We loved Gizzae at the Chicago Music Awards, & we get to jam with them again at the Taste of Polonia Festival.

Working and playing with such a vast array of musical styles and talents has enabled Gizzae to create a unique blend of Roots Reggae.

Gizzae’s brand of reggae is always backed with strong guitar solos and riffing, warm pads and ambient vibes from the dual keyboardists.

Some songs are heavily influenced by Soca and Calypso and other genres such as jazz and even rock. Just when you think you’ve heard everything Gizzae has to offer, the band instinctively and seamlessly transitions into blues reggae to satisfy the keyboard and guitar solo fans.

Formed in 1992 after the breakup of Dallol (Ziggy Marley’s Touring Band) and Moja Nya (New York), Gizzae soon became a fan favorite in the Chicago and Midwest reggae scene. A Sunday night staple at the fledgling Wild Hare, fans started to come out to hear this new reggae band in force and 19 years later, they still rock the house.

Statesboro's Gazzie White earns a golden ticket to Hollywood to compete on American Idol.

Statesboro High School is excited to see one of its own on American Idol. And they aren't alone.

The school was quick to share the good news on Facebook after Gazzie White posted photos from her audition and let the cat out of the bag that she's headed to Hollywood as a contestant on American Idol.

Gazzie White is a Statesboro native who has forged her own path beyond the traditional boundaries of music. Her childhood pastime has now become a passion.

White began singing at 4 years old, when she sang at the celebration of her pastor’s anniversary at church. 

“My mom told me I’ve been singing since that day,” she said. 

White is known for her powerful voice and her passion for inspiring people. She loves singing Christian and gospel music especially, and says it brings her heart joy to worship.

White was honored to be a part of the show, “American Idol,” in 2018, where she was selected out of 250,000 singers to receive a golden ticket to Hollywood. She finished in the top 70.

“Song of Majesty,” White’s debut single, landed on the Billboard Digital Gospel Sales Charts in 2019. 

White is currently a worship leader at Branch Church, alongside her husband, Deven White. The couple are the proud parents of a miracle baby, Zoi Amoura. After a battle with infertility, the couple was blessed with their child, and White continues to be an encouragement for women experiencing infertility and battling endometriosis. 

Freedom — it comes with singing, says White. 

“When I sing and perform, I don’t put limits on myself. I have fun and truly allow people to see Gazzie,” she said.

She also loves to perform with other people. 

“I love the experience in lending a helping hand through the power of music. To see that I’ve helped encourage or uplift others through song is always a joy,” she said. 

White says her husband and her mother have both really encouraged her on her musical journey, but she credits her mom with being the first to do so and really believe in her.

“Deven has believed in and pushed me since the day we met. I’m so glad to have him by my side,” she added.

She says she is inspired by Beyonce. “I love her. From singing to performing, Beyonce is amazing. She’s definitely an inspiration to me,” she said. 

She’s also inspired by her relationship with God. 

“He’s blessed me with such a beautiful gift and I’ve seen how it’s already helped so many thus far. I just pray that he continues to use me. I’m always ready and willing,” she said. 

After having her daughter, White says she took some time off to heal and spend uninterrupted time with her family. She’s looking forward to getting back on the stage and reconnecting with the community.

“It’ll be a powerful performance. This will be the biggest performance I’ve had since I gave birth to my daughter, so it’s almost like a reintroduction. I hope it’s one that Statesboro will never forget. I’m still choosing songs. I have a few picked out already. I can’t wait for everyone to hear them at the show,” she said.

As for being a part of the ONE Series, White says she is humbled.

“I’ve attended previous ONE performances, and to be able to share the stage with some of Statesboro’s most elite performers is truly an experience I’ll never forget,” she said. “If you haven’t already, I encourage you to get your ticket for the show. This will be a night to remember.”

Codium announces Codiumate, a new AI agent that seeks to be Devin for enterprise software development

One of the most well-read VentureBeat articles in recent weeks has been our coverage of Devin , an AI “software engineer” from startup Cognition that can autonomously write code, even full applications, given natural language instructions from a user.

It makes sense, as this type of capability would be hugely helpful for software developers, managers, and those who employ them. Already, leading AI influencers such as University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business professor Ethan Mollick have posted examples of Devin effectively coding together entire websites for them.

But for enterprises looking to maintain existing codebases and apps, and push updates to their software for employees or customers in high-security, highly regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, law, government, and telecommunications — the idea of turning loose an AI software engineer all on its own to do these tasks may be slightly less appealing.

Another new Israeli startup, Codium AI , is trying to make it possible for enterprises to reap the benefits of autonomous AI coding while also still retaining human oversight and compliance with regulations and existing software.

The AI Impact Tour – Atlanta

Today, the company announced “Codiumate,” a new AI agent described as “semi-autonomous.” It works alongside a human software developer or team. It takes any existing code snippets a human developer highlights in their environment and automatically drafts step-by-step development plans based on it, writes code according to the plan, identifies duplicate code, drafts documentation for the code so that developers can reference it going forward, and suggests tests to ensure the code works properly before it is deployed for real in a live, production environment.

In fact, writing code is just “20 to 30 percent of what developers do,” said Codium co-founder and CEO Itamar Friedman in a video call interview with VentureBeat, citing surveys such as one from The New Stack and Tidelift on how engineers spend their time. “All the rest is meant to define what we do with our code, what we want to do with it, and check that it actually happened. That’s what we’re focused on at Codium AI.”

How Codiumate works alongside and with developers

Friedman demoed the tool for me live during our call, showing how the user can drag their mouse cursor to highlight multiple code blocks in their development environment and then instruct Codiumate to generate a plan for how they want to use that code.

The agent presents the plan to the human user for review, which the human developer can then edit and adjust at will — any portion of it.

Once a user is happy with the plan, the human developer user can click a button labeled “start implementing the plan,” and the Codiumate AI Agent will begin coding it for them, though it will occasionally stop to ask the human user if what it is doing is correct, and allow time for the human user to edit the code or fix any issues as they see fit. It may also prompt the human developer to complete code or write code on their side in order for it to continue. You can see a prerecorded demo uploaded by Codium to YouTube embedded above.

In this way, Codium hopes that Codiumate will aid developers in their workflow, speeding up all the manual typing they would otherwise have to do, doing the “heavy lifting” and mechanical coding work, while enabling the developer to act more as a hands-on product manager overseeing the process and course correcting it as necessary, almost as though it is a junior developer or new hire to the team.

The technology powering the Codiumate agent on the backend is “best of breed” OpenAI models, according to Friedman. The company is also experimenting with Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini. It also offers its own large language model (LLM) designed with its AlphaCodium process that increases the performance of other LLMs in code completion tasks.

While the former is available to all users, the latter Codium LLM is only for paying enterprise users. Friedman said it is superior to OpenAI’s models on coding and that a “Fortune 10” company that could not be named due to confidentiality reasons was already using it in production.

Zero data retention

Addressing a growing market of AI tools that seek to offer security and anonymity to enterprise customers, Codiumate also practices “zero retention,” meaning that any code or information entered into it will be deleted immediately after the human user closes or ends their session with the tool.

The company also complies with industry best-practices and standards such as SOC 2 . It can run Codium on a company’s private servers or even on air-gapped computers for those looking to have a completely on-device experience.

Pricing and customers

Codiumate is being offered as part of a growing library of AI development agents from Codium AI — previously, the company released a PR Agent for automating pull request analysis and feedback.

The company offers a free tier powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3.5, a Teams tier that costs $19 per user per month, and an Enterprise tier with variable software-as-a-service (SaaS) subscription pricing depending on the customer’s unique implementation and needs.

Already, it claims 500,000 users globally, according to a press release from the company.

$uicideboy$ coming to Frost Bank Center for annual tour

SAN ANTONIO – New Orleans duo $uicideboy$ is coming to the Frost Bank Center in August for their annual Grey Day Tour.

Cousins Ruby da Cherry and $crim are slated to embark on a 41-date tour around the United States.

Opening acts for the tour include Denzel Curry, Pouya, HAARPER, Shakewell, and Ekkstacy.

Since the debut of the tour in 2019, it has combined rap and hardcore genres while serving as a breeding ground for up-and-coming artists, a news release said.

$uicideboy$, pioneers of SoundCloud rap, formed back in 2014. Since then, the duo has amassed over 24 billion streams. Their raw, unfiltered style has resonated with people experiencing pain.

For the tour, $uicideboy$ partnered with PLUS1 to donate $1 per ticket to people needing mental health assistance.

Tickets for the Grey Day Tour go on sale Friday, April 5, beginning at 10 a.m. on the  Frost Bank Center’s  website or Ticketmaster.

Norwegian Cruise Line passengers were stranded on a small African island after missing a deadline to re-embark

A couple says they were stranded on a small African island after they missed a cruise ship 's boarding deadline, according to local media.

Jay and Jill Campbell, from Garden City, South Carolina, described their ordeal with a Norwegian Cruise Line ship in an interview with WPDE, their local ABC affiliate.

Norwegian confirmed to Business Insider that they were denied boarding, saying it was their responsibility to be on time.

The Campbells said they were frequent cruisers, embarking on Norwegian Dawn on March 20 for their third voyage with the cruise line in a year.

However, an excursion last Wednesday with six other people to São Tomé and Príncipe , an island nation of some 220,000 people off West Africa, took an unfortunate turn.

The couple says the tour overran, and its operator informed the captain that eight passengers were running late.

They were refused entry to the ship upon their return, according to WPDE, even though they could still see the ship from the shore.

The ship was anchored, Jay Campbell said, but the captain refused to let them board despite repeated calls and emails by the passengers to the ship and the cruise line's emergency hotline.

The São Tomé and Príncipe Coast Guard even took the passengers to the ship, but they weren't able to get on and had to turn back, WPDE reported.

In total, WPDE said that nine passengers were not allowed to reenter the ship, including four elderly people and one person who is a paraplegic.

The Campbells told the news outlet that the ninth passenger was late for another reason — an 80-year-old woman who got a concussion on the island and was hospitalized there.

Most of the stranded passengers didn't have their medication or working credit cards, WPDE said.

The Campbells, who had a working card, said they covered $5,000 worth of expenses for the group in food, toiletries, and hotel bills.

"We have never had an experience like this before," Jill Campbell told WPDE.

The Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement provided to BI by email that eight guests on the tour missed the last tender back to the vessel.

The cruise line said the passengers missed the "all aboard time of 3 p.m. local time." It said it was a "very unfortunate situation" but that passengers were responsible for being on time.

It added that the deadline to return was "communicated broadly" over the ship's intercom, in printed communications, and on posts shown at the exits of the ship.

The elderly passenger who was concussed was returned to the US, where she has made a "safe return," a spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line said.

According to WPDE, the group flew to Gambia on Sunday, hoping to rejoin the ship at another port.

A spokesperson for the cruise line said that the ship could not safely dock in Gambia due to adverse weather conditions, adding that efforts are being made for the guests to rejoin the ship in Senegal on Tuesday.

Though cruise ships need to stay punctual, ruined-vacation stories like this are a reputational risk and might put people off.

For instance, two MSC Splendida passengers were stranded last summer at an Italian port after arriving too late for departure.

A TikTok video showed the couple waving and begging the crew to wait for them, even though the gangway appeared to have already been removed.

Other passengers may face the stress of becoming stranded in remote locations through no fault of their own. Last September, more than 200 people got stuck in a remote part of Greenland after their cruise ship ran aground.

And last November, passengers were stranded at a Brisbane port after a Royal Caribbean ship was overbooked.
