into a drawer when it’s not in use. But while it might be small, this charger is pretty mighty. It can rapidly charge up your phone with a 15-watt wireless connection, and it can power a watch up to 50% battery in just over half an hour.

You won’t ever have to worry about your devices overheating when they spend all those nighttime hours connected because the Anker MagGo 3-in-1 Charging Station uses an “ActiveShield” temperature monitoring system that checks the heat levels of connected devices an astounding 3,000,000 times per day and adjusts charge levels if overheating is beginning to occur. The charger also prevents overcurrent and overvoltage damage.

Satechi 3-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand  »

Satechi 3-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand

Sleek and stylish looks

Good angle for screen viewing

Modest 7.5-watt charging

If the Satechi 3-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand weren’t a perfectly functional and reliable charging system, we would never recommend it based on its looks alone, but the simple fact is this is a cool-looking charger. And as your charging station is likely to be on prominent display at all times, why not let looks be a factor? It’s elegantly simple and sleek, with modern lines and a sturdy base. But while sleek, this stand is plenty sturdy, easily holding up even the largest iPhones in landscape or portrait orientation.

The 7.5-watt phone charger lags behind a 15-watt charger in terms of charging speed, but this charging stand delivers more than enough power to keep your phone gaining a charge even as you actively use it. And it handily powers up your Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time, all while looking great.

CIYOYO Wireless Charging Station for Apple  »

CIYOYO Wireless Charging Station for Apple

Works with non-Apple devices

Anti-slip silicone base

Slow charging when all 3 devices connected

Some units fail within a year

The CIYOYO Wireless Charging Station for Apple is just three inches wide and less than five inches deep, so it can perch on a narrow shelf, tuck in on a cluttered desk, or even take up residence on a window ledge. It achieves its minimal footprint by placing the watch charger at the top of the unit with the earbuds charger just below it, set behind the angled phone charging stand. And note we don’t specifically say iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirPods, because this charging station works with Apple devices and many non-Apple gadgets, too.

The station comes in a half dozen different color options, all of which are on the basic but classy side (think black, white, or tan) and it has an understated style that lets it blend in with its surroundings rather than stand out. Bright green LED indicators let you know a charging connection has been made, and they switch off after 20 seconds, which is good if you plan to use this station in the bedroom.

The Bottom Line

The UCOMX 15W Nano 3-in-1 Wireless Charger is our pick for the best 3-in-1 Apple charging station overall because it is effective, affordable, and adaptable, folding into a raised stand for viewing convenience or laying flat for ease of use. Each of the other 3-in-1 chargers we cover here has features that might make it the best 3-in-1 Apple charging station for your needs, so take a close look at all of them and consider how and where you do your device charging.

Things To Consider When Buying a 3-in-1 Apple Charging Station

Device Compatibility: It’s important that your 3-in-1 charging station is compatible not just with an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, but with the generation and models of these devices that you own and use, so make sure to identify your specific phone, watch, and earbuds and check to see that they are supported. And note that in limited cases, these charging stations also work with other brands, such as with a Samsung Galaxy phone, in case you ever cross brand boundaries.

Charging Speed and Power Output: Qi charging, which is charging via electromagnetic induction, was until recently often limited to 7.5 watts, though many wireless chargers operate at twice that output today. At 15 watts, a fully drained iPhone should be at nearing% battery in around an hour and fully powered up in two and a half, but note that many chargers will take longer to fully charge your phone, especially if three devices are charging at once.

Additional Features: Because all 3-in-1 charging stands for Apple devices have the same base functions, it can be the other features that make one a best pick for you. Look for things like LED indicators that confirm charging, for example. Or look for adjustable and adaptable stands, says Doud, such as “a watch charger that rotates out from underneath the charging stand making it very compact [or] chargers that fold up for easy storage.”

Design and Footprint: The physical size of your charging station matters quite a bit if you travel often or need it in a tight space, such as on a small nightstand. Otherwise, all such stations are relatively small and what matters more is the form and function of your 3-in-1. “Look for chargers equipped with an easy-to-use magnetic connection and built-in modules that works when an iPhone is in both portrait and landscape modes,” says Lirette.

Price and Value: “The 60 to 70 dollar range is actually relatively cheap for this product category,” says Doud, so know that you may have to shell out more than you expect to get unique features in a 3-in-1 charging station. That said, there are several more budget-friendly options that are well worth your consideration.

How We Chose the Best 3-in-1 Apple Charging Stations

Every 3-in-1 Apple charging stations will meet your basic needs, namely charging three different types of devices at once. It’s in identifying quality of construction, value, and unique use case that key differences emerge. To help select the best 3-in-1 Apple charging stations, contributor Steven John reached out to some tech experts who have spent their fair share of time considering this highly specific type of hardware.

The individuals to whom John spoke included senior mobile tech analyst and tech review podcaster Adam Doud ; and Dani Lirette, senior account executive with the tech-focused Max Borges Agency . Doud and Lirette both offered specific product recommendations and general insights into what to look for in a 3-in-1 Apple charging station. This included points about the devices themselves, but also thoughts on their use, such as which options were the best for travel, which the best for your desk at work, and so on.

Armed with expert input, John combed through the plethora of 3-in-1 Apple charging stations available, using the data he found as well as plentiful reviews and ratings left by verified buyers to arrive his selection of the best products.

Why Should You Trust Us?

U.S. News & World Report contributor Steven John has spent more than 12 years testing and writing about various products, services, apps, travel destinations, and more. His range of product testing experience includes everything from tech hardware to office furniture to fitness apparel and much more, including many different types of charging devices. In addition to his work writing for U.S. News & World Report, John also contributes to a number of other major publications, such as Insider, New York Magazine, Dad Gear Review, Architectural Digest, Forbes, and more.

3-in-1 Apple Charging Stations FAQs

First and foremost, make sure the charger can accommodate all three of those portable electronic devices you use daily, namely, says Doud, “your phone, your watch, and your AirPods.” But he adds that you also need to consider how the devices are placed and how adaptable the charger is, saying: “[Look] for a charger that serves as a stand for watching media in landscape orientation [or] for travel, one that’s very compact.”

Making sure your devices will work with a charging station simply requires reading the stats, and note that almost all of the best 3-in-1 Apple charging stations are relatively future proof, designed to work with phones, watches, and earbuds that have not even been released yet. Most are also backward compatible with several generations of iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, but do take the time to read which models will work with your new charging station.

There are indeed safety concerns that come with charging stations, such as overheating that can damage a device and, in extreme cases, present a fire hazard. But all of the 3-in-1 charging stations that we have featured here have overheat protection features, so your phone, watch, earbuds, and your property are all safe when you use these devices.

A 3-in-1 charger reduces the need for cables and charging blocks and lets you charge three critical devices at once, but it also has two more benefits that must not be overlooked. First, most such charging stations can prop up your phone for easy viewing, both your view of the screen and the camera’s view of you for photos, videos, or a FaceTime or Zoom session. And second, by storing all of your major portable electronic devices in one place, these Apple charging stations make it less likely you will misplace and lose any of your hardware.

Multi-device chargers

Quick List 1. Best overall 2. Best for multiple phones 3. Best for Apple lovers 4. Best on a budget 5. Best premium 6. Best for Apple Watch users Q&A

If you have found yourself with lots of tech and don't quite have the plugs to charge up a laptop, tablet, smartwatch, and smartphone at once, you will be better served by a nice sturdy charging station.

For this reason, we recommend fitting your home with some nice charging stations to better use the space and retire that mass of wires you have shoved in a draw.

In this guide, we've gone over a range of devices, all fitting a different style, budget, and use case.  If you're looking to charge up the beefy iPhone 14 Pro and MacBook Pro with M2 quickly and at the same time, we've got you covered.

If you feel even these are a little cumbersome, have a look at the best wireless chargers guide next. For more, it may even be worth checking out the best docking stations for MacBook Pro if you have found ports to be an issue. In the meantime, all of the best USB charging stations below will ensure your electronic essentials are powered up and raring to go.

Satechi Dock5 Multi-Device Charging Station

The Satechi Dock5 has loads of space to charge up all your devices and plenty of plugs to get them connected to a power source. It's still relatively compact for a device of its type, and it even includes a wireless charging pad so that you can charge your AirPods with your iPhone and iPad.

SIIG 90W Smart 10-Port USB Charging Station

This multiple device dock puts your devices at a slight angle, so that you can more easily access them while they're charging. There's room here for 10 devices, and connections to get them all charging at the same time. There's also a wireless charging coil for an extra device like a pair of AirPods or an extra iPhone.

Sabrent Premium 60 Watt (12 Amp) 10-Port Aluminum USB Rapid Charger

This option doesn't have the addition of a stand for your devices, but it does have 10 USB ports to connect all your iPhones, iPads, and more to a power source. It's super compact as well, so it will blend into any spot you put it. It's available in a fetching white color as well, perfect for the Apple faithful.

Key Power Quick Charge 3.0 Wall Charger

While it doesn't have quite as many ports as some of the other options on the list, it makes up for it by being really inexpensive. It's also got a little stand on it for your iPhone, so that you can prop it up while charging — and divides its six ports between USB-C and USB-A so there's better compatibility for all your stuff.

Hercules Tuff Charging Station

This chunky charger not only has space for loads of your devices but it's also built out of a massive chunk of aluminum. That means its weighty, so there's no chance of it moving around as you're plugging your devices into one of the six USB ports on the side. There are little dividers between each device as well so they don't scratch each other.

SooPii 60W 6-Port Charging Station

If you're looking for something that will charge more than just your iPhone and your iPad, then you're looking in the right place with this option. There's an extra arm on the side of the device where you can plug an Apple Watch charger, so you can charge your smartwatch with the rest of your devices.

1. Satechi Dock5 Multi-Device Charging Station

Specifications, reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

If you are looking for a way to keep all of your devices charged up without having absolute chaos, then the Satechi Charging Station Dock is our favorite of the bunch.

This dock can charge everything you throw at it. Satechi makes some of the most premium accessories on the market, and this seven-port charging station is no different. Velcro straps are included, so your array of cables don't end up too unruly while keeping your desk space clutter-free. Additionally, each slot is large enough to accommodate even the largest smartphones and any cases you may have installed.

Satechi thought about almost everything with this charging station, as there is even surge protection built-in. It even features a wireless charging pad.The Satechi

Charging Station is one of the best you can get, especially if you care about keeping your devices organized.

2. SIIG 90W Smart 10-Port USB Charging Station

This 90W charging station from SIIG is pretty impressive, thanks to the fact that you can charge up to 10 devices at once. Plus, ambient light is included to make sure you are plugging everything into the right spot.

These, combined with SIIG's smart charging, ensure that your devices won't overcharge once they've reached 100%. Unfortunately, this station has the same issue as others since having so many devices in one place can end up wreaking havoc. And you are out of luck if you want to charge your smartphone with just the USB-C cable.

The SIIG Charging Station is perfect for those with lots of different devices, as there are slots for anything (with a notable exception of a smartwatch dock) and  an ambient light, which is really handy.

3. Sabrent Premium 60 Watt (12 Amp) 10-Port Aluminum USB Rapid Charger

Some folks don't want an actual stand to charge their multitude of devices, and that's where Sabrent's desktop charger comes in. It sports a slanted design for access to the USB ports, but you simply plug in the charging cable for your devices and go.

This design looks extremely clean and will blend in rather nicely sitting next to your iMac or one of the best MacBook devices. However, there are no USB-C portshere, and the LED indicator light cannot be turned on, so you'll have to resort to unplugging the charger if the light is bothersome. That's why we think this is a great choice if you work at a desk all day and that's when you often prefer to charge up your gadgets.

This charging station has an aluminium build and includes a rubber bottom so that it stays in place while you plug in your devices.

The Key Power Desktop Charging Station pictured on a grey surface charging a phone

4. Key Power Quick Charge 3.0 Wall Charger

This USB charging station from Key Power has a tower design, so you don't need to worry about accidentally falling over when more devices are plugged in. While it's a tower, the charger is still compact enough not to take up a boat-load of space on the desk and measures in at just over 4 inches. This is why it's our top recommendation if you're short on space, as well as if you're on a budget as it's one of the cheapest options in our guide.

There's a handy LED light, which lets you know when your devices are being charged. However, if you are hoping for some Quick Charge support, you'll need to look elsewhere. Plus, there is no dedicated On/Off switch to turn it off when all of your devices are ready to go.

If you are looking for a no-frills charger that won't take up a bunch of space, then the Key Power Station may be the best fit. If you want more features, take a look at the Hercules Tuff Charging Station further down in our guide.

The Hercules Tuff Six-Port Charging Station pictured charging multiple smartphones

5. Hercules Tuff Charging Station

This superhero of a charging station uses 2.4 amps to fast charge multiple devices such as smartphones, tablets, watches, and other compatible USB electronics. It’s a six-port, USB Type-A, fast charging dock that will juice your devices up to 58% faster than other charging stations offering 2.0 amps or less.

Hercules Tuff features overvoltage and overcharge protection for peace of mind while you’re charging. It has blue light charging status indicators that turn off when charging is complete, and illuminated, and adjustable dividers, that work with any phone or tablet case to keep your devices nicely organized in a row.

On the downside, this charging station has no power switch. You turn it on and off by plugging or unplugging it from the wall. Additionally, the power port for the station is located on the same side as all the other charging ports. It would be nice if the power port for the dock was located on the back or the opposite side, so it didn’t take up valuable space.

The SooPii 60W 6-Port Charging Station pictured in a living room with a family on a settee blurred in the background

6. SooPii 60W 6-Port Charging Station

If you're looking for one of the best USB charging stations with a simple and minimal aesthetic and set up, we recommend this six port charging station from SooPii.

It has a futuristic look thanks to its mostly transparent design, which means it should look the part in most homes as it's so unobtrusive. There's super-fast charging on offer here and you can juice up six devices at once, with a range of cables to pick from.

It has dedicated holders for different kinds of devices, which you can move around and slot into the base. However, some online reviews do note that these dividers are flimsy if you're stacking big or heavy products. For that reason, we'd say this is a solid option if you need to juice up a lot of smaller gadgets, like your phone, e-reader or smartwatch.

How to choose the best USB charging station

When it comes to finding the best USB charging station for you, we most often recommend the Satechi Charging Station Dock. We like that this charging station features five standard USB ports and two USB-C ports, making it a powerful charging station capable of keeping all of your devices juiced up at the same time.

Add in that Satechi includes velcro for cable management, along with built-in docks for your devices, and this is a no-brainer that won't just charge your devices, but will also keep your desk or office space organized. You'd be hard-pressed to find a charging station that meets all of your needs more than Satechi's offering.

This $49 power bank I always keep in my car has a jump-starting superpower

adrian-kingsley-hughes

ZDNET's key takeaways

  • The AstroAI 2000A 12V jump starter is available from Amazon for $49 .
  • It's easy to use, has a bright, clear display, and is powerful enough for over a dozen jump starts.
  • There's no USB-C output port.

Right now, it's summer, and car batteries are at their best. The weather is warm, and there's no ice, frost, or snow. Give it a few months, and you'll soon find out whether your car battery is ready for another winter.

If you're lucky, your car might falter in the morning when you're at home, or somewhere you can get emergency roadside assistance. If you're unlucky -- and it's always worth planning for when luck is not on our side -- your car will decide to die at night when it's cold and wet.

Also:  The best power banks you can buy: Expert tested

This is why it's always good to be ready to help yourself (or others, as most of the time I need a jump starter, it's for somebody else's vehicle). In short, I think the AstroAI 2000A 12V jump starter belongs in every car's glove box or trunk.

AstroAI 2000A 12V jump starter tech specs

  • Capacity : 48.84Wh
  • Peak Output Current : 2,000 amps
  • Product Dimensions : 3.8 x 6.7 x 1.6 inches
  • Output Ports USB-A 3.0 : 5V⎓3A or 9V⎓2A USB-A 2.0 : 5V⎓2.4A DC : 15V⎓10A
  • Input USB-C port : 5V⎓2A or 9V⎓2A
  • Recharge Time : 3.5 hours at 9V⎓2A
  • Weight : 2 lbs
  • Compatibility : 7.0L gas/3.0L diesel 12V engines

I'm old enough to remember when car jump starters were huge, heavy devices containing lead-acid batteries. Actually, I can remember when we jump-started cars using jumper cables. Things have moved on, and now you can get a device that's a substitute for your car's battery that's not much bigger than a power bank.

Since most people don't need to jump-start cars all the time, this device is primarily a big power bank. It features two USB-A ports for charging devices and a DC output where you can attach a car 12V socket to power devices, such as car vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, and tire compressors.

Outputs and the input for charging

There's a USB-C port built into the jump starter, although it's only used to charge the device. That's a shame because USB-C is now pretty much the standard everywhere, and charging modern devices with USB-A is slow. That said, having USB-C to charge the jump starter is a huge advantage over devices that still use micro USB.

Also:  This powerful power bank is perfect if you charge a lot of devices

At the end of the jump starter, there's a compass. While I'm not sure what I'd use it for, the compass does sort of point north, which is a nice change from some of the others I've seen built into things like power banks.

The compass.

No jump starter would be complete without an LED flashlight, and this one offers four modes: flashlight, strobe, SOS, and flashing red warning lights. It's a neat feature, especially when trying to jump-start your car at night in the rain.

LED flashlight

The LCD is big, clear, and easy to read at night and in bright sunshine, giving you a quick view of what the jump starter is doing.

Around the display are three tactile buttons that turn the jump starter on, the flashlight on, and the boost mode on. There's also a light that shows when the jump starter is being charged.

LED display and buttons

The main purpose of the jump starter is, as the name suggests, to jump-start vehicles with a dead battery. Can the AstroAI 2000A do this? You bet it can. I tested the device several times and found that each jump-start took about 5% off the battery life. If I switched to boost mode, needed if the car battery is severely depleted, each start took about 10%.

Also: Is car charging destroying your iPhone?

Everything about the jump starter is nice, easy, and straightforward, which is exactly what you need because, as I mentioned earlier, chances are you won't use your jump starter on a bright sunny day. It's likely to be dark, cold, and wet, so the more straightforward the device, the better.

The AstroAI 2000A 12V jump starter in action

The process is simple. Connect the jump leads to the jump starter, attach the crocodile clips to the appropriate terminals on your car's battery, power up the jump starter, and start your vehicle as you normally would. When you're done, you can pack everything in a handy little pouch, ready for the next time you need the device.

ZDNET's buying advice

The AstroAI 2000A 12V jump starter  is a neat, easy-to-use, yet powerful piece of kit. For $49, it's hard to go wrong. Whether you want to charge your phone or start your car, this jump starter is up to the job. All you need to do is open your car's hood, find your car's battery, and the jump starter will guide you through the rest.

This device epitomizes what an emergency tool should be. This jump starter is something you can use day-to-day to charge your smartphone and tablet, rather than something you throw into the trunk and forget about until your car breaks down.

Russian L-Charge unveiled rapid mobile charging station for electric vehicles

travel charging stations

L-Charge is a Russian manufacturer of innovative charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. The company has lately introduced its rapid mobile L-Charge charging station for electric vehicles and launched its test operation in Moscow . As you can see from the picture above, the mobile charging station is indeed a truck which can travel around the city, charging electrical vehicles upon demand. The truck be summoned via a Telegram bot and is currently available within the Moscow Ring Road. We’ve already been talking about quick charging solutions in this post .

According to the official statements, the Russian company does not plan to restrict itself to the Russian capital and other Russian cities: it is already exploring the possibility of launching the charging service in the United States and a number of European cities. Among the first targets on a global scale are cities like Paris, Berlin, New York, Amsterdam and London .

L-Charge: mobile or stationary charging stations

The company’s innovative solution and business model have already attracted interest from investors, with over 1.5 million dollars raised already . The funds have come from private investors attracted by the ability to charge an electric vehicle with sufficient power for 100 km in just 3-8 minutes using a hydrogen or gas-fueled electrical generator.

How to use the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Disney World?

There are multiple ChargePoint stations beyond the Disney Parks and throughout the Disney area hotels.

You can use the ChargePoint app to see if there are any open charging stations before you go through the park gates.

In order to use these stations, you have to:

  • Download the ChargePoint app
  • Enter a credit card (or you can pre-ordered ChargePoint card)
  • Tap your phone or ChargePoint card to the reader
  • The charging cable will unlock
  • Connect the charging cable to your electric vehicle (please note that your car may need a special adaptor to connect the cable)
  • Head into the park and enjoy your day!
  • Once your vehicle is fully charged, you will get a “ping” to let you know that y our car is ready
Hipster Power Tip: If you have a Tesla, then you’ll need a special adaptor port for Disney.

You can get your own Tesla trip planner here.

How much does it cost to use the Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Disney?

The cost is $0.35 per kilowatt hour. A minimum service amount of $1.50 is required. Charging will stop once your vehicle’s battery is fully charged.

However, the Electric Vehicle Charging stations at Disney Springs do run at a cost a bit higher than those throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

The electric vehicle charging stations in front of Cirque du Soleil in the Watermelon parking lot have a rate of $0.40 per kwh.

They do give you a 20-minute grace period . Then after this, you will be charged $0.30 per minute up until you move your car.

Disney World Parking Secrets and Tips for Your Electric Car

  • Beware that you may be parked longer than needed for charging your car if you plan on having a full day at the park
  • The ChargePoint stations have a slow charging speed around 25 miles of range every hour
  • Use a power charging station before you get to the parks to save charging time if you have something like a Tesla
  • Move your car from the charging space as soon as it is fully charged to give someone else the opportunity to charge — it’s just a courtesy to your fellow Disney peeps
  • Remember that using the charge stations will mean that you’ll have to go back to the car lot to remove your vehicle
  • Have the ChargePoint app downloaded to check space availability at the parks
  • You will pay the standard Disney World parking fees to enter the EV charging stations
Hipster Power Tip: Annual Passholders can still take advantage of their free parking perk while using EV charging stations. However, you will have to pay the EV charging fees mentioned earlier in this article.

Chase Freedom Q3 categories: 5% cash back on gas/EV charging, movie theaters and live entertainment

Emily Thompson

We're almost halfway through 2024, which means it's time for a new set of Chase Freedom bonus categories. And for Q3, Chase is bringing back the chance to earn bonus rewards on some of our biggest summer expenses.

From June 15, Chase Freedom Flex® and Freedom cardholders can activate to earn bonus rewards at movie theaters and gas and electric vehicle charging stations and on select live entertainment purchases.

This is great news for those of us hitting the road to our favorite summer destinations — especially if that destination involves live entertainment.

Here's how it all works.

The information for the Freedom credit card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex Q3 2024 categories

From July 1 through September 30, Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex cardholders can earn bonus cash back (or points) at movie theaters and gas and EV charging stations and on select live entertainment purchases.

As noted above, you must activate these categories to unlock the bonus-earning potential on these two cards.

travel charging stations

It's simple to complete this process through your Chase account — with your last name, the last four digits of your card and your ZIP code. Registration is now open.

Analyzing the Q3 bonus categories

If you're like me and cram as many road trips into summer as possible, the gas/EV charging station category will be music to your ears. This is a valuable bonus category and it is not offered on many Chase cards.

And regardless of how you prefer to travel, the past few years have highlighted just how far we're willing to go (and how much we're willing to pay) to see our favorite artists and sports teams in person. If you have your eye on some upcoming tickets, you'll love the chance to earn bonus rewards on those purchases.

Of course, if you're doing a staycation this summer, going to the movies is the perfect activity to get out of the sun and catch the latest releases — and earn some bonus rewards while you're at it.

travel charging stations

Here are the bonus details:

  • Gas and EV charging stations: Freedom and Freedom Flex cardholders will earn 5% back when hitting the road — whether you're filling up the gas tank or charging a more eco-friendly vehicle. However, only merchants who primarily sell gas or EV charging are included in this category, and you won't trigger it if you get gas at a superstore or use a residential EV charging station.
  • Movie theaters: This category includes ticket purchases from both traditional and drive-in movie theaters. Keep in mind, though, that the concessions you buy at the theater often code differently than tickets and may not trigger the bonus rewards.
  • Select live entertainment: This category probably brings to mind concerts, but it also includes entertainment like major sporting events, zoos and aquariums, concerts, theatrical productions, tourist attractions and exhibits, amusement parks, carnivals, bands and entertainers. Note that these purchases must be made directly with the establishment to earn the bonus rewards; purchases made through a hotel or concierge are not included.

Remember that Chase limits the 5% back (or 5 points per dollar) to the first $1,500 spent in combined bonus categories each quarter you activate the bonus. After you reach the maximum, you'll earn the usual earning rates on your card.

Frequently asked questions about Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex bonus categories

How do rotating categories work.

Each quarter, Chase announces a group of bonus categories that will earn 5% cash back (or 5 points per dollar) throughout the upcoming three-month period. Generally, these categories are announced halfway through the month before the new quarter starts to give cardmembers time to activate new categories beforehand. However, you can activate your categories until midway through the last month of the quarter.

The categories tend to repeat periodically — for instance, grocery stores , restaurants and gas stations are all common categories you'll notice frequently pop up on the cash-back calendar. So, depending on the categories and whether you can maximize them, these two cards can offer quite a nice chunk of cash back or bonus points over the course of a year.

Related: Check out our full Chase Freedom Flex card review

How much cash back can I earn each quarter?

Chase limits the 5% back (or 5 points per dollar) to the first $1,500 spent in combined bonus categories each quarter you activate the bonus.

While that may not sound like a lot, that cash back adds up over time. Maximizing the cash-back categories each quarter, you'll earn $75 in cash back quarterly and up to $300 per year. For a no-annual-fee credit card , that's a lot of value.

Alternatively, since the cash back you earn comes in the form of Ultimate Rewards points, you're looking at a potential of up to 30,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards earned each year. Suppose you also have a premium product like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card . In that case, you can combine the Ultimate Rewards points you earn with your Chase Freedom or Freedom Flex card with those you earn from your more premium Ultimate Rewards-earning card, and they become fully transferable .

In that case, TPG values Chase points at 2.05 cents apiece, so the 30,000 you can earn in a year would be worth more like $615.

How do I activate my 5% categories each quarter?

You can head to Chase's site to activate your 5% cash back (or 5 points per dollar) for this quarter. You can also register through your Chase mobile app, making one less credit card website you'll need to visit regularly this year.

Here's how to register:

  • Head to the Chase bonus activation page or log in to your Chase account.
  • Enter your last name, the last four digits of your card number and your billing ZIP code. If you don't have your card on hand, log in to your Chase account to retrieve these digits.
  • Click "Activate your 5%" to register.
  • If you have multiple Chase Freedom cards, make sure to register each one.
  • Save a screenshot of your activation in case of any issues later — though you should also receive a "You're Activated!" confirmation email.

Can I have both the Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex to double my earning potential?

Yes, you can have both cards. So, if you already have the Chase Freedom and want to add the Chase Freedom Flex to your wallet, you're free to do so. Remember that the original Freedom card is no longer open to new applicants.

But if you'd rather only have one, the Freedom Flex is available as a product change .

And, of course, you'll also want to ensure you're eligible for a new Chase card .

How do I maximize my Freedom and Freedom Flex cards?

The most important thing is to make sure you activate your card to earn the 5% cash back (or 5 points per dollar) each quarter in the specific categories, then use your card for purchases in those categories.

You can set up a recurring reminder in your calendar or sign up for the TPG newsletter (we send out a reminder when it's time to activate every quarter — plus tips and tricks for maximizing your card strategy and scoring some excellent award redemptions ).

Better yet, paired with a Chase credit card that earns fully transferable Ultimate Rewards points like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card , the Chase Freedom Flex's 5% cash back effectively becomes 5 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar, as you can learn all about in our guide detailing the "Chase Trifecta ."

In that case, you'll be able to transfer the points earned with the Freedom Flex to Ultimate Rewards points and to travel partners like Southwest , Hyatt and United .

What are common bonus categories for the Freedom and Freedom Flex?

Of course, you'll also want to make sure that you'll potentially be able to maximize other bonus categories throughout the year. For reference, here are the previous Chase Freedom quarterly categories all the way back to 2012 so you can decide if common categories make sense for your spending patterns:

Bottom line

If you're a Chase Freedom or Freedom Flex cardholder, activate now to earn bonus rewards at movie theaters, gas/EV charging stations and on select live entertainment purchases between July 1 and September 30.

In addition to the rotating 5% cash back bonus categories, the Freedom Flex accrues 5% cash back on all other travel booked through Chase Travel , 3% cash back on drugstores, 3% cash back on dining (including eligible delivery services) and 1% unlimited cash back on all other purchases.

Apply here: Chase Freedom Flex with a sign-up bonus of $200 cash back after spending $500 on purchases within the first three months of account opening.

While we haven't been able to bring you our regular live coverage, we have been keeping an eye on today's latest developments.

Here are the key updates:

  • The Ukrainian military issued a rare statement confirming it had struck four oil refineries in Russia during an early morning drone attack;
  • South Korea summoned the Russian ambassador over the country's new defence pact with North Korea;
  • A Russian guided bomb killed two people and wounded three others in the eastern Ukrainian town of Selydove, according to regional prosecutors;
  • European Union countries have formally approved the launch of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova next week;
  • Vladimir Putin said Russia would keep developing its arsenal of nuclear weapons to preserve the "balance of power in the world".

Here's a look at the latest situation on the ground:

That's all of our live coverage on the conflict for now.

We'll bring you any major developments overnight, and we'll be back with our regular updates in the morning.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he is "deeply grateful" for Joe Biden's decision to prioritise air defence deliveries for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president said his country was in critical need of the capabilities to protect its cities and civilians from Russian attacks.

"The partnership between Ukraine and the United States is strong and unwavering. Together, we are protecting life against terror and aggression," he added.

It comes after the US said a recent defence pact signed by Russia and North Korea was a "cause for concern".

The recently signed defence pact between Russia and North Korea is a cause of concern but is no surprise, the White House has said.

Speaking to reporters, White House spokesman John Kirby said the agreement between the two countries was a sign of Russia's desperation for foreign assistance in the Ukraine war.

The deal has seen both countries vow to help each other if they faced armed aggression, and replaces previous treaties between the countries.

Russia said the pact was needed because of "the deep evolution of the geopolitical situation in the world and the region".

Mr Kirby also said the US would reprioritise planned deliveries of foreign military equipment to go to Ukraine, which is in "desperate need" of more air defence capabilities.

Vladimir Putin has warned that South Korea would be making a "big mistake" if it decides to supply weapons to Ukraine.

The Russian president's comments come after South Korea said a new defence agreement between North Korea and Moscow was "absurd" and it would reconsider sending arms to Kyiv as a result.

Mr Putin said Seoul had nothing to worry about when it came to the mutual defence pact.

Russian state media quoted him as saying that Moscow expected its cooperation with North Korea to serve as a deterrent to the West.

He also refused to rule out supplying high-precision weapons to the country.

Russia is considering making changes to its nuclear weapons doctrine, Vladimir Putin has said.

The Russian president made the comments while speaking to reporters at the end of his Vietnam trip.

The existing doctrine states that Russia may use such weapons in response to a nuclear strike or in the event of a conventional attack that poses an existential threat to the country.

Ukrainian troops have been launching mid-range reconnaissance drones in Kharkiv.

Russian forces crossed into parts of the northeastern region last month, and officials claim they have seized at least a dozen villages.

But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Kyiv's forces are gradually pushing Russian troops out of the contested area.

A police search is under way for a woman who allegedly desecrated the graves of Ukrainian soldiers.

Kyiv city's prosecutor's office said the unknown woman vandalised the graves this morning.

Commemorative plaques and lamps were torn off and broken, it said.

The Ukrainian flag was also "mutilated", it added.

"Operational investigations and searches are being carried out to establish the woman's identity," the office said in post on Telegram.

If caught and found guilty, the woman could face up to five years in prison.

We have been reporting today on Vladimir Putin's visit to Vietnam.

Here is a recap of what the Russian president has been up to:

  • Mr Putin signed a series of deals with his Vietnamese counterpart To Lam during his state visit;
  • The two leaders signed agreements to further co-operation on education, science and technology, oil and gas exploration and health;
  • They also agreed to work on a road map for a nuclear science and technology centre in Vietnam;
  • Following the talks, Mr Putin said that the two countries share an interest in "developing a reliable security architecture" in the Asia-Pacific region based on not using force and peacefully settling disputes with no room for "closed military-political blocs";
  • The Russian leader also met Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and is scheduled to meet Communist Party general secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - Vietnam's most powerful politician;
  • The trip has resulted in a sharp rebuke from the US embassy in the country.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Romania's decision to provide his country with two Patriot air defence systems will strengthen security in Ukraine and throughout Europe.

"This crucial contribution will bolster our air shield and help us better protect our people and critical infrastructure from Russian air terror," the Ukrainian president said on X.

The Patriot, which stands for Phased Array Tracking Radar for Intercept on Target, is a surface-to-air missile defence system.

For months now, Ukraine has been calling for countries to provide more air defence systems to help protect it from Russian attacks.
