What is the Halloween Horror Nights RIP Tour?

The Halloween Horror Nights RIP tour is an exclusive VIP experience that allows guests instant access to all of the haunted houses, scare zones, and HHN shows throughout Halloween Horror Nights.   Guests will have the option to choose between a non-private Universal Studios RIP tour and a private RIP tour, and tours will typically depart at 7:00 PM, 7:30 PM, 8:00 PM, and 8:30 PM depending on availability when choosing your tour. And from from our experience, we typically find the earlier tour times to book up first so we highly recommend checking out our discount Halloween Horror Nights ticket page and booking your RIP tour as soon as possible if this is something you know that you would like to experience this year!

Do you also need a separate Halloween Horror Nights ticket with the RIP tour?

Guests will need both a Halloween Horror Nights admission ticket as well as the Universal Orlando RIP tour in order to experience both. It’s also important to note that this does not matter if you purchase the non-private HHN RIP tour or the private HHN RIP tour you will still need to purchase a separate Halloween Horror nights admission ticket.

What’s included with the Halloween Horror Nights RIP Tour?

The Halloween Horror Nights VIP tour includes priority VIP entry to each of the HHN haunted houses, scare zones, and all Halloween Horror Nights rides which are open that evening. This also includes RIP tour reserved seating for any live shows, complimentary valet parking, a pre-tour reception, and a complimentary RIP tour lanyard and pin. The Universal Orlando RIP tour is typically 4.5 hours long once you meet up with your tour guide and the actual tour begins. It’s important to note that this does not include the pre-tour reception which is also included before hand, as well as free valet Universal Orlando parking to get you to the event even quicker.

Can I customize my RIP tour to include specific haunted houses or attractions?

The only way that guests can customize and choose exactly which HHN attractions they would be going on and when is by purchasing the private Halloween Horror Nights VIP tour. The reason being is this tour will be only for your immediate group which allows you to tell your tour guide exactly how you would like your HHN VIP experience to happen. Guests who purchase the non-private Horror Nights VIP RIP tour will be guided by their tour guide at the guides pace. It’s important to note that this does not mean that you won’t get to experience every haunted house it just means that your guide will be picking which houses you attend and when.

How Much is the RIP Tour at Halloween Horror Nights?

The non-private RIP tour for Universal Studios Orlando will cost between $359.99 to $459 per person, plus sales tax and is based on the night you select to attend. The private Halloween Horror Nights RIP tours will start around $1,800 and pricing can fluctuate based on availability. Of course, as discussed previously each guests will also have to purchase an additional Halloween Horror Nights admission ticket which will cost between $82.99 – $159.99 in order to experience either of the HHN RIP tours.

What are the cheapest nights to buy a HHN RIP tour ticket?

As a general rule of thumb the cheapest nights to purchase the Universal Horror Nights VIP tour is going to be the second and third week of September. This is right after the initial rush from the first two events and right before the Halloween rush which typically happens the last week of September and through October.

Is the Universal Orlando RIP Tour Worth it?

From our experience attending one of the private Universal Orlando VIP tours it is absolutely worth it. This is especially true if you plan to visit from the last weekend of September through October as these Halloween Horror Night events will tend to be the most crowded. And to really figure out if the Universal Orlando RIP tour is worth it we would say to consider which of the haunted houses you would like to see, and if your answer is all of them than it’s most likely worth it. With the reason being that there are 10 haunted houses at Halloween Horror Nights, plus at least two shows and five scare zones.

So if you wait an average of 45 minutes per haunted house that would mean that you need 7.5 hours to see all of them. And for the most part Halloween Horror Night events are typically 8 hours which doesn’t leave you a ton of time to see or do anything else outside of the haunted houses. However when we went on the HHN RIP tour we were able to see all of the 10 Haunted Houses within 4 hours which left us plenty of time after our tour was over to explore some of the other amazing attractions going on during the event and also grab a bite to eat.

When is the RIP Tour for Halloween Horror Nights Worth it?

• When you’re trying to see all 10 haunted houses, scare zones, shows, and attractions
• When you don’t like to wait on any long lines
• When you’re short of time and trying to get the most out of HHN

What’s the Best Way to Use the Halloween Horror Nights RIP Pass?

In our opinion one of the best way to use the Universal Orlando RIP tours is to take advantage of the Stay and Scream ticket which will allow you early access to Halloween Horror Nights.   This is especially true if you are planning to purchase the non-private VIP experience, with the reason being is that this will only allow you to visit each Haunted House once. However if you have a day ticket which allows you to stay in the park between Universal Studios Florida closing and HHN starting or the Stay and Scream ticket you can potentially get onto one or two of your favorite haunted houses within the first hour before you go to join your private HHN RIP tour.

The first Halloween Horror Nights RIP tour beings at 7:00 PM and are also held at 7:30 PM, 8:00 PM, and 8:30 PM.

Can I take photos or record videos during the HHN RIP Tour?

Unfortunately no photography or video is allowed inside any of the Haunted Houses or Shows. Guests can of course take photos and videos outside of the main haunted houses and attractions.

Halloween Horror Nights: R.I.P. Tour Review

The biggest question we get asked is the private R.I.P. tour worth the money. We are here to tell you it is worth every penny and you will wonder how you ever did HHN without it. We have been going to HHN for over 20 years and 2 years ago we had some extra cash and decided to book a private R.I.P. for the first time. We had heard so many things about R.I.P. tours and that private is the way to go if you have 10-12 friends its perfect. The first tip is to book early dates and times do fill up fast. We always book our R.I.P. for the end of October. Additionally we always book the earliest time of the evening so we can eat and get started. The earliest time is 5:30 P.M.. This time slot gives you more time to spent enjoying the event.

Another main reason to book early is cost. The longer in the season you wait the more you will end up paying. We noticed the price went up every week as it got closer to the date. The cost for our private R.I.P. was a little over four thousand dollars with our annual pass discount for 12 people. We booked our’s at the end of September for the end of October. Now let’s get into some of the perks of the R.I.P..

The private R.I.P. allows you to spend it with friends and family. You start off checking in at the V.I.P. lounge to meet your tour guide and set your itinerary. You can request the same tour guide every year if you find one that you love. We have always requested Haylee because she is simply amazing and knows everything about the parks. She has defiantly become part of our family.

Before you hit the spooky streets of HHN you start off with a buffet style dinner. It is mostly appetizer type foods but there is plenty to fill you up including some amazing desserts. This past year they had a favorite of ours Nashville Hot Mac and Cheese, and the famous Pizza Fries. You also get all the soda and water you can drink. Lastly there is a cash bar inside in case you want an adult beverage such as beer or alcoholic drinks. Cafe La Bamba was open for pretty much the whole tour to stop and relax whenever we needed to. The food wasn’t there all night but the drinks were which is nice because its so hot and you need to stay hydrated.

We all agree the best perk of an R.I.P. is skipping the lines. We all saw during HHN 31 the crowds and wait times were crazy. The biggest perk is no matter the wait time you don’t have to wait at all during your R.I.P. tour. You literally walk up and go right in and you can do the same house as many times as you want. We know with the private R.I.P. tour you have your guide until the end of the evening so it’s unlimited front of the line all night. During HHN 30 we did over 50 house walk through’s and for HHN 31 it was about 26 house walk through’s. Haylee was amazing she gave such incredible back stories on all of the scarezones and houses which made our experience that much better.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the upstairs of the Jimmy Fallon ride during your tour. There is a private cash bar lounge just for R.I.P. guests to relax. It is cool to see the park from this angle. You get to look out at all the crowds and such.

We will never do a HHN season again without including at least one R.I.P. tour night. It takes all of the stress of worrying about getting everything done and you can just enjoy the night. The perks are all there from an exclusive lanyard, to reserved seating at shows, food and drinks, a private place to relax, and most importantly zero wait times. Unofficial Guide to Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 30

After a year’s pause thanks to the pandemic, Universal Studios Florida has resurrected Halloween Horror Nights for its 30th year, and we’ve got your complete Unofficial Guide to surviving Orlando’s longest running haunted event.

September has barely begun, but the spooky season is already in full swing at Universal Orlando, thanks to the return of Halloween Horror Nights 30 on select evenings, now through October 31st. For 2021, Universal’s acclaimed annual celebration of the gory and grotesque is reaching into its storied past, in addition to joining forces with today’s top fright-makers, to find inspiration for this anniversary year’s 10 haunted houses, 5 scare zones, and 2 theater shows.

Universal ’ s Halloween Horror Nights is notorious for its congested streets and conga-line queues, but don ’ t lose hope: With the following updated touring advice from the upcoming 2022 edition of  The Unofficial Guide to Universal Orlando , you should be able to experience all of Halloween Horror Nights 30 ’ s headliner offerings—including visiting every maze once—in just one evening, without the use of extra-cost Express Passes!

Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights Background

The godfather (or is that gorefather?) of all Universal Orlando seasonal events, Halloween Horror Nights (or HHN, as it’s known to its legions of bloodthirsty fans) is recognized as the nation’s most popular and industry-awarded haunted theme park events. Originally a locals-friendly filler during a normally slow season, USF’s Halloween celebration started in 1991 as a single weekend of Fright Nights. Since then, HHN has grown so famous that the eight-week-long scare-a-bration can provide a significant percentage of USF’s annual attendance statistics. Much like visiting any of Orlando’s theme parks during a peak holiday season, an evening at Halloween Horror Nights 30 can be tremendous fun if you go in with a solid plan and sane expectations. Without those things . . . well, you might be better off eaten by zombies!

Halloween Horror Nights was canceled in 2020 and replaced with a limited celebration that allowed daytime guests to experience select haunted houses with regular admission, but the full event has thankfully been resurrected for its 30th anniversary 2021. Note that, in deference to the coronavirus Delta variant, clear vinyl or Plexiglass dividers separate guests from the performers at certain spots inside the haunted mazes, but this safety measure is mostly unintrusive.

We’ve been attending HHN every year since 1996, and it has become one of our favorite after-dark activities in any park, but it isn’t for everybody. Before attending, make sure that Universal’s brand of Halloween is right for you; this ain’t Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. HHN is a gory, gruesome bacchanalia of simulated violence and tasteless satire, marinated with a liberal dose of alcohol and rock ’n’ roll. In other words, it’s a heck of a party as long as you know what you’re getting into. If the idea of copious blood, guts, and booze doesn’t appeal to you, we advise staying far, far away. Needless to say, it’s not appropriate for young children, though you will likely see many there anyway.

The three basic elements of each year’s event are haunted houses (or mazes), outdoor scare zones, and theater shows. Universal also makes many of its regular rides available during HHN, including Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts (though not the Hogwarts Express) in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Diagon Alley.

Halloween Horror Nights Planning

Even more so than daytime touring, a successful HHN visit requires a careful date selection. In 2021, Halloween Horror Nights 30 runs for for 42 select nights September 3–October 31; visit orlando.halloween​horror​nights​.com for the calendar. In short, you want to avoid all Saturdays (especially the final three Saturdays leading up to Halloween) like the plague. Fridays in October—particularly the last two Fridays before Halloween—aren’t much better. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually the least crowded, followed by Thursdays (especially the first two) and Sundays (especially the first, but excluding the last). Opening weekend brings out all the local fans, so your best bets are the last two weeks of September or the first week of October. Halloween night itself and any nights after it are often extremely quiet. The price of Express Passes on a given night (as listed at tinyurl.com/HHN​Express ) is your best guide to how busy it will be: the larger the cost, the larger the crowds.

If you walk up to the box office on the night of the event, you’ll pay $122.99—a frightening sum for as little as 6½ hours in the park—and likely wait in a ridiculously long line for the privilege. Instead, study the myriad online ticket options in advance and purchase before you leave home.

TIP: You can buy a Rush of Fear ticket and upgrade it to an Ultimate Frequent Fear ticket on or before its expiration date.

Deep discounts (up to $52 off) are offered on advance purchases of date-specific tickets. You need to know what night you want to attend when purchasing online because prices range from $70.99 for a Wednesday in September up to $99.99 on October’s busiest Saturday. If you already have daytime admission to a Universal park, you can purchase an add-on ticket at the park that allows you to remain through the evening’s event for a discounted price, depending on the night.

Finally, if you are a hard-core haunt fan and are spending more than a night in the area, you’ll want a Frequent Fear (valid every Sunday–Thursday event night plus opening weekend, with Fridays and the final Saturday also included in the Plus version for an extra fee) or Rush of Fear (valid every event night through the first four weekends) multiday pass. Universal also offers an Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass valid every event night, in case you feel like spending more than the cost of an annual pass for a few weeks of scares. Multiday passes cost about $20 less online than at the gate. If you come for an evening and like what you see, any single-night ticket (except the free one included with Premier Annual Passes) can be upgraded to a seasonal pass before you depart.

Universal Orlando’s paid line-skipping service is a welcome luxury during the day but an absolute lifesaver at night. On peak event nights, queues for the haunted houses will approach 3 hours, and even on the slowest nights, they’ll hit 60 minutes. HHN Express Passes reduce that wait to 25%–33% of what it would otherwise be, which can make the difference between experiencing two or three houses in a night to visiting seven or more. The only catch is that Express starts at $89.99 per person and goes up to more than $179 depending on the night. Express is also available as an add-on for Rush of Fear or Frequent Fear multinight passes for an additional $300-$445. Express Passes often sell out and may be more expensive or unavailable inside the park, so if you do want them, buy in advance. On off-peak nights it’s possible to experience all the haunted houses and at least one show without Express, if you arrive early and stay until closing. On peak nights it’s virtually impossible to do the same without Express Passes, and it can be challenging even with them.

If you’re feeling particularly flush and are fed up with any kind of queue, the RIP guided tour will whisk you to the head of every line for $229.99–$369.99 depending on the night, admission not included; half-night tours may be available for half price. A private RIP tour for you and four of your friends starts at just under $3,000 and goes up to almost $4,000, with the ability to add up to 5 more guests at an additional cost (again, admission not included). For the superfans with extra spending money, Universal offers a choice of in-depth HHN experiences. Join one of Universal’s designers on daytime lights-on trips through three houses on each of the two Unmasking the Horror behind-the-scenes tours ($79.99 and up for one tour, $129.99 for both). Haunted Mazes at Halloween Horror Nights 30

The 10 haunted houses are the signature attractions at HHN and quickly develop wait times ranging from moderate to absolutely ridiculous. Four haunted mazes are housed in the huge production soundstages behind Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit; four are located in warehouses and large sprung tents erected backstage behind Springfield and World Expo; one is wedged between Men in Black and the Fear Factor Live stadium; and one takes over one of the two theaters inside Shrek 4-D.

Each year, due to theme or location, some houses seem to attract longer queues than others. Typically, the houses near the front entrance and those based on films and TV shows have been the most popular, while the original-concept mazes in the rear of the park draw shorter lines than average. Even the least popular houses, however, will have peak waits of 30 minutes or more, even on less busy nights. Keep this in mind when deciding whether to bite the bullet and queue up for a particular maze.

Here’s the full breakdown of this year’s Halloween Horror Nights haunted houses at Universal Orlando:

• The Haunting of Hill House: Welcome to Hill House, a structure more alive than its ghostly inhabitants. Inside these walls echo the haunted footsteps of those trapped here for all time.
• Beetlejuice: Got trouble with the living? You know what to say: Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. It’s showtime!
• The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Step into the dilapidated Texas home of the depraved, sadistic Sawyer family who welcome you with razor-sharp blades and a roaring chainsaw.
• The Bride of Frankenstein Lives: “We belong dead” were the last words of Frankenstein’s monster when his Bride rejected him. Now she’ll stop at nothing to bring him back.
• HHN Icons Captured: For the first time ever, 30 years of characters from your worst nightmares come together to decide who’s the most evil of them all.
• Welcome to Scarey: Horror in the Heartland: In Carey bad things just happen. No one escapes from this small town beset by an endless parade of bloodthirsty creatures and maniacs.
• Case Files Unearthed: Legendary Truth: Follow the trail of a private eye as an investigation into the supernatural leads you into a dark world of ghouls and terrifying creatures.
• The Wicked Growth: Realm of the Pumpkin: There’s no breaking free from the vines of the Pumpkin Lord, here to entrap you in his ever-growing evil.
• Puppet Theatre: Captive Audience: A puppeteer and a ballet troupe trapped in a deserted theatre for years are about to turn you into a human puppet. That’s your cue to scream.
• Revenge of the Tooth Fairy: The innocent traditions of the tooth fairy hide a darker ritual. It’s an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

We were able to preview Beetlejuice, Bride of Frankenstein Lives, and Revenge of the Tooth Fairy during 2020, and we count all three among the best mazes Universal has made in recent years. Don’t miss them!

Halloween Horror Nights 30 Touring Strategy

The event officially begins each evening at 6:30 p.m., but the front gates typically open as early as 6 p.m. If you have an HHN ticket but not daytime admission, you’ll want to be outside the park gates, ticket in hand, by 5:45 p.m. at the latest on slow nights, and as early as 5 p.m. on peak nights. Be sure to leave ample time for I-4 traffic and parking, which is full price until 10 p.m. Valet parking is available, but remember that the usual annual pass discounts on valet parking don’t apply on event nights.

After navigating the security screening in the parking hub, your goal is to secure a spot as close to the USF turnstiles as possible; don’t be shy about lining up at the temporary entry scanners at the center gate. On-site hotel guests and Universal Orlando Annual Passholders also get their own exclusive entrances on select nights. (Note that the Express Unlimited access included with some resort rooms is not valid during HHN.) Early arrivals may also get a view of a gate-opening performance, which occurs just inside the main entrance. Don’t worry if you miss this minor event; it’s a nice touch but not essential.

Stay & Scream

The best way to get a jump on the general public outside the gates is by already being inside the park before they open. The park closes to daytime guests at 5 p.m. on event nights, but anyone holding a ticket for that night’s HHN is allowed to remain inside the park in designated holding areas. Anyone can access this opportunity if they have any valid daytime park ticket, including annual pass holders, or you can add a $30 Scream Early option onto your HHN ticket to enter the park between 3 and 5 p.m.

The park is officially open for regular operations until 5 p.m., but guests taking advantage of Stay & Scream will want to enter before 4:30 p.m. to avoid dealing with the arriving evening crowds. Between the park’s closing and reopening, guests remaining in the park are confined to one of the following locations:

• The Springfield section near Fast Food Boulevard offers priority access to the first two haunted houses that open each evening. Guests in this area can queue for the two houses with entrances in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m. Guests are released from the area around 6 p.m. and can be the first to queue for the houses near the MIB Gear shop. A limited selection of Simpsons food and drink is available here after daytime guests have exited. Note that on select September weekends, this area is restricted to annual pass holders who have registered online for an exclusive pass-holder event, during which three houses are opened as early as 5:30 p.m.
• The New York holding area includes Finnegan’s Bar and Grill, which offers a full bar and table-service food, though reservations aren’t accepted and tables are virtually impossible to secure on event afternoons. Guests here are released around 5:30 p.m., giving them first crack at the most popular soundstage houses.
• A small overflow holding area is located in Hollywood near the Hello Kitty shop. There is no food or beverage available here, but you do get early access to the maze closest to the park entrance.
• Finally, Diagon Alley is not a holding area for HHN, and the Hogwarts Express train stops running in both directions as soon as USF’s closing time arrives.

Your first hour at the event is essential to making the most of the evening, and your initial plan of attack is determined by which location you start your night from:

• Springfield Holding Area: If you’re among the first inside the Springfield holding area, queue up for the first available house as soon as allowed. The exit of that house should lead directly to the entrance of the second house to open. Alternatively, if you’re late entering the holding area, the queue for the first house may already be posted at an hour or more. In that case, visit the second house first, saving the first for later in the early-entry period (the wait should diminish rapidly) or late in the evening. Guests should be released from the Springfield area around 6 p.m. and can choose to line up for the tent houses near MIB Gear or cross the park to the open soundstage houses.
• Finnegan’s Bar and Grill Holding Area: Enter the New York holding area between 4 and 5 p.m. (the earlier the better, especially if you want to get food or drink), and relax in the holding pen for your pick of the designated early-entry mazes. You’ll be walked to the soundstage queues around 5:30 p.m., with the scares starting up around 5:45 p.m. Once the general public is admitted through the front gates (as early as 6 p.m.), queues at the soundstage houses will swiftly build. See as many as you can until waits exceed 30 minutes, and then proceed to the houses in the back of the park.
• Hollywood Holding Area: Check into the holding area outside the Hello Kitty shop before park closing, and work your way through the plaza as close to Despicable Me Minion Mayhem as possible. Guests will be released shortly before the front gates open, when they can make a mad dash to the nearest maze entrance. By the time the first holding area guests exit the haunted house, the line behind them may be an hour or more, so you should head toward Springfield immediately afterward.
• General Admission: If you’re among the first folks through the gates when they open around 6 p.m., head straight to the open soundstage houses and jump in line if the wait is still 15 minutes or less. Otherwise, the majority of guests will mob the four houses in the soundstages near the front of the park. You should avoid the horde by heading in the opposite direction, toward Springfield, which should have processed the majority of guests who were already in the park by now. You can also continue through Springfield to the houses outside MIB Gear and in the Men in Black extended queue.

Halloween Horror Nights 30 Entertainment and Scare Zones

After the haunted houses, the new Halloween Nightmare Fuel high-energy dance shows, held inside the Fear Factor Live stadium, are the top draws. The first and last performances of the night are always the least crowded, but you shouldn’t have trouble finding a seat if you show up 15–20 minutes in advance of any showing.

Another HHN must-see is the Marathon of Mayhem: Carnage Factory seasonal lagoon show, which features footage of your favorite film fiends projected on massive water fountains. The 10-minute show, which is repeated hourly after sunset, lacks pyrotechnics, but the pulsating lasers and pumping soundtrack make it even more exciting than the standard lagoon show. You should be able to walk up shortly before the second or third performance; aim for the center of the second or third tier of the Central Park viewing area.

After the sun sets (around 7:30 p.m.) and the waits for the houses become unbearable, begin exploring the scare zones, which have evolved over the years from open-air haunted mazes (minus the conga line queues) into social media–friendly selfie opportunities. Just as much fun as getting scared yourself is finding a vantage point to stand still and see others getting spooked; this is some of the best people-watching you’ll ever find. Be on the lookout for staged scenes, in which actors attack planted “victims” within the crowd.

Here are this year’s Halloween Horror Nights Scare Zones:

• Crypt TV: Step inside Crypt TV, a dark universe of monsters that reside in the same reality—on your screen, in your pockets, and now in San Francisco.
• 30 Years 30 Fears: The monsters you’ve most dreaded from past Halloween Horror Nights have taken over the streets. They’re back and you’re history.
• Seek & Destroy: A ruthless alien cyber regime led by The Controller has taken over New York, turning humans into fuel. Succumb or be destroyed.
• Gorewood Forest: Sixteen years after the gory sacrifices of Terra Cruentus, the heartless Terra Queen is back. Evil is in her nature.
• Lights Camera Hacktion: Eddie’s Revenge: Get ready for the feel-bad movie of the year. Eddie Schmidt, Jack the Clown’s brother, is filming a horror movie, and the monsters are real.

By the midpoint of the evening, standby waits for all the houses will be substantial, and lines for the rides will be astronomical on Saturdays, but experiencing several top attractions should still be manageable using single-rider queues. Men in Black Alien Attack, Revenge of the Mummy, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, and Transformers: The Ride–3-D all have fairly efficient single-rider operations. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has a single-rider line, but it’s often as long as the standby queue. On off-peak nights, you may find ride queues shockingly short; just be aware that most rides shut down an hour or two before the event ends.

Halloween Horror Nights 30 Food and Drink

Even on a slow night, Horror Nights crowds can drive you to drink, and many of your fellow guests will doubtlessly be imbibing. Temporary bars serve beer and overpriced premixed cocktails on seemingly every spare square foot of sidewalk, but for serious in-park boozing, we prefer Finnegan’s Bar in New York or Duff Brewery in Springfield.

Better yet, if the park is open past 1 a.m., get out of Dodge for an hour or so and retreat to CityWalk. Most HHN passes include admission to CityWalk’s clubs, or you can grab a drink at Antojitos or NBC Sports Grill & Brew without a cover charge.

Listening to complaints from HHN guests that alcohol was easily obtainable but actual edibles could be harder to find, Universal has added food festival-style booths around the park in 2021 , serving exclusive gut-busters like twisted taters, pizza fries, and cannibal-themed barbecue.

Finally, the Halloween Tribute Store, located inside New York’s Macy’s façade, is open to both daytime and event guests throughout the fall.

The venue doubles as both a haunted shopping opportunity and seasonal confectionery, serving up ghoulish treats like beating gelatin hearts.

Ending Your Evening at Halloween Horror Nights 30

As the evening’s event approaches its final hour, wait times at the haunted mazes drop dramatically. If you are interested in either the  Halloween Nightmare Fuel  or  Marathon of Mayhem  show and didn’t catch it earlier, show up 15–20 minutes before the last performance on peak nights (or 5–10 minutes before showtime off-peak).

Otherwise, use the final hours to catch up on the houses you missed earlier. The last 30–60 minutes before park closing is the best time to hit the most popular houses. If you didn’t see the most popular mazes at the start of the night, step into line for one of them about 15–20 minutes before closing; you should be allowed to stay in the queue until you’re through, barring technical difficulties.

Using this touring plan, you should be able to experience most or all of the remaining mazes, and perhaps repeat some houses, without ever waiting longer than 30 minutes in line.

Finally, unless you leave significantly before closing time, you’re best off dawdling in the park or CityWalk on the way out. The parking garage exits will be at a standstill, so you might as well grab a seat outside and relax rather than breathing fumes in a traffic jam.

DIE-ning in Hell seating time is dependent on the tour start time chosen at time of booking. Here are the advantages and tradeoffs:

RIP Tour starting at 6:00PM / DIE-ning in Hell at 6:00PM Dinner starts at a more usual time, but it could rushed and the dining venue might be crowded. You may also not be in the first few rows of the Scaremony viewing area if you leave the dining venue late. However, you get an interrupted guided tour right after the Scaremony, and likely more free time to enjoy the park after the tour concludes.

RIP Tour starting at 7:30PM / DIE-ning in Hell at 9:20PM Your night will start off with the Scaremony show, which you may get a better view closer to the front if you arrive early and enter the park when it’s offered to you. However your tour will have a 70-90 minute interruption in the middle; it might feel like you have less time for VIP access. The timing for dinner may not be ideal for some people, being sandwiched between adrenaline rush.

Note: Please inform the park early if you have dietary restrictions

If you have any dietary requirements, you need to inform RWS via an online form after booking your tour. There is a Vegetarian menu available at DIE-ning in Hell, with the main course recreated with ‘Impossible’ Beef. Halal option is only available as a set meal from Mel’s Drive-In (takeaway and dine at Hollywood China Arcade). While the park states “the menu served is no pork no lard only”, do note that the venue is not Halal-certified.

Judgement Day Opening Scaremony show (Front Viewing Area)

All RIP Tour guests can access the viewing area closer to the front and enjoy views of Judgement Day Opening Scaremony and see all the action up-close.

After the show ends, you can depart the viewing area without rushing. Everyone else will have to wait for you to leave, before they sprint to their first haunted house.

Note: If there are clients invited by the park in attendance for the Opening Scaremony, the RIP Tour guests viewing area may be shifted back. RIP Tour guests will still be in front of two other sections: The Stay and Scream group, and the General Admission group further back.

VIP Access to Haunted Houses and Attractions

During the guided tour (approx. 3 hours), you will enjoy front-of-line VIP access via shortcuts that are closed to all other guests. This drastically reduces waiting time and walking, and you can quickly “complete” all the houses and zones, with time for more attractions before your tour ends.

During the tour, your RIP Guide will also explain the stories of all the haunted houses and scare zones, along with other cool facts about USS and its attractions.

Halloween Horror Nights Express Unlimited

As an RIP Tour Guest, you will get the Halloween Horror Nights Express Unlimited wristband, offering unlimited use of the Universal Express Lane. This privilege is not sold at the park, as HHN Express Passes are good for one use at each attraction*.

*All formats of HHN Express Passes are not valid for use at front row of Battlestar Galactica HUMAN vs CYLON, Treasure Hunters, and Waterworld

Private Meet and Greet with an HHN11 Icon

During your tour, you will visit the Pantages Hollywood Theater Foyer for a private Meet and Greet with an HHN11 Icon . Same like in 2022, RIP Tour guests will get a 6R printed photo as part of their package . Pick up your photo at The Dark Room retail store.

Apart from this venue, you can also meet two other icons at the Scaremony stage. Photos taken here are not eligible for the free 6R photo print as part of the RIP Tour package.

In your opinion do you feel that the price hike this year is justified compared to previous years RIP tour? It is quite a significant jump and the diening course has reduced in number as well. Also a little disappointed that there was no card promotions this year for the tour as it was more affordable then.

My opinion is that the RIP Tour’s pricing should have increased gradually over the years, as it started off offering much more value (e.g. time saving and convenience) than the cost of the package.

With the pause of 2 years and a smaller line-up for HHN10 meant they could only raise it modestly in 2022. Now with the “full line-up” at HHN11, I expected the hike to be more drastic, considering that the admission ticket also had a significant increase this year.

The park may have projected that RIP Tour sales would keep up despite a higher price and the lack of promotions (a mainstay since 2011). From what I have heard, this year it was sold out or close to full for the first few nights, but demand has since tapered down.

I’m jumping in. The RIDICULOUS PRICE HIKE doesn’t make any sense. I stopped buying RIP when they reached the 300 dollar mark and beyond. You can just as well “save time and convenience” by just buying an Express!!!

Thanks for the run down as always. I am doing my tour on Friday night. From your video, it seems like you only got to do each house once with your guide, but when I went 2019, my guide was able to take us to some houses multiple times.

Do you think that will still be possible this year? Or are they not doing that anymore and just suggesting you use Express?

Depending on the group’s preferences and remaining tour time, it is definitely possible to return to certain houses via VIP Access.

On the night of September 15 th , 2022, I got the privilege to be a part of a private RIP tour during Halloween Horror Nights 2022 in Orlando. During a private RIP tour, your group gets a tour guide to take you literally to the front of the line for the houses. Since Halloween Horror Nights runs until 2am each night this year, Kate, our tour guide, helped us have a wonderful evening until 2am. I will not be delineating everything we did. I just want to give you a basic understanding of these tours. Yes, these qualify as very expensive being a private tour after all.

The prices range from $279.99 to $399.99 per person depending on the night and if you choose the regular RIP tour or Private RIP Tour.

Both RIP and Private RIP include:

• Priority VIP access to each haunted house and participating attractions
• Reserved seating to live shows
• Unlimited Express Pass to all other attractions and rides
• Pre-tour reception in Cafe La Bamba
• Complimentary Valet Parking
• Commemorative R.I.P. Tour credential, lanyard and pin

With regular RIP tours you can only access houses once and you will be with other people. If you do the Private RIP tour you get to access houses as often as you would like and it’s only you and your party in that tour group.

These start with check-in around 5:30pm. You get to move from the check-in area at guest services to your buffet meal at 6:00pm. Based on how events unfolded, we got to view the opening scare-a-monies from above the masses then go to eat. Rain started to fall as we went to eat.

The buffet would not qualify as fine dining. Still, the food tasted a bit better than last year. Also, on the buffet, guests could get pizza fries and “Fried Zombie Brains” (spicy Korean style cauliflower) which are Halloween Horror Nights food items. Sadly, those items lacked flavor and solid preparation compared to versions served during the actual event.

The rain continued. In fact, it rained so hard that some minor flooding happened. When it rains, scare actors will not be out in scare zones. Also, since some of this time lightning strikes were happening, no one in my group expressed eagerness to get started, For record, Universal Orlando provides plastic ponchos for RIP tour guests when it rains. We eventually left Café la Bamba (around 7:10pm), where buffet happens, to walk to area for Descendants of Destruction and Bugs: Eaten Alive houses. We experienced those houses quickly, but the rain continued.

Based on that, the decision happened to go watch Halloween Nightmare Fuel Wildfire show for the 8pm show. Since this show features the same elements as last year, fire would be a key component of the show. For record, the show this year qualifies as offering more fire, more excitement, more athleticism, and more adult movements. In other words, I might not be old enough to watch this show. Despite that, the quality of this show merits the price of admission almost all itself. By the way, we got special reserved seats near the front as RIP tour guests. We also felt a bit dryer.

After that almost 30-minute show, we ventured back out in the rain. The rain lessened, however. We went to the Lombard’s RIP special bar area for a break and to plan our next moves. Our guide then took us to the front of line for The Weeknd house and Universal Monsters Legends Collide house. I found The Weeknd house enjoyable. Yet, most of my group did not. Also, I have heard many complaints about the Monsters house providing very little Dracula. In our trips through this house, that problem appears solved.

Working our way to the New York area next, we entered the Blumhouse house. Our tour guide saw a cast change happening so had us wait about 5 minutes before entering the house. This touch showed a good grasp of the event.

After this, we walked through “Sweet Revenge” scare zone. Though it was after 10pm at this point, the scare actors finally returned to the scare zones since weather allowed that now. As you might imagine, this night counts as a rainy evening.

We then took a break to enjoy the RIP tour area above Jimmy Fallow attraction. This allowed some to purchase Halloween Horror Nights food and beverage.

We started moving through houses again around 11:15pm. We knocked out the other five houses in a little over an hour. At around 12:30pm, several of our group decided to call it a night. The rest of us enjoyed a few scare zones. Then, we went back to Café la Bamba for some complimentary soft drinks and bottled water. Following that, the remaining people with our guide easily went through five more houses. Yes, we had been through these before. Still with a guide on a private RIP tour, you can do whatever you want in terms of number of houses.

Fun appeared to be had by all this evening. For a way to maximize your Halloween Horror Nights experience, a private RIP tour works very well. Of course, you will need to spend some significant money. Thank you for reading. I will be spending several more days at Halloween Horror Nights so look for more blogs about the event soon.

When purchasing extras for Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida , there are many upgrades to consider – and we’re going to walk through all of the different options to make sure you get the most out of your experience!

But before we get started, there’s a very important point that you should know first: Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event  (sometimes referred to as a hard-ticket event), which means, one way or another, that you have to pay for separate admission to get in. The event is not included with regular admission to Universal Orlando’s theme parks, like, say, Mardi Gras or the holiday festivities .

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 admission – Express Passes

Just like regular Universal Express Passes , Halloween Horror Nights Express Passes enable you to skip the standby queue and hop in a shorter line, thereby allowing you to experience the various haunted houses in an expedited fashion (just once per haunt). Although the regular, daytime tickets nearly always allow you to get into an attraction in only a fraction of the time, the HHN-specific passes can sometimes, on peak nights, only cut off half of the posted wait – which, yes, means you will still spend a fair amount of time standing in line. But there are two important things to keep in mind in this regard: (1) you’ll be able to get more value out of your Express Pass on less-crowded dates (though, then again, you might not need it as much to begin with), and (2) when you consider that the houses on those peak nights can get up to a three-hour wait, you’re still getting out ahead with Express access.

Rounding out your HHN Express Pass decision-making, you should be aware that it also works on each of the rides that are open during the event as well as the mazes (again, just once per attraction), but – super important  – it is separate from the usual, daytime express pass tickets, which means that your free Express access from staying at one of the Universal Orlando Resort hotels or from your annual pass won’t be valid here.

HHN Express Passes vary in price, ranging from $129.99, plus tax, per person to $239.99, plus tax, per person. Unfortunately, there are no discounts for Florida residents, annual passholders, or anyone else.

Unlimited Halloween Horror Nights Express Passes – currently not available for 2024

In 2019, Universal tested out offering  unlimited versions of its Horror Nights Express Passes – which means that, just as with the daytime version of Unlimited Express, it would allow users to hop into the shorter line for each haunted house and ride as many times as they would like. There were several stipulations to this experimentation, however: only an  extremely limited number of these tickets were offered; they were only for sale at the front gate or in the park; they weren’t available every single event night; and, finally, the price seemed to fluctuate.

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 Express Pass tips

Whether or not you’re considering Express Passes for Halloween Horror Nights 2024, you need to read these tips.

1. Express Passes for HHN 2024 will sell out on peak nights

If you know you’re going any night that Express Passes are $160 or more, we recommend that you buy them as soon as possible, because they will likely sell out (or, at the very least, ramp up in price) – sometimes, many days in advance. (It’s worth mentioning here that guests can purchase Express separately, so don’t worry if you haven’t yet figured out what general-admission ticket you’re getting.)

2. Express Passes might (and usually do) go up in price the closer we get to the event

This is because Universal’s projections for certain dates change as more and more tickets are purchased, which means nights that might have seemed slower even just a few weeks ago are suddenly looking busier and busier. So, if you have your dates locked in right away at the start of the Horror Nights “pre-season,” when Universal first puts the various passes up for sale, you’d do well to buy them right away. (In 2018, for example, two new, more expensive pricing tiers were added to the roster due to all the increases [and added-on dates]!)

3. The unlimited Express access included with staying at select Universal Orlando Resort hotels does not cover HHN (or any other separately-ticketed event)

Yes, we’ve already pointed this out, but it’s worth repeating it. It doesn’t matter if you purchase a Halloween Horror Nights vacation package, book the hotel on its own, or stroll in an hour before the event starts – your Universal hotel Express benefit does not work at Halloween Horror Nights. Consider yourself (doubly) warned.

4. Express Passes can, on certain nights, only be expected to reduce your wait time by half of the posted standby time

Here we go, repeating ourselves yet again, but we’re doing so because we really want to make sure your expectations are calibrated correctly. On peak nights, the popular houses often have wait times of over two or three hours – so, even with an Express Pass, you may still have to wait an hour (or more). This is yet another reason to skip peak nights altogether, which we can’t stress enough!

We do want to mention that the speediness of HHN Express access tends to change year-to-year and house-to-house – it is very dependent upon the popularity of the maze and the team members working it.

5. It’s possible to get a discount on Express Passes – sort of

If a certain date’s Express Passes don’t sell out, Universal  may offer the remainder of its inventory at a discount (usually 50% off) later on that night (typically around 10:00 or 11:00 pm). The catch here is that some Horror Nights evenings only run until 2:00 am, so you’ll only be getting some three or four hours’ worth of use out of them – and if a night isn’t busy enough to move all of its Express Passes, it’s debatable whether it’s busy enough to warrant the use of Express in the first place. We just mention this here in terms of completeness.

Halloween Horror Nights Multi-Night Tickets

While we wait for 2024’s haunt, please enjoy the following information regarding 2023’s Halloween Horror Nights.

For some thrill-seekers, one night of fear isn’t nearly enough. Universal Orlando Resort offers varying levels of multi-night admission for those ready to come face-to-face with terror again and again. 

The Rush of Fear Pass allows access to the first 18 event nights, which include: September 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24. Pricing begins at $179.99.

The Halloween Horror Nights Frequent Fear Pass gives access to every Sunday through Thursday event night and the first weekend of Halloween Horror Nights. Prices for this pass start from $229.99. 

The Halloween Horror Nights Frequent Fear Plus Pass, beginning at $269.99, includes every Sunday through Friday event, as well as the first and last Saturday event evenings. 

The Halloween Horror Nights Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass is the last tier for these multi-night tickets. Not only does it include all 48 nights of horror, but those ready to embrace the chills and thrills with this pass will also receive free regular parking after 5 PM on all event evenings. Pricing for the Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass begins at $374.99.  

Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass access can also be added to multi-night admission at an additional charge.

Scream Early Ticket

Can’t wait to dive into this realm of terror and fright? Universal Orlando Resort offers a Scream Early Ticket, where those eager to embrace the fear can enjoy the park from 3-5 PM and then wait in the Stay & Scream area once Halloween Horror Nights officially begins for the evening. Pricing for this ticket is $40.00 before tax, and Halloween Horror Nights admission is required. 

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 admission – add-on experiences

Nearly every single year at Halloween Horror Nights, Universal experiments with additional add-on experiences, some of which end up returning and becoming the newest horror mainstays and some of which end up becoming fleeting – but nonetheless intriguing – one-offs. Each of these items is an upcharge, meaning that you’ll have to pay extra for the experience, and, as such, you’ll have to carefully consider whether the expense – and the time it takes away from your touring of the event – is worth it for you and your party.

With that warning out of the way, we should also point out that some of these premium items are some of the most fun a number of attendees have at HHN. It really does come down to personal preference.

Taste of Terror

Sink your fangs into a preview of what’s on the menu for the upcoming HHN 2023 season. Occurring on select evenings, Taste of Terror offers all you care to enjoy tasting portions of select food and beverage items, Halloween Horror Nights Coca-Cola Freestyle cup (separate fee applies to activate), and one digital download from the event. Those 21 and up also can partake in beverages at the hosted bar and receive a souvenir Halloween Horror Nights light-up cup. Taste of Terror is $135.99 (plus tax), and theme park admission is required.

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 tours

Halloween Horror Nights offers up several different tours to allow horror aficionados to get the best bang for their annual-event buck – or, even more intriguingly, to get an in-depth look at what it takes to make an HHN haunted house.

RIP Tours provide you with a blood-red-carpet journey through a multitude of horrors more ghastly than you can imagine, without having to face your worst nightmare: waiting in line. All RIP Tours provide you with immediate VIP entry to the haunted houses and select regular park attractions. 

Orlando Informer recommends the RIP Tours for guests who want to experience the best of Halloween Horror Nights and who do not want to have to worry about planning.

Private RIP Tour

The chilling choice for the true connoisseur of carnage and chaos! You and your party of up to nine guests will take part in a guided walking tour of a single Horror Nights event night. As the party consists of just your compatriots, the choice is yours as to how to spend your evening; your RIP guide can tailor the tour to the interests of your party to include not only the haunted houses and shows, but the regular park attractions, as well.

Private RIP Tours can depart nightly as early as 5:30 pm, with a 30-minute break midway through. Universal has a strict policy of not listing any pricing whatsoever for these – instead, it strongly encourages guests to call its VIP Tours number at 866-346-9350 to discuss cost and reservations. (Just be aware that you must already have HHN admission before you can start your tour.)

Private RIP Tours include the following:

• VIP entrance to Universal Studios Florida
• Unlimited immediate VIP entry to all haunted houses while with your RIP guide
• Customizable itinerary
• Reserved seating at select shows
• Unlimited Express access to participating regular park attractions with your RIP Tour credential following the tour (park hours permitting)

Non-private RIP Tour

Indulge in an evening of unbridled terror! You and your party, along with other RIP Tour guests, will be combined together and take part in a structured, guided walking tour of one Halloween Horror Nights event night. During the Non-Private RIP Tour, you will experience all of the haunted houses (one time each) and have reserved seating for the live stage show.

Non-private RIP Tours offer various times for check-in that are determined upon booking. This tour can last up to four hours with combined groups consisting of no more than twelve guests per RIP guide. Please note that you can only have six people in your individual party. Should you have seven or more guests in your party, you will need to book a private RIP tour. Prices start at $259.99 per person, plus tax and event admission, but they are wildly dependent upon date and availability.

Non-Private RIP Tours include the following:

• One-time immediate VIP entry to all haunted houses while with your RIP guide

Non-Private-RIP-Tour guest requests to be in the same party as other Non-Private RIP Tour attendees cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore, it should be noted that the tour ends once all of its inclusions (all haunted houses and stage shows) have been met.

Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour (daytime)

Pierce the veil and get a lights-on, inside look at Halloween Horror Nights. You and your party, along with other Unmasking the Horror guests, will be combined together to take part in a guided, informational walking tour providing an overview of this year’s event as well as a lights-on walk-through of several haunted houses, with the opportunity to take photos in select rooms. Along the way, you’ll learn how Universal’s Art and Design team takes some of the world’s most popular movie, television, and videogame properties and turns them into immersive haunted houses, along with how they create original haunts that can only be seen at Halloween Horror Nights each year.

Guests can choose a three- or six-house Behind the Screams Tour, with the former lasting up to two-and-a-half hours and the latter up to five. Groups consist of 12 attendees, with each member receiving a “unique HHN token.” Prices start at $99.99 for the three-house variation and at $179.99 for the six-hour configuration, plus tax – but please note that, unlike with the various RIP Tours, Horror Nights admission is  not also required. You  must reserve your spot in advance, however, with departure times starting as early as 8:30 am. Behind the Screams outings are typically available on every single event date.

And here’s one final important bullet point to keep in mind: due to the intensely graphic nature and lights-on viewing within the haunted houses, these are not recommended for children under the age of 13.

Halloween Horror Nights 33 Dates Confirmed, Starts 30th August, 2024 [Update]

Confirmed dates and ticket prices can be found below (under “update”) The dates for Halloween Horror Nights 33 (HHN 33)  at  Universal Studios Florida  have emerged online.

According to an X post by the The RIP Tour: Halloween Horror Nights Podcast (@RipTourPodcast), HHN 33 at Universal Studios Florida will take place from 30th August, 2024 through 3rd November, 2024.

This year’s spooktacular will feature 10 haunted houses, 5 scare zones, and live entertainment, according to the above screenshot.

Universal Orlando has confirmed that HHN 33 at Universal Studios Florida will take place from the 30th August, 2024 through 3rd November, 2024. Listed below are all the dates for this year’s event:

August – 30th, 31st

September – 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th

October – 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 30th, 31st

November – 1st, 2nd, 3rd
