Purple Bamboo Garden

Purple Bamboo Garden is situated at 45, Baishiqiao Lu and near the west of the Capital Gymnasium in Haidian District. In ancient times, it was a low-lying wetland. In the era of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the Tonghui River, excavated by Guo Shoujing (a mathematician and astronomer), flowed through this land. During the days of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Zizhuyuan temple was built on the north coast of the lake, and later, the statue of Avalokitesvara was worshipped in the temple under the order of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). After 1949, it was renovated and opened to public under the name of Zizhuyuan Park (Purple Bamboo Garden).  

Construction of Purple Bamboo Garden

The garden covers an area of 473,500 square meters (117 acres), including three lakes and two small islands. The three lakes, filled with lotus blossoms, occupy one third of the area. The two small islands are surrounded by the lakes and are connected by an arch bridge. Scattered corridors and pavilions create many beautiful scenic spots throughout the Park. In the north of the park lies the enchanting serenity of Yunshi Garden, recently designed in a unique South River style. A hexagonal pavilion, an elaborate courtyard and bamboos are blended into the picturesque disorder of this untamed garden, harmonizing with the gentle slope and man-made hills created within this garden. You can also discover a river, a bridge, a lotus pond and all kinds of stones in Yunshi Garden, evoking an imaginative, fairytale landscape. In the west of the garden, there is a cockloft named Baoen Lou and a fishing hole, made up with purple bamboos. In the south of the Garden, you can find a hill house and a Children's Eden. In the middle of the garden, you can see two small islets, Blue Lotus Islet and Moon Islet. An elegant and unique double-storey waterside pavilion stands beside Moon Island, offering the perfect place to look out and admire the moon. The most beautiful of the scenic spots is Bayixuan Pavilion, on the south side of the Blue Lotus Islet. It has an area of approximately 2,500 square meters (0.62 acres). With a lotus pond in front and ten thousand of green bamboos behind, Bayixuan Pavilion shows ingenuity in conception and design. It is interdependent of Zhuyunshi Garden and Blue Lotus Platform. The Zhuyunshi Garden are engraved with paintings and poems reflecting wind, rain, frost and snow, appreciating the variety of bamboo scenes as they change with the seasons. Lotus Ferry is another beautiful landscape within the garden. Here, the fertile soil and suitable water temperatures favors the growth of water lilies, and the lush lotuses are a truly magnificent sight to see. In summer, visitors can boat on the lake to make the most of this idyllic beauty.  

Bamboo Scenery

Constructed around canals and large lakes, it is renowned for its bamboo scenery. Entering the garden, you will find yourself in a bamboo world. The garden has more than 50 species of bamboos on display. Among the diverse bamboo stock, such as mottled bamboos, purple bamboos, fishpole bamboos, the most common by far is the purple bamboo. Every year, people flock to the Bamboo Culture Festival, held from April to June. Most things in the garden are decorated with bamboo, including the floor, pavilion, table, chair and the bridge. You can find the spice of the Dong people (a minority in China) resting on the Wind and Rain Bridge. You will gain a better understanding about Chinese bamboo culture through the many kinds of bamboo buildings found here, and may even come across some of the many happily enjoy the art of bamboo dancing.  

How to get to Purple Bamboo Garden

The Sea of Bamboo Park

This is the most popular attraction in Yixing, and it is worth a drive out from Shanghai and other big cities. It is called the "Sea of Bamboo" because of the large area of the bamboo groves. It is said to be the biggest bamboo forest in China, and for many tourists who go, it is their favorite natural spot in China.

Xingzhuang Village is situated there, and it can be your starting point for exploration and sightseeing. The area has winding roads and gurgling streams. If you take a bird's-eye view, green waves dance with the wind, rising and falling. When the wind blows, you can hear the unusual creaking sound of the wind through the bamboo leaves.

• Special distinction: People say it is the best bamboo grove in eastern China. Clean and unpolluted.
• Area: 120 square kilometers (46 square miles)
• Location: It is 50 kilometers (about 31 miles) southwest of Yixing. Yixing is a part of Wuxi in Jiangsu Province. It is only about 110 kilometers (70 miles) from the outskirts of Shanghai.
• Activities: hiking, sightseeing, recreation, luxury resort
• Suitable for visitors who want a change to clean air and nature. It is a good hiking area, and the countryside food and tea is good.

Sea of Bamboo Park Highlights

The Sea of Bamboo consists of the gate and service area, the Jinghu area, the Jade Promenade Area, the Waterfall Area, the bamboo groves themselves, an ancient temple, and tea plantations.

• The mountain in the park is the main sightseeing vantage point to see the bamboo sea scenery and the rippling waves of bamboo. It is a striking phenomenon when first seen. The hike to the top is good.
• Cable car ride: Instead of hiking to the top, you can take the cable car for which there is a separate charge. It takes you half way to the top, then you have to hike up.
• Fresh air: The bamboo itself mustF purify the air since it is unusually fresh.
• Uncrowded on weekdays: Crowding in Chinese parks is the norm, but during the weekdays, it is uncrowded.
• Tea farms: The tea farms inside are also beautiful.

Tourist Essentials and Tips

• Ticket: For entrance adult ticket, 80元 (RMB) or 12.30 USD; for children 1.1 meters to 1.4 meters, 55元.
• Opening Time: 8 am to 4:30 pm in winter; 8 am to 5:30 pm other times.
• To avoid the crowds: Avoid weekends and holidays. Hiking and sightseeing in the area is best done when it is quiet.
• Recommended duration: a few hours or days depending on what you want to do in the park. The hotels and private guest houses make an extended stay inviting.
• Luxury hotel: About 200 meters from the gate of the park, there is a luxury hotel with good food that can be your base for exploring the area.

Transport to Yixing and the Sea of Bamboo

Flight: The Shuofang Airport is a domestic airport in Wuxi.

Bus from Wuxi to Yixing: Though Yixing is a part of the metropolitan area of Wuxi, it is actually far from it on the outskirts. A bus from Wuxi to the Yixing metro area costs 23 RMB and takes 90 minutes.

Drive to the Sea of Bamboo from Shanghai: It is under 3 hours by road from Shanghai.

Local tourist bus: You can take Tourist Bus 1 from Yixing Bus Station for 7 RMB (a little more than 1 USD).

Local sightseeing buses in park: In the Sea of Bamboo Park, the sightseeing bus ticket is 5 RMB.

• In Yixing, the Ceramics Museum is an option.

Our Logo & Its Meaning

Our company’s logo created by our founder in person with the image of “bamboo” (Chinese name: 竹). Bamboo has the title of “gentleman” among other plants. Famous Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet Bai Juyi summarized the merits of bamboo according to its characteristics: its deep root denotes resoluteness, straight stem represents honorability, its interior modesty and its clean exterior exemplifies chastity. Our whole team always firmly believe in the BAMBOO SPIRIT.

When you take a look at our logo, you may have a feeling that we are a united team under the leadership of our company (straight bamboo on the right) - growing in strength and being more professional year after year (green leaves on the left).
