Essex traffic and travel: Live Colchester updates as road closed after car hits into house

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries

A major road through Colchester has been closed after a car hit a house early this morning.

Essex Police are currently at the scene on East Street in Colchester, Essex, after a serious collision at around 3.50am (Friday, December 10).

In a statement, police said: "We were called shortly before 4am this morning after a car struck a property in the road.

"A man who was in the car has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"A woman has been arrested in connection with the incident.

"The road will remain closed throughout this morning’s rush hour as our investigations continue and we would urge drivers to find a suitable alternative route.

"We will issue an update as soon as we practicably can."

Traffic is currently slow through the area, affecting routes up to the roundabouts on St Andrews Avenue and down to the A134.

The road has been reopened

East Street has been reopened, after a car struck a house in the street early this morning.

Traffic has returned to normal through Colchester.

East Street remains closed

East Street remains closed at the junction with Ipswich Road after an accident earlier this morning.

According to Essex Travel News, there are delays on the surrounding roads including Clingoe Hill and St Andrews Avenue approach at the roundabout at the junction with Colne Causeway.

Essex fire services involved.

Essex Fire & Rescue Service have issued a statement.

They said: "Crews were called to the scene of a road traffic collision involving one car.

"On arrival firefighters reported a man was trapped in his vehicle and used cutting equipment to release him.

"The casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service at 4:26am".

What happened today

East Street in Colchester has been closed by police after a car crashed into a house.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 4am, and the road was closed at 4.30am.

Investigations are being carried out in the area, which has been extended to the street between East Hill and Moorside.

There is congestion through Colchester as traffic diverts away from East Street.
