Worst place i stayed at”

Worst value for money i ever spent. Shonalanga's website is very misleading. False advertising. 1. Rooms were not ready on arrival 2. No air-conditioner 3. Ceiling fans were not the safest 4. The rooms had a very dusty smell 5. Bed Linen needs replacing. They looked brownish/ yellowish/dirty 6. Pots & Pans were rusty 7. Cutlery was rusty & broken 8. TV reception was poor 9. Taps were not secured in the bathroom. They were loose. Water sprays out of the bathroom taps like a shower 10. Shower floor needs a good clean 11. One unit had a shower curtain which is unhygienic 12. Place is in need of urgent maintenance 13. The pool was not clean and could not be used in the evenings 14. Distribution board is a shocker. Fire waiting to happen 15. Property does not have a driveway gate. Walk in/out. Drive in/out. No security on site especially without a locked 16. entrance gate. 17. In het centrum van St Lucia, vlakbij de supermarkt ligt Shonalanga Lodge. Gedateerde kamers die in prima staat zijn, maar wel hun gebreken hebben. Bijvoorbeeld een ventilator die alleen op standje maximaal kan en een douchestraal waar alleen een mier genoegen mee zou nemen. Er zijn ruime braai gelegenheden, een zwembad (zonder ligbedden) en een WiFi spot die overigens niet in de kamer werkt. In de kamer zijn overigens een klein keukentje met koelkast aanwezig. Tip: Werk aan een spontanere ontvangst.

Lake St Lucia owns a sense of place like no other – one of the most abundant, naturally-endowed and beautiful pieces of real estate on earth. If the iSimangaliso Wetland Park is a miracle (which ‘iSimangaliso’ translates to from the Zulu) then the Lake is the heart that sustains that miracle. It is the focal point of the UNESCO World Heritage Listing and has been a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance since 1986. It is 80km long and 23km at its widest point.

Aside from the lake and dune ecosystems, the park protects a marine zone of warm tropical seas, coral reefs and endless sandy beaches; the papyrus and reed wetland of the umkhuze swamps, on the north of the lake; and, on the western shore, dry savannah and thornveld. any one of these would justify conservation, but their confluence around the lake st lucia makes this a world-class wilderness..

More than 50% of all water birds in KwaZulu-Natal feed, roost and nest in this Estuary. Of the 155 fish species that have been recorded in the Lake St Lucia estuarine system, 71 species use Lake St Lucia as a nursery area – and at least 24 of these are important in marine line fisheries. More than 2 180 species of flowering plants have been documented here and it is home to many species of antelope such as waterbuck, reedbuck, kudu, nyala, impala and duiker.

Was okay, kon beter wees.

Eenheid het geen klein stoof gehad vir "self catering" nie. Ek moes vir lepels vra en die borde was vuil onder in die kas. Die drein was ook verstop, veral wanneer mens stort, dam die water op. Unit had no small stove for "self catering". I had to ask for spoons and the plates were dirty in the bottom of the cupboard. The WiFi is available, only in one place near the pool. This is what I found out on the second day from another lady who works there.

Not pleasant at all.

Not one room at all was right above the washing area and all the smells were drawn into the room by the shower. Traveled back for 12 hours and couldn't sleep.

Our accommodation was in the basic room with a bathroom, very small "kitchenette" with kettle, small fridge, microwave and basic cutlery, TV and a fan. The room is clean and tidy and spacious enough for your luggage for a weekend. The staff is friendly and nimble. The parking area is just enough for your vehicle, if you bring a trailer or boat you may have to park outside. It was very convenient to be able to walk to all the eateries and shops as there is not always parking in town on weekends. We were very satisfied and would definitely recommend them.

Not what we expected based on what was advertised.

On the website we looked at and based on which we made our decision, the photos and the description indicated that it was a one bedroom unit with a kitchen. However, it is a single apartment with kitchen facilities tucked into the corner - very limited space to work with. I brought the fact up on Wednesday, under the auspices of Shonalanga's reception and the website's customer service. The original photos and description indicated it was a one bedroom unit with a kitchen and it was not. These are not all the photos as advertised. In general, the place was clean, but the fridge's freezer compartment was frozen over and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. There was also leftover barbecue meat in the fridge from previous guests. We decided to leave a day early.

Clean and efficient staff, but not recommended for a quiet restful holiday experience.

We arrived on the Thursday and left on the following Tuesday, every night from about 12 am and later there were cars/motorbikes arriving/leaving from the lodge. People having parties in the street, people shouting at each other and using foul language while reversing out of the lodge property, which has made us worry about drunk people crashing into our car.

Nie wat ons verwag het nie.

Oond verwaarloos met sommige van die liggies wat nie werk nie, een van ons eenhede se oond het opgeblaas terwyl ons daar was. Algemene gevoel is dat jy gegril het om items te gebruik. Yskas in een van die eenhede het geen rakkies in die kant gehad nie. Badkamers: Soos met die kombuis het die storte redelik vuil gevoel. Een van die eenhede se badkamer het 'n vreeslike reuk gehad wat van buite gekom het ons het dit rapporteer hul het daarna gekyk maar die reuk het gebly. Handdoeke was voorsien, maar was goed uitgewas en was weer eens onpare, handdoeke wat gewas was het nie noodwendig terug na die eenheid gekom nie en ons moes weer vra vir dit. TV kamer: Geen dakwaaier of lugversorging nie. TV word geadverteer met 8 kanale dit het selde gewerk en daar was gereeld net 2 kanale om na te kyk en beide TVs het telkemale baie slegte sein gehad. Sal beter wees as jul adverteer met geen TV. Parkering: Beperk tot first come first serve wat veroorsaak het dat gaste voor die eenhede se vensters parkeer en ander motors toe parkeer. Ons het gaste gehad wat direk voor ons kamer parkeer het en 3 uur die oggend opgestaan het en gepak het met 'n groot geraas, natuurlik my 3 jarige dogtertjie wakker gemaak. Sekuriteit: Daar is geen sekuriteit nie, eenhede is direk op straat en motors dus ook. Swem area: Baie lekker. Braai area: Kan doen met 'n ekstra paar braaiers moes area gereeld deel met groepe wat die nomad toere doen. Ons het ook gaan op lees oor ander mense se ervarings op verskeie websites en my punte bo is al voorheen telkemale genoem in die verlede. Dit was ook baie komies dat daar net feedback gegee word op positiewe punte en niks waar besoekers kla nie. Ek dink die lodge kan soveel meer wees as iemand net weer wil aandag gee aan die klein goedjies. My persoonlike opinie is dat die lodge genoeg inkomste kry deur die nomad toere wat kom en gaan en nie rêrig die eenhede moet gebruik soos ons nie en dus nie rêrig omgee oor die algehele toestand van die plek nie. Ons het al voorheen in St. Lucia gebly en my gevoel is net dat Shonalanga Lodge nie goedkoop is nie en 'n mens dus 'n sekere gehalte kan verwag. Yskas in een van die eenhede het geen rakkies in die kant gehad nie.

Not what we expected.

We have booked two units, will give me feedback on all areas of the units: Kitchen: Dishes were generally not washed clean and we found a dirty pan still in the oven, items like the grater still have old cheese contained and the hand beater was rusted. Most of the cutlery was mismatched and not all the basic items were available. Furnace neglected with some of the lights not working, one of our units furnace blew up while we were there. Common feeling is that you grilled to use items. Refrigerator in one of the units had no shelves in the side. Bathrooms: As with the kitchen, the showers felt quite dirty. One of the units bathroom had a terrible smell coming from outside we reported it they looked into it but the smell remained. Towels were provided but were laundered well and again were mismatched, towels that were washed did not necessarily come back to the unit and we had to ask for them again. TV room: No ceiling fan or air conditioning. TV is advertised with 8 channels it rarely worked and there were often only 2 channels to watch and both TVs had very poor signal at times. Would be better if you advertise with no TV. Parking: Limited to first come first serve which has caused guests to park in front of the units' windows and other cars to park there. We had guests park directly in front of our room and get up and pack at 3 in the morning with a lot of noise, obviously waking up my 3 year old daughter. Security: There is no security, units are directly on the street and so are cars. Swimming area: Very nice. Braai area: Could do with an extra couple of braais, had to share area often with groups doing the nomad tours. We also went on to read about other people's experiences on various websites and my points above have been mentioned numerous times in the past. It was also very comical that feedback is only given on positive points and nothing where visitors complain. I think the lodge can be so much more if someone just pays attention to the little things again. My personal opinion is that the lodge gets enough income from the nomad tours that come and go and don't really have to use the units like we do and therefore don't really care about the overall condition of the place. We have been in St. Lucia and my feeling is that Shonalanga Lodge is not cheap and one can therefore expect a certain quality. Refrigerator in one of the units had no shelves in the side.

Ek wil u weerens bedank dat u die baie belanrike punte onder ons aandag gebring het en sal beslis aandag daaraan gee om die verblyf by ons baie aangename eenhede in St Lucia nog geriefliker te maak. Great place!

Had a lovely stay. Place was clean, staff were friendly. Only issues were the kitchen and the shower. Kitchen wasn't fully equipped as stated, for example 1 steak knife, no pans, no cheese grater. The shower head needs replacing but other than that - superb accommodation! Would recommend to any friend or family.

We did not have the feeling that we would stay any longer than what we booked for, the place is sadly falling behind the competition.

Quite a few things wrong. Microwave turntable not turning, kettle burning out as the auto-off switch failed, refrigerator did not chill, cupboards have a very strong mouldy smell, the dressing area is half-painted, the couch looks as if it has not been cleaned in years. The staff was however very helpful to exchange the kettle and the refrigerator (which did not fit into the area provided for it). The WiFi is free but only available under the lapa by the pool so if you do not find a seat you cannot connect. The choice of TV channels is very limited. We only stayed in the unit as long as we absolutely had to - sleeping only.

Very good accommodation. Lots of movement from visitors on tour early in the morning. So you can't sleep late. Security isn't good since there is no gate between main road and premisies for access control and windows dont' have burglar bars.

We went to St Lucia Villa Mia 5 to recover after operation. Absolutely beautiful place. Our own private braai area right at pool. Due to my medical condition we could not go out but our hosts arranged food delivery for us from nearly all the restaurants in St Lucia. One night there was guests that were intoxicated and loud. We informed our hosts who in return got the caretaker at the property in minutes and he resolved the issue. Will definitely book again. Thanks to the workers at Villa Mia that were always willing to run and get us something we needed in town. It felt like home and we will always remember our trip. Next time we will definitely visit all the attractions that St Lucia has to offer.

Nice stay in st lucia, verified traveller, noisy, dingy and disappointing, not for me.... it's a motel, nice hotel and our room had a nice little patio, dirty balcony and cockroach, shower was dirty,, veronica khensani, disappointed, stay at shonalanga lodge, pedro agrela, very good price quality, most popular destinations.
